Discharge Petition for H.R. 7152, the Civil Rights Act of 1964
Record Group 233: Records of the U.S. House of RepresentativesSeries: General Records
This item, H.R. 7152, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, faced strong opposition in the House Rules Committee. Howard Smith, Chairman of the committee, refused to schedule hearings for the bill. Emanuel Celler, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, attempted to use this discharge petition to move the bill out of committee without holding hearings. The petition failed to gain the required majority of Congress (218 signatures), but forced Chairman Smith to schedule hearings.
88th CONGRESS. House of Representatives No. 5 Motion to Discharge a Committee from the Consideration of a RESOLUTION (State whether bill, joint resolution, or resolution) December 9, 1963 To the Clerk of the House of Representatives: Pursuant to Clause 4 of Rule XXVII (see rule on page 7), I EMANUEL CELLER (Name of Member), move to discharge to the Commitee on RULES (Committee) from the consideration of the RESOLUTION; H. Res. 574 entitled, a RESOLUTION PROVIDING FOR THE CONSIDERATION OF THE BILL (H. Rooster taps his hands together as he waits for Maverick to arrive. He was told to wait outside the room until his uncle was there, his leg bouncing, he could hear the recruits talking inside and he tried to control his nerves.
Why was he nervous?
There was no reason to be nervous.
And yet he was.
He runs his hand down his face, the coldness of his wedding ring hitting his skin until he reaches his chin, looking down at his watch to check the time and sighing heavily through his nose. His leg is still bouncing, he leans back against the wall and crosses his arms, then uncrosses them, then props them on his hips because he doesn’t know what to do with his hands.
He tries to remember Beatrice’s words during their short yet meaningful text message, she believed him, she knew he’d do good and he didn’t have a reason to be really worried. It was his uncle, he knew Mav, he knew how he was…he didn’t have to worry.
He looks up when he hears a pair of boots approaching him, Maverick’s bright grin greets him as he holds the clipboard to his side, “Hey,” he says, “Have you been here long?”
“No,” lies, “Just a few minutes,” it’d be nearing twenty if he counted the time he stood around pacing.
“Good, good, so,” Pete flips through the papers on the clipboard, “You are used to this, right?” Bradley nods, watching his uncle lazily thumb over each page to check something that the younger pilot couldn’t see “Yeah, your fanboys are here too, ready?”
“Yeah.”
“You need a few seconds?” his godfather teases, “A moment to breathe?”
That just makes Rooster playfully glare towards his uncle, chewing the inside of his cheek to hold back the snarky reply “Just get inside,I’ll be right behind you.’ that earns a gentle punch to the shoulder from his uncle, who walks around Rooster into the room where the sound of chairs scraping and people saluting Pete could be heard.
Bradley stays by the threshold, partially hidden, watching from the edge as his uncle stood in the center of the room, telling everyone to relax and don’t worry too much. Rooster’s eyes followed his uncle as he paced around a bit, gesticulating but he couldn’t hear what was being said.
When he was younger, he remembers Mav doing the same thing with his hands whenever he spoke about the Navy. He loved those talks because Mav was always so open about it, anything he asked his uncle had a reply.
Until he didn’t.
And Bradley breathes in again because he didn’t need that right now, he didn’t want that right now. He watches for a while longer, brows furrowed and jaw set tight, “Relax,” he whisper to himself, “Relax Brad, it’ll be fine.”
You’ll do fine! We love you!
And that memory was enough to bring a smile out of him.
He sees Mav turning to look at him and that’s his cue. He mentally prepared himself before stepping into the room, the scraping of chairs - alongside the loud gasps coming from three specific individuals - made him stand up a bit straighter. He takes a quick look to the group, six men, four women, with the known trio being in the first seats.
He shouldn’t be surprised.
“Oh my God!” McAllister looks ready to burst when he tries, poorly, to keep his voice down, but him alongside his friends were just too giddy. There’s some murmuring amongst the others who didn’t know who he was but saluted him just the same.
“Lt.Bradshaw will help me in this.” Mav sounds almost proud, looking over at Rooster with a grin, “After all he was with me when everything happened.” Bradley sends a small smile to his uncle, standing straight as a rod next to him with his hands behind his back, chin turned up just enough, “Any questions before we start-”
“Oh! Oh! M-”
“Any questions that aren’t from the Trio in front.”
The three men sheepishly lowered their arms, only for a guy behind them to raise their hand, “I have one, sir.”
“Of course, John. What is it?”
Rooster flicks his gaze to John, who was around his height, a buzzcut with a small nick on the edge of his scalp showed that his hair was very dark. He looked to be in his late twenties, no facial hair, “If I may ask, I heard you two were related.” Both Maverick and Rooster shared a look, “Uncle and nephew.”
“Ah,” Maverick’s eyes darkened a bit, “That doesn’t have anything to do with what we are doing here, John. Next question.”
“But I-”
“Next question.” Maverick’s light eyes shoot daggers into the young recruit who just shuts up and sinks back into his seat. Maverick smiles then, relieved, “Very well…Rooster, ready?”
“As ready as I can be.”
And that was all that Mav needed, because he started explaining the mission. Was that legal? Bradley wasn’t sure considering how very hush hush it was back then, but his uncle had a very charismatic way of explaining things, just like when he was talking to the Daggers three years ago.
Bradley let him speak, first and foremost because that was his task right now, he just watched in silence. Sometimes feeling like an eight years old boy hearing his uncle’s amazing adventures in the Navy.
-
“And then-” Bradley gasped from the grass, watching as Pete swooped his hand down, like a fighter jet only to briskly turn it the opposite way and above his fist “I avoided them!”
“That..is so cool!” his nephew throws his hands up in the air, “You are so cool uncle Mav!”
Maverick chuckles, gently ruffling his blonde hair that was getting darker…resembling Goose’s hair color more and more, “Ah,kiddo, I try.” he smirks, looking up at the tv and then sighing, “You think your mom got home yet?” Bradley looks back to where the sun was - he learned how to check time like that in school!-  and then shrugged.
“She said she was going to take a while today, so I dunno.”
“Eh,it’s fine, want some ice cream?”
