We all know existential dread, but I propose (and please tell be if this is already a thing) existential awe.
Sometimes when I handsew or weave or something I get this immense feeling of connection to humanity. People for thousands of years all over the world have sat down and sewn a garment. Archeologists find needles and awls all the time. When I'm tablet weaving I have the same frustration at the arduous process of threading the tablets as the person 2600 years ago must have felt when they made the bands that were found in a celtic man's burial mount not far from my home. They probably also felt their back after a few hours of this.

Anyway, here's what I'm working on right now

Hand for scale
This pattern is fun and I'd like to try it on some thicker yarn for something really blocky. I'm starting to get into the rhythm of an even beat, but it's tricky with such thin, high contrast yarn because everything stands out so much.
8/2 cotton at 22 epi for some Christmas dish towels. When I do this again, I'll do 24 epi because the thread is finer than I realized. Truthfully, I misrememberd the size we used for the class I took in the spring and just...did not verify before ordering. Oh well! I'm curious about how these will wash up-- so far I'm worried they're too fine to feel very towel-y. But I've got a whole bunch now so I guess I'll just have to figured something out! I think the next thing I will try is a waffle texture. I'm thinking that'll help make the towels thicker and more substantial.
Here's my sampling section:

It turns out that all the patterns for the towels I planned to weave on this warp just do not work the way I was hoping. The birdseye and zigzag are fine, but I have to go back to the drawing board on this one.

Woven from undyed wool from heritage sheep breeds (Kainuu grey & Finnsheep) and coffee dyed Finnsheep wool using clasped weft- technique
The question I’ve gotten most about this blanket is that is it an art piece or a usable blanket. I reject the notion that it can’t be both. I inherited some handspun wool late last year - the warmer grey yarn and coffee dyed portions of the blanket - and wanted to do something special with it to pay a homage to the crafter who spun the yarn (and other very beautiful things like it)

fun idea, yours for free: if you're trying to get something in the mail by a birthday, and the birthday is, say, tomorrow, and you have yet to finish or wash the object, possibly you should choose a finishing method that doesn't require you to hand twist and tie 150 bits of fringe.

100 days of art, 45/100 - another fiber arts edition because I spent for-fucking-ever on this today.
But! It's done!
This is a simple plainweave scarf woven from handspun yarn on a rigid heddle loom - a pretty wild mixture of merino, polwarth, silk and yak hair. It's only about 5'4 or 5'5 long because I did a shit job at measuring the warp and it's still looking a little scrungly on the photos because I took them before washing/finishing/blocking the scarf.
The blue is vanishing into the grey a bit too much for my liking, but all in all I'm pretty happy with this; despite the length and despite the colors being on the slightly muted side. My handspun yarn behaved perfectly and was honestly more forgiving than the store-bought stuff I've used, and I got the tension nice and even for the first time, despite warping the loom backwards at first and having to painfully fix my fuck-up.
On the upside, that also allowed me to lash on the warp on both ends instead of tying it, so I had... maybe three or four inches of loom waste on each side, excluding fringe.
But, yeah, project done; now to crank out the next batch of yarn. There's a sample I've been itching to spin, and after that I'm looking at a couple fun bulk projects that I'll enjoy telling y'all about when the time comes.

Behold these 5,5m of adorable sheep band! Tablet woven on my amazing new loom. 5,5m! That's 6 yards! Absurd! My old loom didn't manage half of that. Totally worth the back pain.
