You walked into the gym noticing the basketball team having practice today. You stop in your tracks looking at one of the players make his shot in the hoop. You're quite impressed to say the least. That’s until you hear someone call your name, making you turn your head. You see, it's Lee Heeseung. The popular jock everyone would say. To cut it short he’s your boyfriend. A dream come true, right? You don’t know how, but you managed to catch his attention during one of his games. Heeseung fell in love with you in mere seconds. Oh how you were so cute with your glasses. Focused on the game. He wanted you to be focused on him. But this was during your sophomore year of college. Which was 2 years ago. Now senior year.
“Hey Yn!” Heeseung runs towards you pulling you into a hug. You hugged him back trying to not get his sweat onto you.
“Babe you’re sweating..” you say looking up at him. He only chuckles before kissing your forehead. Letting go of the hug. “Can you stay for practice, of course if you’re not busy..” you smile at his consideration. “I’ll stay. That’s why I came here in the first place..” Heeseung smiles at you before running back to the court.
You sit on the bleachers, watching him practice. That’s until you notice his teammate. You don’t know his name. But all you know is that he is a very very good player. Almost making everyone shot. No one noticed..or so you thought.
But heeseung did. Despite you being sort of far away from him. He can see your stares at the guy. He had no problems with the guy. But he did it the way you were staring at the guy and not him. You should only be looking at him. Heeseung was tapped on the shoulder, causing him to look away from you before focusing on practice.
Hour later, practice finally ended. You sit up and stretch your body before walking down to heeseung. “You did well today…” you said handing him a towel and a bottle of water. Heeseung nodded. Odd he would usually hug you with his sweaty body. You stand awkwardly. Hoping he would say something. Heeseung grabs his bag before dragging you by your hand, taking you to his car. Heeseung unlocks his car before making you get in. You felt something incredibly wrong. You wait for him to enter the driver's seat. You both sit there in awkward silence. “You okay?” You finally decided to ask. Heeseung stays quiet for a bit before sighing. “No..” No, what happened? You’re sure nothing bad happened at practice, everything went just fine. “N-no why?” You slightly stuttered on your words due to you being nervous. “Ha- why? You should know this princess already..” Already know? What did you do? You’re sure you didn’t do anything wrong. “I know?”
“Yes..you know..” you shake your head, denying it “I don’t..what do you mean…” Heeseung turns to face you looking straight into your eyes.. “I mean why were you staring at that guy and not me?” Oh, he was jealous. This wasn’t the first time. He gets jealous easily, it’s bad to the point he almost sent someone to the hospital. “Oh..umm..” You never liked him being jealous. Jealous heeseung scares you the most. Taking his anger out on you by marking you. “Sorry..it’s just that I found it impressive how well he was playing..”
“So you think I’m not good?” “What no, I never said that..he’s just good, but not better than you..” You tried to explain yourself. Hoping you’ll get him to calm down a bit. Heeseung only looked at you before turning to the steering wheel, turning on the car. He starts driving back to his place.
Once you arrive at his place. You get out of the car, meet with Heeseung, opening the door aggressively. You took a step in, him following you after slamming the door with a loud thund. Which made you startled, Quietness filled up the room until heeseung shoved you against the wall kissing you aggressively. Lips meshing together. Tongue kissing to be exact. Heeseung grips your waist harshly before grabbing your wrist leading you into his bedroom. He pushes you onto the bed. “You think I’m good huh..? Bet I’m better at him at fucking..” you can feel yourself getting wet. Heeseung doesn’t waste time, quickly pulling down your pants revealing your soaked through panties. “Such a slut, already wet..” your legs close automatically because of his words. Heeseung smirks at this. “I see you like being called slut? Don’t you slut?” You nodded your head making him snicker, “words.” He said firmly.
You shiver slightly, “yes I like being called a slut..” Heeseung goes back to kissing you. Removing each piece of clothing on your body leaving you bare naked once he pulls away. “Fuck so pretty, such a pretty little slut..” He removes his clothes before making you lay on your back.. You start to feel his fingers graze over your bare pussy making you moan slightly.. “Hmm..what’s that slut? Enjoying this so much?” Heeseung doesn’t let you respond, before shoving a finger inside of you. You try to hold in your moan, keeping quiet. “Awee slut holding in her moans, Don’t..need everyone to hear how much of a slut of you are. My slut..” you do as said and begin moaning softly. Not caring anymore if anyone can hear you. Heeseung begins to move his finger inside of you faster..
“Should I add another finger..” Heeseung says, looking at you, waiting for your answer. “Yes.” Uh oh heeseung didn’t like that. “Can’t say just yes slut need you to beg for my finger. Since one finger can’t please you..” You whimper at his words.. “Please..baby..wanna come..wanna come so so so bad.. just for you..” you hoped that was enough to convince him. Heeseung smirks at you before slowly shoving another finger inside. Now you have 2 fingers inside of you pleasuring you. Your moans got louder and louder. You could feel your high coming before he abruptly stops. You whine..at the missing feeling. Heeseung pulls his fingers out.. licking your wet slick on his fingers moaning at the taste…
“Time to fuck you..so you know who you belong to..” Fuck.. you prepare yourself what’s to come. Heeseung places his tip on your pussy before pushing himself inside your warm pussy. He moans out loud at the feeling of you clenching around him. You try to get used to his size. Heeseung doesn’t give you enough time to get used to him though, he starts thrusting into you at a fast pace. You’re already moaning out loud, vey the neighbors can hear you both. Maybe even the sound of skin slipping against each other. Both of Heeseung's arms beside your head, supporting himself up. Heeseung leans in kissing you. You moan into the kiss. Enjoying the feeling of his tip hitting your cervix and his mouth on yours. You can slightly taste yourself on his tongue. You start tightening around him, feeling your high getting closer. So heeseung quickened his pace. The sound of skin slapping getting louder. You can feel his balls slap against you. And before you knew. You can feel his load enter you..filling you up so good. Heeseung collapses on top of you, breathing hard.
“You did so well..” heeseung wraps his arms around you, cuddling you. You smile at him before kissing his nose.. “Did I hurt you in any way..?” You shook your head. “No I’m fine, don't worry..”
“We gotta shower, especially what just happened and practice today..I’m already sweating more than I was earlier.” You giggled at his words before cuddling him longer. Maybe you should make him jealous more often..yeah that sounds like a good idea.

piece of cake
summary: meeting miles g at a bakery, and other happenings. wc: 3k+ warning: blood, grief (more at the periphery, not a major theme), and lightly implied mommy issues a/n: ngl i was hungry asf when i wrote this. why can't i ever write normal fluff fics anymore. first fic of 2024!!
