Bruno: I have decided to use my powers for evil and ruin friendships over dinner - what is the best musical of all time?
Dolores: The Phantom of the Opera, fight me on it.
Camilo: I will! As the theatre kid of this house, my answer is the big and right one. And I’m picking Mean Girls and Legally Blonde because they are the most iconic!!
Isabela: You wanna talk about iconic? Okay, bitch, then look no further than Audrey II. A plant that kills people and sings, fucking supreme icon status! Little Shop of Horrors is the best musical!
Luisa: In your dreams, sis. Best musical is clearly Heathers or Hamilton. You don’t get better than musicals starting with ‘H’.
Félix: Nice try, but you can’t get better than Moulin Rouge.
Pepa: Have you all just forgotten that Chicago exists!?
Alma: West Side Story was always mine and Pedro’s favourite musical.
Julieta: I’ve always quite liked Waitress—
Bruno: Uh no, that one’s boring. Now, Wicked, is the best musical for so many reasons. I relate to Elphaba on a spiritual level.
Mirabel: Well, you’re all wrong. It should be SIX but the historical inaccuracy ruins it. Therefore Les Misérables easily wins this competition, such a beautiful musical adaption of one of the best books ever written.
Bruno: Wasn’t Wicked based on a book?
Mirabel, scoffs: Not a very good one.
Antonio: My favourite is The Lion King! All of the animal puppets are so cool!
Agustín: You know, my favourite is Shrek.
Everyone else:
Everyone else: What the fuck?

Can you recommend some musicals? I never watched a musical 😱😂
Oh!! !!
Okay so the only musicals I've actually seen are Aladdin, Wizard of Oz, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in theatre. And Come From Away via bootleg on YouTube. But I do listen to a lot of musicals, so... I'm gonna recommend from whatever I'm familiar with, is that okay? Hah ^^
If you like a splash of HISTORY with your showtunes:
Bonnie & Clyde || Blues, Gospel and Rockabilly: A D E F I N E T E personal favourite of mine. Oh my god, I love it. Aside from romanticising criminals, its amazing! Beautiful music, and multiple love stories to actually enjoy ^^ - if you can separate it from the real thing. I know some people cant and are uncomfortable with stuff like that (Especially with Lizzie, which I'm gonna talk about after Hamilton) but if you just enjoy Jeremy Jordan and Laura Osnes you're good XD
Hamilton || Hip Hop- I just put this here because everyone (Seemingly, except me) love it and you probably will too! ^^
Lizzie || Punk Rock Opera: Another All Girl musical! Cuz we can never have enough of these ^^ This time its about Lizzie Borden and her murdering her father and her stepmother in 1892 (So this isn't everyone's cup of tea, obviously). I'm loving it at the moment though because, again, the actor's voices are all gorgeous, and emotive, and music is amazingly written and passionate.
Six || British Pop music: This is about Henry the Eighths 6 wives (Divorced, Beheaded, Died, Divorced, Beheaded, Survived) and what happened to them. It involves them explaining THEIR side of the story (Whether its historically accurate or not) and trying to decide 'Who had it worst?'. Its just... so much girl power, and the costumes are so colourful and cool, and the actors are all so t a l e n t e d, and are all very cool too ^^
If you like VILLAINS- which you probably do. You are here on this blog after all ^^ :
Be More Chill || Pop Rock: Hooooly crap, the Squip (Super Quantum Intel Processor) is hot. Way too hot. Its no far. He's literally a computer. But anyway, the musical (And book) is about this teenage boy that climbs the ranks of school social hierarchy by swallowing down a pill from Japan that has a supercomputer in it designed to help him get popular and 'more chill'. Its very popular and for good reason- I definitely recommend 'The Squip Song', if nothing else!
Beetlejuice: If you didn't like the movie version of BJ, you might actually like this one! Alex Brightman's version is a little less totally disgusting, while still upkeeping that familiar gross, flirty vibe that defines him.
Heathers || Rock: Whether you listen to the original Broadway cast or the West End version, you get a myriad of antagonistic/villainous characters to choose from, varying from the lunkhead football players, to bitchy 90's Mean Girls, to the man of the hour JD who is basically Billy Loomis with pyromaniacal tendencies. This is another one about a teenager climbing the ranks of social hierarchy in highschool- but this time, with murder.
Mean Girls || Rock: Basically, modern Heathers! Regina George is a super villain in her own right, e s e p e c i a l l y in the musical version of the story. Songs like 'Apex Predator' and 'World Burn' really give her that impressive, badass, wicked energy that sets your villain senses alight haha XD
Moulin Rouge || Pop : Oh my god oh my god, my favourite. This is Jukebox musical which means its made entirely of covers of pre-existing songs (Highlights from Katy Perry, Elton John and Pink feature) mushed together to make a story. The Duke is the villain in this story and he is such an evil, possessive Sugar Daddy. Like a Disney Villain with actual sexual references.
If you want your heart warmed!:
Come From Away || Traditional Musical Theatre styles and Traditional Nefoundland orchestrations: Okay I know I said Moulin Rouge was my favourite... but Come From Away is REALLY my favourite. This is about 9/11, but not the violent parts. This is about all those passengers in planes that day that survived, but couldn't touch down in the USA that day so had to stay in Canada. It follows multiple storylines with (Real life) people dealing with what has happened and what could have happened to them, among other things. Okay my description has done nothing for this magnificent show but trust me, its fricken magnificent.
