saw ur eye horror post & wanted to share that my optometrist is a beautiful middle aged woman who specializes in family optometry. i'm a 25 year old mildly masochistic lesbian extremely scared of anyone or anything touching or hurting my eyes on top of a serious medical phobia. she speaks to me very kindly and slightly condescendingly throughout every procedure, like i am a feral kitten. i walk out of every appointment very confused emotionally and sexually
this is the first thing that has made me want to schedule an eye test in years

If you know me from primary school, you would know that I am not a spectacle wearer. Oddly enough, I started wearing glasses when I entered Optometry school. My first ever prescription glasses is during our training before entering clinic year.
Truth be told: I hated wearing my glasses. It wasn’t how I imagined it to be in elementary where those who wear frames look smart. I didn’t like how I look with glasses. Mostly, I hated how I now have to wear my specs to see things better and avoid having eyestrains.
Overtime, wearing glasses before my 5th year started was a blessing in disguise. Through this experience, I developed a deeper appreciation for lenses. I have gained empathy in personally getting to see a fraction of what my patient’s have to deal with to carry on with their everyday tasks. Through this experience, I saw firsthand how even a small amount of grade can change a person’s life. That spectacles, when dispensed properly, can create a lasting impact. I gained interest in binocular vision. I always re-check, refine, and balance my refraction. I search for frames that will complement the face shape of my patients. I try to do my best during patient education—noting and customizing what I say depending on who my patient is.
Ever since this semester has started, I have felt disappointed at myself for not reaching certain things: may it be on patient handling or scores on a quiz. But just like my first pair of prescription glasses, these too have been blessings in disguise. Lately, I have learned to embrace my life when it’s worth celebrating, and even when it feels like it’s falling apart.

Paul matthews has four brothers. Every single one of them is somehow connected to a lord in black based off a weird system I made in my mind to explain this very large OC family tree I've made.
He has one older brother who is dead named Richard Lipschitz, who Richie took his name after. (That's why Richie lives with Paul, both his parents died and Paul was the only brother old enough to be his guardian.) This oldest brother was offered up to Wiggog Y'wrath because he was the first son and he had first dibs.
Paul of course was promised to Pokotho by his parents, and because he was simply exposed to so much music and theatre as a child he learned to hate it which is why he hates musicals. He was only 20 years old and barely in college when he had to adopt Richie and quit school to get a job at CCRP to support him.
Now I'm going to write about Paul's younger brothers in order of age.
Starting with Gary Goldstein (I refuse to let this headcanon drop. They are estranged brothers. That OR the clone theory but Shhh.) Gary is connected to Bliklotep and struggles with paranoia from being able to see better than other people which is why he wear glasses that aren't his prescription, he wants to worsen his vision. Because of his paranoia and anxiety he struggled with shaking hands for years and was never able to get the degree in optometry he wanted and so he settled on law and poured his heart into it.
Timothy Baker, Timothy is connect to T'noy Keraxis and is an electronics maker deep in the heart of Hatchetfield (specialist in clock of course.) He's never late, alaays exactly on time. He has one child named Daniel (also known as Stopwatch) and despite his failing business him and Daniel live well from Daniel's battles at the old roller rink.
Finally we have Nathan Finn, the youngest at 28 years old who is the chosen of Nibblenephim. He killed his own (pregnant) wife once she found out she had cheated on him and then ate her. He's been a cannibal for years and owns most of the nice restaurants in town, even co-owns Pasquali's with another man. He's very successful and almost always has a smile on his face to present to a customer. He has no children and generally avoids people under the age of 18 because he finds them incredibly annoying.
All five brothers have matching tattoos of the pentagram depicted on the black book that they were forcibly given as children. Their parents were original members of The Church of the Starry Children.
Anyways, that was my yapathon, thanks for tuning in.
this is awesome

