Friendship of the Decepticons or struggle with stereotypes?

To be honest, the work of one artist pushed me to this reflection. @skelemoonz ,thank you very much!(✿◠‿◠)

If we look at the entire Transformers franchise, then we often hear that friendship is wonderful and that we need friends, loved ones and relatives! And basically, we hear this from the Autobots.

I read a lot of comics and watched various films or animated series that came out. And friendship in the canon, among the Decepticons, is shown as deliberately failed (Starscream and Skyfire, in G1) or, albeit with a beautiful fleur, but forgotten or specially underdeveloped to a logical end by the authors (Starscream and Alexis, as, for example, in Armada). I'm talking now about the canon, and not about fan variations, if anything.

It's funny that many remember the comics, but remember little about the friendship of the two Decepticons, namely - Ransack and Crumplezone. Indeed, because they had a real strong villainous friendship. Why do many people forget about it? Despite the fact that it is shown with a comic version, but, one way or another. I talked with many persona-fans of TF and most agree that their friendship was shown as a comic effect due to the fact that the very fact of friendship between the Decepticons would not be correctly perceived. Why?

Sometimes in order to show the image of the enemy, it must be humanized and hardened. It should be divided into understandable shares, especially in the children's or family rating. Here are the Autobots: good, kind and honest. And there they are - Decepticons, destrons: bad, traitors, evil. How simple is everything? Good and evil. That is why we do not take the friendship between the Decepticons seriously, it is either a joke or there is no friendship between them. Perhaps this is why the fact of a real friendship between Ransack and Crumplezone remained, unfortunately, not noticed.

As one of my interviewees said: "This? Their friendship? This is something frivolous! "

As soon as something is shown from the side of a joke, everything else immediately becomes frivolous. Perhaps many viewers lack the full effect of the drama, because only then do they begin to perceive certain relationships, indeed, as something worthwhile.

Now, the situation is changing for the better and the Decepticon is not shown as a stereotypical villain who gets up early in the morning and thinks about how to do more villainous evil just for evil. This is well shown in the comics, where Megatron becomes an autobot, where the character develops and he begins to think about his previous actions, etc. And the Decepticons, which have become neutral, are now shown as individuals who can also feel, be friends, and even fall in love.

Perhaps soon the franchise will focus on the personality itself, and not on the classic variation, where the Decepticons are definitely evil, and the Autobots are definitely good.

What will happen next? Time will tell…

And others like the Stunticons, Scorponok (bw), Override, Red Alert (he’s so mom in Cybertron), and Jetfire in Cybertron

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head, so ig the bigger ones I like, but there’s more ofc, transformers is just very nice

In my SG Beast Wars some of the Maximals would have different names due to not having Beast modes. So here are the main Maximals by the begging of season 2, what their color schemes, would be and what toys they would be based off of.

Optimus Primal: Energon Rodimus colored like BW Transmetal Megatron.

Roadbreaker (Rhinox): Prime Breakdrown colored like BW Rhinox's rally toy.

Excellion (Cheetor): RiD15 Sideswipe colored like G1 Wildrider.

Rattletrap (Rattrap): Combiner Wars Groove colored like Cybertron Ransack.

Nyx: Cybertron Evac colored like Animated Wingthing.

Silverbolt: Prime Dreadwing colored like BW Sky Shadow.

4. Which tf character is your favorite in terms of personality?

There are so many I vibe with, but I'll go with the local cryptid, TFP Soundwave. He doesn't show much of his personality, but they made Soundwave such an interesting character in the Aligned Continuity (let's forget about RID15 for a moment) that I can't help but pay attention to him every time he emotes with his body through almost unnoticable movements, his posture, a tilt of his helm, etc.

Otherwise: G1 Perceptor, Armada Red Alert, TFP Ultra Magnus, TFA Prowl, Star Saber, almost every incarnation of Soundwave and dozens of others.

5. Is there a relationship (romantic or otherwise) between tf characters you find interesting?

Hmmm, I'm more of a fan of platonic relationships (it's important to have friends, I wish I had one), so to pick a few I'd go with: Tracks & Blaster & Mirage & Sunstreaker & Sideswipe (I think I forgot someone, it's the largest group), Arcee & Hot Rod & Springer, Strika & Obsidian, Demolishor & Snow Cat, Crumplezone & Ransack, Thundercracker & Buster, everyone & whatever random animal they find, All The Scientists (they're my science bros - I want them to be friends) and I'm leaving out so many other great friendships that escape my mind at the moment.

Romantically, I usually go with either crackships that have sprung from my mind at 3 a.m. or the rarest of rarepairs that (1) make no sense (2) will never work and (3) people will look at me funny because I can't explain why I ship this particular ship. Have some examples: Dreadwing/Wheeljack, Skyquake/Ultra Magnus, Tarn/Deathsaurus, Tarn/Gaogaigar (not entirely TF but it's so funny to me), Ultra Magnus/Side Burn, Skyfire (Jetfire)/Sky Byte, Ambulon/Rossum, and the most recent one is Wheeljack/Warpath.

