No Q but I really do enjoy your posts about fiber arts even if half the time I'm like knit? Crochet? Difference? Thanks for the reminders on why it's so important to buy natural fibers and decent made stuff with fair labor practices (I have a lot of wool pieces now and my dad is like, I have 50 yo cashmere so like, they really do last) ANYWAY I just really enjoy seeing you nerd out about something I don't see much of on Tumblr

Oh anon, thank you! I can talk about it for literally forever, but Tumblr is where I go to daydream about superheroes kissing so it doesn't often come up on my dash.

I think it is tough because the conversation about sustainability intersects with conversations about equity and accessibility, where - again, that mindset of 'opting out' requires both economic and social privilege. Having the time to go thrifting for second-hand garments that are good quality and will last, having the money to buy new garments made of natural fibers, and having the ability to choose to wear those garments in your day to day life (ie, not needing to wear a uniform or dress to a dress code) are big parts of being able to engage in the personal-choice element of sustainable textile consumption.

But ultimately like - I think we have to keep remembering that our current ways of consuming clothing are new. Even back into the 1940s people were sewing their own garments or altering them, and would have a countable number of outfits. And it's been a slow creep towards the current model but it's - like, the planet is burning we have to make it easy for everyone to change, not just the people who have the time and resources to make sustainability their hobby.

#someone smarter than me i'm sure will write a book that's just #world war 2 ruined everything #i think a lot about watching wartime farm and the ways they discuss the push to use every available sliver of land #for food production #because suddenly they had to #but a lot of it is the seeds of modern factory farming #it was never meant to be sustainable it was meant to do a lot with less #and there was a push to keep up with it to prevent/dig out of the post-war recession #and we just kept going with it for oh 80 years or so #and we need to calm down we need to slow down we need to use legislative levers to figure out how to produce less #without society collapsing because Number Didn't Go Up #fibre arts are the best arts #textile sustainability tag #night of the living anons

So. Danny has discovered he might erm, might be technically a necromancer. At least as far as magic is concerned. Like even if it’s just via resurrecting himself the magic side of things (god, he’s more scientist- sided dangit) count it as such.

Which means that half the time someone tries to summon a necromancing-esque being, he’s the one who gets tugged if he’s even a centimeter within range. It was annoying enough in high school, it’s no less annoying in this world they’ve all moved to.

On the bright side, thanks to also being half dead himself, the summonings and other rituals can’t actually drag him somewhere. It just causes him to feel like someone was crushing a lung or two, which honestly nothing new. (Gosh were those days of vigilante work really that violent? Huh, guess they were)

What he wasn’t expecting was for a tiny child, a living child, to track him down despite him not existing legally or anything similar in this world, to revive their previous local child vigilante. Which like, hey, first of all, he has a few questions? Just a couple and yeah sure, he’ll shake on it- can he have your name first there kid…?

Tim, on the other hand, is getting a little concerned when he realizes a lot of the questions the probable-fae keeps asking are in line with the stuff CPS asks. (Unknown to him, that is exactly where Danny is getting several of his questions about this scrawny vigilante kid. Erm. He might have to take the kid, for like, his own safety- hey Frostbite he needs your help he has some questions-)

officially started studying for my medical school board exams today! i am definitely easing myself into it though as i had brunch with a friend this morning, did a question set, then watched poor things (loved it!) with another friend in the afternoon. i’ve been using breaks and evenings to get some baking in and have really been enjoying being able to bake without feeling pressed for time with clinical rotations as well!

I kind of enjoy making little blog posts sharing (romanticising) my life a bit, so here's my morning!

I've been making compote for my oats out of fruit I've been gifted/picked so it doesn't go off, this one tastes slightly like onions because I didn't wash my chopping board well enough after just making soup... but it's...still good. Anyway I am very melancholy about the season changing so I decided to make time to go out and paint before it gets too cold!

The footpath had been plowed over and it was so tiring climbing over these massive ridges to get to the forest, but someone has to make it a path again I guess. Also, I decided to document the awful stage in every painting that I was VERY unsure I'd be able to get past this time. It's nice to know that it worked out!

I made a gurney style easel (so it attaches to a tripod) and I was very pleased it actually worked, with...some adjustments (velcro) to cover my failings. [thank u for commissioning me >:) this is what I was getting stuff for]

I'm pretty happy with it, the light moved loads and I lost my initial impression, but it still has the vibes! I also saw a squirrel run over that central branch which was so cute...

Spotting other points I was like 'damn, I wanna paint this too'- but I actually chose somewhere entirely hidden bc I was quite scared I'd make a mess of it and someone might see. (I've seen like...one person here ever, in years. Still.)
