Damn, I really do love how realistic the family dynamics in blue lock are and it’s been such an unexpected surprise. Like there’s so much range
a rich kid who was spoiled by his parents but also was expected to do the most and so now has crazy perfectionist tendencies
a kid that was taken care of materially but was absolutely neglected by his parents, and now as a teen has to learn how to socialize and be close to others in a way that he probably craves but doesn’t know how
a kid with totally normal parents that support his hobbies and want the best for him without expecting the moon, probably in a very average way (get a good job, marry a nice person, etc.)
a kid of divorced parents that used their child as a way to project and navigate their relationship failures, leaving him feeling isolated and with the burden to bring peace to his family through his success
a kid with curious and destructive tendencies, who’s parents tried their best to raise him but fell in the trap of trying to adjust him to their sense of normalcy rather than to understand his instincts. also had an older brother he placed on a pedestal that tried to protect him from the burdens that were placed on them, which inevitably backfired as they were just a child too.
a kid with a single mom who raised him with so much care and acceptance, encouraging him to embrace his feelings
a kid who was raised kinda by a single dad, but grew up in a very abusive home that told he was worthless and instilled so much self hatred
But now they all just… play soccer together.
…and try to navigate that time when you’re a teen and you realize how fucked up your childhood was, while also forming your own identity outside of the world your parents built for you (kinda like what all my friends and I did when we ended up in the same college together lol)
#i know there are other characters but these are just the ones off the top of my head#and also very abrupt summaries so take them with a grain of salt lol#but like that really is how life works#everyone has weird and fucked up family dynamics#and we start to express them in strange ways as we process and cope together lol#anyways yeah i just think that’s cool#blue lock#bllk#bluelock

this is my call for all writers out there:
CARE ABOUT YOUR ANTAGONISTS.
when i say this, i don’t mean that you need to make your antagonist just a misguided soul trying to do the right thing. i don’t even mean you need to make your antagonist complex or likeable. there is a place for every type of antagonist character — from complex ones with their heart in the right place to evil and irredeemable scumbags who soley exist to oppose your protagonist. but i beseech you, CARE ABOUT THEM.
it might seem like a strange sentiment to have, and it’s one in the past that i myself thought was foolish. if a character is meant to be bad, meant to be hated, then why should i care?
the answer is because if you don’t care, your audience won’t either. if there’s no substance behind what you’re writing, then why will your readers care about it? i know this is common writing advice, but it’s really true. i can’t tell you the amount of times i’ve read something with a lackluster antagonist and just not cared. it’s not a fun reading experience.
but if you care about your antagonist, then the reader is more likely to be engaged. make the reason the audience is meant to root against your antagonist clear. if you’ve got a complex antagonist, really dig in to why they’ve chosen to do what they do. as a bonus, caring about your antagonist makes it more engaging to write about them — trust me.
as an anecdotal example, let me tell you about two of my antagonistic characters. when i started my writing project, i dreaded having to visit my antagonists and develop their aspects of my story. both characters were entirely one-dimensional, and their only purpose in the story were to be an active threat to my protagonist and an unpleasant reminder of his past. but i found that writing these characters was an unpleasant experience — not just in the sense that they were unpleasant characters, but that they weren’t engaging to write. so, i pivoted. i began developing the first antagonist, making her a more nuanced character and giving her a backstory and motivation as to why she would behave that way. it made writing scenes with her and thinking about her in relation to the protagonist a much more engaging experience.
for the other antagonist, it wasn’t so simple. his antagonism was much less complicated than the first character — he’s just not a good person, raised by people who didn’t see the value in being kind or respectful. i didn’t feel the need to flesh out his backstory in the same way that i did for my other antagonist. so, instead of that, i focused my energy on making him a character i would enjoy writing — not a person i would ever enjoy talking to in real life, but a character that is entertainingly insufferable to write. by allowing myself to be engaged with the character, i could appreciate his antagonism and not dread having to write scenes with him in them.
the point of caring about your antagonist isn’t to redeem them or to love them even despite their actions. after all, if you want your audience to feel something about what you’ve written, then you should be feeling something about it to. but when your antagonist is something you dread to write, you should consider switching gears. let yourself love the process of creating a hateable character, whether it be catharsis or rereading an antagonist’s dialogue and enjoying how scummy you made them sound.
so let yourself care about your antagonists. it makes writing AND reading a more engaging experience.
#writeblr#writing#writing advice#please take this with a grain of salt i’m just a hobbyist writer#also this doesn’t necessarily apply to your work etc#but yeah!! try enjoying the process of writing your antagonists it’s sooo much fun#i giggle every time i write one of my antagonists being a fake ass pretentious bitch because he’s so terrible.. he’s so easy to hate..#but it’s so FUN to write him being terrible.

