Why goddess Saraswati is never shown standing.
This signifies Stability
Goddess Saraswati always shown as seated because once you gain knowledge, it's forever yours, no body would able to steal or use your knowledge except ourselves
So always respect the knowledge you have ,good knowledge is gonna be forever with you , people will go and come but knowledge and wisdom will never leave you ,use it smartly [ KNOWLEDGE IS POWER]

A Moment with the Mothers :
Shwetpadmasana
My mind is in turmoil. Thoughts are racing around and crashing with each other. Thorns of shattered dreams are tearing through my skin. The maddening hopelessness of wasted time is screaming around my mind. The frustration of the focus that has been lost for years now choke me. Tears roll down my eyes. I crash on the ground. 'Ma help please,' I plead to the walls of my room as they stand witness to my pain.
There is a soft cooling wind. And a shroud of peace falls on me. The dark room seems to be aglow with a very pure light. But the light strangely does not blind me. It gently guides me to its source.
I am led to a strange place. I am surrounded with dark murky waters but somehow it does not touch me. There in the middle is a huge white lotus...the purest white I have ever seen. It floats on the murky waters without touching it. Lotus leaves form steps to its centre. There is a woman sitting there playing a Veena. She is awash with a strange welcoming light. Her Veena is emitting a sound which simultaneously sounds like every piece of music I love.
She opens her eyes and looks at me. She has such a gentle and loving smile on her face. Her face is like the moon of Purnima when it casts away night's darkness. Her dark hair ripples down her back. Her eyes are most beautifully lined with kohl. She is wearing a white saree made of the softest cotton bordered with exquisitely woven golden threads. She is wearing garlands of jasmines and pearls around her neck and wrists. They are spreading a heavenly fragrance all around. I am scared of even breathing loudly in front of this celestial being. Who is she?
Then I look into her eyes. They look at me with the love of a mother calling her child home. I rush to her without thinking anymore. Tears streaming down my cheeks I hug her. She holds me close to her bosom. Her gentle hands caress my head. My tears reflect in her eyes.
I have not spoken a single word but she seems to understand everything I have to say. In fact, even more. She understands every unspoken word hidden in the deepest crevasses of my mind. She holds my face and in the gentlest voice tells me to have faith in her. To not be afraid of the light of knowledge and truth. No time is lost. Everything is in accordance to what she had planned for me. A plan specific to me. Everything has been designed by her. I have to be unafraid of working hard to keep the flame of knowledge alive. The knowledge is not restrained in books. It is everywhere. She will always look out for me. Hold my hand through perilous roads. She will be there.
A resplendent swan glides though the air and lands nimbly on the dark waters. It reaches into the water and seems to have picked out some strange light from the darkness. I am bewildered. The Mother laughs...the sweet sound ringing through the darkness. She tells me to be like the swan. The darkest of waters have light hidden in them. I must learn how to find that light. Every bit of light I find will add to the flame inside me.
She gently kisses my head and everything around me dissolves into darkness. I wake up with a jerk. I am on the ground. It was a dream. But then why is the smell of jasmines still lingering around me? I stand up dazed to switch on the light of the room. A bright, fresh jasmine falls off my lap. I pick it up and hold it close to my heart.

Idk if this is just something I feel or something for real, but here it is: Sometimes I feel like people forget that Goddess Laxmi is Narayani. I don’t like it when she is simply correlated to wealth and monetary when she is all the resources (including the earth), the senses, Prakriti herself and just as much as all divine as Narayan, hence the name Narayani. She’s everything there is, the part of Hari that incarnated with him, the all knowing, yet people never talk about it enough.
And honestly, I feel like I can say the same for Maa Bramhani, strictly coming to us when we accidentally touch a book by our feet and not as source of all knowledge and the power of creation, the true mother to us since it is her vastness that shapes our souls.
I feel so happy knowing that Maa Uma Bhavani is still so well loved with her true divinity more recognised, her form as Adi Shakti more known yet I feel like we should realise the other two aswell.

