Helluva Boss Classification AU: Itty Bitty Imps as Caregivers/Littles PT 2: More detailed Character notes
Stolas: 🦉
Classification:
50% Guardian
50% Caregiver
Tumblr media
-Stolas was fairly confident in his abilities as a caregiver…that is until Blitzø proved it to be rather difficult. Not that it’s a bad thing, but Blitzø really knows how to push his limits and question everything he’s doing. Blitzø keeps Stolas on his toes.
Singing!
-Stolas loves singing for the littles! It's probably his favorite thing to do.
So much so that the littles will ask Stolas to sing them to sleep every time (which sometimes makes Asmodeus Jealous)
Playing:
-Stolas loves playing with Blitzø, he always comes up with the most unique scenarios. He loves the way a little’s mind works, it’s intriguing even if it makes no sense sometimes.
-He also very much loves coloring with the littles, complimenting their color choices and talking about various things.
Insecurities: -Stolas isn't always confident he's doing what is best for Blitzø, hes worried he doesn't do enough or helps him enough. (Even though that's nonsense and Little!Blitzø is extremely happy and healthy around the bird.)
-When Blitzø is experiencing a panic attack or struggling with flashbacks, Stolas can only guess what the right thing to say is.
Nicknames.
Nicknames for Blitzø: Blitzy, Darling, baby, Little Gremlin, Star, little spark, Starlight/Starshine, firecracker, little Dragon, Tiny might, Little horse, and Spirit.
Nicknames for Fizzarolli: Sweetheart/Sweetie are his favorites to call Fizz for his kind nature, but he’ll also use: Little Heart, Heartling, little one, or simply Fizz/Fizzy
-Strict:
-Stolas loves Spoiling Blitzø to no end, providing him toys, treats, and constant praise and affection. But hes also extremely strict with the young one when he needs to be.
Blitzø ❤️ Classification: Legally he’s classified a neutral due to cheating on the test, so we don’t know his exact results. But he does regress, therefore he must be a little...right?
Tumblr media
Toys!
-Blitzø collects horse plushies, figurines, and basically anything else he can find, if it has a horse, he wants it!
-Blitzø also loves Pirates and Dinosaurs! Little things!:
-Blitzø doesn't really have a nickname for Stolas, he just calls him Stolas. Favorite food: Dino nuggets, Mac and cheese with hot sauce Favorite drink: Chocolate milk with hot sauce...yes, hot sauce. Blitzø loves hot sause! -Blitzø has an overactive imagination that often gets him into trouble.
-Blitzø uses Pacifiers, but will often chew them up instead.
-Blitzø still needs diapers and feels insecure about it. He hardly ever talks about it out of headspace, and needs lots of reassurance and praise when being changed.
-Blitzø has issues accepting his regression for what it is, but he knows how much it helps, how much he needs it.
-Little!Blitzø thinks Stolas is a dinosaur since he’s tall and is covered in feathers.
-BlItzø has unique names and personalities for all his toys, and will explain their entire backstory in detail; Except of course his yellow horse plushie Stolas gave him when he hurt his leg. It’s his absolute favorite toy, and he’ll pretty much carry it around any/everywhere. He will change the horse’s name, gender, and story depending on his mood. Playing with the names sometimes helps Blitzø express or deal with his own emotions when it’s hard to.
Affection:
-Blitzø can’t help but purr if he’s being petted or if Stolas is cuddling with him. He loves affection, even if he doesn’t always act like it.
-Blitzø sometimes rejects Stolas when he asks for a hug, which Stolas is completely fine with- but other times Blitzø will climb on the bird to demand attention without so much as a warning.
-Blitzø likes being held, but only when Stolas asks for permission first. If he doesn’t warn or ask Blitzø first, he gets upset and starts hissing and biting, even if Stolas is only trying to protect the little from something dangerous.
Blitzø the brat:
-Blitzø is a bit of a brat, but that doesn’t change how Stolas feels about him, in fact he finds Blitzø’s antics adorable and entertaining, even if he has to be the one to keep Blitzø in line.
-Blitzø hates rules, but he needs them…good thing Stolas can handle his constant ‘No’s.’
-Blitzø doesn’t always listen to Stolas, he wants to try things and do stuff his own way.
-When Stolas doesn’t do what Blitzø wants, he’ll cry, bite, scream, or throw a tantrum. As littles do.
-Biting: When Blitzø gets upset (or he’s simply bored) he’ll bite people as a way to express himself.
