i saw this post: “bitches in fandoms will use "the women aren't well developed characters and they're boring bc the writers are misogynists and didn't give them anything >:(((" as an excuse to never talk about any female characters but then they'll have an entire made up backstory and 700 fics on ao3 for background male character #4 who doesn't have a canonical last name. “
and this relates sooo much to hp fandom. i love drarry and wolfstar but sometimes the things i see about reg is just kinda… that. we are talking about his door sign (bc ofc we read this glimpse in the book) and his story is very good indeed since he’s like an anti-hero but idk if it’s bc the original writing but we don’t talk much about the female characters that much. like i’ve never seen bunch of fics that detail hermione dealing with her parents after the war, how they could have felt betrayed that she made then forget their whole lives. i read one hermione/millicent fic that talks abt it but nothing… deeper. we don’t see much abt pansy potentially breaking down after trying to give harry to voldemort. my point is we never explore much of these characters. i’ve never seen fic festivals abt them. it’s all about the men in the universe and don’t get me wrong i love them but i wish we’d put more effort in writing wlw media and that we could discuss a female character’s little things or traumas.
i’m sending this to you bc i love your blog and i’m looking for more sapphic content! and i’m begging other ppl in hp fandom to reflect on it. anyway if you have any blog or fic recs that really focus on the female characters, i’d like to know! sorry if there’s any mistake, english isn’t my first language
I think this is a really nuanced topic and yes there is truth in the message of the post and what you’re saying but it’s also not the whole picture if that makes sense? It would require like an essay on fandom, gender and sexuality to explore M/M vs F/F topic (and there are many great ones!).
I want to approach it from a different angle with my reply, that they do exist. Pandora, Mary, Dorcas and Marlene are also only named in canon but have a big fanon presence. There are people who write and engage with female characters to that depth and with so much passion.
They’re not as visible, I agree, but it’s a self-perpetuating issue. They also feel alone in creating their works even though there are multiple, several posts like this. I’m gonna tag some accounts to check out down below, please use them as a jumping point to connect with creatives!

((Here’s a little something for the @flonksfest 2020!! For the prompt of week one: vacation (it’s a bit too late but shh)))
~~~
God, Tonks thinks, aren’t trips to the beech supposed to be relaxing? She looks around, quickly sitting up. Her friends have apparently already gone home while Tonks had been asleep.
Emphasis on had been. She was rudely woken by a beech ball hitting her square on the face. “Hey!”, she yells towards the little girl with the pale blond hair next to her, “Is this yours?”
The girl nods, looking a bit shy. Tonks attempts to throw the ball at her, but it gets caught by the wind. The girl runs after it, and after she’s reached it she looks at Tonks with a toothy smile. Tonks grins back.
Then she closes her eyes and tries to soak in the sun. After the warmth has made it’s home within her core, she slowly opens her eyes again, only to find the little girl staring at her.
Tonks smiles friendly at her, and then goes cross-eyed and sticks out her tongue. The little girl giggles, and tries to imitate her. Tonks raises her eyebrows and opens her mouth in an exaggerated delighted look, and the little girl giggles harder.
Then, and this is where it all goes to shit, Tonks pulls up her nose in a pig-like fashion and wiggles her eyebrows. The little girl laughs so hard that Tonks can still hear it where she’s sitting, and one of the people that had been with the little girl looks up to find the source of her laughter.
This leads to Tonks making eyecontact with the most beautiful woman she’s ever seen. She seems to be the big sister of the other girl, with the same pale hair. She also has gorgeous blue eyes, and she seems almost otherworldly.
Tonks quickly retracts her hand from her nose, but the damage has already been done. The older sister laughs, with a undertone that is most certainly mocking, and then she walks over to Tonks.
“Hello,” she says, and the french accent only adds to the etherealness of her voice. It definitely has some grounded undertones, though. It sounds, Tonks decides, like the sight of leaves blowing in the wind. “I see you are getting along well with my sister.”
Tonks pretends that she didn’t just embarass herself royally, and says, “Oh yeah?”. (Don’t judge her. It’s very hard to make good conversation on a normal day, let alone with someone as lovely as this.)
“Oh yeah,” The women repeats, “You looked very ridiculous. But that was the point, no?”
Fuck. Tonks thinks her bluntness is attractive. As if it makes her more real, somehow? “Well, your sister liked it!”
That gets a genuine, warm smile from the woman. She must care a lot for her sister. (Cute.) “She did. Should I thank you for that, miss? Or is it mister?”
As always, Tonks feels a little spark of joy at being reminded of how androgynous she looks, even though she is a woman right now. “Miss, for now. But you can always call me Tonks!”
A frown appears between two blonde eyebrows. Tonks wants to smooth it out with her thumb. “For now?”