Bradley’s eyes shone with excitement, “Before lunch?”
“The best time to have it.”
“Yes!” he stood to his feet quickly, slapping some blades of grass off his denim shorts and watches as his uncle did the same, “I want chocolate!” Mav made a sound as if to say he knew that’d be his choice even before he said anything. Bradley’s shirt moves a bit with the wind as they look to where the ice cream stand was, What are you going to get, uncle Mav?”
“Me?Oh…vanilla.”
“Boring!” Maverick’s eyes flashed at the memory of Goose repeating the same sentence, enjoying his cold treat in the corner of a stuffy room, the two of them tired and exhausted and- “You should get strawberry swirl!”
“Strawberry swirl, huh? Alright, I’m game. Oh,also, remember,” Bradley looks up at him with his brown eyes in question, “If your mom asks-”
“We had salad for lunch!” he pulls out something from his pocket, a napkin with the name of a restaurant Carole loved so much, “I saved it up from last time.”
Pete couldn’t help the amused laugh that leaves him, gently ruffling his nephew’s hair, “Smart boy.” he lets Bradley walk up to the ice cream stand first, he already knew how to act and what to do, Carole was raising him well the best way she could.
He knew she wouldn’t like to hear some of the conversations they had, she always asked Maverick to keep the conversations about the Navy to a minimum because Brad was old enough to ask things and to wonder about his father.
But his line of thought is broken when his nephew comes back, holding both ice creams in his hands, “I paid!” he says proudly, licking some of the chocolate ice cream that slides down his wrist while holding out the vanilla cone to his uncle without looking up at him.
“Thank you Brad.” Maverick stares at him, “Brad. Brad.”
-
“Lt.Bradshaw.”
Rooster’s eyes snap to where Maverick was, his uncle had his brows furrowed and his lips pursed in a question, flicking his gaze from Rooster to the group of officers staring at both. Bradley inhales, briefly looking over at the recruits while clearing his throat, “I’m sorry, what?”
“I asked if you had anything to add.” Mav says, “From the mission, anything you’d want them to know?”
Bradley licked his lips “Oh,uh…” he blinks a bit, trying to regain his thoughts while chewing his lower lip, “I think it’s the main thing to remember is that we are all a team. And if you have a good leader, you’ll achieve a successful result for the mission.” he explains, not seeing how Maverick smiled proudly at him, “And it helps if you get along with the people you work with.”
John, from before, suddenly lifts his hand, “I have a question?”
“Is it pertinent to the conversation,John?”
“It’s a curiosity, sir.” he says casually, dropping his arm to the table, some of the other officers turned to look at him, “For Lt.Bradshaw.” Bradley arches his brow but nods, thinking it was something to do with the conversation, “How long have you been in the Navy, sir?”
“Over ten years.”
“Did you start young?”
Bradley’s jaw tics a bit at the question, but he didn’t want to assume anything yet, “I started after I finished college.” he says quietly, not looking at Maverick when he says it. John just blinks, about to ask something else but Bradley cuts him to it, “University of Virginia, in case you are wondering.”
John nods with the response, parting his lips to say something else, “Did that help you during your time here? I’m curious because my sister wants to join but she’s in college right now. She fears she might join in too late.”
It’s like there’s a snap of something in his brain.
Those words, those words.
He remembers saying it to himself when he started college, he remembers that it’d be too late, he’d be the oldest one to join. Bradley sucked in a breath and cleared his throat, “I…no I think…” he couldn’t find words because his brain was screaming, there was so much going on he didn’t know what to do, “I think…if she has…enough support she’ll be fine.” he doesn’t see Maverick’s quick eye gaze thrown his way.
God, he just remembered how he felt when he was denied. Without reason.
Maverick eventually said there’d be enough questions and they were going to go through some other things before dismissing the group. Rooster just stands in the corner, looking down at the floor, furrowing his brows as he gets quiet and almost brooding because he had to have another conversation with Mav.
He knew why, but he had to know more.
So as soon as Maverick dismisses the group, Rooster approaches him, “Mav.” he begins, “Can we talk for a bit?”
“Sure,Rooster.What’s up?”
His jaw moves as he tries to speak, having to suck in a harsh intake of breath to actually figure out the words, “How long…has my mother spoken to you about me joining the Navy?” Maverick’s hand stops fiddling with the papers and his head slowly turns to his godson,”Months before my eighteenth birthday? Years?”
“Rooster…why does that matter now?”
“Because I want to know.” his godson replies, voice still quiet, “I know why you did it,I know the why. I want to know the when.”
“Rooster-”
“I’m almost forty.” Rooster cuts him off, “I shouldn’t be having thoughts like this,I should be worrying about Nicole and Bea,about how I’ll be there for them but I still remember the day I was denied entry. I want to know how long this was talked about between the two of you.”
He knew why Maverick was hesitating, it was the same reason as to why he didn’t let him know about his mother in the first place. His uncle licks his lips, then holds himself upright against the desk by using his knuckles, dropping his head forward with a sigh, ‘Brad…it’s time to let go.”
“I need to make that choice.” he cuts him off, “I need to make some choice in my life when it comes to my career…Mav, my dad was a pilot. You know that I shouldn’t’ve been denied. You know that…so I’m asking how long did you and my mom plan this?”
“Why are you bringing it up right now,Brad?”
“Because I’m still hurting.”
And those words weigh so much that all Maverick can do is stare. They had a conversation and honestly it wasn’t as long and thorough as it should’ve been back then, but to him everything was okay as long as Brad didn’t mention it anymore.
Plus he had Beatrice, so Mav really thought his mind would feel better like that.
“I…” he frowns, swallowing dryly, “I-I’m sorry,Brad.”
“Just answer me,Mav. I won't hate my mother, I need  to know what you did.” his uncle stared at him for a few more seconds, inhaled shakily and then said:
“Close the door.”
-
Beatrice happily placed the new aftershave lotion right in the kitchen table, tugging the edges of the wrapping paper in a way it made it look like it was actually a bouquet instead of an actual gift. She hummed a song, pouring some peach juice for herself as she looks at her phone, “And he’ll be here in…3…2…1…!” she pointed to the door as soon as she heard the Bronco roaring and slowly entered the garage, “Yes!”
