[06/03/2025] GDQuest Time!

Today, I spent a bit of time dipping my toes into learning GDScript and minor goofing off for the upcoming microgame.

I thought it it might be difficult to just "wing it" on Godot, and I know I can lose focus pretty quick if I have to completely follow a video tutorial. So, an interactive program like Learn GDScript from Zero by GDQuest was very helpful for familiarizing myself with the syntax.

There were a few quirks when I tried to experiment a bit too much after I solved the practice puzzles--my bad--but this is a really good, digestible resource!

In between taking messy notes on my notebook (moreso to hammer the info further into my head) I doodled a bit for my simple microgame using some of my older characters. It's going to be a simple Tomodachi style game where you just feed the same customer over and over again. I’m not sure if I’ll have enough time to make a feature to “change customers” and its kind of humorous.

Sometimes I got a bit distracted by my music when a song I recognized played, which was also pretty funny. Like this:

What felt pretty weird about GDScript so far was the fact that you didn't need to put semicolons every line. Functions and loops actually require 1 (one) colon once you call them--and you don't even need to close it off with a bracket either! Just, put enough space between the next function and reset it to the appropriate tabspace (?). It makes it feel more lenient than my old languages. I'm already used to it, thankfully!

There are 27 Lessons in total, and it actively encourages us to look further into documentation after we're done so that's something to put on the list too! I might take a look at their tutorials there, if they're as fun as this! Got as far as 17, and I'll finish the last 10 tomorrow.

It still took a bit of time, though, so I'll reward myself with a bit of Deltarune for the rest of tonight! Oh, best part is that I can do it again when we all finally get a taste of Chapter 3 too! Deltarune tomorrow!

I am also thinking of making another tag for script focused/learning-focused days such as these. I'll organize them by language maybe? Yeah let's do that, haha!

I say this as someone with mental disabilities, sometimes you just gotta take the L and do it. Maybe it'll cost you and send you into negative spoons but sometimes you gotta. We have a human debt we owe to one another and we have to fight for each other.

Disabilities make things hard to do safely, without pain, etc. Where you can, seek accomodations, ask for help, live your life, and do good in the world in the ways you can.

What we can't do with our disabilities? We can't sit here and wallow and use them as a shield.

Not on the asks list, but care to share some hebrew-knower insight?

disclaimer that i'm not really a hebrew-knower, i basically only know enough to get through synagogue services. i'm mostly useless when it comes to modern hebrew.

anyway, you're correct in that hebrew doesn't have j, as a phoneme or as a letter. hebrew has י, which is phonetically equivalent to the english y, although it also sort of functions as a vowel in certain contexts (for example חי "chai" which means life)*.

i guess part of what's tricky about transliterating is that the latin alphabet is used for so many different languages and so many of its letters are not consistent in pronunciation, whether it be between languages or even within the same language. so in english j is typically /dʒ/ while in spanish it's more like /x/ or /h/ depending on dialect, and in german and other languages it's more like /j/. to make matters more confusing of course, that hebrew י is pronounced /j/.

so there's no equivalent to english j in hebrew, but due to, like, linguistic history and hundreds of years of translating the bible, a lot of hebrew words with י in them got changed to j or i in transl(iter)ation. you see this a lot in names: יִצְחָק (yitzhak) -> isaac, יְרוּשָׁלַיִם (yerushalayim) -> jerusalem

as far as modern transliteration goes, though, i think english transliterations of hebrew generally use "y" in place of "י". using "j" would be kind of misleading to an english reader considering that "j" represents a different phoneme in english as opposed to other languages. i guess if a german speaker were transliterating hebrew it would make sense. but י in hebrew words/names getting turned into j (/dʒ/) in english is more of a translation than a transliteration.

english j (/dʒ/) can be spelled in modern hebrew but it uses a different letter. it's ג׳. which is like a hard g with a diacritic added. kind of in the same way that english g is hard but softened to /dʒ/ when followed by e or i? it's used for transliteration or loan words, though, it's not really a native hebrew phoneme.

*as a sidenote, ח is pronounced /x/, like the "ch" in german. so i guess if you wanted to piss people off you could transliterate "חי" as "jaj" lol

I had a drs appt like a week ago and she prescribed me some anti anxiety meds, which is great, but my insurance is a piece of shit and requires any maintenence scripts be ordered through their mail order, instead of allowing me to travel 5 mins to my pharmacy to pick them up a day or two after my script is renewed. Current thoughts that plague me:

Oh look, Jensen (without a Jared in sight) made it his mission to get everyone on set to break, including the crew and he purposefully tried to ruin takes. So can all the Jared antis stop claiming that Jared was the devil for doing similar things on spn (with Jensen). And stop claiming that anything Jensen might have done on the spn set had to be Jared's fault because clearly he relishes in doing it on every set, he loves to brag about it.

