Songwriting and Fake Dating

Request: Luke Patterson fic? Reader is hopelessly in love with her best friend’s (Carrie) step-brother Luke but isn’t suppose to be because they are “rivals” since she is apart of Dirty Candy & he is in JATP. BUT at a party reader ends up in a sticky situation that Luke saves her from by pretending to be her boyfriend. Which eventually turns into a deal they make? “I’ll help you with your writers block (Luke/Bc shes a mad lyric genius) & I’ll help keep the lacrosse team off your back”

Masterlist Part 2 (don’t worry, this part can be read as a stand alone but if you want to read part 2 you can)

You walked through Carrie’s house, trying to find your best friend after she invited you over for choreography practice for Dirty Candy. Your bag was over your shoulder, holding a change of clothes and a water bottle just in case you needed it. Wandering into the living room, you failed to notice the teenager sitting on the sofa, his guitar waiting idly in his hands as his gaze caught onto you.

He knew exactly who you were, you had been best friends with Carrie before his mother remarried to Carrie’s dad. You had been there all the way through and you were practically like an accessory to Carrie; he has hardly seen his step-sister without you by her side. He strummed his guitar, successfully grabbing your attention as he planned to, making you jump around to face him with your eyes wide.

“y/n,” Luke greeted, giving you a small nod as you looked at him uneasily, shifting from foot to foot. His gaze returned down to his guitar as he strummed it lightly; making your gaze make its way down to the strings on the instrument also, “Carrie’s down at the gym already, you’re late I’m pretty sure. Any of the other Dirty Candy members would have their necks cut off for being this late.”

“It’s only fifteen minutes, Luke,” You snapped as Luke looked back up at you, his eyes meeting yours.

You felt bad for snapping at Luke, obviously. You knew he probably didn’t mean anything bad about what he said but it was made clear to everyone in Dirty Candy that members of Julie and the Phantoms were the rivals and even though Carrie didn’t have the conversation with you, it didn’t mean you were an exception. She didn’t have anything against her step-brother, they actually did get along but at the same time, he was in a rival band.

So that’s why you had to act like this. Especially when you were the closest to Carrie. Imagine the other Dirty Candy members seeing Carrie’s best friend being nice to the rivals? Despite it being a known fact that you were the nicest member of Dirty Candy, you still had to stick by the band.

“It’s Carrie though,” Luke snorted, shaking his head as he put his guitar down by his side as he looked back up at you, “you should know how she is.”

“She’s clearly nothing like you think she is,” You quipped back as you crossed your arms over your chest. You felt bad for having to be mean to Luke, and you hoped that he knew that but you could never actually say that, “if you spent any time with your step-sister you’d know that.”

Luke simply put his hands up in mock defeat as he gave you a small smirk, “Alright then y/n. No need to be feisty. I won’t keep you any longer, better join the rest of your band.”

Simply nodding your head, that’s what you did.

It was later on that night you found yourself at a club. It was a little after your performance with the rest of Dirty Candy and currently, Julie and the Phantoms were on. They were good, something you would never be able to deny but they would never be able to deny that Dirty Candy was good either. Everyone knew that if the two bands somehow managed to put their differences aside and worked together, they would be unstoppable. But that never happened.

“Hey, y/n!” Someone said, putting an arm over your shoulder and a whiff of cologne hit you in the face. You looked up at them, eyes catching onto the styled hair of a member of the lacrosse team. Jack, you think.

Jack dragged you over to the rest of his teammates, who gave Jack knowing smirks. You fidgeted, feeling highly uncomfortable as some of the lacrosse team checked you out without any hesitation or embarrassment, your Dirty Candy outfit still on without the wig.

“Hey I need to get going-” You excused, trying to get away from the cocky lacrosse players as you looked over at the exit of the club, desperately wanting to be there right now. However, you were cut off by the ‘aww’s of the lacrosse team as they tried to usher you even closer to them.

“C’mon y/n, sit with us, just for a little.”

A few of the other lacrosse members backed up what the lacrosse player said, trying to persuade you to stay but only made you feel more uncomfortable, “Please guys, I really have to get going-”

These boys really were not taking no for an answer as they continued to persuade you, leaving for an arm to sneak over your shoulder and a body to slide next to yours, leaving the lacrosse guys to go quiet, “Hey babe, ready to go?”

Luke. Your eyes widened slightly as you looked at him, but only Luke seemed to notice, sending you a look to go along with it leaving you to nod your head. The lacrosse teams shared glances between them but your eyes were trained on Luke, slightly sweaty from his performance, breathing heavily but still as hot as ever.

He looked over at the main body of lacrosse players, smiling at them, “Thanks for keeping my girlfriend entertained whilst she waited. Having a good night, boys.”

With that, he steered you away from the lacrosse players but you could still hear the outbursts of confusion from behind you, “Patterson and y/l/n are dating!” “No freaking way dude! I thought they hated each other!” “Me too, man! Guess they don’t.”

Luke didn’t stop until you were both outside of the club and away from sight until he let go of you, spinning you around so you looked at him. Eyes wide, you stared up at him in awe, “Luke, I don’t- Thank you.”

“Don’t sweat it, but I guess us dating will be going around school for a while, huh?” Luke said, giving you a tight-lipped smile as he rocked on his heels.

You looked down at your shoes as you mumbled back, “Yeah probably.”

“We can’t call it off now, I guess but I have a proposition.” Luke suggested, making you look up from your feet to meet his eyes again, showing to him that you were listening, “Now before you object, I already know you’re crazy freakin’ talented at writing songs. So you help me write songs, and I’ll keep the lacrosse team off your back.”

“Luke...”

“Hey, I know we’re supposed to be ‘rivals’ or whatever but it doesn’t have to be like that,” Luke said quietly, looking at you with his big, hazel eyes, “we both benefit this way. I saw how uncomfortable you were in there, so I deal with that and you help me write songs. I’ve seen some of your songs, y/n, throwing them in the music room trashcan is not a way to hide it.”

“You went fishing in the trash for my songs?”

“Not important,” Luke replied to your question, rolling his eyes at your expression; arched eyebrows, and a slight smirk on your face before he continued, “What do you say, y/n? Deal?”

“...Deal.”