Darren Criss and Cat Cohen Will Lend Voices to GWYNETH GOES SKIING in Edinburgh and Utah
Gwyneth Goes Skiing is headed to Edinburgh Fringe this August, and will also make its international premiere in Utah.
Darren Criss will provide the singing voice of Terry Sanderson alongisde Edinburgh Comedy Award Winning comedian, actress and singer Cat Cohen, who will lend her voice  as Gwyneth Paltrow on the vocal track with hits including I Wish You Well and See You In Court.
Darren Criss is best known for playing the role of Blaine Anderson in Glee (alongside the real  Gwyneth Paltrow!). In 2018, he was awarded Emmy and Golden Globe acting awards for his  leading role in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. Criss has also starred  on Broadway in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Hedwig and the Angry  Inch.
Edinburgh Comedy Award-winner Cat Cohen’s live comedy performances combine stand-up  comedy with cabaret-style songs. The comedian, actress, and singer’s first Netflix comedy  special, The Twist...? She's Gorgeous, was released in 2022. As an actress, she has appeared on  comedy series such as High Maintenance, Broad City, Search Party, and What We Do in the  Shadows.
Criss and Cohen digitally join Trixie Mattel who makes a special on-screen appearance as  Gwyneth Paltrow’s mother, Blythe Danner. They are seen alongside the original Gwyneth Goes  Skiing cast - Linus Karp as the Goop-founding, Door-Sliding, Shakespeare-In-Loving, consciously uncoupling Hollywood superstar Gwyneth Paltrow and Joseph Martin as her nemesis, Terry  Sanderson, a retired Optometrist from Utah.
The world debut of Darren and Cat’s voices will be back where it all began, Park City, Utah. The  now-infamous location of Terry Sanderson and Gwyneth Paltrow’s collision in 2016 will play  host to the US transfer of Awkward Productions and Pleasance Theatre’s runaway hit. Gwyneth  Goes Skiing’s transfer to The Egyptian Theatre marks the first international transfer for Awkward  Productions’ work.
Gwyneth Goes Skiing, which is a co-production between Awkward Productions  and the Pleasance Theatre, returns to the slopes after two sold-out and critically-acclaimed runs  in London. This silly play-with-music marks Awkward Productions’ return to the Fringe  after Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story had a sold-out run in 2023.
Gwyneth Goes Skiing recounts the collision in 2016 on the slopes of Deer Valley and the court  case seven years later that enthralled the world. This very silly story of justice, betrayal and  optometry makes the audience the jury, asking them to decide who's guilty and who's gooped.  Gwyneth Goes Skiing features a whole lot of fiction, a sprinkling of verbatim lines from court  transcripts and delightfully catchy original music by Leland (RuPaul’s Drag Race; Cher’s  Christmas; Troye Sivan’s Something To Give Each Other).
Performance Information The Egyptian Theatre, Utah  Thursday 16th – Sunday 26th May 2024  328 Main Street, Park City, Utah 84060 https://parkcityshows.com

Okay since everyone is deciding to say "I'm not in optometry but-" I AM in optometry (optometry technician to be specific) and can give some advice about contact lenses.
First off, RCL (aka hard contact lenses) are only given out nowadays if you have SEVERE astigmatism. Idk what your prescription is, of course, but technology has come a very far way. Especially since you're an adult and your eyes aren't changing shape as much, it's much easier to fit you, and we can make custom lenses.
Additionally, I have never, not once, heard an optometrist say that contact lenses cover up oxygen to the eye because it's not true. Soft contact lenses (the type most people wear) are gas permeable, which is why we can measure eye pressure with them in.
Also, no, I have never seen someone have to work up to contacts in prescription. Not a thing, and it would be extremely expensive both for the doctor and patient for them to keep refracting and fitting you. A good optometrist will do as follows: you get an exam, they give you a starter prescription. They order you a singular pack of trial lenses- not a whole year, one pair- and see how they fit. Either the optometrist or a contact lens technician has a short appointment with you where they teach you how to put them in, take them out, and care for them. 1-3 weeks later you come in again to report how they feel. If you like them, you buy a supply. If you don't, they order you a new brand. At least at my clinic, we charge a $90 flat fee and we'll order as many trials as is needed until we find one at no extra cost. Make sure you know their policies first.
Contact lenses are not this terrifying thing your commenters are making it to be, and any good optometrist will be able to at least check if you're able to wear them.
Sweet, thanks for the info