Feeling real 👎 about the bird flu impacting raw pet food. It hasn’t impacted any brands in Alberta but I’ll have to bring it up to my vet at the boys’ annual check up in the spring to see if it’s worth switching. I have no idea what they even COULD switch to, except maybe more expensive non-poultry raw… oughhh my wallet is crying
#pet food woes are the worst#pet food is the worst part of owning a pet#too many options I never know what to do always so expensive#doesn’t help that the boys have so many dietary restrictions#OUGH#before anyone says anything this is just a vent#no suggestions pls#or lectures on raw food I’m aware of the non-bird flu risks#I understand raw is not always the safest but it is what the vet reccomends after many food trials and tests and long discussions#Dave can’t eat vegetables or grains and Kepler is allergic to preservatives found in processed pet food#delete later

There is nothing more valuable to me than the long and solitary process of going from being really shit at something to slightly less shit. I'm not being sarcastic! i love making absolute garbage and believing in it and spending enough time gnawing on it that it becomes merely quite bad.

A Wild and Precious Life — Chapters 1 & 2
Summary
In early 2024, Newt Scamander is injured during a conservation project in Burkina Faso. As usual, he gets better, but then… he doesn't. Meanwhile, Tina Goldstein is head of the auror office within the UK’s Department of International Magical Cooperation. Her sister and Jacob have just moved to London; and she and Newt are meant to be married in a matter of weeks. When Newt’s routine checkup suddenly turns concerning, the news comes hurtling at a speed they aren't prepared for... It turns out wizards aren’t impervious to everything; and now Newt and Tina are stuck between a wedding and a timeline that's determined to change their lives.
Opening Scene (Chapter 1)
Newt pounded up the stairs from the basement and screeched to a halt in the kitchen, hiking boots squeaking on the tiles as he dropped his [perfectly unordinary] briefcase onto the floor just a wee bit harder than he’d meant to... His eyes scanned the room for wherever he’d last left the tea kettle and – invariably – his ever-missing, godforsaken phone.
The sound of Tina’s hair-drying charms buzzed from the bathroom as he cast a location spell for both:
A bright ping!! drew him to a stack of papers by the stove (which, shuffling through them, revealed his half-charged phone, already stacked with notification banners…); while a gasping hiss! led him straight to the kettle in the sink, where he’d apparently left it the night before when they’d hurried to the bedroom.
(Monday night had been Tina’s 28th birthday and—after a well-deserved get-together at her favourite restaurant with their her various friends and colleagues… Well… Upon returning home, Tina had simply needed celebrating.)
But now, in the light of day—(as Newt struggled with the inevitably stubborn lid on the top of the kettle)—he caught sight of a pale gold band beside a maroon-stained pair of wine glasses, the ring’s warmth contrasting subtly with the brush-stained silver of their kitchen sink...
He gave up on the kettle and charmed it open instead, shouting over his shoulder (always a battle over Tina’s clatter in the bathroom — gentle mornings were not her forté):
“Tina love!”
But he paused then, swearing under his breath, for he’d enchanted the water in the kettle to boil before even thinking of setting it on a trivet, and thus his hand—
“You’ve left your ring by the sink again!”
He shook out his burnt fingers with a huff, pulling a battered green travel mug (Central African Conservation Conference - 2018) from a cabinet just as the drawer in the bathroom finally slammed shut—
“I keep telling you…” he muttered absently, and Tina’s routine morning noises suddenly died out. “It’ll get knocked into the drain. Or Teddy’ll run off with it. And I haven’t got another royalty check until after the wedding, so if you could –”
But he stopped mid-sentence then, for Tina was suddenly beside him with an abrupt and unexpected tenderness, slipping the citrine ring back onto her finger and pressing a firm kiss to his cheek. She dropped a fragrant Earl Grey tea bag into his mug before nudging it toward him and suggesting firmly, crossing her arms–
“Add honey to that, Newt. Your cough sounded terrible this morning.”
Newt flicked his eyes up to her at that, summoning the honey with an acquiescent but mildly amused grimace. “It did, didn’t it?”
For good measure, he squeezed a half lemon into his travel mug with a half-smile (the tagline ‘I survived erumpent mating season!!’ still made him laugh, even six years later); and Tina moved a step closer to brush a lock of unruly hair from his brow.
“And ask about it at the healers, won’t you?” she prompted. “ When you go in for your check-up? At your final examination this afternoon.”
“Oh - um - right… ”
