the celtic gods
please note that sometimes history gets blended with stories created by neopagan groups, and it's above my pay grade to know what is what
the creation myth of the irish is pretty much lost to time, but as far neopagan groups are concerned, it began with a horse named Eioch emerging from sea foam. nearby a hearty tree grew which Eioch fed upon, and this tree may have been Cerunnos (not many sources exist to corroborate this). jealous of the giants (who created the earth) that were many in number, Cerunnos and Eioch procreated to create the gods
CERUNNOS: irish god of nature, life, and fertility. associated with horned animals
the clan of Tuatha De Danann
DANU/ANU/ANANN: the matriarch of Tuatha de Danann (literally meaning "the people of the goddess Danu"), she is the irish goddess of regeneration, wisdom (since the Tuatha de Danann themselves were crafty), and sovereignty
THE DAGDA: son of Elatha (a Fomorian king) and possibly Ethniu, a triple god and one chief of Tuatha de Danann, god of life and death, the seasons, magic, and agriculture
BRIGID: daughter of Dagd, irish goddess of healing, fire/metalworking, and poetry
AENGUS/OENGUS: son of Dagd, irish god of love, beauty, summer, youth, and inspiration
MIDIR: son of the Dagd, although his name may mean "judge," some stories say he crafted the rivers and lakes
ERNMAS: her name refers to death by weapons
THE MORRIGAN: daughter of Ernmas, a triple goddess and the other chief of Tuatha de Danann, irish goddess of war, death, prophecy and ravens. her aspects are often considered Badb, Macha, and Nemain/Anand/Eea
ERIU: sometimes considered a daughter of Ernmas, goddess of Ireland (Ireland is derived from her name) and sovereignty
BRES: son of Eriu and Elatha (of the Fomorians), he was an unpopular king of Tuatha de Danann since he often gave preferential treatment to the Fomorians
BANBA: sometimes considered a daughter of Ernmas, goddess of Ireland
FODLA: sometimes considered a daughter of Ernmas, goddess of Ireland
LUGH/LUGUS: son of Ethniu (of the Fomorians) and Cian (of Tuatha de Danann), irish god of nobility, warriors, crafts, oaths, justice and sometimes light or the sun. he kills Balor at the battle of Mag Tuired
NUADA: the first king of Tuatha de Danann, irish god of fairness, justice, and honesty
OGMA: son of Elatha (of the Fomorians), irish god of language, eloquence, and learning
DIAN CECHT: irish god of healing and medicine, Tuatha de Danann's healer. father of Cian and grandfather of Lugh
GOIBNIU: irish god of craft, metalsmith for the Tuatha de Danann
the clan of the Fomorians, who fought to take over Ireland,
DOMNU: irish goddess of the abyss, or deep sea. patron goddess of the Fomorians
INDECH: irish son of Domnu, sometimes king of the Fomorians, other times just a warrior
BALOR: a giant cyclops that is usually considered the chief of the Fomorians. it is his death, at the hands of his grandson Lugh, that creates a time of peace and prosperity in Ireland
CAITLIN/CETHLENN: wife of Balor, a prophet
ELATHA/EALADHA: a king of the Fomorians, son of Balor and Caitlin, perhaps a god of the sun
ETHNIU: daughter of Balor and by some sources, irish goddess of the North Star
gods associated with the underworld,
ARAWN: welsh god of hunting, magic, and lord of the Annwn (afterlife). represents honor and fairness
CERRIDWEN: welsh goddess of the underworld, a shapeshifting witch and prophet
MANANNAN/MANAWYDAN: welsh god of the sea and guardian of the underworld
and the rest,
MATH AP MATHONWY: brother of Don, god of magic, sorcery and enchantment. created Blodeuwedd for a man, and turned her into an owl when she became unfaithful
BELI: welsh god of fire, death, and darkness
DON: welsh equivalent of Danu, the mother goddess. there is another welsh god by this name who is considered the god of the dead
GOVANNON: son of Beli and Don, welsh god of blacksmithing and crafts
GILVAETHWY: son of Beli and Don, god of agriculture and ploughing
