Here are my Top Books of 2021. These are books l would recommend to everybody. My top book of ‘21 is In the Wild Light by Jeff Zentner. He rips out your heart but leaves you with hope. La bambina venuta dalla foresta – Glendy Vanderah Cari lettori, oggi voglio parlarvi della nuova uscita edita Newton Compton Editori, la bambina venuta dalla foresta. È stata una lettura davvero ricca di emozioni; i romanzo mi è arrivato dritto al cuore grazie anche ai molteplici temi di cui parla. Jo è una ragazza fragile, ha vissuto la malattia della madre che poi l’ha portata alla morte. È distrutta fisicamente e psicologicamente, ma vuole dimostrare che le tragedie della vita non hanno il diritto di decidere per lei. Sta rientrando da una giornata intensa di lavoro, quando tra gli alberi vede una bambina. “La bambina sembrava una specie di changeling. Pallida, con il cappuccio e i pantaloni che si confondevano tra gli alberi illuminati dal crepuscolo le sue spalle, era quasi invisibile. Era scalza.” Jo non ha nè il tempo nè la voglia di prendersi cura di una bambina, ma sa anche che viste le condizioni in cui si trova, è sicurante scappata da una situazione pericolosa. Non senza dubbi, decide di farla stare in casa sua, sperando che il vicino riconosca la bambina come una del posto. Anche Gabriel è una persona fragile psicologicamente parlando, ma insieme a Jo, si butta nell’impresa di scoprire da dove venga la piccola. “Per quattro giorni Jo e Gabe si scambiarono Orsa di nascosto”. Sono meravigliati dalla grande intelligenza della bambina e più tempo passano insieme e più si rendono conto che Orsa nasconde un segreto. Fa ragionamenti troppi complicati per una bambina di otto anni, e nelle sue parole e nei disegni, riconoscono che probabilmente la bambina ha visto qualcosa di davvero scioccante. La bambina venuta dalla foresta è un romanzo che parla di malattia, fisica e mentale, di abusi, ma anche di amore. Insieme alla storia vediamo crescere un forte sentimento che lega tutti e tre indissolubilmente. Ma quando il passato di Orsa la trova riusciranno lei, Jo e Gabe ad uscirne? Il punto di vista narrativo è quello di Jo; con lei viviamo tutte le emozioni possibili, dalla “rabbia” per l’intrusione improvvisa, la paura per il futuro incerto, il timore ma anche la rassegnazione per quello che è diventata dopo la morte della madre; fino all’amore che può nascere tra una donna ed una bambina. Le descrizioni sono davvero fatte molto bene, la ricerca di cui si occupa Jo è descritta nei minimi dettagli. Sono rimasta affascinata da Orsa e fino alla fine non ho immaginato il suo segreto. I was hoping to have a picture of brand new baby chicks to go with this book review of this month’s #readwithtoni book Where The Forest Meets The Stars by @glendyvanderah 🐓 Why baby chicks with this particular book, you may ask? Well I think @readwithtoni summarized this book better than I ever could in the discussion “So to sum up: teamalien vs teamhuman, eggs are sexy, and bird sex for research 😆”

This book was an amazing character driven story about being vulnerable enough to love someone even when life has made you a broken person in the past. I found myself completely sucked into this story from the very beginning when a little girl named Ursa shows up at this grad students cabin door claiming to be an alien from another planet visiting Earth to witness 5 miracles.

C'est au cœur de la forêt de l'Illinois qu'ils vont se rencontrer, entouré d'arbres et d'oiseaux, de joies et de peines, de doutes et d'amour. 

Joana Teale est doctorante et chaque été elle loue une maison en plein cœur de la forêt non loin de divers sites d'études sauvages. Elle s'impose une routine stricte afin de collecter le plus de donner possible pour ses recherches sur l'écologie et la conservation des oiseaux. Jo passe 12h par jour seule en forêt à la recherche des nids de passerins indigo jusqu'au jour où elle va faire la rencontre d'une petite fille qui va bouleverser sa vie.

Erpudna Serue, c'est par cet étrange nom que la fillette va se présenter la première fois à Jo avant de se faire appeler Ursa. Débarquant de nulle part au crépuscule dans des vêtements sale et abîmer, la fillette lui raconte qu'elle vient des étoiles et plus précisément de "Herteh" dans la constellation de la Grande Ourse. Ursa n'en dément pas malgré les questions incitantes de Jo et menace de s'enfuir si elle prévient la police.

C'est alors que Joana va avoir l'idée de demander de l'aide à Gabriel Nash, un homme peu loquace et assez renfermé, vivant non loin de la maison qu'elle loue. Tous deux vont tenter d'aider la fillette et de découvrir la vérité tout en apprenant à se connaître l'un l'autre, à panser les blessures du passé et en s'attachant plus qu'ils ne l'aurait cru à Ursa.

✨️Un coup de cœur✨️

Ce roman est tout simplement magnifique, j'ai tout aimé. Les personnages sont attachants, Ursa en particulier. La fillette a une personnalité qui ne laisse pas indifférent et on a presque envie de plonger dans le roman pour la rencontrer. J'ai trouvé intéressant la façon dont ont été traiter les maladies qu'elles soient physiquement visibles ou pas et l'après qui mène à la guérison, un combat permanent. Les liens qui se tissent entre tous ces personnages sont magnifiques. Oui, c'est un voyage merveilleux et onirique, un hymne à la nature et aux relations humaines que je vous invite à découvrir.

2. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy📱- Beautiful prose used to tell a story that was very dark at times. Brutal, but also lovely. ⁣⁣⁣

3. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman by Nora Ephron 🎧 - I miss Nora. ⁣⁣

4. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple 📚 - Clever, unique, hilarious. This was for book club and every member loved it. ⁣⁣

5. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Paperback Crush: The Totally Radical History of '80s and '90s Teen Fiction by Gabrielle Moss 📚 - This hit me in the feels, my friends. I grew up on these books. ⁣⁣

6. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Where the Forest Meets the Stars by @glendyvanderah 🎧 - Pure magic with characters I fell in love with so hard, I never wanted it to end. ⁣⁣⁣

7. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ House of Dreams: The Life of L.M. Montgomery by Liz Rosenberg📱- Very insightful bio about one of my all time favorite authors with delightful illustrations. ⁣⁣

Where the Forest Meets the Stars by Glendy Vanderah was an Amazon First Reads book. Vanderah puts her characters - her broken, damaged, flawed characters - into an almost impossible situation with a young girl. The young girl, Ursa, claims to be an alien and has unexplained bruises. Jo and Gabe try to figure out what’s best. And then a restaurant visit takes a terrifying turn. I really enjoyed these characters. Jo for fighting to build a life after an early cancer diagnosis - Gabe for confronting the pain of his mother’s betrayal - and Ursa, for her survival. A great read from Vanderah. There’s been a little buzz about this book - it’s well deserved.