Legally Blonde: Okay I think most of us are familiar with Legally Blonde but in case you aren't!- An 'air head blonde' works hard and gets into Law school in order to prove to 'the love of her life' that she is serious, until she realises that he is a piece of crap and that she actually likes Law and that she can help people with this and beats him out in classes. Its just *chefs kiss*. We stan women being themselves and being as feminine as they goddamn like and that not having anything to do with their IQ.
~
I also recommend & Juliet (Juke Box musical; 'If Juliet didn't die at the end': Representation), and 35MM (Theirs some REALLY GOOD, DARK stuff in there).

I was tagged by @fivefeetapart, thanks !!! I hope you have the loveliest day
Here’s six facts about me:
1. I’m a giant musical theatre fan. My faves are Wicked, Elisabeth das Musical, Legally Blonde, and Hamilton (duh), and I love the soundtracks of Waitress, Little Woman, and Phantom. I listen to musicals nearly every day and my unobtainable life goal is to one day perform in a proper musical.
2. If you see me staring at nothing, you can be 90% sure I’m singing in my head. It almost always matches my mood or the vibe of the day... That’s a bit weird if I think about it.
3. I’m studying sociology at university. What interests me the most at the moment is the depiction and roles of women* in contemporary media (in the news, in movies, in series etc.), but idk if this is what I will be doing later on.
4. oh god this is difficult. Umm.. I have started learning German Sign Language. I’m not very good yet, but it’s something I’ve been wanting to learn for quite some time. I can spell my name and state my age and stuff like that, but I want to get better throughout the year. It’s a lot of fun, actually.
5. Since Quarantine(TM), I have been loving Yoga as much as the next person. I love it especially because it reminds me of the time when I did competitive cheerleading, which I had to quit because it wrecked my body (I miss it though).
6. I’m very much into baking. I made cinnamon rolls the other day, and have perfected my subway-dupe cookies. My prime was when I made a three-layered orange/marzipan cake when I was still in high-school.
This was really fun, thanks Nova! Now, I tag @callmeetcetera, @sectumsempracurse, and maybe @deathsquad9000? Sending a big hug !

QUESTION OF THE DAY #6: Send me your most unpopular theatre opinion. Something that might make someone want to fight you. Please don’t be offensive (racist, misogynistic, etc.), but other than that…go as hard as you want. Spill all the tea.
MY ANSWERS: 1) The Pretty Woman score fucking slaps idek, 2) Come From Away (or even Bandstand...) should’ve won the 2017 Best Musical Tony, 3) I prefer the West End Heathers cast album to Off Broadway, 4) Shows shouldn’t sweep the Tonys just because they’re Best Musical worthy...shows that aren’t too critically acclaimed but have really impressive elements should get recognition too.
SUMMARY: Out of 37 responses: 5 were about Dear Evan Hansen, 3 were about Hamilton specifically, 2 were about: Rent, ALW, Wicked, In The Heights, Be More Chill, etc. etc....if your favorite musical is one of these and you get easily offended i wouldn’t read these.
NOTE: I agree with some of these, I highly disagree with others. I do not endorse any of the things that were said, I am simply sharing them with you all. These were what was sent to me. I’m going to number them so if you want to complain about or agree with one you can send me an ask with the number you’re referring to.
1. howmuchchildrens said: unpopular opinion: i really liked the 2012 version of les mis. i liked russel crowe as javert.
2. Anonymous said: Unpopular opinion: Bootlegs harm to local theatre communities, though I do not believe anyone intends for that to be the case. While it's possible to bootleg responsibly (and I might even say it's beneficial to do so), those who may not know the intricacies of theatrical copyright law or who haven't heard the horror stories from a theatre that's been hit with legal action DUE to a bootleg may record or watch a show irresponsibly, which can greatly harm other routes of theatre accessibility.
3. Anonymous said: Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals are mostly terrible. He only got and stayed popular because a lot of other musical creators and taste makers died in the AIDS epidemic
4. Anonymous said: Almost all musicals using the songs of one artist are cash grabs with no plot or point.
5. Anonymous said: If your musical only has 1 woman OR the women only get sad/romantic songs you need to do something else with your life.
6. nerdshrimp said: Unpopular opinion: Next To Normal does a better job of portraying the effects of mental illness than Dear Evan Hansen does. N2N also doesn't romanticise mental illness & excuse shitty behavior like DEH tries to
7. Anonymous said: Hadestown is a lesser show on Broadway. I fell in love with the live album, and I was so excited for it to come to Broadway. I was so disappointed to see the changes they made. Orpheus and Eurydice's relationship is less interesting and more generic. The changed lyrics are often sloppy and not as good as the original. They fucking wrecked Epic III. Also, no hate to R/ee/ve, but he's just not a good enough singer to convince me that he could soften the heart of Hades. His high notes are awful.
8. Anonymous said: opinion: we are the tigers deserves a broadway run or at least a proshot
9. bimystique said: e/c is NOT A GOOD FUCKING SHIP. the ENTIRE PLOT OF PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is christine trying to escape erik's abuse. WHAT FUCKING PART OF THAT IS ROMANTIC TO YOU PEOPLE.
