Books: Language, creoles, varieties: Granget, Repiso and Fon Sing (eds.) (2023)
This book offers a selection of papers dealing with second language acquisition, foreign language teaching and creole linguistics inspired by the scientific legacy of Mauritian-born scholar Georges Daniel Véronique (Port-Louis, 1948). An important part of the book is devoted to the description of learner varieties with a focus on sociolinguistic factors, such as the learner situation – from asylum seekers to Erasmus students –, the degree of familiarity with the target language – having or not p http://dlvr.it/T8rRl4

“Hmm…” Harry knocked on the bunk bed he had just transfigured, the wood sounding solid enough, but would it hold up? Did he even - truly - know what a bunk bed looked like?
He took a step back, making a mental note to ask Hermione to check up on it, before putting his wand in his back pocket. It was a terrible habit, Ron often telling him stories of wizards who had blasted their buttcheeks off, but he’d never be magic enough to enjoy wearing robes in the summer, least of all in his own home.
They were at the cottage, getting it ready for the kids to return from Hogwarts. They had received an owl from Herbert last week, their oldest bringing a friend with him for the first time, Lily and Sirius locking down their summer visit lists well before easter.
They had driven down in the car, the careful enchantments making the trunk big enough for all their luggage, though Ron was always extra cautious whenever anyone spelled the car. Harry wasn’t too worried though, their experience with the Ford Angelia putting it firmly into the category of healthy paranoia.
He hadn’t expected any of his kids to choose Muggle studies, but Lily had jumped on it - surprising all of them, their Ravenclaw daughter as fascinated as her grandfather about the potentials in the mix of the Magical and Muggle word. In contrast to Arthur, Lily did actually understand Muggle technology, having grown up around the family computers and TV’s who needed replacement at least once a year to not develop conscience.
They had lucked out with the latest TV though, the thing apparently made with a very tranquil temperament, it’s only quirks that it refused to play football, and colored in black and white films by itself with varying degrees of success.
“Harry?!” Harry heard his name yelled through the open windows, and he peeked out, looking into the garden from the second story, Ron waving up at him. He was wearing a bright orange jumper, gardening gloves and wellington boots, dirt smudge on his cheek. He had been in the garden all day, putting everything back in order, their brief stay over Christmas not leaving any time for the outdoors, the Burrow no longer big enough to sleep all the children and grandchildren.
“Hey.” Harry smiled, his stomach down a slight flip. It was ridiculous that he still felt this way, but he just couldn’t help it when Ron was so handsome.
Even after so many years, he was pleasantly surprised at how good it felt to allow himself to think of Ron as handsome, to acknowledge his attraction to his husband.
He barely ever thought about the Dursley’s anymore, Private Drive something that belonged in another lifetime, but sometimes, sometimes he felt the lingering clench in his stomach, and the sound of Vernon’s voice ranting about ‘those disgusting faggots’ in his head.
“You got time to come help me with the pitch?”
Erecting their own Quidditch Pitch had been a project years in the making, Hermione teasingly calling it their extra baby. There was always the small Weasley family pitch up in the hills, but once they had started talking about it, they hadn’t been able to let go of the idea.
It wasn’t uncommon for him and Ron to spend long summer afternoons slaving away their pitch, going through Herbology books in search of the best plantlife to shield it from view, the efforts of concealment mostly to appease Hermione, who was very firm on them at least keeping up appearance about upholding the Statute of Secrecy.
Not that there was a risk of any Muggles just wandering in.
The majority of the farmland around Ottery St Catchpole had slowly been brought up by the Wealsey clan and their army of spouses, Bill and Fleur on the plot nearest to them on the right, while George and Angelina resided on their left.
They each dealt with the aftermaths of the war in their own way. Harry barely had nightmares anymore, and Ron had gotten better about saying a firm ‘I love you’ whenever he left.
Hermione had always been the best amongst them at handling her emotions, mostly because she packed them up into neat little boxes and intellectualized them - Hermione refusing to even think about returning to the mind healer they had been seeing for weeks after he had delivered that particular message.
Hermione’s biggest coping mechanism was the layer of wards on all of their properties, but her true masterpiece was the confundus charms she had carefully woven around the entertiny of where the Weasley clan resided. Harry didn’t know much about charms, but Percy had once said he thought they rivaled the ones placed on the Quidditch World Cup, a compliment like that impossible to pull from Percy if he didn’t mean it.
“What about lunch?” Harry twisted his wrist, checking his watch. It was the very same one he had gotten for his 17th birthday, Fabian Prewett’s watch somehow surviving the war. It was a little past 12, Hermione usually taking a break for lunch around 1.
They had only arrived that morning, Hermione giving them both quick kisses before disappearing into her office, saying she’d get some light work done, but the owls had already started coming and going. Her cottage office was connected to its very own floo channel, but Hermione still had a personal menagerie of three eagle-owls, Ginny the one who insisted that it wasn’t fair to the bird if she only had one.
“Mums sending over some pies!” Ron grinned, taking his gloves off, not bothering to summon his wand to float them to the tool shed, instead just throwing them in the direction of his watering can, the unexpected level of tidiness he always displayed inside completely leaving him when he was outside. “Steak and kidney. They’re coming by floo soon.”
Harry had expected that the two of them would have to whip something up, but now that Molly was in charge of lunch, the day had suddenly opened up in a whole new way.
“You know,” Harry leaned out the window, resting his arms on the window still. “We could work on the pitch,” Harry smiled, “or-”
“Or?” Ron raised an eyebrow, looking up at Harry, already catching on that he was feeling mischievous.
“It’s nice weather today.” Harry nodded towards the sky, “We could check on the privacy wards, suggest a romantic picnic for three in the backyard, no kids about, and hope we can convince Hermione to take her top off.”
Ron’s eyes widened, the fact that they were completely alone dawning on him as well, a thick cheshire grin spreading on his husbands lips.
“You get started on the romance bit.” Ron was already taking control, stepping up with a plan like he so often did. “I’ll go wash up.”
“Meet you in 20!” Harry closed the window, happiness bubbling in his chest.
He really, really loved summer.
