My first collaboration with the lovely @prairieandpampa - Plum Tarts! • Photos 1-3: A Quarrel of Feasts' Croatian Plum Custard Tart, made from a sable base and plums cooked in Croatian Sljivovica (80 proof plum brandy) with notes of lemon, cinnamon, and clove. Finally, the Cevapcici Feast Day is upon me. 🌿 I'm so proud to acknowledge my Croatian, formerly Yugo, heritage, the first Cevapcici that I had in Sarajevo 1998 (which I'm working on an essay about), and the heritage of my Turkish beau. 🌿 Cevapci/Cevapcici are grilled minced beef & lamb, made with fluffy Lepinja bread, carmelized onions, roasted red pepper Ajvar, and Kajmak, a sour cream based (I modernized) sauce. A coastal salad of tomato/red onion/cucumber is also usually not far behind. 🌿 I'm so proud of this dish, and this is the very first time I've ever made every element myself. A leftover post not yet written for Cranberry Orange Crisp (or Crumble if you prefer). • Records exist of Cranberry sauce being used in Thanksgiving the meal/ritual, perhaps not since 1621, but records exist in the late 17th to 18th centuries as a cranberry sauce. • Native to North America and farmed since the 1800s, cranberries are often paired with apple or pear or some such sweeter fruit. • I love the tartness of cranberry and found that a simple cranberry compote flavored with orange rind/juice as a wonderful complement is only crying out for a nutty oats cinnamon buttery crumble and a little time in the oven for warmth. • The best part is, you can flavor the cranberry compote as you wish and use any crumble recipe you love.
