I finally got around to building my birthday present to myself. :D

A very nice build. Very simple, but looking great. There were a couple of parts I wondered at, but all in all this is really an excellent kit. Definitely not a Gundam, and taking full advantage of it for the range in motions.

It's weird. I never liked the Leo much in the series. Those fat thighs always turn me off. It's the same reason I dislike the Tallgeese design, even though I seem to be the only one.

But now that I've built the little fella, he has really started growing on me. Posed right and with all proportions correct, he does look cool.

Jake doesn't know this, and he thinks he's finally gotten a great assignment and it's his turn to be a hero. Little does he know the second Amir lays eyes on him, he's smitten - and dangerously so. Cue him starting fires as often as possible to try and get Jake on call so he can "rescue" him and get to know more about him.

thinking back on when i finished shb & it took me like a whole week to be able to put into words how i felt abt emet & i wasnt able to think about literally anything else in that time. man. this shit is crazy. & then i wrote a long ass fucking essay on hildegarde's feelings throughout the expansion. man. ohhhh man. i need to replay it lest i become ungovernable

OK here it is, a ton of 'production' stuff for the Hot Guy Comic Zine! I've never been part of a project like this. Even though I was working on my comic mostly solo (shout-out to my editor Violet!), the world-building and story arc planning was completely collaborative. For example:

We started out on the world-building by voting on character's superpowers! Plenty of powers were almost unanimously agreed on, but Cuteguy was a HUGE campaign. We were pretty much 50/50 split between can fly/can't fly. Propaganda was exchanged LOL, like this piece where I campaigned for limited flying capabilities 😂 And thats what we ended up settling on!

From there we worked on a ton of brainstorming/world-building that I mostly spectated with an occasional doodle like these haha. I'm new to such elaborate AUs!

Pitch time!! I had pitches for each era and they were all pretty light and banter-y, so my year 1 pitch ended up fitting the vibe the best. My original pitch was 'HG + CG learn some key things about each other and plan to set up a base they can use together.' But when I started my script, I got really caught up in how they were navigating a partnership without knowing each others identities. The more I wrote through that, the more I wanted my story to be ABOUT that! So thats where my script started coming together.

Designs! I'm definitely not a confident costume designer. I was trying to go for low-tech + practical since it was early in their careers, and of course, easy to draw 😂

Process went more or less like this! Full color comics take a LONG TIME but it was a total labor of love. I had the graffiti bgs in mind from the very start since I knew it was dialogue heavy, I wanted to make sure the art was interesting and worth spending time looking at. Oh lord did I get carried away. I'm OBSESSED with the symbolism the fandom has put to the life series and so I tried to sneak in as much meaningful symbolism as possible. AND THE RESULT:

Anyway, I can't overstate how proud I feel to have gotten to work on this project. My whole goal as a hobbyist is to get to work with other artists I look up to and respect so this was a dream come true! Thank you everyone for reading, for 15k downloads (!!!), and for just being an awesomely creative fandom space to make art in! I hope to do more stuff like this again some day 💕

Abel chuckled at her fussing, a side of Fish he'd not seen before. In a strange way that lifted him, the thought that now he might get to see all the sides of her he never would have had a chance to. All the facets of her personality, all her smiles and frowns...he wanted it all.

He wanted her. More sure than he'd ever wanted anything before. He wasn't used to feeling this way about anyone, never finding this same spark with the people he'd dated before his life was almost torn away in the arena. But Fish was so different.

"Water would be good." He replied, shifting himself cautiously, trying to sit up. Something felt off, though. Wrong. He paused for a moment, assessing his body, trying to pinpoint what wasn't adding up.

When he shifted again he noticed the movement of the sheets- or rather, the lack of movement from one side. He saw his right foot brush under the covers, but not the left. It was instinct to throw the sheet back and see for himself what he didn't want to consider, dread building quickly at the back of his throat like bile.

Fuck. Fuck!

The lower half of his left leg was missing. It was bandaged neatly, everything clean. But only the space just below his knee. His calf, his foot, they were gone. An empty space.

“I’m so happy you’re here” Another sob. Tears of joy and relief, but of worry, too. Their survival, their lives… It had all been up to the whims of the gamemakers. So what now?

This question kept twirling in her mind, driving her insane. They could have killed Abel during surgery, making it seem like an accident. But they didn’t. Was this generosity? Coming from the Capitol, she found it hard to believe, and it left an acidic taste in the back of her throat. Like she could lose him at any moment.

“Are you thirsty? Do you want some water? Maybe you need some rest? Or maybe you’re hungry? I can- I can see if I can ask for some food.”

i'm gonna be sooo honest with you. i'm 100% positive i liked and read both of those when they were first published because i also have Artificer & 'Phile on my list, but i cannot for the life of me remember details of either fic. i hesitate to rec anything because i haven't reread any of these in like a decade. here's some i have saved:

Pretend not to be by ladyshinkicker (lj) - a post-s3 fic where hg comes back as a ghost. angst AND humor, i think?

A Unique Eulogy by tenacious-err (hm deleted from lj, but let me send you link for the waybackmachine) - post-s3, myka says goodbye to hg. ah, that's right... i'm a sucker for these kinds of scenarios.

Timeless by aniklachev? - it's a post 4x01 romance/case fic that i can't find anywhere else now that the wordpress site is down. so, i'm afraid it only exists in downloaded copies now.

The Sleeper Wakes by hardseeds (ffnet) - a series of vignettes post-s3? the summary's kind of vague lol

Continuum by MykaWells (ao3) - not a bering and wells fic. i remember liking this because it was one of the very, very few fics that actually had leena as more than a minor role. unfortunately, she's still dead.

i also know there were a LOT of fun tumblr ficlets (and full on chaptered fics), but i cannot recall a single one right now 😳

haha these all ended up being canon-ish fic. i think i just liked the angst and pain too much. enjoy!

i know there were canon fics i read back in the day but i think most of them are still on ff.net and damned if i can remember any of them anymore lmao