-Stolas is trying to teach Blitzø to talk through his feelings, but biting or hissing is a lot easier for him.
-Stolas bought Blitzø some sensory chew toys, and the Imp loves them a lot.
Whenever he needs to bite something, or feels fidgety, Stolas has something for him. (Even if he’s not in headspace)
Behaviors/Mental health
-Blitzø can’t sit still
-Blitzø hyper fixates on games, toys, movies, and shows.
-Blitzø has almost no concept of time. Stolas wants Blitzø to follow a strict schedule, but in order to do this, he has to be very careful because Blitzø struggles with the concept of time and won’t be ready when Stolas says it’s nap time or if it’s time to eat. And, if he constantly reminds Blitzø what time it is, he gets annoyed or overwhelmed.
So, Stolas has to be very careful when he approaches this. He learned it’s best to compromise with Blitzø then to be overly strict, for example: if it’s naptime but Blitzø is coloring, he lets Blitzø finish his current picture beforehand so he doesn’t loose interest in what he’s doing, and he knows it’s time for a nap naturally.
-Rejection sensitivity: when Stolas gets annoyed with Blitzø or if Blitzø gets in trouble and feels like he disappointed him, or even if he thinks too much about his past, Blitzø will feel the need to shut down or cry, feeling like no one loves him anymore. To help with this, Stolas has learned that Blitzø needs a lot of reassurance, and he can’t be left alone if he’s feeling this way. Stolas makes sure to talk to Blitzø to make sure he knows Stolas still loves him no matter what.
-Blitzø is worried Stolas might leave him like everyone else has.
-Blitzø becomes overwhelmed very easily, overstimulated, stressed out, or even overcome by negative emotions. This will either lead him to asking for some alone time, or ask for Stolas to pet him depending on his specific needs.
-Anxiety- -In headspace, Blitzø will sometimes deal with flashbacks which causes him severe anxiety and emotional distress. He’s not exactly sure why he usually gets them when little, but he hates it.
-Nightmares, Blitzø is prone to nightmares. This is partially the reason Stolas prefers to let Blitzø sleep in bed with him over his crib. If Blitzø is upset in the middle of the night, he wants to be there for him right away.
Note: Tumblr is so mean! I wrote this out so many times and it never saved!! Ugh-
but finally! Here it is! Lol Ty for your patience ❤️

"I'm Blitz, the 'o' is silent."
(Blitz⌀ headcanons I feel are valid)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blitz sleeps with a stuffed Spirit because that’s his favorite horse movie
Growing up in the circus, he never needed to really learn how to read or write so Blitz didn’t really know how to read or write properly until he was an adult, I think just before the show picks up.
His father beat him frequently when he was young and very rarely gave him praise for anything, as a result he thought that was how he was supposed to be treated and had a string of abusive partners in his younger years.
Tumblr media
He’s not responsible for the accident that is believed to be the cause of his falling out with Fizz, he was blamed for it so much after the fact that he has conditioned himself to feel guilty about it.
Blitz makes Loona horse shaped pancakes every saturday morning and has since he adopted her
After the adoption was finalized, Blitz’s sinstagram page was almost entirely pictures of Loona doing the most mundane things.
He’s obsessed with M&M’s relationship because he was the one who set them up together when Millie was hired on and he can’t help but marvel at how they’ve grown as a couple.
In the episode “Truth Seekers”, Blitz was more concerned about the safety of his team than himself, so much so that he tried to convince the agents to keep him there and let Moxxie go while he was unconscious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite denying it, he loves cuddling with Stolas and he sleeps the best when they’re together.
He’s tried to kill Stella twice after learning about some of the abuse she put her husband through.
While he offered Striker a job, he would’ve fired him soon after seeing how miserable having him around made Moxxie
Like Loona and Stolas, Blitz has a human form but refuses to use it because he doesn’t like that his scars translate into his human form and he hasn’t found a way to hide them
Tumblr media
His favorite food is pizza
He often calls I.M.P. a family owned and operated business
He occasionally falls asleep in the fetal position with the end of his tail in his mouth. His mother took countless pictures of him and his sister in that same position as babies.

Garreth Weasley x Inger Eve Nilsdott
Tumblr media
Inger and Garreth evolved from best friends to lovers over the course of several years. They hit it off almost instantly with their shared love for potions, extroverted energy, and search for excitement. They quickly found that if Garreth could come up with the ideas, Inger could find a way to make them happen. This led to the pair getting in quite a bit of trouble over the years, whether that was by handing out untested potions to kids in Hogsmeade or sneaking out to the most dangerous of places to find the right ingredients.
