I have not been able to commit to the larger wips I have in my folders, so instead I worked on some color morphs of the Icespine Grassland Rhinos, an AU subspecies of BotW canon's Great Horned Rhinoceros. These are work animals found in Icespine, which is a steppe-type region located between Snowhead and Ikana Canyon.

Do you think you could make a list from the strongest demon king to the weakest?

Maybe Wukong's sworn brothers other than the demon bull king wouldn't be included because we never see them fight (although I understand they fought alongside Wukong when he rebelled against heaven?)

I could only give out a rough outline since I'm not really a 'power scaler' and honestly it's hard to say if by strong you mean the most difficult or if they had powerful attacks. Most of Wukong's worst fights aren't, particularly because his enemies were physically powerful but just had a strong weapon or a single powerful attack while being a glass canon.

While Wukong's sworn brothers did join the fight against heaven, their own armies were captured. Not sure if this was to reflect Wukong's favoritism toward his own monkeys or to show how his sworn brothers were outclassed but I am not even going to try to guess.

So this will be more of a list of Wukong Most DIFFICULT fights to the easiest fights.

This is my personal take on the Demon Kings and as you can see, I did include demons that aren’t technically Demon Kings but rather the main antagonist in their arc. This also doesn't include ALL the demons or any gods or immortals that Wukong has fought with either, these are just the Demon Kings (or at least demons that are the big bad in their arcs) so there are still other antagonists that are in the book on here.

I am solely going on how the fights went in my notes and what I can remember so if you remember these fights going differently and actually want to add any details please let me know. I didn't include anything that the demons like 'claim' to have or powers or feats that they have done, just what they ACTAULLY did in the story, cause actions speak louder than words.

There could be grey area with the demons with magic items. And you could argue how easily the demons that caused Wukong the most damage were easily defeated by other gods just because they could bypass their one (1) magic spell gimic that was just giving Wukong trouble. Two of these Demon Kings were taken out by the SAME ROOSTER just because they are insect demons and roosters are their natural enemies. So take that as you will... Other demons Kings were defeated just cause their owner showed up before they could really fight too.

Laozi's Powerful Diamond Cutter

My first article of 2024 focuses on Laozi's "diamond cutter" (jingang zhuo, 金鋼琢; a.k.a. "diamond snare," jingang tao, 金鋼套), an uber powerful holy treasure. The fillet first appears in chapter six when it is used as a blunt throwing weapon to incapacitate Sun Wukong during his rebellion. It later reappears in chapters 50 to 52 as a mysterious, shiny, white string of pearls used by a buffalo spirit to instantly suck away magic weapons and animals and defeat even destructive elemental attacks, kind of like a personal black hole generator with a built-in pocket dimension. It’s so powerful, in fact, that even the sight of it is enough to make Monkey and a host of other gods flee for their lives.

My article quotes all mentions of the weapon, complete with the original Chinese; explains how it was created; describes the history of terminology that ties the treasure to diamond-pointed tools used by craftsmen west of China to work hard stone like jade; demonstrates that it is a mirrored literary element to Sun Wukong’s headband and Prince Nezha‘s fire wheel; and, finally, explores its influence on three fillet-like throwing weapons from another Chinese vernacular classic.

The Indian rhinoceros, also called the Indian rhino, greater one-horned rhinoceros or great Indian rhinoceros, is a rhinoceros species native to the Indian subcontinent where they can be found in a handful of national parks throughout the countries of India and Nepal. The Indian rhino alongside its close relative the Javan rhino make up the genus rhinoceros. Unlike most other species of modern rhino which are typically solitary animals, the Indian rhino can often be found living in social groups of upwards of 6 individuals typically consisting of mothers and there calves as well as subadults, said groups are occasionally accompanied by a bull but as they grow older males grow more solitary in nature. They typically inhabit grasslands, open dry forest, and riverine woodlands where they feed upon grasses, roots, leaves, branches, fruits, and submerged and floating aquatic plants. Because of there size indian rhinos have few natural predators except for tigers and mugger crocodiles which occasionally prey upon young, elderly, or infirm rhinos. Males are typically larger than females standing at upwards of 6ft tall at the shoulder, 12ft in length, and 4,800lbs in weight compared to females at 5ft tall at the shoulder, 11ft in length, and 3,500lbs in weight. This makes the Indian rhino the second largest living rhino species behind the white rhino, and also the second largest land animal in asian behind the asian elephant. These rhinos have a thick grey-brown skin with pinkish skin folds and one horn on their snout. Their upper legs and shoulders are covered in wart-like bumps. They have very little body hair, aside from eyelashes, ear fringes and tail brush. Adult males sport huge armored neck folds. After a 15-16 month pregnancy mother Indian rhinos will typically give birth to a single calf, which will remain by there mothers side for at least 2 years. Females reach sexual maturity sooner than males at around 4 years compared to males a 5 years of age. Under ideal conditions an Indian rhino may live upwards of 40 years.

Some good news from Indonesia: the Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary in Way Kambas National Park has just announced that on November 25th their female Sumatran Rhino named Delilah gave birth to a healthy male calf!!!

