Hey guys, so... Since EPIC: The Musical is done (that ending was beautiful fr), I am now gonna reveal something I've been forming in my head for a while...
MY FF7 EPIC: THE MUSICAL AU!
That's right! I've been forming this AU for a while, and it's finally complete after it was initially formed, (I am open to people giving suggestions on adjustments for the roles), here are the characters and roles we have:
Vincent: Odysseus
Lucrecia: Penelope
Zack: Telemachus
Hojo: Antinous
Minerva: Athena
Angeal: Eurylochus
Ramirez (Infantryman, got the name from Machinabridged): Elpenor
Cloud: Perimedes
Genesis: Hermes
Yuffie: Aeolus
Ramuh: Zeus
Bugenhagen: Tiresias
Leviathan: Poseidon
Phoenix: Apollo
Shiva: Aphrodite
Ifrit: Ares
Aerith: Calypso
Scarlet: Circe
Jenova: Scylla
Reeve: Polities (stand-in for Cait Sith)
Hollander: Eurymachus (the Suitor that tries to convince Ody to spare them)
Dyne: Amphinous (the Suitor that finds the weapons room unlocked)
Elmyra: Odysseus's Mother (Anticlea)
Loz: Polyphemus (Kadaj and Yazoo can be Cyclopes as well)
Rufus: Prince Hector (never seen, but mentioned)
Sephiroth: Astynax (Because of a dark thought I had one day)
Heidegger: Hephaestus
Tifa: Hera (Debated between her, or Elena, if you think the latter fits more, then I'm willing to change it)
And finally, Weiss: Melanthius (the Suitor that tries to get the others to capture Telemachus)
All roles have been filled! (Charybdis is the same)
If anyone has any suggestions for the roles that could have a better selection for it, please feel free to comment or reblog your choice, and I'll see if it's a better fit, if it is, I'll update the post!
Btw, everyone who sees this post is free to make animatics, or illustrations for this AU, but please give credit to me for making this AU, and Jorge for making this amazing musical in the first place. (You can also make illustrations and animatics for your own version of the AU if you wish, but that's up to you lol)

I finished all the sidequests in Final Fantasy 16 and decided to shelf the game. I am not interested in platinum trophies or playing games in hardmode anymore, there are too many other games to play. So what are my thoughts about the game? First, I hesitated getting the game as many people seemed to hate it. However, I decided to give it a try after I heard the amazing music in Theathrythm. That is a common occurence btw, amazing video game music really can get me into a game. So, the game can be described as Action RPG I think. Clive can level up, has a set of skills and some armour, but there is not much you can choose, you mostly have the same Clive with six different skills you use, so anyone who expects a rich character customization had to be disappointed (though that is more a western RPG thing I think). The graphics were fine to me. Characters looked alright, areas looked alright, eikon designs were amazing. I missed a little bit of variety though, like the areas were fine but nothing where I stopped to awe at it like it frequently happened in Ghost of Tsushima. Music... well the battle music is stellar. Especially the eikon battles pulled out no stops. The area music was more atmospheric and blended into the background, probably to keep the bleak atmosphere of the game intact. Story... I really liked it. It starts as this games of throne esque war setting with fantasy elements and then fully turns into "Humans against a god that abandoned them" and that is VERY Final Fantasy. Like, I really liked Ultima as a villain. Just his emotionless way of speaking, having zero empathy for humanity and being absolutely convinced that he is doing the right thing. For him, humanity was like crushing insects and he had zero self reflection about his own sins. It was really satisfying beating him in the end. I am just a little sad that my prediction of "Oh the blight is happening because people exploit the crystals" actually was "The crystals cause the blight". Meh. I guess we had enough environmental commentary FFs though (5 and 7 come to mind). One thing that I constantly thought was "That is like in FF14." It was kinda obvious that this is the same director and I could feel and see it in all corners of the game. One of my favourite things about the game was Clive btw. Or more that he looks like the most edgied FF protagonist of all times and then.. he has puppy dog eyes and a soft voice and cannot stop helping people. Baby boy. I love him. Jill however has been done dirty. She was set up as this amazing female protagonist alongside Clive and then... just put aside, and that after their slowburn resolved. Like... okay they kissed, now we don't need her anymore?! WHAT?! Poor Jill, I am so sorry that Yoshi-P and team are mean to Shiva dominants... How was the gameplay? I liked that it was kinda easy to learn and hard to master. I played on story mode though, as the enemies were too tanky in Action Mode. I think story mode is meant to be the normal mode and Action Mode the Hard Mode while the Final Fantasy mode is the super hard mode. I only struggled with a couple battles, most notably Odin/Barnabas who was a straight up Dark Souls boss. And the DLC? I enjoyed them, though Leviathan battle was HARSH even on story mode. This DPS check was nothing to sneeze at and imo should be made a bit easier on story mode. Okay, so overall? This game was a Final Fantasy game through and through. I shouldn't have listened to the haters. Just because they experiment and try new things doesn't mean that it is a bad game.

