had a scary incident with goose and a chihuahua today. we were coming up on a corner and didn't see each other until it was too late. lots of growling and lunging in close quarters from both sides, i picked up the chihuahua bc the owner was frozen and i didn't want goose to hurt it. but the chihuahua bit my face, probably out of fear at that point. i passed it off to another person who came to help and it bit her hand. it was fine in the end, but really scary. i'm going to muzzle goose from now on, just to prevent a worse accident in the future

'TIS THE SEASON FOR THE SNEEZIN' - What causes dogs to sneeze and when should you be concerned?
Tumblr media
sneeze /snēz/ (n.) the act of expelling air from the nose; (v.) to make a sudden involuntary expulsion of air from the nose/mouth due to irritation in the nostrils
Sneezing can be a perfectly normal behavior observed in our dogs, especially since they're constantly putting their noses to work. It's not uncommon for a dog to sniff up something once in awhile that might tickle their nose.
Dogs may also sneeze when they get happy or excited. Every now and then, a "reverse sneeze" can occur when air is inhaled rapidly. This can sound like a snort and sometimes look like an asthma attack, or like they are choking - although it can be scary, this is not at all what is happening and the reverse sneezing usually will subside after a few seconds. Here is an example below:
Common Causes of Sneezing
Tumblr media
Allergies/Irritants - This includes plant particles, dust, or other substances in the air that can cause irritation in the nasal cavity.
Tumblr media
Nasal Obstruction - Brachycephalic dog breeds (i.e. French Bulldog, Pug, Boxer, Pekingese, Shih Tzu, etc.) are more prone to frequent sneezing because of their flat faces and shortened muzzles, which cause compression to their nasal passages.
When to be concerned...
In some cases, sneezing - especially when severe or consistent - can be a sign of something more serious that needs to be addressed.
Tumblr media
Foreign Objects - Some plant materials your dog may inhale can eventually get stuck. Foxtails especially pose a threat during the late spring-summer months, when their spiked leaves have dried out and hardened. Dogs often need to be sedated for foxtails to be extracted from the nasal cavity. (They also can get stuck under the skin, in between the paws, in ears, eyelids, or the throat. In worse-case scenarios, a foxtail can also travel to the lungs!)
Tumblr media
Infectious Diseases - Other substances your dog may inhale could be bacterial or fungal spores. (See my previous posts about ASPERGILLOSIS and CANINE INFECTIOUS RESPIRATORY DISEASE COMPLEX.)
Tumblr media
Nasal Mites - These parasites are reported worldwide. They can either be directly transmitted from other infested dogs, or otherwise found in the environment. An infestation of these in your dog's nose can cause constant itchiness, sneezing, and bleeding depending on the severity.
Tumblr media
Dental Disease - Dogs who suffer from severe periodontal disease or a fractured tooth may develop tooth root abscesses. If left untreated, infection can spread to the surrounding tissues, sometimes causing significant facial swelling that erupt the nasal passages.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nasal Tumor/Cancer - Statistically, about 1-2% of dog tumors are found in the nasal cavity - and about 80% of them turn out to be malignant. Because these tumors are hidden in the nasal cavity, they are more difficult to detect. By the time symptoms are noticeable by a dog owner, often the nasal cancer is already at an advanced stage - and due to the sensitivity of its location, surgery is often difficult. Prognosis varies by case, although the median survival rate for dogs that undergo radiation therapy ranges from 6-18 months. As with any type of cancer, the earlier it is diagnosed and treated, the better the chances are that treatment will be successful.
youtube
If you believe your dog's sneezing may be due to an underlying health issue, do not hesitate to consult with a veterinarian. Always be on the lookout for these additional symptoms if you ever think your dog is sneezing one too many times...
Frequent pawing at the nose
Frequent licking of the nose
Nasal discharge
Bleeding from the nostrils
Swelling or asymmetry in the face
Difficulty breathing

How do I protect my dog from foxtails and cheatgrass?
You may have heard that grass awns can be detrimental to dogs, but why exactly are they harmful? It is possible for the seed pods of tall grasses, such as cheatgrass and foxtail, to adhere to a dog and pierce their skin. These foreign objects have the potential to travel throughout the body and cause dangerous inflammation and infection if left untreated.
By becoming knowledgeable about the identification of these potentially hazardous grasses, you may help shield the dog from foxtails, cheatgrass, and other types of damaging grass awns. The earlier you identify your dog's grass-awn issues, the easier it will be to assist them and avoid more severe harm. Read More...

December 31st, 2022
New Years, Nick
-Inspired by our phone call last night and the things I did yesterday.
I well up at 11:30, finishing the letter you wrote me, I text you “I love you” 24 times. That’s about how many times I’ll read “Ode to Elliott Smith, Ending in the First Snowfall of 2003” by the end of the year. It sat snug in the envelope beside a photo you had taken of Yash and me by the ocean. I must be Rick. If this house were to be set on fire Nick, your words might be the first thing I grab. That would make my Mum smile. She said to me before “I don’t see myself going out tonight”, I know that isn’t true. She’s already begun drinking. Kobe looks so dejected today as if his eyes can comprehend what she says. I hope somehow I cheer him up. Tonight he’ll scream at fireworks like we both wish we could do and for all the same reasons too.
Yesterday I watched Lulu Wangs’ “The Farewell” for the first time, my Nan called my number halfway through. After it had finished I went out into the backyard to see her and from over the fence could hear kids playing, like the sounds of birds earlier, when I hung my clothes. To me, it all sounds immensely inspiring. I’m still trying to get that smell out of fabrics. I did her chores and kissed her on the forehead. She’s insistent on giving me money and I’m not as tough so despite my fight, I leave with two bags of rubbish and a twenty-dollar note. I used to have nightmares of losing her, Helen left us this year but Sue I can’t let that happen to you. Last night I listened to “fawn” by foxtails, also for the first time. I think they’ll be my annual late-December, rest of the next year obsession. It was Backxwash last time. I’m not quite sure what that says about my emotional state come the New Year. Blue’s screeches on the opening track “ego death” echo throughout my pretend content mind:
Frenzied for means of escape
Consciousness melds with the days
Longing for a state from before the decay
Tedious flows turn to sludge
Praying that fate holds no grudges
Carrying on with distrust, how unjust
Is this what it’s like to grow up?
To realize everything’s fucked up?
To realize dreams are delusions of youth?
No room for missteps
Easily caught in spiderwebs
Wisdom feels worthless when compared to innocence
Yet faith is embedded and infinite
The beauty of life is ubiquitous
The soul dies when all it can do is reminisce

Not a fan of bragging but I had to pull out a piece foxtail out of my dog's BH. She got all the cuddles after the ordeal, but it was not a pleasant experience for all of us

– did you love me when he was just my friend?
Tumblr media
papa i don't need a preacher / i ain't some kind of creature / from some old double feature / i just wanna make you proud / of the kind of love i've found / but you say it ain't allowed / say it's a sin / but it's how i've always been / did you love me when he was just my friend? / daddy, do you think i've turned out right?
george luz, son of a small town preacher, grew up hearing that all love is heaven sent, that it's holy and true in all its forms. it was told to him every night before he closed his eyes and by the time he reaches adulthood, it's a core part of his nature. love is good. welcomed and encouraged. he sees it in the way his father glances at his mother, sat next to him in the second pew, before he begins every sermon, and he sees it in the quiet support she always gives back. he feels it every day when his dog licks at the palm of his hand whilst he sits restlessly on the front porch, wondering if there's something more out there than this one small town.
love is good. welcomed. encouraged. he meets the new hire at foxtail creek, a small ranch about a mile outside the town border, in the summer. the newcomer mostly keeps to himself, a rancher looking for temporary work. george can't help but be intrigued by the first outsider he's met in months and takes it upon himself to befriend the man. he'd always been good at making friends, most just pass through, or eventually move away, but george had always been content with the fact that his self-proclaimed wit and charm managed to win them over for however long they gave him. slowly, as he and the rancher become more and more intwined, george begins to realise that, in his neck of the woods, not all love is sent from above, at least not in the eyes of his friends and family.

Hi guys i hate to ask for this but my dog Pluto has been hurt for weeks and we've been doing literally everything we can but he has to go to the vet, and we just dont have the money. He's got foxtails and cactus needles in his foot and hes losing a lot of fur and weight because he's so sick. My dad has talked to every vet around us and nobody accepts payments, and after explaining and showing vets pictures they told us if it doesn't get fixed soon he could get a blood infection and die. He can walk on it, but the blood infection and the foxtail/needles are unfixable without a vet and medicine. If we could take him to the vet he'd have to be muzzled and knocked out, so it'd be around $800 to $1000. Im not expecting to raise that, but literally anything would help. My dad has just started a new job and isn't making much yet and with paychecks so far apart he won't be able to spare the money for months. I don't want to go through my entire life story, but ive been through a lot of shit with this dog and he's protected me, my sibling, and my dad's lives multiple times. I don't want to lose him to this.

You and Remus returned to Grimmauld Place. Things were hectic for a while as the Order prepared for Harry’s hearing after his use of the Patronus Charm at Privet Drive.
Once the hearing passed and it was decided that Harry was allowed to return to Hogwarts, Remus reminded you of your promise to go see your mother (a stupid “credibility check,” as you called it) and he asked, in a somewhat embarrassed voice, if he might be allowed to tag along “to fix the horrendous impression that he’d given to your mother so far.”
“You don’t have to prove anything to her, Remus,” you assured him, but you were fine with him coming along with you, as long as he would not take to heart any harsh things your mother might say to him.
You and Remus had this discussion in the kitchen of Grimmauld Place, and Sirius was there and heard all of it. When you returned to your room to go “at least look at some job openings,” Sirius turned to Remus. “Look at you. She’s got you meeting the mother-in-law already, huh?”
Remus replied, “No, it was my request to go and see her.”
Sirius chortled. “What a puppy.”
Remus blinked. “I’m a what?”
Sirius nodded at the doorway, which you’d just exited through. “A puppy. For her.”
Remus replied, a bit peevishly, “I don’t know what you’re talking about, Padfoot. You’re the dog here, not me.”
Sirius laughed. “All right, suit yourself.”
Remus looked over at Sirius. “What about you, Padfoot? Aren’t you interested in seeing anyone?”
Sirius sighed before he reeled off, “Moony, do I have to remind you that I’m a mass-murderer felon on the run, with a huge bounty on my head? Besides that, all the real Death Eaters are after me and would love nothing more than to kill me and sell my corpse for money?”
“Oh. Right.” Remus shut up. He turned to leave the kitchen as well, when he heard Sirius murmur, “Besides, Remus, you got your second chance. But I never did. Marlene’s gone. I’m never going to make peace with that.”
