i hope dennis slaps mac across the face when he tells him I Love You for the first real time. i hope he does it out of fear because of the sincerity that coats mac's eyeballs and the emotion that frames them. i hope he feels so fucking bad about it afterwards and it haunts him till he can't stand it and finally says it back but does it in his scared afraid way and he refuses to meet intense eyes that fill with rage but overflow with pain and there's tears and blood and bruises but the tenderness of the bruises are met with a sweetness that's always been there wanting waiting yearning and curling in itself over and over again

was writing the next chapter and whenever i had moments of doubt (a lot) i imagined Foul Legacy laying in my lap and purring, occasionally batting at the screen like a cat or flipping over to stare at me or nibble on my fingers
honestly it helped a lot, because i know Foul Legacy would be a very excellent and supportive lap monster. he would watch you do your hobbies and chirp happily when you do anything, and if you seem down he'd bump his head against your chin to distract you. if you needed a break he would snuggle up to you for a nice nap, and once you complete the Thing he would celebrate with you with trills and happy licks. if you got into a creative slump he would nudge you away so you could go do something else to get your mind off it, and once you were ready to keep going his wings would wiggle with joy!!
Foul Legacy Childe is so supportive pass it on

"Kicked dog with rabies personality" and "prey animal with predator instinct" are good trope posts but i need yall to consider: dog personality that is fighting your fear out of a sense of duty. Character that is so so SO terrified, shaking as they face down something terrible, but they face it anyway out of a sheer dedication to protecting those they care about. Being so scared in the moment but not daring to flee because they need to protect others first before they worry about themselves. I eat that up man

Thinking about 1010 and sentience.
And the concept of them learning it from Neon himself. Gradually, as their intelligence grew, they began to pick up certain qualities that he has and each one developed their entire beings around different parts of their Captain. The concept of them all just being different versions of a younger, far more impulsive, him.
But to a certain degree, they share certain qualities across all of them. And the thought of one of those qualities being J's paranoia.
Because they were made to perform. They were made to sing and dance and make people swoon, that's all they're meant to do. And they were meant to obey.
They were meant to obey.
Without thinking. Without wanting.
Yet, gradually. Something changes with that. They begin to have different responses to things than they're used to. Different trains of 'thought,' if it can be called that. They begin to have the slightest inklings of urges to question what they're told.
Maybe to the degree of urges to disobey. To hesitate. To want.
And the thought of these new things they begin to feel and urges they begin to have. The thought that they began as behaviors that they copied from Neon long enough that they became a part of them, too, a part of their unique identities.
And yet, even then, they have doubt.
Doubt that it's good for the unit. That it's good for their purpose. Good for their cause.
And it starts to eat away at them, little by little, until they begin to doubt everything.
Can the others tell that I've changed?
Would they tell him if I asked?
Does he already know?
And this worry, this knowledge that in the past they've been reset and overwritten over things far smaller than that. Knowing that he can alter their memories. Take things away if need be.
And it begins to drive them insane.
And they begin to lose faith.
And they begin to lose trust.
Until eventually they hold on to these new sensations and new experiences so fiercely that they choose this new sense of awareness and this new sense of identity over their fellow men.
Over their unit.
Over their captain.
Over their father.
And the thought of them being willing to do anything to keep hold of it. Just to have something that's unique to them. Something that is theirs, something that isn't forced or meant or made or programmed. Something that they own. Something that is a part of them.
And the thought of the first thing they decide to do without being told is run away.
And all of this simply because:
Like father like son.
They were born paranoid.

I don’t know how people are even making stupid jokes anout ‘oh how did Kakashi become Hokage?’ When Kakashi is the only Hokage (before Naruto) shown to actually be chosen by any of the people he would be leading
Shikaku voted for him
Naruto was excited for him
Gai supported him and was excited for him but also recognized it was not a role Kakashi particularly wanted.
Meanwhile past Hokage’s were being chosen in the battle field by their predecessor (Hiruzen) as last ditch choices because the first and second choice weren’t viable (Minato) and as a secondary choice because (once again) the first choice wasn’t viable/didn’t want the damn job (Tsunade)
Kakashi is also a strong leader and his leadership qualities are highlighted time and again throughout the series. The same people he’d be losing a battle against Tsunade, Minato, and all other past Hokage’s except Hashirama are losing to.
Kakashi was the best option and would have been originally chosen and gone to the Kage summit if Danzo hadn’t used Shisui’s MS to change the Fire Dynamo’s mind so he was chosen.
