Let’s make something quite clear.
COP29 is going to be nothing but a ghastly self-congratulatory circlejerk of genocidally minded fossil fuel worshippers and greenwashing nihilists furiously yanking eachother off amidst a backdrop of caviar and champagne.
Hosted by a genocidally minded petrodollar fascist dictatorship no less.
(To say nothing of Ukraine’s cynical support for such a putrid government! Talk about double standards!)
You know this.
I know this.
Everyone and their dog knows this.
Hosting the previous conference in Dubai was bad enough but this is genuinely obscene!
It’s beyond insulting.
Boycott the shite out of it.
Or at least call it out.
Perhaps both! Idk.
Feel free to reblog.
Leaving a few more news articles and other relevant links here too for clarity.
Some of them are a few months out of date (mostly from very late last year) admittedly but it took me a while to find them.
Reblog the shit out of this.

Happy Independence Day, Armenia.
Your former colonizers and current murderers chose this time to steal more from you and kill more of your children.
You survived them before. You did it with hope. Now there's no hope, only hatred for your tormentors and determination to avenge your suffering.
It took a long time for your hopeful children to get angry.

“Houthis are only waging this war to gain legitimacy” is a braindead take, regardless of your political leanings.
Legitimacy from whom? Who exactly was challenging their power? They were on the cusp of a peace deal with Saudi. If anything they’ve jeopardised this revered legitimacy to support and defend Gaza.
If this “legitimacy” gained through supporting Palestine could actually save you, Morsi would’ve died the president of Egypt.
Why don’t other despots like MBS and Sisi seek legitimacy in the same manner since it’s so bloody effective?
Palestine-washing is when a state or leader performs solidarity while continuing to maintain relations with the zionist entity. A good example is Erdogan with his little rallies. Imposing a siege on the zionist entity, seizing ships, launching ballistics and going to war with imperial powers is a heroic act of true solidarity.
In fact if this is “Palestine-washing”, then may the entire world “Palestine-wash”.

Belgian police raid Kurdish television studios
Tonight at around 02:00 Belgian police broke into the studios of the Kurdish television stations Medya Haber and Sterk Tv in Denderleeuw. Without prior notice, hundreds of police stormed the studios of Sterk TV and Medya Haber, breaking down doors and ransacking the building. Sterk TV reported that cables were cut and equipment damaged, leading to a blockade of television broadcasting.
At a time when Turkey is launching military offensives in South Kurdistan, killing Kurdish civilians in Rojava with drones and announcing the invasion of Shengal, the actions of the Belgian state are complicit in these crimes.
Sterk TV spokesperson: "This attack is a part of the genocidal concept of the Turkish occupation" & "With this attack they want to silence the voice of the Kurdish people"

Oh ya I’ve heard Türkiye is having some elections today, how’s that going? :D
it’s on sunday!!! ive spent the entirety of this morning crying over election coverage LOL. this is the single most important event of my life. yk how every politician says the next election is the most important one so everyone should go out n vote? thats the situation here but quite literally.
on one hand you have islamic extremists (erdoğan. one of the parties” that support him is literally formed from an extremist cult. the only reason they haven’t all been put on trial is bc erdoğan supports them and he’s only got the extremists’ support left. and also bc years back he declared a nationwide state of emergency and quickly passed multiple laws in succession where. he’s no longer the prime minister but “the sole leader” of turkey. yeah)
and on the opposition there’s a coalition of 6 parties, literally all the major left parties with some nationalists, with their joint candidate kılıçdaroğlu. CHP (the main opposition party) has been center left lately, but its the actual fuckin party that first turned turkey into a republic from a sultanate. its huge. compared to US politics the average left wing party is actually pretty fuckin left here LOL. and they havent won the govt since 1950s (last peaceful n prospering decades of turkey) AND. THEY ACTUALLY STAND A CHANCE. all the polls point towards kılıçdaroğlu winning the elections
and you have no idea how bad it’s been here for the last few years. god. there’s so many shit thats wrong in the country because of the current government. civillians getting arrested for tweets criticizing erdogan, not being able to afford anything, being unable to pay your rent, erdogan (WITH HIS SINGULAR DECISION) withdrawing from the istanbul convention, the femicides being the highest it has ever been since the entire history of the turkey, murdered religious minorities and murdered journalists, tens of thousands of people left alone to die after the earthquakes back in february. its pretty fucking scary living here unless you’re a cishet sunni muslim man.
everyone i know that can afford it has been fleeing the country. sometimes it feels like thats the only option you have unless you want to get killed as a 20 something year old trying to make ends meet. i’m only 20 yo myself and the past 8 years has brought me and everyone under 30 to such a place where the only thing we feel about the future is hopelessness. i feel like ive aged 10 years in the last year alone and i bet anyone thats lived under a similar govt can relate. my countrys politics alone has been robbing me of my youth and my will to live.
AND. DESPITE ALL OF THAT. i have hope for the very first time. i have hope for a better future now bc of the opposition candidate and i have faith in him to deliver his promises. everything thats happened since january he’s been dealing with with grace, and him + mayors from his party actually do shit.
so yeah. the entire course of turkey is gonna change this sunday. if we were to lose this would be the last democratic elections held (the last elections held, period) before erdoğan fully converted the country into an autocracy, and when kılıçdaroğlu wins its gonna become a socialist state, as socialist as it’s ever been since the 1950s. pretty fuckin big stakes