Somedays make you go down the rabbit hole of nostalgia!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some old memories of Saraswati Puja.
I woke up and disjointly watched Subhy (my nephew) go to school. What perturbed me, was not that he was going to school, but he was going to school in uniform and with bag. When I asked Nani (elder sister in Odia) why he is going to school with books on Saraswati Puja, she informed me he didn't have a holiday today.
I had never felt the ache of leaving home much more than that moment. It was the realisation that things are going to different from now on and I couldn't fall back into the safety net of familiarity from now on.
If I had been at home, I would have helped Puchu in getting ready for her school in new dress. Then we would have offered pushpanjali to the brass idol of Goddess Saraswati in our puja room. We would have placed her books and new pencils and my new pens in front of Maa for blessing. She would have gone to school for puja and I would have met my friends.
This has always been my ritual for Saraswati and Ganesh Puja. Before Puchu's birth, I used to do this alone. I love buying new pens and keeping them near the Deities and using them for the whole year. I have started this ritual when I was in school myself. Another perk of my ritual was that I didn't have to study until the books are kept in front of Maa.
Now Puchu follows my habits. But this year, I couldn't complete my ritual. I just lit a diya in front of Maa.
With the memory of the discontinued ritual, also came the memory of those school days when I used to go to the school and tuition and celebrate Saraswati Puja. That anxious waiting for the priest's arrival as they were always late. They used to do puja at many places after all. Then the yearning for the Homa Yajna to complete soon so that we could offer pushpanjali and break coconuts. It was a competition to see who could break a coconut in a single blow. First we would get delicious boodi Sev prasad and there would be a feast later. The teachers would keep reminding us not to waste any food. The icing on the cake was the superstition that if you study on Saraswati Puja, you would turn into a fool, that we used to take full advantage of.
Then, in college, daunting as well as liberating realisation that we had to organise the Puja on our own without any help or intervention from faculty. The whole process of preparing a budget, collecting contributions from all the students, purchasing puja samagri and decoration materials, planning the feast, decorating the hall with friends and then finally making sure everything goes well on the day of the Puja.
Sometimes, I wish to go back to those simpler times, when everything was fun and joyful. But of course, I can't as I don't have time travel machine. So I distracted myself with the photos sent by my cousins of Puja at their college. I am glad, they are enjoying this phase of their life and making beautiful memories.

Unveiling the Symbolism and Imagery in Saraswati Chalisa
Tumblr media
Saraswati Chalisa, a revered prayer dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, is not only a devotional hymn but also a rich tapestry of symbolism and imagery. Each verse of the chalisa carries profound meaning, representing various aspects of the goddess and her association with knowledge, wisdom, and creativity. In this article, we will explore the hidden symbolism and imagery within the Saraswati Chalisa while considering diverse perspectives that enrich its interpretation.
The Veena: In the Saraswati Chalisa, the goddess is often depicted holding a veena, a stringed musical instrument. The veena symbolizes melody, harmony, and creative expression. It represents the divine vibrations of knowledge and the arts. As devotees recite the chalisa, they acknowledge and seek the inspiration to nurture their own creative potential.
White Garments: Saraswati is traditionally depicted wearing white garments, symbolizing purity, clarity, and enlightenment. White represents the pristine nature of knowledge and the goddess's role in illuminating the path of learning and wisdom.
Mounting on a Swan: The swan, on which Saraswati is often depicted seated or standing, is a symbol of discernment and spiritual purity. The swan has the ability to separate milk from a mixture, representing the goddess's power to distinguish truth from falsehood and to guide seekers towards true knowledge.
The Flowing River: In several verses, Saraswati is described as a river flowing gracefully. This imagery portrays her ever-flowing nature of knowledge, constantly enriching and nourishing those who seek her blessings. The flowing river also symbolizes the continuous evolution of wisdom and the importance of adaptability and lifelong learning.
Goddess of Speech: Saraswati is reverently referred to as the goddess of speech, symbolizing her association not only with literacy and written knowledge but also with the power of communication. As devotees recite the chalisa, they invoke the goddess's blessings to eloquently express themselves, whether through written or spoken words.
These symbols and imagery within the Saraswati Chalisa hold diverse interpretations and resonate with individuals from various cultural and spiritual backgrounds. For some, the symbolism may serve as a reminder of the profound connection between knowledge and creativity. Others may see it as a representation of the goddess's divine grace and wisdom guiding them throughout their educational and creative journeys.
It's important to note that individual interpretations of the Saraswati Chalisa's symbolism can vary, and that is the beauty of its universality. The chalisa embraces a fluidity that allows each person to connect with the imagery based on their unique perspectives and experiences.
As we unravel the symbolism and imagery within Saraswati Chalisa, we deepen our understanding of the divine qualities it represents. By contemplating these symbols, devotees can cultivate a deeper connection with the goddess and seek her blessings for the pursuit of knowledge, wisdom, and creativity in their lives.

Ma, Bless us with creative energy so we can learn from Gandharved and create devotional melody to harmonize our atman. Purify my heart so that I can see my true nature. Remove my obstacles so that I can walk towards my spiritual journey. Slow down my speed of thoughts so I could gain my chitta conscious to vibrate in highest form.