10. Anonymous said: unpopular theatre opinion(s): Dear Evan Hansen is Very Bad for its handling of mental illness, Hamilton is overrated and praised too much, and high school/college musical theatre programs can be just as good as Broadway. (also, musical movies would be better if they hired broadway actors, but that's not an unpopular opinion)
11. Anonymous said: I don’t like Lin Manuel Miranda and Hamilton is overrated
12. Anonymous said: I don’t like dear Evan Hansen..... at all. I think it’s kind of boring and really overhyped.
13. Anonymous said: unpopular opinion: in the heights is far better than Hamilton. both are good but ith hits different yknow
14. Anonymous said: The bring it on and legally blonde musicals are BAD! The movies are 100 times better
15. Anonymous said: unpopular opinion? wicked is the epitome of white feminism. it's preached as super great for representation but we literally got the first black glinda in 2019?!?!?!? and before that woc could only play elphaba who's villainized and deemed evil by the whole city
16. Anonymous said: Not so much an opinion as a reaction, but of all Lin's works (ITH, Bring it On, 21 Chump Street, Hamilton), 21 Chump Street gets the biggest emotional reaction of all the cast recordings. The second Justin is like "I don't want your money" (And then later on with the "...what the heck did you.... dooooo", I am a complete goner. Worse than Abuela Claudia and Philip Hamilton's deaths combined
17. Anonymous said: Whenever Je.ssie Mu.eller hits certain notes, she sounds like Tommy Pickles from Rugrats.
18. Anonymous said: aotd6: not everyone knows what im talking about, but the cats 2016 broadway revival choreography was WAYYYY better than the original. the original had a lot of creepy uncomfortable moments and the new one looks way cleaner and up to date
19. Anonymous said: raoul is better than the phantom in every conceivable way
20. Anonymous said: I hate Anastasia so much. it's such a boring show and the music is uninteresting. I wanted to like it so bad but GOD is it boring.
21. Anonymous said: In the Heights.... Overrated.
22. Anonymous said: I do not know if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but here is my opinion: Musicals that are entirely or nearly entirely songs (Hamilton, Hadestown, In The Heights, etc) are the most valid bc I can understand the plot without using wikipedia (I'm looking at you, Jagged Little Pill, I love you but what is your plot????)
23. Anonymous said: I'd rather have a bad film adaptation than no film adaptation
24. Anonymous said: Rent sucks and while it was a stepping stone for more ""controversial"" topics to appear on Broadway it's actually biphobic and features several generally terrible people doing generally terrible things and doesn't actually address the real crisis at all; it's all performative wokeness. The only real good it did was cast a bunch of "nobodies" for the time and make theater somewhat more accessible.
25. stardust-and-seas said: Dear Evan Hansen doesn't properly address mental health despite being about mental health and resolves nobodies character arcs satisfactorily. It's another show that reaches its hands around the throats of marginalized teenagers saying "look I'm relatable!!" The songs taken out of context are significantly more powerful than when placed in the context of the show, which gives us exactly zero evidence of Evan's work to improve and also never resolves Evan's u healthy goals in the first place.
26. stardust-and-seas said: Be More Chill is a raging dumpster fire and the only decent song from it, Michael in the Bathroom, reads as a whiny rich white boy whose potential social anxiety and depression is left ambiguous, which is exactly what it is. When taken out of context it better exemplifies the othering that happens to marginalized groups but lets be real here: bullying/cliques don't happen to "just anyone"; it's the marginalized groups that are othered and abandoned for not being "normal"
27. stardust-and-seas said: There's a difference between shows that don't take themselves seriously because they're meant to be fun and light and shows that pretend not to take themselves too seriously but want to be taken seriously by the audience and the latter always ends up mediocre at best
28. redueka said: i think that dear evan hansen handles every issue it presents badly. i also think that beetlejuice was badly directed
29. Anonymous said: Well I don’t EVER condone cheating, I’m team Jamie in the last five years. He tried so hard to make their relationship and life good, and Cathy gave him nothing in return
30. youcanlolyoucansayohwell said: The answer of the day- I don't get the BMC hype. I'm out of the age bracket it's meant for that might it be. I enjoy it but I don't think it's the greatest thing in the world like some theatre fans do.
31. Anonymous said: i like the rent 2005 recording better than the obcr
32. Anonymous said: unpopular opinion ? : the music of wicked just like isn’t that good. like it’s good but it’s not like, Good, yknow. it’s pretty standard it doesn’t stand out to me. kinda boring
33. Anonymous said: mari.ah r.ose fa.ith is not a good regina george. everything she says sounds monotonous and while i understand she's trying to play off the ""whatever"" teenager (she does this a lot with her teenage characters), 90% of the time she sounds and looks like she doesn't want to be there; her voice is great but most songs feel unnatural and forced and she changes them too much. she's just not selling regina to me as a believable character (this is all from a technical point of view)
34. Anonymous said: Unpopular Opinion: as much as i like musicals based on movies (like waitress), i think not every movie needs to be a musical.
35. Anonymous said: Unpopular opinion (?) the emojiland musical Kinda Slaps
36. Anonymous said: as one of my high school tech theatre teachers once said: "Andrew Lloyd Webber is overrated"
37. Anonymous said: sorry to whoever likes it but Seussical is an absolutely nonsense crackpot plot disguised with okay-to-good music, like I don't even know where to start. I was in the show and didn't even know there was an entire secondary plot line featuring sending children to war until we were halfway through rehearsals

Jesus, people really want to see me dump the salt I guess, haha. Okay, another unpopular opinion! Hmm hmm hmm…
So, let me gently, lovingly, take your face in my hands to softly, soothingly inform you… that not everything has to be a motherfucking musical.
Look, I like Legally Blonde as much as the next person. But it feels like everything I hear about nowadays is an adaptation, to the point where it’s seriously ludicrous. Mean Girls? Bring it On? Spongebob Motherfucking Squarepants!?
What the FUCK!?
Now, to a certain extent, everything is based on something. There is nothing new under the sun, etc. Hamilton and SIX are based on historical characters, for example. But all I’m seeing on Broadway is either a fucking jukebox or an adaptation of a film, and honestly, I’m just sitting here going, “what was the point”?