Brooklyn Middle is closed for winter break. The basketball court where the snow-covered hoop no longer has a net is empty, save for the blinking Christmas lights strung across the chain-link fence.
In a few years, the pizza place across the street where students would linger after school will be demolished, replaced by a shiny new Oscorp building that reflects the sun from all angles of its glass exterior. But for now, the place is just closed early for the holidays, a few blocks away from a bakery.
The tall, bear-like frame of a father dressed in a long black overcoat can be seen entering with a wiry young boy in a red hoodie and bomber jacket tailing close behind. He has an afro as opposed to his father’s closely-cropped hair. The boy keeps trying to straighten his posture - as if his spine would suddenly lengthen and his shoulders would broaden from the act alone. He wants to make himself look important today, because he is on a top-secret mission:
Operation: Get Mom a Cake.
“I think mom’ll like that one.”
The boy points at a slice of tres leches cake sitting behind a glass display. It’s not as flashy as the other decorative cakes drizzled with chocolate and strawberries or encased in pink frosting, but those wouldn’t melt on the tongue the way tres leches did.
His father raised an eyebrow at the plain slice, but the boy looked at him with a certainty that he’d never seen before, through eyes nearly identical to his mother’s. The man knew then that he was getting an expert opinion.
“Alright, if you say so,” he chuckled, adjusting his glasses. “We’ll take that one, Val.”
The boy smiled proudly at the older woman as she handed him the pink box containing the cake. Mission accomplished.
Now, he looks up and frowns at the Oscorp building blocking the view of where his old school used to be as he picks at a slice of cake with a plastic fork.
The ‘Employees Only’ door behind the counter swings open, and Valeria Cruz hobbles out, removing her apron.
“It’s almost your shift, Miles, hurry up and finish that cake.”
Miles takes one more bite before rising from his seat near the entrance and pushing the paper plate and half-eaten slice into a small trash can.
“You got it, Miss V.”
“Did you take out the trash?”
He pauses, and his eyes widen.
“I’mma get that done right now, Miss V!”
The woman sighs, running a hand through gray and white-streaked curls as the teen sprints out the door and back outside.
A forest green puffer jacket rushes past you on the sidewalk. It’s the same one you had seen shuffling out of the back entrance of Val’s bakery the other morning, lugging two black garbage bags with a purple hoodie obscuring the stranger’s face.
He probably works there, then, you think. Good. She could use the help.
The place had been packed the week before Officer Morales’ funeral, and for several weeks after. But over time, business began to slow down to a trickle. Hipster cafés and towering condos sprang up and choked out the little pizza shops and restaurants that took their owners’ last names, like when an invasive species of plant grows taller than the local varieties and smothers them, blocking out the sun.
You had been seeing Val’s face since you were in diapers. Families used to go there for birthdays, for elementary school graduations, middle school graduations - or sometimes just to grab something sweet to eat after church on Sundays. You continued the tradition–even if just to buy a tiny bag of cookies–in the hopes that the place might still be standing for your high school graduation.
The bell above the door rings to signal your entrance. The once baby pink wallpaper has begun to fade, but the late-afternoon sun makes it feel as vibrant as it did when you were twelve. Valeria is standing in front of the display of freshly-baked pastries with her apron folded neatly over her arm.
“Oh, were you about to close up shop?” You begin to take backward steps. “I can come back later–”
“No, no, sweetie, it’s fine!” The woman waves her hand, beckoning you to stay. “I was just about to go on my lunch break. I have someone about to take over for me.”
“It’s cool, I can wait. I saw somebody taking out the trash, that him?”
She sighs wearily, “That’s him, alright. He’s a good kid, but he’s always–”
“Sorry I’m late!”
In rushes Mr. Green Jacket through a chilly gust of wind, who turns to nod in greeting towards you before weaving past Val and behind the counter, where he disappears through the ‘Employees Only’ door.
“That boy, I swear. Never on time!”
He reappears sans the jacket, wearing a white apron identical to the one Val is holding. The name tag on it reads ‘Miles’.
Miles. Where have you heard that name before…?
The hood on his sweater is no longer pulled over his head, revealing two neat cornrows that cascade all the way down his neck. The surrounding hair has been shaved and faded at the nape of his neck and hairline. He’s the sort of brown-skinned that looks golden when the sunlight hits his face as he approaches the cash register.
“You gonna be alright for the next half hour?” asked Val with an eyebrow raised.
Miles drummed his fingers on the counter and grinned. “Yup, I got it.”
“Don’t destroy anything while I’m gone!”
“I won’t, promise.”
She pushes the door open with a skeptical look and leaves.
With this new stranger temporarily in charge, you carefully approach the counter. He looks up at you with curious brown eyes.
“Whatchu want?”
“Um…” you blink before remembering what you were here for. “Just sugar cookies, please.”
“How many?”
“Five.”
He turns to grab a paper bag, then bends to drop the desired amount of cookies into it with the pair of tongs that sit on the inside of the display.
“If you don’t mind my asking, what school you go to? I haven’t seen you around here before, feel like I’d remember you if I had.”
Miles pops his head over the counter and tilts his head with a cheeky grin.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
You avoid eye contact, shifting from one foot to the other. Suddenly it’s not so cold anymore.
“I-I don’t know. You just seem memorable.”
He laughs a raspy, breathy laugh and hands you the bag of cookies over the counter. His hand is much larger than yours with slender fingers at the end of it, but still manages to appear almost clumsy-looking. Big enough to be a man’s, but with only half the dexterity.
“I go to Visions.”
“Fancy. You like it over there?”
“It’s aight. Kinda uptight, but my dad always said it was a ‘good opportunity’, so I stayed.”
You hum in consideration.
“Can't do everything for your parents, though. They'll have you living their dreams before you know it.”
The smile fades a bit, and Miles averts his gaze.
“Well my dad passed, so I just figured I’d just do this one thing for him.”
You cover your mouth with your palm.
“I'm so sorry, I–”
“It's fine,” he snorts without any humor. “You might be the only one that doesn't know who my daddy is. Kind of a relief.”
Miles encloses the money you just gave him in the slot beneath the cash register with a loud snap.
“You need anything else?”
You chew on your bottom lip in embarrassment and clutch your bag of cookies.
“No. Thank you.”
He doesn’t look up from the register.
“Have a nice day.”
Your mother is leaning on the window sill, nibbling on a granola bar when you get back home. She’s silent, which means she is observing. You’ll need to tread carefully.
“I brought cookies.”
She gives you a sidelong glance.
“Val’s cookies?”
“Yup, same as always.”
“That lady still working there all by herself?”
“She hired somebody to help out, actually - I saw a boy working the register.”
She notices the upward inflection in your voice at the mention of a boy, which interests her more than the cookies.
“What’s he look like?”
