“Why’d you leave?” He asks, very gently. He can hear the incredulity in Matt’s voice, that he just doesn’t understand how Kenny messed it all up. Kenny doesn’t get it either, to be honest. “You were happy.”

“Because I don’t know how to be happy.” He says, too honestly. “I always want more. More titles, more accolades… and it’s never enough. I don’t think it’ll ever be enough for me.”

“He could have come with you.” He says, like Kenny hadn’t thought of that. Like he hadn’t spent so many sleepless nights staring at Kota’s back, memorising every freckle and scar and wondering if he really could have it all.

“He wouldn’t have been happy here.” Kenny sighs.

“You’re not happy here.” Matt challenges, and Kenny knows he’s right.

“I love Kota.” He says, and his voice wavers. He swallows thickly, clears his throat to stop the burning of tears. “I also love you, Nick, and Adam. You’ve- you’ve all done so much for me, at my worst and my best. This- this was always for you guys. You called me so I came. God knows I owe it to you.” He takes a deep, shuddering breath.

“I’m trying, Matty. I’m trying so hard, but it’s just-“ he coughs to cover sobs, but Matt isn’t stupid, not when it comes to knowing when Kenny is hurting. Somehow that makes him feel more hopeless than ever.

Any general thoughts on/relating to the Brobot?

I really love the brobot!!!! People really misconstrue it and also leave it out in a lot of dirkjake talk? Its a big player in not only how dirk expresses his affection/desire towards jake but also in their multi year spanning unspoken game of gay chicken 😭😭(all of dirks splinters are but Not about them rn)

It was sent yknow under the pretense that jake loves wrestling and wished so bad to have somebody he could wrestle with. But at the same time it protects jake from the horrors of hellmurder island (seen before they strife), pushing jake into the Damsel in distress role he wasnt expecting to play even before all the shit in the game, with Dirk being his hero.

Jake says he keeps it on a high difficulty because apparently in the Novice mode he says their interactions become "too tender" and doesnt want to elaborate, Friendly reminder! His convo with jane on the SAME DAY dirk pulled off that big romantic overture and the kiss happens and him and dirk begin "dating".. is the same day he asked jane if it didnt make him weird for wanting to date dirk. And he also says hed joke around with dirk about how theyd soo make a great couple if dirk were a girl haha.

I imagine the brobot and well. Getting physical like that with a robot that supposedly looks like dirk probably gave jake his internal gay awakening at 13 but he just never wanted to actually confront it and instead just wanted to brush past everything 😭😭 (See: every single time sexuality or romance comes up in relation to jake he is literally always thinking about dirk somehow and he never directly talks about his attraction to men or how that reflects/contradicts on his self image of the Movie Star Hero guy)

and jake doesnt actually hate the thing either, he tells jane he thinks it genuinely did improve his fighting capabilities (Which we see it did in collide! he beat basically the whole felt with guns and fisticuffs alone, no hope powers.) Which serves as a pretty evident parallel to dave who also is good at fighting, even if he doesnt want to be. (see dirk + dave convo)

This one comes from hussies authors notes in the aradiabot and equius scene (which equius imagery being invoked with dirk. something i could totally rant about another time haha) but yeah. Jake was being selfish asshat in that log forcing jane into a corner and wringing what he wanted to hear out of her, and also not giving a shit about the brobot (Which served as his protector and only other semblance of human connection since he was 13 and was a BIRTHDAY GIFT FROM DIRK) KILLING ITSELF? But hes so preoccupied talking about dirk. THE REAL DIRK. And immediately after jake loses the dirk splinter that protected him, HE (AND DIRK) CREATE A NEW ONE FOR HIMSELF USING THEIR COMBINED POWERS/?