She places the glass in the sink, grabs the gift and walks to the front door when she hears the garage close but no Rooster entering by the usual way. “Oh,maybe he just wanted to change a bit.” she stands by the front door with her hands behind her back, biting her lower lip and almost bouncing on the spot as she sees his shadow walking up to the door.
The dogs are already nosing the wood, tails wagging as the distinct sound of the door unlocking made Eleanor gently boof towards it. Beatrice is still smiling when Rooster opens it, greeting the dogs quietly and stepping inside.
She stays there, blinking, then frowns because her husband hasn’t looked up at her once, “Ahem.” she clears her throat, seeing him toss the keys into the glass bowl and toe his shoes out “Roos.”
He slowly lifts his head and his eyebrows arch in surprise, “Gorgeous,” he sounds genuinely confused to see her there, “How long have you been standing there?”
“A few minutes.”
“A few minutes- oh,gorgeous I’m sorry.” he sounds…off, he even looked off. Beatrice’s brows furrowed but she remained in place, “I’m…I’m just thinking,I’m sorry.” he leans down to kiss her forehead, then the tip of her nose, then her lips, “How are you? Did you have fun with Ev and Nikki?”
“I did…” but he knew she noticed it, Beatrice always did, “I got you a gift.” she reveals the amber colored package from behind her to check his reaction, frowning more when he tried to appear that he liked it but his eyes were just so hurt.
“Oh Gorgeous, you didn’t have to.” he says, not making any movement to open it, instead he sets it aside on one of the shelves in the hallway “I’ll…open it later, okay? I need a shower. And then we can have dinner.” he kisses her head again before walking around her towards the staircase.
Beatrice followed, right behind him, “Roos.” He doesn't stop walking, he just enters their bedroom while shrugging off the top part of his uniform, “Rooster.” She is inside the room now, furrowing her brows even more at how robotic and weird he was acting.
When he sits down on the bed to take off his socks, she approaches him, placing both hands on his cheeks to tilt his head up, “Brad…what’s wrong?” she asks softly, rubbing her fingers on his cheekbones, “You look sad…did something happen?” his eyes only glazed over with tears, “Roos…”
Her husband’s shaky breathing was her only reply, he clenched his eyes and tried to avoid keeping the gaze but a gentle hiccup made its way out of him. His chest moved up and down, his lips rolling into his mouth as he drops his head to her stomach, Beatrice’s hands sliding to his nape, gently brushing the shorter part of his hair, “Roos…” another shaky breath, this one louder than before and his hands slide to her waist to bring her closer.
Beatrice doesn’t say anything, she just caresses his head, stepping around his legs to settle down on his lap. The second she does his arms wrap around her waist and his face is buried into her neck. By the way he’s starting to shake, he’s holding back something big “Roos…baby.” she coos, kissing his temple, “It’s okay…it’s okay.”
Her soft voice giving him permission was more than enough for him to break.
Beatrice had never seen him cry like this, not in the sad way. Some tears maybe, sniffles, but never full own painful sobbing. She tried to mask her surprise by just holding him closer to herself, he sounded almost anguished when he cried, muffling his sobs on the curve of her shoulder, hiccuping, digging his nails on the back of her shirt as if to hold onto someone because he was already falling.
Beatrice sniffles herself, quickly wiping her own eyes because the last thing he needed was worry about her own feelings, “It’s okay..I have you.’ she whispers, “I got you, handsome…I got you.” he kept on crying, hot tears dampening the fabric of her shirt and seeping to her skin, “Go ahead and cry,Brad…it’s okay, you can do that.” she whispers, gently brushing her fingers on his hair, moving her fingers through each sandy brown strands in hopes it’d comfort him in some way.
She honestly couldn’t say when he finally stopped crying.

Cookbook Sample Preview...
I'm perfectly normal about this, totally calm. But I noticed on Sunday that the Dragon Age official cookbook had a preview/sample that it didn't have last time I checked. To summarize, it shows the Table of Contents and 7 new preview recipes along with 2 from an earlier sample release. It's basically previews the whole first section "Starters and Refreshments".
I will be putting things under cuts in case people don't wanna see things. From now on and after its release, the tag I will be using for the cookbook if you want to block is #tastes of thedas or #da: tot
I will also be silently combusting inside as I try not to let the excitement amp me up too much. I expect to fail this mission lol. (Spoiler I did fail and have been making my excitement everyone's problem.)
So, the cookbook sample. Amazon had a scrolling preview that wasn't as nice as the spreads so I made them into spreads like we got with the previous six recipes. You can see them here in this post.
But the following is the full spread of the sample from the cookbook. It gives us the cover, the two title pages, the table of contents, an introduction of a new character/narrator, the table of contents for the Starters and Refreshers section, and the 9 recipes within that section.
Beneath the images, I have transcribed the lore blurbs of the recipe as well as give an image description, but I didn't type out the recipes. That's for a later post (Also because it doesn't fit on this post. I hit the limit, sorry.) For a similar reason, I'm not adding my commentary to any of the recipes.

Introduction
Dear Mum,
It's me, Devon! I'm all grown up now-- or, well, more grown up than before. You always said I was too much like a child for my own good, and given the number of times you caught me daydreaming about going off on some grand adventure instead of sweeping the floors, I will grudgingly admit that you probably - probably - had a point. But guess what? I finally went on an adventure! A big one! Just like the Hero of Ferelden!
Okay, well, maybe not exactly like the Hero of Ferelden. But I did travel across Thedas! From Ferelden to Orlais, to Rivain, and even Tevinter. Plus, everything in between. It was a long journey, Mum. Weeks and weeks on the road, with the occasional bandit or beast. You'd probably have hated it, but, by Andraste, I loved every second of it! The sights! The sounds! The food.