Remus turned back. “Sirius…”
Sirius remained silent.
Remus continued, “You did everything you possibly could to protect her. You even hid your feelings from her, just to make sure the Death Eaters wouldn’t target her - ”
“- And they did anyways, and I wasn’t even there when they killed her,” Sirius finished flatly.
“It could have happened to any one of us,” Remus said quietly. “I know that doesn’t make it any better, but what I’m trying to say is that it wasn’t your fault. Not in the slightest.”
Sirius said nothing.
Remus said cautiously, “Sirius?”
Sirius’ eyes had gone dark. But he merely said, “Don’t worry, Moony. You just take care of your woman, all right? You were always more mature than the three of us – it’s only right that you finally have some happiness.”
Remus looked worriedly at his best friend. He could feel Sirius’ barely restrained fury and behind that, a need for chaos and violence, feeding into Sirius’ already strong tendency for recklessness.
But now you had come down, with a messy roll of half-heartedly tagged job pamphlets in your hand. “Come on, then, Remus. Let’s be off.” You reached out and took Remus’ hand. As you pulled him along, you remarked, “With any luck, my brother will be home, so you can escape with him if things go poorly.”
“You’ve already thought of an escape route for me?” Remus said, chuckling nervously.
“‘Course. Last time she saw you, you were practically naked in my bedroom and you were ogling my breasts right in front of her.”
“I was decidedly not doing that.”
You shrugged. “I know you weren’t, but my mother doesn’t, and she’s the one with all the power here. Hence, you need an escape route.”
Remus sighed, quietly accepting his fate, as you pulled him along and out the door.
*     *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *
However, as soon as you and Remus stepped out of Grimmauld Place, it became clear that Remus had his own plans in mind. “I’d like to go somewhere before we head to your mother’s. I’ll Apparate us there together, if you’ll take my hand.”
You looked at him curiously. But knowing that it wasn’t safe to be standing out on the doorstep of Grimmauld Place for too long, you took Remus’ hand without further conversation.
Remus turned, Apparating, and you followed him, clutching his hand in yours, as he took you to…
“A car rental shop?” You scrunched your nose as you looked up at the signpost hanging above the Muggle store. “Remus, why did you bring me here?”
“I rented a car for us. Just for today,” Remus answered.
You stared at him, amazed. “Uh, why?”
Remus merely opened the door and nodded at you to step inside.
As you went inside, you whispered to Remus, “Is this some front for an Order hide-out or something?”
*     *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *
Ten minutes later, you stared in disbelief as Remus started up the small, tired car – the car gave a little lurch that made Remus frown - and began to drive it out onto the streets.
You had grown up in the Muggle world, after all, so the car was familiar to you, but you could not imagine why Remus wanted to take a car to your mother’s place.
Fifteen minutes later, the car gave a loud blech, and both you and Remus started. Remus gave a somewhat nervous chuckle and patted the driving wheel. “Almost there, just hold on…”
*     *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *
Finally, the two of you parked on the sidewalk outside of your mother’s apartment. The car let out a tired sigh as Remus turned off the ignition. Then, Remus reached into his cloak and pulled out a tie. He took off his cloak, revealing that he was wearing a white button-up and a patchy grey jacket underneath. Remus quickly put on the tie. He brushed his hand through his hair once or twice.
This entire time, you stared at him with wide eyes. Finally, you croaked, “What in name of Merlin are you - ?”
“I simply want to make a good impression,” Remus replied quietly.
You started to respond, but he looked so serious that you bit your tongue which, given your temperament, was quite a feat.
“Shall we?” Remus exited the car. He came over and opened your car door.
You swung your legs out. Instead of getting up, you simply looked up at Remus, studying him. Your head went up and down as you took him in, from head to foot.
Remus blushed, tugged at his tie, and looked away. “We should get going. We don’t want to be late.”
You slowly got out of the car. Remus closed the door behind you and locked the car. The two of you made your way up to the apartment door.
You had barely started to knock when the door flew open – and your brother caught you in a huge hug. “Sis!”
Having graduated from college and started a professional job as an accountant, your brother was now very much an adult. You were amazed to see how much he had grown. I can’t believe he’s all grown up, you thought fondly. Now you had to reach up to pat his hair. Yeah, he’s not so little anymore.
Still, his trademark smile was exactly the same as when he had been a little boy, as he said excitedly, “Long time, no see! How come you were away for so long?”
“Oh…” You paused, thinking through everything that had happened since you had seen him last. You settled for, “I was busy with a few things.”
“Mum says you haven’t got a proper job.”
You rolled your eyes. But then, you admitted, with a sigh, “Well, she’s right.” You looked at your brother and smiled. “But we can’t all be accountants, can we?”
Your brother pulled a face. “I know, I know, it’s such a boring, predictable job. But it turns out that it comes easy to me, it’s good money, and I’ll save up until we’re more comfortable. Then, I’ll think about what I want to do next.”
You reached up and gently patted his hair again. “Well, now, don’t work too hard.”
Remus had been standing patiently behind you this entire time. Just then, he reached up to nervously adjust his tie for the umpteenth time, and your brother caught sight of him. He pointed to Remus and shouted, “It’s him!”
You deftly shoved your brother inside of the apartment before he could scream aloud to the entire flat neighborhood that Remus was a shapeshifter.
Sure enough, your brother cried out, “You were wicked cool! Scary, for sure – but awesome!”
You reached out and grasped your brother’s shoulder. “Tone it down a little, will you?”
Your brother shook his head. “No way! You didn’t see him, but he was a hero! He saved us, y’know, Mum and me!”
Remus was slowly turning tomato red. He put his hands up and mumbled desperately, “No… No, really… Please don’t -”
“Ah. You’ve come, have you?” Your mother entered the room.
“Hi, Mum.” You held up your job pamphlets. “Look, I’ve done my due diligence.”
“And?”
“What?”
“What job did you decide on?”
“Oh.” You glanced at the cover of the first pamphlet. “Uh… Gringotts Bank Teller.”
Your mother’s eyes narrowed. “Is that so?”
“Yep.”
Your mother huffed, “You have to be a goblin to do that.”
You paused. “How did you know that?”
In truth, your mother now had a near encyclopedic knowledge of the Wizarding World, both because she took her job extremely seriously and studied all there was to know about the magical world and also because Arthur Weasley was one of those wonderful people who filled up spaces with the most pleasant, easy-going chatter of the many places and people he was interested in.
Your mother crossed her arms. “You’re not being serious about this, are you?”
“I am!” you said hurriedly. “I swear.”
Remus stepped up to your side. “The truth is that there’s an organization that needs your daughter very much.”
Your mother eyed Remus distrustfully.
Remus continued, “You’ve likely recognized from working at the Ministry that things are… not altogether well in the Wizarding World. And the organization operating at Grimmauld Place is attempting to rectify that, and they rely entirely on volunteers. While it’s not a formal job, per se, it’s quite important work.”
“Hm.” Your mother looked Remus up and down, much as you had done in the car. “Well, that’s true,” she conceded. “Arthur has been telling me about Professor Dumbledore’s efforts to break the truth that the Dark Lord is back. The Ministry doesn’t seem to be taking the news very well.”
You blinked. “Mum, you know so much…”
“I’m the only one left out!” your brother interjected. “Wish I was magical. And a cool beast-man, like he is.” He nodded at Remus.
Your mother paused. “Speaking of…” She came and stood in front of Remus. “You coward.”
“Mum - ” you began.
“You shush. I’m not talking to you.” Your mother stared hard at Remus. “You didn’t tell her what you are.”
“No, ma’am,” Remus said quietly, defenselessly.
“I cannot believe you. You went so far as to be in a relationship with my daughter, and you didn’t tell her?”
“Mum, stop it - ”
“That you would lie to her like that, you awful person - ”
Remus’ face was becoming ash white. He mumbled, almost under his breath, “I- I was wrong. I’m sorry.”
You raised your voice. “Mum!”
“And how dare you be so ashamed of what you are?” Your mother poked Remus’ shoulder hard. “Do you think that you’re the only one who suffers? Most people who are poor bear the difficulties of life on their bodies; most people who are physically tired are mentally exhausted; most people who are mentally exhausted are alienated from society. Yes, your situation was extreme – but how could you let yourself fall so low, Remus Lupin? People call me a wretch, a beggar, even a whore. The only thing that saves me from my own misery is that I don’t let myself believe in it and I don’t let myself become it. But you - ”
Completely fed up, you suddenly jumped in-between your mother and Remus. Turning to your mother, you said furiously, “He saved your life, so I don’t know what the hell you’re going on about! Besides, this is between me and Remus and I’ve decided that I’m fine with it, so who are you to come in and cause problems for us?”
Your mother said quietly, “I don’t want either of you to suffer just because you’re in love. Feelings can fade away, but the truth doesn’t.”
At this, Remus’ eyes flashed up to your mother.
But you were too enraged to notice. “Remus insisted that we come here and pay our respects to  you, but I’ve had it. Come on, Remus, let’s get out of here.” You turned and grabbed Remus’ arm and yanked him out of the apartment.
Your brother called after the two of you, “I still think you were awesome!”
*     *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *
You led the way back to the car, fuming all the while. “I don’t know what she expects, when she goes off like that. Honestly, who does she think she is? She can say stuff like that to me, of course, because I’m her kid, but what right has she got to say anything to you?”
Remus slid into the driver’s seat. “She’s right, though” he said quietly. “She’s only saying things I need to hear.”
“She’s not right,” you said hotly. “And we’re not coming back here until she apologizes. Let’s go, Remus.”
Remus started up the car.
However, on the way back – the car suddenly lurched once more and the drive became extremely bumpy.
“Oh, no,” Remus sighed. “I’ll have to have a look.” He pulled the car over.
You started to clamber out as well when Remus said, “No, you stay in the car. It shouldn’t take long, I hope.”
You waited in the car for ten minutes before you stuck your head out of the window. “Do you know what you’re doing, Rem? Or do you want some help?”
“No, no, I’ve got it. It’s a flat tire, that’s all.”
You waited ten minutes more – “Forget it,” you muttered, and you got out of the car.
You walked over to the tail end of the car. “Sorry, Remus, but I’d rather be out here and - ” Your words died on your lips as you took in the sight of Remus, with his shirt half-opened, sleeves rolled up, hair a right mess, grease on his shoes and pants, a streak of dirt on his cheek, and some type of grim on his forearms, and his tie flung haphazardly over his shoulder. It was rather humid outside, the sort-of atmosphere that gripped the world right before a rainstorm, and Remus’ face was covered in a light sheen of sweat. He looked utterly bemused, with his brows drawn together, as he stared hard at the car tire.
You put your hand over your mouth and fought the urge to break out laughing.
