i hc that roach and ghost lived through the events of MW2. (i love them too much for them to die) i also hc that roach remembers, constantly, at that.

Roach remembers the relief flooding through his veins, easing him as a drug would an addict, as he and Ghost approached the LZ, the small smile that found its way onto his lips despite the pain coursing through his body as he and Ghost approached Shepherd. He remembered the confusion as the man's words wrung through the air, remembered the searing pain in his abdomen as Shepherd’s bullet burrowed itself inside his body. Remembered the utter shock when he saw Ghost’s body collapse to the dirt shortly after the man yelled for him, remembered how fucking desperate he felt, reaching to grab Shepherd, to stop him, to do something, anything.

He remembered the harsh sting as gasoline was poured onto him, drenching his gear and seeping into his wounds like syrup. How distraught he was as he stared at Ghost lying next to him. How Ghost reached out his gloved hand to Roach, and how Roach followed suit, their gloved, burning hands, tangling together. Even as the fire licked at his body, scratching at his nerves as sandpaper would plaster, Ghost made it all okay. With a “friendship” forged by bloodied hands and the smell of gunpowder amidst the horrific time of war, tempered by the dulled fear of death, Ghost, Simon, had found a way to make it all okay.

Roach remembered thinking that, even if they were both to die right then and there, he would die holding on to Simon, the two cradling each other's hands in a burning embrace.

The two crawled out of that burning ditch, both bleeding out as they exhausted the flames dotting their burned gear with mud and grass dew. Held on to each other, shaking, hyperventilating, all ugly emotions kept hidden under their face covers exposed in the night’s air. Going cold, so fucking cold, in each other’s embrace, blanketed by the dark smoke leaking into the loving night sky.