Oh yes, the food. The reason why I set out on this journey to begin with. I know that I wasn't particularly adept in the kitchen the last time we saw each other. And, yes, I do remember that I nearly set Castle Cousland aflame with my first attempt at a stew. But I am pleased to inform you that I have been practicing extensively, and I think that, if the position still existed, I could take up your mantle as the Cousland family's cook. Granted, I doubt I would be able to fill your shoes completely; no one could manage such an impossible task. But I like to tell myself that I still would be able to make you proud.
And that takes me back to this journey and the all-important question of why. Why did I spend the last year traveling from one end of Thedas to the other, sampling whatever local cuisine I could get my hands on, even dishes that were downright strange? You're probably thinking that it's because the Hero of Ferelden ate it at some point - yes, that's certainly part of it, though I'll have you know that I tracked down foods enjoyed by the Champion of Kirkwall and the Inquisitor as well! Not to mention all their companions. But the truth is, Mum, throughout all of this, you were right there with them at the forefront of my mind. Because when I thought of ways to honor you, I kept coming back to the most important lesson you taught me: Love through food.
Every time I left your kitchen with a warm, full belly, I felt your love for me. And though I can't do the same for you anymore, I can fill this book. I can stuff it full of different recipes, dishes you've probably never even heard of, and think of you with each new entry. Because, you see, Mum, underneath all that childlike excitement, the dreams of adventure and heroism, I'm still very much your child. And I always will be.
Thank you for everything, Mum. I can't wait to share this book and the lessons that inspired it with the rest of the world.
Love, Devon
Starters & Refreshments
Eggs à la Val Foret
Image Description: A pancake with ham and a sliced poached egg with paprika and herbs on top sit on a silver platter.
Recipe Blurb: Ah, yes. Tons of cream! Exactly what I've come to expect from Orlesian cuisine. Do I have any tips for creating the perfect poached egg? Well, ever since I heard that Solas's bald head was once likened to an egg, I simply try to make my eggs just as round and shiny! So far, it's worked wonderfully and never ceases to put a smile on my face.
Nevarran Blood Orange Salad
Image Description: A wooden bowl rests on a rock, it holds a colourful salad with blood orange slices resting on top.
Recipe Blurb: Although I knew that Divine Victoria left behind a life of wealth and privilege to join the Seekers of Truth, it wasn't until I was in Nevarra, seeing exactly what she'd given up, that I truly gained an appreciation for the path she'd chosen. The best way to describe my first glimpse of the gardens of Nevarra is that it was like seeing a painting come to life. For a long moment, I could only stand there, so dazzled by the richness and vibrancy of it all that I was half-convinced I was actually still napping in the carriage. Surely, there was no way such beauty could be found outside of a dream. And yet the beauty before me was very much real.
So, too, was the picturesque tableau that arrived later that day on a plate: perfectly cut slices of blood orange artfully arranged on a lush pillow of bitter greens. Was this a meal or a still life, I wondered. In truth, the answer was both. For Nevarrans, food is as much a feast for the eyes as for the mouth. But even if your arrangement isn't quite worthy of being displayed in a museum, this salad will sing a symphony on your tastebuds.
Fried Young Giant Spiders
Image Description: A metal bowl filled with salad greens and fried crab legs arranged on top. Plate sits on a wooden table with a metal item and a smoking pot in the background.
Recipe Blurb: Just as people on the surface raise cows and goats, the dwarves underground raise spiders. Yes, to eat. The legs are fried and served with a sauce, which, true to dwarven fashion, is made with some type of alcohol. The precise kind depends on the establishment where you're eating your spider legs. Unfortunately, I couldn't get an exact recipe from any of the chefs I spoke to. These sauces are apparently closely guarded secrets and have spurred many a nefarious plot to acquire them-the competiontion to be crowned Orzammar's Best Sauce is fierce. But I've been assured that lichen ale is generally not used.
I've therefore come up with my own recipe, based on the many varieties I sampled while in Orzammar. Given that sourcing the requisite spider legs above ground is not nearly so easy, and the demand for such exports is minimal, I've subsituted them with crab legs. It's not a perfect match, but it's close enough to satisfy me.
Stuffed Deep Mushrooms
Image Description: Three mushroom caps fulled with a green, cheesy blend topped with chives. Placed on a platter that looks like a cut of wood, red capped mushrooms with white spots in the right hand corner in the foreground.
Recipe Blurb: Though the mushrooms growing underground in caves and in many parts of the Deep Roads are all called "deep mushrooms," there is no singular variety. In fact, there are several! Some mushrooms are squat, with broad, flat caps, while others are long and spindly, reaching toward the sky like an old man's gnarled fingers. They also have a multitude of applications, used in the creation of everything from restorative potions to deadly poisons. But in Orzammar, mushrooms are farmed for eating!
I was able to sample some of these dwarven delicacies, prized for their unique flavor and intoxicating scent. After only a few bites, I was struck with inspiration. How delicious would one of these mushrooms be when stuffed with cheese and spinach? The answer is: very. Rest assured that I selected this particular variety of deep mushroom not only for its shape, which is ideal for holding the maximum amount of cheese (and spinach), but also for the fact that it does not carry the darkspawn taint. While certain dwarves will insist that a deep mushroom's proximity to lyrium and darkspawn can only improve its flavor, I am quite content to leave that particular question a mystery, especially where lyrium is concerned. Although I'm hardly and expert on the stuff, I can't help but think about Fenris and how much suffering he endured as a result of his lyrium-infused markings. It seems to me that, barring any natural resistance, lyrium and the body are two things that probably shouldn't mix.
Rivaini Couscous Salad
Image Description: A copper bowl filled with couscous, mixed with various veggies and a mint leaf on top. A letter with an amulet from Alistair in the bottom left corner - merch from the BioWare store.
Recipe Blurb: When I first encountered couscous, I mistakenly believed it to be a grain, like rice or the more familiar Fereldan barley. I was swiftly corrected. In fact, couscous is a sort of pasta, made with semolina flour and water, although it's far smaller than your typical Antivan pasta. Couscous has a very mild flavor on its own--maybe slightly nutty. But where it excels is in its ability to soak up surrounding flavors, making it a perfect base for any salad. I'd love to experiment further, but so far, this particular combination of red bell pepper and mint has proven to be incredibly pleasing.