What started as playful banter and working on potions together after school slowly turned into a deep and close friendship. Garreth helped Inger recognize the value of more abstract ideas, and Inger kept Garreth grounded and focused on their real world application. They were both drawn to each other's curiosity, logical thinking, and adventurous spirit.
Their transition from friends to lovers was fairly smooth, as they both recognized it around the same time. Neither of them were really surprised when Inger kissed Garreth on the cheek after he finally perfected his Fizzing-Whizbeer near the end of sixth year. Their first official date was to the Three-Broomsticks, where they bought dinner and then went to sit on some benches in the square, talking and laughing and feeding half their food to the birds. It was at this point that their status as boyfriend and girlfriend became official.
During seventh year Garreth asked Inger to the Yule Ball, a date that Garreth in particular would remember as the day he decided Inger was the girl he wanted to marry. He proposed a few months after graduation and they were married the next summer.
Garreth ultimately found work as a Potions Master for the Ministry of Magic, and Inger got a job as an Auror. After their first child was born, Inger retired to devote more time to being a mother. The couple had five sons: Roy Sweyn Weasley, Fritz Lee Weasley, Tommy Feliz Weasley, Edmund (Ed) Oscar Weasley, and Lincoln Oliver Weasley. (More information about Inger and Garreth's kids can be found here!!)
Later in life, after their children were grown, Inger and Garreth traveled the world, exploring and testing new potions and solving cases that baffled even the most talented of Healers. They also investigated reports of ancient magic, though no evidence was ever discovered.

The Wind Carries Me
Tumblr media
Yupp I wrote another one-shot. With sketches this time!
The Wind Carries MeA powerful windstorm steals Snufkin's hat, and Moomintroll is determined to get it back for him. Snufmin but you gotta squint a little. Rating: G Warnings: None Word count: 8665
Moomintroll glanced over at Snufkin for help, but found him unusually subdued. At times like these, when everyone else was nervous and afraid, Snufkin would play them a song on his mouth-organ, or tell a story from his travels. But the mouth-organ had yet to make an appearance. Snufkin had barely spoken a word since they came inside, and sat with his blanket tight around him, staring ahead with a pensive brow. The glow of the candle reflected soft in his midnight eyes.
Leaning in, Moomintroll kept his voice to a low whisper. “Alright, Snuf?”
He didn’t move, except to give the smallest of nods. Fidgeting with discomfort, Moomintroll tried again.
“We might find your hat when the storm breaks. I bet it’s caught on the lilac bush. It kind of looked like it might fly in that direction.”
“No, it’s gone,” Snufkin sighed, letting the blanket drop off his shoulders. “It’s alright. It was so full of holes I could barely use it anymore. Time for a new one, I think.”
“That’s the spirit,” Moomintroll said encouragingly. Despite his statement, Snufkin didn’t appear at all cheered. It was odd to see him with his head bare, Moomintroll thought. Funny how much one got used to seeing someone a certain way. Not a day went by that his friend didn’t have that tattered hat with the caved-in point pulled down over his ears. It was as synonymous with Snufkin as music and dry humor. Moomintroll hardly recognized him without it. They were a pair, Snufkin and his hat.
Then Snufkin scooted further into the pool of light. “Do you know about the North Wind and the Sun?”

moomins is so funny, it’s like “here is our friend the muskrat who eats at our dining table” and then “these voles are really annoying pests we must drive them out of our garden” and then “let’s have a chat with these large grasshoppers” and “here’s a picture of some moomins sleeping under some tall flowers” but then “can red ants even talk?” and “what a small fisherman”
relative size loses all meaning in moominvalley

National Aperitif Day
National Aperitif Day is celebrated annually on the third Thursday in May. This year, it takes place on May 18. The day appreciates aperitifs — drinks taken before meals, such as fizz, dry vermouth, and white wine.
Although aperitifs originated in France, they are consumed by people all over the globe. They are flavorful and serve as the standout ingredient in many cocktail recipes.
History of National Aperitif Day
An aperitif is a refreshing alcoholic drink served before a meal to stimulate the appetite. It is a liquid appetizer. Aperitifs are usually served to guests during a dinner party, with or without food. Of course, there’s no rule that you can’t unwind with aperitif after a long day. From Campari and Aperol to cocktails like the martini, aperitifs are available in many brands and forms. The spirit offers a delightful and flavorful drinking experience.