'people are only hate Putin because he is at war with predominantly white country!' as much as its disgusting some people in the west are like that, if u dont hate him for what he did to Syrians and Chechens and Georgians and indigineous people of Russia and crimean tatars and other people whose 'whiteness' is questionable and u never tried educating yourself on that and speaking up against it maybe ur just as ignorant as usamericans and other NATO apologists who think wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were justified. Russians who protested neonazi violence in Russia and russian involvement in war crimes end up in jail and journalists who write about it end up dead just like blm activists and indigineous people in US/canada. Have u ever thought theres no good guy vs bad guy dichotomy when it comes to USA vs Russia and both of them can be genocidal imperialist and fascist states

This is all too true. I’m saying this as a leftist myself.
Conservatives just use this fact to beat leftists over the head, they don’t care.
But many leftists (save myself) are all too quick to ignore imperialist actions from other countries like China (their repeated attempts to invade Taiwan, oppressing Tibetans and Uyghurs), Turkey, and other such non-European imperialists.
It’s a massive oversight on their part.
Often it’s just due to their ignorance of such issues, sometimes.
They may forget. Sometimes.
But still.
Again, I’m saying this as a leftist myself.

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkey appreciates Sweden’s steps so far to get approval to join NATO but it is not even “halfway” through fulfilling the commitments it made to secure Ankara’s support, the Turkish foreign minister said Thursday.
Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said a Swedish court’s decision not to extradite a man wanted by Turkey for alleged links to a 2016 failed coup had “poisoned” a positive atmosphere in negotiations on Sweden’s membership in the military alliance.
Sweden and Finland dropped their longstanding policies of military nonalignment this year and decided to apply to join NATO following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The move requires the unanimous approval of the alliance’s current 30 members.
Turkey has held up the process while pressing the two Nordic countries to crack down on groups it considers to be terrorist organizations and to extradite people suspected of terror-related crimes.
The parliaments of 28 NATO countries have already ratified Sweden and Finland’s membership. Turkey and Hungary are the only members that haven’t yet given their approval.
Speaking at a joint news conference with Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström, Cavusoglu said the Turkish government still was waiting for a “concrete development” on extraditions and asset freezes. Also, some Turkish defense companies were not able to procure some equipment from Sweden despite the lifting of a weapons ban, he added.
“There is a document, it needs to be implemented. We’re not even at the halfway point yet. We’re at the beginning,” he said, referring to a memorandum of understanding which Turkey, Sweden and Finland signed in June.
Under the memorandum, the two countries agreed to address Turkey’s security concerns, including requests for the deportation and extradition of Kurdish militants and people linked to a network run by U.S.-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen. The Turkish government accuses Gulen of masterminding the 2016 coup attempt, which he denies.
Billström’s visit came days after Sweden’s top court refused to extradite journalist Bulent Kenes, whom Turkey accuses of being among the coup plotters. Kenes, who received asylum in Sweden, was the editor of the English-language Today’s Zaman newspaper, which was owned by the Gulen network and the government closed down as part of its crackdown on the group.
“The negotiations ( between Turkey and Sweden ) were continuing in a constructive way,” Cavusoglu said. “But this last (incident), the rejection of Kenes’ extradition, unfortunately, seriously poisoned this atmosphere.”
Billström reiterated that Sweden was determined to fulfill its commitments and said Stockholm was in the process of strengthening its anti-terrorism legislation.
A constitutional amendment will enter into force on Jan. 1 that restricts the freedom of association of groups that engage in or support terrorism, he said.
The Swedish government also plans to introduce legislation that further impedes people taking part in the activities of terrorist groups, Billström said.
“My message to Minister Cavusoglu and to the Turkish people is clear: Sweden keeps its promises. We take the agreement seriously. We have initiated steps on every paragraph and we will continue to implement it,” the Swedish minister said.
Billström later told The Associated Press by phone that Sweden has underlined that cases such as Kenes’ are handled by independent courts.
“We are bound by this decision, and that is how it is,” he said.
Billström said conversations between Sweden and Turkey were taking place at multiple levels of government and that Ankara acknowledged Sweden had made strides in meeting the memorandum’s terms.
He could not give a time frame for when Turkey might be ready to approve Sweden’s NATO membership.
“Meetings are held in a good spirit,” he said. “We are heading in the right direction. We will gradually fulfill this memorandum.”