Remus looked up at you. “Sorry this is taking so long,” he said ruefully. “I thought I knew how to do this.”
“Never mind,” you said. “Let me help. I know how to do this.”
“You do?”
“Yeah, my father taught me when I was quite young. That was back when we had a car, and when he was still around, of course…” You rambled on as you replaced the tire with ease. “He loved cars. He used to take broken junk cars and fix them all up. My brother and I would just sit and watch him. Mum would bring us juice and sandwiches. If it was a nice summer day, we’d all sit outside together while Dad worked on his car… There. Done.” You stepped back to review your handiwork. “That should get us back to the car rental store.”
Remus gave you a sheepish grin. “Nice job.”
You laughed brightly. “Oh, Rem, you look a right mess.”
Remus reached up and pushed his now-scruffy hair back from his face. “I’m sure I do.”
You came over and attempted to straighten out the front of his hair. “Ah, what a shame. When you even wore a suit...”
Remus sighed. “What a mess. Everything fell apart today, didn’t it?”
You used your sleeve to wipe the streak of dirt off of his cheek. “Why did you go to the trouble of all this, anyhow? I know you wanted to make a good impression on my mum, but why the car and the suit?”
“Well…” Remus gave a half-hearted shrug. “Isn’t this what a stable, successful man looks like in the Muggle world? A car and a suit?”
“Sure, but why would that matter?” you asked, confused, but tenderly dusting off the shoulders of his jacket.
“It’s only that I – Well - ” Remus cleared his throat. “It’s clear to me that your family loves you, and I suppose I wanted to give them confidence that you’ll be safe with me.”
“Oh…” You paused. He wanted to convince my mother that I’d be safe with him. You stared up at Remus. How… How sweet…
“I couldn’t come right out and say it, not just yet,” Remus murmured, speaking almost to himself now. “Still, I wanted to try to convey that to them. I thought, well, maybe showing that I can be a respectable, decent man – in the Muggle way since they might be more familiar with that – might help them feel more comfortable with me. Especially with your mother. Although, she seems quite knowledgeable about the Wizarding World now, so maybe this was all for nothing. But I wanted to show her that I’m not some half-naked loon tripping over pears and oranges – well, I was – but that’s not all I am - ”
You flung your arms around Remus’ shoulders and kissed him as hard as you could.
Remus started. His hands flew out and he grasped your hips as you all but barreled into him.
Remus Lupin, you wonderful man, you thought, as you kissed him silly. Always so thoughtful…
“Lovely!” Remus breathed out, as you furiously kissed his face all over.
A car passed by just then, and all five people inside wolf-whistled and the driver honked.
Embarrassed, Remus murmured, “Er – perhaps we should – uh – drive back first…”
You and Remus, both a bit dazed, got back in the car.
“It’s quite hot outside, isn’t it?” Remus murmured, wiping the back of his hand across his forehead. “I didn’t realize while I was outside, but now we’re back in the car, I can tell that it’s very humid outside.” He peered out of the window and up at the sky. “Looks like rain soon.”
You nodded, though you weren’t looking out at the window at all. You were staring at Remus, and you watched as a thin sliver of sweat dripped from the side of his face. You hesitated. Humid… Yes, that’s why I’m feeling this way. That’s all it is. Humid. Electric. Feverish… You clasped your hands together and then sandwiched them between your knees. Just the humidity…
Remus drove a little ways, but when the car stopped at a traffic light, you whispered, unable to help yourself, “…Remus.”
“Hm?” Remus looked over at you.
You were staring at him, with your hands clasped tightly in your lap. Your shirt had gone slightly lopsided, catching a bit on your shoulder. But Remus only noticed that for a second, because the next moment, he caught sight of your expression – your brow was furrowed and your eyes had that brilliant sparkle that was your trademark when you wanted something – Remus’ heart thumped –
“Remus,” you whispered again. You lifted one hand and slowly reached over and put it on top of Remus’ hand. “You… You look good in a suit.”
“Oh…” Remus, hardly realizing it, began to lean over to kiss you…
The traffic light turned green.
“Traffic light,” you whispered softly.
Remus started. “Ah, right. Sorry. Must pay better attention.” Your hand slipped off of Remus’ as Remus began driving again.
You hesitated. You didn’t want to be too needy, but your mind was dizzy with a strange sort of fever. You blurted out, “I’m sorry, but could we stop the car behind that tree? Just for – Just for a few seconds.”
“Um, all right.” Remus parked the car in an empty parking lot, behind a leafy willow tree. He made a half-hearted joke, bleating out, “Huh, did we fix the car just to drive another five feet?”
“I suppose so,” you said. You meant to laugh, but the tension was killing you. It’s just that he’s so kind and considerate, and it honestly makes my heart race, and I’d like to be close to him… Please… Rather thoughtlessly, you’d reached out, as if to touch his chest – but you suddenly paused, and your fingers slipped around his tie instead.
Remus, whose knuckles had turned white from gripping his hands into fists, whispered tightly, “Lovely?”
“Remus…”
“What?”
“I like your tie very much, too.”
Remus looked over at you, slightly puzzled. “You like me in a tie and suit?”
You nodded softly, staring at him as though through a haze. “Yes, very much.” You slowly slid your hand up his tie, up his chest…  His warmth… I love feeling his warmth… I want – I want to sink into him. You swallowed hard, though you tried to be discreet about it.
“Well,” Remus said wryly, “that doesn’t bode too well, does it? Seeing as we go around in cloaks most days - ”
You cut him off, with a soft, but quite tight, murmur. “Remus.”
Remus paused. Why does she keep saying my name? I mean, I don’t mind at all. But it sounds like she wants something, only she won’t say what it is. He was suddenly very aware of the fact that you had slid your hand up his tie and were now pulling gently at the knot. He wondered, is she trying to get my tie off? Remus’ gaze traced your hand, then your arm, up to your shoulder, then to your face… His eyes met yours.
Oh. The realization hit Remus all at once.
Remus’ mouth suddenly became very dry, and his heart leapt into his throat. He heard himself say, in a cracked, uncertain voice that barely sounded like him, “Would you – Would it be all right if I kissed you?”
Your eyes brightened at once, but, almost in contrast, you nodded solemnly.
“Yes…?” Remus whispered hoarsely.
And then, that blessed word fell from your lips, “Yes.”
That was it.
You both leaned towards each other at the same moment, and your mouths crashed together in a heated kiss. At once, shy but needy whimpers escaped both of you. You kissed each other feverishly, both of you turning your heads to slot your mouths together perfectly.
In that moment, all there was in that run-down little car was the tender hum, emitting from that feverish, lion-like, yet all too quiet passion that flows from our very cells when we are with our other halves.
After a long while, Remus’ hand slipped up the back of your neck (making you shiver most wonderfully) and his fingers slipped into your hair, as he pressed your head softly towards his, to kiss you deeper. You were straining slightly to breathe, as you were having to learn over the middle compartment box, but you did your best to hide it because you didn’t want to separate from Remus even an inch.
But Remus, who had brought up his other to caress your cheek, paused – for the back of his hand had brushed past your chest, and he realized how hard you were panting.
In a soft, deeply protective voice, Remus breathed out, “Come here.”
“Hm?” you murmured, still too busy kissing him. But suddenly - “Oh!”
In one swift motion, Remus grasped you and pulled you over. You gasped slightly as you suddenly found yourself in his lap.
“Better?” Remus murmured, and he leaned forward to grasp your hair again and kiss your neck rather roughly.
“Ah… Yes…” You clutched onto his shoulders and tilted your head back for him.
As he kissed your neck all over, Remus murmured, “Is this what you wanted, Lovely? Is this why you were complimenting my tie?”
“I really thought you looked nice in it,” you said softly. “But – ah - ” you gasped softly as Remus bit your neck gently – “Mm, yes, this is what I wanted.”
Having your confirmation, Remus moved with more intention now. His hands traveled down your body, feeling your breasts and then slipping down your curves, feeling your soft tummy, and then grasping gently at your hips.
You moaned, and you moved your hips softly, instinctively reacting to his gentle, loving touch.
A soft pitter-patter sound began to fill the car, as the skies finally succumbed to the weight of its gathered tears, and let the rain fall gently onto the humble earth.
Remus was kissing you lower and lower, until he greedily yanked up the front of your shirt and buried his face against your breasts. You gasped, and you hugged Remus tightly around his shoulders, holding onto him as much as you could. Remus used one hand to fist the front of your shirt and keep it out of the way. With the other, he pushed down your bra, and then, bending his head down, he pressed his open mouth against your sweet breasts.
“Uhn…” You closed your eyes and lost yourself to the sensation of Remus lavishing you with his mouth. Oh Godric, his mouth feels so good on me.
“Lovely,” Remus whispered in a raspy voice, “open your mouth a little.”
“Huh - ? Mmpfh!”
Remus had gently but decisively stuffed your shirt into your mouth, so that you could hold it up and out of the way. This left Remus free to press his hands against your back, so that he could push you forward slightly against him, and this allowed him to kiss, suck, and bite your breasts even more lovingly.
“Mm!” you gasped, and the sound came out quite muffled.
Remus’ mouth was so hot and wet, and he was sucking and biting your breasts all over, and he was holding you so that you were anchored to his lap, and you could hardly squirm.
“Mmm…” Remus moaned long and loud. Lovely’s gotten softer, somehow, he thought adoringly.
Sharing the driver’s seat together, and with Remus being rather tall and lanky, the two of you were cramped together. Remus could feel every little breath and move you were making. He felt how your legs tightened on either side of his when he bit softly at your breasts, and he could feel your tummy buckling when he ran his tongue in wet little circles around your nipples.
The fact that this space was so confined meant that it was very hard to move, and slowly but surely, a deep, feverish desire bloomed inside of you, responding joyously to the love that Remus was giving you, but also responding impatiently to the constraints of this tiny space. Soon, the fever had spread to the top of your head to your toes and you were bursting with the need to kiss Remus back, to undress him, to feel his warm skin on yours, to taste him, to have him inside of you – anything, any movement, any release – please!, you begged in your head.
Finally, with a loud, breathless gasp that made your shirt fall out of your mouth, you tugged Remus’ head back up again and you aggressively kissed him once more. Your hands slipped off of Remus’ shoulders and onto the driver’s seat behind him. Grabbing that, you pulled yourself closer to him and pressed your hips into him.
Remus breathed out heavily, and his hands fell to your thighs. When he leaned in to kiss you back, his hands steadily slid up your thighs.
You mumbled something that Remus didn’t catch and between kisses, he whispered to you, “What?”
“I said I wish I was wearing a dress,” you murmured back. “Or a skirt.”
You felt Remus’ lips curve up as he chuckled softly. “Is that so?”