The word ‘aperitif’ is French. However, in Italian, it is known as ‘aperitivo.’ Both words have their roots in the Latin word ‘aperire,’ meaning ‘to open, or uncover.’ These drinks were designed to heighten the appetite and prepare the palate for food. Most people serve aperitifs with complex or fatty meals. The word ‘aperitif’ may be used to describe a class of alcoholic beverages and cocktails in which they’re found. These cocktails and alcoholic drinks usually contain herbs or other ingredients that whet the drinker’s appetite.
Aperitifs are very common in Europe, especially in France and Italy. They’re often served as parlor drinks before and after dinner for a heightened dining experience. Instead of an aperitif, some prefer to drink a digestif — a drink that aids in digestion —  at the end of their meal. Similar to the American happy hour, bars in Europe serve aperitifs with light snacks for their patrons to enjoy.
National Aperitif Day timeline
5th Century The Earliest Mention of Aperitifs
Diadochos of Photiki mentions aperitifs in his works.
18th Century Italy Becomes the Aperitif Center
Entrepreneurs in Turin, Italy, begin producing large quantities of aperitifs.
1860 The Rise of the Campari Group
Gaspare Campari creates the iconic aperitif brand: Campari.
1900s Aperitifs Arrive in the U.S.
The aperitif travels to the U.S. from Europe.
National Aperitif Day FAQs
What is an example of an aperitif?
Classic aperitifs include dry vermouth, white wine, fizz, and bitter drinks like Campari.
What is the most popular aperitif?
The most famous one-name aperitif is Campari. Its recipe has been a secret since 1860, when its creator, Gaspare Campari, first began bottling his product.
How is an aperitif served?
It’s typically paired with a slice of fruit — for looks and a pre-dining nibble.
National Aperitif Day Activities
Host a dinner party
Make your own cocktails
Visit a bar
Celebrate National Aperitif Day by hosting a dinner party. However, this cannot be just any other party. Remember to begin the meal with aperitifs and end it in style with another variety of aperitifs or digestifs.
Show off your bartending skills on National Aperitif Day. Whip up your favorite aperitif-based cocktails or experiment with new recipes and call your friends over for a little taste test — how fun does that sound?
Does your favorite bar serve the best aperitif cocktails? Celebrate National Aperitif Day with your favorite aperitif cocktails at your favorite bar. Invite your friends to join the fun too!
5 Interesting Facts About Aperitifs
The Queen has a favorite aperitif
There’s a reason why aperitifs are bitter
Campari got its red color from beetles
Digestifs are the opposite of aperitifs
James Bond loved aperitifs
The Queen’s favorite aperitif is a gin and Dubonnet garnished with lemon.
Bitter drinks help us become more alert and ready for the meal we’re about to consume.
When it was first produced, Campari got its bright red color from cochineal beetles.
Unlike aperitifs, digestifs are served after food to aid your digestion.
The Negroni cocktail — Bond’s favorite — is traditionally made using gin, Campari, vermouth, and orange peel.
Why We Love National Aperitif Day
It appreciates aperitifs
It’s a day to relax
It encourages experimentation
We love National Aperitif Day because it appreciates delicious and culturally-rich aperitifs! It recognizes that aperitifs don’t just taste great but also get our appetites ready for a flavorful meal.
National Aperitif Day is celebrated by drinking aperitifs and aperitif-based cocktails. It is a holiday to get together with friends, visit your favorite bar, and let your hair down.
National Aperitif Day urges us to be creative and daring in our culinary experiments. So, throw in a dash of this and that to create the cocktail you’ve been dying to try.

Beyond Grape Juice: Exploring Alcohol-Free Wine Options
Regarding alcohol-free beverages, grape juice has long been a go-to option for those seeking an alternative to alcoholic drinks. However, the world of alcohol-free beverages has expanded, offering various alcohol-free wine options beyond traditional grape juice. In this blog post, we will explore the exciting world of alcohol-free wine and the diverse options available to cater to different tastes and preferences.
A Plethora of Grape Varieties
Like traditional wines, alcohol-free wines are crafted from a wide range of grape varieties, each offering unique flavours and characteristics. Whether you're a fan of Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, or Sauvignon Blanc, you can find alcohol-free versions of these beloved grape varietals. These wines are skillfully made to capture the essence of the grapes, providing an authentic wine experience without the alcohol content.