“He’s got, um,” you make a gesture over your head. “Twin braids–cornrows–and a green jacket? Kinda tall, too.”
Your mother nods, thoughtful. The description rings a bell, but she needs to confirm.
“You catch his name?”
“Miles, I think.”
“Lord,” she gasps, fully turning to face you. “That’s that Morales boy! I used to work with his momma, bless her heart. Barely saw his face after the funeral.”
The image of Miles’ face at the mention of his dad makes you cringe at your comment earlier. How could you not recognize him? He practically stole his face from the mural that was plastered above the precinct. You had only heard the boy’s name uttered once by your mother over the phone at 2:00 A.M., whispered like a secret.
“I can’t imagine how it must be for Miles. Didn’t he just get into that nice school down there? Of course they’ll have to let him go home. He should be with his mother.”
“He was such a sweet little boy. Then I saw him the other day?”
She shook her head, “Look like a different person. He had them flashy studs in his ears, nose pierced and everything.”
She wrinkles her nose. “Wouldn’t be surprised if he had tattoos under that coat as well. Damn shame.”
“He seemed nice when I saw him,” you remark quietly in a weak attempt to defend his character, despite having known him for all of five minutes. “Sweet, like you said.”
Your mother’s face hardens, all of her attention now focused on you as she folds the wrapping of the granola bar.
“That’s why you’re not bringing no boys home ‘till you’re eighteen,” she sharply reminds you. “‘Seems nice’ - How you know if he’s really nice or not?”
Again, Miles’ face appears in your mind’s eye. He didn’t seem to want your pity - rejected it, even. And what of his apparent chronic lateness?
Still…
“You don’t know that, either,” you say despite yourself. “I spoke to him while I was there.”
Your mother’s eyes narrow.
“Girl, I know that look. I better not see you runnin’ around with that boy, understand me?”
She looks set on not changing her mind now, so you only nod in defeat.
“Yes, ma’am.”
In your head, you’re already making plans to hit up the bakery tomorrow - both to apologize and to see the sun kissing Miles’ face again. Maybe tomorrow he’d even have the piercings in.
But when you get there the next day under the guise of ‘a trip to the corner store’, Miles isn’t at the register.
The sky has turned a pale shade of gray, and it has begun to drizzle. Pulling your navy blue coat tightly around you, you consider turning back around when–
Boom!
The sound of something hitting a trash can from behind the establishment catches your attention. It could be him taking out the trash at the last minute again.
Your assumption is proven only halfway correct.
Stepping over discarded boxes and tin cans, you find Miles doubled over, clutching his side. “Are you okay?”
Startled, bloodshot eyes glance at you before focusing on the ground.
“Fucking fantastic,” he grunts painfully.
As you get closer, you can see a dark stain blooming from where his hand is. A sick feeling swirls in your stomach.
“Oh my God, do you need me to call somebody?”
“Nah, I’m…I’m straight,” Miles says through labored breaths. “I just gotta…patch myself up before I get home.”
You whip out your phone and frantically unlock it.
“I’m calling an ambulance.”
“Hell no–”
“You are bleeding!”
He tilts his head towards a duffle bag lying near his feet.
“I got First Aid in there…that’ll do me just fine.”
When he tries to reach for the bag, his knees give out, causing him to collapse right next to it.
-
Miles shivers as you gingerly wrap white bandages around his waist, the flat expanse of skin on his stomach partially exposed to the elements. He fades in and out of consciousness, between your face and black nothingness. When he’s awake, he stares up at you in disbelief.
“I didn’t call 9-1-1, if that’s what you’re wondering,” you tell him with a grin. “This should stop the bleeding, but I can’t help you beyond that.”
“Wusyaname?” he mumbles, head lolling towards you. He’s on the brink of passing out again.
“Call me (Y/N).”
“Wasn’t gon’ call you anything else.”
“Shut up, I just saved your life.”
“Mmmm-hm,” Miles hums with a lazy smile that makes you wonder if he’s becoming delirious.
“Eeeeverybody loves sayin’ that. Everybody always…”
His eyelids get heavy before he can finish the thought, and he finally blacks out again in your lap.
-
There’s a short line inside the bakery that weekend, and you wonder if Miles has anything to do with it.
Word seemed to get around mysteriously fast that the former teenaged recluse had come out of hiding after that conversation (if you could even call it that) with your mother. From where you’re sitting–by the window, nibbling on a sugar cookie, observing–Miles does not seem to enjoy the attention.
Or maybe you’re just imagining the strained smile on his face as the line of customers becomes a Greek chorus of gasps and squeals.
“You got so big!”
“What did you do to your hair?”
“Oh, you look just like Jeff.”
“How’s Rio?”
“Good to see you out and about again.”
The sparkling curiosity is nearly drained from his face by the time he joins you at the end of his shift with a slice of cake. He does not have the fabled nose piercing in, but two diamond studs sparkle when the light hits them every time he moves his head.
“So?”
“So…?”
“Are you alright after I found you the other day? I saw you limping back there.”
Miles rolls his eyes.
“I’m fine. My mom’s literally a nurse. She got me straight.”
“What’d you tell her? Looked like you broke a rib.”
“Far as she’s concerned, I fell off my bike.”
“I’ve never seen you on a bike.”
“Doesn’t mean I don’t have one.”
You shrug. Touche.
“What did you have to say to me that was worth stalking me after my shift?”
“Stalking?”
“You buy the same thing every time, you think I ain’t notice?” Miles smirks, like a detective who’s just gotten a confession. “Who goes to a bakery and only gets cookies?”
“Lay off me, man, these are excellent,” you take another bite for emphasis. “Anyways, I actually came to apologize.”
His brows furrow in confusion. “For what?”
“For what I said the first time I saw you. I didn’t know you were that Miles.”
The corners of Miles’ lips pull downwards into a frown.
“That’s it?”
“Mm, well…”
You bite your lip by force of habit.
“I also wanted to talk to you again. Under better circumstances. That your favorite type of cake?”
Miles looks down at his plate when you point to it with your fork, as if he’s seeing it for the first time.
“Yeah, tres leches. What about it?”
“I dunno, I just always see you eating that and nothing else. Is there a reason?”
You expect to say something about the sweetness, or the texture, but instead he answers:
“It always tastes the same.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, like…” He puts down his fork and starts to construct an analogy in his head.
“It’s like when you see an ice cream truck. You run up to it before it drives off, and what do you ask for? First thing that pops into your head?”
“Vanilla?”
“Exactly. You could try one of the other ones, but what if it tastes like ass? Now you stuck eating something you don’t like–”
“And it’s a waste of money.”
“Exactly!” Miles laughs. “You get it. My mom makes fun of me because I’ve been eating the same thing since I was five. But it’s always good! And the same amount of good.”