GWYDYON: son of Beli and Don, welsh god of war, magic, illusion, poetry, and music
AMATHON: son of Beli and Don, welsh god of agriculture
NUDD/LLUDD: son of Beli and Don, welsh god of healing
GWYNN AP NUDD: son of Nudd, king of the fair folk, associated with the Annwn
CREIDDYLAD/CORDELIA: daughter of Lludd, welsh goddess of flowers and desire
ARIANRHOD: virgin goddess of the moon, reincarnation, the sky, and fertility. tricked into jumping over the magic wand of Math, which made her give birth to Dylan and Lleu. she refused to claim Lleu as her son and laid three curses upon him
DYLAN: welsh god of the sea and waves
LLEU: welsh hero, often attributed the same powers as Gwydion
AERON: welsh god of battle, slaughter, and fate
LLYR: welsh equivalent of Lir, god of the sea
MANAWYDDAN: son of Llyr, welsh god of the sea
BRAN: son of Llyr, welsh god of prophecy, war, and kingship
BRANWEN: daughter of Llyr, welsh goddess of love, beauty, and marriage
MODRON/MATRONA: mother of Mabon, welsh goddess of motherhood
MABON: welsh god of eternal youth, hunting, love, and the autumnal equinox
TALIESIN: welsh god of bards and poetry/music
MERLIN/MYRRDIN: welsh god of magic, gifted with prophecy and wisdom

Emrys’ noble phantasm is the sacred blade Caledfwlch, the very sword he awoke and used during his life.
"Caledfwlch: O sacred blade, take all that I am for the sake of those who shall follow”.
The sword was forged from a star that fell from the heavens in the ancient past, shortly after the Holy Sword of the Planet, Excalibur, was created by the faeries of Albion. Caledfwlch was created specifically to be a sacred weapon for the people of Britain by the god Govannon so that should dire need arise, it would be ready even if Excalibur was not.
Because both as a physical weapon and then as a Noble Phantasm Caledfwlch carried a special magic: an enchantment to make it the perfect weapon against Calamities.
The sword was sealed within the trunk of an ancient tree, deep in the forests of Wales, to sleep until it was needed. Until its chosen wielder would be ready. And until it was time for the people of Britain to seal a portion of the sorcery of the land away, through the heart of the blade into the land of Avalon. There it would sleep for thousands of years, appearing as merely a rusted old longsword driven into an old, gnarled rowan tree.
Until the day came that Emrys, then still going by Ambrosius, was brought to the sword’s resting place.
Guided by Merlin and his hitherto unknown older brother, the young King Vortigern, Ambrosius didn’t yet understand the importance of what he was seeing. But still he was drawn to the sword and took hold of it, before drawing it from the ancient tree with surprising ease.
And, years later, Caledfwlch would shatter with that same ease upon the moment of Emrys’ death. For the sword and the man were both made from that fallen star.
The physical body forged into a blade both beautiful and deadly, and the heart? Given to the lord of the Otherworld to be crafted into a human soul in order to create the ideal wielder for the sword.
…That being said, Emrys himself has no magical aptitude beyond using his sacred weapon. And possibly as the origin for his immunity to poisons.

So I decided to try and make some approximations of my OCs messing around on the avatar creator on DC Universe Online - I used to play this as a child, and the two pink monstrosity men were active characters of mine at the time (fun fact, Mr Cuddlepuff Jr was my strongest character) but I forgot my login details and lost interest anyway so eh. If I ever find the motivation I’ll add in more dumbasses as accurately as I can, and maybe one day actually play it again properly, if I can find a design I like and a name that I can use.

Human Names I Use
Just a quick write up of the full names I give the characters I write the most often and why. This post got a little long so sorry about that.