Tumblr media
Blends and Innovations
In addition to single varietals, alcohol-free wine options also include blends and innovative creations. Winemakers experiment with blending different grape varieties to create unique flavour profiles that offer complexity and depth. These blends can be crafted to mimic traditional wines' style or offer a new and exciting taste experience.
Furthermore, innovative alcohol free wine options incorporate non-traditional ingredients and techniques. For example, some winemakers experiment with botanicals, infusing the wine with herbs, spices, or floral elements to add a distinctive twist to the flavour profile. These innovative creations push the boundaries of alcohol-free wine, offering a new realm of possibilities for adventurous wine enthusiasts.
Sparkling Delights
Sparkling wines have an inherent charm and enthusiasm that brings celebration to any occasion. Alcohol-free sparkling wines capture the spirit of their alcoholic counterparts, offering a bubbly and refreshing experience. From non-alcoholic Champagne-style sparkling wines to lively Prosecco alternatives, you can enjoy the fizz and elegance of sparkling wines without the alcohol content.
Rosés and Whites
Alcohol-free wine options also extend to rosés and white wines, providing a spectrum of flavours and styles. Crisp and zesty white wines, such as Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling, offer a refreshing and citrusy experience, perfect for warm weather or as an aperitif. Rosés, with their delicate hues and vibrant fruit flavours, add a touch of romance to any occasion.
Food Pairing Possibilities
Alcohol-free wines are not just beverages to be enjoyed on their own; they also pair beautifully with various dishes. From seafood and poultry to vegetarian options and desserts, alcohol-free wines can complement and enhance the flavours of your favourite foods. Whether you prefer a light and citrusy white wine with a summer salad or a rich and velvety red wine with a hearty pasta dish, the world of alcohol free wine offers endless possibilities for culinary exploration.
Conclusion
While grape juice has its place in the non-alcoholic beverage realm, exploring alcohol-free wine options opens up a world of flavours, variety, and sophistication. Alcohol-free wines cater to different tastes and occasions, from traditional grape varietals to blends, sparkling wines, and innovative creations. So, venture beyond grape juice and embrace the diverse and exciting world of alcohol-free wines, discovering new flavours and enjoying the pleasures of wine without the alcohol content.

The day started as usual for chop chop. He simply got out of his casket that he regularly slept in, brushed his bones, shined his armor and sword, and prepared for the day. as he gathered his sword, Spyro called him over. You see, since eon is a spirit due to the core of light's explosion. He was appointed leader of the skylander due to his kind, courageous, brave-hearted nature but do, not worry. He still kicks butt with other Skylanders or solo "chop chop, there's something I need to speak to you about." Spyro said. Chip chop then looks at him, curious about what he has to say. "What is it, dear comrade?" he asks. Spyro's face then shifted to a nervous one." well…uhh…don't freak out but we have werewolf Skylanders?" Spyro said, hoping chop chop's temper wouldn't shoot up like a kite. But unfortunately he is not in luck. "What do you mean Spyro!? Do you mean we have hazards as protectors now!?" chop chop asked angrily. You see chop chop was always not one to accept a skylander with a dark past or one with a split personality, with Spyro being the only exception. " yeah, a skylander got bit by a werewolf…." Spyro trailed off, trying not to say who since Spyro was also friends with that specific skylander.