“Can’t argue with that.”
You tap your nails on the table, thinking.
“But what if you find a new flavor that you really like?”
He shrugs, “Then lucky me, I guess. But that doesn’t tend to happen.”
“It could happen, though.”
He watches the strange way you eat. Slowly, teeth-first, as if you’re afraid to make a mess. It’s weirdly dainty, which makes him chuckle beneath his breath.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“Uh-uh, don’t do that. What’s so funny?”
Miles gives you that same head tilt again.
“It’s cute, the way you eat.”
Your hand freezes just as it’s about to lift another cookie to your mouth, and you stare at him blankly.
“That’s…”
He pauses too.
“...Weird, yeah. Sorry. I dunno why I said that.”
A beat of silence passes that’s so heavy with awkwardness, that the two of you can’t help but burst into poorly-stifled laughter.
You lean forward with your chin resting in your hand. “That’s fine. I kept coming here just to spy on you, so I guess I’m weird, too.”
“Ah, so you admit it!”
“Hey, if I wasn’t bein’ a total creep, you might’ve bled out next to the garbage dump. Val can’t lose a valuable employee, right?”
“If you put it that way.”
You can see the white of some of Miles’ teeth peeking out as he smiles. One of his canines is charmingly crooked, and sharper than the others. When the smile fades, he suddenly looks uncertain.
“Can I ask you a question this time?”
“Ask away.”
“Do you wanna make this,” he gestures between you, “like, a regular thing? Y’know, ‘meeting under better circumstances’.”
It’s your turn for a smile to spread across your face.
“We should. Whatever you did to end up bleeding out in the rain, I guess I’d be a witness now.”
“M-hm. Can’t have you yappin’ about that to my customers,” He plays along, then winks. “I’mma need your number too, just in case.”
Just before you reach for your phone in your pocket, you hear your mother’s voice in your head, casting a shadow over the whole thing and giving you pause.
All jokes aside, Miles had never explained what had landed him in that predicament behind the bakery in the first place. He’s always late. He lies to his mother. You’re about to lie to your mother.
But the sun is hitting his face again, and with the light bouncing off of his pupils, he looks like he couldn’t hurt a fly. The shadow remains at the corner of your eye. Just the corner.
You grin and hand him your phone.
“You got it. Just in case.”

Shenanigans
☆ Iñaki can definitely be troublesome if he's bored. I'm talking face/body paint cosplays, hiding your things, pranking you with his perfect acting skills type of trouble
• its truly hilarious and a bit concerning to catch him with his whole face green and a dinosaur stuffed hat clipped around his head
☆ "ki.." he has his back to you and stares at the walls like there much more important
• will scream over games in his phone, for instance if iñaki runs out of time and fails a challenge you can here him crying out from the bathroom
☆ he suggests the craziest things on tiktok and you are a sucker for a good time despite you both hating to clean up behind yourselves. You have an eighteen minute long video of you both slipping on the soapy kitchen floor btw ;p
• iñaki often walks around your apartment a bit weirdly so he's bound to stub a toe or bump his shoulder into the edge of the wall, always cursing in Spanish which makes you burst into laughter
☆ you both truly are unfiltered around eachother and hes feels so lucky that he got two for one, (you're not only his best friend but your his girlfriend too.) Iñaki thinks that's epic
• skating time is sublime.
• "you– geezer, just hold onto me?" You laughed as Iñaki rolled around the skating ring like an elder on life support, he obliged but that cost you with the way he gripped your hands.
☆ "Damn, kiki!"
• "Slow down!!" He wobbled.
☆ "We not going no damn where!"
• on the court he will demolish you. Iñaki's always in your face, running around you as he dribbles the ball and shoots, it hits the rim sometimes
☆ "you're ass.." you kick some pebbles as he jogs for his rebound and runs back to you with a grin. Sweat beading at his forehead and wetting the roots of his curls.
• "oh? well then you make the hoop" you both are nearly the same height but he's still slightly taller. (He looks scrumptious in loose tanktops fyi) The basketball is pushed to you as you roll your eyes and take it. Iñaki situates beside you and watches you move forward but hands on your hips pull you back.
☆ "Do it from here." You got ready to argue but just huffed and dribbled the ball once to make sure it was hard enough and not flat. Your dominant arm bended and launched the ball for the edge of the square. It rolled around the rim but fell off and Iñaki suppressed a laugh.
• he talks so fast in English and Spanish that you often tell him to slow down. He laughs at that because he's still getting used to someone truly listening instead of talking over him
☆ iñaki flexes his facial hair and that often gains your attention so he ends up getting his mustache and sideburns cleaned up while you're on his lap
• "please amor, don't cut it too much."
☆ "shh shh, look?" You raised the mirror and when he saw the results iñaki felt ten times more flashier and he thanked you with a big kiss of course
• bro looses his marbles when he can't find his glasses and you love to watch him suffer as he looks everywhere while their RIGHT ONTOP OF HIS HEAD.
Tumblr media
The sweet things
☆ he needs to have you by his side but doesn't like to really admit it so when you're doing something or simply lounging around he'll come to you like puppy and lean on you, or play with/link your hands

This 1980 suburban home in Long Beach, CA just doesn't look like a $1,999,500 house and it was reduced $90.5K! I thought it was stucco, but it's actually brick that they painted beige. It has 4bd, 4ba, but it's a classic example of you never know what's going on inside a house.
Tumblr media
I would never have expected this elegance. Sheesh! Look at the gleaming marble floors, marble fireplace and Greek columns. Again, I'm not going to show the photos w/the stupid Photoshopped furnishings that the realtor did.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't understand this. Sliding doors to a stucco outdoor room with open wood 2x4s. It's weird. Doesn't tie in with the decor and looks awkward.
Tumblr media
Now, moving toward the kitchen area, this space with a double fireplace is a family room with a dining area to the right, and doors to the patio.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The kitchen's very spread out, but it has a good work triangle corner. I like the black farm sink and notice that there's a plant window over the sink. The backsplash is the marble look.
Tumblr media
The basement is huge and has lots of lighting.
Tumblr media
Interesting bar. Looks like those are seats on the other side of cabinets?
Tumblr media
Then, in the corner there's a kitchenette.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's a shower room down here with a urinal, but I can't say there's a toilet, b/c I don't see one.
Tumblr media
Now, we're on the 2nd fl. and there's this space that seems to be overlooking the 1st fl.
Tumblr media
The spacious primary bedroom has a vaulted ceiling and a private terrace.
Tumblr media
The terrace overlooks the pool.
Tumblr media
Large bath.
Tumblr media
Plus, a closet/dressing room.
Tumblr media
I don't care for the pink glass windows in this bedroom, b/c this is a modern home and they look cottage-y.