“Well...” Tonks says, one hand coming up to  rub the back of her neck. “What can I say? Genders are weird.” Please be normal about it, please be normal about it please be normal about-
The women snorts. “Tell me about it.” Wait what. Also holy hell has Tonks been assuming their gender all this time she should unlearn that habit.
“You are..? Although, you don’t have to share if you don’t want to, of course!”
“I am a trans woman, yes.” She holds her head up high, defiant almost, but Tonks just smiles wider.
“That’s awesome! We’ve got to hang out now.”
She blinks. “We... do?”
Tonks nods. “Yep! Do you know how many trans friends I have?”
“Well?”
“Zero. It’s a tragedy.”
The woman chuckles (it sounds even nicer than her voice). “That goes for me, too. I’ll have to tell my parents we’re “hanging out”, wait here.”
“Your... parents?”
“Yes, I’m here with my family.” After seeing Tonks confused look, the woman laughs, “You thought I was here with my sister, but without the rest of my family?”
It sounds kind of weird, now that Tonks hears it aloud. Not that she’ll admit that. “Well, see you soon then. What’s your name again?”
“It’s Fleur.” the gorgeous woman says, and then she turns around, all flowing blond hair and billowing summer dress.
~~~
Tonks took her to her cousin’s place. They took her to other places too, of course, to the park and movies and whatever caught her fancy, but this one felt different.
(It felt like a milestone.)
Not that they showed it. They opened the door as nonchalantly as ever, announced themselves just as loud as any other time, fell only once while taking off their shoes.
Sirius, after hearing the loud thud, said: “Oh, hi Tonks.”
“Tonks and Fleur!” they corrected him, and regretted that immediately the moment his eyes light up with mischief.
“So this is the infamous Fleur we heard so much about.” Great, Remus was there too.
Remus, at least, had the decency to introduce himself before ushering them into the living room. Tonks allowed themselves to relax.
“What a lovely home you have, mi- Remus.” It’s the most polite thing Tonks has ever heard Fleur say, and just for a moment it knocked the wind out of them. What if she did this because of Tonks, to impress their family? It’s a ridiculous thought, one that Tonks found it hard to let go of.
“Thank you,” Remus said, taking a sip of his tea. At that moment, Sirius barged into the living room from who-knows-where, something book-like held high in the air.
Tonks buried their head in their hands.
“Look, Fleur!”, he said, “I found some old pictures of Tonks!”
Fleur accepted it with a smile. Tonks feared for their life.
“They were such a bald baby.” Fleur said, voice full of delight, and Tonks thought it was almost all worth it for that smile. Almost.
“Indeed,” Sirius nodded, “I have this theory that they want their hair to stand out so much because it wasn’t there when they were young. Like a giant sign saying: ‘Look! I have hair now!”
Fleur laughed. Remus added on: “Well, to be fair, they do have hair.”
“Thank you.” Tonks said pointedly, even though they were pretty sure it wasn’t really a compliment.
“There are a lot of pictures of Tonks hugging you here.” Fleur remarked, her face angled towards Remus. Tonks cheeks flared red.
“Are there?” Remus asked innocently. “Well, they did have a crush on me, after all.”
Fleur sat upright at that. “They did?”
“I’m over it now!” The words left Tonks mouth without their permission.
“Obviously.” Fleur said, one eyebrow raised. What was that supposed to mean?
“It was pretty cute,” Remus commented over his mug, but Tonks just knew that he was smiling smugly from behind it, “They would follow me around, and blush all the time. One time they even dyed their hair the same colour as mine.”
Fleur snorted at that. “What even was the logic behind that?”
Tonks was overjoyed to have an answer to that (not that it was a good answer, per se) “Well, people dye their hair the colour they think looks best, right?”.
“Right.” Fleur said, amused.
“And seeing as he didn’t dye it, brown had to be his favourite!”
“Not true.” Sirius butted in, “Black is his favourite.”
One of Remus’ hands found its way into Sirius’ black hair. “One Black in particular.”
Tonks threw a put-out look Fleur’s way. Fleur nodded, a motion that’s way too graceful for only being so short. “Guess that’s our cue to leave. See ya!”
Sirius broke the eye contact with Remus purely to yell after them. “Are you going to meet her family now?”
Tonks looked at Fleur’s face, hoping against hope that she didn’t hear it. The hope dissipated the moment they saw the thoughtful look on her face. “You’d have to be quick to do that. The plane leaves in two days.”
It’s a very bright, sunny day, but suddenly a cold crept deep into Tonks’ bones. Two days was not enough time. They need months, years, to get to know this amazing person beside them.
“Tonks? You okay?”
Tonks willed their heavy expression to dissipate like a cloud for the sun, paying no attention to the puddles it left behind. “Of course! Just zoned out a little.”
Fleur didn’t seem too convinced. Tonks smiles broadly. “Guess I’ll have to be quick! It’s only fair, you not only got to meet my parents, but my cousin too.”