You wiggled your hips slightly, hoping that Remus would get the message and slide his hands further up.
Remus kept his hands resolutely still, and he murmured to you, “Why? What are you imagining?”
You were now shifting back and forth quite obviously on Remus’ lap – yet he still kept his hands exactly where they were, in the middle of your thighs.
You groaned wantingly, “You know what, Remus John Lupin.”
Remus kept that soft smile on his lips, as he whispered teasingly, “My full name?”
“Yes, because you know,” you said accusingly. You bit down on your lower lip and let out a frustrated sigh. “…You know I have a a thing for your hands. And I… I like when you touch me.” You blushed as you admitted, “I always have.”
Remus gazed up at you, admiring your blushing face. “Is that right?”
“Yes,” you insisted. Reaching up, you gripped the back of his hair in your hands as you fidgeted on top of his lap, shifting your thighs this way and that, still hoping that his hands would slip up your thighs…
When Remus refused to budge, you groaned and let your head fall forward onto his shoulder. You tugged a bit at his hair as you muttered, “Mean.”
Remus let out a quiet laugh before he acquiesced. “All right, all right.” Finally, he slid his hands up, letting his large, warm palms move up your pants.
Lifting your head up, you hurriedly reached down with one hand undid the front button of your pants.
Remus whispered, “Why are you in such a rush, Lovely?”
In a rush? You blinked rather stupidly, for in all serious, you didn’t think you were in a rush. Rather, you didn’t understand why everything was taking so long. Why aren’t Remus’ hands on me already? you thought desperately.
But you’d already given one embarrassing confession, and you didn’t feel that you were due for another so soon. So, you managed to mumble out, “Um, don’t we have to return the car by five?”
“Ah, I see,” Remus said lightly. He let his hand brush tantalizingly between your legs as he whispered, “The car…”
“Y-Yes,” you mumbled, your voice catching when you felt Remus’ hand brush up against you. “We’ve got to return the car. Be responsible – Mm…”
Remus, finding you irresistibly cute, leaned forward and kissed you again. You started to wrap your arms around his shoulders, when he pulled back slightly to say, “And who was it that made me stop the car in the first place, hm?”
“Oh…” You looked down. Even knowing that Remus was teasing you, you felt embarrassed. Yes, it wasn’t just the humidity, was it? you thought. It was pouring rain now, but you were feeling more flushed and wanting than ever.
Remus watched you as you steadily became pinker and pinker in front of him. Oh, Lovely… Look at you, he whispered adoringly in his head. But you know, don’t you? That I want you just as badly, if not more.
At that moment, you sighed a little. Then, you turned back to Remus and said, in a low voice, “All right. I want you, Remus. I… I couldn’t wait.” You bit your lower lip again, before you continued, “And I would appreciate very much if – if - ” Your brow furrowed as you struggled to voice what you wanted to say. You burst out, rather intensely and rather ungracefully, “Don’t make me wait! Not when I want you so much.”
Remus blinked. He’d forgotten how your voice became low and raspy when you were all pent-up and wanting like this. Besides that, your reaction was much more genuine than he had intended. I was only teasing her a little. But Lovely’s so serious. She must… He swallowed hard. She must really want this. Even more than she’s letting out. She’s starving for me to touch her…
“I want you,” you repeated feelingly.
Well, I can take care of that, Remus thought. Before he knew it, he had pushed his hand into your pants and he was pressing his long fingers up against you, touching you through your panties.
Remus heard you inhale quickly and your fingers tightened in his hair.
Remus leaned forward and caught your mouth in a kiss. Yes, I can take care of you, Lovely, he said stoutly in his head, declaring a promise to himself. And I will. I won’t keep you waiting ever again. He pushed his hand further inside of your pants, until he slotted his hand firmly between your thighs. Only heaven and hell can ever know how much I want you too, my love.
You shuddered against him. “Ah… So warm…”
“Mm,” Remus breathed out, as he rubbed his hand against you.
You moaned softly as you felt that wonderful, warm pressure between your legs and against your panties. “Uh…”
Remus hugged your waist with his other arm and whispered lowly, “Just so you know, I’ll happily pay another day for this car, if it means I get to take my time and enjoy you.”
Your breath hitched – and Remus’ fingers lithely pushed aside your panties and pressed down on your bare clit –
O-Ohhhhh… Your hands slipped out of Remus’ hair. One slipped onto the window, and the other fluttered about in the air until you finally found the dashboard to hold onto.
“There you go,” Remus murmured, pushing his fingers in tight little circles against your clit. “Getting all warm and wet, mm, good girl.”
“R-Remus,” you blurted out – and then you let out a soft, but desperate, open-mouthed moan as Remus leaned forward to kiss the side of your neck softly while he touched you.
You didn’t know if Remus was aware of this, but he had a tendency to cage you in and pin you down when he got lost in the heat and pleasure of it all. Sure enough, the more fervent your gasps became and the more your hips bucked against his hands, the more Remus leaned forward, until he was all but pinning you down against the steering wheel.
You leaned forward at first, trying to even out the balance. But when Remus finally pushed aside your panties with a quick brush of his fingers and then pressed his warm hand directly against your bare pussy, your mind went beautifully blank for a second and you leaned back entirely.
HONNNNKKK!
You both jumped – and you hit the top of your head against the roof of the car – “Ow!”
“Lovely!”
“No, it’s fine, I’m fine. It’s just… the stupid car horn.”
Remus sheepishly hugged you back towards him, so that you weren’t leaning against the steering wheel. “Oh, right. Forgot about that.”
“Well, forget about it again,” you murmured, and you began to kiss his neck.
Remus moaned softly, and he let his head fall back against the driver’s seat.
You let out a soft growl and you bit and sucked at his neck. Your hands found his shoulders and you held onto him as you buried your head against his neck. At the same time, your thighs, positioned on either side of his, squeezed tightly, and then you gently rolled your hips forward against him. At the same time, with your mouth still latched onto Remus’ neck, you let out a hard pant, and Remus felt your warm breath puff across his neck.
Remus’ heart gave a leap when he felt you push up against him like that. His eyes opened, and his hands shot to your thighs.
Remus continued to let you have him, kissing and biting at his neck all over, making sure he knew – both now when he was feeling your sweet mouth on him and later, when your soft love marks would bloom brilliantly all over his neck – that he was yours.
Remus was more than happy to let you take your time in kissing him so sweetly and marking him as yours, but he couldn’t merely sit still. He had to touch you, too. He had to. His hands slid up to the insides of your thighs and he made to touch you again, only you were pressed up too close to him. Not wanting to push you away, yet needing to touch you, Remus made to push your thighs open more, but the space was too small, and your knees pushed up against the car door on one side, and the middle compartment on the other. Remus let out a noise of impatience.
You paused. “Something wrong?”
“No, it’s only – Well, if I could only touch you,” Remus murmured, with his words all tumbling out in a soft waterfall. “Could we perhaps move to the back seat?”
Before you could even make sense of his words, Remus had lifted you slightly. Realizing what he wanted, you quickly clambered over into the backseat and Remus followed after you.
As soon as you turned around, Remus pushed you gently but hastily down onto the seat with a rough, needy kiss.
“Ah…” You moaned against his mouth, and your hands came up to his chest, to help steady him, while Remus’ hands had already found your waist to hold onto as he tumbled into the seat after you.
Remus was quite greedy with you, sinking into you quickly so that your thighs had to spread to make room for his hips. His hands slipped off of your waist, and he put one hand down on the seat to keep from collapsing on top of you, but with his other hand he touched your face lovingly, brushing your cheek with his thumb repeatedly while he cradled your face.
You closed your eyes, losing yourself to the wonderful sensation of Remus holding you and kissing your neck all over. Everything was so perfect – except for that growing ache between your legs. “Since we’ve got a bit more space now, might you - could you – um – could you maybe – ah…” you stuttered out, as Remus sucked hard at your neck.
“Hm?” Remus replied rather nonchalantly as he left a soft flurry of love bites all over your throat – his reply, as it were, to tell you that you were his.
“Ah!” You trembled and your hips bucked softly, and it took you a minute to pull yourself together before you managed to whisper, in a wanting, yet dreamy voice that sounded much the same as it had many years ago, when the two of you were curled up under the Ravenclaw tapestry, sharing your dormitory bed: “H-Hands. Want your hands on m-me.”
Remus nodded. He began to reach down and slide his hand back into your pants, when you suddenly grabbed his wrist.
Remus paused and looked down at you, wondering why you were grabbing him like that. You stared up at him and whispered, “…Inside me.”
“What, Lovely?” Remus murmured. “Say it again.”
“Fingers…” Your hand slipped down and you gently traced his fingers with your own, as you breathed out, “…inside me…please.”
Remus breathed out. He lowered himself to gently press his forehead against yours. “You want my fingers inside of you, Lovely?”
You nodded fervently, and you guided Remus’ hand to quickly slip into your pants.
Remus smiled, adoring the way that you were asking for him. He brushed aside the thin slip of cloth covering you with the back of his fingers, and then -
“Ah...” You shut your eyes tightly as you felt his fingers push gently inside of you. Your hands came up and you gently held onto the sides of Remus’ jacket.
“Mm,” he whispered hoarsely. “So tight, sweetheart.”
Remus burrowed his fingers deeper into you and then curved them slightly inside of you, pushing you open just a bit.
“Uh!” Your thighs trembled and you squeezed Remus’ jacket tighter, with your hands bunching up into fists. Your stomach tensed, and your head came up for a moment, as a tight pant escaped you.
Remus slipped his other arm around your shoulders and, gently pulling you up, he hugged you to him.
You hugged him right back and you buried your face in his shoulder and moaned as Remus fingered you harder.
You grasped messily at the seat and blearily made your way up until your head was resting against the window. But Remus followed you, until he had you caged right where he wanted you – against the window, and very much in his arms.
Mm, Remus thought, loving the feeling of your warm, wet walls squeezing his fingers. All tight and sweet, my Lovely…
And as he pumped his fingers inside of you steadily, you slipped back down slightly, until your face was pressed up a little against Remus’ chest. You tried in vain to prop your feet up against the seat or the floor, but Remus’ hips were resting between your thighs, and besides, he was touching you quite fervently now, and you didn’t have much strength left in your legs as your thighs squeezed against his hips and your toes curled in your shoes.
In desperation, you reached out and sought solace by hugging Remus and gripping his jacket in your hands and moaning deeply against his chest.
Remus felt your hot breath on his chest. He bent his head down and gently nudged your head with his, bringing your face up, and then he caught your lips in another kiss. You kissed him back, but then Remus thrust his fingers into you – you cried out and fell back. And when Remus chased you for another kiss, you panted out, “Ah – W-Want - , B-But c-can’t, Rem!”