He most definitely hadn’t forgotten about his second [three-month] follow-up for his January runespoor bite. (There was a reason Tina had merged their calendars the moment they moved in together the year before, and it certainly wasn’t because Newt was the superior timekeeper...)
“It’s been two weeks and the pepper-up’s not working,” Tina continued from where she’d crouched in front of the refrigerator, eventually selecting a Pyrex dish of leftovers to shove into her bag. “Maybe you picked somethin’ up in Spain last month?”
“Ah - no - I couldn’t have,” he murmured, flicking his wand to imbue Hello Newt!!! St. Mungo’s! 12.20! on his hand with waterproof ink and a buzzing reminder spell so he wouldn’t forget. “I mean, apart from pox, humans can’t catch things from dragons, can they? Their diseases simply aren’t zoonotic. And none of the ones I was working with were even sick. Breeding consult, you see,” he clarified.
“Fine, Mr. Scamander,” Tina harrumphed goodnaturedly, and then she was back at the counter, reheating coffee to pour into her own simple travel mug. “But – honey – coughing up a lung under the chuppah wouldn’t be cute, so maybe humour me this time.”
“Well. When you put it that way…” he conceded, returning to the whirlwind of his own morning preparations to get out the door. “Yes, I’ll ask. Of course.”
He had just finished attaching a leather strap to his briefcase to make travelling easier when he suddenly – (actually) – caught his fiancee’s eye, fully registering her striking comportment and demeanour for the first time that morning.
He immediately paused (frozen), for Tina stood particularly straight-backed, in an uncharacteristically well-polished outfit, having apparently swapped her casual slacks and button-ups for a fitted maroon pantsuit, a crisp white dress shirt, and a pair of no-nonsense (but brightly shined) chunky black oxfords.
She raised her eyebrows as Newt continued to stare at her. “Yes, Newt?”
“You - “ He paused to swallow. “You just look very nice today, Tina…”
A beat.
“Thank you.” She smiled and blushed, adjusting the lapel of her cropped suit jacket before taking a step closer to smooth out a wrinkle on Newt’s—conversely—well-loved summer cardigan.
In return, he ran a gentle thumb over a spot on her neck, dissolving the light love bruise back into the creamy tone of her skin with a subtly murmured wandless spell.
“I’ve got planning for that international summit—the one in Vienna—this morning,” she explained with a slight frown. “And then meetings with the French consulate all afternoon.” A huff. “Like, all afternoon, Newt… It’s a pain! But Queenie insists I’ll be taken more seriously if I look my best, so—”
She gestured at her outfit –
“Here we are, I guess.”
Newt tilted his head with a frown, rocking on his heels before patting down his pockets to check for keys, notebook, phone.
“You ought to be taken seriously because you’re the best international auror they’ve got,” he argued haltingly, shoving his wand up his sleeve. “Not just because you dress better than them.”
She guffawed and patted him on the back (in such a way that he would have been offended if it were anyone else), flicking her wand to turn the lights off.
“It might be 2024, Newt, but I’m still a witch under the age of thirty in international magical relations.”
And then they both wove through the slightly cluttered front room of their flat (currently littered with various wedding paraphernalia) toward the door, travel mugs clutched tightly in hand, as she concluded:
“It’s not exactly a walk in the park.”
“Yeah, yes, that’s true,” he acknowledged, when they paused on the stoop. Tina fumbled for her keys and then cast a subtle protective ward on the door behind them. “S’not exactly a walk in the park as an autistic scientist either, I suppose.”
“No, it’s not,” she laughed, and then he leaned in—accidentally bumping their mugs together—to press one hand to the side of her face and soundly kiss her.
“And that,” she murmured against his lips, as they pulled slightly apart, “is precisely why we work…”
Newt smiled, and then shoved Pickett back down into his cardigan pocket when he began to peek out.
“But please don’t lose track of time in the highlands and miss your appointment again!” Tina suddenly pleaded. “I just want everything cleared before the wedding, before our honeymoon…”
“Look,” he countered flatly, “I won’t forget as long as you don’t forget the takeaway.”
“Deal. Thai. 6PM,” she agreed, taking a step further away from him and then looking both ways to check for any particularly attentive Muggles… (They’d at least long ago charmed the front of the flat to be resistant to technological recording devices.) “All clear then.”
A beat.
“Be safe, Newt!” she insisted with finality, and he rolled his eyes.
They squeezed one another’s hands one last time before dropping them into pockets and – on the count of three – they each disapparated to their respective jobs: one to a stuffy conference room in the Department for International Magical Cooperation, and the other one to a crevasse on the highest mountain in the United Kingdom.