The point of taking something from one type of media (book, film, play, comic) and turning it into another type of media, is to do something genuinely new with it. For example, the book Wicked and the musical Wicked are extremely different stories. The musical is about the relationship between two women, and is more black and white in its statements about politics. The book is much darker, the friendship between Glinda and Elphaba is only in one third of the book, and there is a lot more going on (and a lot more shades of gray, morally speaking). If I had to summarize them, I’d say the book is a historical political thriller while the other is a relationship dramedy. And both are equally good. Just different.
But Moulin Rouge? I’m sorry but why would I shell out hundreds of bucks to go and see that? Same with Frozen, for example. They’re already musicals as movies. Why pay a ton of money to go see what is 80% the same story that I can watch on Netflix or rent for five bucks?
Adaptations from movies into musicals don’t usually bring enough new stuff to the table. Take even Legally Blonde, which as I said I enjoy. The musical takes more time to dig into Elle and Emmett’s relationship, which makes it different from the film, but honestly it’s still pretty much the same story. It doesn’t do anything new with the source material. Which means I’m sitting there thinking, “why did you make this into a musical, then?”
It doesn’t help that musicals that really do something original and push the envelope like Bandstand get passed over, ignored, and close early. Critics whine and complain about how vapid substance-less musicals are taking over Broadway but all they do is occasionally support a musical that is envelope-pushing in a way that they decide is safe (most recently, Hamilton) and then they pat themselves on the back for being so ‘liberal’.
I mean I hate Dear Evan Hansen with everything in me but at least it was an original musical. At least it wasn’t based on anything. If you’re going to turn something into a musical think, how will I make this different enough from the source material to warrant an independent production? How can I tell this story as a musical, live onstage, that I couldn’t tell when it was a movie/book/etc?
Because frankly, Pretty Woman et al are just the same as their source material. And I’m not shelling out ten bucks, never mind hundreds, to watch that.
AND WHAT IS WITH THE FUCKING JUKEBOX MUSICALS. Am I a snob for wanting new songs!? I adore Mamma Mia, I really do, but every time I turn around there’s a new musical featuring nothing but a paper-thin plot used to thread together a bunch of songs that you already know, have already heard, and frankly will have more fun screaming along to and dancing along to with your friends in your basement than you will sitting in a theatre. & Juliet, Head over Heels, and so on do have intriguing plots but was it too fucking much to ask that the songs in them not be a bunch of Top Ten Hits?
And at least those HAVE plots. Jersey Boys and its clones where it’s just a person or group of people standing on stage singing song after song and telling their Sad Artist life story in between makes me want to set something on fire. Preferably the theatre where that musical is performing.
So yeah. I don’t think the majority of musicals coming out nowadays are good. I’m sick of the Disney Broadway adaptations same as I’m sick of the Disney live-action remakes we’re getting on film. I don’t want to see most films made into musicals, and I certainly don’t want to see ridiculous childhood cartoons made into musicals, and I really really do not want to pay hundreds of dollars to listen to people sing Billboard’s Top 100 Hits.
Having said all of that the Percy Jackson musical is amazing and those snobby theatre critics can meet me in the backalley the actors use as a smokebreak room so I can fight them

Yooo, it's a Carson drabble - Migraine and psychic vision
Carson didn't have many nervous habits, or at least he thought he didn't until being locked in this interrogation room for the past hour. The foot tapping he got over in college came back with full force, as did the earlobe pulling from elementary school, and the the finger drumming he thought he kicked back in eighth grade. How long were they gonna keep him in here? Better question, why?
Clearly someone intended to keep him busy and Riley and Morris where nowhere to be found around the station. On a normal day he'd probably sit there and wait, it's not like he had a job to be at anyways. But today, he could only assume the universe was playing some sick joke on him.
The door cracked open and a small plump woman appeared. A pair of reading glasses rested on top of her head. "Deputy Thompson will be with you shortly." She smiled sweetly.
Carson swallowed and continued his foot tapping. "Mmhmm any minute now I'm sure." It came out harsher than he had intended, he's gotten that line too many times already. Deputy Thompson wasn't coming any time soon. God he just felt so terrible. But that wasn't this lady's fault. He cleared his throat and tried to put as much politeness into his voice as possible, "could I trouble you for some water?"
"Oh of course, I'll be right back with that." She paused in the doorway, "Can I call your parents for you?"
Carson blinked. She did not just say that. Either this lady really was going blind or he needed to reconsider growing a beard. The laughter that bubbled out of his throat sounded strained and more than a little crazed. The laughing quickly turned into wheezing and the lady went to get the water.
Carson laid his head down on the cold table, it felt so good against his cheek. It had only been an hour but his mind was running a mile a minute making it feel much longer. Carson had woken up that morning with a horrible migraine. He'd like to say it was the worst of his life but sadly, it barely made it into the top five, and he knew from experience that it would likely get worse before it got better. After what happened at the bookshop he was even more on edge. Who knows when it might happen again?
Carson raked his hand through his hair anxiously. The woman returned a moment later with a small Dixie cup full of water. She looked like she wanted to say something to him but simply frowned and closed the door again. It locked automatically, the damn thing was mocking him. Just a flick of his wrist and he could unlock the door himself. It was the station full of armed police men and women that were the real obstacle in his escape plan.