Luke gave you a wide smile, walking back towards the main street, and beckoned you to follow him, shouting out to you behind him, “Just don’t fall in love with me, y/l/n.”

You laughed lightly, him joining in as well as you ran lightly to catch up with him, “In your dreams, Patterson.”

Why I think Wiseman is so cool

I think in a lot of ways he's underrated.

First of all, whilst his visual design is pretty basic Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies proved how this simplicity can be extremely effective. Indeed, as a 8 year old kid Wiseman and the Ringwraiths terrified me.

I think what makes the design work is that it encapsulates a classic lesson from horror. The scariest thing is the human imagination. You can tell Wiseman is bad news, but because you usually never saw what was under that hood (and even when you did it was mere glimpses) your mind fills in the gaps. In a sense Wiseman's design personifies the human fear of the dark.

Then you have the fact that his most effective weapon isn't his evil energy, the black crystal or anything physical. It's his powers of manipulation. In this sense he's rather unique as SM villains go, at least among the 'Final Boss' villains.

Of course we could argue Nephrite was manipulative of Naru, Jaedite manipulative of groups of people with his schemes and various other characters manipulated their underlings with threats (see Zirconia and the Amazon Trio/Galaxia and the Sailor Animates) or with hints of romance (Rubeus and the Phantom Sisters arguably Professor Tomoe and Kaorinite+the Witches 5). However, Wiseman was altogether comparatively more machiavellian about it.*

He was cut from the same cloth as Metalia, PHaraoh 90 and Nehelenia and yet he never positioned himself as the ultimate authority within the Black Moon Clan the way those guys did with their own evil organizations. Unlike Queen Beryl, Zirconia or Tomoe/Germatoid, Prince Demand genuinely believed he was in control and in charge of the Black Moon clan when in reality he was merely Wiseman's unwitting puppet. I don't think this was intentional on the part of Takeuchi or the anime staff, but it's almost like Wiseman was a sort of Evil merlin figure to the Black Moon Clan's would-be Camelot Court. He shows up out of nowhere, gives them the means and the guidance to rise to greatness and plays their humble servant, but really they are marching to his tune.

This manipulative streak though is never more poignant than with the corruption of Chibi-Usa. I'm sure some fans could draw analogies to real life child predators with this one, but I'll leave that topic for others. I just think it added a lot to the character that he pulled the same trick as Beryl with Endymion from the prior season but he was way more 'realistic' with it. He didn't just erase her memories, give her new ones and inject her with evil energy.

He took the far more subtle and insidious approach of taking memories she really had and reframing them in such a way that she'd serve his purposes. At times (like her birthday party) that was literally tweaking her memories by changing what she saw and heard. But with the memory of her parents when she tripped he simply nudged her into seeing that situation as an act of cruelty. He didn't need to put words into her parents mouths or add a sinister look to their faces. He just told her 'Boy, wasn't that cruel, remember how you felt when they did that. That proves they didn't love you...But I do...' Creepy as this is, in terms of being an effective villain and antagonist for the story he deserves major kudos for that stuff. He was smart enough to spin his lie around a grain of truth, thereby making it more convincing. This would thereby make reversing the brainwashing a lot harder than it was with Endymion. It's easier to undo brainwashing when everything you think you are has been a lie vs. the truth and the lies are more tangled up.

What made Wiseman's targeting of Chibi-Usa all the more ingenious (in the manga anyway) was that his corruption of her granted her something she wanted. She wanted to be an adult and he gave that to her meaning that even if the Senshi could reverse the brainwashing they'd have an uphill struggle as it'd involve taking away something Chibi-Usa desperately wanted.

Finally I love the fact that Wiseman is technically speaking the final villain of the series given that he is from the future and that fact played into the manga as he was integral in Galaxia's corruption, indirectly rendering him sort of the final foe in terms of publication order. One might even argue he is perhaps the most powerful villain of the whole anime considering it took 2 Silver Crystals (plus support from Mamoru and the Inner Senshi's powers) to defeat him and he was literally an entire planet.**

For these reasons he is ultimately my personal favourite SM villain.*Obviously within the context of Sailor Moon's standards. I'm not saying he'd be all that effective in House of Cards or whatever.

Top musicals

Les Misérables! (I have so much love for this musical. It's so beautiful)

Cats (the costumes are great and the songs are super catchy)

Aida (Very underrated, and the songs are great, and Adam Pascal)

Phantom of the Opera (I love this, it's a classic)

Sweeney Todd (Funny, dark, and also gory? My aesthetic)

Count of Monte Cristo (The songs are great, the costumes are so good, and the story is emotional and I love it)

I'm not sure I have any Zelda hcs but I CAN and WILL gush about Phantom Hourglass and Skyward Sword.

Okay where do I start. Phantom Hourglass. What is there NOT to love about it? The story is so heartwarming and it makes me cry every time.

The world is so creative with so many different kinds of themes. Like, honestly, the isle of ruins, the isle of ember, and the isle of frost are brilliant.

Also the temples and bosses? I loved King Mutoh's Temple and the Temple of Courage, and how the bosses in those two include the use of ds' split screen. Also ghost ship part? I loved that we got the opportunity to go on it!! ONE LAST THING the Temple of the Ocean King gets unnecessary hate! I think the idea of going back to a Temple is very clever, not only that, but the Temple itself is very fun and has the potential of being challenging (I've cleared the Temple without using any time) - and BELLUM!! one of the most interesting and fun Zelda bosses in my opinion

AND lastly!! The CHARACTERS!! I love Ciela, Linebeck, Tetra, and Oshus. Honestly I could go on with Linebeck alone. First he's a prideful, cowardly jerk who you sorta grow to love anyway, and THEN he genuinely starts to care about Link rather than himself, even when he's afraid. I just love him sm (also his theme is one of the best themes I've ever heard for a Zelda companion)

So!! Skyward Sword! Holy crap!! First off?! The story is so good?! Like the only reason Link goes on a journey, the PRIMARY reason is bc he wants to rescue Zelda, his childhood friend. So. Pure. Yeah, call it linear, but it what it does, it does REALLY WELL.