round 1 statistics
hi, gamers! while we wait for the round 2 polls to close, here are some interesting stats and tidbits from round 1 that I noticed :)
total votes: added up, the 52 polls in round 1 had a total of 28,221 votes. holy shit!
largest percentage of votes: sometimes the polls were tight, and other times they were... not. the top 5 most decisive winners were:
Fig Faeth (93.6%)
Kingston Brown (93.2%)
Sofia Lee (90.3%)
Chirp Featherfowl (89.7%)
Pete Conlan (88.8%)
the thinnest margin of victory to eke out a win went to Rue, who beat Amethar Rocks with a slender 52.2% of votes. notably, Rue kept up the trend in round 2, with their even slimmer 50.2% defeat of Gerard of Greenleigh, so it will be interesting to see if they're able to keep clinging on through round 3.
polls with the most votes: some polls really got you fired up, and brought Dimension 20 fans running in droves to vote for their faves...
Lapin Cadbury v Pinocchio with an unparalleled 1,636 votes
Squak Airavis v Kristen Applebees (838 votes)
Sam Nightingale v Colin Provolone (818 votes)
Katja Cleaver v Prince Andhera (767 votes)
Kingston Brown v Gangie Green (718 votes)
... while other polls had less fanfare. polls with the least votes:
Tuti IV v Maggie (347 votes)
Vicar Ian Prescott v Bob (388 votes)
Saccharina Frostwhip v Megan Mirror // Twyla v Marcid the Typhoon (392 votes each)
Bean v Amangeaux Epicée du Peche (409 votes)
Sunny Biscotto v Binx Choppley (416 votes)
it may not surprise anyone to know that it looks like none of the winners of these least-voted-on polls will be advancing to round 3; it seems the passion isn't there for these particular PCs :/
winning PCs with the most individual votes:
Lapin Cadbury (851 votes)
Kingston Brown (669 votes)
Fig Faeth (573 votes)
Evan Kelmp (509 votes)
Kristen Applebees (487 votes)
winning PCs with the least individual votes:
Maggie (255 votes)
Bob (260 votes)
Sam Black (269 votes)
Cody Walsh (274 votes)
Gunnie Miggles-Rashbax (285)
evidently, individual votes accrued in round 1 aren't a great basis for predicting future success - Kelmp was the fourth most-voted for PC in round 1 but won't be making it to round3, and Gunnie was the fifth least-voted for character in round 1 but on track to head into round 3 by a pretty decent margin.
campaign stats:
the most to least successful campaigns, by % of characters that won their round 1 polls:
Fantasy High: 100% (6/6)
Misfits and Magic: 100% (4/4)
A Starstruck Odyssey: 83.3% (5/6)
A Court of Fey and Flowers: 83.3% (5/6)
The Unsleeping City: 77.8% (7/9)
A Crown of Candy: 75% (6/8)*
The Seven: 66.7% (4/6)
Neverafter: 66.7% (4/6)
Mentopolis: 66.7% (4/6)
Burrow's End: 66.7% (4/6)
Coffin Run: 25% (1/4)
Dungeons and Drag Queens: 25% (1/4)
The Ravening War: 20% (1/5)
Escape from the Bloodkeep: 16.7% (1/6)
Pirates of Leviathan: 16.7% (1/6)
Tiny Heist: 0% (0/6)
Mice and Murder: 0% (0/6)
Shriek Week: 0% (0/4)
*ACOC: while Amethar was passes on to round 2 to compete against Pinocchio, he did lose his initial poll against Rue. if we included Amethar as a winner, ACOC would have a considerably higher 87.5% success rate, making it the third most successful campaign overall.