Jersey's GROOVY Shares Sad Club Anthem "KNO ME," Announces Upcoming EP
Tumblr media
GROOVY uses his singular hybrid of Jersey club and R&B to explore the highs, lows, and complications of young love. Today, the rising artist announces his upcoming EP, Crying In The Club, coming May 24th via Defiant Records/Warner Records. With the announcement comes the heart-wrenching single and video "KNO ME."
The upcoming EP refines GROOVY's blend of R&B and Jersey club: GROOVY slows down the club tempo, but keeps the genre's five-beat pattern and signature sound effects, while applying silky smooth vocals and relatable lyrics on top. Home to "jersey luv" ft. B Jack$, GROOVY's 2023 viral hit single, Crying In The Club follows a loose narrative about heartbreak and GROOVY's transition from hopeless romantic to regretful lothario. The EP features guest appearances from Kanii, Vayda, and R2R Moe.
youtube
Produced by GROOVY's frequent collaborator Alejandro, "KNO ME" is an aching confection, layering a mournful string melody and piano arpeggios atop slow-mo club production. Using a screwed-up filter on his ultra-smooth vocals, GROOVY tells the story of a crumbling relationship built on a bed of lies in which nobody truly knew the other until it was too late. Directed by Keats, the video dramatizes the story, using striking imagery as GROOVY and his lover, Mariah, try and fail to work through their differences, and GROOVY responds the only way he knows how: with a sneaky link.
The son of a respected Jersey club DJ who finished optometry school before pursuing his musical career, GROOVY is the latest artist to join Steve "Steve-O" Carless's Defiant Records, full of artists who build bridges between sounds that resonate on either side of the Hudson River. The Union County native first made noise last year with "jersey luv" ft. B Jack$, which became a viral sensation behind a hip-shaking trend that highlights the song's dramatic tempo change. Named one of the Best Songs of 2023 by Complex, song has over 450k creations on TikTok, along with over 1 billion views on the platform, and has generated over 49 million Spotify streams and nearly 500k units sold since its release in Spring 2023.  With the Crying In The Club EP, GROOVY continues to build a devoted fanbase by blending vastly different sonic traditions into an emotionally arresting package. Stay tuned for more.

how old was he when he met mary? their story is so cute and interesting in this one❤️
Tharman was 34 when he met Mary who has a few months shy of her 23 birthday.
She'd just graduated from Optometry school and she had plans to get her doctorate one day (Which she eventually did) and Tharman felt he'd be taking something from her if he were to enter into a serious relationship with her. Because she's young and he has Kate which is a lot to put on someone who is just out of university.
So after months, he sighs and screws up all of his courage and goes round to Mary's flat one Saturday. And he knows it makes him an arsehole to have waited so long but he just... every time he'd tried he couldn't go through with it.
"Hey, You!" Mary said when she opened the door, leaning forward to brush their lips together.
"Hey."
His tone evidently caught her off guard, her brow furrowing as she stared back at him. "Are you okay? Is Kate okay?"
Tharman forced himself to nod, staring down at his hands, "I just think we need to have a talk."
Mary nodded slowly, sitting on her sofa, gesturing for him to do the same. "Is this a... You might have an STD talk or...?"
Tharman's head shot up in surprise, his eyes wide as he shook his head, "No I haven't- I haven't been with anyone else since my wife and-"
"I'm joking." Mary cut him off softly, chuckling "I just wanted to see if I could get you to look at me."
He smiled, and his heart ached in his chest as he stared back at her, so beautiful with her hair piled atop her head and her pyjamas on. "Um- Mary, I've... really enjoyed the time we've spent together but I can't give you what you want, what you deserve so I think it's better if we finish this now before it gets too serious."
"Why?"
He'd expected so many things. Screaming and crying and guilt to cling to him as she hurled allegations at him, he hadn't expected her calm shrug.
"Why?" It caught him by surprise, "I- like I said I can't give you what you deserve so-"
"Why can't you give me what I want?"
"I'm-"
"Are you already married?"
"What? No."
Mary nodded, "Then you don't want children?"
Tharman sighed, "I have a daughter, you remember? She tricked you into going out with me in the first place. And I always wanted more kids, at least one more."
Mary nodded, staring back at him before she clicked her tongue, "Then I don't get it, because all I want is someone who loves me. I want to be a wife and mother, and have my career and that's it. And Kate didn't trick me into anything. If I didn't like you I would have told you no like I have to every other man whose asked me out since."
"Mary, I don't want to tie you down and-"
"Tharman, I love you."
That stopped him, just as much as her hand on his cheek did, and his breath shuddered in his chest.
"I love you, and I love Kate and I could be good for her. I would love her and I would treat her like she was my daughter. If you can tell me you don't love me I'll let you go, but if you love me too: Marry me."
He stared back at her for a long moment, his heart thrumming in his chest and he could see an entire life stretching out in front of them. Kate and Mary tucked up together. Another child, a boy or a girl, it didn't matter, all he knew was that he wanted. And it would be the most selfish thing he'd ever done, but he did it anyway.
"Get dressed."
Mary blinked at him, her brow furrowing. "What?"
Tharman sighed, "We can go and buy an engagement ring with you in pyjamas if you like but I thought you might want to get dressed."
"We're not going anywhere." Mary gasped her hands closing around the front of his shirt, dragging him down until his hips were cradled in hers. "Not yet."
And in the years that followed, Tharman was nothing but grateful that Mary had known what she wanted even if he'd been too scared to asked for it.