“Yes, your cousin is very nice.”
As Tonks started a long rant about all the times where Sirius wasn’t very nice, they watched the corners of Fleur’s mouth go up, and they decided to savour the moment for as long as it lasts.
~~~
“Why’s your hair red?” Fleur asks.
She’s laying on Tonks’ bed, in her shitty apartment. Tonks is sitting close to the edge, Fleur’s head so close that Tonks could trail her hands through her hair if she wanted (and oh, how she wants). Fleur is leaving tomorrow.
“Well, remember Charlie?” At Fleur’s nod, Tonks continues. “He’s as ginger as can be, and it seemed a fitting tribute when he left for Romania.”
Fleur hums. “Did you dye it yourself?”
“Yeah. I’ve gotten quite good at it over the years.”
Fleur looks at her hair intensively, as if to see wether that’s true, and Tonks preens a little under the attention.
“Wanna do mine?”
Tonks blinks. “You want red hair?”
“I was thinking of pink, actually.”
Tonks doesn’t answer, but Fleur keeps looking at her, and this is when she realized she hasn’t really answered yet.
“I’ll do it. I’ve still got a full bottle left from last time.”
Fleur frowns up at her. “Will that be enough? I think I want the whole lower half done.”
“I think so?”
Fleur gets up at that. “Where are we doing this?”
“In the bathroom.”
Just before Fleur leaves the room Tonks says: “Wait.”
“What is it?”
“Take this.” Tonks pushes an old, faded shirt into Fleur’s hands. “It’s my dye shirt.” she says under Fleur’s imploring eyes. “It’s already stained and stuff. So that you don’t get anything on your shirt.”
“Thank you.”
“No problem.”
~~~
Tonks has gathered just about everything when Fleur walks in wearing her clothes. It’s as painful as a punch in the gut, but a lot more beautiful. Tonks averts their eyes.
“Is your floor supposed to look like this?”
Tonks nods, “The newspapers are against stains. They are a pretty permanent part of the bathroom now.”
Fleur smiles, then sits down in the chair, looking as radiant as ever.
Tonks swallows. “I’ll apply vaseline around your face first, otherwise your face will be pink too.”
“Sure.”
Tonks realizes, the moment their hand touches Fleur’s forehead, that Fleur could have easily done this herself. They make eyecontact. Tonks focuses on Fleur’s hairline again.
It’s silent, and Tonks feels as if they should talk, as if they should ask about the millions of things they still want to know about Fleur before she leaves, but it won’t be enough anyway. They stay silent. Until they poke into Fleur’s eye, that is.
“Oh shit. I am so so sorry-”
“-It’s okay, really.”
“-I’m just dead clumsy, but this really wasn’t my intention-”
“I know, okay? I know.”
Tonks looks into Fleur’s eyes again, so intent to see wether she was hurt or not that they forget about the closeness for a while. Fleur’s face is remarkably kind, and trusting, and she seems... open. “Okay.”
Once again a silence falls, but Tonks has made as much peace with the idea of Fleur leaving as they can (which means that she’s debated moving to France only twice), and they only say something when they are explaining the next part of the procedure.
Sometimes their fingers brush along Fleur’s neck, and they imagine a shiver, imagine it affects Fleur as much as it affects them. (Tonks wants to drop a kiss on her neck)
When Tonks is done she helps Fleur with putting on a shower cap to protect her hair. Then Fleur keeps her head in the same position, face angled up towards Tonks. Their breath catches in their throat.
“What is it?” they ask, softly, as not to disturb this delicate moment.
“The vaseline is still on my face.”
“Oh. Right.”
Tonks carefully wipes away the vaseline with a paper towel, and they can’t help but notice Fleur’s beauty over and over and over again, in the glint in her eyes, in the arch of her eyebrows, in the smile in her voice.
When all the vaseline is gone their hand travels down Fleur’s face, cupping it. Fleur’s eyes, which had been closed, open at that, and she smiles calmly, before slowly bridging the small gap between their mouths.
Tonks doesn’t stop her, because how could they? There isn’t a universe in which they could possibly resist Fleur Delacour.
Their back is uncomfortably close to the kitchen sink, but one of Fleur’s hands is carding through their short hair, so it’s fine, really.
Then Fleur pulls away, just the smallest bit, and her lips brush against Tonks’ as she speaks. “Finally.”
Tonks just stares at her in wonder, until the realization dawns on them. “Shit.” they say.
Fleur’s eyes widen. “Did you not want this? I am so sorry-”
“No!” Tonks says. “It’s not that. But you are leaving soon, and I’m only making this worse.”
And then Fleur laughs. It starts small, but soon enough her whole body is shaking and gasping for breath. “Merde.” She says. “Tu es stupide.”
Tonks glares playfully at her. “I understood that!”
