Another unpopular opinion here, I’m assuming.

So I recently got back on the Naruto train again after my latest break as I have done several times over the years. And as an adult, a few things jumped at me more than when I enjoyed this in my younger years and refused to be silenced.

1.) Naruto is very pointlessly OVERpowered to a STUPID degree. I mean, I get it, he’s the protagonist but with him around, everyone else just needs to retire from/not even train to become a Shinobi because he’s there. Oh, “at least they took away his God-Mode after the war”. Well, yeah. The least they could do. Him being the protagonist also sucks for me because I find a lot of his mannerisms really annoying. “Talk-no-Jutsu” is stupid too, like did NO ONE else ever consider that? No? It only works because it’s the protagonist, got it. Do NOT get me started on the fact that during Part 1, Naruto is basically between 12 and 13 years old and he had already created a jutsu that turns him into a sexy naked girl. God, I don’t even want to know why he thought of that. Even if it’s possibly Jiraiya’s influence, that’s almost even more disturbing.

2.) I don’t get everyone being so terrified of Itachi. He’s one of my favourite characters, not gonna lie, but people clearly more powerful than him are scared of him. Why? Seems the most consistent reason is the creators have a hard-on for either the Uchiha Clan or just Itachi in general. He definitely is a highly ranked ninja, no doubt but come on.

3.) Kakashi was nerfed at the end to to a large degree. And he’s my #1 favourite character so this annoyed the ever-loving hell out of me. I’d think losing the Sharingan like that should have actually AMPLIFIED his chakra reserves now that this almost parasitical thing isn’t constantly draining him anymore but nope! Can’t have him be MORE cooler and badass than the story’s central character! Even though he already is, let’s get real. I mean, his father was confirmed to be on the same level(if not higher than) the ‘legendary’ Sannin in terms of power so why stunt Kakashi like this? To make the new generation look better and more powerful than they are. (Same deal with Gai, honestly. At least he got to go out by handing Madara his own hind quarters.) Skipping over the 10-15 years Kakashi served as Hokage just so they could rush into Naruto’s bugged me too. Who else wishes we got a FULL series of Kakashi Gaiden? So many missed opportunities.

4.) Apparently any kid who has dreams of becoming the Hokage but doesn’t have a link to or is related to previous Hokages can just forget it. I noticed this before but Imma post it for old time’s sake. I mean seriously…

First/Second: Brothers

Third: trained by the previous

Fourth: Student of the Third’s student and only because said student didn’t want the position

Fifth: Descended from First and trained by Third

Sixth: trained by Fourth

Seventh: Son of Fourth, ‘distantly related’ to Fifth, trained by Sixth AND student of the Third (overpowered much).

And now it seems people are of the opinion that the eighth Kage could be Sarutobi’s grandson, Naruto’s kid or Sasuke/Sakura’s kid with a few others tossed in. I wonder why every kid in the Academy isn’t fighting tooth and nail to get onto any possible “Team 7” since that seems to be the lucky one if you want to progress in Shinobi politics.

The Fentonworks Mega-Lab.

So! AU where the Fentonworks Labs actually stretch Miles upon Miles below the City of Amity Park.

It started when the Fentons wanted to add a simple addition to the original Lab when they ran out of space to store their more dangerous weapons. They didn't want their (at the time) young children getting their hands on their experimental Weaponry, it could blow up in their faces!

So they built a different Wing of the Lab to hold all those Inventions.

Then they ran out of space and added a few extra Storage Rooms. But then they decided it was a hassle to have to carefully transport their Dangerous Inventions all the way to the Storage Rooms, and built a Lab specifically for Dangerous Experiments near that same Section. Then that Lab was occupied for a while, and Jack wanted to start a different experiment as well, so they built a few more.

In the end they just never stopped building onto their Labs.

There are sections of the Mega-Lab that are entirely walled off because a few of their more unstable Experiments contaminated the area. Walking into them was not recommended, else you could walk out with an extra eye or 5.

In other sections, their Captured Ghosts had taken over a few Labs and created a sort of Mad Max style civilization using their discarded weapons and vehicles.

In another, all Ghosts became Humans and all Humans became Ghosts. That was a weird one, to this day they still didn't understand how they pulled that off.