Remus paused. He hadn’t noticed until now how hard he was squeezing you into his hug, making you pant quite hard while he finger-fucked your pussy deeper and deeper. A sheen of sweat was on your forehead, and your face had gone all pink. Remus also realized, for the first time, how tense your thighs were and how tight your grip was on his jacket.
“Oh, Lovely, are you close?” Remus breathed out, surprised.
“Nngh – Of course I am – Are you – Are you teasing me?” you half-panted and half-mumbled out, almost indignantly.
Remus smiled softly at you. He replied, earnestly, “I wasn’t teasing.” In his head, he thought, Though now I want to, seeing how cute you are like this, Lovely…
While he was gazing at you, his hand had paused. And you couldn’t stand it. More than anything, you needed him to keep going. “Rem, don’t stop, please,” you begged suddenly. You reached down and grasped his wrist needily. “I – I am close. Please don’t stop.”
“All right. Just… shush. I’ve got you, Lovely.” Remus worked his fingers back into you – deep and somewhat roughly – and he watched your mouth drop open and the flush on your cheeks turn even more brilliant.
“Oh, Godric, yes, right there,” you breathed out heavily. “Ah, ah, ah…!” Your hands pattered down his arms furiously and then – you scrabbled a little at the front of his shirt before you managed to yank his shirt out of his trousers so that you could grip it – right as that incredible tension began to coil up in your tummy.
Remus could feel your pussy spasming all around his fingers. “So tight,” he hissed lightly. He could only imagine how tight you could feel around his cock… He pushed his fingers back into your wet little pussy harshly, and you gasped, “Ah!”
Your back arched – Remus hurriedly tugged downwards at your waist, to keep you anchored against him, for he wanted to feel you cum for him  – and your thighs trembled heavily all over and then – “Uhnnnnn…!”
Remus moaned with you, as he felt you release with his fingers still buried deeply inside of you.
Desperately pushing your hands against the window and the seat, you lifted yourself just enough that you could clamp your thighs together, drawing Remus’ fingers even deeper inside of you as you came all over his hand.
Remus groaned. Her sweet cum… Mm… I want it. His eyes flickered up to you. You had your eyes closed, and you were panting furiously. Your shirt was caught just above your bra, and Remus watched the way your tight little body moved as you fought to catch your breath. I want her, Remus thought. I… want her so badly. All of her.
“Sweetheart,” Remus whispered.
“W-What?” you breathed out. “Do – Do we need to return the car?”
Remus still kept one arm around you, but with his other hand, he gently pulled down the front of your shirt. As he did, he replied, “I suppose. But that’s not what’s on my mind.”
You opened your eyes and looked at him. “Huh? What do you mean?”
“I want to take you to bed,” Remus said, and he lifted his hand and slowly sucked at his fingers. “If you’ll let me.”
“Oh. Oh.” Your heart jolted happily.
“To do that, I suppose we have to return this car first, though I have half to mind to drive straight to Grimmauld Place right now.”
You stared at Remus with wide eyes. He’s so assertive. Has he always been like this?
Remus paused. “Unless… you don’t want to, of course.” Just like that, his gentlemanly demeanor returned. He reached up and quietly fixed your hair for you.
“That sounds like a wonderful plan,” you said finally, smiling at him.
“Okay, then.” Remus gently helped you to get back in your seat.
When you had clambered back into his seat, Remus paused.
“Wha – Oh! I’m so sorry,” you said, when you noticed the small wet spot you had left on the front of his trousers.
Remus chuckled. “Don’t apologize, sweetheart. I’m the one who made you like that, after all.”
You stared hungrily at Remus. Oh Gods, if he keeps talking like that, I’m not going to be able to stop myself.
Remus looked over at you. “What?”
“Let’s… get going, please,” you said, and your voice nearly cracked with want.
Remus nodded. “All right. And I’m sorry to stop there, but – well, for what I’d like to do with you, the car simply isn’t big enough.”
Your heart skipped a beat – and your pussy thumped. You slotted both your hands between your legs and squeezed them. In a small voice, you whispered tightly, “Um, if you speed a little, I won’t tell.”
Remus laughed lightly, but his eyes were serious and his entire body was quite tense as he hurriedly drove the car back to the shop.
You waited outside for him. When Remus came out, you held your hand out and said, “Rem - ” By then, he had already grabbed your hand and Apparated back to Grimmauld Place.

Breaking Point: A Bill possessing Kenz Oneshot AU
Tw: Demonic Possession, Suicide, Blood, Gore, Psych Wards, Emotional and Physical abuse, Shitty Parents, Spiders, Fires, Drowning, Shock Collars, attempted (but not succeeded) animal abuse, and Dogs in heat.
This Oneshot is really long. I’d break it up, but I want to separate it from the rest of my So Much For Stardust fanfic.
The house settled down as the garage door closed. I breathed a sigh of relief, settling down on my bed. It was bright and early in the morning. Way too early to be awake. My parents and sisters had left for the airport to spend at least two weeks in Mexico. This left me in charge of the house. I took a sip of water and immediately passed out on my mattress.
I blinked awake, finding myself in familiar surroundings. The anti-suffocation sheets. The crappy mattress. The constant checks from the door opening. I was back here. My head spun. No no no no. I stood up, stumbling on my legs as dizziness flooded my body.
I curled up on my bed, trying to soothe myself. I’ll get out of here soon. I’ll get out of here soon. I’ll get out of here soon. The curling up turned to thrashing as I yelped and screamed.
My eyes opened. Grass itched at my skin. Foxtails dug into my pants. Dirt littered my hair. The sunny sky filtered through the trees. I breathed a sigh of relief, smiling as I recognized my childhood backyard. I had dug a hole, filled it with grass, and fallen asleep in it.
A snake slithered across the ground, flickering its tongue. I crouched down to catch it. I leaped forward, only to misjudge the distance and hurtle down the hill. For several tense moments, I was in free fall. My body crunched on a bunch of jade plants, causing me to blank out.
I opened my eyes once more. I was in my yard, my current yard. I was in the little den of bushes I sometimes hung out in. I was in my sleeping bag, drenched from sprinkler water, but not necessarily cold. The blazing sun overhead caused my mouth to dry. I realized what I had done. It all happened so fast. I only wanted to calm down from another heated spat from my dad. But he took me laying on my bed as noncompliance. The worst of all crimes. He grabbed my arm and shoved me outside into the back yard. He threw my backpack and sleeping bag out. Furiously, I took them into the bush to hide from his anger.
My dad trudged through the mud and leaves, his ice blue eyes blazing. He walked up to me, his figure quivering with rage. “Get your lazy ass off the ground and stop acting like a fucking homeless person!!!”
This whole thing was your idea. I held my tongue, fearing even more backlash. “You want to end up in the fucking hospital?”
Those were the magic words. I stood up, hanging my head low. I put my things away and got in the shower, washing the mud from my body. I noticed the mattress taken out of my room. “How long before—“
My dad glared at me, signaling that this was irrelevant. “Now we’re going to put you to work at the property.”
But it’s so fucking hot out. I panted, dressing in a short sleeved top and shorts. Dad took a drink of his beer. Mom walked up to dad, talking to him. “Jacob. It’s 99 degrees out. Kenz doesn’t need to be working in this weather. She’s already showing some signs of heat exhaustion from laying outside.”
It’s true that my cheeks were flushed a bright red and my body ached with each step. But I didn’t feel hot. In fact, and this was because I got out of the steaming hot shower, I felt cold. The moisture on my skin, however, was sweat, as I had dried myself off.
What Dad was about to do shook my entire perception of him. He held his hand high, as if ready to swing. Fear and rage at the same time burned through me. Without thinking, I intercepted the blow, being shot across the room. Blood trickled from my nose as the room went dark.
I woke up back in my bed. There was no evidence of the slap. Nor was there any evidence of heat exhaustion. I walked out of my room, only for Dad to angrily walk up. “You want to end up like your mother?”
“NOO!!” I screamed, finally having enough. Without thinking, I swung my hand at him. He blocked the attack and smacked me in the face. I ducked down and launched myself at him, screaming at the top of my lungs. He shoved me against the wall, causing some crunching noises to sound from my chest. I screamed a blood curdling scream, but to no avail.
The scream caused my eyes to open for real. There was pawing at the door to my room. I stood up, trying to calm myself down from the sudden night terror. I opened the door, finding my Dudley lab Penny wagging her tail and giving me that dumb blonde expression. She’s not really my dog, she’s the family’s dog. But I’m in charge of taking care of her for the next two weeks.
I tried to hold back the tears as I let the lab outside. Taking my mind off of the dream of violence, I grabbed the frisbee. Penny tippy tapped, wiggling her but. I froze, unable to hold back the tears any longer. That’s what Brodey used to do when he wanted to go outside.
“But you’re not Brodey.” Sometimes, I swear that whenever I’m in the yard, I can hear Brodey rushing through the bushes and leaves. This only intensified once Penny came to live with us. The dreams were the worst part. Dreams where Brodey had never died. Dreams where Brodey was alive, but only I could see him. I missed that fox red coat. Those kind brown eyes. The white star on his chest. His greying muzzle and legs. His scent and the way he would barge into my room, letting me know everything was gonna be okay.
But that was gone now. And what stood in his place was Penny. And despite every effort I made, I felt nothing. Not a connection. Not the same fluttering in my chest whenever I was with her. To me, she was just another dog. I love labs, don’t get me wrong. But Penny seems distant. Probably because she was my aunt Shari’s dog before she was ever my dad’s.
I walked back inside, making myself some Eggo waffles for breakfast. The intense dreams from the night before flooded my mind, clouding my brain. I grabbed my laptop and phone, turning on some music and started working on my AI class. The class that was half interesting and half mind-numbingly dull and boring. But my dad insisted that I took it.
I got a phone call from my dad. Reluctantly, as if flashing back from the nightmares, I answered it. “Hey.” I chuckled sheepishly.
“How you doing, Kiddo?”
“I’m fine.” Totally not. I rubbed my temples and sank deeper in my bed. “Have you boarded yet?”
“We’ve landed. I want to tell you how much I love you. Also, Jose is going to check on the AC to see what’s going on with it today. So can you put Penny in the kennel when he’s doing that?”
“Okay.”
“And don’t keep her there to make it easier for you.”
“I won’t.”
“What are you doing?”
“The AI class.”
“I better not see you on that Bill Cipher AI shit.” I rolled my eyes, gritting my teeth. “I’m not.”
“I can check your browser history. I’ll have Jose turn the WiFi off.”
Then how the fuck am I supposed to do my class? Once again, I held my tongue. “I won’t screw off, Dad.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.” I hung up and closed my laptop, the screen causing a headache. Whispers echoed in my ears, which wasn’t uncommon when I was home alone. But it was nonetheless unsettling. “Who’s there?”