it's definitely interesting to see how the success of various campaigns has changed over round 2! Fantasy High stays strong, while the MisMag crew has been wiped out, and several campaigns have lost all of their remaining PCs. it'll be exciting to see how the numbers look when all of the final votes for round 2 are in.
thank you all so much for playing along with this bracket! I hope you're all still having fun and are getting hype for round three :)

What's ur fave Final Fantasy
oooh hard choice
games i've played at least a little bit of: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15
games i've played to completion: 9, 10, 12, 13, 15
games i loved in a wild manic-episode kind of way where i couldn't not fucking talk about the minutia of the dynamics between the main cast for more than 1hr at a time and also i'm absolutely crazyinsane for my specific interpretation of noct's relationship with the gods, and leviathan, and also what the game has to say about anger/loss, but also it was Not A Good Game objectively so what do you do: 15
games i loved in a more grounded way where i can give an actual sober evaluation: 9, 10, 12, 13
so, of the sober games, which reigns?
....probably 9, tbh.
i love 13 for being utterly fearless (and tragically misunderstood!) in its redesign of the combat system, a system i haven't seen done as well before or sense. and i love the idea of a lot of its plot threads, but the execution isn't quite there.
i liked 12 a lot but it suffers from its main plots beats feeling somewhat staccato in nature; in a lot of ways, having first played it in late 2010, it felt like it suffered for, technologically, resting solidly between the "mass effect / dragon age full party banter" era versus the "older-style squenix game era" i guess? i wanted so so much more of the dynamics between the Judges and such fleshed out on the actual screen; it was clear the game wanted you to care more than i actually did, even while the main cast was in fact rock-solid
10 is the biggest competition here. that game meant a lot to me particularly playing it as a vaguely-fundie-religious kid. i probably picked up Nietzsche partially because of that game. i do think it's the most narratively coherent of all the FF games; it had a Thing It Wanted To Say and had its eye on the prize the whole time and fucking executed.
but 9 has that unfair "played it at a formative age" advantage, and also is nearly as coherent, and i was surprised, when i came back to play it as an adult, how interrelated all its seemingly-at-odds themes were. also just has a brighter and spritelier universe overall. which, i don't even really *write* those sort of shenanigans that much in my fiction but i love reading them when they're done well, and truthfully. ff9 is cheerier and more fantastical but i think it gave me heavier blows than a lot of the more "mature" games in the series i guess. damn i love 9 a lot

Halloween 2024 - Day 6 - Hellraiser: Hellworld (2005)
Tumblr media
If you die in the game, you die in real life...
If this wasn't at all obvious with movies 6 and 7, we're definitely into the 'sunk cost' stage of this franchise. The first four all had their charms despite tapering off and I'm on record as a fan of Inferno but Hellseeker and Deader felt like a bit of a chore. But, as much as my lack of keeping to a schedule might dispute this, I am a creature of habit and the end is in sight. And, if anything, we're really due to go off a cliff next year so all the more reason to stick it out and see what depths we can plumb with this series. Hellworld was filmed back to back with Deader all the way back in 2002 but sat largely unused, saved for a few showings over the years, until the pair were released direct to DVD in 2005. It's always stood out on the horizon for me as I've worked my way through the franchise given the plot ties into the world of online gaming. A strange turn for the franchise, sure, but given we're 8 movies in now I think any subject matter is fair game in order to freshen things up. Plus, this would have been right around the time of a boom in online gaming and, given the film pitches Hellraiser as an MMO, you would have had things like Ultima Online, Everquest, Runescape and even Final Fantasy XI (World of Warcraft wouldn't have existed at the time of filming but would have been out by the time the films actually released) so I can sort of see the potential in touching upon the dangers of addiction, both as an analogue to the pleasure seeking that is so prevalent in Hellraiser but also to tie in to the hot topic parent scaremongering of the day.
Tumblr media
Nevermind all those other games though, who remembers Graal?!
Tumblr media
The video game stuff though is largely glossed over. A friend of our main characters is said to have killed himself following his addiction to the game but it's all very vague and skimmed over during an exposition dump during his funeral.