Hussie is lying.. somebody Does care about dirks feelings. a whole lot to the point they activate their powers unwittingly Because of it. and its jake. but jake just cant admit that himself. (He cannot admit his real feelings until given permission to, dirk would have to concede the game of gay chicken first using his words and not just actions)

ANYWAY. hussie is so right its so easy to get sidetracked times one million talking about this comic. BUT AHH!! BROBOT. his existence.. tragic.. Jakes really smart in knowing that all of dirks splinters enlighten aspects of himself he doesnt oft share, and the brobot served as another dirk action on the pile of dirk actions he engineers to signify his deep immense care for jake, where he lets these grand gestures and implications sit out in the open without ever actually saying what they mean and where his feelings lay.

EVEN IF ITS SUPER OBVIOUS. The d man cant use his big boy words to actually describe his feelings despite how much a yaps! so jake doesnt know if hes even allowed to say anything about his own. Fellas: Is it gay if you labour for supposedly an extended period of time to create a custom robot in your own image to ship in pieces to your best bro guy crush who is HUNDREDS OF YEARS IN THE PAST because you cant be there yourself?

I think this hal message says enough about how bad dirk wished he could visit jake 💀💀

I think a lot about Leo’s tendency to push his way into the spotlight despite clearly being a natural in the shadows. Hell, you could argue that his worst moments are when he’s forcing himself onstage, and his best are when he does things no one notices until it’s already been done.

You see Last Hourglass when you break it down to its bare essentials is really about the struggle of healing and forgiving yourself and rediscovering a self-love so strong it literally manifests across dimensions as a blue kitsune spirit in order to protect your own past self even though neither of you really believe (yet) that you're deserving of that kind of devotion

I don't have anything really meaningful to say but I'm gonna ramble for a bit the scene where Donnie is doing his siblings little favors to try to get them to help Quease

-Makes Mikey food--okay makes sense. Bribery for little brother. He catches on immediately that he is being manipulated and does not show much interest in the offered prize. Donnie tries to appeal to his logical nature--that's uh. a choice.

no but I love how much this tells us about the way Donnie sees Mikey as a peer, often they have this surface level dynamic of 'smart guy and silly guy,' but the fact that Don tries a logical approach (the approach that would work best on himself) shows trust in Mikey's judgment. And the fact that Mikey immediately clocked the bribery, before Donnie brought up why he was making Mikey's favorite dish, tells us that trust is not misplaced.

He just... maybe should've known that Mikey isn't driven by logic, no matter how much sense your argument makes to him he's gonna stick with what feels right (which will either be what seems most fun or what he deems morally correct, depends on the situation and his state of mind)

Next we see him polishing Leo's sword while Leo literally leans back and enjoys being spoiled. Ah, bribery again; Donnie sees Leo and Mikey on a similar level. I think this could've been an effective idea with Leo, appeal to his sense of justice for a tradeoff, but by doing the favor before even bringing up what he wants in return, Donnie has lost his leverage. Leo is fully taking advantage of the situation and only paying just enough attention to what Donnie's asking to be able to string him along (points at spots he missed, prompts 'keep polishing'). Truly devious, Leo. There may be more going on in your brick-battered noggin than you sometimes let on.

Also, while it was a foolish move strategically, polishing the sword first shows that Donnie trusts Leo. In this case it was misplaced,, BUT we can assume that it didn't come from nowhere. Leo's a brother you can count on to have your back, do the things he said he was gonna do. and only sometimes press his advantage to get you to do his chores

Slightly different approach with Venus--they're meditating. I don't think we've seen anyone meditate with Venus since that first time she tried to teach them? From this I am of course assuming that they sometimes do but probably not often. This is really sweet to me. Donnie wants his siblings to take an interest in what's important to him (science) so he's taking an interest in what's important to her (magic). This one feels less like a tradeoff because of how he presents his argument. 'You have a conscience. You have to help.'

Ah he's gone from bribery to guilt-tripping. See, I feel this approach would have been more effective with Leo. Maybe too effective actually, probably too dangerous to use on him.

