Helianthus annus
(Common Annual Sunflower)
(Image by John Miller from the Illustratio systematis sexualis Linnaeani, 1804)
History and Etomology:
The sunflower was named in the 1560s, after the Greek word helios, meaning "sun", and the Greek word for flower, "anthos". The sunflower is a heliotrope, which is any plant that face the sun.
Flower Symbolism:
The sunflower, specifically the common sunflower, symbolizes adoration, loyalty, and well wishes. Different kinds of sunflowers like the dwarf or the perennial have slightly different meanings, but all sunflowers typically share at least this base symbolism.
Fun Facts:
Sunflowers can grow up to 300 centimeters (nearly 10 feet!) tall
The disk, or center of a sunflower is technically made up of many tiny flowers, that are pretending to be one larger flower to attract more pollinators
Some people think Clytie, an Oceanid from Greek mythology, was turned into a sunflower. She was turned into a heliotrope, but typically not a sunflower. Depends on who you ask!

“I stayed silent. I realised that when I had seen all those suitors clamour in the hall for Helen, I had believed they were there because they loved her, but I had been wrong. They hated her. They hated her because she was so beautiful and because she made them want her so much. Nothing brought them more joy than the fall of a lovely woman. They picked over her reputation like vultures, scavenging for every scrap of flesh they could devour.”

The most cursed thing Rachel did in LO is not the bad portrayal of Persephone or of the other Theoi, or their contradictory modern setting, or she naming characters with english names (Hank and Jill XD)
Is the fact that Aphrodite's children are called Philia, Storge, Pragma, Philautia, Mania, Ludus and Agape
She literally named one of her daughters "thing" 😂
Good thing Rachel doesn't know the word Skata; She'll be like, "and this nymph is called Skata, which in ancient greek says "The Flowing of Waters" 🤩✨

HELLO MY DEAR WHAT A COINCIDENCE IT IS THAT ONE OF MY FAV WORDS IS ALSO A GREEK WORD THAT I SAW ON TUMBLR ALMOST 10 YEARS AGO ㅠㅠㅠㅠ (im really your "big" sis fr😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣). IT'S THIS ONE!!!!!!! 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍:
maybe i really have a thing for words related to "perfect" "beautiful" or "time" haha sometimes i like how "divine timing" sounds too 😆❤️❤️❤️❤️
kairos!
that is such a beautiful word! to me it is just perfection, the time, place and dimension... I never thought that this could be put into words it's just so pretty!
And im sure it is divine timing at it's best, like nothing could ever go wrong in that space, this would feel so euphemistic, that kind of moment that would make you smile for no reason!
Big sis this word suits you and your aesthetic a lot me thinks! how it’s just about that exact moment and another greek word (these archaic greek and latin words have something really weirdly attractive about them im sure) also 10 years wow, (the legacy of this word!) I was probably learning adjectives and tenses at that time lol.
I loved this so much, and I absolutely love how you come up with something super fun and interesting all of the time! you’ve opened my eyes to so many new things let me introduce to some new thangs ty darling <3

Studying Romans Chapter 2 and came across this amazing word
“There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek, but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality” Romans 2:9-10
So one version says “upon every soul of man that doeth evil” and I thought the soul part was interesting so I went to the handy dandy Bible Hub to check out the Greek.
(So psychēn is used 41 other times in the bible but other variations are used as well.)
So I followed the rabbit trail to the Strong’s Concordance and got this.
And isn’t that just so beautiful!
Free will and individuality and singular importance to God is right there, with every breath we breath and with every thought we have.
Praise God for everything He does for us, and His never ending Grace!
I also did a quick study of the word kindness that I still have to organize my thoughts on but wow that one was a cool change in perspective as well! I love digging into the Hebrew and Greek.
