Some new additions to the flute collection that were added over the weekend. . We have a Drone in the key of A made by master flute maker Dana Ross of Falcon Flutes. Beautiful to look at and exquisite to play and hear. . Second we have a really cool design by David Garrett in the key of E. I don't know what to call it other than "the feather flute". This is my first flute made by him and I just had to have it cause it was such a cool look. Sounds good too :) . Both of these were acquired at The Indian Store in Cherokee North Carolina - presided over by good friends Keith and Patty Derreberry. Words can’t do justice to the love I have for Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. A work I’ve performed a few times, it’s always given me new opportunities to grow and learn, and fall in love with music time and time again. My favorite symphonic work in classical symphony music literature, I find the music to be exciting, beautiful and strong. The first time I performed this symphony was with the Youth Orchestra of San Antonio, on stage at the Majestic Theater. With a breathtaking setting, the performance has always stood out as a turning point in my love of orchestral playing. I then went on to perform along side members the Mexico City Youth Orchestra and YOSA, with @felipetristan, in a side by side concert held in San Antonio. The musical language of Beethoven transcended cultural and even linguistic barriers, allowing for a performance that was thrilling and rewarding in so many ways. The third time I performed this work was with YOSA and members of the San Antonio Symphony in yet another side by side concert. Tal Perkes was the principle flute at the time, and I was assigned to sit next to him for the concert. We only performed the second movement, but Tal’s complete artistry as a musician was never lost, and I left the concert touched by his kind words and encouragement. Flute Tricks

- When you have a sticky pad but can’t find any powder paper, you can use corn starch and waxed paper. Does the same thing.

- If you have a loose foot joint (or head joint) stick a small piece of paper between the body and the joint, it’ll fill the gap.

- Do you find that your posture tends to lean towards the ground too much? Put a roll of tape on the end of your flute. If it falls, you’re leaning too much.

- Ever play with your ‘knuckles’ on your right hand rather than the tips of your fingers? Put some tape around the end of the key so your fingers have to stay centered.

- Left hand, first finger getting sore on the side? Find a rubber pencil grip and cut it in half. Place it against the flute where your finger rests.

- Does your chin turn black after you play? Sometimes this is caused by a chemical reaction between the silver and foundation. Don’t wear foundation/put it on your chin.

- Can't find any flute plugs? Try taking the eraser from a mechanical pencil. You may have to cut it a bit so it isn't so long but they tend to fit in most Yamaha flutes. If you have any more tricks, message me!

This is one of my favorite Native American Style Flutes from my collection. I acquired it in the summer of 2017. It is in the Key of B. It is made of African Mahogany and Alaskan Yellow Cedar. It was created by master craftsman flutemaker Dana Ross. I got it in Cherokee North Carolina at The Indian Store owned and operated by Keith and Patty Derreberry.