In another, some type of Eldritch Time Ghost had been born, and now sort of always existed and never existed, and began experimenting with its powers. They nicknamed it Clocky because it liked to carry around a stopwatch.

And so many more. At one point a failed Portal Experiment messed with the internal Space of the entire thing. Now there was literally no way of Mapping it. The Fentons still somehow managed to navigate it perfectly.

When Jazz and Danny grew up, they too learned how to navigate the Labs, which is how Danny managed to show his friends the Portal Experimentation Wing in the first place.

Unfortunately, it wasn't safe for anyone aside from the Fentons to enter the Mega-Labs, so one day when the Fenton Family+friends left town on a Week Long Camping/Road Trip, they put up a few Ghost Shields to keep both Humans out and the Ghosts in.

This drew some unwanted attention after some tourists saw the giant Glowng Green Building in the middle of an Illinois Town, and rightfully called the Justice League.

Now, the Justice League had tried to call the owners of the house, but nobody picked up the phone. (An incident with Jack and a Canoe had knocked most of their phones into the lake. They weren't even at the lake yet.)

When nobody picked up, they decided to investigate personally.

After getting into the House, they quickly found a door labeled "Labs: Do Not Enter (unless it we are late for Dinner)" and went into ignoring all the warnings.

They quickly regretted it.

I have very strong opinions about disaster preparation as someone who lives in a tornado zone, where evacuation is NOT an option for anyone and the only way to definitely survive is to 1) be in a building that WON'T just get picked up AND 2) have a basement, cellar, or specialized tornado shelter.

The simple fact is that the majority of fatalities in tornadoes are people living in mobile homes/trailers and those deaths could be reduced massively if the government built tornado shelters in high risk areas. But there's been very, very little effort to do that and tornadoes are just getting stronger and more deadly while poor people are left to huddle in our bathtubs, listening to the sirens and thinking about easily we could die.

I feel like if Peeta hadn't gotten hijacked by the Capitol before being rescued, he would've ended up physically fighting Gale after hearing about all the bullshit he was on while Katniss was worried over Peeta and was making friends with other people while in 13. Not out of male testosterone "the fuck you say to my woman" type deal, solely because in what world is that okay behavior towards your best friend??

I don't feel like he'd be graceful about it either. Peeta can easily be unhinged when he wants to be. Dude would wait until Gale's 6'4 ass is stalking down the halls one day on the way to class or smth and just konk him the fuck out with a frying pan. He'd confess too. Better yet, self report. Drag Gale's ass to Mrs. Everdeen in medical and be like "I did it." No regrets.

Interview with the Vampire Manga Adaptation (Yoake no Vampire) by Udoh Shinohara + DL Link

Happy new episode of IWTV AMC day! Today though, I want to share something I've teased earlier on my blog, which is the Japanese manga adaptation of the Interview with the Vampire gothic horror novel. See under the cut for more details!

It came out in 1994, a bit after the movie, but it only referenced the book itself. It consisted of a single volume made up of three chapters, so events are condensed and abridged, and it skips Part II in Eastern Europe. The first two chapters were scanlated into English by a group named Trine and distributed on the aarinfantasy forums in 2007, but the third chapter was kind of lost to time, especially after all the links to the raw Japanese scans went down years ago. However, I discovered that a now defunct Portuguese scanlation group did the whole thing (individual credits included in the .zip), and I was able to recover chapter three, use heavily cross-checked and edited MTL (PT-ENG), and deliver the final product to you all. See more notes about this process or where to read the PT version in the readme file included in the .zip! It's not 100% perfect and I would not call it true 'scanlation' obviously, so if anyone can do a better job I welcome them to! I hope more visibility on this manga makes the raws become available again so a true JPN-ENG translation can be done on the last chapter!

This manga obviously has major IWTV book spoilers, but it does NOT include anything from later books in the series and is honestly quite faithful overall. It even includes Lestat's father. I might actually call it slightly gayer than the book, since Louis and Armand become more obviously in love. I would recommend it to anyone who's watching the series and hasn't read the book yet, as well as to anyone who enjoys the books alone! The art style is very 90s, but it has some really beautiful visuals sometimes, especially with Claudia. I hope everyone enjoys reading it!