Fleur pays no attention to that, grasps Tonks’ face between her hands, and says: “My family is leaving, okay? I live here.”
“Oh.” Tonks says, and she’s so, so, relieved. They kiss Fleur again, smiling. Fleur is smiling too, so the kissing is far from ideal, but it’s perfect. It’s all perfect.

Fleur shaves off all her hair. Tonks changes pronouns, and some other things too. It turns out that Fleur's got a sharper bite than Tonks thought. And Tonks likes people with a sharp bite.

@wolfstarhq. My best mutie. I would write you a thousand fics to launch a thousand ships (this is funny because it’s tumblr punny and literary and we’re both nerds). Also recently read the gay love story of Achilles x Patroclus in “A Song of Achilles and I highly recommend it to anyone, but especially classics nerds.
ALSO I am already working on my amazing FlonksFest fic! (Amazing fest, not amazing fic, but we’ll see how it goes). Because I want to be able to reblog this for the fest also, I also worked in one of the prompts from the list.

“FUCK,” bellowed Tonks.
“Get her on the table,” said Remus’ voice tightly.
“She’s bleeding everywhere.” That was Sirius. He was carrying her in his arms.
“FUCK,” she yelled again.
“Fuck,” agreed Sirius, his voice threading with panic.
She knew there was a warm wetness between them.
“Move aside, Mr. Black.” That was Flitwick, looking small and grave and worried as Sirius thunked her hips onto the table. Flitwick still called them all by their last names.
Tonks realized she couldn’t hold up her own weight with her abs as her head hit the table with a sound like someone had dropped a cantaloupe. She saw stars.
“Careful,” chided Flitwick.
She could feel her shirt being ripped back by someone’s spell. She had loved this shirt. Vintage. Her mum’s from the seventies. Or was it the sixties? A real Water Bugs original. And now she couldn’t even repair it, with the nasty curse that had rent the fabric apart.
Flitwick was poking at her skin.
“We should get Poppy.” Remus again. He was close with Madame Pomfrey. She had cared for him in his transformations.
“She’s busy at school,” argued Sirius. “By the time you apparate into Hogsmeade and run there –“ He didn’t finish, and Tonks felt her eyes flick to Flitwick, trying not to panic. It would be too late.
“Healing is a charm,” Flitwick said in a tight, squeaky voice. “And we can’t afford to pull Poppy here. If that woman at the school finds out we are diverting resources to the Order… Minerva and Severus are watching her right now. But I can do what I can to patch Ms. Tonks up. Keep her skin together.”
“Keep her from dying?” Remus was very white. He had taken this personally because Tonks had jumped in front of him.
Flitwick was tart: “No one is dying.”
Tonks felt warm wetness sluice over her hands. She thought for a moment it was relief, and then she realized she was trying to hold the gash in her side closed.
“Move your hands, please.”
But her hands wouldn’t move. She didn’t know how to move them. Her body was rigid.
Remus was there instantly. He was used to rigid muscles, and he dragged her hands away, up over her head, passing one to Sirius to hold. She gripped onto both of them, gasping, feeling her lungs pressing against her ribs as Flitwick held her skin together; his hands were bright red. His wand was between his teeth.
“I need a hand.”
Sirius volunteered, holding one half of her skin so Flitwick could grip his wand.
“This will-“ started Flitwick, but didn’t finish in the pandemonium that followed.
Tonks screamed as her flesh began burning back together. Her legs twisted and cramped up, her spine flew up off the table. She left nail marks in Remus’ wrist. Sirius used an elbow on her other hand to hold her down.
“HOLD HER STILL!” Flitwick was yelling.
“WHAT’S GOING ON?” It was Bill Weasley. His team had come back from their mission. They had gone out in groups of four; one veteran, one new recruit per team. She had been the new recruit.
“Filius!” It was Professor Sprout, who had been paired with Bill Weasley, his brother Charlie, and that foreigner girl – Fleur Delacour.
“Hold her still,” Flitwick said again, and Tonks realized she had blacked out a moment; her vision was swimming. Her hands were bright red, leaving smears in her upside down vision on Remus’ oatmeal colored sweater. Sirius’ black shirt was blacker in the middle. Her own long wisps of pink hair was stuck under one of his armpits.
Time was moving strangely. Bill and Charlie were holding her legs down. She liked Charlie – always had – and yet she was trying as hard as she could to kick him in the face as she started screaming again, but not a movie theater scream; not for haunted houses. She was yelling hoarsely, grunting. Slamming her head into the table. The stupid table in the basement of this stupid house that her stupid cousin had –
A floating blonde head was moving forward in her upside down vision. Tonks felt she was staring at a large, glittering bird. It was sort of silvery, but with thick pouting lips like those in the magazines and Tonks felt her own ordinarily thin lips snap shut on the yell.