As he was giving the door his best murderous glare he noticed something beside it -- the light switch. Why hadn't he thought of it earlier? His brain was about to liquify and burst from his skull. Darkness would only be a small mercy on his head but the thought made him smile with actual joy. The bright lights in the room were making his vision flicker and shake nauseatingly. One hand was cuffed to the table so he couldn't get up and turn them off but he didn't need to. Carson sent a tiny bit of energy towards the light switch and the room plunged into pleasant darkness. He laid his head down on the table again, trying to ignore the way he could feel his pulse in his eyeballs as the blood pounded through them.
He must have fallen asleep because suddenly the light was back on and a very impatient looking man stood in the doorway.
"Well if it isn't the illusive Deputy Thompson. It's a pleasure to finally meet you." Carson smiled viciously as he lifted his head, slowly, from the table. Despite his efforts to hide it, he winced as the movement sent waves of pure discomfort through his body.
The deputy sank into the seat across him, apparently ignoring his disrespectful sarcasm. Carson was expecting the deputy to finally have something to say to him, but to his dismay the man continued to sit silently. Carson had no idea what they had brought him in for. The only crime he'd committed recently was download all nine seasons of The Office illegally but they couldn't possibly know about that... could they?
If the silence was meant to be uncomfortable Carson didn't even notice it under the sheer agony in his head that made his whole body feel overheated and gross. The reflective metal of the walls allowed him to see just how bad he really looked and honestly he wasn't sure why someone hadn't begged to get him a doctor yet.
An unknown number of hours had passed and by now he was sickly pale and what started out as a thin layer of sweat was starting to stain most of his T-shirt. He also noticed that his hands had started to shake and he couldn't even hide it because one of his hands was cuffed to the table in plain view of the deputy. If he listened really closely he could hear the faint sound of scraping metal as his wrist rattled involuntarily.
Carson caved first and broke the stalemate they had going, time to use the one card he had up his sleeve, "Look, I've been waiting in here for a while now and I've been pretty patient with you, but it's time you tell me why I'm here before I get the most powerful lawyer in New York down here to ask you the same question, and he won't say please."
The deputy crossed his arms and smirked, he figured there was no way Carson could afford a good lawyer let alone the best in New York. He was unemployed and probably into hard drugs judging by the state he was in now. Thompson had seen plenty of junkies come in with the same look, pale, sweaty, shaking, eyes that twitch and move around the room way too quickly. He decided to call Carson's bluff and slid a pad of paper toward him.
"Go ahead and write the name and number and we'll be sure to contact him right away."
Carson fumbled with the pen, trying to write with the wrong hand. It was barely legible but he managed to scrawl the name and phone number which he had memorized for just such an occasion. He slid the paper back to the deputy smugly and leaned back in his chair. "Go ahead, I'll wait."
"Hamilton and Peters? Is this some kind of prank?"
They were a multi-million dollar firm and Carson happened to do Peters a huge favor a while back when he cured the man's early onset alzheimers, allowing him to keep the practice along with his memories and general functionality. In exchange he gave Carson $100,000 for college and lifetime pass of free legal help whenever he needed it.
"Just tell them it's for Carson Hall."
He had just barely finished his sentence when a spike of pain was driven through both of his temples. Grabbing at his head Carson muffled a sound of pain that threatened to ruin his whole tough guy routine. He took a few breathes and blinked his eyes, fighting to stuff the pain down for a bit longer.
The lady from before stepped into the room for a split second to grab the lawyer's information before heading back to her desk at reception. She gave Carson a nervous glance seeing how much he'd deteriorated since she last checked in on him.
"Well, are you going to tell me what this is about?" Carson asked, his voice strained.
"Don't you think we should wait for your lawyer? Assuming he'll drop everything he's doing and come right away."
"He fucking better", Carson thought. His back was starting to ache from sitting in this stupid metal chair for the last few hours. He tried to find a more comfortable position but when he moved he was assaulted by a wave of dizziness and for a few horrible seconds he thought he might actually black out. If the room wasn't spinning before, it certainly was now. Carson swallowed down the accompanying nausea and put his free hand on his stomach subconsciously.
He had the sinking feeling that his unbearable migraine was only the start to his problems. Given his luck lately he was especially wary when his body suddenly decided to feel this bad. Pride was the only thing keeping him from throwing up all over the table at this point.
"So I'm assuming you know I've been consulting for your lead detective Henry Morris. How do you think he's gonna react when he finds out you've been keeping me here, making it so I can't help him with the case?" Carson asked. Talking was requiring more and more energy but he refused to show this prick how much pain he was in.
"Well you see, Detective Morris and his partner are out on very important business. They probably won't be back until late tonight, or maybe they'll just decide to come in and report tomorrow." Thompson said, his voice was pure hatred. No doubt he planned to keep him locked in here for as long as he could.
The man clearly had a problem with him but Carson couldn't imagine why. Surely he'd remember if he had met this asshole before, and he was pretty sure he hadn't, yet the tension seemed personal somehow. He had no choice but to coax the answer out of him with a few well placed insults.
"Oh I understand. Morris has actual important things to do, unlike you who has dedicated his whole day to hanging out with me. You really know how to make a guy feel special." Carson seethed. Anger flared in the deputy's eyes, now they were getting somewhere. The man across from him ignored the comment and propped his feet up on the table, feigning disinterest.
"I couldn't help but notice that picture on your desk, you know the one, blue eyes, blonde air, amazing rack. Is she your daughter?" Carson gave him a wicked smile and leaned forward like he was going to tell him a secret, "Wait, don't tell me, is she your girlfriend?" He didn't have the slightest interest in the girl but the look on Thompson's face told him he was close to breaking him. That last comment is what put him over the edge. Thompson stood up and grabbed a fistful of Carson's shirt, dragging him up with him. Standing proved to be much more of a challenge than sitting and Carson's knees turned to wobbly jello.