The as of yet unnamed calf is the second calf born at the sanctuary this month, and his mother Delilah was the second calf ever born at the sanctuary as well as the first captive bred Sumatran rhino to successfully give birth in captivity, so this is great news for captive breeding efforts of this species. There are only somewhere between 34 and 47 Sumatran rhinos in the wild, so captive breeding is incredibly important for this species survival. The sanctuary plans to eventually release the rhinos born at the sanctuary in order to help build the wild population back up. This baby is the fifth calf to be born at the sanctuary, and in addition to being Delilah’s first calf, he is also the first calf to be sired from his father, Harapan, who was originally born in the Cincinnati Zoo.

The mother and calf are currently being held in a naturalistic enclosure at the sanctuary (as the goal is to try to get them to live a life as similar to in the wild as possible) and are being heavily guarded to protect them from poachers. This species has suffered so much due to a combination of poaching for their horns as well as habitat loss. They are also pretty hard to keep and breed in captivity due to their shy nature, so this calf is amazing news!

Also! Fun fact: this species of rhino is the closest living relative of the extinct Woolly Rhinoceros (Coelodonta antiquitatis). Which makes sense since the Sumatran rhino is the hairiest of all the living rhino species, which you can especially see with the babies.

ive watched the tlovm s2 clip 100 times, so heres my attempt to recreate the conclave's designs based on their models. i adore them all so much.

to start off, heres the conclave approaching at the very end of season 1. now that we've seen the dragons individually, im confident identifying each of them!!

raishan is an ugly beast and i LOVE it!!!! her wings being super tattered is a great touch. im just sad they didnt actually show her disease scar(s), but i suppose they have to keep that a mystery

vorugal is shown a ton, i love that his wings are more like a paraglider than regular dragon wings. gives him a super cool silhouette! he reminds me of a rhinoceros with the big muscle-y arms and horn

they only show thordaks underbelly, hes a big lizard. i like how the crystal looks a lot

umbrasyl's design definitely is the most different from common interpretations of him and i fucking LOVE IT!!! giving him an acid pouch is amazing!!!! and the spikes??

overall theyre all amazing designs, the team did a great job at giving them super distinct palettes and wing shapes to help tell them apart without JUST the colours red/white/black/green. ^_^ 10/10

The Unicorn - by Eurwentala

It's late May in the mammoth steppe somewhere in Eastern Europe, about 40,000 years ago. The steppe is in bloom with carnations, buttercups, goat's-beards, and wild chives. A lonely Elasmotherium sibiricum has alarmed the lapwings (Vanellus vanellus) by walking too close to their nests hidden among the grass. The giant rhinoceros has still matted strands of winter fur hanging from it's coat.

Elasmotherium, the great one-horned rhino of Pleistocene Eurasia, has been suggested as the origin of the unicorn myth. It has been speculate to have lived into historical times, supported by some interesting, though vague historical records of giant one-horned bulls and Chinese depictions of big, dark unicorns. There is also a probable cave painting from France, on which this reconstruction is mostly based. The painting's location in France is a bit of a mystery, though, as there are no known fossils from Western Europe.

- they can smell and taste with all parts of their body

- millipedes have four legs for each body segment while centipedes have only two (general fact)

buck would have one as a pet (they make great pets) if eddie let him (chris also wants one, buck has convinced him and they’re making a plan) eddie hates bugs :]

we also can’t forget the silly guys that buck likes (somewhat cannon) of maggots, because that one episode (can’t remember which cba to find it) with the girl and the bugs in her face and buck just holds the jar like “woah” and has his goofy smile plastered on

tks favourite is spiders, mostly any kind (but specifically tarantulas), velvet spiders (eresus walchengeri) and ‘blue tarantulas’ or pink-toed tarantulas (caribena versicolor)

- spiderlings, their color is a dark bluish-black but will become very colorful as it matures

- their colour can range from bright blue to have pinks, greens, browns and reds when grown

carlos already hates reptiles (which tk would fill the house with if he could) so naturally carlos also hates spiders (tk catches them in a glass and lets them outside when he finds one)

they also bond over beetles, specifically fighting beetles like horned hercules, stag beetles. (they’re all usually under the category or rhinoceros beetles but i like their silly names yk??)

my personal favourite and i think tk would like also is a goliath beetle (can be black and white or have red in them too) !!

Icespine fauna includes the Great Horned Rhinos from Hebra and Tabantha, as well as an original rhino subspecies. Demons tame, breed, and ride them in this era. Links for scale!

Hollow knight bugs and real world species: P2

Hornet: So we know that Hornet is the daughter of the pale king and Herrah, making her some sort of biological monstrosity. But what bug is she based on? My best bet would be a horned orb weaver, specifically either a long-horned orb-weaver or Gasteracantha versicolor based on coloration and her horns.