Arthur James Percival Kirkland (England)
Arthur is traditionally a Welsh name meaning bear; name of the central character in Arthurian legend, a 6th-century king of the Britons who resisted Saxon invaders
In the 17th century, the Scottish king James VI inherited the English throne, becoming the first ruler of all Britain
Means supplanter (one who wrongfully or illegally seizes and holds the place of another)
Percival means ‘Pierces the valley.’ One of the knights of the Round Table who searched for the Holy Grail in Arthurian Legend. He is the original hero for the grail quest before Galahad replaced him in later literature
Kirkland is an English and Scottish topographic name for someone who lived on land belonging to the Church
Alistair Merriweather Coineagan (Scotland)
Alistair is the name the fandom’s been using for a long time; alternative spelling: Alasdair
Scottish version of the name Alexander meaning defending men or warrior
Merriweather is an English nickname for someone of a sunny disposition
I just think it sounds really good with the flow of his name and it’s a little ironic given the reputation of both Scottish weather and Alistair’s grumpy disposition
Coineagan is the Scottish Gaelic version of the name Cunninghame
The origin of the name is unclear; one possible derivation is from coineanach which means 'rabbit' in Gaelic and the Saxon ham which means 'village'
The rabbits conveyed in the coat of arms are a pun for "koenig", meaning "king." Irvine was former capital of Scotland, and in turn, capital of the district of Cunninghame, indicating its status as a royal burgh. The family crest includes the unicorn, which is restricted to the Crown, and Clans Cunningham, Oliphant, and Ramsay.
Dylan Taliesin Llewellyn (Wales)
Dylan (dul-an is the Welsh pronunciation) is a name I’ve seen associated with Wales for a long time as well
A Welsh name meaning son of the sea; Dylan ail Don was the legendary god of the sea who was accidentally killed by his uncle Govannon (the clamor of the waves dashing upon the beach is the expression of their longing to avenge their son)
Taliesin was Celtic mythology’s “Chief of Bards,” a poet of great renown who served in the court of King Arthur. A real historical figure heavily influenced by myth, his prophetic skills were in high demand.
Taliesin is a name of Welsh origin meaning “radiant brow.” Such a name reinforced the bard’s legendary beauty and mental acuity.
“God” of magic, music, writing, wisdom, and the Bards; Prince of Song
Llewellyn is a Welsh name meaning "leader's image”
Two princes who played a great role in the medieval Welsh quest for independence were Llewelyn Fawr (Llewelyn the Great) and Llywelyn yr Olaf (Llywelyn the Last)
Morgan “Eire” Brigid O’Neill (Ireland)
I wanted to pick a more gender neutral given name for Ireland, as, I wasn’t sure how I wanted them depicted for a long time
Morgan is a Welsh name meaning dweller of the sea; the Irish form is Murchadh (they’ve spelled it this way in the past and go back and forth on which way they spell it)
The female version of the first name likely finds its origins with the Morrígan, the Irish goddess associated with war and fate, especially with foretelling doom, death, or victory in battle.
Considered the goddess of Ireland, Eire serves as the modern personification of Ireland. In fact, the name means “from the island to the west” and is the Gaelic name for Ireland
Brigid is one of Ireland's Patron Saints, celebrated for her generosity to the poor, and shares the name with the goddess of poetic arts, crafts, prophecy, and divination; means strength or exalted one
The descendants of the Milesians (one of Ireland’s mythic group founders) include 'Niall of the Nine Hostages’ where the O’Neill’s are descended from; in the mid-1500s, Shane O’Neill, the Earl of Tyrone, was causing so many problems for the English crown that Elizabeth I banned the name O’Neill, on the punishment of death and forfeiture of property so you bet Morgan kept their name to piss Arthur off
Shane Christopher Donnelly (Northern Ireland)
Shane is the Irish version of John and means God's gracious gift though can also mean a charm, ancient, or wise
Shane is a popular variant of the name Seán in Northern Ireland in memory of Shane O’Neill (an Irish chieftain of the O'Neill dynasty of Ulster in the mid-16th century) whose forces won notable victories over the armies of Queen Elizabeth I
Christopher means ‘bearer of Christ’ and really I just liked how it sounded here
Donnelly is an Irish name meaning a brown-haired man and is believed to be directly descended from King Niall of the Nine Hostages
