Odd question (maybe) but do you think one shots fics should have a word limit? I’m nearly 5k into writing one and probably have a few more k to go, is that too much? Oh god

You know, some people do, but I'm not one of them. I've read 50k+ one-shots. However, I will say that sometimes splitting up longer one-shots may be more advisable for readability options. A lot of people read fic on the go, so splitting bits up can make it easier because that's how they're reading it - however, you should never force yourself to split it up into chapters if it doesn't feel like a natural pause in the story.

In general, I would say once you start reaching around 10k, you may want to consider seeing if it can be split into two chapters. 5k I do not think requires being split up.

But maybe the followers will drop their own thoughts on the matter into the replies?