Anyway the ART of this game?! The watercolor aesthetic?! YES PLEASE. This world feels so soft and nice. The scenery is beautiful!! And the TEMPLE DESIGN is so brilliant. Not only are the puzzles great, but the aesthetics are mm!! Like the Ancient Cistern? The Sand ship? The Skyview Temple? I love.

Also let me gush a little about the characters. I need to show some respect to my guy Groose. He goes through such an amazing arc, from being a bully to someone who's found a purpose and has become accepting and kind? We stan this himbo. Also Ghirahim may be the most INTERESTING rival to Link. He's super weird fabulous and he definitely leaves an impression. Even his arc from being a conceited adversary to a rage-filled and desperate is really great.

Oh oh oh and one last thing!! The ENTIRETY OF THE SKYWARD SWORD OST IS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING

OK full offense. Getting tired of all these redemption arc posts that just boil down to “Zuko’s is the only good redemption arc, only one that exists, can’t believe redemption arcs didn’t exist before atla.” Don’t get me wrong- Zuko had a great arc and is still my fav atla character he was my first fictional crush too don’t @ me. I loved him sm.

But I can’t take any of those posts too seriously because all it does is tell me that the op and people (only) screaming “zuko” in the notes haven’t really seen or read anything besides atla and star wars. Like?

Prince Vegeta predates Zuko by like, 30+ years. Like, Zuko’s season 1 “crimes” weren’t even that bad compared to Vegeta’s and many others. Vegeta blew up multiple planets for fun and viciously beat up a toddler (I clearly remember Gohan being like, 5?? when they first fought). Vegeta’s arc was long, like painfully so, and he made self-sabotaging selfish mistakes along the way. And yet people still bought his redemption in the end.

I brought up Vegeta first because after Zuko, at least some people remember him. But who is the internet really sleeping on? PICCOLO.

Piccolo (junior) also wanted to kill a bunch of people and enslave the world when we first met him. And he kidnapped a child after killing the child’s father (it’s understandable in context but that’s what happened lmao). Then he died saving the child. Which is what certain posts say make a bad redemption arc. Except, you know what? Piccolo’s arc was much more powerful than Vegeta’s imo and even if he didn’t come back to life after this, it would have been just as compelling. It had the right motivation, the right emotion, the right timing- in fact, it was so good that nobody even remembers it, we just see Piccolo as a good guy by default with unquestionable morals.

Oh, and you know who else should go on the list of redeemed princes? Moses from The Prince of Egypt. Definitely never been a villain, but still another prince that had to go through intense soul searching BEFORE Zuko.

This post got long but whatever, if you stacked every “there has only been 1 (one) successful redemption arc in existence” post together, it’d be even longer. But just to throw it out there too, a redemption “scene” is actually possible too. Gaston Leroux did it in 1911 and Andrew Lloyd Webber used that same scene in the 1980s.

The phantom of the opera’s redemption scene follows beat by beat what an arc also has:

Villain realizes error of his ways: sees negative impact of his actions on others, rather than himself

Villain tries to undo damage for the sake of others, rather than himself

Villain lives with consequences (and dies, but still had time to digest consequences)

And it was satisfying. If nothing else, everyone believed the change of heart was real. You actually can make your redemption moment an actual moment instead of 3 seasons of a show. You just have to make sure everything leading up to it makes sense.

Because of how long it is and how very excited you all have been waiting for this we have decided to post it into 2 parts to keep the excitement going. → Two people could dress up as ghosts.

10. “He can be my jailer” – Cop and Robber costume, could do the orange jumpsuit from the LWYMMD video and copy the “guards” around the birdcages outfits.

→ Could dress as a referee/sport player/some sort of sport reference

I DID SOMETHING BAD:

1. “I play ‘em like a violin” – Make a poster cut out into the same of a violin and wear music notes.

2. ‘Now all he thinks about is me” – Poster saying “Now all I think about is Taylor”

3. “I can feel the flames on my skin” – Body paint flames in your arms/legs or wear flame pattern shirt.

4. “Crimson red paint on my lips” – Could be similar to the one above from End Game with red lips all over your outfit or a poster.

5. “If a man talk shit, then I owe him nothing” – Great lyric for a poster! Don’t want to put the swear on the poster? Get creative and maybe use the emoji covering its mouth or symbols!

6. “I never trust a playboy, but they love me” – Going with a guy friend? Could have him dress like Hugh Hefner but of course remember the necessary clothing needed to get into a venue if you do this! Could also dress as a bunny (playboy related or just average you decide)

8. “They’re burning all the witches even if you aren’t one” – Dress as a witch, could be inspired from the Salem witch trials, could be a cartoon-y Halloween one, or one from your favorite show or movie that involves witches!

10. “All eyes on us/All eyes on you/All eyes on me” - Staring eye emoji drawn on a poster with a thought bubble above it with one of these 3 lyrics in the bubble.

→ One person dresses up as a cloudy/rainy day so all grey clothes and have reflective blue tape cut into rain drops and white reflective tape to represent clouds (typically clouds are grey/black when it’s raining but those two colors won’t be reflective, could use glow in the dark paint/tape as well). Could also wear a cloud poster with raindrops hanging from it on string around them or hold as a regular poster with these lyrics in the cloud.

→ Second person dresses up as sunny day, in preferably light blue to represent a clear sky, yellow reflective tape cut out as suns on the outfit—could even have some breaking through clouds using white reflective tape. Person could also wear a sun poster around them like suggested above for the grey day look.

12. “Wear you like a necklace” – Think flavor flav! Make a giant fake watch (or not a watch and just a necklace) out of string and cardboard. Have the reputation album cover or cd artwork be hanging from it/as the face of the watch.

13. “Dressed in black now” – Wear all black! Draw attention to yourself with some glow in the dark paint or stickers, glow sticks and glitter.

14. “Scratches down your back” – Might not be appropriate with what its referencing for younger crowds and you may get looks from parents but create a shirt with bloody scratches down the backside and let the front side have “so it goes…” written on it.

15. “You did a number on me” – Few options:

→ Poster cut out into a 13/22/1989 with the lyric written throughout the 13/22/1989.

→ Poster with an array of numbers related to Taylor filling it (13, 22, 1989, 10(Grammys), etc.). Write the lyrics in rep font first and draw the numbers around it, filling the background. Write in glow in the dark paint/tape, glue flowers over the lyrics, whatever you desire! Can even just use the word rep instead of doing the lyrics.