Tumblr media
Even the game itself is shown only briefly and I was going to compare it to a Flash game from the time but I'm pretty sure I was playing Flash games on the school computers at the time that had more gameplay than this. The Lament Configuration doesn't exactly feel like the kind of thing you would adapt into a video game either, it strips away that tactile feeling of handiling the cube, twisting and prodding to try and open it up.
Tumblr media
What little we do see of the game is little more than a means to shuttle our main characters off to the meat and potatoes of the movie, an exclusive Hellraiser themed party taking place at Leviathan house. This is something that irked me early on with the movie, it's often said that these later movies are just a case of slapping the Cenobites onto someone else's screenplay and that they barely even show up but these fet a bit tryhard in trying to shoehorn a bunch of references in early as if to say 'See, we're a REAL Hellraiser movie'. Very quickly you get mentions of Hellraiser, Hellworld, Pinhead, Leviathan, LeMarchand, the Engineer…it's like the other extreme of not showing them at all but just trying to cram mentions in within the first few minutes.
Tumblr media
Among our crew of party goers is none other than Superman himself (well, one of them at least) Henry Cavill.
Tumblr media
Plus Lance Henriksen as the party host, a man with a storied past in the horror genre and notable for me at least for his role in Pumpkinhead, though I think that may have gone undocumented on this here blog.
Tumblr media
Our friends are shown around the house but all start to experience strange visions, usually very brief and sometimes involving Pinhead making thinly veiled threats.
Tumblr media
Spoiler alert, the twist of the movie is that Lance Henriksen's Host character is actually the father of the friend that commited suicide and he's out for revenge for what he percieves as their actions in enabling his addiction that resulted in his death. It's revealed that upon their arrival to the party, the Host drugged them with a very strong psychodelic drug and buried them in shallow graves outside with an airtube to keep them alive and prolong their suffering. The events of the movie have been playing out in their heads with cell phones left in their coffins through which the Host has been using suggestion to influence their visions. Now, this actually does bring some degree of interest to the film which had been largely boring up to this point and I did appreciate the idea of how this could play into the overarching story of addiction. If these kids are so immersed in this game then these monsters from within it could be making their way into their visions in a very violent way. The problem is that because they made pretty much zero attempt to re-contextualize this film's world and to potray the Cenobites as characters within this game, plus the fact that this movie does the exact same drive by Pinhead scenes (to borrow my own phrase from last year), these interactions just feel like more shoehorned references to justify the film bearing the Hellraiser name. If they had actually taken the time to show these kids playing the game and some digital versions of the Cenobites from which they would have formed these assocations, the whole idea might have worked better.
Tumblr media
It would have been all moot anyway though as it's revealed at the end that the Cenobites are in fact actually real when they show up and tear the Host to shreds. Thanks for ruining my shades of grey for me, lads. Whilst I can appreciate the efforts to make the series a little more contemporary by taking this video game angle, it does also strip away a small aspect I've always liked in that all of these movies felt like they took place in the same universe. It's always come across as an anthology piece to me, the Lament Configuration managing to find it's way into someone elses hands who have these delusions of how this is going to lead them to pleasure undivisible whilst we get to sit back and watch as several hooks and chains promptly tear those delusions asunder. Ultimately, it's one of those films where I can see the genesis of a decent idea that goes unfufilled. And whilst I'm all for taking wild departures this deep into a franchise, it does feel like too big of a disconnect from the series to have ever been successful.
Tumblr media
And so, given that this is the last appreance of Doug Bradley in this famous role, it's a run that ends in a whimper rather than a bang. Somehow I doubt his successors have much chance of living up to his mantle, especially when our next stop, Revelations, is the film that drew Clive Barker's ire and led to that very infamous tweet I have been mentioning all these years…

LETS GO!!!!!! MY BROTHER AND I BRAINSTORMED SOME IDEAS FOR MY FINAL FANTASY x UNDERTALE AU >:D We decided to call it FinalTale just bc Undertale AU's kinda retain Under or Tale in the title? And also, it just kinda reminds me of Final Fantasy with Tale's usually being fantasy :> (Oh and this is under the cut so casual scrollers don't get bombarded with a WHOLE ASS line of text)
The barrier between the humans and monsters extends to the hole that Frisk/Chara fall through. There have been no other instances of humans ever falling down as it is INSANELY rare to ever fall between both worlds
Each of the crystals are summons that Asgore wants, so he can use their powers to become an all-powerful god to take revenge on the humans (maybe they invaded the underground once and killed MANY monsters.)