Tumblr media
En-suite for this bedroom.
Tumblr media
Large patio in the back of the home.
Tumblr media
Very nice pool.
Tumblr media
There's another garage back here with a basketball hoop. They've made the most of a .27 acre lot.

I walked through the doors of my homeroom. There is no way I'm doing this. My first day as a junior felt like walking on clouds. My feet felt so right against the carpet of my classroom.
Most people wouldn't be that excited to be a junior for the first day after summer but my brain couldn't get the thought of high school out of itself.
My seat was right next to a window that perfectly showcased the basketball hoops that were next to the outside lunch tables.
It took me a second to breathe in the new classroom scent that was filled with what seemed like sweaty, tired, bad breath, auras but the scent of all my friend's body mists canceled it out. I waved to a couple of the girls that surrounded my desk. I felt lucky to have friends who waited for me.
I rushed myself to the corner of the room and sat down next to the friends who weren't late, hugging every one of them. Then my best friend, Lily. I wrapped my arms around Lily's waist which was covered by a custom Taylor Swift cardigan that was purple to match the Speak Now album.
"Holy shit you got it!?" I tugged on the very bottom of the softly knitted cardigan in awe.
"Yup!" Lily spun around with her hands spread out like a princess in her very first wedding dress.
You could probably see hearts of jealousy forming in my eyes. I've always wanted one of those cardigans. Looks like I'd just have to steal it from Lily sometime sooner or later.
The seat was hard with a dip in the middle which was familiar and normal but still got me all excited. This is the seat I'd be in for the next whole year (probably a couple of weeks before someone claims I'm creeping them out, forcing the teacher to move my seat.)
------------------------------------------------------------
I had in one airpod while the rest of the class walked in the doors. Sulking and dragging their feet across the floor. How could anyone not be excited about a day like this? Beats me.
I took no time to pull out a notebook and pens and pencils, writing down almost every word that my teacher said about how this year would go. My focus was nowhere but between my paper and my teacher's face.
Until I accidentally slipped an eye out of the window. My eyes were met with a blonde ponytail rushing across the blacktop. The girl was looking back and forth between the floor in front of her and the basketball hoops. I could feel her stress through the glass window.
Soon enough, the door of my classroom swung open to reveal the same blonde girl, still painted with the same stress but now that I could see her face it seemed cuter that she was in such a rush. A couple of balls of sweat fell down her face while the teacher gave her a 'how are you late on the first day' kind of look.
She had on a pair of gray sweatpants and a dark red hoodie that almost perfectly matched her shoes. As I looked her up and down, the teacher sent her my way. That's when our eyes met for the first time. It felt like I was looking at the sky. Her face was still flushed with a light pink hue and was identical to her lips. She looked like she did not want to be here, let alone be seated next to a 16-year-old swiftie.
She sat down with a huge huff and let her legs naturally separate. I couldn't keep my eyes off of her so to not seem creepy I had to talk to her. I'm almost positive that the teacher just thought I was filling her in on what had been said earlier but I was not. For the first time in a while, I wasn't focusing on what my teacher was saying. I wasn't taking down everything she said and putting it in my notebook. Instead, I was looking into the eyes of who was now my biggest crush.
"Hey! I promise you from what I've heard, this class is not as bad as it seems. I heard they'll be a shit ton of group projects maybe we could do some of them together?"
I was always told that I was a chatterbox and I needed to stop being so open and welcoming to people. that didn't stop me ever. I could tell that she was trying to ignore me but eventually, she gave in and looked me in the eye again. Her face was pretty blank but I could see right behind her dull-looking eyes that she wanted someone kind in this class. Maybe I'm just obsessed with reading people but it feels pretty accurate to me
"Thank you but I'm good," she said, quickly shutting down my excitement of the conversation.
I let out a sharp breath and looked back at my desk. At least I tried.
------------------------------------------------------------
The rest of the class was calm for me. Probably miserable for the blonde. Just as I was getting up to leave the classroom after our bell rang, I realized that I didn't even know her name. And of course, I was far too nervous to go talk to her again so I had to suffer the feeling of not knowing my own crush's name.
Then I was saved.
She walked out of the room right in front of me and was greeted by another girl, she looked like her best friend.
"Paige!" the girl squealed wrapping her arm around Paige's shoulder.
Paige.
I decided that I had been walking behind the two girls for long enough. To the point where my blood started to boil and the sight of the two being so exhilarated to see each other. I know I had just "met" Paige but I wanted that to be me. I wanted to be close to her.
I slowly slipped past the two girls and walked up to Lily, hugging her again. As hard as I tried, my face was still red from thinking about Paige. and Lily could tell.
"What's up with you?" She said nudging my shoulder.
My eyes widened once I realized that my face was burning up.
"Oh uh, nothing! it was just really hot in that classroom. That's why I'm hot no other reason. I mean it is August, and late summer is always the hottest here I mean when I tell you I was sweating so much in that class it was crazy. You're lucky you didn't have to be put through that heat heh." That was when I realized I was rambling. Only getting redder by the second.
"That's why I'm red." I rubbed the back of my neck while hiding my face.
Lily's eyebrows furrowed in. She saw right through me.
She shook whatever lie I was pushing out of my mouth and kept on walking toward her next class. passing period was around 7 minutes so once she went into her next class I took the time to go to the bathroom and touch up my lipgloss. I had a feeling that that would happen every passing period now.
------------------------------------------------------------
Paige's pov
It was lunch now and I still couldn't get that girl out of my head. I barely even remembered how she looked I just remembered her voice. soft and welcoming. I honestly loved it. her words rang through my head all day and I wish I was a bit more nice in class. I was secretly hoping that we would have at least two classes together because she seemed like the nicest person to come up to me.
It only took me a couple of minutes to finish the lunch I had made earlier this morning. The only reason I finished eating so quickly was to get to the outside basketball court before any of the cocky and annoying guys did.
There was already a ball laying out on the floor so I picked it up and called over Azzi to practice with me because playing basketball with yourself had to be the strongest guy magnet to exist.
We were just practicing layups and rebounds for what felt like a very short amount of time before my eyes latched onto the same girl. I missed that shot I was in the middle of making once I saw her walking to the tables.
I've never actually let a girl distract me from basketball but I couldn't help myself. Azzi quickly noticed and part of me felt like she was jealous.
Azzi tapped my shoulder, causing me to lose focus on the girl. It seemed like she was in slow motion as she walked past me without even looking.
Everything was back at a normal speed when Azzi gathered my attention.
"Dude, are you good?" She lifted her hands in the air.
By the time I could come up with an answer, she was gone. and I still didn't know her name.
"Yeah, I'm g-good." I was not.
