Your fic “Flayed” is one of my all time favorites. It’s so in character even in a modern fantasy au. What kind of life would they have together after the end of the fic?

I have notes written for an epilogue chapter, but I so rarely finish things that I've been savoring having Flayed done lol

Spoilers beneath the cut in case anyone wants to read the fic first <3

My merman!Billy fic here ~

But the epilogue would involve Steve's parents adjusting. Whether or not they would Know™ about the fishiness is still up in the air. Mr. H. would be learning about sign language and deciding which country's SL would be the most practical for Billy, since they travel a lot and he's likely going to need to interact outside the family at some point.

Mrs. H. used to be a dancer, so she starts working with Billy on physical therapy, strength training, and maybe even getting a trusted family doctor to do a house call to check Billy for nerve damage. (He's fine, but his healing kind of plateaus and he still deals with chronic pain.)

Since Max is somewhat introduced, the epilogue would involve Steve finding Billy at the lagoon, visiting with her. Billy convinces Steve to let her come topside (which is huge since Billy's own transition is A Lot).

But of course Steve isn't going to let his fish husband be without any source of happiness, so Max joins the fam. She's a menace and Mrs. H. loves her. She also gains the comfort and ability to use her physical voice faster than Billy does, but Billy prefers to use his mental voice, and only with Steve, Max, and occasionally Mrs. H even though she isn't the biggest fan of it (this would be if Steve's parents are aware of Billy's origins).

And most importantly, out of the water, Billy starts growing body hair. Steve loves it. Damn boy won't leave Billy alone. Billy really dislikes it at first. He didn't know he was capable of growing the "strange patterns" like Steve, but he can feel Steve's genuine infatuation with his new "pattern" and likes that a lot, since it's how Steve was supposed to react to Billy's mating fins emerging in the first place lol
