Hi anon!

It was kind of abrupt, and I do apologize for that -- truly. It's why I am tackling this ask! But, it was very freeing to delete that blog, and it felt as if a weight had truly been lifted from my chest to see it go. Bittersweet, yes! But absolutely needed. Constantly seeing asks box jump from 300 to 400+, the constant hate messages, the inboxes -- it was all too much for me to tackle, and honestly, it felt as if my blog was just no longer productive at that point.

I am always 100% behind the points made on that blog, and the problems in SJM's writing. My passion for those points will never fade or change for that matter. But I think the book community and publishing are just not ready for an actual change -- and it's tough to have the conversation about racial and abusive themes in books when people pick and choose when to chastise and ignore. It's literally like having a conversation with a wall. I can't honestly have a conversation about tackling racism in the book industry when people can't even let go of a book series that isn't even well written. We aren't being militant about the problems in the book industry, and its exactly why it looks the way it does. I don't know, I think I've grown apathetic to it. The urge for docility among reviewers disguised as 'allyship,' the flip-flop about abuse and abusive themes in books. None of it makes sense. And it's like the legwork to make it happen just doesn't seem worth having someone constantly throw vitriol in your face. It just seemed like it becomes a tit-for-tat straw-man debate in the end, and that -- again -- isn't productive. 'Tamlin stans this' and 'Nesta stans that, and it was like ?? Can we just think outside of that? We can't complain about the way PoC are always treated in the story and then turn around and defend an author who would 100% kill them off and let her white character wear their trauma like a second skin. Like how serious are these conversations when the ones having them are unwilling to stop supporting the author propagating these harmful tropes to other authors. FBAA ran because ACOTAR walked; ACOTAR ran because Twilight walked. These harmful stereotypes in these books melded and made the environment we have today. And it is what is.

As another blog asked, I will not be returning to that blog as it was deleted. But there are so many beautiful and articulate antis in the tag that adeptly explain the problems in this series and in much clearer and more concise ways! My blog was a rambling mess anyways!

Funny addition: And do you know the sheer frustration of typing up an entire post that's 2000+ with links and citations talking seriously about abuse and racism and how its portrayed in the media just for someone to skim the post and make a follow-up, sub-post that starts with: 'Tamlin stans always think.' -- yeah never again.

Favorite flavor(s): Tea, champagne (Sugarfina’s champagne gummy bears are the best), fresh strawberries, penne alla vodka, spaghetti carbonara, chicken tikka masala, rose-flavored macarons, Korean BBQ, red velvet cake, a fresh croissant, cannoli, a traditional afternoon tea set somewhere bougie like The Ritz and/or Claridge’s, baked macaroni and cheese, and chocolate. Yes these are all flavors do not test me.

Favorite genre(s): historical drama, historical romance, romance, horror, drama, thriller, and some action and comedy. Basically: give me a costume drama and I’m usually happy, unless I see glaring outfit inaccuracies.

Favorite music: Uhh...something pop/rock/oldies/pop goes classical/soundtracks go here.

Favorite movie(s): Dead Poets Society, Shakespeare in Love, Good Will Hunting, many things starring Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn, most Jane Austen adaptations. For animated: Beauty and the Beast, Lilo and Stitch, Howl’s Moving Castle. For pure camp/rewatch value: The Mummy, Clueless, Legally Blonde, The Addams Family + Values. For Horror: R U D E as fuck question. Depends on what I’m in the mood for. Cannot narrow it down to a handful.

Favorite series: Downton Abbey, Bridgerton, A Court of Thorns and Roses/SJM multiverse, What We Do in the Shadows, Endeavour, Outlander, Sanditon, The Great, Danganronpa, Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Rose of Versailles, Lupin III, Mobile Suit Gundam (mostly 0079 and Zeta, with soft spots for 0080 and Char’s Counterattack), Umineko no Naku Koro ni. And for garbage taste background noise: Gossip Girl, Emily in Paris.

Last song: I don’t care that it’s like six months too early I am hype dammit

Last movie: History of the World: Part 1 rewatch in anticipation for Part 2. But Scream VI tomorrow finally! And after that, the Luther movie at some point.

