Googly-eyed Stubby Squid (Rossia pacifica)

Conservation Status- Data deficient (Data inadequate to determine a threat category)

Habitat- Southern Pacific Ocean

Size (Weight/Length)- 6 cm

Diet- Shrimp; Mollusks; Small fish; Crabs

Cool Facts- Yes. Those are its eyes, thank you for asking. The googly-eyed stubby squid is a smaller squid that spends its life on the ocean floor in relatively shallow water. While generally not purple, these squid are amazing at camouflage and change their coloration to blend in with sand. Googly-eyed stubby squids are master ambush predators. They scoop sand over their bodies until only their large eyes are poking out, striking at any unfortunate soul who wanders close. During the breeding season in later summer, the squid leave their coastal homes and travel so deep that sunlight vanishes.

James stared at his reflection, running his fingers through his hair, revealing a collection of grey hairs. The funny thing is he didn’t feel old. He still felt like a teenager, but Harry was nearly a teenager now, so he couldn’t possibly be, right? 

He quickly totted up his age and groaned he was old. He ran his hands through his hair again, looking at the greys. 

Regulus came up behind him, wrapping his arms around him and watched him in the mirror. 

“What you doing, love?” He asked, watching James’s reflection. 

“Am I old?” James asked instead of answering. He tugged at his hair again. Regulus spotted what the problem was. 

“No, you’re not old. I’d say these made you look distinguished.” Regulus placated him. He reached up into James’s hair and stroked little circles into his scalp with his. James relaxed into Regulus's hands. 

“Come on,” He said with a mischievous wink, “Follow me, and I’ll show you just how old you are.” Regulus walked away, unbuttoning his shirt and letting it drop to the floor. 

James suddenly forgot what he’d been fretting about and followed the trail of clothes leading to their bedroom.

I don’t know if this is something you can reflect on but a lot of people have been talking about how you’ve grown up in between these films and Paul obviously has to grow up very quickly too. Did you feel that?

“Absolutely. Yeah, at 23 I was simply a boy. No, but I do feel that too. At the beginning of the first film, he’s really protected by his privilege, literally behind walls. At the end of this movie, without giving too much away, he fully assumes his position as a leader. It’s a wonderful thing to play as an actor. I did get those years in between the films to grow up in my own life and get furniture.” (Laughs).