. "TELL ME WHO GOT BITTEN OR SO HELP ME I WI-"chop chop got interrupted by Spyro. "IT'S FOOD FIGHT!!!!!" a moment of silence passed between the two "....WE HAVE TO SlAY HIM!!!" chop chop shouted so loud to the point where surrounding Skylanders could hear. Every skylander then looks at him with concerned expressions, one even dropping their donuts that were in their hands which was trigger happy. "AHHHHHHHH!!!!!! ZOMBIES!!!!!" he shouted, having no idea what was happening as he prepared to run to the academy's bunker. Spyro then quickly flies over to trigger happy and grabs his shoulders. "TRIGG, THERE ARE NO ZOMBIES!!!!!!" Spyro said, shaking him. Trigger happy then calms down for a bit. "but there are werewolves." trigger happy then looks at him as his right eye twitches. "what!? What!? What!!!!!? Did you just say WEREWOLVES!!!!!!!?" he says. After a few seconds, he just faints, and gill grunt catches him. "please tell me your joking, Spyro…" gill grunt asks. "nope, there's now a werewolf, skylander." Spyro says. "oh well, that's just great! Now we have more than wolfgang to deal with!" gill grunt says sarcastically. "I'M GOING TO KiLL HIM!!!!" chop chop threatens as he slashes a tree leaving a mark. "N-NO!!! No! We're not killing nobody! The whole reason I pulled you aside was because you were trained to deal with them chop chop! I don't want no plant blood on your sword!" Spyro explains. "wait, plant blood!? Who's the werewolf Spyro!?" gill grunt asks nervously he already had an idea of who it was he just didn't want it to be true. Spyro felt stressed. He was terrified for food fight's safety. "it's food fight! Just please don't hurt him!" Spyro admits. Gill grunt, then backs up. "I don't care what anybody says. He has to go! One way or another!" chop chop says. With that, chop chop leaves to go search for flameslinger, fright rider, short cut,and sprocket. The other Skylanders trained to deal with such a threat other than snap shot, who he doesn't trust due to him being friends with food fight. Spyro then slapped his claw against the tree, and not to anyone's surprise, it hurt him. "ow! Dang it! Now his life is in danger!" Spyro snarled as he looked down, defeated and convicted that this was his fault. Gill grunt, then puts his webbed hands on Spyro's shoulder. "Spyro, it's not your fault. You were only trying to help. No one could have known how he would have reacted. He said, comforting him. Cynder then walked over and joined in. "yeah. We all know the way chop chop reacts to things are unpredictable. Heck, he got happy over a dozen socks for his birthday one time!" she joked, which surprised gill grunt, spyro, and pop fizz since she's usually is the dead-serious one in the group if she jokes about something most of the time it's dark humor." you guys really believe that?" spyro asks. "hundred percent buddy!" pop fizz says. Spyro then stood up. "okay then skylanders we have a mission to do which is…save food fight!" spyro said pointing to the portals. The rest of the Skylanders then do their battle cries and runs over to the portal teleporting to wood barrow. To be continued.

What a July: I’ve felt terrible all month. The kind of terrible that is quiet and slow but heavy and super alarming. When you blink to find you’ve spent all  day in bed; and then it’s been a couple days. And you’re like oh man, I might really be in trouble.
Luckily though there have also been a few walks. Long walks. One down to the lake and others to the grocery. But there’s this implication summer weather brings, one that implies you should be full of lightness and sultry feelings perhaps, and I’ve been having none of that. What’s the saddest movie that takes place in June? July and August? I’ve hit the wall emotionally and so decided to take up counselling. In my first session I mentioned over and over, my seeming inability to work. Panic used to persuade me, but now there is no panic. Everything just passes. A feeling has come, a feeling of being far from home with no way back, meanwhile I’m living where I’ve always lived, being where I’ve always been — maybe that is the problem. Sometimes one just needs to get the fuck out of town!!!
Then of course as soon as I’ve written all that, I feel suddenly full of good spirits. I’m a mix of good and batty. Best part of summer? A big box of mangoes for $6.99. Plus with a lower course load I’ve had more time to read. I finished Stoner by John Williams and am nearly done with Cassandra at the Wedding by Dorothy Baker, both of which are NYRB classics, nice and sturdy but accessible when it comes to the language. I got upset reading Cassandra at the Wedding because I so wanted the storyline to go one way, only for it to nosedive in another. Such is life. Such a deep, rhythmic and sensual book, though. Also: boy, maybe the simple thing is that I am dumb, but I tried getting into Persuasion by Jane Austen and I am just not there yet. Not at all. So I’ve put it aside and will return when I’ve gained my strength (in terms of vocabulary and my ability to follow a sentence through multiple commas).
This post title comes from a novel by Italo Calvino, The Baron In The Trees. Here’s the summary:
Cosimo di Rondó, a young Italian nobleman of the eighteenth century, rebels against his parents by climbing into the trees and remaining there for the rest of his life. He adapts efficiently to an existence in the forest canopy—he hunts, sows crops, plays games with earth-bound friends, fights forest fires, solves engineering problems, and even manages to have love affairs. From his perch in the trees, Cosimo sees the Age of Enlightenment pass by and a new century dawn.
I’ve never read it; I stumbled upon it by going through my new favourite column, Eat Your Words by Valerie Stivers. It’s AMAZING. Stivers is AMAZING. She goes through books and recreates the dishes mentioned, and when it comes to Baron, we get recipes for Sour Cherry Meringue Pie, Tree-Nut Tart, White Chocolate Peach Tart and Frozen Grapefruit Chiffon Pie with Gingersnap Crust. What a way to inhabit a book before you’ve been there (if you’re like me and have read hardly any of the books she references).
