Major Stevens Impulse is basically Pearl's right hand man. He often accompanies Pearl or Gem during field work and sometimes research. He's a skilled marksman and physically stronger than Pearl and Gem (that is, without the use of their alchemy). Pearl and Gem are also notoriously bad at watching their backs, though they joke that it's just to give Impulse something to do.

This is really self indulgent but I rewatched black clover again and kept thinking of a bc au

Gem doesn't understand Avian culture, like at all. So when Pearl brought up that her wings needed some preening, Gem happily volunteered without knowing how intimate that is for avians. Gem doesn't know why Pearl kept blushing and stuttering!

Another example of this is when Pearl gave Gem one of her feathers. Gem was confused at first, but she accepted it. She proudly displayed it on her neck as a necklace. She doesn't know why Pearl basically jumped around in joy when she next saw her. Oh- Pearl kissed her. Hm. GRIAANNNN HELPPP!!!

Grian was fully planning to tease Gem. He really was! 'Can you give me lessons on avian dating culture' is far too perfect an opportunity.

And then Gem turned up with a notebook. And started taking notes as Grian talked. At that point, it gets too absurd even for him to make a joke of...

i do enjoy skyblings, i think they have a fun dynamic and everything. the problem is the fandom makes it as a way for grian to bounce off a female character, instead as a relationship between two silly cubitos. there is barely any basis for them being siblings, and there’s something to be said about the fandom designating every duo as either familial or romantic because platonic relationships aren’t black and white enough, but that’s another ask.

they don’t even talk that much on hermitcraft (when they do it’s very fun and i enjoy watching their duo, but still), which is why during season 10 gem has sort of replaced pearl in the “grian’s female sibling” role because she interacts with him more and fits the blueprint of “chaotic gremlin but not outwardly chaotic enough to overshadow grian” better.

anyway if you don’t believe me i checked ao3 and in the skyblings tag there are 177 fics tagged as grian-centric and 34 fics tagged as pearl-centric, and 10 of those 34 were tagged grian-centric as well. there’s always going to be a gap in popularity in any duo, but for skyblings it is vastly, vastly skewed which is why i’ve always slightly side-eyed the skyblings fanon.