Zote: So the in game/logical answer is that zote is whatever type of generic beetle that team cherry concocted from stag, Hercules, and rhinoceros beetles. However I think that’s really boring, I personally subscribe to one of the single best crackfics in the fandom Camouflage of Great Renown and think zote is a nosk that left Hallownest and lost his memories before retuning and adopting his persona. It’d even explain how he’s actually really hard to damage(see coliseum) and how he keeps getting places before ghost does.

Midwife: So I’ve seen a lot of people headcanon that she’s a centipede of some sort, and it kinda makes sense? Like centipedes are actually really good at caring for their young and protect them until they’re able to hunt on their own, so I think it’s a plausible and likely theory. That’s said I’d like to present some alternative ideas. Midwife to me, looks a lot more like she has an earwigs body shape, based mostly on the width of her. That said her behavior matches up far better with a trapdoor spider and she lacks antennas. Overall I’d say a trapdoor spider is more likely as an alternative reading of her species.

Lord fool: So here’s the thing with lord fool, there’s a lot of evidence he’s a higher being of some sort. Most of it comes down to the way the fools, while infected, seem less damaged by the radiance and seem to keep a large portion of their mind intact. Plus his position-dead on his throne- seems earily similar to a certain pale wyrm. Interestingly however it seems like his mask is actually just a mask, because we can see the top of his head and it looks to just be soft carapace. He’s also got six limbs so we know he isn’t an arachnid, or crustacean. My best guess would be either a deathwatch beetle(the texture on them looks like a good match) or a more likely a green junebeetle. Him being a junebeetle also matches nicely with how the fools are regarded as invasive, or not belonging in Haloownest. My last theory is that the bug the colosseum is built in may be the Lord fools old shell, aka wyrm.

Bretta: She looks a lot like a hair soft-shelled beetle to me, but her colors are all wrong. Based on that I’d say she’s actually a female scarab of some sort(sorry y’all my beetle knowledge isn’t up to par just yet!!)

The Hunter: So I’m really and truly unconvinced that the hunter is a bug, or crustacean, or arachnid of any kind. Bro visibly has a spine of some sort and the only beings with hands remotely similar to his that we see are THK, The shade lord, and the collector. That said we do still know he has an exoskeleton. I’ll admit I’m kinda stumped, I’d love to hear what y’all think. Verdict: inconclusive.

Baldurs: So I’m pretty convinced that these fellas are a pill millipede of some sort, they have the right number of legs and do curl up for defense. Additionally they spit infection, which I imagine when non infected would be some sort of toxin— something millipedes are well known for.

Mosskin: So this covers the mosskin as a whole, I’ll probably make a post for them specifically eventually. They’re obviously creatures that are in a symbiotic relationship with plants(because Unn). The only ones I feel super comfortable giving a specific species atm are the moss chargers who I feel are a species of velvet worm, mostly due to Unn being a big old slug and them living in a more tropical region. These velvet worms essentially copied the homework of the leaf sheep sea slug—which steals its ability to photosynthesize from the algae it eats.

Do those who are expelled from heaven become demons? I think you told me something like that about Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing. I also didn't understand the story of the Yellow Robe Demon very well. about the part about his romance with Jade Maiden and the whole reincarnation thing. Was he a demon in the beginning? Or did he become a demon when he left heaven?

So I have explained in a past post here of how demons are made.

From there you can see how people in heaven, or rather celestials, either leave or are expelled from heaven and turn into demons. Yellow Robe Demon has said that he left heaven from his position as one of the 28 constellations in order to be with his love the Jade Maiden. The Jade Maiden for whatever reason reincarnated into a human instead of just leaving heaven (maybe this was an easier path considering that leaving heaven without permission is a harder thing to accomplish for a servant). But in any case, she didn't remember the Yellow Robe Demon or their prior love and thus he kidnapped her. Tragic romance.

But once he was caught he was brought back to heaven and lost the demonic powers that he gained while eating humans on Earth. Here is a lost of demons that were once from heaven and became demons.

Please note that Sanzang, the Princess of India, and Biguaxiu were the only fallen celestials who are human because they reincarnated properly. Zhu Bajie also reincarnated but he didn't lose his cultivation when he went to earth and therefore became a demon pig rather than living out his animal form in peace and waiting to be reincarnated into a human. All other fallen celestials choose to leave, with the expectation on Wujing who was banished, and it is to be expected that they turned into demons for giving into their desires and started to consume human flesh.

Pets have a far easier time to cultivate in heaven as they have access to scripture or magic items to aid in their escape and power growth, giving them a large advantage if they make it to earth and become demon rulers if they so wish.

No rhinos were poached last year in the world's largest reserve for the endangered great one-horned rhinoceros, India's Assam state, in what authorities said was the first time since 1977.

Poachers killed more than 190 rhinos in Assam between 2000 and 2021 but none was killed last year, according to data shared by the Assam Police. According to IFAW, the greater one-horned rhino, also known as the Indian rhino, were once widespread across the entire northern region of India until they were decimated in the early 19th century due to the popularity of sport hunting. As a result, it is estimated that in 1908 there were only 12 rhinos left in Kaziranga, India. Thankfully, Assam, is now home to the world’s largest population of greater one-horned rhinos, with nearly 2,900 across the region today.