The more popular ships include: Soundwave/Jazz (/Blaster eventually), Soundwave/Rodimus, Soundwave/Cosmos, Skyfire (Jetfire)/Starscream, Sandstorm/Octane, Knockout/Breakdown, Lugnut/Strika, First Aid/Vortex and occasionally Optimus Prime (Orion Pax)/Megatron (Megatronus) that solely depends on the way it is portrayed, because you have to weed out all the bad versions to see the potential behind it.

(I'll wait until the rest of Earthspark comes out to evaluate how they handled Skywarp/Hashtag <- let's hope they don't ruin it)

On a more general note, it's always interesting to see how they write relationships between siblings and gestalts.

18. Which scene from a tf media is your favorite?

This was such an iconic moment, I think about it quite frequently (TFP Soundwave is also my favorite character overall). I love his characterization in Prime and contrary to the popular opinion, I think he chose the perfect moment to end his vow of silence, because he does it to unsettle his enemies and this shows a level of pettiness he certainly possesses.

Starscream attacking Thrust (and the beginning of his betrayal arc) in episode 34 of Armada is a close second. The music, the expressions, even the voice acting (imo) just adds so much to what is probably one of the best character defining moments in the show.

An autobot defector, the process that turned him into an insecticon left him able to survive injuries that would offline most transformers, it also left him a bit loopy though. Transforms into a stinger weapon for Pestilancer ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Junkions: Recyclus Salvage- The team’s leader with a garbage truck vehicle mode. An inventor he uses scraps and garbage for his inventions. Junkmail- Obnoxious and crude he turns into a mail truck. Packrat- A hoarder who uses his delivery van mode to store his collection. Swirl- The lone neat freak on the planet of Junk he turns into a street sweeper. Hookey- A vehicle repair expert he turns into a tow truck. With Salvage as the torso and head the other four form the limbs of Recyclus.

Transformers G1 Deluxe Insecticons: Barrage, Chop Shop, Ransack and Venom.

I feel like a lot of the g1 transformers could have been avoided if the decepticons just weren't such petty bitches and just... talked to the humans. A lot of the episodes are just, the decepticons causing trouble for the humans by trying to steal/generate power to convert into energon cubes.

It's not even that they consider humans akin to ants- their plans include deceiving humans, working against humans, possibly working with humans (with intent to double-cross, but I can't recall any examples off the top of my head). They remember humans individually.

Literally if the decepticons had just asked, we could have helped them. Not even for payment (although we would have accepted some of that sci-fi tech knowledge)- just so they'd stop destroying our fucking buildings.

Water turbines. The decepticon base is underwater. Tidal turbines were invented in 1970 during the oil crisis. We could have even had talks with marine ecologists on placement for like migrating patterns and shit. Just give them the plans and they'll build it themselves. Helping them help us by leaving our infrastructure the fuck alone

But no. Clearly ransacking the hydro dam once a week and whatever the fuck the Decepticon Day was is a much better plan than having some humility and self-awareness to ask for help from the local populous who just so happen to be organic

About SG Rodimus:

Background:

Rodimus used to be the leader of the Wreckers, a mercenary group based in Nyon. In the beginning of their days, they mostly pillaged and stole for themselves, but expanded to be mercenaries for hire. Very often, they had been hired by the Autobots to kidnap and ransack Decepticons and their outposts, despite not bearing their badge. Soon they were hired to actually fight in the war, under the Autobots. Seeing a grand opportunity, Rodimus and his Wreckers razed and destroyed Nyon, a final testament to their glory and a show for the Autobot cause. Rodimus led them into their first battle, at Praxus-Delta. He walked out alone, the only survivor of the Wreckers. With nowhere else to go, Rodimus honored his contract with the Autobots and continued to stay in their ranks. He was able to move up in the ranks and become a member of the Seekers.

Despite this, Rodimus still remains ambitious, with an eye out for the rank of Prime.

Personality:

Rodimus is very charismatic, for an Autobot at least. He has the ability to be very laid back, but can throw on a serious face when the situation calls for it. His seriousness is often reserved for those with higher ranks than him, while his relaxed attitude is for those lower than he and those in battle. Rodimus can stab a mech in the back just as easily as he can pretend to be their ally, so be warned.

Appearance:

Rodimus is 27 feet tall. He has a very similar frame to G1 Hot Rod, only in black and purple. He also has a… mustache. It makes him look distinguished, he says.

When he led the Wreckers at Hot Rod, he wore his default colors of bright — truly garish in their combination — blues.

Extra:

Despite his Wrecker days being behind him, he still gets a kick out of stealing and looting, especially with company. He is known to sometimes shout “Wreck and ruin!”

He is a very good fighter, despite his somewhat short stature. Rodimus often relies on his blaster or flamethrower, but can swiftly pick up on how to use anything new.

He has modded his frame to be able to push out billows of smoke — a sort of smokescreen. He uses it to confuse mecha during battle. As far as he knows, he cannot “flame out” like his alternative Rodimi can.

While he hasn’t traveled the multiverse extensively, he is aware of the dynamics and existence of alternate universes.

Rodimus is not a Prime. But he wants to be.
