hi :3 just wanted to let you know you have an error on your Haley newsome post. She’s bi, not lesbian, as stated in the description of her latest “tuning pride flags into art” video
Thanks for letting me know. Her post has been updated.
I'm filling out a university application form guys it's time to name-drop the YouTubers who've influenced me most; Shoutout to Torriku Sotaru, Erica Wester and my girl Lavendertowne you guys had me at a chokehold when I was in middleschool. Honorable mentions are too numerous to count
Esther and I have been reading Unfamiliar by @lavendertowne ! I've read it on Tapas, but it's so exciting to read it again in print! The art and printing quality are absolutely lovely. I'm so pleased to have a copy.
I had no idea just how long some sections were. The illusion of comics-app-scrolling kind of tricks you into thinking you've read less than you have. It's a good reminder of how hard web-comics artists work and how much more recognition and support they deserve for what they do! 🌸✨
This is a quick read of cute characters who easily become friends. I really liked the art style that reminds me a bit of the animated series Adventure Time. Planchette is a kitchen witch, who is great at making yummy food in her cauldron, but not too good at everything else. She has a familiar who is kind of snarky and they move into a house that is haunted by creepy ghosts! Planchette isn't too keen on the ghosts staying, so she tries to recruit some help. She is able to find a siren named Babs and a grumpy witch named Sun (who reluctantly assists).
There is a plot, but things do seem to bounce around from scene to scene, introducing a few characters before they're gone on the next page. However, the flow is simple and it wasn't too distracting. Again, very Adventure Time-esque. I'll definitely pick up volume 2 to see how this unfolds, but I'm not sure it has a deep message to it.

If you’ve spent time on Tapas, you’ve probably already spotted this witchy read. Unfamiliar is a fun series written and illustrated by Haley Newsome. It’s a series I’ve been following for a while now on Tapas, but when I saw it was getting a graphic novel, I knew I had to re-read and…
Out this week: Unfamiliar (Andrews McMeel/Tapas, $15.99):
Haley Newsome’s popular Tapas webcomic comes to print in this collection from Andrews McMeel. It’s the story of a young witch, Planchette, who buys a haunted house and tries to help the ghosts there with all their problem.
See what other comics and graphic novels are arriving in stores this week.
This was such a fun read. Everyone, please read it. The art style is adorable the story is so sweet. It follows Planchette, a kitchen witch, who moves into her own new house only to find out it is chock full of ghosts! And she had no idea what to do!
There are other magical girls here, one who didn’t have a familiar and was talking to a pigeon and didn’t realize she was talking to it and it…
Reluctant Reader Wednesday: Unfamiliar by Haley Newsome
Planchette is a kitchen witch who can use her magical powers to create amazing food. Unfortunately, when she and her familiar (a bunny named Winston) move into a house that turns out to be haunted by lots of ghosts, her magic can’t help her with this problem. Planchette doesn’t know how to get rid of these ghosts, so she looks for help.
As she meets new characters (and their own adorable familiars), bonds of friendship begin to form. Each girl has her own strengths and challenges, and soon they are helping to solve each other’s problems. Some of the problems require creative thinking, or empathy, or even the Witchyhow website to solve them. And some of the problems are resolved by learning that family, or beauty, or popularity, or anything else we tend to think is so important really ISN’T all that it’s cracked up to be.
Overall, this is a cute and ultimately uplifting story that contains serious elements within it. By the end of the story, readers will clearly understand that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, that being popular can feel great for some people but terrible for others, and that if you don’t fit in to the family you have, you can find another one that will make you happy and fulfilled!
Give this book to any teens who are fans of the Unfamiliar webcomic, and any readers who would appreciate positive and uplifting stories about magic and friendship!
Trump only lost Vermont, but it was very close. All the other states he won by large margins, in six of them by more than 50 points. So, this morning Nikki Haley suspended her campaign. She finally went home, good riddance. Aside from all the legal challenges, Trump can now focus on beating Joe Biden. That is of course if he remains in the race, which many people doubt he will. I'm not sure what to think on it, I'm fifty-fifty. I really don't know if he'll be the nominee. I mean, just looking at him walk and talk it just doesn't seem possible that he can make it, yet the democrats don't seem to have a viable alternative, save for maybe Michelle Obama or Gavin Newsom. Apparently, Michelle Obama doesn't really want it, and Newsom's horrible track record in California would not give him much of a chance to beat Trump. Forget Kamala Harris, she's worse than Biden. It seems to me that the democrats have painted themselves into a corner, they know it, they're panicking, and I love it!