She wouldn’t give this stupid girl the satisfaction. She was younger than Tonks. Tonks was twenty-four. Turning twenty-five in April. Charlie’s age. Bill was twenty-seven. But she…she was only nineteen. And for a brief flash, she looked nineteen. She looked scared and confused, and Tonks slumped in the grip of her cousin and his boyfriend (“just friends,” they protested, and quietly everyone disbelieved them).
“All finished,” said Flitwick. “It’ll leave a scar.”
“Cool,” said Tonks, panting at the ceiling.
Charlie, Sirius, and Bill laughed.
“Get her some water,” said Professor Sprout.
The sleek thing – was she a mink? She seemed like something sleek like that. Like a ridiculously beautiful slick thing. A white ermine, Tonks decided. That would be her patronus. Something that would hiss angrily if cornered. She brought the glass from the tap. It was dirty, but a whispered, wandless spell swirled the glass and suddenly the water and glass were sparkling. A beautiful, rare bit of magic.
“Help me up,” and Tonks didn’t recognize her own voice. It was hoarse and brittle with screaming.
Strong forearms pulled hard on her shoulders. She let Remus and Sirius lever her up.
“Thanks,” she panted. Her stomach ached, and when she looked down at the skin, it had a white, burned looking scar. She knew if she concentrated, it would disappear, swallowed up. But only if she kept her concentration, like sucking her stomach in. She shook her head in wonder.
“Lucky that curse didn’t pierce any organs,” tutted Sprout.
“It did. A kidney,” said Flitwick, and Tonks saw he looked as grey as she felt. “It probably looks much like the outside.”
“It’s okay,” Tonks panted. “Thanks.” She glanced up over her shoulder to Sirius, who was standing, arms crossed across his stained black shirt. “And thanks.”
“Course.” Sirius grinned with half his face. “Do you know what your mother would do to me if I had let you die?”
They both laughed weakly.
Tonks looked at her stomach again and realize rather dully she was wearing the ripped Water Bugs shirt like a vest, her capelet still marginally fastened around her shoulders, the edges dipped in her blood. Her bra was old and pink. She was embarrassed. She wore the thing under white clothes. It wasn’t exactly the sort of thing that was supposed to be seen in public.
As if on cue, the glittering thing that was certainly too lovely to be a human girl came forward with a dishtowel.
“May I?” she asked, her English heavily accented.
Tonks nodded, too tired to speak, and she – Fleur, Tonks had to remind herself – tucked the dishtowel into the straps of her bra so it covered her a bit. A modicum of decency.
“Where are the others?” Bill Weasley was asking loudly. “Why is no one else here?”
“We caught trouble,” said Remus tiredly. “I don’t know what the others caught. We had to get out fast.”
“We have to go back out,” Charlie, this time. He looked determined.
Flitwick stood up, still looking wan.
“No, Filius, stay,” Sprout protested.
“He’s our best dueler,” Sirius argued. “Even half dead, we need him.”
“Thank you Mr. Black,” said Flitwick, with a little smile of his own. “But I’m hardly half dead.”
“Are you sure?” Bill asked him seriously.
“We need to leave someone with Tonks.”
There was an awkward pause where no one looked at Fleur, who looked angry.
“Why should I ‘ave to stay?”
“You’re the junior member,” Tonks heard herself saying, grinning when all eyes spun towards her. “The one to leave first.”
“Not true,” said Remus loyally, patting her arm. “You saved my life.”
“You fought very well,” squeaked Flitwick.
“But you have to stay put,” finished Sirius.
“And…well…you’re very young,” Charlie finished to Fleur awkwardly.
“I was a Triwizard Champion!” Fleur shot back angrily.
“And this isn’t a tournament,” said Bill, just as angrily. “Stay with Tonks.”
“Yes sir,” sneered Fleur, and Bill looked confused, like his better nature was warring with attraction or temper or desire or –
“She doesn’t have to,” Tonks said quickly. “I’m fine. Look at me. I’m fine.”
But evidently looking at her was a mistake, because all seven of them fell quiet, and Tonks blushed. She knew her hair had flickered back to mouse brown. Her eyes also brown and no longer sparkling. She hadn’t been concentrating. She clearly looked a huge mess.
“I will stay,” Fleur said finally, unwillingly, into the brittle tension as Charlie checked his watch, clearly doing the mental math of how long they had left the two other groups fighting.
No one thanked her. No one even said anything other than Bill, who seemed to be in charge without thinking, Sprout talking to Flitwick in low voices.
“In two marks. First ours, and then yours. Three and three.” There was three sharp cracks at the same time, and Charlie, Bill, and Sprout were gone. Then a split second and another three, with Flitwicks’ as the faintest, the most experienced, and Remus, Sirius, and the Charms professor vanished too, leaving only the two women staring at one another across the dingy kitchen.
Tonks realized she was still sitting on the table, and she slid off of it while Fleur said:
“No..eet is too dangerous…stay,” ineffectually as Tonks stood up, woozy. She staggered, and Fleur rushed forwards.