Crab Cakes from Kirkwall
Image Description: A caste iron pan over a bed of coals and flames, filled with battered soft shelled crabs, red peppers, and lemon slices.
Recipe Blurb: I love it when recipes add a dash of whimsy into the mix. Food shoulf be fun. I, therefore, took it upon myself to put this into practice with a classic Kirkwall dish. After all, who hasn't looked at their crab cakes and wished they looked a little more like crabs? Okay, maybe I'm the only one who's thought this. But now that I've brought this possibility to your attention, I'm certain you're interested as well! Best of all, these extra-crabby crab cakes stay true to the original recipe's flavors, so nothig is lost--only gained!
Fluffy Mackerel Pudding
Image Description: Two red small bowls with baked masked potatoes and a slice of hard boiled egg on top sit on a net with a starfish in the background.
Recipe Blurb: Can it really be Feast Day without fluffy mackerel pudding? No! In fact, there's no dish I associate more strongly with the holiday than this unique combination of mackerel, onion, celery, and eggs. Granted, I've heard stories that, several decades ago, someone once attempted a diet consisting entirely of fluffy mackerel pudding. Now, that I certainly wouldn't recommend. It stops being Feast Day Fish if you eat it every day, no?
Snail & Watercress Salad
Image Description: A wooden bowl resting on a river rock, filled with a salad comprised of mixed greens, radishes, and cooked snails.
Recipe Blurb: When the Avvar can't get their hands on a gurgut or a wyvern, they turn their attention to smaller prey. Much smaller prey. Snails are found on many a hillside boulder, making them an abundant source of food for the Avvar. Now, while some would wrinkle their noses or cry out in disgust at the prospect of eating a snail, I am pleased to report that, when prepared correctly, the texture. and flavor are actually good! I could happily eat a plate full of snails dressed in butter and oil, but those still on the fence about a snail's place
Cave Beetles
Image Description: A carved bowl holding cooked whole prawns, lemon slices and herbs sit on a rock with fake beetles and a black rock with blue glowing lines in the background.
Recipe Blurb: You think that, after snails, I'd balk at beetles? Never! In fact, I greatly enjoyed this dwarven dish, which involves roasting cave beetles in their shells. However, I recognize that many may not have a palate that's nearly so adventurous. If that's the case, the cave beetles can be replaced with whole prawns while keeping the rest of the recipe the same. That being said, if you do enjoy the variation with prawns, I really recommend giving the cave beetles a try. They're quite similar in both texture and flavor. If you were to blindfold yourself, I doubt you could tell the difference!

INDIES TOP 136 FILMS OF SOUTH ASIAN CINEMA’S 2 GREATEST ACTRESSES - MEENA KUMARI (77 FILMS) & SUCHITRA SEN (59 FILMS) !
A separate Indie playlist, to honour the 2 most popular, highest acclaimed, & widely regarded greatest of all actresses, of the entire Indian & South Asian diaspora – Meena Kumari & Suchitra Sen ! 2 very different actresses in style & school, yet that imbibed the same core depth & ability to penetrate audience imagination & leave them blessed with new vibrant spirit & higher ethos, & even greater admiration for the feminine energy in art. That combined with their eclectic body of work encompassing, one imagines an entire spectrum of female art & life in society at it’s very finest. And even where Hindi audiences at Indies may’ve had a fair taste of Meena jis’s work already, from the various decades lists on Indies Yt page, a great time to view it all in never-before singular artist-based perspective, as well as get enlightened on, in Indie reckoning, the 2nd greatest screen-pair of Indian cinema, Uttam Kumar & Suchitra Sen, the eternal royalty of Bangla cinema for no lesser than 3/4th century, a screen-pair that single-handedly redefined Bangla cinema & raised it to the highest respect & hysterical adulation back in 1950s & 1960s, amassing a veritable treasure house of ‘soul cinema’, a diamond era in Bengali motion art, that saw them competing for highest accolades with no lesser than Satyajit Ray’s brand of ‘life-defining movies’, a divine screen-pairing with Uttam that btw forms nearly 3/4th of Suchitra ji’s life work too. Watch the greatest, in their finest!

Signs that you're in love with the prince of England:
[This has been sitting in the notes app on my phone for over a year bc I kept forgetting to format and post it]
Reminiscent of the Signs that you’re in love your roommate post that I made a few years ago
On Page 7: the first time you talk about him, you mention him jerking off (okay, I will admit this one is a bit of a stretch, but I'm just getting started)
On Page 10: you imagine "twirling around a ballroom while [he] drones sweet nothings" in your ear (and blush about it!)
On Page 11: you liken him to Prince Charming (another stretch)
On Page 14: you spend half the page describing him in quite complimentary terms (”infuriatingly symmetrical"? Really, Alex?)
On Page 14: you get upset thinking that his dancing with your sister has something to do with you
On Page 15: you clearly remember the first time you really saw him
On Page 16: you used to sneak into your sister's room to touch his hair in a picture
On Page 16: you imagined taking said picture and keeping it in your room
On Page 16: you say he's beautiful
On Page 18: you get defensive and upset when he insinuates that you may be obsessed with him
On Page 19: you delight in the glimpse of his personality
On Page 19: in all the wreckage, you manage to see a small cut on his cheek out of the corner of your eye
On Page 30: you already know everything about him from "hate reading" his Wikipedia page
On Page 36: you describe him poetically. Or really, the way you describe him in that entire page. His hands, his eyes...
On Page 43: you say he's fresh and handsome and his hair looks soft
On Page 43: you say he is annoyingly attractive (and are so distracted you almost don't hear a question you're being asked (on television!!)