Trading Hearts (Part 1)

Summary: It's been months since Akira won his freedom and saved the world. Now, back in his home town, separated from his friends and girlfriend, Futaba, Akira finds that the place he grew up doesn't necessarily feel like home anymore. Back in Tokyo, Futaba starts to piece together that Akira isn't exactly happy with his change in scenery. She resolves to do what she can for the man who changed her life, whether he is aware of this endeavor or not.

Sometimes Futaba wondered why she or Kana-chan ever wanted to go back to the eternal prison of damnation and lack of intelligent thought that was high school. It was a societal norm that functioning members of society attended high school before acquiring more practical real life paths to take, but the longer she spent here, the more she was convinced that this was merely slow method of torture than a useful method of learning anything.

She'd seen much weirder things to be certain.

Suffice to say, Futaba was bored. Starting high school had seemed like a tremendous first step towards getting herself to be normal again. Sure, she'd be a grade behind, but at least she had a path to start moving down. It was almost laughable that she was managing to sit in a classroom full of students, after taking a crowded train to get here, and wasn't freaking out at all. A year ago, leaving her room was an impossibility. Now, she felt the smallest tinges of panic when people pressed on her too hard on the train, got a bit sweaty when strangers talked to her for too long, but neither feeling was enough to derail her day. She felt like a real life person most of the time now and it was all because of...

She couldn't help but grin to herself. One of her biggest worries starting this year had been that despite the massive amounts of support she knew she could get from the other members of the now disbanded Phantom Thieves, Akira Kurusu had moved back to Kyoto to finish out high school in his hometown. She would always credit her revival from the corpse of her previous self as a victory for the entire group, but it was truly Akira who had stayed with her every step of the way. His warm presence by her side made pushing herself out of her comfort zone not only less scary, but infinitely more rewarding. They'd spent countless hours cultivating their bond both between one another and with Sojiro. Sojiro, Akira and Morgana were her family. And the Phantom Thieves were the perfect extension to that family. She would have been more than content to stay in that perfect bubble of happiness forever.

Alas, after saving the world multiple times and nearly dying for the sake of doing so, Akira had finally been granted the freedom he so deserved and was finally free to resume the life that had been stolen from him by Shido. Futaba had been gutted to know Akira would be leaving, but no matter how much she wanted him to herself, she knew he deserved the chance to try to put his "normal" back together, the same way she was trying to fix her "normal".

Still, it sucked pretty bad to have to start one of the potentially scariest steps in her life without her combo best friend and boyfriend there to cheer her on.

As soon as concrete plans had been made with regards to Akira returning to Kyoto, Akira had insisted that if they intended to keep dating, they had to tell Sojiro. Futaba had suspected that perhaps her loving boyfriend had developed a death wish, but agreed anyway. She had envisioned having this conversation with her adoptive father many times, and each had ended in some sort of disaster.

Thus, she had been thoroughly shocked when Sojiro's reaction was to sigh and grumble "I don't like the idea of Futaba dating in general, but if it has to be anyone, I guess I couldn't have picked someone better." They had hashed out rules concerning their alone time and curfews while Akira was still in town, but Sojiro made it very clear that Akira was still a treasured part of their family and was still welcome at LeBlanc if he was ever in town. Needless to say, there was hardly a dry eye in the room.

So they had kept dating. The concern that they'd drift apart was a valid one, but luckily both of them were good about keeping up with Skype dates and keeping in contact via text and phone calls. High school had been going better than expected, the old Phantom Thieves group was still super close, having dinner at LeBlanc every Sunday, and her relationship with Akira still felt just as fun and relaxing as ever. All in all, Futaba really couldn't complain about her current life situation.

It hadn't seemed like such a big deal at first. She wasn't even really sure there was an issue in the beginning. But the more they talked, the more she started to realize that Akira did not want to talk about himself, at all. She could go on and on for days about every little detail of her own life, down to even absolutely insignificant things like that one time Sojiro bought almond milk, and Akira would always stay attentive. But anytime she directed these questions back at him, asking about his school or town or even what he did with his free time anymore, she was met with vague answers and then a swift redirection of conversation back to herself.

Fueled by the intrinsic desire to be connected to Akira's life in a more reciprocal fashion, Futaba began her newest mission: decode the life of Akira.

Futaba sighed. This was going to be slightly harder than she had originally anticipated. That was fine though. She'd grab some intel from the friend group and then prepare her counterattack.

"Hey, Ryuji. How often do you and Akira talk?"

Ryuji paused in his desperate destruction of what might have been a sandwich at one point, chewed thoughtfully, then spat "rrvydy, hy?"

Ann scrunched up her nose in distaste, scooting away from the boy in mock offense. "Eww. Stop. Please be like a normal human being for like ten seconds?"

Ryuji gulped loudly, smacking his lips, "Whatever floats your boat, Ms. Princess." He received a warning glare. "Fine, fine. Anyway, yeah, we talk on and off basically every day, why?"

Futaba fidgeted a bit, playing with the leftover rice from the curry Sojiro sent with her to school for lunch today. "I don't know. Anything seem off about him to you?"

This got Ann's attention. "Off, how Futaba?"

Futaba shook her head a bit, "it may be nothing, but it feels like he's avoiding talking to me about his own life right now? And I was wondering if you guys noticed it too."

"Oh man, I think I know what you mean!" Ryuji exclaimed, gesticulating wildly with filthy hands. "Once, I asked him if Kyoto had any good arcades. And he sent me a Google search instead of telling me about it himself. Like, what?"

Ann nodded, "I've never noticed it myself, but it doesn't seem completely out of his character. I mean, he never really wanted to talk about himself, even when he was here."

Futaba considered this for a moment. "He definitely would talk about himself to me, maybe not...full life story all the time, but he would tell me who he had been hanging out with and what he'd been up to. Now I can't even get that out of him. I'm wondering if something isn't wrong..."

Ryuji scoffed, "Naw man, ya know, I bet he's just trying to not make us miss him too much. I know I'd feel like shit if he was constantly going on and on about how much better his home is than here."