I love food, pictures and descriptions. I recently followed the Redwall Feasts Bot on Twitter for lovely sentences like “I'd like a beaker of raspberry fizz and a big pastie, a mushroom and carrot one; after that I think I'd go for a piece of hot apple and pear crumble, with sweet custard poured all over it.” Side note: summer heirloom tomatoes are the best tomatoes in the world. Tomato sandwiches get me hot and emotional. Crusty bread, heaps of mayo, a bright layer of tomatoes, and salt and pepper, tons of both. Christ. Another favourite is toast with butter, salt and radishes. I could eat this all the time. I’m going to eat it as soon as I wake up tomorrow!
My favourite “hauls” are books and groceries. Yesterday I bought dried cranberries, bbq corn nuts, halloumi, multigrain bread, parsley, mango/pineapple candy rings and a purple sweet potato.
It’s nearly midnight. I have a lot of work to do before an internship meeting in the morning. I fucking hate meetings; oh jeeze stop wasting my time. Seeing as how I just can’t work, this will be a mighty task — I hope I can achieve it. I’ve got apple cinnamon tea + a stick of cinnamon in my thermos and Interview with the Vampire on the television.
Just reminding myself the meeting will be over with by noon tomorrow and I’ll get to eat my radish toast and later, at night, go see Nope and bring my candy rings and have some salty, buttery popcorn.
There is not much more I can do but give myself over, and all the way over. Once I get to the point where I’m scared I should keep going.

Cognac - The Next Undiscovered Gem in Spirits?
Tumblr media
In the vibrant world of spirits, where gin fizzes with botanicals, mezcal dances with smoke, and whisky whispers tales of oak, Cognac often stands apart. Cloaked in an aura of exclusivity and tradition, it's considered by many to be the king of brandies, a luxury reserved for celebratory sips and mahogany-lined gentlemen's clubs. But is Cognac truly an antiquated relic, or is it a hidden gem waiting to be rediscovered?
For centuries, Cognac has been synonymous with sophistication. Nestled in France's Charente region, its production is bound by strict regulations – from the unique grape varieties (Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche, and Colombard) to the double distillation process in Charentais alembics and the mandatory aging in Limousin oak barrels. This meticulousness results in a spirit of unparalleled complexity, a symphony of flavors echoing with sun-drenched grapes, toasted oak, and subtle hints of spice and fruit.
Tumblr media
Yet, despite its undeniable quality, Cognac faces a modern-day dilemma. Its image, heavily influenced by heritage and luxury, can seem intimidating to younger generations. The intricate terminology – eaux-de-vie, crus, vintages – may feel like a coded language, and the traditional presentation in snifters and crystal decanters reinforces an air of formality. This, coupled with the perception of Cognac as solely an expensive after-dinner drink, has led to a decline in consumption, particularly among millennials and Gen Z.
But here's the rub: Cognac deserves a fresh look. Beneath its elegant veneer lies a spirit bursting with versatility and vibrancy. Today's Cognac producers are reimagining the experience, shattering old stereotypes and crafting expressions that resonate with contemporary palates.
Tumblr media
A Spectrum of Flavors: Gone are the days of a single, monolithic Cognac. The six crus (Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Fins Bois, Bons Bois, Bois Ordinaires, and Borderies) each offer distinct flavor profiles, ranging from the floral delicacy of Grande Champagne to the earthy robustness of Borderies. This diversity opens up a world of exploration, allowing you to tailor your Cognac experience to your personal preferences.
Creative Cocktails: Cognac isn't just for sipping neat. Its complex layers translate beautifully into cocktails, where its warmth and depth mingle with other ingredients to create innovative concoctions. From the classic Sidecar with its citrusy punch to the Cognac Old Fashioned with its smoky twist, bartenders are pushing boundaries and showcasing the spirit's adaptability.
Tumblr media
Food Pairings: Beyond the dessert course, Cognac is a culinary chameleon. Its rich character complements savory dishes like foie gras and roast duck, while its fruitiness enhances grilled seafood and cheese plates. Experimenting with unexpected pairings can reveal a whole new dimension to your meal.
Beyond the Snobbery: Accessibility is key to unlocking Cognac's potential. Younger producers are offering smaller-batch bottlings at approachable price points, making it easier for newcomers to dip their toes into the world of Cognac. Additionally, the rise of craft cocktail bars and educational tastings is demystifying the spirit, stripping away the elitist baggage and encouraging casual exploration.