It is most commonly found in County Tyrone in mid and west Ulster
Francis Denis Paul-Michel Bonnefoy (France)
The more saints, the more hashtag blessed
Francis, as I’m sure most of you know, means ‘Frenchman’ or ‘freeman’; the personal name owed much of its popularity during the Middle Ages to the fame of St. Francis of Assisi
St. Denis of Paris was allegedly the first bishop of Paris, a martyr and a patron saint of France; he was beheaded in the year 250 and according to legend, angels accompanied him as he carried his own head from the place of execution to his chosen burial site, where later, the church of Saint Denis was built just outside of Paris (really just the right amount of dramatic for Francis)
St. Paul the Apostle was one of the leaders of the first generation of Christians, often considered to be the most important person after Jesus in the history of Christianity; the name itself means humble
Michel is the French variant of the name Michael (meaning ‘who is like God?’); the Archangel Michael is repeatedly depicted as the “great captain,” the leader of the heavenly hosts, and the warrior helping the children of Israel
In Normandy, Saint Michael is the patron of mariners in his famous sanctuary at Mont-Saint-Michel in the Diocese of Coutances. He is said to have appeared there, in 708, to St. Aubert, Bishop of Avranches
This is the story Francis tells Feliciano in the show; according to the legend, Aubert received a message while he was asleep for three nights an order from Saint Michael to erect an oratory on the Mont Tombe. The archangel was reputed to have left his finger mark on Aubert's skull. This skull is displayed at the Saint-Gervais d'Avranches basilica with such a scar on it
The surname Bonnefoy is a traditional French surname and means good faith
Alfred Frederick* Kirkland Jones (America)
Alfred is a boy's name of English origin meaning "wise counselor"
Alfred the Great, King of Wessex (called "England's darling") was a wise, compassionate and scholarly king of old England in the tenth century
*I go into detail of the history of his middle name in this post
To summarize, he’s changed it a lot over the years; it’s gone from Fight-the-good-fight-of-faith, to Freedom, to the most current version of Frederick which means peaceful ruler and is of Germanic origin; honestly I might change
Jones means ‘God is gracious’ and is a popular surname among European Christians, as the name John was bestowed in honor of St. John the Baptist and many other saints by the name John
Matthew “Matthieu” Marc Jean-Luc Bonnefoy Williams (Canada)
Taken completely from @draw-a-circle-thats-the-foxhole
I really enjoy his name is just all the authors of the Gospel (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John bless thy bed I sleep on)
Matthew means gift of God; the popularity of the name is due to Matthew the Apostle who, in Christian tradition, is one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and the author of the Gospel of Matthew; that’ll be the running theme of most of his name so I won’t repeat it for the rest
Marc is a French name derived from the Latin word Mars. It means "consecrated to the god Mars" and also may mean "God of war" or "to be warlike"
Jean is the French form of John and means God is gracious; St. Jean de Brébeuf was a missionary in New France and is one of the four patron saints of Canada; could also be named after St. Jean Baptist the patron saint of Quebec
In French the meaning of the name Luc is light or illumination; form of Luke
Williams means "resolute protector" or "strong-willed warrior”
Before he became the king of England, William I was one of the mightiest nobles in France as the duke of Normandy, but he is best remembered for leading the Norman Conquest of England in 1066, and was the first Norman monarch of England
Born John “Jack” Irving Sylvester Kirkland. Later, Jack Kuparr Kelly (Australia)
Okay, okay we’ve had John pop up a few times on this list already, God is gracious we’ve heard
Originally a nickname for the given name John, Jack has now become a given name on its own. There's a theory that the name Jack itself is of Celtic origin, meaning "healthy, strong, and full of vital energy"
Irving is originally a Scottish surname, a variant of the name Irvine, and means sea friend or fresh water
Sylvester means a man from the forest or wild
Kuparr is an Aboriginal name meaning red earth; the Cobar area is part of the traditional territory of the Wongaibon people and the ochre is used for ceremonial body paint
I was trying to avoid making Kelly his surname but goddamn it just flows so well and has some significance that I can’t ignore