Kill yourself. Kill yourself. Kill yourself…
“That’s a new one.” The voice was familiar and taunting. I grabbed my laptop and phone, moving out of my room to the living room. My dad never liked it when I stayed in bed all day anyways. I turned on the TV to drown out the whispers in my ears. I took a deep breath. I’m not gonna watch YouTube. I turned on The Owl House, needing to catch up on it. A few episodes went by before I felt myself nodding off. It was in that moment where I had realized that I hadn’t taken my morning medicine. Fuck!!! I tried to stand up, but I was too groggy to leave the couch. Fine. You win exhaustion.
I blinked awake, seeing the front door wide open. My heart pounded in my chest, causing me to bolt upright in the couch. A tall blonde man with yellow eyes wearing a yellow suit sat on the couch, taking a sip of his martini glass. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY HOUSE?!!!” I screamed, standing up, only to be brought back down by a flick of the man’s wrist.
“Just sit yourself back down, Zie Zie.” The voice from before. My head throbbed. My mouth was dry. I gazed the man in his yellow eyes as he walked up to me. “B-bill Cipher?”
“Ding ding ding!!!”
“But you’re not real. None of this is real.” My heart pounded in my chest, signaling me to run. But my legs and body were frozen to the couch. “This house is haunted, kid.” He took another sip of his martini glass. “Haunted by many ghosts. And also haunted by me.”
It was then when I noticed the translucence in Bill’s form. Almost as if he himself was a ghost. “I’ve seen Gravity Falls before. Shouldn’t you be dead?”
“It would seem so.” Bill laughed. “But we both know that it’s canon that I crossed over to your world. I’m not frozen to a simple statue. I’ve been haunting people for years. Especially you.”
“What?”
“Ever wonder how come you scream yourself awake at times? Why I’m in your dreams so often?” Bill creepily caressed my face. His touch was cold and his claws nicked my skin. Blood dripped from the cuts his claws caused, staining the couch. I yelped, knowing that this was all a dream.
“Aww. Are you scared? Trying to scream yourself awake? Trying to get away from me?” Bill laughed, sitting right next to me and leaning on me. His breath reeked of alcohol and his body smelled of the most dizzying cologne. “What are you doing?!” I screeched, squirming at his predatory grin. “I’m here to offer you a deal. You’re put in a precarious situation. Kid of the house. Surely you’re gonna start hearing the voices of the ghosts of the house.”
“Ghosts? Is this house really haunted?”
“Haunted as fuck. Why’d you think your dad got a good deal? Why do you think you hear doors sometimes slam?” Bill finished his drink, stretching his arms and putting one around my shoulders. “I can show you them. All I need is for you to do something for me.” Bill pulled out his cane from nowhere and put it on my neck, forcing me to look at him. “All I need is a simple deal!!”
“NO!!!” I screamed, buckling against him. “LET ME GO!!! LET ME GO!!!”
“LET ME GO!!!” I booted awake on the couch, panting and covered in sweat. I bolted to my room and took my morning meds, taking a shower to wash off the scent of sweat. I checked the time. 11:30. Jose is supposed to be here around 2. I sighed, putting on a snake tshirt and jean shorts. I turned off the TV and made my bed, putting my laptop and phone away. I went outside, feeling the baking heat on my skin. I overflowed Penny’s dish with water and hosed her off with the hose. I breathed a sigh of temporary relief, throwing the frisbee for the hyperactive dog. Penny was in her first heat, so I had to hose off specks of blood on the porch. I groaned as I grabbed some water, hearing a loud door slam. It’s just the wind. It’s not like ghosts were real. That dream was just a dream.
Yet I found myself running my fingers down my cheek. Sure enough, there were jagged scratches that were as deep as my fingertips. I bolted to the couch, seeing some blood. I groaned in frustration, realizing the mess I had to clean up. I must’ve scratched my face on the zipper when I was tossing and turning. I chided myself, putting the soiled couch covers in the wash. I grabbed some bandages from my bathroom and put them on the cuts. I grabbed my laptop, looking up if I should super glue the cuts shut. Nope. No wounds on the face.
I put my laptop away, deleting the question off my browser. The door knocked. I checked the time. 2:00. It’s not a ghost. There’s no such thing as ghosts. Or Bill Cipher.
I put Penny in the kennel and let Jose in the yard to investigate the AC situation. I heard another door slam, as whispers echoed through my mind once more. Take the deal. Take the deal…
My head throbbed as I turned up the TV. Suddenly, the room heated up tenfold. I was gasping for breath in the frantic heat. I bolted to my room, getting changed into a rash guard and swim trunks. I went into the front yard and hosed myself down, panting heavily in the heat. Jose walked up, looking triumphant. “I found the problem. There was a wire chewed by the dog.”
“Oh. Haha.” I put the hose away and smiled as Jose replaced the wire. He went back to his truck as I let Penny out of the kennel. Penny looked up at me with a quizzical expression, as if wondering why I was soaking wet. “I was hot. So I hosed myself down.”
Penny went back to her usual dog antics as I went inside the house (not before drying off outside so that I didn’t track water in.) The sun had set for the evening, causing me to let Penny in to keep away the coyotes. I put a towel down for her to sit on as I turned on a Disney movie to calm my nerves. I made myself some tortellini for dinner, and didn’t think anything else of the night before taking my meds and going to bed.
I woke up the next morning to the sound of pawing at my door. I opened it, seeing blood on the ground. Groaning, I cleaned it up with a wet paper towel. Penny whined at me and nuzzled me as I cleaned up the mess. “You gotta go outside.” I turned and faced her, noticing a giant raccoon hanging from her mouth. I reared back and screeched, terrified of the corpse. Its legs were torn off and its entrails were sticking out. I put gloves on and put the creature in the trash, then did a deep bleach clean of the house. Penny must’ve eaten the limbs, as I hadn’t found them anywhere in the house despite spending half the day looking. I let Penny back outside, then bolted to the toilet and vomited. I showered myself off, trying to wash away the corpse stench. I heard my phone ring as I got out.
“Hey McKenzie.”
“Hey dad.” I yawned, taking my meds. I decided then not to tell him about the disgusting raccoon incident. “So turns out, Penny chewed the cord to the AC. Jose fixed it. It should be working now.”
“Oh.” Dad sighed. “How are you holding up?”
“I’m doing fine.” I lied, my voice quivering. “Are you sure?”
“Yeah. Just dealing with nightmares and shit. Nothing I can’t talk to Jackie about when I see her. Hey, have you seen my wallet?”
“It’s wherever you left it.” I groaned, realizing that I was on my own for this. “Okay. I just got out of the shower. I’m gonna go eat breakfast.”
“Why were you in the shower?”
“I’ve been waking up really fucking sweaty and stinky.” I lied. The truth was much more horrifying than that. “Anyways. Love to the kids. Hope you catch a big fish.”
“Love you too.” Dad hung up as I put on a tshirt and shorts. I rubbed my temples, my head stinging. The thought of ghosts haunting the house itched at the back of my mind. But I kept telling myself that ghosts weren’t real.
The day went on as I continued working on my class. I ate some Mac and cheese for lunch, and made myself some top ramen for dinner. I had curled up in bed, letting the dog in but making sure I had closed the door so no raccoons could get in. I rubbed my temples, took my meds, and went to bed.
My mouth moaned all on its own as my body sat upright. I was half dazed, too groggy from my night time medicine to panic of my body moving on its own. Trapped in my own body like a puppet on a string, I gazed at my eyes in the mirror. They were a bright electric blue without pupils, and my skin was a ghostly white. I tried to get control of my body back as it proceeded to walk itself into the avocado orchard that circled my house.
It sat down, grumbling under its breath something along the lines of “why does the only one in the house have to take such debilitating meds? I can’t get anything done.” It stumbled around, collapsing in the bush of roses. My eyelids closed as I couldn’t stay awake any longer.
I blinked awake, covered in thorns and cuts and my body splayed out on the lawn. The morning dew on the grass was stained scarlet with my blood. My arms were covered in itchy mosquito bites. I stood up, feeling cold and shivery. I walked back into the house, noticing fluff everywhere. Upon further investigation, I realized that Penny had torn apart her bed. Biting back some curses, I let Penny back outside, overflowed her water again, and cleaned up the mess she made in the house. I made myself a bowl of cereal and then took off my clothes, checking the cuts from my possession. There were thorns and sticks, but they weren’t too deep in my skin. I dampened a towel with hydrogen peroxide and cleaned up the cuts, wincing. I bandaged up the cuts, then addressed the twigs and leaves in my hair. I picked them all out, only to feel a prick on my finger.
“Son of a bitch!” I rinsed out my hair in the shower and found a massive black widow wash down the drain. “Well that’s fantastic.” I checked my phone for the time. 7:30. Yeah. My dad would be awake. It’s 8:30 there. But would he be in reception range?
I grabbed my phone, calling my dad. “Hey Kenz.”
“Hey Dad. I’ve got some bad news.” I could practically feel dad’s glare through the phone. “So I was taking Penny for a walk last night, and didn’t take a shower until this morning. I went to go wash my hair and I felt a sting. Yeah. Turns out there was a black widow in there. FUCK!!! OWWW!!!” I started to feel like I was gonna puke. I bolted to the toilet and threw up in it. “Oh shit.”
“What should I do?”
“Kenz, I would wash it and put it on ice. Then I would call Noni and have her take you to urgent care. Grandpa almost died from a black widow bite when he was five.”
“Thanks dad… I feel like shit.” I hung up and called Noni. “Hey Noni. Can you take me to Kaiser Urgent Care? And can you call Mom to get my insurance shit? I got bit by a black widow.”
“A black widow?”
“Yeah, it was in my hair.” I laid on the floor, holding back the urge to vomit again. My body spasmed from cramps. “Ah. Fuck… It hurts…”
“You should call an ambulance.”
“Is it that bad?” I threw up in the toilet again. “Alright. I-I’ll call an ambulance. Can you get someone to keep an eye on Penny for me?”
“Yeah.”
And so I proceeded to call an ambulance, describing my situation through bouts of vomiting and muscle spasms. The emergency crew wheeled in, helping me on a stretcher. I called Noni to let her know which hospital I was taken to.
Upon arriving, I was hooked up to an IV. Noni arrived with flowers and doughnuts, holding my hand as the sedatives kicked in. I was eventually discharged and given orders of bed rest. Noni drove me home and helped me to the bed, where I instantly passed out from the drugs.
I woke up to the sound of barking. My body was too sore and groggy to respond, so I turned and went back to sleep. I heard a knocking at the door, which caused me to get up.