My mind kept going back to that moment and replaying it over and over. I had just noticed that she had freckles. Perfectly and evenly distributed over her tanned skin. Her hair was long and it draped over her shoulders like a shawl. She wasn't short but she wasn't tall. 5'7 maybe? I kept on trying to remember her features as detailed as I could. I mean I only looked at her for a couple of seconds, there wasn't much to work with.
------------------------------------------------------------
When I got home it was harder than usual to focus on anything. My dad started explaining what I'd do for basketball this year as if I hadn't been thinking about it all summer. My brain made its choice of blocking out everything and only focusing on this mystery girl.
I was never one to ignore my parents, even if they were talking about something boring, unlike basketball. Yet here I was zoning out while my dad tried to get my attention multiple times.
I finally snapped out of whatever haze I was in and looked my dad in the eye. "What huh? Sorry."
He rolled his eyes at me and stood up to get another plate of food, along with one for me.
"I said, you'll want to try and get closer with other teammates and not just Azzi. There is a chance you'll play with them in the future."
He handed me a plate of food with a couple of utensils before sitting back down and finishing his food.
I ate my food quickly and tried to get outside before it got too dark.
Usually, I'd go outside and practice shooting a ball around but when I stepped outside I saw the one person I had been thinking about all day.
The same girl from school had just walked into what I was guessing was her home. My heart sank a little when I saw the door shut behind her. There was no way that this girl was living right across from me.
Part of me wanted to keep playing with my basketball until it got dark but another part of me (the one that took control) wanted to be bold. So I did
I walked across the street between me and the girl's house and stepped onto her porch. I hesitated knocking but slowly knocked on her blue wooden door three times.
At first, there was no answer so I turned myself around, convincing myself that it was a bad idea even though I really wanted someone to answer the door.
Just as I was about to walk down the four steps of her porch, the door opened. My head snapped around to see her standing in the doorway.
"Hey?" She said.
Her voice was just as soft as I could remember from this morning. She was so confused though.
I waved at her with my back slightly turned in her direction before switching angles and walking right back up to her porch.
"Hi! Uh, I'm sorry but I saw you walking in and I wanted to apologize for being so blunt this morning. It was rude." I tried to cover my face once I felt it growing with heat.
But when I looked up, she was still smiling. She was smiling as if I didn't totally treat her like shit in first period. She smiled as if she was glad that I was on her porch.
"Oh don't worry about that. First days of school aren't everyone's thing like they are for me so I don't blame you." She began to walk towards me while shutting the door behind her.
"I'm Lydia!"
Lydia. It fit her so well.
"I'm Paige." I shook her hand which was standing still in the air right in front of me.
"Well, It's nice to meet you, Paige. I guess I'll see you around."
"I'd hope so, we live right next to each other so if we didn't I'd get pretty worried."
"Would you now?"
Lydia then turned around and walked back into her house.
My feet felt like they weren't even attached to the ground. My hands tingled and I could still feel her touch against my palm. I must have stood there for at least 3 minutes before running back into my own house and sprinting up the stairs.
I threw myself on my bed with my arms and legs spread out.
"Shit!"
My head fell into my hands attempting to cover my now red face, even though I didn't have anyone to hide it from.
---------------------------------------------------------
Lydia's pov
The minute I got back inside, I was quite literally jumping for joy. I was squealing and running around my house as if I just got into my dream college.
I actually lived right next to the one girl I wanted to. Paige.
I ran up to my room and continued to jump up and down. I took no time to get out my record player and put on my Lover record. I had it at the max volume.
I began to sing along to the lyrics of Cornelia Street as loud as I could. After screaming the lyrics to every Lover song, I calmed myself down and flopped my body onto my bed. The covers slid around while I squirmed about my bed. I then took a pillow into my hands and screamed as loud as I could into it.
By now my face was blazing red and I couldn't feel anything on my body.
Some would say that I was overreacting but they obviously didn't know how much this meant to me.
First of all, my nice personality actually showed and Paige didn't think I was just being annoying and perky. Second of all, she didn't mean to have an off-putting reaction to my nice personality. Third of all, she actually gave enough of a fuck to apologize for having an attitude this morning. and fourth of all, she lived right. Next. To Me.
I felt my heart flutter out of my chest the more I thought about it. and just as I was getting caught in a daydream of what the future could hold for me and Paige, my brother walked in.
"Can you turn that music down? My ears are fucking bleeding."
Of course, I wasn't going to turn the music down or let my brother ruin my lovely daydreaming moment, so I picked up a different pillow of mine and chucked it at his face.
"Put on some headphones then!"
I yelled over my music. Was it maybe a little too loud? Yes. Did I care? Nope.
My brother slammed my door and left to storm down the hallway and complain to my mom. Next thing you know she was interrupting me and stood in the doorway with a hand on her hip.
I was now forced to turn down my amazing musical taste and listen to my mom's lecture.
"What is going on? Why on earth are you so smiley?"
My face was serious and stern until she asked what was up with me. Then I began to let my smile right back out and crept up to my mom. I wrapped my arms around her, still not being able to control my excitement.
"Mom the best thing happened today. Sit down sit down." I sat in my desk chair after patting on the bed for my mom to sit on. A long sigh left her mouth while she shut the door and sat down next to me.
"So basically, I was in my homeroom ready for everything when I looked out the window and this random blonde girl was rushing through campus, and then next thing I knew she was in my class. Mom she has the prettiest blue eyes and her hair looks so shiny and long and oh my god." I dipped my head into my hands to shade the absolutely humongous smile that was on my lips.
"She sat next to me and I was like 'blah blah blah school is difficult on the first day blah blah blah this class is going to be fun blah blah blah' I was being nice like how I usually am and boom she has a bland ass reaction- language I know I'm sorry. then I get home and the next thing I know she's at my door! she starts apologizing for her reaction and is being so nice and I find out that her name is Paige! Paige Paige Paige oh my God!"
I was now spinning around in my chair with my knees huddled close to my chest and when I looked up my mom had the most admiring smile on.
My mom always cared for me and my love life. She had to be the sweetest and most supporting and caring mom ever.
She then pulled her hand up to my back and began rubbing back and forth, slowly calming me down.
"That's amazing honey. So she lives near us?"
My face lit up just thinking about that fact.
"Yes! Right across the street!"
My mom laughed again at my excitement.
"I'm happy for you love." She removed her hand from my back and stood up with a grunt.
Once she left the room I was finally calmed down. I let out a huge breath and laid back down on my bed, staring at the ceiling.
I could almost feel my heartbeat in my mouth as I panted. All that jumping and screaming was getting to me.
Without even taking off my jeans or my sweater, I fell asleep on top of my covers. I was curled up in the corner of my bed now.