Link. Time stamp 1:10. What's funny is that in all the SPN behind the scenes and gag reels showed it was mostly Jensen goofing off and breaking other's concentration. One scene I remember was Jensen deliberately knocking a prop out of Jared's hand in middle of filming, of course ruining it so Jared was like, might as well play along now and fake-cried over it. To be fair, this was likely scripted for the (scripted) gag reel, but it doesn't change that 80% of the time Jensen was portrayed as the instigator of pranks and disruptions.

You all know that person who talks about someone they dislike; listing all the traits and qualities this person has that they cannot STAND. That's the Ackles Army stans and Destiel hellers, taking what they perceived the worst qualities in Jensen and/or Misha and project them onto Jared. They only have inferences and hearsays while Jared girls have actual videos lol.

It's why projection is an unstainable behavior because reality never change to fit that distorted views. None of the videos that Jensen participates in is going to change the distorting narratives/propagandas that the AAs and hellers are so desperate putting out, so it drives them even more crazy.

SOME THOUGHTS CAUSE I'M SO GD HAPPY

We continue to get an explosion of stylized color now that Matt's let go of his false life. That cold, washed out, very sterile lighting was VERY sorta Twilight Zone feeling, and it gives all the color and lightning now even MORE of an impact. Those splashes of red when Frank was killing outside the Port, the washes of blue whenever we're seeing from Dex's perspective, the flashes of red with Matt, just (chef's kiss)

Blowing up Matt's new apartment felt like the new writers going 'FINALLY, WOOOOOO OLD SHIT GONE, LIGHT IT UP! LIGHT IT UP! (explosion) WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!' I didn't know they'd get QUITE that literal when it came to torching Matt's false life but here we are (moment of sadness for all his treasures he probably had up there though like his dad's trunk unless he hid that somewhere else, we got the torching but at what cost 😭)

Hilarious realization that the reason Frank was like, 'what, are ya gonna fight em with your ass hanging out???' when Matt got up to go get his suit on while still in the hospital gown, was because Matt really would have just had his bare goddamn ass just out to the breeze in front of Frank. He really didn't give two fucks by that point (probably still a little drugged), and for some reason that had me wheezing over it all over again despite having laughed my OWN ass off when Frank said it in the scene (and then laughed harder when Matt just flipped him off, Matt's NOT had a good day). FRANK GOT TO SEE THE CAKE, WHEN IS IT OUR TURN

I said last week that I was looking at it a bit like, if you'd never gotten close to a dog before and the first time you do it winds up mauling you, yeah, you're going to be afraid of dogs or hate them for a while even if later you realize that's not necessarily logical and that not all dogs are bad. But her complete disregard for Matt's legitimate fear on the danger Fisk represented, to the point of going to work for Fisk? Like... girl no. I'm going to see what they do in S2. Hell, everyone in the Netflix series pulls a major fuckup at least once and they were all given chances to make up for it, so we'll see.

you know what's so gd impressive about ofmd? like, maybe the most impressive part of the whole already very impressive show? how well-rounded the characters are for how little time they have to be on screen

i spent many years in the fandom of another ensemble cast show that had a million seasons and hour-long episodes, and maybe like, five of the characters were worth the time of day. ofmd, tho, not only has an incredibly quality core cast, but even the characters they introduce for five seconds manage to have depth and appeal

take ned low's crew for example. we have a bunch of people who take up maybe a third of the episode's screen time, but by the end, the script and acting are so good that you're rooting for them as they unionize and sail away to greater pastures

then you have characters that are great on their own, but also enhance the main characters in the span of like six seconds

evelyn? a godsend, 11/10, want her back, and she was the impetus for mary taking control back over her life. steak "steaky" knife? rip big man, we knew you for two minutes but loved you, and you gave us slight insight into izzy's history/influence on the republic of pirates. hornigold wasn't even really hornigold and yet we /still/ managed to get backstory about him and learn things that added context to how ed turned into blackbeard

honestly, the amount of talent it takes to be able to make almost every character on the screen someone who either 1. drives the plot forward somehow, 2. is just delightful and entertaining, or 3. is a combination of both, all within a space the size of a needle tip is fucking astonishing. as a professional writer i am horny for how well these mother fuckers hone their craft, and as a fan of the show i'm just extremely well-fed

i've said it before, but this is genuinely so much more than a gay little pirate show (although it is also that, and i love that about it). it has so much artistic depth and everyone involved has talent coming out every orifice. i am so glad i have the privilege of watching it. every part of it is so refreshing, i am genuinely in constant awe

I noticed that the last time I posted a "Storytime until I actually got there", I actually used the summer months in Korea from this reality, and I said "summer, june" so I wanna change that to "March", the summer months in Myanmar (the country that my cr version living in rn) are March to May so I prefer to use the summer months in Myanmar for the Korea in my reality, and I forgot to say that "10 minutes" is not Lee Hyori's song in my reality, it's my song

There's a thing I scripted for korean in my reality (i script everything in my head, I don't have a physical script), it's called 'Kasatela', it's a water festival, it's in April, and it's from April 10th to April 17th, people douse each other with water, we've been celebrating that festival since long time ago, but years past and things changed to better. Kpop idols/singers perform at the place (idk), many celebrities (actors, actresses, producers blah blah etc) come to that place (it's like a celebrity party but we record and release the performances so technically it's a show),