At any rate, it doesn't phase Venus at all. She feels empathy for his situation, which he was counting on, but he underestimated how much logic factors into her decision-making. She figures Quease is long gone by now; no point going on a mission to rescue a dead guy. (Donnie: We have to help him! Venus: eh, he's probably already been eaten. Donnie: ... okay first of all that's gross--)

Now it might be because he's getting desperate, but Donnie cheeses the most with Raph. He starts the same way he did with Venus, doing an activity Raph enjoys (sparring). Again it feels less like bribery, because sparring is something they do all the time, and Donnie presents his argument like he wants to spend more tie with Raph. Sparring is to set the tone for the adventure they're about to go on; it's not a tradeoff, it's 'hey you know what would be fun :)'

What gets to me though is the grinning and the 'blink blink' and calling him buddy and generally trying to be cute. See, this could've worked well with Mikey or Venus! But he has his dignity to preserve with them, Venus is still new and Mikey is his little brother. Even Leo is mystified enough by his tech that he can get away with some 'you have to listen to me because I'm a genius.' He doesn't have a shred of dignity to lose with Raph. Not only that, but he assumes that Raph will be persuaded by the pleading eyes of a younger sibling who just wants to spend time with him. Raph is generally pretty likely to be persuaded by Mikey or Venus, and they do both have a high cuteness factor

Raph is not persuaded. Maybe it'd work better if he'd won the spar: Mikey and Venus may be cute, but they are both also vicious.

Actually, I think a logical approach like he tried with Mikey would work better with Raph; later in the hypnosis episode that's what works to get Raph to go to Silver's with him

Anyways what eventually works on all of them is to simply go himself. This is what 1987 and later 03 Donatellos would do. Just stick by your guns and your brothers will follow. If Don had, when they first refused, said to their faces in daylight that he was going with or without them, they would've most likely followed. That's how Venus got her way with the baby turtle, and it'll work for Mikey later with the rave.

But Donnie wants verbal agreement and backup first, and when he doesn't get that he decides to sneak out while they're sleeping. He is definitely the sneakiest of the NM turtles; if he doesn't feel he has the family's support on something, he does it quietly while they're not looking. Very middle child.

It didn't sit well with me how much the episode seemed to punish Donatello for trusting/admiring a guy who is Weird more than it did anyone else for ignoring him when he asked for help. It's not like a huge deal... actually maybe it is a huge deal to me. Before they know that Quease is evil they're completely dismissive of Donnie's frantic concern simply because "Donnie's hero is a nut job." Okay?? I guess it's fine for people who commit the atrocity of being odd and off-putting to be terrorized and/or eaten by the dragon lord?

I mean it just goes back to the writing, they are also dismissive of

-Mikey's claim to have seen a big talking monkey (how unrealistic in a show all about big talking turtles)

-Venus's interest in helping a dragon who saved her

-Venus's concern about vampires

It's a definite pattern and I guess it just bugs me. Just feels unnecessarily mean. It isn't inherently bad for characters to be mean, but this behavior doesn't fit into their arcs in any kind of meaningful way or even exactly feel in character? I mean it's in character because it's canon and they're doing it but it doesn't help me understand who they are. Does that make sense? idk it feels like they want me to think it's funny when someone reasonably asks for help and gets made fun of and ignored. could be much funnier if they gave us the relief factor of knowing a cheesy contrived apology scene is coming

Also I might just be biased in Donnie's favor at all times, but I think this episode bothered me more because of how much Splinter did not seem to care when no one would help Donnie, compared to him usually being (understandably) quite protective of Venus when the boys are punks to her

But since it happened I am getting all the joy I can from the sibling dynamics shown while I obsess over this episode so I can write a fix-it fic

Welcome, friends. If you followed me sometime in the last year and a half, here’s a funny story for you: I used to write Witcher fics (a lot even, at one point) (and I pray I will write again, though at the moment brain be words what no speaky English). (But I digress.)

What you can find on my blog: shitposting, sarcasm, salt—and Ciri. A lot of Ciri. (Often tagged as: "brat <3". No reason.) Also, many Ciri pairings. We support most Ciri pairings in this house.

What you can find on my AO3: Also a lot of Ciri in different pairings, or sometimes in multiple pairings, as (a) I am a multishipper and (b) Ciri is bi and can do no wrong and (c) has two hands and a hatred for cages and also (d) poly/open relationships are the new love triangles and we need more of them, actually.

