It wasn't a typical occurrence for Miray to go walking the streets of the city but if there was anywhere you'd find her it was Brooklyn. The Crimson's home and most importantly the location of all of their businesses. It shouldn't really have been such a surprise to see somebody from the gang walking towards her and yet she was slightly surprised. She took in the man for a second as he got closer. God he was hot. "Oh hey stranger. where are you going? If it's nothing important, come with me."

She was stressed and she was annoyed but she was making an attempt not to let it show on her face. In an attempt to cheer up slightly she made her way over to Riley and tapped him on the shoulder. "Hey there handsome. You scrub up well, not that I didn't already know that. Are you having an okay night?"

Ghost beach one-shot preview bc it might take a minute to finish

“We’re in broad fucking daylight, love.”

“There is nothing for miles. We’re in an actual deadzone."

“We don’t know that. We don’t know anything. Soap could be dead somewhere for all we know and Price—”

“Ghost,” you snap, and your tone carries more venom than he’s had directed towards him in years. Only dwarfed by the pointed look you shoot towards him. “Soap can hold his own. We’re no use to him captured or dead, and we’ll be slower to keel over from the heat if we stick to water.”

You squeeze his shoulder in that way that he usually does with you, to keep you from biting anyone’s heads off.

“It’ll be fine,” you assure him. “I promise.”

He grinds his teeth, but shuts his mouth. You’re both right, he realizes that—it's only a matter of substituting one challenge for another, but that doesn’t make him feel any less better about any of this.

mai huffed out a breath that was almost a laugh, but it caught in her throat before it could be real. "yeah," she said, eyes flicking up to meet his. "i'll make sure she knows you were brave... in your own chaotic, scribbly way." her voice softened with something that almost resembled affection, but there was a tremor beneath it — not quite fear, but close. "you're right though. it's not fair. none of this is." she adjusted her bag on her shoulder, fingers brushing against the zipper like she needed the anchor. "but if we keep going like we are — careful, quiet — maybe we'll actually get out of this." she took a steadying breath and nodded back at him. "yeah. i'm ready." even if that was a lie.

"I mean, I know life isn't fair but...it's not fair..." They hadn't been doing anything wrong. Unwinding after a long week of classes and just hanging out with friends wasn't a crime. They didn't deserve to be haunted or whatever this was. "If we make it through this, let my mom know that I'm a hero," he said, attempting to joke to lighten the situation. "Oh, I'm not judging. I didn't have a notebook at all." Riley tucked the journal under his arm, and gave a quick nod. "You ready?" He pulled his gaze from the library to look at her.