Ever since I was in my first year, I have feared the thought of finally entering our clinic year. Now, I am a few months away from it and I have never felt so clueless about everything that's happening. We're taking things one day at a time and trying to learn as much as we could.
We took high-yield subjects this semester starting with the second part of our Contact Lens course. Contact Lens 2 focused on fitting toric and hard contact lenses. It was interesting to discover different ways to insert and remove the lenses. I particularly enjoyed the removal of the rigid gas permeable CL.
During our Contact Lens 2 class, we were also lucky enough to attend lectures on Myopia Management. There, I have learned the various lenses we can prescribe someday to help control myopia progression. I loved learning the mechanisms of how myopia can be prevented and sights can be saved.
This month, one of the subjects we are taking is Clinical Pediatric Optometry. I look forward to it as it is one of the specializations I consider on taking in the future. We are also looking into Vision Rehabilitation which has been fun as we have finished our Clinical Low Vision class from the previous months.
The case report from my story the other day is from our Clinical Neuroanatomy. It took some time before we had a grasp on what was happening with the case but I missed immersing myself in academic reading and ended up enjoying looking into the articles available.
Do stay safe in this heat and don’t forget to wear your sunscreen!

Ugh, vision therapy makes me so angry.
For those who are not familiar, vision therapy is basically the idea that you can do eye exercises to fix certain conditions, mostly eye related ones.
Some of the more obviously scammy vision therapy stuff comes up in situations where it's pretty clearly never going to fix the thing it says it will fix- for example, eye exercises will never make you less nearsighted because nearsightedness is caused by the shape of your eyeball.
But I mostly see it come up in strabismus communities, and it's especially frustrating for me there.
(Strabismus is misaligned eyes - one eye pointing forward and one pointing in or out, for example. It can cause double vision, vision loss in one eye, and/or lack of depth perception)
The thing that makes it so frustrating in strabismus spaces is that there is some evidence that some vision therapy can help with some specific types of strabismus, as far as I can tell. But I haven't found evidence that it can help with other types of strabismus, such as the one that I have, and some people have reported that it makes things worse for them.
It's also expensive and not generally covered by insurance, or not covered very well.
When I first sought help for my strabismus, the optometrist I saw did try to get me to do vision therapy, which I declined because it was expensive, time consuming, and I didn't think there was enough evidence that it would help in my specific situation. She also prescribed me bifocals that did absolutely nothing, but acted very friendly and understanding and knowledgeable.
I eventually did get help that was actually effective - prism lenses and then eventually surgery, which is helping so far but there's always the risk I'll need prism again in the future because we don't really know why strabismus happens in some cases.
But I feel so bad when I see people saying things like how they're paying $1,000 a month for more than 2 years for their kid to do vision therapy and it isn't working.
They're under significant financial strain because they want to do the right thing and provide appropriate medical care for their kid, and it's being offered by people in regular optometry places that give you your normal eye exams, so it seems trustworthy.
But at the end of the day it's $1,000 a month for something that, as far as I can tell as a lay person, seems pretty controversial among experts and even if it might be helpful I think people probably should have more context than they're getting about that.
It just seems frustratingly easy to take advantage of people when it comes to medical conditions that don't have clearly understood causes and where all of the methods of treatment are at least a little bit risky and uncertain. Particularly when the current gold standard is surgery, which people are understandably wary of.
I'm not judging or frustrated by anyone who chooses to do vision therapy - like I said, it can be helpful for some specific situations. But I am frustrated at people trying to sell it as a one-size-fits-all solution without providing any appropriate context and while charging people exorbitant amounts of money for it.
(Disclaimer that I'm not a medical professional and this is not medical advice. I'm just a person with strabismus who has looked things up on the internet and spoken to multiple doctors about this stuff)