“Eet is fine now. You are fine?” More a question than a statement, and Tonks looked over her shoulder at the kitchen table, the dishes broken on the floor where they had been swept by Remus’ impatient hands, the long streaks of drying blood.
“We should clean up,” Tonks said, breathing rather harder than she meant to. Her insides felt burned. Which, she supposed, they were.
“’Ere. You stand ‘ere and I shall do zee cleaning,” Fleur said, leaning Tonks against a counter and letting her take her weight on her leaning legs.
Fleur pulled out an icy white wand. Birch wood. Of course, Tonks thought irritated. As showy as the rest of her.
She observed Fleur from under her eyebrows, pretending to be taking off the rest of her capelet and shirt as a way to mask the scrutiny. Fleur was easily scrubbing the table, the repaired dishes reassembling themselves and filtering into the sink to be cleaned instead of back into their places. She magically pulled new dishes from the cabinets, setting them in fancier place settings than Tonks thought Sirius might ever bother with, using the old family silver goblets, napkins wrapping around silverware, laying themselves over stacked salad plates as the twelve places were set, the chairs being tucked into place instead of scattered around the room.
Tonks was terrible at these kinds of household magics, at cleaning and brightening, organizing. All the things her mother was quite good at. She felt a pang of embarrassment, though her mother wasn’t here to see. Instead, Tonks trained her eyes on Fleur, observing her even as Fleur turned around to look at her.
She had a long sheet of silvery blonde hair, a flat, heart shaped face with a small chin, thick lips, a soft nose. She looked like a princess from a fairy story, with dark blue eyes and long brown eyelashes. She wasn’t wearing makeup, and yet Tonks knew without a doubt she was lovelier in her natural face than Tonks had ever been, whichever face she wore. She had perfectly sculpted soft brown eyebrows and bronze, smooth skin that seemed too dark close up to match her coloring, a lovely honey glow that made Tonks feel peaky and mole spotted and pasty and cross and altogether too British.
“I think I’m just going to go home,” she told Fleur after a long moment.
“But ze others?” frowned Fleur. “Zey will want to find you.”
“They can find me,” yawned Tonks, suddenly tired.
“Zen I will go too,” said Fleur decisively.
Tonks frowned. This wasn’t what she had meant. “No,” she said. “I’ll just –“
“Eet is too dangerous to apparate,” said Fleur seriously. “With injuries such as yours. On ze eenside.”
“I’ll take the floo. It’s just a short trip. And I just want more clothes. And my own bed. And it’s so filthy here I don’t want to –“
“No,” said Fleur flatly. “I will not allow zat.”
“Allow it?” said Tonks, angrily astonished. “You can’t tell me what to do!”
“I am not telling.”
“Yes you are.”
“Yes I am.”
And Tonks paused, flummoxed, until she saw the curl of the smile around Fleur’s haughty mouth, and she blew out a strand of hair from her face in exasperation.
“I will get you clothes,” said Fleur.
Tonks had a horrifying thought of Fleur actually seeing the trainwreck of her apartment. Of trying to pick up the still clean clothes from their specific spot on the floor by the foot of her bed where she put on pajamas.
“No, it’s okay.”
“You are in a…comment dites-vous?” Fleur gestured.
“A dish towel,” said Tonks sourly.
“Yes. Zat.”
Tonks groaned, feeling like a sulky child as she shuffled her feet and then looked up at the stairs leading up from the basement kitchen. She didn’t want to sit in the kitchen of the house. Technically the whole house was Order headquarters. And she wanted to lay down. But the beds the Weasleys and Harry had stayed in – even the overnight guest beds – were up three or four flights of very long stairs.
“Sit.”
“What?” Tonks turned to see Fleur having pulled out a chair from the table, facing its battered old wood at the foot of the stairs.
“Sit,” she gestured impatiently.
Tonks sat. Immediately the chair began to float, and Fleur conducted her up the stairs beside her without a word, without a mocking glance or anything else.
They stopped on the second floor, three flights up. It was where Sirius and Regulus’ childhood bedrooms had been. Now they were crammed with two or three cots a piece for visitors and leftover from the Weasleys’ stay. Tonks took a bed gratefully. These, at least, were clean. Not originally part of the house. Brought in.
“Stay,” Fleur said severely, turning on the spot. She disapparated with a loud crack that proved she was still very new at it.
Tonks had to reflect that she was being treated rather like a dog, sitting and staying and being walked about. But she was too tired and in too much pain to much care. She settled against the pillows and combed her jaw length hair with her fingers. If only it was long and pretty like Fleur’s, and as she pulled the tangles out, she realized it was growing.
“Stop that,” she told herself, going slightly pink in the dim afternoon light of the small window. It would be mortifying for Fleur to come back and for Tonks to be wearing her features.