"I know your type, you magicians think you're untouchable, above the law. Well, I don't trust you as far as I could kick you, Henry shouldn't either. I don't want to see you around the station or any of my coworkers again you piece of shit, understand?"
Wow, this whole thing was because he has magic. It had nothing to do with the case or anything personal, thing guy was just some sort of racist against magic users. So it really was the universe making a cruel joke at his expense. The guy even wanted him to stop aiding the investigation against the real dangerous criminals. Carson's limited knowledge of magic was their only advantage against the gang and Thompson wanted him to just go home and let people die. Carson knew magicians tended to keep their heads down for a reason, but this was just ridiculous. Carson brought his eyes up to meet the man's. The deputy's eyes were bloodshot and tired, the little red veins splintering away from his blue irises made him look older and a hell of a lot meaner. Once they'd made eye contact, Carson refused to look away. That's how dogs assert dominance, and the same trick worked pretty well with humans too.
The connection grew stronger and Carson started to panic as a familiar feeling washed over him. His vision tunneled until he could only make out Thompson's eyes. The rest of the interrogation room blurred and disappeared. It felt eerily like when he looked into the dead girl's eyes in the bookshop. Holy shit, maybe this was what triggered the very thing he'd been trying so hard to avoid, and he'd walked right into it. A tingling sensation ran up his spine, leaving an awful numbness in its wake. Carson's whole body felt weak, like Thompson's grip on his shirt was the only thing holding him up. Back in the bookshop, the transition was nearly instantaneous, this time it drew out a lot longer, and Carson was aware of every second of it. His arms and legs started to tremble furiously as he felt himself slipping. He got one look at the the deputy's shocked face before it dissolved into a blurry mess.
Next thing he knew he was on the floor though one arm was still wrenched toward the table top. Metal cut into his skin. It hurt, but not nearly as much as his head did. The fear inside him reignited as he lost feeling in his arms and legs. His mind stammered and sputtered to a stop, eyes finally fluttering closed.
It was dark outside, a light rain obscured his view into the alley. Carson's heart raced and his hands shook where they gripped the gun. Wait a second, why did he have a gun? He looked closer to see that those weren't his hands, this wasn't his body at all. A loud noise drew his attention back to the alley. A figure emerged from the shadows wearing a dark coat and hood that hid most of his face. Something in the way he held himself made his skin crawl, he was dangerous. That's when he recognized him -- Foster. He looked younger though, the grey hair sprinkled in his beard was now a uniform jet black. And he wasn't holding a weapon, he was holding fire. Carson felt the exact moment that the person he was seeing through realized that Foster was a magic user and he had to fight to think through the sudden surge of fear. It didn't make sense. Foster and his gang didn't emerge until recently, this memory could have been ten years ago. The gun fired twice and jolted in his hand. The bullets aimed at Foster's head seemed to catch in some kind of invisible web and fell to the ground. Just as they had the night Carson got shot.
Fire leapt out of his hand, striking the ground by Thompson's feet as he jumped back, narrowly avoiding its path. His partner wasn't so lucky and the fire threw him back like an explosion, unseen force drove him into the brick wall behind him with the force of a speeding truck, he was dead. Just like that. Thompson was thrown to the ground next to him. Carson felt the pull of his consciousness trying to break out of the memory. But just before it did, a young girl stepped up beside Foster. Energy sparked between her hands and her long hair which first appeared to be a rich black, looked more like a deep purple when illuminated by the streetlamp. Carson had seen that color before. He couldn't look at her aura through Thompson's eyes, but somehow he was sure that the dark energy he saw at the crime scene a week ago belonged to this girl. He had to find her, but Carson didn't get to see her face before everything faded to black.
Thompson stared hard into Carson's eyes, initiating an unspoken battle. Carson met his challenge and stared right back as if he was trying to punch him using only his gaze. A few seconds passed and it looked like neither of them were going to back down, until Carson blinked. Then he blinked again, and again, in rapid succession. His light blue irises tried to disappear up into his head and Thompson felt his body start to tremble under his grip. He didn't know what was happening at first, and might have even accused Carson of faking it. But when Carson's knees buckled and he slipped out of Thompson's hold, crumpling to the floor, his hand was still cuffed to the top of the table and the fall wrenched his arm back at an angle awkward enough to start pulling joints from their sockets. No conscious person would willingly put themself in that position, whatever was happening, it was real. All of Thompson's anger dissipated at the site of Carson shaking and moaning on the cold tile. He lunged to unlock the cuffs before they caused any further damage. The skin on his wrist was already raw and bruised.
"Excuse me Deputy, Mr. Peters is here to talk to his client." The receptionist said as she poked her head through the doorway. She gasped at the scene unfolding inside and froze for a moment. "I'll um, I'll call an ambulance." She stuttered and ran off, leaving Collin Peters outside in the hallway. He didn't hesitate to throw open the door like he owned the place, because if he didn't now, it could easily be arranged.
His face twisted in shock and rage, "what the hell is going on in here?!" He demanded, his booming voice echoing around the small room. Thompson crouched next to Carson's head, trying to keep him from banging it on anything as his body thrashed around helplessly. The deputy paled visibly when he realized the most powerful man in New York had, indeed, dropped everything and made it to the station in less than 20 minutes. He was in deep shit.
Peters took off his grey twead coat which easily cost as much as two months rent in Carson's building, underneath he wore an even more impressive three piece suit. Folding up his coat, Peters bent over to slip it under Carson's head and bony shoulders.