It was the dishwasher guy, who my parents had called because our dishwasher was no longer working. “H-hello…” I grumbled, opening the door for him and sitting on the couch. “I just got back from the hospital. I was bit by a black widow, so I’m kinda on some medication that should wear off eventually… If you need anything, just call my parents and if they ask you to wake me up to tell me something, do it. I probably won’t be too happy, but…” I yawned as the dishwasher guy went to work on the dishwasher. Immediately I dozed off.
And woke up to the sight of a golden triangle with one eye, a bow tie, and a top hat. His arms and legs were pitch black, and he had a cheerful look in his eye. I immediately recognized him. “Hey Bill.” I snarled as Bill sat next to me.
“I tried to warn you about those ghosts, Nightshade.” Bill held the spider bite on my hand. He rubbed my head in a way that sent chills down my spine. But I was in no state to fight back. “That wasn’t a ghost. I was sleepwalking.”
“You were possessed.” Bill sat on my chest, causing sleep paralysis to set in. Fuck fuck fuck!!! Come on, toes. Come on fingers!!!
“Stop denying the fact that your house is haunted.” Bill patted my head. “Your parents know it. Your sisters know it.”
“What did you do to them?”
“Oh! I wouldn’t hurt a hair on their heads!!!” Bill pulled out his cane and dragged me to the ground, forcing my head upright to gaze into his eye. “Your entire life was haunted from the day you saw me for the first time.” Bill ran his fingers down my hair. “I mean, let’s face it. You were never really normal, weren’t you? Always had to stand out. Always getting into trouble. Your parents never helped you.”
“Yes they did! They did everything in the world!!!” I bit back at more curses. “Oh really? Then ask yourself this. Why was it every time they ‘helped’, everything seemed to get worse? Why was it that you almost have no friends? Why do you feel like you wanna die all the time? Why do you almost have no social life?” Bill turned around, freeing me from his cane and disappearing.
I bolted upright awake, hearing the dishwasher guy work in the kitchen. I pulled out my laptop, my mind running at millions of miles an hour. I searched across the web, looking for signs that my house was haunted. I felt a tap on my shoulder, then turned around to find nothing there. I was sweating, shaking and sick to my stomach. I cleared my history and closed my laptop, turning on the TV.
The dishwasher guy came out of the kitchen, sighing. “There’s a part that’s broken. But they don’t make that part anymore. It’s best to replace the entire dishwasher.”
Shit. I sighed, texting my parents more bad news. “Alright. Thank you.” The dishwasher guy left, leaving me alone in the house. I stared at the black widow bite, feeling drained and out of it. I decided then and there that I should start getting ready for bed. I let Penny in, and immediately fell asleep on the couch.
The sound of tearing woke me up. I yawned, noticing more cotton on the ground. Another dog bed was torn up, fluff scattered everywhere. I shouted curses as loud as thunder, then cleaned up the entire place yet again. It was barely even midnight.
I placed the shock collar on Penny, grumbling on about how if Brodey were still alive, none of this would have happened. “Oh. It’s always Brodey this and Brodey that.” A voice chided in my ear. “What kind of dog owner are you? Never caring about the dog you have now.” The voice was louder, and obviously Bill’s.
I couldn’t take it any more. I bolted outside, climbing up a tree. I sobbed in the tree, sweat and blood pooling on my palms. I slipped and fell, landing on the ground. Everything went dark.
I awoke to my phone ringing. I answered it, seeing that it was my dad. “Hey, kiddo. How’s Penny doing?”
Penny? “What about how Kenz is doing? They were just bit by a spider.”
“Penny is…” I stumbled up, my arm bent at an awkward angle. The door to the yard was gaping open. I bolted in with my phone. There was blood on the ground, as well as cotton and fluff. I entered my room, seeing a mess of half my plushies torn to shreds. “No no no no.”
“What?” I bolted into the living room and saw a gaping hole in the couch. “Dad. I’m sorry. But Penny chewed up the couch. And some of my plushies, but the couch is a mess.”
“WHAT?!!”
“Penny. Come outside…” I pushed her outside and locked the door, my heart pounding in my chest. “Dad. I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry. The meds had me all fucked up, and Penny chewed up her dog beds. I tried my best to take care of her. I took her for walks. I gave her water. I fed her. But she wouldn’t calm down. She just kept ripping things to shreds.”
“How much time were you on your laptop?”
“What?”
“I bet you were never bit by that spider after all. You spent those days looking at Bill Cipher AI.”
“NO!!! ITS NOT TRUE!!!”
“And you cleared your history to cover your tracks!!!” Dad’s biting words cut through the phone. “Alright. The first thing I need you to do is unplug the WiFi router. I’m coming back from Mexico to pick you up because you can’t be trusted.”
“Dad!!! No. I can handle this!!”
“All you ever do is fuck around on your laptop. How many dog beds have been chewed in my care?”
“Zero.” I panted, shaking in fear. “I’ll be flying in tomorrow and you’re coming down with me.”
“Dad, wait—“ He hung up as the colors faded from the room. I gazed at Bill, who was calm. “Well well well. Someone’s looking desperate to prove themself.”
“What?”
“I can help you kid. You just need to hear out my demands…”
“Fuck… Okay. Just tell me what you want. I’ll do anything. Just prove to him that I took great care of Penny.”
“Why should I just stop there?” Bill held out his hand in a glowing blue flame. I shook it, gazing into his eye. “So, what are you gonna—“
With a swift jerk of Bill’s wrist, I was flung out of my body, forced to stare as it moved on its own with a pair of glowing yellow cat eyes. I gasped, realizing what had just happened. “AHAHA!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!” Bill showed me my phone, which showed no calls from my dad. It also showed that the date was 7/29/23. The day before my dad and family would come home.
My heart ran cold. “The call was real all right. You were just drugged and possessed the entire time you were home.” Bill stumbled around. “The ghosts kept this body in stellar, as you would call it, condition.” Bill laughed, shoving sticks into my arm. Blood puddled from the wounds, pouring on the ground. “Fuck. These arms are durable.”
“W-we had a deal!!!”
“Sorry kid. You were getting way too close to figuring out some major things in your world. This wouldn’t be the first time I had to clean up the supernatural mess.” Bill laughed, puppeteering my body around. “I’ll stop you!!”
“But how?” Bill grinned a mile wide, playing five finger fillet with a stick in the yard he had sharpened. He stabbed straight through my index finger. “Hahaha!!! Oh shit. I’ve never had someone this sensitive to pain to toy around with. This should be fun.”
“No no no no no!!!”
“Hahahaha!!!” Bill rushed up the hill to the living room where Penny was sleeping. He poked her gently over and over again, then teased her cheeks. He spread his legs out and tapped Penny on the snout. Penny did the play bow and started barking. Her butt was in the air, wiggling. “Penny girl!!! That’s not me!!!”
“But she’s not Brodey either.” Bill grinned. “So why should you care? Or are you suddenly jealous that I can bond with her better than you EVER WILL!!!”
“I… I…”
“I-I-I what?” Bill grabbed a ball and threw it. “Come on, pupper!!! Let’s go!!” Bill tied a leash to my arm and attached Penny to the other end. He walked her outside and threw the ball for her, causing her to bolt down the hill with my body hurtling down. My left eye was stabbed with stinging nettles and my right eye was stung by a bee. The wind was knocked out of my body as it threw up. Bill laughed, sitting up and punching the ground with my arm. Penny gazed on in terror, watching Bill chase a skunk that had gotten into the yard. He tackled the skunk as it sprayed him. My body vomited again and again. It was only bile, as I hadn’t remembered the last time my body had eaten.
The skunk rushed off into the bushes as Bill rushed after it. Penny stood between Bill and the skunk, growling. “Move, mutt!!!”
Penny shook her head, ears down and whining. “Do I have to punish you?”
Seeing my chance, I entered Penny’s body and just as Bill was about to lay hands on her, I snapped her jaws into my skin. Bill shook the arm over and over again, flinging Penny to the other side of the yard.
I was flung out of Penny’s body, and could only watch on as my arm laid limp and bleeding. Thankfully, Bill had turned his attention away from Penny, and turned to the skunk instead. Doubly thankfully, the skunk had long since fled.
Bill sighed, stumbling around and climbing up a tree. He hurtled my body off of it, causing it to land on an awkward angle. Bones crunched as my arm was turned upside down. “Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!” Bill somehow managed to puppet the shattered arm, laughing with each movement causing my body immense pain. Blood poured from the arm, mixing with the dirt to create mud. Broken bones stuck out from the arm, making it look like one of those bats that had nails hammered in. The arm had bleeding holes poked through it like Swiss cheese. It was barely being held together.
“What else can I ruin?” Bill limped on, carrying a sharp stick. He approached Penny, and just as he was about to swing the stick into her chest, my body had froze. “What?” Bill tried swinging the arm over and over again, but to no avail. Penny whined in terror, frozen in place.
“This dog means nothing to you!!!”
“But it means everything to my sisters and dad.”
“Are you seriously gonna let yourself be bossed around by them your entire life?” Bill snarled. “Think about it!!! Your dad dragged you outside, screamed in your face, and forbade you from talking to your gran. He takes away all your electronics on a whim despite you being a legal adult.”
I possessed Penny again, hiding her in the chicken coop. I locked her up, then appeared in front of her. “Penny. I’m sorry. But Bill’s trying to kill you as a plot device. I don’t know how he works, but I know my body is preventing him from hurting you.”
It was then I saw a translucent fox red Labrador gaze up at me. “Brodey?” But just as quickly as he appeared, he was gone. My heart ached, knowing that Bill was getting closer now. “Fuck. If o can’t hurt dogs, then I guess I’ll have to settle for something else.”
I floated out of the chicken coop, noticing Bill corner a tortoiseshell cat. But my body had seized up in a similar fashion as it did when he had cornered Penny. My heart soared in my chest. Perhaps my overflowing compassion for animals prevented my body from doing any harm to them no matter what had possessed it.
“Damn it!! I guess I’m forced to only torture this body!!” Bill turned around, hunched over like a stalking cat. He entered the house, grabbing Penny’s shock collar and remote. He put the collar on and pressed the remote, shocking my body over and over again until it was on its knees. Bill laughed, grabbing a lighter and burning lines on my skin. He shoved my broken arm into the oven and turned it on, closing the door and heating the arm several hundred degrees. The smoke detectors sounded as Bill took the arm out of the oven and turned it off. It was on fire and seared to the bone. Bill turned on the sink with the other arm and doused the fire before the house set alight. He stumbled around, smiling and laughing. “Hey. What’s this dizzy feeling I feel? Oh well. I guess I have to push this vessel a little more.”