So, is Cognac the next undiscovered gem in spirits? Perhaps not entirely. But it stands poised for a renaissance, a return to its former glory while shedding its stuffy image. With its rich history, diverse flavors, and newfound versatility, Cognac offers something for every palate and every occasion. It's time to shake off the dust, raise a glass, and rediscover the magic of this truly exceptional spirit.

Crafted with care, the soda has evolved over the years while maintaining the essence of its rich history. It's not just a drink; it's a nostalgic journey through the decades, a sweet reminder of simpler times and cherished traditions.

Cajun Picnic Extravaganza
Now, cher, I can see the weight on your shoulders, the hustle and bustle of daily life pressing down. Let me tell you why a picnic, a simple yet profound act, might just be the balm your tired soul needs.
Reconnecting with Nature In the heart of a Louisiana picnic, you find a sanctuary away from the concrete and chaos. Surrounded by the beauty of nature, you can breathe in the fresh air, listen to the rustle of leaves, and let the warmth of the sun or the shade of a mighty oak rejuvenate your spirit.
Unplug and Unwind A picnic is a chance to unplug from the demands of screens and notifications, creating a moment where time slows down. Lay out that blanket, savor the flavors of a homemade Cajun feast, and give yourself the gift of being present in the moment.
Quality Time with Loved Ones Whether you have a family or pets or simply your own company, a picnic offers an opportunity to reconnect with those you hold dear. Share stories, laughter, and the simple joy of good food. It's a chance to build memories that will carry you through the hectic days.
Cajun Comfort in Every Bite A picnic with Cajun treats is more than just a meal; it's a taste of home, a reminder of the rich culinary heritage surrounding you. Cajun cuisine has a way of warming the heart and soothing the soul – an embrace in every bite.
Stress Relief in Nature's Embrace Surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature, you'll find stress slowly melting away. A picnic by the bayou or under the live oaks is an invitation to let go of worries, even if just for a little while.
Creating Moments of Joy Amid a busy life, it's easy to forget the simple joy of a leisurely afternoon. A picnic is a chance to reclaim that joy, to relish the beauty of a blue sky, the laughter of loved ones, and the delightful taste of a Cajun treat.
So, my dear one, take a moment for yourself. Pack a basket with Cajun delights, find a shady spot, and let the world slow down. A picnic is not just a break; it's a celebration of life's simple pleasures, a reminder that amidst the chaos, there is always time to savor the beauty around you.
Picture this:
You arrive at your chosen picnic spot and take a deep breath. Ah. Smell that delicious Louisiana air! You can feel the stress just melting away as you carefully remove your food from your basket.
Appetizer You start your picnic with the savory goodness of Boudin Balls. These Cajun delights, made from a flavorful mix of rice, pork, and spices, are a true crowd-pleaser. Pack them in a basket with a side of Creole mustard for that extra kick.
Main Course For the main course, you indulge in the iconic Shrimp Po' Boys. Crispy, golden-fried shrimp nestled in a fluffy French bread roll, dressed with lettuce, tomatoes, and a generous spread of remoulade sauce. Wrap them up individually for easy handling.
Side Dish Then you add a Cajun twist to a classic side with Cajun Potato Salad. Infused with the trinity of Cajun flavors – onions, bell peppers, and celery – it's a cool and creamy complement to the bold tastes of the main course.
Snack For a little munch between bites, bring along some Zapp’s potato chips, or some premade Spicy Cajun Popcorn. Coat freshly popped kernels with a mix of Cajun spices, creating a snack that's both fiery and addictive.
Dessert Finally, you wrap up your Cajun feast with the sweet indulgence of Pecan Pralines. These sugary treats, loaded with pecans, offer a taste of Southern sweetness that'll leave everyone smiling. Of course, you could always go the nostalgic route and take along a Moon Pie!
Beverage And, of course, you wash it all down with the bubbly goodness of Big Shot soda. The flavors of Louisiana dance on your palate, and it's as if all your troubles popped away as each little bubble hit your tongue.
Sounds Amazing, Right?
All you have to do to make this little daydream your reality is pack your picnic basket, find a shady spot under the live oaks, and savor the Cajun feast!
Go ahead. Serve yourself a bit of love and a heaping sprinkle of that famous Cajun joie de vivre.