"Why?" Futaba asked, a bit upset by Ryuji's response, though glad he'd be that honest. "He has to stay there for a year. Don't you want him to enjoy that year? If he wants his life to go back to normal, I want him to succeed in that quest, ya know? I mean, he's done so much for us. Doesn't he at least deserve that...?"

Ryuji leaned back, slightly surprised. "Alright, alright, calm down Futaba. Geez. Didn't you know you were Akira's number one defender..."

Futaba blushed. While both Sojiro and Morgana knew of her and Akira's relationship, they had not told the rest of the group as of yet. She often wished she could, but they had agreed that they wanted to see how things went before getting the group all excited about this. After all, it would seriously suck if they told everyone then broke up...

A comforting hand settled on her shoulder. "I agree, Futaba," Ann smiled, "Knowing Akira he probably wouldn't wanna risk burdening us too much whether it be with good or bad information. And honestly, it could just be that he has nothing to say. After all, life now compared to life 6 months ago is really boring."

Futaba nodded, sulking. She didn't care if he was having the best time ever in Kyoto or had nothing to talk about except the A tier naps he and Morgana had been taking. She just wanted to be able to share whatever their mutual lives were like equally since they couldn't be together living the same life anymore.

Ann sighed, then offered, "let's shoot a private message to Makoto. She was talking about bothering him about his college plans awhile back. Maybe she'll have an opinion for you."

Futaba glanced up at Ann, and smiled, thankful for such understanding friends. "That sounds awesome, thanks."

With that, the first warning bell signaled that lunch was basically over. Hopefully, Makoto would answer before she Skyped Akira tonight.

She had luckily managed to snag a seat on the train ride home and was settling in to read a book when her phone chimed. It was Makoto. Futaba praised the God that blessed their friend group with such a capable and efficient Mom Friend.

Actually, they may have killed that God....hmm...

Hey, Futaba. In reference to what Ann asked me about, I have noticed that Akira is acting a bit strange. I did end up talking to him about college entrance exams and apparently he isn't currently planning to take any. He wouldn't give me a complete answer but what I pieces together is that the issue is a combination of not being in the right college prep classes at school, the school staff not taking his desire to go to college seriously, and his father not believing he could pass the exams and thus not wanting to pay for them. Now, keep in mind, he told me very little of this flat out, but from our conversation this was what I could draw conclusions about. Hope that helps.

Futaba's jaw fell open a bit. So, Akira was having troubles and not speaking to her about them. Again. Damnit. She shot a message back to Makoto quickly, needing to process this information before her conversation with Akira.

Thank you so much for the info Makoto. God, he hasn't told me any of this. Not even a little bit of it. It's just like the prison thing...why does he do this?

Luckily, it seemed Makoto was still attached to her phone for the moment.

It's likely a complex answer. I'm sure he thinks sharing this sort of information with us would bother us because we would try to fix it. Sadly, he's right. We will try to fix it. And he should probably just get used to that fact and let it happen.

That made her laugh. Their little group was quite infamous for being overly close and overly protective. Just because Akira was used to doing the protecting didn't mean he was exempt from the protection.

To: Dream Queen

I want to talk to him about this. See if there's anything we can do to help. But I don't want him to deflect me. Any ideas, Ms Prosecutor-Lite?

Let's not call me that. In general, direct questions are more likely to get useable information. If he can purposefully side step a meaning of a question, he seems to do so.

She figured as much. Formulating the right questions might be hard though. She didn't want him to think the decision not to go to college was what she was upset with, so lingering on that topic might not help. Truthfully, she just wanted to know if he was happy and if not, why.

Huh. That might be a good one.

Her phone chimed again.

But being frank, Futaba, I don't think you're going to get straight answers with a screen in between you. Skype may be slightly more effective but Akira is a face to face kind of person. We may not be able to address this until break. And that's perhaps a long shot if he doesn't plan to come to Tokyo for break.

The thought stuck in her head for a moment. Face to face. Midterms were this upcoming week. After Thursday, she wouldn't have class again until Tuesday. Hmmm...now if only...

No, but shouldn't Boss? He did have mailed correspondence with Akira's family a bit over the last year.

The train announced that her stop was next and she hopped up, energized and ready to move the plan forward.

She surveyed her desk space to ensure she had everything she needed. Drink? Check. Bag of chips just in case? Check. Blanket draped over her desk chair? Check. Computer open to Skype? Check. List of questions conveniently out of sight? Check.

She was a bit hesitant to write up the list of questions. Futaba knew there was no way in hell she could link all those questions together coherently without sounding scripted. That was Makoto's thing. But still, Akira was by far the superior conversationalist. She needed some sort of backup if this went south.

She tried to remind herself that this wasn't about only getting answers. Their Skype dates were sacred. It was the closest they got to each other on a regular basis. She needed to find a natural work in for that line of conversation or needed to drop it all together. And besides, she consoled herself, plan B could still work out without this conversation being... productive. No pressure.

She was so screwed.

The sound of Skype's ring tone started up then, and she jumped a bit. She ran her fingers through her hair, pausing to take one huge breath before hitting "answer".

"Hey, Akira."

Her screen slowly resolved into what was becoming a pretty familiar backdrop. The walls were painted a medium shade of blue. All along the back wall, were countless posters. Rock bands, video games, movies, you name it. She fondly remembered their first Skype date, where he explained where he got every single one of those posters. That was the most he had spoken to her about his past since he told her how he got arrested...

The bed was messy, plaid blue comforter thrown across the bed in a half assed attempt at making the bed. She knew for a fact the thin black sheets underneath were bundled up the same as when he first woke up. The only thing in the room messier than the bed was the mop of hair in her line of sight.

"You, my friend, need a haircut," Futaba giggled, earning herself an overly dramatic eye roll and a huff in response. She actually was a fan of the extremely puffy hair, but knew it was getting long enough that his bangs would be hanging in his eyes, which annoyed him greatly.

The lights in his room were off, the only light source being the blueish light from his laptop screen. Futaba didn't try to keep it a secret how much she liked the way his face looked illuminated so minimally like this. The angle of the light showed off features she hadn't paid attention to when they were physically together. Now, she couldn't stop staring at the well defined jawline, sharp cut of his nose, the way his bottom lip was a bit fuller than his top. Maybe there was some truth to the phrase "distance makes the heart grow fonder".

