i think i’ve realized (as i have waffled back and forth many times on whether i actually like addek as a ship) that what bums me out the most about their divorce isn’t the end of their marriage, it’s the end of their friendship. like, no other character on the show has that extensive of a history with another character really. most of the other core friendships and relationships begin at the start of the show. but then addison comes in and it’s like “oh they’ve been married for over a decade. they met at the beginning of med school and have spent almost all of their adulthood together” not to mention mark who is revealed to have been friends with derek since childhood, practically his brother. like, these three have such an extensive past that is just basically over before the show even really begins. and yeah sure, they’re kind of still friends. derek saves addison’s brother, mark and addie hook up in the early seasons of private practice. but it’s not the same! it just makes me sad, with the things they have revealed about what that trio dynamic was like in the past. they ALL hurt each other horribly but i think that they also know each other in ways that nobody else ever will. and obviously derek loves meredith deeply and they had a beautiful life together, but there’s just this whole chunk of his life that she doesn’t really know. she’s not close with his family, they don’t talk about his dad or his sister. she didn’t know him before he was Dr. McDreamy Shepherd, Certified Neuro God. idk. i’m rambling again but maddek just makes me so unbelievably sad when i think too much about it lmao.

when Cristina says she's Jewish and not even that her religion is important to her but just that it's something she grew up with, and Burke says to himself, well, it's not something she talks about or probably even thinks about that much, but it's something that informs how she sees the world, something that's important in the scaffolding she built for understanding how she interacts with everything around her, and goes and gets a primer on Judaism so he can understand the assumptions she makes about how things work and what they mean to her, figure out those little culture gaps and learn how to fix any misunderstandings and disagreements, and gets her a hannukiah just to have one if she wants one, not because she needs it but just because she would've had one at home even if she decided not to use it and the choice of celebrating holidays or not celebrating them isn't made for her just because she doesn't have anything to celebrate with, to make it her home too just by giving her that choice without her having to decide beforehand, it's a detail that just says so much about how much he loves her

watching grey’s anatomy for the first time after only watching private practice: another long and obnoxious stream of my thoughts while watching (season 8 edition)

-webber is taking the fall!!! i genuinely didn’t see that coming and i totally should have

-now that the dynamics are all really really settled, i’ve been really enjoying christina and alex’s antagonistic brother-sister relationship

-wasn’t webber gonna retire like a bunch of times anyway? why is everyone acting like it’s the end of the world that he’s stepping down

-derek AND meredith are both pissing me off. i know she has abandonment issues and he has trust issues but she just acts like their marriage is something that could end at any moment as if it’s no different from them dating and he acts like everything is black and white and every time somebody breaks his trust they are automatically morally bankrupt and he runs away and ignores the issue until HE deigns that there’s no issue anymore. they both need therapy if they’re gonna fully commit to this marriage.

-MAYFIELD IN 22! richard is so fucking funny for this

-owen comparing his and derek’s situations is ridiculous

-teddy is kind of hot this season

-well now i feel guilty that i made that note in the episode where her husband apparently dies

-meredith saying “if zola takes her first steps while in daycare, i’m gonna kms” is bonkers considering her history

-there’s a big suicide prevention flyer in the background of a scene. am i being paranoid or are they foreshadowing something awful?

-not the first time a woman named adele has made me cry

-owen hunt sucks harder than anyone has ever sucked before

-i don’t hate the if/then episode. it’s fun and interesting. but i think some of the choices they made make absolutely no sense. i get that the point is like “if this variable changed, what would happen” and they just did that w a bunch of variables. but w some of them i’m like… that’s not what would happen tbh.but it’s fun and silly and i like the idea of exploring alternate possibilities

-and the alternate universe weird shaped grey scrubs are so ugly. worse than the orange

-zola is so goddamn cute i can’t stand it

-go off, teddy. get his ass. (idea: me and teddy start a fight club but it’s literally just us ambushing and jumping owen for funsies)

-i can’t talk about owen anymore bc i’m getting way too worked about a pretend man who works in a pretend hospital

thinking about how izzie got cancer so young and thought she was done, nearly died in her husband's arms, and then had to wake up and find out that her best friend and basically soulmate had died but she was still alive despite having everything against her, and she had to keep going. she got better with treatment and is now living a great life with her husband and their two kids, but she lost her best friend who was perfectly healthy and had everything going for him, he was going to start a new part of his life and he died so suddenly, izzie was waiting to die and yet it never came. she was ready, he wasn't. george died without his best friend and they never got to fully say goodbye to eachother. thinking about the survivors guilt she must deal with everyday because of how many lovers and friends she lost, while she was ready to go.

I can't wait until I wake up friday morning. Not only do I have two weeks off starting that day, but I'll also have new 911 episode, Grey's episode, AND station 19 episode to watch. Fridays will be amazing.