Fleur was back quickly, and Tonks realized only when she threw a bag on the foot of the bed she had never told Fleur where she lived. She looked in the bag, embarrassed. They were obviously Fleur’s clothes.
“These are too nice,” she tried to protest. “I’m all dirty and bloody and-“
A flick of Fleur’s wand, and Tonks realized her hair smelled like strawberries and mango. Like a fruity stupid tropical drink mixed with a white wine.
“Thanks,” she said, much too sourly for how she smelled.
“Hold up your ‘ands,” Fleur instructed, bunching the shirt up, and Tonks did so, embarrassed, as Fleur leaned close to her to pull her hands patiently through the long cashmere sleeves of a sweater that doubtlessly cost more than Tonks’ rent.
The shirt settled down, slipping over newly healed skin in a way that made Tonks want to hiss at the feel of it, the friction, and yet maybe it was the breath being stolen by the inches heating between her and Fleur.
Tonks dropped her eyes, embarrassed and vaguely ashamed. She liked witches and wizards. She didn’t advertise it much, outside her earrings and her loud hair. She was not actually very experienced; Hogwarts had been…well a boyfriend. Sixth year. A girl kissed her in seventh. Mainly Hogwarts had been Charlie, laughing at her. Mainly Charlie, being confused himself.
And auror training; she had been one of the youngest there. She had slept with one person. A woman. Once. And then she had avoided her. And then she had a one night stand in the Leaky Cauldron, because she felt like she should. In her twenties. Right?
She was embarrassingly under experienced, but Fleur was so beautiful, she would have been an idiot not to notice. Tonks hated that she still felt young and awkward, though Fleur was younger than she was. But nothing about Fleur screamed awkwardness or inexperience. She was probably much, much better at all of it than Tonks. Hadn’t she heard somewhere that Fleur was part Veela? A kind of magical creature that seduced without trying. Fleur didn’t even feel it.
She didn’t even notice.
Tonks felt her cheeks heating, and she pulled her head back, turning her own chin away, feeling ungainly and plain and embarrassingly mousy. But Fleur did not let her turn her face; her fingers were cold against Tonks’ flushed cheeks, and Tonks jumped – jumped right into Fleur’s waiting lips, her parted mouth, her hesitant sapphire eyes.
“I’m sorry,” Tonks mumbled at once, as soon as they broke apart. “I didn’t mean-“
“Why are you sorry?” Fleur seemed genuinely confused. “You did not like eet?”
“No, I mean, I didn’t mean to-“ Tonks began, and then frowned. “What?”
“I wanted to kiss you. Bill ‘as been saying I need to make more friends.”
“Oh.” Friends. Perhaps kissing another beautiful girl on the mouth was a French custom. Tonks felt her face probably matched her suddenly magenta hair.
“And I like you, Neemfadohra,” and she butchered Tonks’ name so badly she had to laugh.
“It’s Tonks.”
“Yes. Very well. Tonks.”
“But…you’re so young,” Tonks said awkwardly.
“Five years isn’t so much,” Fleur said honestly.
Tonks shrugged awkwardly. “I…I mean…you don’t…”
“’ave to?” guessed Fleur shrewdly, her blue eyes flickering. “You theenk because you were wounded I must fall for you?”
“Fall?” said Tonks faintly.
“I like you,” repeated Fleur impatiently.
Tonks didn’t know where to look, she had never, never blushed so hard. “I…I like you too,” she mumbled at last.
There was a huge series of cracks! From downstairs.
“’Ze others. Zey ‘ave returned. I should go to see.”
“Okay,” said Tonks faintly, still blushing.
“Zat sweater is nice on you,” said Fleur coolly surveying her. “Suits your coloring.”
Tonks blushed harder. It was a champagne color more suited to Fleur’s bronzed skin than her own pale one. “Thanks,” she said anyway.
“I will come back,” Fleur said, appraising her face.
“Okay. I’m fine.”
Fleur smiled mischievously. “Yes,” she said triumphantly; a person being quick-witted in a second language. “You are.”

HP Femslash MiniFest August/September prompts are here!
Massive apologies, friends and followers, for our tardiness this time around. Headmistress McG was not pleased and house points have been deducted accordingly. This month we’ve cooked up three prompts we hope you’re as excited for as we are! Our trope this time around is Magical Creatures. Our seasonal prompt is Changes. Our wildcard prompt is Broomstick. Our AO3 collection is now open for submissions.
Tumblr media
As a reminder, this cycle we are partnering with @flonksfest so if you write any of these prompts for Fleur & Tonks don’t forget to tag both fests! And if you’re not already following them, you should hop on over there for some femslash good-ness!