"Back up." He barked. The startled deputy backed away immediately. It had been a long time since he'd seen Carson but he had taken quite a liking to him when they met and it pained him to see the boy in such a state.
Carson's eyes were open, staring vacantly, a look of mild fear frozen on his face. His arms and legs twitched violently as all his muscles tensed up uncontrollably. Peters knew enough about first aid to not try to restrain him, letting the apparent seizure run its course. He gently encouraged him to turn onto his side to keep his airway open in case he vomited. Which, judging by the little choking sounds he was making, seemed like a very real possibility. A few people hovered by the door, unsure of what to do. Three whole minutes had gone by before Carson started to still.
The spasms settled down and left him panting, seemingly exhausted. Carson rested for a bit as his brain caught up with his body. He somehow looked even worse than he did before.
The lawyer stood up suddenly, scowling into the hallway. "You'd better pray that my client doesn't decide to sue for negligence." He said. Despite not knowing anything of what happened before he arrived, the lawyer could twist the truth any way he wanted to fit the situation and the deputy knew it. Anyone who was at all in touch with the legal system knew who he was and what he was capable of. The short older woman who worked in reception sighed in relief as two paramedics made their way into the building. It was unnecessary of course, Carson didn't have a medical problem, he had a magical problem.
Carson opened his eyes slowly, he didn't recognize the cold, strange room at first and Peters had to hold him down, putting a heavy hand on his chest when he suddenly tried to get up.
"Where, where is... this." Carson mumbled, his mind couldn't quite find the words he was looking for.
"You're in an interrogation room at the police station." Someone said from above him. He looked up to see a very well dressed middle aged man hovering over him. Slowly he remembered why he was there and that he'd called the lawyer really just to cause trouble for everyone.
"Oh good, you came." Carson said tiredly, letting his eyes slip closed again.
"Of course, I'm not one to forget my debts, Carson." The calm and control in the man's voice let him relax a little. Everything would be taken care of, and while it was, he'd just take a quick nap. The pounding in his head had lessened slightly but Carson was still tired and sore. He reached a hand up to grab the soft pillow under his head and was surprised when his hand made contact with a button. Reluctantly he opened his eyes a little to see that it wasn't a pillow but was instead a rather expensive looking coat... and he'd drooled on it. This day just gets better and better.
Peters moved out of the way so two young paramedics could get to him. Carson groaned, he just wanted to go home.
"That's not... you don't have to look at me... I'm fine." Carson said, trying to wiggle away from the new set of invasive hands.
"We have to take you to the hospital, sir. New onset seizures need to be checked by a physician, there could be a very serious cause-"
Carson cut her off, "it's not a seizure, it's not new, and you're not my doctor, so fuck off." He struggled to his feet with the help of the table beside him. Everyone tensed up as he did like they were expecting him to fall straight back down. Carson looked like an absolute mess but his eyes were as sharp and alert as ever. His lawyer scrambled to gather his things so he could escort him out.
As he made his way through the small crowd that had gathered around the interrogation room, Carson paused beside Deputy Thompson. "I think I get it now."
"What?" Thompson asked.
"Why you hate magicians, sorry about your partner."
He gave the deputy's shoulder a squeeze in a way that was both sympathetic and patronizing. Thompson watched him leave, utterly confused. As he passed the front desk the woman from before pulled out a bag of his belongings, he got a look at her nameplate as she did.
"Thank you, Janice." Carson put any loose items in his coat pockets before he put it on. The lady gave him a sweet smile. Peters caught up with him as he stepped out into the chilly October air.
"They won't be bothering you again. If you're really sure you don't want to go to the hospital I'll give you a ride home." Carson walked toward the car, he didn't need to be shown which one. The sliver sports car didn't exactly blend in.
"So what happened back there?" Peters asked with genuine interest.
"I don't really know what to call it, it's a magic thing. A couple times now when I looked into people's eyes I saw... their memories, or something like that, I'm not sure." Carson tried to explain.
The lawyer nodded, he didn't understand it but he did have a healthy respect for Carson's powers after everything he did for him. He shuddered to think about where he might be now if Carson hadn't cured him. The kid didn't even ask for much, practically pocket change at his firm.
"Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you. Hey, maybe you oughta get one of those medical alert dogs so these attacks don't sneak up on you like that." The man suggested.
He doubted a dog could alert him to anything since they weren't really seizures but he did perk up at the thought. A dog that he'd just have no choice but to take everywhere with him, and no one could argue with him about it. Carson smiled.
"That's actually a great idea."

😌 AS MANY MUSES AS POSISBLE
😌 main go to theme songI HAVE 10 MUSES DO NOT CHALLENGE MEE *evil laugh*
1. Karura - Talk to me now by Ani Di Franco
I played the powerless in too many dark scenes,And I was blessed with a birth and a death,And I guess I just wanted some say in between.
2. Yasha - Susi by Ben & Ben (the ballet at 3:18 is especially nice and something I like to listen when I want to put Yasha in a lighter mood)
Balikan kung bakit ba nagsimula (Go back to why you started)Bago mo sabihin na ayaw mo na (Before you turn the towel in)Huwag mong sosolohin (Don’t keep it to yourself)Di ka mag-isa (You are not alone)Ikaw pa rin ang susi sa takbo ng iyong tadhana(You’re the key to your own destiny)
3. Sasori - Yellow Flicker Beat by Lorde (I realize this is probably a strange choice given that I have things like Control, and Power and Control, and Centuries in my playlist. But this song will always be Sasori leaving Suna song for me so I went with that more than a personality song.)