"What's up, hot stuff? You look a bit down."

Akira met her eyes, the ghost of a smile on his face. "I guess I'm kind of tired. Haven't been sleeping well lately."

This was good. Getting right into it. "Aww. How come?"

He paused, staring at something to the left of his screen. For a moment it looked like he was gearing up to say something, but then he simply shook his head. "I don't know. Happens sometimes."

The bags under his eyes told her that it wasn't as simple as a couple bad nights. Still, she knew he probably wouldn't give her an answer on this particular vein of thought just yet, so she moved on. "Speaking of sleep, where is the sleepiest cat in the history of history?"

That got Akira to smile. "My dad got him some catnip at the store the other day. Before I opened it, he swore over and over it wouldn't work on him because he is a human."

Futaba giggled, "let me guess: he went crazier than when he saw particularly nice looking treasures in the metaverse?"

The smile broadened into a smirk. "Babbled nonsense and ran around the house after 'ghosts' all night. It was a true sight to behold. That said: he denies the whole thing now."

"Not surprising. News headline: local cat does cat-like thing. Is disgusted."

Akira chortled, "Very accurate!"

They chatted back and forth for about half an hour about various things, mostly superficial. Still, it served its purpose as a recharge from all the social exhaustion of the week. She was content. But, she did want to ask him one thing.

"Hey, Akira...real quick before we hang up..."

Akira smiled at her, nodded, "What's up?"

"You've been in Kyoto for awhile now. And I guess I just wanted to know..." She paused, looking him straight in the eye, "are you happy?"

Lightning quick, his smile dropped away. For a bit, Akira's eyes darted between the screen, his hands, and the space just to the left side of his computer screen. This sort of frantic defense mechanism was new to Futaba. To her memory, she had never seen Akira cornered before. It only proved that this was a question she needed to have answered...but, an equal need to soothe him also sprung up.

It was a long pause before Akira finally plopped his head down onto his crossed arms and sighed. When he next revealed his face, it was with a soft, "I guess not."

Futaba's heart broke at the despair in his tone. Her voice was just as soft, "Is being back home not what you thought it would be?"

Akira shook his head. He didn't meet her eyes. "No, it's exactly how I thought it would be." He buried his face in his arms, fingers tapping out a rhythm on the desk. His next words were muffled so he couldn't make them out super well, but Futaba was absolutely positive she heard him mutter "It's me that's different now."

That was all she really needed to hear. "We don't have to talk about it anymore if you don't want to."

He removed his head from it's hiding spot and attempted a smile. "Thanks." The sound of a door opening in the background echoed through his room. He sighed and sat up. "I have to go."

Futaba's heart sank. She hated herself for saving this for last. Leaving conversations on a bad note was the absolute worst and yet...Well, she'd just have to make up for it.

"Ok. I love you."

Akira nodded, "Love you too." She smiled and reached for her mouse to cut the call, when he started, "Futaba?" She made a noise acknowledging him. "I miss you."

God, this kid really knew how to play her heart like a guitar. She smiled widely at him. "I miss you too, Akira. Good night!"

"Night."

The call ended, leaving her alone in her room with her thoughts. Akira had always been there for her when she was going through something awful. Even forced his way into helping her even when she said she didn't want his help. There was no way she was letting this go. She nodded to herself and started writing a message to Makoto.

Failure wasn't an option.

LeBlanc was deserted when Futaba got home from school that Friday. Sojiro was busy cooking, humming contently along with the radio. Considering what Futaba's goal was this evening, it was probably for the best that he was in a good mood to start.

"Hey Sojiro! I'm home. Need any help?"

Her father turned and raised an eyebrow, giving her a once over glance before nodding and beckoning her forth to help with dinner. Futaba winced to herself, realizing her huge tactical error. She never offers to help with dinner. Alas, the hint that she wanted something from him is perhaps better than springing it on him with no prior suspicion at all. She hurried to put on an apron and slice up the apples he placed before her.

They worked in companionable silence. And once the curry was done to perfection, they both sat down at a booth to enjoy their meal. The air was thick, pregnant with the anticipation of important conversation. Futaba hated this sort of unease, as it was exactly what she feared would occur. And she hadn't even said anything yet.

"So. You want to ask me something, Futaba?"

No surprises there. Futaba nodded, "Um. Yes. I. I do." God, this was harder than she thought. The words were there, right in her head, so why couldn't she get them out? It's just Sojiro! But that was the issue. It was Sojiro, the only father figure she'd ever really had. She could handle a lot of people rejecting her, but Sojiro was not among them.

He seemed to sense her rising panic, smiled at her gently, "Whatever it is, it's nothing to worry too hard over. If you're willing to talk, I'm willing to listen."

"Yeah I know." She took a deep breath, summoned her inner strength (whatever there was of it) and began, "I was talking with Akira earlier. He's...um, not feeling very well, I don't think. I don't know exactly what the problem is, but I really want to help him. He's done so much for me after all."

Sojiro nodded, showing he had heard her. She continued, "I've tried just talking to him about it, but he doesn't give me or any of our friends straight answers. And now he isn't sleeping well. I'm just really worried."

"And what exactly do you expect to do about this?" Sojiro questioned, luckily not looking mad at all. "You can't just force him to ask for help if he doesn't want it. Trust me. I've tried."

"Yeah," Futaba acknowledged glumly, "I doubt he will ever tell anyone what's really wrong over the phone. It's too easy for him to hide behind the screen and pretend he's protecting us. So...I want to go talk to him. In person."

Sojiro stopped eating. Placed his fork down and the folded his hands in front of him. Futaba gulped. "Who would be going with you, then?"

"No one. I don't think he would want to say anything if too many people came."

He sighed and shook his head a bit, sparking panic in Futaba instantly. "He'd probably talk to you and one other person, right? Why not that Makoto girl?"

"I...I already talked to her about it. She. Um. She said she can't take the time off and that he would probably not talk to someone who isn't me or her so it probably has to be just me."

"And I'm supposed to ignore the fact that my sixteen year old daughter with crippling social anxiety wants to travel over five hours to Kyoto by herself to see her boyfriend? On a whim because he seems upset? You're out of your mind."