Of course, all I could think and dream about was Paige. My head began jumping from scenario to scenario. Ones where me and Paige were together. A first date. And all of those thoughts slowly led me to sleep.
for the first time in a while, I actually felt like this would work. Like maybe I had found a crush that won't fuck me over silently by ignoring me.

gom+uk with a gf that is too good at volleyball that one time her service was too strong and high that it hit the ceiling and almost broke the lightbulb😆
Kuroko: He's on the other side of the net when you serve, hitting the ball so hard it nearly breaks the overhead light. When it eventually rolls to a stop at his toes, Kuroko feels himself swallow thickly before returning his gaze to you.
"____... that could have been my face..."
Kiyoshi: He's by your side, one large hand shielding the top of your head while the other baps the volleyball away so it doesn't land on you. All the while, there's a soft chuckle that's shaking Kiyoshi's chest. He pulls your head into it, holding you there for a second.
"That was a strong one, huh? Maybe you should tone it back a bit."
Kise: There's a pause where the both of you are staring up toward the ceiling in amazement, watching as the light fixture sways from its encounter with the volleyball. After a beat, Kise starts laughing histerically, pointing between the light and the ball.
"____cchi, that's amazing! Reminds me of when Kagamicchi broke our basketball hoop!"
Aomine: When the volleyball hits the ceiling, Aomine has barely enough time to see it nearly miss the lights before it's ricocheting toward him. Hitting him in the stomach, he keels over with a heavy grunt and a glare that's pointed in your direction.
"You did that on purpose," he complains through gritted teeth, knowing full well you didn't.
Midorima: You would have expected him to scold you for your lack of control, but instead Midorima looks deep in thought. He knew nothing of your beloved sport, similar to how you knew little of his, but he always attempted to try help you improve.
"I think, maybe if you started your serve farther back, you'd have more accuracy."
Murasakibara: As he picks up the volleyball before it can roll away any further, Murasakibara tosses it up into the air. The simple toss nearly has it hitting the light once more. Seeing this, he gives you a grin meant to tease.
"Aww, well that wasn't so hard. I can do it too."
Akashi: "Watch your head, ____."
Akashi catches the volleyball on its way back down, seeming to be exactly where it would land at the perfect time. A part of him wonders if it would be better for you to practice on an outdoor court... or if that would mean more fetching for him.
Mibuchi: The light fixture sways above the both of you and Mibuchi's first reaction is to hold his arms out above you, covering your head from any stray pieces of glass that might fall. When nothing further happens, he sighs a bit in relief.
"You know, that was honestly impressive. ...But maybe you should work on your aim a bit more."
Nebuya: "Wow, I didn't know I was dating such a heavy hitter!"
Despite his teasing words and booming chuckle, there's an expression of pride on Nebuya's face as he looks at you. He gives you a playful jab to the shoulder before fetching the ball, mimicking your movements as he serves it to you with much less force.
Hayama: His jaw is nearly dropped to the floor before he starts running after the volleyball in excitement. Picking it up, he tries to mimic your movements, aiming for the light fixture himself. His serves misses by several meters however.
"Whoa, ____, you're so strong! You've gotta teach me!"
Hanamiya: "Oi, you tryna break that shit on purpose?!"
Since the volleyball and basketball teams share a gymnasium, he's wary of actually breaking anything since his team would likely be blamed. Though he's scolding you for your uncontrolled strength, a part of him might be a little nervous/proud of it as well.

Could you write for KNB where gn reader has tattoos that are usually covered up with their school uniform and during the summer vacation training at the beach everyone gets to see them?
Not sure which school you wanted me to write for, so i just made a scenario with Seirin + GOM/Vorpal Swords :>
Beach Training Camp!
Kuroko No Basuke with Tattooed!Reader
Kinda long, I like writing about KNB characters a lot, they're too silly.
Tumblr media
It’s not like the guys hadn’t noticed the way you’d slyly pull down your already-long sleeves in front of them during practice. It got to the point where the team thought you were ashamed of your body, which led to a little intervention where they sat you down and started listing things that they liked about your personality, much to your confusion. They got really into it too: tearing up by the end. It was only until Kuroko muttered "You don't have to feel insecure around us, ok?" that you realised what they were trying to do.
"Why are you laughing?"
"Because that's not the reason I wear long sleeves!" you laugh out, clutching your stomach. "I thought you guys were trying to kick me out nicely!"
"...So what is the reason?" Koganei asks, Mitobe nodding along.
You chuckle a little more, still amused thinking about how long they must've been thinking this way.
"...Don't snitch."
The moment you pull up your sleeve, their eyes widen in disbelief...
...and not long after, the questions come flooding in.
"Is that a lizard?"
"Idiot, it's a dragon."
"Does this mean you're in a gang?"
"I thought the age to get a tatoo in Japan was 20."
"How did you get that?"
"Is it real?"
You chuckle once more, used to this kind of reaction.
"I lived in America, and the state laws were pretty soft on tattoos as long as you have writte consent from an adult. Got my first one a year ago, and now we're here."
Some turned to Kagami for some kind of confirmation on those laws, but he just shrugged, equally as shocked as they were.
-
-
Anyway, the events of the big tattoo reveal were 4 months ago, and it's still funny to look back on, even in the backseat of Kagetora's car, as you talk with Riko.
"But really, I never thought you'd have an arm covered in ink."
You laugh again, before putting on a cheeky grin.
"If you thought that was unbelievable, you have more to look forward to." you snicker, reading her confused reaction. She scans your outfit for stray areas of revealed skin, but to no avail.
"The hell are you planning..."
As you turn up at the beach, helping to unload the basketball hoops from Kagetora's boot, you see some familiar faces waving in the distance.
"Y/N-chii! Over here!" yells Kise, soon met with Aomine's palm to the back of his head.
"Moron, we're in public, you know." utters Midorima, pushing up his glasses.
Akashi and Murasakibara sit at a bench; one studying the antics and dynamics of the other three, the other chomping on a box of ice pops.
"Hey, I wasn't expecting to see all of you guys here." you say, impaling the pole of the hoop into the sand.
"Kuroko invited us, I assume we can stay?" Akashi replies.
You nod, smiling. "Of course! We're just waiting on the him and the others now."
Riko grunts, "Seriously, how can you invite people and then be the person who's late!" she exclaims, kicking the sand in an animalistic manner, earning a few confused glances from the others.
You laugh a little, before turning away, bag in hand.
"I'm just going to change into my beachwear, I'll be back soon."
"MAKE IT QUICK!" Riko yells, as you nod.
-
-
During your outfit change, the Seirin team turns up, jumping off the bus.
Immediately, Kuroko is met by a slap to the back of the head.
"Kuroko! If you wanna invite guests, tell your coach first!"
Kuroko mutters a little apology, timidly side-stepping away from her.