Currently watching: The aforementioned History of the World: Part 2 (roughly half the skits were great, half were painful), The Last of Us, The Mandalorian, What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim? (as I just found it on Hulu and loved the webtoon), Sanditon, Call the Midwife, Marie Antoinette, Tom Jones, Call My Agent! (I need to watch 10 Percent too, but CMA is on Netflix and has Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, which is who I want to be when I grow up). 

Currently working on: Oh, a constant mishmash of replies, researching costumes for my conventions this year (one of my local friends is revamping her Despair!Kazuichi for a con and is giving me all the more reason to bring Despair!Sonia back out again, even if I wore her last year at this event. We wish we had a Gundham!), work, absolutely losing my shit with Jennifer L. Armentrout’s From Blood and Ash getting picked up by Amazon before we’ve even seen an ACOTAR finalized script/casting/anything from Hulu (ACOTAR > FBAA by a long shot. Heck, give us the Throne of Glass series we were promised!), prepping for cooking date with the husband on Saturday (we’re making a tomato-based chicken curry full of veggies with white rice (his) and shirataki/konjac rice (mine).

Ahn😭 I always recommend "Shadow and Bone" to read first, because you already know the universe when you start reading SOC, but s&b is so painful to read that I only recommend it to then know the wonder that is SOC😭 (and also because in s&b there are 3 great secondary characters and so dear🛐). Eager readers suffer. I liked caraval, but I can't remember almost anything😭 and tiktok strikes again🤣

🤣🤣 your friend is definitely struggling poor thing, I hope she makes it! Look, I really enjoyed it after the first three chapters, but I'm suspicious of recommending it because I identified in so many ways with Poppy's journey and how she evolved. I'm suspicious because I loved reading FBAA and favorited it, lmao (it has a place in my heart). You can do it! Take your time reading these chapters (it took me a month to get going).

No worries! I have been napping a lot because I went back to work after my 5 days off. The beauty of 12-hour shifts. And I posted the two fics that were giving me difficulty, now working on a Modern!Cassian fic! And how are you? How was work?

Guilty! I usually read a manwha in bed before going to bed, in all honesty. I have a list of manwhas I follow, and I try to catch up with the newest chapter. I just happened to re-read the old chapters of "Secret Lady" (which was the manwha I was able to get inspiration from for the Eris x Reader fic I posted), and inspiration struck! LMAO.

I went back to play a bit of SIMS 4 and my main girl was like sleep-deprived and hungry. 🤣🤣🤣

Will add Shadow and Bone to my TBR list then. It is forever growing, I never had this big of a TBR list in so long!

And after LOTR, probably the Narnia series. I had forgotten a lot of things that had happened, so I might go back to that.

🤣🤣🤣 I do have a goal this year to read more! And yes, it is unfortunately an excuse but it's a good excuse!

Sometimes I think that the criticism of 'healthy/unhealthy' or 'toxic' or 'not well adjusted' is overused in fandoms and thrown around a lot. It's used every time a relationship or a person is not what someone would envision for themselves.

But regardless I dont think a ship/person has to be 100% healthy in media in order to be ok. This is a bit of purity culture nonsense and I dont agree with it. If people were perfect, and well adjusted, and communicated and talked things out, there wouldnt be a story. This would be a 10k fluff piece, that's it. (Not to mention that in real life, people are far from perfect, and still have relationships. Sometimes theres therapy, sometimes there isnt.)

I dont understand why people must bring up something like "obviously X couple still has their issues and their relationship isnt 100% healthy but __"

Is it necessary?? To have that preface???

"Luo Binghe is still a messed up individual at the end of the story"

"Hualian should probably go to therapy, their relationship isnt healthy right now"

All the complaints people throw at feysand about being too "dark" (whatever that means)...

Etc..

I always want to ask " Yes, and?"

Why is there this expectation that these characters must be perfect by the end of the story??

Also it's a double standard because if a character IS well adjusted in a story, they're called a Mary Sue and hated