On Page 48: you enjoyed that slightly erotic fight you just had with him
On Page 50: you remember the first time you met him "down to the Union Jack on [his] anorak"
On Page 53: one of the first things you say after giving him your number is "no booty calls"
On Page 59: Luna doesn't believe that you're not into the prince
On Page 59: you stared at a photo of him for an hour
On Page 71: you have a stupid smile every time you look at your phone while texting him
On Page 73: you know he's frowning at his phone
On Page 77: you text him every day
On Page 80: you imagine him killing you sensually (yeah, I'm reaching again but this page is great)
On Page 82: you get a big smile at something he says
On Page 83: You're still smiling
On Page 91-92: You tell him about all your family drama/baggage
On Page 95: your sister compares your relationship with him to fake dating turned falling in love trope
On Page 96: you feel warm and nervous when your sister says you like him
On Page 98: you think he has a beautiful face
On Page 99: you really like him
On Page 101: you find him endearing
On Page 102: you feel a strange spark in your gut at the way he's watching you
On Page 103: you feel giddy when he gets jealous of you dancing with someone else
On Page 106: You're thinking about absorbing some of the "much" for him to help him
On Page 108: you don't mind kissing him
On Page 108: kissing him is nothing like kissing anyone you've ever kissed before
On Page 109: you can't stop thinking about the kiss
On Page 113: you think about him and something twists in your chest
On Page 113: You're so caught caught up in thinking about his body that you trip and skin your knee
On Page 114: you've wanted to kiss him this entire time
On Page 115: You're always thinking about him, no matter how hard you try to distract yourself
On Page 120: You're Draco Malfoy level obsessed with him and have been for years
On Page 120: you long-distance flirt with him every day
On Page 120: basically everything that Nora is saying on this page about you...
On Page 124: you get pissed when you see him kissing someone else, before you calm down enough to think it through logically
On Page 129: You're into his British accent
On Page 132: you feel lit up with a feeling that has probably always been there
On Page 135: you have to remind yourself that you don't have feelings for him
On Page 145: you have to remind yourself not to care too much
On Page 158: You're kind of obsessed with him
On Page 159-160: after seeing a picture of him, your heart does a weird thing (that definitely isn't a whole thing)
On Page 160: You're just as attracted to his dark moods as the rest of them
On Page 172: you open up to him about things you don't say to anyone else
On Page 183: your migraine "demands soothing images of Henry looking cozy and picturesque”
On Page 198: you've never met a challenge you didn't live, and he is a challenge
On Page 199: you know all his ticks
On Page 200: you wish you could wake up with him and watch him get ready for the day every morning
On Page 219-220: he plays "Your Song" and you have to tell yourself that you aren't there to fall in love with him
On Page 227: he's the one you want to call when you're going through a rough time
On Page 234: it wouldn't make a difference if you were told not to see him again
On Page 243: even after everything that has happened, you still feel like you want to know more of him
On Page 257: You're "so in love [you] could die"
At this point he's finally admitted it, and I could have stopped but decided to keep going:
On Page 257: you've been falling in love with him for years
On Page 263: you try to tell him you love him
On Page 266-267: for a full week, you go crazy after he ghosts you
On Page 267-270: you fly to a whole other country to confront him and won't leave until he lets you in
On Page 271: you tell him you love him. Twice.
On Page 277: you feel something about him knowing how you like your coffee
On Page 283: you've been thinking about how a relationship with him would work since that first time he kissed you
On Page 291: you refer to him as one of your homes
On Page 302-303: you make a list of things you love about him
On Page 312: you're willing to risk ruining your life for him
On Page 312: you're never gonna love anyone else like you love him
On Page 328: you feel forever about him. and you've known it all along
On Page 344: you love him on purpose

Bravo's Banned List
With the help of @bravo-four-seal-team, @@jayhalsteadfan-2417 and @rebelwrites, we made a list.
A list, posted on various walls throughout the Naval base, the plane and the cage room. About 1/3 of it is typed up, the rest is in hastily written pen. Made by Blackburn to try and corral Bravo. It's doing its best.
Tag: @rebelwrites @chibsytelford @bravo-four-seal-team @velvetcardiganbucky @supervalcsi @abby-splace @itsonautopilot @thegirlwhoisalwayswriting @pinkrockstar19 @softi92 @mrsmarvelous1995 @jayhalsteadfan-2417
Just so you're all aware, this is a 6.5-page document.

So a dust cloud just swept through my city and I’ve been feeling like awful for most of the week (I’m allergic) . Barely managed to finish this 1-panel page, but at least it’s a good one.
In other news, there’s this group chat for secret trio fans that you can join (in theory its of the secret QUARTET (they add Chat Noir from Miraculous ladybug) but the idea is the same. So, if you want to talk bout the comic, the crossover or any of the show, you’re welcome. But because Tumblr is held together by popsicle sticks and dreams, it only works on mobile.

Anyway, enjoy and see you next week!

SniperSpy smiles like they mean it
Have I ever told how horrible I am with titles?
No one run away and so far we have not experienced any signs of meteor showers. I suppose anything can still happen, though...
This was just a quiet page, Sniper anxiously waiting for Spy to appear. I also checked some YouTube tutorials for sign language. Jonathan isn't the best with words but lucky for him and Mick he can express his feelings in other ways. Woot woot!
The next page is now available on my Patreon!
The charity of May 2023 is Operation Underground Railroad - OUR
Working in almost 40 different countries OUR rescues children from sex trafficking and sexual exploitation. Since they started in 2013 they have rescued over 6,000 survivors and the arrested over 4,000 predators.
The characters don’t belong to me, the artwork does.
Thank you so very much for reblogging the story! It means the world to me!

Christmas Eve.
It should be a relaxing time to enjoy the celebrations with your family, but Beatrice was extremely nervous. She made a list of food she knew her mother would usually make and the ones she couldn’t eat, she was staring at it now, flicking her gaze back and forth as she tried to make a connection if it was safe or not.
So far…everything was good. So far.
Beatrice was with Nicole, her little daughter lying on her stomach and playing with one of the many brain stimulating toys she got. They were for eight months and up but ever since she saw Nicole playing in Evelyn’s house, Beatrice thought it’d be a good idea to do that to her and she was right.
Because Nicole was really good with the pegboard puzzles already, barely needing much direction from her parents when she did so. Beatrice leans against the headboard, chewing the end of her pen as she hears Rooster’s feet coming up the stairs, her husband stops by the threshold and leans his shoulder on it, ‘Watcha doin’?” he asks, tilting his head ‘You look focused.”