The timeline for this fest will be:
August 9 - Mod prompts post & AO3 collection opens
September 31 - Last day to submit for this cycle
October 1 - Round up post released
One quick programming note: Upon mod reflection we will not be continuing to maintain follower prompts on AirTable. Instead, we invite our followers to give scenario prompts through our askbox instead. These will be posted directly to our Tumblr and hopefully get more views/spark inspiration for our followers a little easier than having to visit an external page. All scenario prompt guidelines still apply, minus the timelines, and you can review them here.
Please be sure to review our updated FAQs and Rules. Remember that all followers/creators under 18 CANNOT interact with or create any works rated M or E for this fest.
All works will be compiled into a master post at the end of the cycle.  We are so excited to see the brilliance you create!

FlonksFest 2019 Approaches!
Tumblr media
Hello and welcome to the second annual FlonksFest, a celebration of two of the hottest witches we know, Fleur Delacour and Nymphadora Tonks. We love Fleur, we love Tonks, and we love them together best of all!
FlonksFest is a fun, friendly, low-pressure fest to share the love for this ship, and to encourage all types of fanworks about this iconic duo.
How does it work?
FlonksFest is a simple, prompt-based fest, and it goes like this:
STEP ONE - SUBMITTING PROMPTS - 8TH TO 14TH JULY
Prompting opens on Monday 8th July and runs until Sunday 14th July 2019.
Everyone is welcome to submit prompts - one or a ton - using this google form. Prompts can be a scenario, a song, a line of poetry, a picture - anything you like. Different creators are inspired by different sorts of prompts, so variety is welcome!
Submitting a prompt does not oblige you to create anything (although that is very much encouraged), so if you have an amazing idea for a Flonks fanwork but no idea how to produce it yourself, this is your moment!
STEP TWO - CLAIMING PROMPTS - 15th JULY ONWARDS
Claiming opens on Monday 15th July 2019, and is open until the end of the fest. You may only claim one prompt at a time, but once you’ve completed and posted a prompt you are welcome to come back and claim another.
Prompts are not compulsory! If you have your own idea then feel free to run with that. You do not have to have submitted any prompts to make a claim.
STEP THREE - POSTING - THROUGHOUT AUGUST
Once your work is ready to go, you can post it any time during August 2019. All works should be posted to AO3 and/or Tumblr. If you prefer to use another social media site, email the mods a link to your submission ([email protected]) and we’ll post the link to Tumblr.
When posting to AO3, please add your works to the FlonksFest collection.
When posting to Tumblr, please tag you post #FlonksFest and @flonksfest us for good measure (just on the off-chance that tags don’t work perfectly, y’know) so we can see and reblog everything. You can do this whether you are hosting your work directly on Tumblr or linking to AO3.
There’s no set template for posting - live free! - but please remember to rate and tag appropriately.
STEP FOUR - PROFIT?
The mods will post a masterlist and we’ll all bask in the warm glow of victory, proud of our roles in bringing more Flonks content into the world. Ahhh.
What can I make?
We welcome all kinds of fanworks. Fic, art, fanmixes, vids, and anything else you can think of. You want to perform an interpretative dance demonstrating your thoughts on how Fleur feels about Tonks’ hair and upload it to YouTube? We are here for that. Seriously, ANYTHING GOES!
There is no minimum word count or any particular requirement for other works.
The only rule is that all works must focus on Flonks. Other background pairings are welcome, so long as Fleur and Tonks are centre stage.
I have another question/I want to speak to the manager!
Your friendly neighbourhood mods are nachodiablo and @shaggydogstail. You can send an ask to @flonksfest or you can contact the mod email account, [email protected].

FlonksFest 2019 - POSTING!
Tumblr media
August is here, so you can now start posting FlonksFest submissions! If you haven’t already, you can claim a prompt at any time - and if you’re feeling super industrious, you can claim second and subsequent prompts once you’ve posted your first. And you can still post to the fest without claiming a prompt!
Posting to FlonksFest is a pretty relaxed affair. You can host your work on AO3, Tumblr, or any other platform as long as you link to it from Tumblr. There’s no set posting times or format to stick to, just go like this:
1. All works posted to AO3 can be added to FlonksFest collection. Just follow the link and hit “post to collection” before posting as normal.
2. When posting to, or linking from Tumblr, please use #FlonksFest and @flonksfest to make sure we see everything. We want to reblog you and share the hype!
3. If you’ve used a prompt, please mention it in your notes somewhere.
4. Standard posting etiquette applies - remember to include appropriate ratings and warnings.
Remember, all types of fanworks are welcome - fic, art, vids, mood boards, vegetable-based stop motion - if you can make it, we want to see it here.
The @hpfemslash-minifest is running their seasonal prompts as well - if you create a Flonks piece that fits one of their prompts, feel free to tag both communities.
That’s it! Easy as pie, right? Any questions, though, please just ask, we’re always here to help. We’ve also got a dedicated Flonks Fest channel in the HP WLW Discord if you’d like to chat.