Bill rushed up the stairs and turned on an ice cold bath. He carried several bags of ice up the stairs and into the tub. He forced my body into the ice cold tub, holding it in there until my lips were blue. He dragged my body towards the other tub upstairs, turning it on until it was well overflowing. He forced my body under and forced it to breathe in the water. Finally having enough of that, he exited the tub, barely able to stand.
“Bill!!! What are you doing?”
“I guess I can prolong the suffering of this puppet.” Bill snapped his fingers as my arm scarred over horrendously and was bent at awkward angles. There was no more water in the lungs and the frostbites have scarred over. Bill rushed around the house, chugging a bottle of vodka until blackout drunk. He snapped his fingers again so that my body was only mildly tipsy. Bill pricked his finger and started writing with the needle of blood on a piece of paper a long and elaborate note which read “Pain is hilarious. Too bad this body can’t do much harm to others. I can’t seem to mold past its compassion and empathy. Oh well. All the burning and drowning and freezing in the world cannot compare to the grand finale I have planned for this vessel. Back to my old favorite. Stabbing. Best of all, Zie Zie’s ghost will haunt this world forever, and everyone will think they lost their mind. Well, they did. They were pushed so hard that they burned into the sun like Icarus. Maybe 77 will treat those under his care better now that his PDA autistic brat is gone.”
“BILL!!! STOP THIS AT ONCE!!!!” I begged, trying to stop him from stabbing the knife into my shin. Bill gazed at me, writing on the other side of the sheet of paper in my own hand writing “IT’S BEEN TOO FUCKING HARD SINCE BRODEY DIED!!!! NOW YOU WILL LIVE WITH THE PAIN FOREVER!!!!”
“Bill!!! Bill!!! We had a deal!!!”
“Yes, but you were pretty vague. You wanted to see ghosts. Now you’ll become one for all eternity.” Bill stabbed my shins, bleeding my legs dry. He snapped his fingers and the wounds scarred over. “Besides. I didn’t lie on that note. It seems pretty accurate to how you’re feeling right now. You tried your hardest to keep the dog alive. To live up to your dad’s expectations. You were left home alone for two weeks, got yourself bit by a spider and almost died, and spent the rest of the time in a haze of possession. Your father knew the house was haunted, like you should have, he turned a blind eye. He made a deal to keep Cameron and Dylan safe.”
“But what about me?” The words hit me in the gut. “Aah. He figured you could handle yourself. You always had, after all. Besides, you were trouble enough already. At least Cameron and Dylan had it easy. Dylan’s developing ADHD and it’s all your fault. You traumatized your family with your anger and actions. Your father knows it. Your step mom knows it. And your sisters know it. And you never took responsibility.”
I shook, tears running down my face. “You were bound to die from your own self inflicted trauma eventually. Whether you did it to yourself or someone kills you in the psych ward. And would your dad have cared? Would anyone have cared?” Bill circled me, filleting off pieces of my arm on the ground. “And don’t act like you weren’t planning on killing yourself when your parents were gone either. You were going to cut yourself open. You were going to drug yourself. I’m only doing you a favor and sparing you the pain. All while having a little fun in the process.”
Bill cut a triangle over my right eye, the blood trickling down my face. He gouged the eye out with the knife, throwing it across the room. He carved his image into my back over and over again, cauterizing each triangle with a top hat with the lighter. He broke into the kitchen cabinet, and took a pill bottle out. It was a pill bottle filled with an old dose of my sleep medicine. “You wouldn’t!!!”
“You were already planning it!” Bill took half the bottle, then wobbled around in a daze. He laughed as he took the knife and cut my wrist open. He stumbled around, stabbing the knife into my mouth and cutting out my tongue. He stabbed my stomach, carving it open. Entrails and gust splattered on the floor with blood. My body collapsed, eyes rolling back with a crooked smile on my face being the last thing I ever did.
Bill leaped out of my body, watching my fervent attempts to return to it. I tried to make it move, but realized that there was no bringing it back. All the wounds that Bill had inflicted had opened up. The fifth degree burns. The frostbite wounds. The water in my lungs.
Penny bolted into the house, whining and frantically licking my body’s face. Tears blurred my vision as I noticed the soul of Brodey joining in. Frantic licks tried to rouse me, but to no avail. I grabbed the knife, washing it off and putting it back. “What are you doing?”
“Not giving my sisters any more trauma.” I grabbed my body, weakly dragging it away. Bill shoved me off my body as I reared up to fight him. “Come on!!! We both know my dad’s not gonna let them get therapy for this. He never lets anyone get therapy and… and…” The words were caught in my throat. Bitter rage flooded through me, bringing tears to my eyes. My body started to turn cold, as the blood stopped pooling out of it. It was at that moment where I noticed that my body was wearing the Bill Cipher sweater. “Why did you put that on?”
“You had it on when you went to sleep. You seemed to admire my image so much that you branded me in your clothing. You bonded with that sweater. The funny thing is, that’s how I was able to possess you so easily.”
“My dad’s gonna sue Alex Hirsch for this.”
“Yeah. I thought so. He’s willing to exercise power in all the wrong places. He’d neglect you at the drop of a hat if it weren’t for your disability.” Bill rubbed my head as I bit his hand. “Ouch!!!”
“Don’t fucking touch me!!!”
“Kenz. You’re not gonna hurt me by doing this.” Bill tugged his hand back, wiping the blood off of it. “Oh and by the way, I’ve been waiting a long time for this. The only ghost haunting your house was me. It helped that you kept putting me everywhere. Taping my image to your walls. Buying your pocket watches. I haven’t seen someone this pathetic since Sixer. But you were gonna break away eventually. Once my book came out and you screamed yourself awake enough times to tell your therapists. Couldn’t have my favorite puppet setting themself free so easily.”
“But I’m dead… Doesn’t that mean I’m free?”
“You’re trapped in the mindscape like me, Kid.” Bill smiled. “Sure you can’t enter the nightmare realm like I can, but you haunt this world for all eternity. You can’t even enter heaven or hell. Your soul will never rest. You’ll be forced to watch everyone die without a chance to see them again. And when I break into your world, I’ll make you mine. After all, I own your soul now.”
I shook, grabbing the gravity falls journal three. “Are all these ghosts caused by you?”
“Only in your world. You have a particularly powerful soul. You’ll be worst than that Courderoy fucker. But it’s not like you actually have it in you. At least, not anymore. Knowing you, you’ll probably travel the world and the galaxy. And only animals can see you. Of course, you can haunt dreams and possess objects. If you dare to lay a single haunt on Hershey Bar, I’m going to disassemble your molecules. Just kidding. Haunt him all you want. I’d just love to see you do it.”
I gazed away from Bill and my body. “Will my parents ever know that you did this?”
“Nah. But why should you care? If they found out, then I’ll have to kill them. And I won’t let them off as easy as I let you off. I’ll kill them and absorb their souls.” My heart lurched in my chest. “You won’t know peace. Everyone will forget you. And you’ll be forced to watch. When a soul enters heaven, the only way they can disappear is if everyone they have ever known has forgotten them. Sinners don’t have that, restriction. But let’s be real. You would’ve ended up here no matter how you died. Not heaven nor hell would have taken you. And no one knows why.”
My heart lurched in my chest. “You’re a freak. The only human soul that doesn’t fit in heaven nor hell. At least in this dimension.” Bill turned around, twirling his cane. “In the end, it’ll just be me and you.” He snapped his fingers as he disappeared.
The garage door opened as Dad walked into the kitchen. His blue eyes clouded as I turned away. Unable to bear my father’s regret, I floated away from my house. I’m sorry.
“Too late.” Came Bill’s reply.

Just a quick fanfic from ages ago.
The grass was wet, he noted. But she didnt seem to mind, laying there and just moving her hand about where the fireflies would gather. She would draw her hand lazily through them, watch them disperse just to come back again.
He cleared his throat as he approached, but she didnt look over at him.
"Was wondering how long you were gonna stand there."
"I wasn't sure you wanted company." He muttered. "It has been a rather...weary week for you."
"Mm." Raine sighed. "Word travels fast."
"Small town, my dear. It doesnt take much to get the rumor mill running."
"Yeah well maybe they should just mind their own damn buisness."
He raised an eyebrow and watched her wave an irritated hand at a firefly.
"I see." Elliott rubbed the back of his neck. "Well, I suppose...I shall leave you to your musings, then."
He had turned to leave but he caught her lunging forward to sit up, scattering the lightning bugs all around.
The look she held on her face worried him, and the internal struggle seemed to take all her focus. Perhaps she wasnt aware of the expression that strained her already thin features, but for a moment he could see past the facade.
He didnt step away like he intended. How could he? He pulled a sigh in through his nose and moved closer and she had turned away from him.
"I'm sorry." He nodded at the apology, wincing as he pulled his jacket off to lay it on the wet grass. Yet another victim to the undergrowth, he cursed.
"I understand, Raine. You needn't get upset."
He sat next to her, smiling as the fireflies sensed the calm again and floated close.
"They always talk about him." Raine finally muttered, picking at the grass. "I hear Lewis bitching to Marnie about it but no one is willing to help."
Elliott nodded again, looking out past the cliff. He heard about the whole thing from Willy, but the old fisherman was good about glossing over the fine details.
"I haven't spoken much to Shane myself." he admitted, "The man is rather...abrasive."
"Hes an asshole."
He looked at her with a raised eyebrow and she shrugged.
"I suppose he is." He leaned back with a sigh. "Are you two close then?"
She barked a laugh, "No, no not at all. He used to come to the farm all the time when i was a kid and chase me around with foxtails and pull my hair and stuff."
A screaming little Raine in dirty overalls and messy hair. He couldnt help but smile.
"We had an old horse named Lucy that would chase him off the farm."
"She sounds protective."
"Lucy was short for Lucifer. Grandpa couldnt break him of biting so he just used him as a guard dog instead. He was fond of going for the butt."
Elliott tried his best not to laugh but when she started he couldnt resist.
"I feel for him." Elliott chucked, wiping a tear from his eye. "I'm surprised you two didnt garner a close friendship later."
"He would only be here for a summer. But I guess things didnt turn out so good." Raine leaned down and picked up a beetle. "Marnie isnt really his aunt, she was just a family friend I guess."
"Ah."
A comfortable silence fell, and Raine leaned back to lay on the grass again. Elliott watched as she raised her hand up towards the dark sky.
"There's a heaviness in the Valley, you know?" Raine muttered. "Its been weighing on me since i got here."
"Is it the valley, or just the burdens we bear?"
He caught the sad smile.
"Probably."
"You dont need to bear them alone, Raine." Elliott said, leaning over her. "I know that perhaps i dont have Shanes... Illustrious history with you, but you've become one of my closest friends. I want you to be able to come to me if you need anything."
He frowned as her lip trembled ever so slightly, and to save her embarrassment he sat back up.
"Ill...take you up on that."