"Blood Ties" verse, aka Queen of Cintra verse (aka mammoth), or a 100k words novel in three parts about what happens if neither witchering nor ruling the empire (nor dying, I guess) fully satisfies our girl's ambitions. (Answer: let’s go and shake up the geopolitical landscape of the post-TW3 Continent, reclaim your throne, piss off Dijkstra in the process, make new allies and enemies both, grow and heal, get what you wanted, find indulgence, and also love. Ships aplenty, including some nobody else thought of. Just saying.)

"Broken Pieces" verse, or what happens if Cahir survives, but somewhat fails to move on (he tries), and Ciri fails to be indifferent (she also tries). (Answer: witchering shenanigans, but also some family reunions, Ceallach being a Smart Cookie, Geralt being the Daddest Dad, Ciri being a brat, but also right, but also needing a reality check and to get her head out of her ass. Spoiler alert: happy/bittersweet ending. It’s Witcher-verse, after all.)

"Splinters" verse, or what happens when the author develops a brainrot. (Answer: modern!AU with the main theme being: everyone is thirsty for Cahir/Eamon’s hands. Banter, pinning, thirst, smut, and more banter. Past that comes back to bite everyone in the ass, heartbreak, and a happy ending. Always a happy ending. And Angouleme being the Best Gremlin.)

“The Ghost of You”, or what happens when Ciri gets Ideas, and tries to use Cahir to get what she wants. (Formerly known as the Cancel WIP. Mind the tags with this one; set during LotL, unhealthy coping mechanisms aplenty, trauma and PTSD galore, leading to the first steps of healing. It’s always, always about healing with these two.)

“Sing To Me In The Dark”, or what happens if Cahir finds himself in Kaer Morhen to help defend it from the Hunt. (Answer: the author wants to know too. Although the author mostly knows, but brain no speaky English, see above.)

“Hunter’s Moon”, or what happened in Beauclair during the hansa stay there, from the point of view of a certain succubus. (Answer: a certain vampire attempting to be a smartass, not always succeeding; smut and banter, and more smut. Also, a heartbreak.)

Fun little silly thought I had about the Lair Games and specifically Leo deliberately losing is all the reasons he could have for doing so.

My favorite headcanon for his main motivation is that Splinter wasn’t proud of him anymore.

I imagine that, in the beginning, winning the Lair Games was Leo’s opportunity to shine. He wasn’t artistic or the baby of the family like Mikey, wasn’t a tech genius who created amazing inventions like Donnie, wasn’t the eldest who was insanely strong and dependable like Raph. So he had to shine somewhere else- anywhere else- and what better way to get attention than to be a winner? A champion?

And then he won too much. And it wasn’t special anymore. He got too big headed, too cocky, he knew this was his element and he ran with it.

Splinter’s words of congratulations slowly petered out. Suddenly, there was no real reason to win.

Winning feels empty when the only one cheering you on is yourself.

So- Leo schemed. And he’s a great schemer, fooling his whole family (and Donnie did deserve a win- people were way happier when he won.)

He even gave up his prized possession! His room!

Though he knows his brothers probably think it’s a bad prize. A terrible one, even.

Leo doesn’t sleep much as is, though. So Dad’s snores were more comforting than anything. It was reassuring to hear him so clearly alive and close by.

Even if the distance between them was larger than Leo’d like.

He’d just have to find something else, something more to show his dad that Leo was someone to trust, to be proud of, to love.

He gets his chance soon after, when he needs to pull off a plan against Big Mama at his dad’s side. Leo can only hope this victory is one that has a lasting effect when his father looks at him with pride once more.

Victory, for Leo, is a pretty loaded term.

one thing about my Fantasy AU Draxum is that unlike basically all my other versions of Draxum, he doesn't have chronic pain. This is because he doesn't actually have a body like 90% of the time, and when he does bother materialize, he doesn't have a nervous system and isn't really capable of experiencing much in the way of sensation. I'm making up for this by giving him worse memory issues tho lol