Kelly is an Irish surname of Gaelic origin. It’s most commonly accepted meaning is "descendant of war," and comes from the ancient Irish name "O'Ceallaigh"
Irish Australians have played a considerable part in the history of Australia. Some of those who were transported to Australia, were prisoners of war, mainly those who fought in the 1798 Irish rebellion for independence, others were settlers who could not find a life during the Irish famine and the harsh years in Ireland afterwards; Ned Kelly was most famous of the bushrangers, Australian rural outlaws of the 19th century and some view Ned Kelly as a personification of the plight of workers set against large landowners in an economically depressed period
Born Charlotte “Charlie” Evelyn Winifred Kirkland. Later, Charlie "Zee” Te Aata Mangakāhia (New Zealand/ Aotearoa)
Charlotte is the feminine form of the name Charles, meaning "free man;" the name was made popular by England's Queen Charlotte in the 18th century
Evelyn is an English name meaning wished for child, water, island, or beautiful bird (really fits our favorite Kiwi)
Winifred is the Anglicization of an Ancient Welsh name, Gwenfrewi, meaning blessed and peaceful; according to popular legend, Gwenfrewi was a Welsh Christian noblewoman who chose to take the veil; a decision which so infuriated a suitor of hers that he lopped off her head with a sword. It's believed that healing spring waters instantly appeared where her severed head came to rest. Later, her uncle reattached her head to her body, which apparently, restored her life
Zee is another nickname I see used a lot and it’s a cute name, just short for New Zealand, simple but I love it
If I read correctly on Maori naming conventions, “Te” means ‘the’ and can be used as an article along with others but “Te” was one I saw come up in names fairly often; Aata is the Maori version of the name Arthur, just to show Charlie still has ties to their father despite dropping the family name, the custom of a person taking their father's name as a surname came around arrival of Europeans (unsure how final I want to keep this)
Their surname is the same as Meri Te Tai Mangakāhia, a campaigner for women's suffrage in New Zealand, who inspired future generations of Māori women

Doctor Donius has been hard at work raising our kingdom’s pathetic well-being meter, but his licentious fatal flaw keeps tanking our focus unless he’s getting some, which leaves us no choice..
Tumblr media
..but to seduce his elderly nurse, Govannon, since he’s always around to quench Donius’ burning loins.
-Oh Donius, never in a million years did I think you’d be interested in me! -Yea, you and me both, buddy.
Tumblr media
Now that his spirits and some other body parts have been lifted, Donius is focused enough to cure Queen Consort Kayley the Bandit of the approximately 40 illnesses that were plaguing her! Way to go, Don!
Tumblr media
-So, your Majesty, as you’ve undoubtedly heard, I’ve succeeded in treating your beloved wife! -I haven’t heard, actually, since she’s been gone for a week on a banditing tour of the kingdom, but for once I’m very pleased with your work, Donius. I’d offer you a reward if you weren’t already ridiculously overpaid. -You pay me 2 gold coins a month.  -Yes, which is one coin more than this kingdom’s well being level.
Tumblr media
Who comes around plagued with the plague, but Troubadour Bellinda!
-Look Donius, our love’s glow is all around me! -Yea that’s great, Govannon, kinda busy at the moment.
Tumblr media
-Bellinda, you’re cured! Let’s celebrate the fact you can’t infect me with the plague!  -But Donius, don’t you have to treat that poor plagued man too? -Oh just ignore him, he’s not gonna make it.
Tumblr media
Omg poor Govannon :( -Donius you scoundrel, how could you?!! -Oh Gov there you are, do you still have that rose I gave you? -YES, I keep it with me always in my little medical fanny pack!! -Ah good good, can you pass it over?
Tumblr media
-For you, my lady! -Oh Donius, how did you know red is my favorite color? -Wild stab in the dark! Just like the reason my next patient is here.  -Shouldn’t you go treat him? -Nah, it’s fine, he’s not gonna make it either.
Tumblr media
-Govy I’m so sorry, please forgive me!  -Why would I ever forgive you after the way you treated me, Donius? You even took my rose back!!! -I did, but look..
Tumblr media
-..I got it back from Bellinda as I was sneaking out of her chamber!  -Oh Donius, I misjudged you, you’re clearly a stand-up guy after all!
Tumblr media
Ffs Gov.
Tumblr media
-Well now I’m just upset!!! It’s like these people aren’t even trying to stay alive!!!