Futaba's voice grew shaky, "The train there wouldn't be anywhere as crowded as the one I take to school! So what if it's more time, I'd be fine! And it is not just a whim."

Sojiro shook his head, glaring at her through with crossed arms. God she hated that look. "I don't think you realize how dangerous this could be for a young girl by herself. And what would you do when you got there? Talk really quickly and come back home? 11 hours of transit just for a conversation?"

"School will be off for awhile after midterms, Sojiro. I can probably just stay on their couch or something."

"Oh here we go. Probably isn't good enough when planning a trip like this, Futaba. You can't just show up at people's houses and expect them to let you stay with them. Are you insane?"

Tears jerked to her eyes. "N-no, I'm not! I was going to call Akira's dad a-after you and I talked and ask him. Why do you assume I don't think about things? You know I do!" The last thing Futaba had wanted was to cry, but sure enough the tears came rolling down her cheeks in rivers. Her nose was suddenly all stuffed too. Damnit.

"Do you even have his father's number? Their address?"

"Y-you do, Sojiro! I w-w-wasnt gonna go...go behind your b-back and ask when I already made all the arrangements! You h-hate it when people try to do that! And I know you d-do!"

"Yeah and I also hate it when you hatch schemes in private and then just expect other people to go along with them." Sojiro sighed, pressing his thumbs to his closed eyes. "Why does it have to be you who does this? Is this even necessary? You don't even know if something is actually wrong, Futaba."

"Yes. I. Do. You weren't talking to him, Sojiro. You didn't see how sad he looked. No, he doesn't absolutely need someone to go, but I want to now before it gets any worse." She paused to sniffle and wipe at her eyes, feeling a bit less frantic. "And would you please stop thinking about him as 'Futaba's boyfriend' and just think of him as Akira? Just because he is dating me doesn't make him any less a part of our family! Right? Right?? You were the one that said that! Well our family member is far away and something is wrong."

Sojiro was quiet then. He sat with his arms crossed over his chest and a deep frown for awhile while Futaba sniffled and dabbed at her eyes with her napkin. Her entire body was tense and felt gross, typical after crying. Still, it was a small price to pay if she could convince Sojiro. She had to at least try.

"Go home."

Her eyes shot up to meet her father's. "What?"

Sojiro leveled her with a stern stare. "It's getting late and you need to get a bath and get ready for bed. You have school tomorrow."

"B-but Sojiro...!"

"Enough. Futaba." Sojiro stood, collecting their plates and moving towards the sink. "No point discussing this any more tonight. You go calm down and get to bed. If there is anything left to discuss, we will talk about it after school tomorrow."

"Sojiro..."

"I haven't said no yet, have I?" Sojiro looked back at her with a soft look on his face. He hated it when she cried just as much as she hated crying. "Now get out of here so I can think, ok?"

The walk home was one of the most nerve wracking of her life. There was a snowball's chance in hell of her sleeping tonight, since her emotions felt like live wires all tangled together. But the less she fought him, the more likely he'd agree. That was all she could hope for at this point.

School on Saturday was the longest and worst experience of her life. She was bone tired from not sleeping even an hour the night before and somehow all the teachers seemed to know this because they kept asking her just about every single question they could. It was unbearable. She had zoned out through all of lunch too, far too tired to even register being hungry, so as she boarded the train to go home, she felt like she had had all of her stats lowered and inflicted with despair, dizzy and hunger all at the same time.

Her phone buzzed in her bag as she managed to snag a seat on the train (the only small miracle of the day).

From: Key Item

Hey. Ryuji and Ann both texted me and said you looked really out of it today. Everything alright?

Great. Now she had even managed to spread her bad day to Akira. Wonderful.

To: Key Item

Bad night. Didn't sleep. I'll go to bed early tonight, though.

From: Key Item

Alright. If you're sure. Get home safe. Get Sojiro to make you some curry with extra love in it!

To: Key Item

If his love is anything like yours, I'd prefer he keep the love to a minimum.

From: Key Item

Ouch. That hurt. Such betrayal.

She giggled, glad that even when she felt like death, talking to Akira could still make her smile.

Arriving at LeBlanc felt like a death march. There were five customers enjoying curry and coffee at the various booths, so Futaba place her bag down at the bar. Before she could sit down, Sojiro slid a pad of paper across the bar to her. She met his eyes first, then looked down at the paper. It contained a phone number and an address. Her heart sped up and she looked back at Sojiro, mouth wide open.

"You'd best try calling now. I could usually get ahold of his dad around this time. Go on."

Futaba grinned, kissed Sojiro on the cheek and then fled upstairs to call the number. Maybe things were going to work out after all.

p5 thoughts

After having drawn so much fanart of p5 (most of it being Yusuke) before the game even came out, even with my hype when I started playing on the release date, I only FINALLY finished persona 5 OTL

Below will be my mini-review and thoughts on the game?? spoilers are gonna here on the entire game

