✨NOT SAFE FOR PHOTOSENSITIVE PEOPLE!!!✨ The shopping trolley icon to buy the premium with x3 the resources keeps flashing non stop, despite the number of emails that I've sent
164 languages (all of which get equal treatment, the vocab given for Irish is the exact same vocab provided for French. Minority languages are actually given equal treatment here)
99 topics from colours to software vocab that I don't even understand in English (I am moronic when it comes to technology)
Audio lesson recordings, where it explains the whole topic to you verbally
Interactive quizzes w/listening, spelling, reading comp and matching exercises
Speaking practice. Everyone always underestimates the importance of actually being able to speak the language.
THOUSANDS of flashcards
Review option where it says the word in target language while showing the written of the word in 1st + target language => great for active recall when making notes
Here's some visual examples
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And all of this is in the free vocab section. The common phrases and verbs section require a subscription (even though there are several sections on verbs in the vocab section) but my word of advice is, take what's free. There is SO much content available for free. THOUSANDS of vocab words per language, with all of the above resources applied to each and every one of them. And there is NO AI!!! If this app is safe for you use, take advantage of it. If it's not safe for you to use, that's not fair for you, you deserve better and people should use a bit of common sense when they're coding to make it safe for you.

i’m not sure if anyone else is aware of this yet—i just found out today—but dot languages has started restricting the amount of articles you can read (per week i believe?) without a subscription. personally, i think the 11USD/month fee is worth it for how frequently i use the app and how useful it is to me, but i know that not everyone can afford that (about ~130USD/year) cost, and as someone who has frequently recommended the app and spoken positively of it as a great free tool for improving your chinese, i think it’s important that i make a post letting people know about this change.

but on the topic of language learning apps some i used include
Drops - made by the same people at kahoot, more of a vocabulary app than learning actual grammar but it has a lot of options, free version lets u do 5 minutes every 12 hours. If you want to learn more than one language what i did was download the individual language apps (u can either just download drops for all languages or drops (specific language) ie drops spanish for just spanish) and use different accounts. i also took advantage of the free trial cuz its fun but i do think the 5-10 minutes a day thing works fine to create a doable habit
Beelinguapp - This one requires a subscription i dont remember how much you can do without one but i have an android so i just downloaded a modded apk. edit: i forgot to elaborate when i posted this but its practicing reading / listening by reading stories and articles
Mango languages - this one is a lot different than duolingo but still good, its essentially based on learning by hearing / speaking a new language than just learning vocabulary and writing sentences. It requires premium BUT if you have a library card you can check if your local library lets you use it for free (this isnt guarenteed unfortunately but i think it is more common in bigger areas), there are also some free endangered languages
Memrise - Like the name implies this is mostly an app for memorizing words and sentences, using flashcards. Theres official courses but users can make them too so you can use it for more than just language learning if you want to. I think if you used this with mango languages it would be helpful to get practice writing phrases & words in a way you dont get to with ml. Apparently theres a pro subscription but i have no idea whats different & a lot of people say the free version works just fine
Ling - Havent used this for very long but its almost identical to duolingo but with more languages, its basically premium only but once again i use a modded apk
Some more specific stuff
Lifeprint - ASL w/ videos and its all free! a very good resource even if you arent looking to learn
Tagalog.com - Free resource for tagalog you just have to make an account
If you have resources for specific languages or anything in general id love to hear, this is all just from someone who has had a casual interest in language learning
Also if you have an android you can download modded apks of a lot of paid language apps. Just be safe (use adblock) and smart, not all apks are actually modded or theyre too buggy to be worth it, so pay attention to the reviews. The paid apps are often very nice but the prices are ridiculous. everyone deserves the chance to learn. I dont know if theres ios equilivants (although i wonder if theres a way to run apks on your pc through something like bluestacks)

Hi, I've seen you mention that you're learning Hebrew in Duolingo, and wanted to let you know that in January Duolingo fired most of their translators in order to replace them with AI. I'm not telling you you shouldn't use them or anything, nor do I even know if that switch ever actually happened - I can't find articles newer than January, I just wanted to let you know it's possible not all of the lessons were actually translated by humans and there may be inaccuracies. I stopped using Duolingo to learn Hungarian bc of it but unfortunately I haven't been able to build up a habit w anything else... Mango Languages seems good though and it's free if your local library partners with them, if you do want to look into an alternative
unfortunately, i've heard about this. however, also unfortunately, i bought a year's worth of premium in december. i've set it to cancel next december, and until then i'm going to keep using it. after then i'll probably be good enough to move onto using intermediate level textbooks and/or just talking with native speakers.
it's obvious to me that all the translations are AI, especially because sometimes it wants me to translate something into english and it wants me to phrase the english sentence in a way that no one would ever phrase it, or it rejects a translation i made on the basis of word order that's completely acceptable in english.

Hi, I followed you for your fic and I saw you had some posts about having ADHD.
I'm also ADHD, could you tell me about your writing process? I get stuck with things staying in the notes app and they don't really get past that stage.
I'm not sure if it's an interest thing, if the notes fulfill the want so there's no need to put it together. If you have anything thoughts about how to keep up the consistency for fic that'd be appreciated.
Hopefully this isn't too serious of a question, I just have some trouble with wanting to write but not having a purpose for it and I was wondering if that was a brain thing/relatable.
Thank you in advance for any response ☺️ also good luck with your uni stuff~
thank you anon! and dw this isn't too serious at all. i think it's interesting that you ask about keeping consistency bc ironically the biggest tell of my adhd in my writing is my INCONSISTENCY, as you can see with the way updates happen. i wrote 200k words of taob in one year and now i update twice a year on average. i wrote 60k words of tams within a few weeks and now it hasn't been updated since july. and these are just my public projects where i at least have the added pressure of knowing people are waiting for an update, you should see the state of some of my original wips! basically my point here is that my adhd is VERY apparent with my writing habits, but these days i work with it instead of trying to fight it. even before i knew i had adhd, i was aware that my writing came in periods. id go a few weeks churning out insane amounts daily and then dry up for months on end, and each time id enter the 'have i lost it??? will i ever write again???' spiral until low and behold, something would inspire me again and id be back to typing like a madman. i used to seriously fight my dry periods bc of that fear of 'losing' my writing, but that never helped and honestly turning writing into a need instead of a want probably made it worse.
it's one reason - aside the fact it is rude and annoying, i dont want to pretend it isn't or put the blame on me bc that's not what im saying here - that constant demands for fic updates bother me so much, bc people dont realise that the writing style i have now where yes we unfortunately go long times without updates is actually how my writing comes out at its best standard. so yeah! it can be incredibly frustrating and even scary to feel physically unable to write, but if it's something you like and want to do i do truly believe it'll always come back sooner or later, or at least that's my experience :)

lol the other day i told my pt i always use my knee brace at work (3x 4 hour shifts a week, sometimes less) bc if i don’t then i’ll be in significant pain and she told me off for it bc i’m “relying on it” too much and it’ll make my muscles weaker and make things worse in the long run. and when i said “i understand that so i don’t use it all the time. but you told me to use it when i’m in pain or standing/walking a lot.” she said “i only meant to use it right after our last appointment because you were in a lot of pain. only use it when you’re in extreme pain” and i said “but if i don’t use it Then i’m in extreme pain. idk what you want me to do” and she literally said “okay” in her “defuse the aggro patient” voice and moved on. like truly these people do not give a fuck about your day to day quality of life they only care about your long term statistics
