A kaneki headcanon for you that I am metaphorically pushing under your door

Kaneki was a literary purist when he was younger, he’d refuse to buy any translated version of a book he wants to read and instead struggled his way through with a combination of the internet and a dictionary.

This was made even worse during his American lit phase because of how much cultural context is needed to understand the masterpieces. The only one he really connected with was The Grapes of Wrath, because of his upbringing and losing his mom because she was working to feed him.

Kaneki read American Psycho late into highschool and it brought down his Gpa by a decent amount. He had multiple notebooks just keeping track of everything going on in an attempt to understand what was going on. He’d spend nights up late theorizing about the book and was planning to submit his analysis on it for his PhD before he got ghouled.

Shironeki definitely speaks much better English and upon rereading it, he fell in love with fear and loathing in last Vegas, connecting it to his experiences in the ghoul world.

American psycho also was one of the things that connected Kaneki and Hide as they drifted apart as they got older, hide being a big fan of the movie saved their friendship.

And this ask also made me realise how much Kaneki would have liked this book too!!!! Aaaaaah I’d kill to have gotten to see his PhD analysis on it :((( too bad he was ghoulified. YEAH. Despite. 90% of the sonaverse posts being abt the heavenly trio there is an actual story outside of them sjdkfn. Within vampire society there are a few ruling groups that hold power and they are VERY oppressive and controlling of their members down to controlling their vampires' first bites.

Some vampires managed to break away from these groups and together established their own safe haven of a town. Once they've built themselves up a little bit they turn to raids and 'party crashing's on the bigger groups, in order to help vampires escape and offer them a chance at a better life. Some accept, some don't.

Within the town the first escapees and a select few act as some from of government, mostly to work on protecting their haven and conducting these raids. Sona runs into them at some point and eventually joins them, agreeing with their cause, driven by still holding a grudge against the vampires involved in him being turned. He ends up getting a place there as well but he generally doesn't stay there/stays at his old place more often.

They don't like him for. the cannibalism. and frequency in which he becomes a danger to others (& himself) but he's an asset of decent value to them (good at hitting stuff really hard /hj) so they tolerate him.

Every day I come closer to 1 year clean it aches more and more, but it’s easier to silence. I’ve been out of my meds for a couple weeks and I can’t really afford more at the moment. I have a few stashed away for a really bad day so that’s alright. I’m managing better without them now.

And yet the razor is collecting rust in the sink and my fingertips smell of ash.

I can't believe Sarah won an AACTA for a voiceover role lol

Don't get me started, anon, I'm still salty about it, which isn't to say that I don't think voice acting should be recognised! I do! But Sarah winning the AACTA for that role tells me what a weak year it was for film in Australia overall, and a particularly weak year for good roles for actresses. Like, I enjoyed The Dry, but I thought the sequel was a disaster, which is very depressing given how many actresses I love were in it, Kid Snow was terrible, Furiosa obviously underperformed and wasn't as good as people were hoping (I also am not an ATJ fan), and even though I did really enjoy Better Man, and am glad it took home Best Picture, in terms of women, that was all wives-and-girlfriend roles.

My pick of the nominees would've been Laura Gordon in Late Night with the Devil, but even that performance I wouldn't say is AACTA-worthy, and I'm a huge champion of horror getting more awards recognition. It was a deeply flawed film, but I actually would have rather seen Shari Sebbens be nominated for The Moogai if we're doing horror noms, who I think is pretty underrated as an actress generally. I think she brought a lot to that role - certainly more than what was written - and I think she really showed her range last year between that, Thou Shalt Not Steal (which was a very good series! I'm glad it got some TV noms, but am bummed Shari was snubbed there too) and Australia's version of The Office, which isn't good, but I don't think it's as bad as people are saying either, honestly.

So yes! Basically I'm going to use your ask to spruik The Moogai, haha. Again, it's flawed, but it's the debut feature from Indigenous filmmaker, Jon Bell, and I really think Shari is really good in it! Hoping tumblr becomes obsessed with her soon given she's about to be a lead in Deadloch s2 too, haha.

honestly it’s kinda damned if I do damned if I don’t though cause I stuck to my guns and Didn’t Go Home this weekend and I found myself standing in the library dvd aisle staring down at picnic at hanging rock and desperately wishing I could bring it home to ma so then I called her and she’s in one of her moods where she doesn’t wanna talk and obviously she’s allowed to have feelings but man I do wish somebody would be as happy to see me as I am to see them, yanno. I wish I was the kind of person people get excited about. And then I’m trying to set things up with my friends here but everybody’s busy All The Time and then it’s like I’m trying to balance two lives at once and not doing a particularly stellar job of it