Ruins gets Ramuh, just based on the fact that he is usually the first summon you get/considered the wise guide of sorts (plus I didn't know where TF an electric type would go but that doesn't seem to matter for some final fantasy games anyways so PSHHH)
Snowdin gets Shiva, bc obviously, ice elemental LMFAO
Waterfall gets Leviathan because... water
Hotland gets Ifrit bc- ok yes Fire.
Including the Wild East from UT Yellow bc I remembered Titan and I needed him in the story so the crystals would equate to 7 in total lol but yeah he's an earth elemental and that was the only idea that came to mind for him KLSDKJGHSD
Frisk somehow has the Bahamut summon with them (light element), which renders them able to go into trace! :D And was also the reason they fell into the underground and was able to bypass the barrier unlike other humans.
Asgore already has the shadow/dark crystal (Odin), which means all he needs is Frisks light crystal + the Thunder crystal to become an all powerful god cause' he has most definitely already taken every crystal in the underground save for the ruins bc NOBODY goes there.
Chara and Asriel are not present as enemies in this story-- aswell as Flowey not being a thing? I imagine they're sorta the angel that's sealed between the barrier and human realm. Maybe Chara was the ONLY human without a crystal that stumbled into the underground, and being human, Chara couldn't survive there, long term. Honestly, seeing as I've given Asgore Odin by default, and somehow Toriel has Ramuh in the ruins, I can see maybe Asriel had Phoenix as a crystal? And used some of its rebirth abilities for Chara, but he had to use his own soul to actually harness it due to Chara being human and not monster-- And in a last ditch effort, Asriel did the sorta-- Monster absorbs humans soul and turns into a god-like being sorta deal but using Phoenix's rebirth abilities instead and so they became a being in itself, rendering them far too dangerous to keep in the underground. Maybe Asgore seals them away, fearing what they can do and not knowing that whatever they turned into is an "Angel" of sorts. Absolutely 100% someone who can revive you if you completely die btw JJHSDGSD I can see you able to obtain them as a summon if you do a SPECIFIC side quest throughout the game, kinda like how you can get the Fierce Deity mask in Majora's Mask by doing certain side quests (yes, ik, totally different game series but it gets the idea around >:3) Aswell also sorta the snowgrave route but not messed up KJHGDSD just a... very long and convoluted side quest that gives you major benefits in the long run.
Due to this angel-like summon being sealed away, they're located between the barrier and human world. You WILL see them anyways, even if you don't earn them as a summon, just bc you'll see them after defeating Asgore and returning to the barrier to go home, but gaining them before then, would hypothetically give you an alternate scene-- maybe you can use the Angel summon to destroy the barrier in its entirety and let the humans and monsters finally live in harmony. So YEAH!
There's technically still a good and neutral route, but no geno bc-- idk how that'd work in a Final Fantasy sense UYGSDDSGHJDS
Oh yeah, more stuff I wanna add!
Each of your party members are the boss fights you actually fight throughout UT, so Toriel, Papyrus, Undyne & Mettaton with Alphys being another party member + being the sorta... spiritual successor of Cid bc she'd be that crazy mechanic that you see in EVERY Final Fantasy LMFAO And Sans is a secret party member that, like how the Summon is OP, Sans is a powerful ally you can only earn by doing an optional bossfight. That way, there doesn't have to be a geno route to get the sans fight >:0 Oh and Mad Mew Mew would also be an optional party member, but like, she's a sorta normal levelled party member like everyone that's not sans JHDGHDSJH I can see her having pretty frequent banter with Mettaton specifically if you have them both on a team LMFAOOOOO
This is sorta what I have right now! :D If I design the summons, I'll 100% make them more monster than human (Shiva for example would not be human like she usually is. More monster like Ifrit!)
BUT YEAH! Final Fantasy 6 has given me alot of ideas so far >:3