“I’m signing what I can and cannot eat when we go to my parents.” she explains, “And what I can eat without rising suspicion.”
Rooster hummed, pushing himself off the threshold to smile at Nicole, who grinned up at him before chewing the silicon star happily, “And you are keeping mommy company, huh?” he asks sweetly, kissing her forehead and sitting down next to Beatrice, Nicole was surrounded by her parents’ legs almost like they were walls, “And how is it going,so far?”
“It’s…going okay?”
He peeks over at the paper, smiling when he notices she drew tiny christmas themed pictures all over the paper, alongside tiny cannolis that had extra ‘ok’ around them, “Your mom always does something new every Christmas. You told me she did that uhh…pasta pie once.”
“‘Ncasciata.” she says, “It was pretty good too…kinda heavy. Too much work too, amazingly my mother thinks that sometimes.” she taps the paper, “I can’t have…too much fish- no I can but only certain types. Swordfish is a no no, thankfully she’s not making that this year.”
“That fish was really good.” he recalls, “It’s probably one of my favorite things I had for christmas.”
‘She’s making a huge chicken this year, no turkey. One of my father’s friends has an organic farm away from San Diego and he has these huge chickens so they got that…what else,” she flips the page, “Oh, there’s also roasted garlic potatoes, which I can eat as long it’s not too much.”
“Okay.”
“...and the dessert, from all the options,” she taps the tip on each word, “I think it’ll be either chocolate lava cake or hazelnut chocolate tart, which I can eat. It adds to the babies’ diet.” she frowns, however, “....oh god I have to think about the things my aunt is going to bring.”
“Or,” he cuts her gently, “You can stay within your mom’s cooking and don’t worry about it too much.”
“...I guess.”
He smiles, kissing the curve of her shoulder and chuckling when she squeaked and bunched up to prevent the tickling from his mustache against her skin, which of course only made Rooster kiss her even harder, nuzzling the soft skin of her neck and then propping his chin on the curve of her neck, “You are worrying too much, babe.”
“...I know, it’s not–I don’t know Roos.” she whispered, “I want everything to go well, Nicole’s was fine.” Their little daughter was now sitting up, placing shapes in their respective holes with a gentle giggle, back to them, “And I want the twins’ to be fine. And we need to be careful…and…yeah.”
Bradley hummed, his voice vibrating against her skin as he kissed her neck one more time, this time wrapping his arms around her waist as carefully as he could, bringing her closer to his side, his lips moving up to rest against her temple,”It’ll be okay.” she made a little noise that he always found adorable even if it meant she was upset. His thumb drew random shapes on the fabric of her sweater, feeling the braided wool rubbing against his finger, “You’ll see….we just gotta be careful, that’s all.”
“I know…”
“But you are also worried because of your family.”
“And Mav. And Penny.” she whispers, “And Amelia, you know I did really good at the bar. Penny didn’t notice anything and neither did Shells.” she explains, “But…what if I slip up and do something? I just want the babies to be safe… and I don’t want anyone to think I’m being a bitch or anything, I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.”
Rooster loved how caring she was, it didn’t matter what or to whom,Beatrice has proven time and time again that she’s the sweetest human he had the privilege of knowing and of course, marrying and loving so much.He tries to cover his smile in her hair, sniffing the lavender shampoo that held onto the brown tresses, “You are so cute.” he whispers, kissing her scalp, “Cutest human being in this whole wide universe. I can’t handle you sometimes.”
She looked up at him with the perfect personification of the ‘:(‘ emoji and his heart clenched, “Baby….aw,honey.” he cups her close to his chest, letting her hug his middle and bury her face in his shirt, “My gorgeous girl, you are too sweet, you are too nice. You’d never hurt anyone.”
“Hrmmm…”
“I’m serious, you are just too kind.”
Beatrice only smiled up at him in thanks, then nuzzled his chest, “I try to…sometimes I think I am too kind.”
“You aren’t stupid if that’s what you are suggesting.”
Beatrice smiles more, hugging his middle and sighing quietly, enjoying the noises coming from Nicole’s constant trying to fit the shapes in its’ holes and the dogs walking downstairs, but her favorite sound had to be Rooster’s heartbeat, “Thank you,Roos.” she whispers, ‘...You know, it’s crazy that the first time you met my family was three years ago.”
“Hah.” his chest bounces with the sudden chuckle,”I had so much fun. It was the best Christmas I had in a while, gorgeous.” he says, twirling the ends of her hair with his finger as the two watch Nicole discover her brain by herself, babbling happily in front of them, “And now,I have a ring on my finger that you put it there and I put one on yours.” she giggles a bit, hugging him tighter, “We’ll be okay,Bea…I know you are still nervous,I can feel it in you.”
‘Hrm.”
“Your shoulders tense up like crazy.” he explains, running the tip of his index finger on her shoulder, following until he touched her shoulder blade, “And you clench your jaw. Not often, but enough notice.”
“Yeah…you are right.” she relaxes a bit, “I should let it go for now, if I worry too much people will…notice.I’m just not a good liar Roos, you know that.I can’t hide a lot from people.”
“I mean, you did lie sometimes.” he pinches his fingers, leaving a small space between them, “Just a little white lie. Nothing bad.”
She laughs, sighing again, “...anyway, let’s change the subject for a bit because I feel like I’ll get worse: are you excited for Virginia? We’ll go at the end of this week.”
His chest expanded over the mention of his home state, his eyes softening, “Yeah,I am.” he smiles, “I miss that place a lot sometimes.”
“...would you ever live there again?”
He purses his lips, shaking his head briefly, “Probably not. I love it there but…it brings a lot of bad,bad memories. I’d rather stay wherever you stay.” he smirks, dropping a soft kiss to her forehead, “It’s much better.”
“What if I want to go to the North Pole?”
“You hate the cold.” he says with his lips still glued to her forehead, “You’d never go to the North Pole, you’d stay somewhere warm and tropical…like Brazil.”
“Brazil,huh?”
“I had a Brazilian classmate, he was really fun.”
“And you’d go with me.”
“Of course,” he smirks, “You’d wear those tiny bikinis too,I’d be all for it.”
