You were so young and sweet just experiencing your early 20’s. Haru finds it hard to believe a sweet little thing like you caught eyes for someone like him, 29 -going on 30-, married to his job, a bachelor for most of his life, and relatively plain. You had run into one another when you were searching for your brother, he had the tendency to run off whenever given the opportunity yet cried hysterically when realizing he was lost after sating his curiosity to explore without his big sister.

Walking down the streets now to a nearby park is where you stumbled across your sobbing brother and a man, immediately you rushed over on high alert swiping up the toddler and putting distance between yourself and this stranger. Haru, realizing what was happening, revealed his badge stating he was a police officer and that he was just trying to help seemed to make you visibly relax. Setting your sibling down he ran over to Haru and thanked him for his help to which Haru patted his head saying he was glad he was able to do assist. You ask Haru for his number after stating that your brother did this on a near daily basis and that maybe you should get his number for next time you need help to which he flusteredly complied.

The next day you texted him asking for his help and to meet you at a downtown location. When he showed up worried about your brother you were quick to put him at ease telling Haru your brother was safe and with your parents. Deciding to clear him of his confusion you tell him, “You said to text you if I ever needed help but you never really specified it so I need help to make this a date.” Your heated cheeks and hopeful eyes never broke away from his own until he complied, these antics of yours continued as opportunities to create more dates with Haru.

He learned you were in your early 20’s, just recently moved out of your parents place, you babysit your kid brother, where you were born and raised, your ethnicity, that you’re in college, and how you always wear your heart on your sleeve. Making it vocally and openly known to Haru that you have a crush on him. He couldn’t understand it. On the many adventures you set up there had been multiple times when he’d be coming back from the restroom to see boys much younger than him and far more attractive flirt with you and you continuously turned each and everyone of them down without a second thought only to twist the knife of rejection further when your eyes light up at the sight of Haru’s return.

It made him feel like a teenager all over again to have someone as young and beautiful as you vie after his love and attention. It wasn't until Haru’s 30th birthday, while you were celebrating with him did you confront him with the knot tying question, “will you be my boyfriend?” Sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck he agrees and you celebrate, absolutely elated.

“Can I ask you a question?” Haru’s voice brings you out of your mini celebration and you look over to him, “You’re so straight forward, why?”

Raising an eyebrow to his question, “Because I want to be with you Haru, if I tipped toed around what I wanted then we wouldn’t be here right now. I want to be with you so I’m gonna be as forward as I can with and for you.” His face flushed at your confession and he pulls you in for a hug. He buries his face in the crook of your neck as you giggled at his reaction, wrapping your arms around his body to bring him closer.

You shift in Haru's arms, pressing your face deeper into his chest as your fingers twist the fabric of his unbuttoned bed shirt.

His hands run gently up and down your back, soothing you as they pull you into him.

"I already am," he says softly.

"Then hold me closer," you say, choking as your voice falters. "Until there's no space left between us. I don't ever want to be apart from you again. Not even by a centimetre."

Haru pulls you into him tighter, his heartbeat pulsing in your ear, reverberating in your head and through your bones, right to the centre of your being. Your legs are intertwined under the covers as he rests inside you, filling you up. Making you feel whole.

Whole in a way that nobody has ever made you feel before.

"Shh, it's okay," he hushes, placing gentle, loving kisses on your forehead. Tears brim at the corners of his eyes, the feeling of being so utterly connected to you overwhelming him. "It's okay, I'm here. I've got you."

"I know," you whisper into him. You toy with the loose button on his clothes, picking and pulling at it. "Please, Haru. Don't stop holding me."

"I won't," he says, his lips trembling as they find yours.

Heaven. Nirvana. Elysium – what are they, but mere mortal words that fall short of your own euphoria?

His breaths shake, ghosting over your skin, sending shivers cascading down your body. Your body – kept warm by his, and his by yours.

"Promise me?" you ask, your lips brushing against his.

He kisses you again, slowly. Softly. Deeply. You can taste him.

"I'll never stop holding you," he says, carefully holding your face in his hands as he looks you in the eye. He then cradles you against him. "I promise."

And Haru always protects his promises.

You shot up from your pillow, breathing erratic and unsteady as you recalled the frightening nightmare. you gripped the satin sheets surrounding you, feeling tears flow down your cheeks as your heart pounded against your ribcage. God, there was no way you could go back to sleep now.

“(Name)?”

You glanced to the side, vision blurry, but you could make out the familiar figure of your boyfriend. He slowly got up to sit, sleepily rubbing his eyes before looking at you with concern.

‘’Daisuke... I’m sorry,” you mumbled, trying incredibly hard to steady your breaths, incoherent thoughts racing through your mind as you tried to process the horrific dream that you just had. It was so... disturbing. You couldn’t get it off your mind no matter how hard you tried; you needed a distraction.

“Honey, are you alright? Did you have a nightmare?” His soothingly deep voice broke through your thoughts as a warm hand came to rub gentle circles around your back.

You nodded, eyes trained solely on your hands gripping the bed sheets as you trembled, the tears refusing to slow. You chewed on your lip, doing your best to muffle the sobs that were slipping through your mouth.

Daisuke sighed, his face contorting with worry as he observed your disturbed state. “Come here, darling.” He told you, arms opening up to offer you an embrace.

You silently obeyed, scooting along the bed into his lap. He wrapped his strong arms around you, his fingers finding purchase in your hair, massaging your scalp as he planted kisses around your face. “I love you,” he whispered, his lips traveling to your jaw and your neck as his other hand remained secure around your waist, drawing little patterns on your skin underneath your shirt. 

He pulled back, wiping off your tears and giving you a forehead kiss before gently guiding you off him to stand up from the bed. “I’ll be right back, sweetheart. Stay here for a minute,” he said, leaving to the kitchen.

You nodded silently, feeling your limbs grow cold at the absence of his touch. You knew he would be back in a jiffy, but you were still scared, and the onslaught of thoughts brought on from your dream threatened to wreak havoc on your brain once again.

After a minute or so, Daisuke returned with a mug of warm milk. He sat next to you, and gingerly placed the mug into your hands. “Drink,” he whispered, a hand sliding around to slowly rub your back as you started to drink. He hummed you a slow song, placing kisses onto your neck and shoulder in between.

Once you had finished what you could of the warm drink, he laid down with you, pulling you flat to his chest with his warm arms as he dipped down to give you the softest of kisses. He gently squeezed your waist, a silent promise that he would crush any bad thought or dream that threatened to come your way. He brought a hand up to brush the hair out of your face, kissing your nose and the corners of your mouth before placing a peck to your lips. “I love you so much,” he mumbled sleepily, your noses nudging together as his hand found yours, gentle fingers tracing patterns up and down the front and back of your palm. The warmth of his affection and the after effects of the drink you had lulled you back to sleep, and Daisuke fought off any threats to your mind with the strength of his love, his arms protectively around your sleeping figure, your head resting in the crook of his neck while his hand cradled the back of your head, fingers stroking  gently through your locks as he followed you into dreamland.