-
-
Eventually, a match begins. The Generation of Miracles on one, the Seirin team on the other.
Aomine gets a steal early on, before realising he can't dribble.
"Aomine-chii! Pass to me, don't just stand there, what are you looking at?" yells Kise, before his eyes land on you, jogging over with a more comfortable outfit for the heat.
"Hey, have you guys already started playing?"
Everybody just stares.
"...Hello?"
Riko is the first to say something.
"Lord."
There you stand, both arms littered with tattoos, along with ink traced along you collarbone and across your back. And don't forget the thighs.
"...What?" You ask, confused by the sudden attention.
Kuroko's eyes are just a little wider than usual, as he says, "I thought you only had one tattoo." You shrug, "Well, I didn't say I only had one tattoo."
Akashi squints his eyes at you from a distance, scrutinising you with his gaze.
"They look nice."
Aomine makes a point to act unbothered, but inside, he's freaking out. "oh my god they're a gang member i'm literally gonna get my ass beat holy shit i'm not ready i haven't even won an oscar before oh jesus i can't die like this i'm too young"
Kise on the other hand is very loud, commenting on all sorts of things, “Did you get those done here? In America? I have a fellow model with a similar design to that!”
Murasakibara just stares like a confused child, just glad that you’re here so that he doesn’t have to move around as much.
Midorima is also a member of team act unbothered, but backs up a bit. Not that he thinks that there's anything explicably wrong with having tattoos, but more so that Oha Asa predicted that "Cancers, watch out! You may encounter something or somebody dangerous today!". In hindsight, it was a ridiculous action to take; you'd always been so kind and welcoming to him and his team in previous matches and practice games, but we wasn't going to take the chance.
Kiyoshi is the first, and only person to laugh; he also laughed when you showed the team your first tattoo, he just finds these kinds of situations amusing.
Hyuuga and Kagami take the scolding route, half-heartedly berating you as you look at them kind of confused, they don't really mean anything, they just don't know how to respond to this kind of thing.
Izuki finds a way to crack a joke about the whole affair, much to the surprise of absolutely nobody.
Mitobe and Koganei compare notes scrawled on a little pad.
"Ha! I predicted it! 7 tattoos!" Koganei exclaims, as Mitobe sighs softly and hands him a ¥1000 note.
You giggle and clap your hands together.
"Let's continue the match!"
--------
Thanks for the ask!! Can you tell who my favourite characters are from the amount written for each LOL
Also omg an opportunity to write about Riko I will take any chance i get i love her personality so much

Steve always loved an early morning jog. The cool morning air, the warmth of the sun beating into his skin. Loves the ache of it, the pleasant burn of his muscles, the way it makes him feel more himself. It’s a chance to get outside, centre himself, and get some exercise all in one fell swoop.
He loves it even more when Tommy agrees to go jogging with him. He doesn’t do it that often — agree that is — at least not this early. His boyfriend is more of a late afternoon jogger. After school, or after work, now that they’ve graduated, a way to shed the stress of the day. And to get a good workout in. He’s also just not that much of a morning person.
But he’ll agree, set an alarm, wake up early just to spend more time with Steve. To be fair they did it before — go for a jog or shoot hoops together, work out — but it feels different now.
It feels more like a date now. It feels weird to call it that, they’re just doing something they’ve always just done. But it is a date. It’s about the intent behind it, the way they feel about each other.
This is a date they can go on in public and not raise too many questions. It’s something they both enjoy, and something they can do together. And if they decide to go jogging somewhere with no prying eyes? Where no one can see the way they look at each other, they way they touch each other, the way they kiss each other. Then even better. They’ve been best friends for years, they’re just two friends out for a run. They were both on the basketball team, this is a fact, no one is going to blink at them exercising, and they’re not going to blink at them dicking off in the woods.
But they know better.
Steve finds himself smiling as he turns down Tommy’s street, sneakers pounding against the pavement. Lips curling into a smile as the houses get more and more familiar. He’s been down this road a million times. Knows Tommy’s neighbours as well as his own. It’s as good as his own neighbourhood, the amount of time he’s spent here.
He knows that Mr Howell — four doors down from Tommy — will shout at kids if they kick a ball onto his property. He and Tommy learnt that the hard way. He knows that the Reid’s across the road have a daughter a few years younger than them, who oogles Tommy when he shoots hoops in his driveway. He knows that the cottage-like house with the white panelling and bright blue door means he’s almost there. In the home stretch.
The distance between Steve’s house and Tommy’s never seemed as long as when he was going to see him. Tommy’s street stretching on for ages and ages. The distance between them closing achingly slowly.
Pushing himself, breathing heavy, Steve increases his speed. As soon as he passes that white panelled house. He’s so close to Tommy now, Steve can’t tell if his heart racing is because of the exercise, or because he’s about to see Tommy.
It’s new, this thing between them, the way their relationship has developed. The journey from friends, to best friends, to strangers, back to friends, and then finally — lovers. Boyfriends. Partners. Whatever you want to call it. Unexpected, but not unwanted. They just need to find their footing.
Maybe that’s what this is.
teve nods and smiles at Tommy’s neighbour as he passes their house — a woman named Sharon who’s on the PTA with his mom, who’s husband loves to call the cops on Tommy when his parties get too loud. She smiles back, waves in such a way that feels a little condescending, a little watching — he’s jogged past her house so many times she absolutely knows him by now. Steve rolls his eyes as soon as she’s out of sight.
And then he’s standing on the sidewalk outside Tommy’s house. Staring over at the familiar rust coloured brick, the cream painted panelling, the wooden front door with the stained glass window. It’s comforting in its familiarity. There’s a light on in the living room, shining through the sheer curtains in the window. He’s seen this house a thousand times, and he hopes he’ll see it a thousand times more. That their lives will always revolve around each other, and maybe one day they’ll revolve closer and closer until their lives completely intertwine.
They’re right in the middle, but they’re also right at the start. Of whatever their relationship is.
He only manages to take one step onto the little stone pathway that leads to the Hagan’s front door before it opens before him. Tommy steps out, and there’s a sort of bounce in his step that sort of makes it look like he’s jogging already. Like he’s excited. He stepped out of the door quick enough that it’s easy enough for Steve to assume that it’s true. He was looking out the window, waiting for him. Stepped outside as soon as he saw him. That maybe he’s just as excited for this as Steve is.
“Hey,” Steve says on an exhale, catching his breath, heart skipping a beat as his boyfriend makes his way towards him. “Ready to go?”
“You know it,” Tommy replies, lips curling up into a smirk. It’s a good look on him, the sun smothers him, warming the tips of his hair a warm honeyed brown, shining on his freckled skin. His nose, his cheeks, his exposed shoulders.