I’m done with it (oh)This is the start of how it all endsThey used to shout my name, now they whisper itI'm speeding up and this is theRed, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart
But I got my fingers laced together and I made a little prisonAnd I'm locking up everyone who ever laid a finger on meI’m done with it (ooh)
BONUS SONG: FOR SASORI YASHA AND KARURA (AND @mita-rashi in specifically Side B of Daimyo AU)? I don’t know if it fits but it was something I thought of:
Meltdown by Stromae
Gonna blend in with the bullies and the bureaucratsArrows pierce like lightning, choppers sound like thunder clapNever will you stand, we gon' lay you downDebonair and dapper kids comin' in to take the townTry to restrain us, even though you trained usWe're better than you are, now we're gonna make you famous
4. Kamala - Immigrants, we get the job done by Hamilton Mix Tape
Buckingham Palace or Capitol HillBlood of my ancestors had that all builtIt's the ink you print on your dollar bill, oil you spillThin red lines on the flag you hoist when you killBut still we just say "look how far I come"
5. Rasa - Hindi pa Tapos by Gloc 9
Di ako nagkaroon ng pagkakataon na (I never had the chance)Magpakilala simula noon (to introduce myself. Ever since)Ang tawag nila sa akin ay ang pasimuno (they’ve been calling me the reason for it all)Habang ang nais ko lang naman ay mamuno (But I’ve only wanted to lead)At ituro ang daan katulad niyo rin naman(And to point the way. Just like most)Ako’y tinulak sa burak pagkatapos pagbintangan(I’ve been pushed into the mire, and then used as a scapegoat)Ng mga taong aking itinuring na kapatid(By people I’ve once called brothers)Gamit ang kutsilyo lubid na hawak ay pinatid(With a knife, they cut the cord I’ve been hanging from)Lahat ay kailangang lumaban kapag inaapi na(Everyone needs to fight back when pushed to the edge)Kahit dumanak ang dugo at ang puti’y maging pula(Even if the blood runs, and white turns to red)Matapos ang lahat ng sinulat na sabi nila(After everything they’ve written about me)Kung sino ako talaga ay kilala mo ba(Do you even really know who I am?)
6. Reizei - Night of the Dancing Flame and Dollhouse
I’m not even going to put lyrics here because that’s not the Reizei part of the song. It’s really the beat and the rhythm and the music and in Dollhouse specifically the ticking bit at the start. That’s the kind of music I imagine my genjutsu master drowning people into.
7. Mayumi - Little Wicked by Valerie Broussard
No one calls you honey when you're sitting on a throneOne of these days a comin', I'm gonna to take that boy's crownThere's a serpent in these still waters, lying deep downTo that King I will bow, at least for nowOne of these days a comin', I'm gonna to take that boy's crown

do you have any suggestions for someone who likes musicals but hasn't rlly gotten into musical theater??? i know there's a lot of them out there but idk where to rlly start
Okay so I kinda went overboard with the answer and wrote an essay so this is kinda long so I’m including it under the cut.
So, personally, I’ve only gotten into musical theatre in the past two years. I have a background in theatre but it’s recent that I actually got an interest in musical theatre. And what got me into it where shows like Hamilton and Heathers.
Personally, I believe that the type of music and story a person likes will make them gravitate to certain shows. I like high energy music and not ballads so you won’t see me that interested in shows like Les Miserables. So figuring out what genre you’re into is a good start.
As for a couple of suggestions, I’m going to give you a few well-known shows that perhaps you might find to your liking.
Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen are probably some of the most popular shows in the recent years because they have some type of appeal to almost everyone. Hamilton is history what one can consider history made fun with rap battles and  a musical score that opened a new type of approach to such shows. Dear Evan Hansen is one of those typical ‘student fucks something up and tries to fix things’ with a typical high school setting. The number of shows that fall into that category is big as it’s a genre that has a lot of appeal especially to younger audiences. Heathers, Mean Girls and Be More Chill are other examples of this type of trope and despite the same idea, they have different stories and that’s what makes them so fun to watch.
There’s shows with amazing comedy such as Something Rotten (good if especially if you have a dislike to Shakespeare) and even darker humour such as The Book Of Mormon (from the creators of South Park). If you’re into book series such as Percy Jackson and Harry Potter, there’s The Lightning Thief Musical and Starkid Productions’ A Very Potter Musical series.
Then there’s reimagined children’s classic and Disney shows such as Wicked, Shrek (this one is actually so good despite being well, Shrek), The Lion King, Peter Pan, Newsies, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, SpongeBob SquarePants and Frozen.
Some notable mentions which are also my personal favourites are Legally Blonde- it’s a very light-hearted feel-good show yet it still conveys a strong message of empowerment- and anything William Finn. Falsettos and A New Brain are in my opinion masterpieces and if I had to start giving you reasons why this post would already get immensely longer than it already is. Just be warned, there’s some (read: a lot of) feels in them. Also, if you’re into drag queen culture, I highly suggest Kinky Boots (although it has more than just drag queen but it’s a major theme in it) and Everyone’s Talking About Jamie (it’s from West End and it’s being produced into a movie, it’s extremely underrated for some reason). Hedwig and The Angry Inch is also a beautiful musical that makes me utterly speechless and in awe with an equally as amazing storyline.
Then there’s classics such as Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s works and other old-timey pieces such as The Song of Music and Chicago but I don’t know many of those so I can’t give an opinion. Also Jonathan Larson and his musical Rent- superb. Checking out what’s hot in awards shows is also a good start but be wary of critics.
Hopefully, I managed to answer your question in this exceedingly long essay.