Me and my bestie (Song Ji-hyo) is actually the mc's of that show but sometimes i'm the only mc, let me tell you how that show works, groups and singers perform and there are fans outside but it's just like how MAMA show works, celebrities are there but also there are fans but they are at their place, but Kasatela takes place in the open air, and Kasatela is also a traditional festival so yes we refresh each other with water

okay so about the show, there's a fun thing for the celebrities and the fans to do, after all the groups and singers perform, the fans and the celebrities can vote a group/singer, the most voted group or singer won and get a chance to pour all the icy cold water over the mc with a huge bucket and can choose a song for the mc to perform, and guess what the poor mc is always me!<3 cuz even tho there are two mc, I'm the official mc and the "get punished" mc so my bestie is free but i'm not

But the audience can vote between me and the winner after i performed with the song that the winner chose for me, if i won i can revenge then by pouring the colder and icier water over them with a bigger bucket

BUT it's still not fair enough when they chose a song of a group that made with a lot of members, wdym i had to sing and dance to a song made by a group of 9?? Like wtf? But still I had so much fun doing it

So, here is the real storytime, I was about to go on the stage and do the mc work by calling out the idols that will perform for now, and I was at backstage and I wanted to pee soo bad (I forgot to tell yall that pooping doesn't exist in my reality), so I was abt to go to the toilet but my mom calls and I pick up and start talking with her while on my way to the bathroom, and the toilets are like this

I was talking with my mom so I didn't notice and just turned right cuz most public bathrooms i went before put the girls bathroom on right so I didn't know, and pooping doesn't exist but still normal toilet for girls still exist in the boys bathroom (i think it's for shy boys HAHAH), and the boys pee toilet is too deep inside so it's not my fault that I didn't notice it, i was peeing and while talking with my mom and then when I get out of the toilet i saw GD/ G dragon(the dude I wanted to be my s/o, I still want him but I just wanna script out the s/o thing and just have fun with random people but it can be him tho, i'll call him "my ex s/o" from now on) and T.O.P washing their hands in the sink, I screamed cuz I saw them and I hanged up on my mom so fast, I said "WHY TF ARE YOU GUYS DOING IN THE GIRLS BATHROOM???" In korean, T.O.P look at GD and suddenly GD grab me outside, show me the sign and said "But noona was the one who was in the boys bathroom tho.." (noona means big sis in korean) and I was soooooo embarrassed and just stood there and looking at the sign, he said "It's ok noona" and I told him "DO NOT TELL ANYONE ABOUT THIS OKAY??? IM BEGGING", he laughed and said "Okay okayy", trust me, it's not romantic or something kdramatic, it's so embarrassing

i would watch ConnorDawg play it personally. he's an interesting streamer bc 95% of his videos are CONTENT that I have zero interest in but every few months he does a long video about an Important Video Game and i lowkey wonder if the CONTENT is just there to fund all the editing and script help for the Important videos lmao

Ok I’m gonna bitch about it again. Remake Ashley was done to make her more palatable. That’s it. Nothing about her is “better” than the original. Her outfit is worse and makes less sense given she’s a college student in 2004 and literally 20 year old women dressed like congresswomen like ever, but they changed it so she’d be less sexy than in the original (also why her og costume/pop star outfit weren’t unlockables for her in the remake), her behavior is more muted than she was in the original so people can’t call her a bitch, she says nothing except how scared she is so people will sympathize with her, or how awesome and cool and perfect Leon is so that the players will be endeared to her, she is patriotic so all of the Call of Duty players playing this game will like her, she was made to look older so that people would be more respectful of her, she was given absolutely no personality or backstory or fucking ANYTHING she is even more of a prop character than she was in the original, Leon doesn’t even seem as concerned about her as he was in the original so that player characters can assign how much they care about Ashley to him (and bc Leon isn’t allowed to have any emotions besides 🙁 in this game but hush this post is about Ashley) they removed the healing mechanic so people wouldn’t get mad they had to use their resources on her but instead of replacing it with another unique mechanic for Ashley they just didn’t include it so there’s even less investment in how she’s doing, they made her screams more muted so that people wouldn’t complain about it, they got rid of the dumpster hiding so people wouldn’t call it degrading but as such she only hides like two times in total in this game, they make it so it’s never her fault when she’s captured because gd forbid women make mistakes or act impulsively so they can apologize for it later in a genuinely sweet moment, they removed her being allowed to do anything violent by stunning shields of armor with no humans in her playable section whereas in the original she MURDERED people by burning them to death i guess so she’s more innocent and nice, they give her like two scripted moments of “helping” Leon so players will be endeared to her and instead of caring about Ashley in those moments the focus is on how Leon is doing and therefore fans will not shut up about how Ashley needs to take care of this white mask and mother him and be responsible for him and I’M FUCKING TIRED OF IT