CRAZY THEORY INCOMING
I think my brain just glitched...
Ok so... Camelot. Arthur made Camelot through the power of Chaos right. At first, I found it weird that Arthur even needed to steal parts of Britannia to make Camelot. Chaos is incredibly powerful, it literally made three powerful deities that made their own realms for their own created races. So... why can't Arthur just make Camelot on its own. Then, it was later established that these places and people in Camelot are made through the wishes and wants of the people, without it there's nothing. If Chaos is so powerful, why is Arthur limited through that? Then it clicked.
The Sacred Tree is still alive
The Sacred Tree is essentially an embodiment of Nature. Disaster, a power granted by The Sacred Tree to the Fairy Kings is an ability that grants control over life and death.
The 'people' within Camelot function like a physical illusion. They're 'alive' but not really. They're just there, fueled by a wish. They don't even grow old, they just stay like that because that's all they are an illusion, they're not alive because there's no life.
The Demon King's power is darkness. The Supreme Diety's power is light. The Sacred Tree's power is life.
Notice how unnatural-looking the Chaos monsters are. Almost demonic even. That, to me, shows that Chaos is unstable.
The Demon King and his Commandments and The Supreme Deity and her graces are somewhat of an extension of themselves, it's their power passed to others. If we correlate this to Chaos creating the DK, SD and ST as Chaos sacrificing parts of their power, that power is lost or weakened because they have it. But the DK and SD are no longer present and since they are created by Chaos, that power most likely goes back to it. That is my assumption at least. But the graces are still out there. Ludo, Sariel, and Tarmiel died with their graces so they'll just go back after a few thousand years with their graces so that part of the SD probably didn't even go back to Chaos.
I made a post way back and on that, I compared the Commandments and Graces to Disaster as all three are just an extension of the DK, SD, and ST's power, in there I noted how Disaster is different as all three Fairy Kings can use it even if they're all present, it's not like the Commandments and Graces that only one person can use it. So that is also interesting.
There is also a complete lack of Sacred Tree information and just now, in 4kota is literally the first time we ever step foot inside the Fairy Realm and we got more Fairy Lore which is really nice. Now, what if the reason behind the lack of information about the Sacred Tree is because of Chaos. Nakaba doesn't want us to know anything about Chaos up until the very end because of 4kota, because he wants to keep Chaos a mystery.
In Chapter 140, Tioreh told us about these giant mushrooms that grow on top of the Sacred Tree's roots that are called "God Seats". The DK and SD are the only ones primarily dubbed as Gods. So that part is also interesting.
This is the Demon King's last words to Meliodas.
"You will regret this..."
In Cursed By Light, before Meliodas and Zeldris beat the Supreme Deity, she says that the only way to maintain balance in the world is by continuing the Holy War.
Before Chaos is established, this is just nonsense. But now that we know... I have a feeling that the DK and SD sealing away Chaos has more to it than what we know. Also, isn't it fun that two beings born to be in conflict with one another worked together to seal Chaos? Now, we don't get to know more because they're gone but the Sacred Tree is still around... so there's that.
I have a huge feeling that Nakaba will give us some juicy lore about the Sacred Tree in the future. Either that or I'm high on copium.

minecraft should let you turn your broken glass back into sand to be reused. because you can literally just do that in real life
#sand is largely composed of little bits of quartz#and the change that occurs when melting it into glass is (mostly) physical rather than chemical#its functionally the same thing just reshaped#you can grind glass back down into sand and have very little difference between authentic sand#aside from the fact that the grains will prob be a little sharper unless youre also using water to round the grains in the process#anyway minecraft let me reuse my glass blocks without having to have fucking silk touch#minecraft

An effective strategy to inhibit grain coarsening: Construction of multi-element co-segregated grain boundary complexion
To date, ceramic scientists have devised various strategies to impede grain coarsening. The utilization of nano-sized precursor powder can not only facilitate the densification process, but also yields bulk ceramics with reduced grain sizes compared with micron-sized precursor powder. Rapid sintering bypasses the low-temperature surface diffusion stage and directly enters the high-temperature sintering stage through rapid heating, rendering it an effective way to inhibit grain coarsening. However, these aforementioned strategies fail to prevent coarsening during the application of nano-ceramics in medium- or high-temperature environments. The introduction of the secondary phase can also enhance thermal stability of nanograins. By pinning grain boundaries (GBs) and reducing their mobility, the secondary phase effectively inhibits coarsening. However, it is challenging to achieve a uniform distribution of the secondary phase, which may cause detrimental effects on other properties.
