Jiang Cheng didn’t keep Chenqing out of sentiment. He tells himself that, anyway.

He keeps it hidden. Tucked away. Never used. He doesn’t even look at it unless he has to. But he doesn’t get rid of it either. And that’s what makes him sick.

Because it would be easy to destroy. Burn it. Bury it. Pretend it never existed. Like everyone else did. Like Wei Wuxian did to her.

But Jiang Cheng can’t. And he doesn’t know what’s worse — the fact that he still has it, or the fact that he still remembers how it sounds.

Sometimes, when he’s tired or drunk or too close to breaking, he hears it in his head — the low wail of Chenqing — and he feels like a fool. Like a dog still sitting at the door of a house that doesn’t exist anymore.

He would rather be called cruel. He would rather be hated. But not this. Not this pathetic, rotten tenderness.

So he hides it. Like a wound. Like a weakness. Like a secret that would ruin him if anyone ever knew.

Also Percy explaining that this is why he has to follow her on things because she is the cat and curiosity is always ready to kill her. Him gesturing erratically while Grover is setting up his presentation because "Sometimes I wanna follow Grover, Annabeth! But I can't because you keep arguing your way into danger! So I have to follow you down the dark spooky tunnel instead of hanging out with my best friend in the land of rainbows and sunshine"

kaeya doodle i did almost a year ago that i've decided to color just now

need to get my flute serviced contemplating if I should take it to a local place or the repair shop an hour away where I take my clarinet. local is obviously much more convenient but the place an hour away is a bit better quality. like I got my pads redone at the local place and they still leaked a little. but my flute is just a Yamaha student model so do I really need to take it to the best repair shop but I want it in good condition. sigh. the hour away place is also much faster.

re: this follow-up poll on my dopey little post about lan xichen and all his sad flute solos, i'm so mad that i can't draw to save my life because the image of post-canon lan xichen in the gusu lan banquet extra going full harry du bois on karaoke night singing 'the smallest church in saint-saëns' (where you fail your drama check and it's the limbic system who has the wheel) just sprang fully formed into my head, and i really wish i could make this vision a reality.