Total playtime - 87 hours 40 minutes

OK this is gonna be disorganized mess but i will try to be .. not messy Story: The story unfortunately was very weak :( Like the game had an AMAZING start and it was tackling really important issues. I really started to care about Ryuji and Ann and their goals. Then Yusuke joins and I thought the game was just heading in perfect direction. Then I felt off during Kaneshiro’s arc as Makoto did not really feel .. really into the whole PT thing?? sorry Makoto fans i love her but she felt rly overrated... anyway Futaba’s arc no doubt was my favorite but then the game really started falling apart. like lets not talk about the whole series of events that were Morgana leaving the team that was straight up BAD. the pacing picked up a bit for the Casino dungeon and it was really intense then its Shido and thing kinda... fell back into this weird pacing ... Ah yes, let’s just wait 20 days to see if Shido has a change of heart or we die. After that the pacing was still all over the place then the huge plottwist happens. I knew about it but still liked it! The last arc had on point emotions and feels so it felt like a good ending to the game. SEVERE PACING ISSUES KILL THE GAME FOR ME THOUGH. I get that they still wanted the calendar system but honestly i dont think it worked any huge favors for the game . .. anyway yeah the game started amazing then dropped close to death then picked up again but not as good as the beginning Characters: I have not managed to finish a lot of confidants so near the end the parts where confidants help out it was .. very lacking lol .. . if that part wasnt so depended on the confidants that you have finished.... But overall the characters were good. Pacing of the story and the story itself did not do any justice to them I think and it feels bad bc everyone had so much potential but having a big cast it was obvious that not everyone was getting the attention they deserved Ryuji - good bro and I loved him but the middle part of the game and the constant “we gotta get the girls!” moments were so . . ugh ... confidant rank and beginning of game ryuji was absolute best though Ann - same goes for her as with ryuji that the beginning of the game was best characterization moment for her. I liked her a lot and she’s pretty bro for female heroine! but the constant fanservice kills me guys Morgana - boy did i dislike morgana for the most of the game. he really felt like teddie 2.0 at times and i just did not have a lot motivation to like him. Last arc of the game tho?? i love morgana??? i wanna cry tbh those parts near the end really resonated with me so my final verdict is that i like morgana a lot now Yusuke - I LOVE THIS BOY. while i get the beef that people have with his recruitment arc (the whole nude modeling thing) I thought it was ok since my interpretation is that he was just pissed and really needed that inspiration he found in ann but idk. otherwise his arc was good but goddamn fuck you atlus for continuously treating him like a weirdo?? PT is supposed to be a gang of misfits and yet even the teammates keep treating him like a weirdo. . that was just really bad like come on let me kiss yusuke and feed him. also will never forgive atlus for not letting yusuke move into leblanc. He’s a very good character and very level-headed so i love him sm. he has really great moments Makoto - I liked her a lot! i do think she’s a bit overrated and that she doesn’t fit well with PT but I think that’s just the issue with Atlus pacing of the story, because her issues during her recruitment were really good (as in i did feel like she would fit into PT well) Futaba - I LOVE THIS GIRL!! I played with jpn dub which I think does much better justice to her characterization. Her entire arc was so so good and I felt like she was a really solid character going through growth. her confidant was very very good. She has a lot of funny moments and I love her antics with Yusuke. they are the blessed characters of this game. too good for this game. Haru - love her too!!!! she was so nice and sweet but damn atlus did not do her justice at all. she is the “last” party member to join and it is so sad she does not get a lof interaction with PT. like I wish PT interacted with her somehow throughout the game before she joins, be it like help her out sometimes or something bc they go to same school so when she joins later the team dynamic can easily accept her. Goro - we dont talk about goro jk but honestly he was handled bad. his link was automatic and I get why but his initial personality just makes me hate him a lot. he was cool as a party member but not for long. I expect him to appear in spinoffs bc wtf was that ending for him goddamn atlus. i like a lot his potential as a character but everything else? hate Sae was for me quite funny during the interrogation (when you start the confidant parts) but after her casino her involvement in the story I really ended up liking Sae. she’s good Also gonna mention Sojiro bc i love that coffee dad. His dynamic with Futaba and protagonist was extremely good!!! such a solid family. I loved that he finds out the truth and how he handled it. love u sojiro Speaking of protagonist, I really really really wish atlus would ease up on the “silent protagonist” a bit more. for a game as huge as this, the silence does not do justice to the protagonist. idk i just wish there would have been a bit more voice to him and solid characterization other than some off-hand comments that imply the underlying personality. i get the whole “self-insert” part but it sucks stop putting it in games Overall character summary: pacing sucked so characterization suffered a lot. a lot of characters don’t get their time to shine and while I love them a lot it really sucks to see how they were treated. Pacing ruined a lot of things including team dynamic. Palaces: (in chronological order) Kamoshida/Castle - IT SUCKED I HATE IT. being the first freaking dungeon it sure was extremely hard and damn long. also not knowing about the calling car system really hurt lmao. i just hate this dungeon and i got stuck there a lot too Madarame/Art Museum - THE BEST ONE! Honestly I think it is the only palace that really did feel like a heist! It is a very beautiful palace and im probably also biased bc its Yusuke’s arc but this palace was legit fun to get through. Kaneshiro/Bank - it was ok, good music. i don’t really feel much for it and I was just mostly annoyed how long the vault part was. Futaba/Pyramid - I loved it a lot too! 10/10 music I had a lot of annoyances with coffin shadows and the puzzles for a bit but overall the music and aesthetics really made the palace work well with the story Okumura/Spaceship - we don’t talk about the “lunch break” parts.... overall it was ok and I liked its aesthetic. also the implications about the workers there was good sad material. Sae/Casino - 10/10 music. overall i disliked it a lot bc some of the parts really dragged and I hated gambling in there to progress. Shido/Ship - 10/10 music. overall i liked it / it was ok. the mouse mechanic was a bit fun, the last part being ... 3 boss fights in a row without saving was sure something. 10/10 creepy outside aesthetic of sunken city. Mementos Depths - not to be confused w/ p3/4 style dungeon we know as mementos (which were pretty much mindless fun to progress thru), the depths was ... so good. mostly for the creepy aesthetic 10/10 would suffer again. the music track Freedom and Security, that plays during goro’s bad end credits, plays as the theme for this dungeon and jeez did it make me feel so emo. the parts where you can talk to locked up people who are apathetic to the world just gave me depression and i loved it.. . i didnt really like the later part of it (when tokyo merges with mementos) To rank the palaces overall its: Art museum > Mementos Depths > Pyramid >> Ruse Cruise > Spaceship > Casino > Bank >>>>>> Castle Gameplay mechanics were very solid and fun. Movement a bit could be clunky (or that’s what i felt like) and stealth mechanic in dungeons was ok. The gameplay has A LOT of attention to detail and i appreciated it a lot. UI was cluttered but it worked and was quite Aesthetic. I think the game would have benefited if the stats weren’t so important to the social aspect or if the calendar system was revamped. Final boss imo was not as bad as P4 but still ... sucked. P3′s final boss fight is still ultimately my favorite. P5 comes close but once again, pacing issues. Protagonist summoning freaking Satanael was cool af though. Honestly my big issue with P5 was the PACING that made the story and characters suck a lot of times but overall the game was extremely solid and memorable. Of the persona entries i played i think P5 is special so I can’t really rank it. I am really attached to the game despite its heavy flaws that kill me. P3 and P2 are still quite my favorites but P5 is like really close to them so I guess it’s a fave too i love those phantom thieves