Beatrice swats his chest playfully and her husband laughs, holding his arms up in defense. Nicole looks back to stare at her parents, immediately forgetting about whatever she was doing to smile at them. She crawls over, squeezing herself between her parents and trying her best to push herself up only to fall back on her bottom on top of the mattress, “Birdie, you can’t stand up yet.” Rooster  coos, cupping Nicole under the armpits and raising her to his lips, kissing those chubby cheeks over and over, “But with how things are going I wouldn’t put it behind you, baby girl, you are one smart little cookie.”
Beatrice just grins, watching the conversation between her husband and daughter, only looking away when her phone started to ring. Considering it was Christmas Eve, she assumed it’d be her distant relatives wishing her Merry Christmas or her siblings asking what time she was coming.
She was right about one thing.
It was her aunt Martha calling. She unlocks the phone to take the call, “Buon Natale, zia Martha.”
Her aunt’s laughter was heard by Rooster,”Preziosa, è ancora la vigilia di Natale. Christmas is tomorrow.” she says, “But, yes, buon natale. I was calling to ask if you all are coming at the scheduled time tonight?”
“Um…yeah, why?”
“No reason, I was simply curious. How is the little principessa?”
“She is,” Beatrice turns, smiling when she sees that Rooster just allowed Nicole to climb on his face and practically use him as her personal pillow, “Amazing, She’s great.”
“Good, good, she’s a healthy little baby. You two will have strong and healthy children.”
Beatrice blinked over her aunt’s words, “...thank you, auntie.”
“So don’t worry too much.”
Beatrice almost threw the phone out of her grasp, but instead chose to widen her eyes and inhale so sharply that Rooster heard her, lifting Nicole enough to look at his wife with his brows furrowed, “Thank you, zia.”
“Oh, do not thank me. I just want you all to be okay.” she put a lot of emphasis on the all “I have a special gift for you,by the way, well, all of you.”
“Oh,zia, thank you.” she says softly, “You didn’t have to.”
“Nonsense. I want to help you and your family, you know I adore all of you so much.” she could hear Martha was smiling through the phone. “Even those who aren’t here yet.”
Beatrice’s aunt was weird, she was a hippie witch that could undoubtedly control the weather and probably curse your entire generation with a snap of fingers. She figured out Nicole was to be born, was she really surprised about the sudden cryptic messages thrown her way? “...thank you, zia.”
“You are so welcome! Now, I must go, your mother needs my help with some things. I’ll see you all soon!”
“See you,zia.”
Rooster watches as Beatrice’s stare turns distant and the hand holding the phone drops to her lap, her lips in a tight line, “Bea?” he asks, flicking his gaze from the phone to her, “What’s wrong?”
“She knows.”
“Who knows?”
“My aunt.”
The dots were connected quickly, he didn’t have to think much and figure out what she was talking about. Martha knew Beatrice was pregnant, again, and mentioned it in her very own…specific way. Bradley lowers Nicole, his daughter fascinated by his mustache still and kept on brushing her tiny fingers over it, “...okay.” he inhales, arching his brows, “We should’ve expected that.”
“Roos…why is my family the cryptic Sicilian family that no one really knows how they do things?” she sounds genuinely confused mentioning that, “...I’m sorry you had to join such a crazy bunch.”
He stares at her as if she grew three heads, “Are you kidding? Have you met my friends? Have you met Mav? Who are you calling a crazy bunch?” she only smiles thankfully at him, sighing one last time and letting her back touch the headboard, “Will she say something?”
She shakes her head negatively, “No, she’s not the one who announces it to people, she didn’t announce Nicole’s. She…probably wants to talk to me about it, give me some tips since she had twins and such…I mean, that’s what I’m hoping.”
“Then it’s all good.”
“I guess.” she murmurs, “The one thing I don’t need is my mother appearing like a pirate’s parrot on my shoulder when that happens. Then we’ll be really f-ed up.” she murmured, tossing the phone to her side and interlacing her hands on top of her navel, looking over at Nicole and her wandering little hands all over Rooster’s face, “You okay over there?”
He gives her a thumb up and the side of his mouth quirks up in a smile, “Great. She’s just exploring.”
“Aa!”
“Yeah, you are.” he picks Nicole from his face and blows a raspberry under her chin, earning a high pitched giggle that only made their hearts fill up with joy. He pulls back to smile at Nikki, holding her just a few inches above his head, ‘Can you imagine hearing something so sweet three times?” he asks, playfully swaying their daughter as if she was bobbing in the ocean very gently, “The house is going to be so full of life.”
Beatrice smiled back, leaning her temple against the headboard, “Yeah…it will be.”
“You are still nervous.” he says without taking his eyes off Nikki, “Because of your aunt.”
“I mean,yeah.”
“You said she wouldn’t mention it.”
“She won’t but,” she sighs, “I don’t know, I’ll have to talk to her about it, if she says something. I kinda want my parents to know about it too? And Mav…ugh, this is stressful. I hate it.”
“Stress isn’t good for the baby.”
“I know.” she says, “...at least you’ll be there with me.”
“Always, gorgeous.” he says as if it’s obvious, smirking at her. He sees that her brows are still furrowed so he gently brushes his thumb over the small crease, then drags it to the tip of her nose and then over her lips, letting her kiss the pad of his thumb, “We’ll be okay.”
Beatrice doesn’t say anything, but nods with an appreciative smile before she drags herself to the edge of the bed, “I’m going to take a shower.” she says, running her hands through her hair, “Set our outfits ready and…then get the dogs?”
“I can do that.” he says, scooting to the edge himself, “The gifts are at your parents’ so that’s one thing less to worry about.”
“Yeah…right.”
“Bea,” she looks up when he calls, his eyes soft and smile gentle, “Baby, we’ll be fine. I promise you.”
Beatrice only gives him one weak smile then turns on her heel to the bathroom, disappearing from his view. Rooster stares at the space she once stood, then looks down at Nicole, holding her up like the precious doll she was, “Baby girl,we are going to give mommy a nice Christmas.”
“Aa!”
“Hell yeah we are.” he adjusts her on his grasp,”She deserves it.”
