In American Housewife season 5 I think cooking is a metaphor for being queer.

It's not a perfect 1 to 1 comparison but I feel as though it's a close enough comparison that it's worth getting pointed out.

Cooper is a chef at heart, he loves cooking and he's great at it seemingly effortlessly. It's his identity.

An identity that he feels the need to hide from his parents, who view him cooking as a disgrace. His dad even goes as far as to storm out of the dinner when Cooper reveals that he's the one that cooked it, and try to take him away from the people that influenced his son to this,,, lifestyle, for lack of a better word.

This combined with the fact that (while not being canon) him and Oliver are constantly referred to as a couple (and Cooper is never the one denying it! He even seems a bit offended when Oliver denies it so fast or even a bit disappointed at times) makes me think;

Cooper being a chef is an allegory for the queer experience and homophobia from parents.

Her eyes flickered with something for just a moment, staring down at you with a gleam in her eyes- in that second, she didnt resemble the friend who had so willingly taken your tiny, shivering form in, kept you warm and cared for, ensured that no matter what, you were comfortable. The friend who had built you a tiny, makeshift bed that rested on her bedside table- the bed you had to squeeze your eyes shut while lying down, for you knew if you opened them, you'd just see her blushing face... listening to her airy breaths through the night as she watched you, seemingly... exited? Proud?

No. This gaze was different. It was animalistic. One that gazed down at you the same way a homeowner would look at a bug.

It was like an animal staring down at it's prey.

From that day, nothing was the same- not that you minded. You no longer slept in that cute bed, now abandoned on her nightstand- you slept with her.

Goddess was so nice. Goddess took you in, its silly to think you ever saw her as a friend. So lovely. So wonderful.
