I’m Valerie! I’m a college student who’s been working on this one story since I was 15. I’m 20 now. It’s called mindscape. Here’s the leave behind I wrote for a class:

Mindscape is a psych horror following the lives of the psychologists and interns who work at the Crisis Elimination Clinic. Patients are admitted into the CEC in place of a baker act where their minds are literally gone into by interns, psychedelic style. The game takes place in 2045, exploring the psyches, or mindscapes, of various patients. A strong focus is on the interns and the psychologists, and how they feel concerning their roles at this corrupt clinic.

I really care about this story and honestly leaving asks and engaging would make my day. Genuinely. I actually adore thinking about this and talking about this so I thought I’d finally make all of this its own blog. I’ll be reblogging my posts from my main about this for organizational purposes.

Day 3: Ethnology and War

The first two days were mere warm-ups. Today the real “program” began. I started the day by meeting Trung (“Tony”) Nguyen who, for the next three days in Hanoi will be my “personal guide, translator, and photographer” (his words, not mine). Tony’s 37 but he barely looks 18. He says I don’t look my age either, but I think he’s just being polite.

Our first visit was to the Tran Quoc pagoda, Hanoi's oldest pagoda, which is located on a small island in West Lake. Unlike Japanese pagodas, which typically have five levels, Vietnamese pagodas can be of any size whatsoever. The Tran Quoc pagoda has eleven levels, each with its own statue of the Buddha.

Next, we headed to the Vietnam Ethnology Museum, which seeks to preserve the culture of all 54 different ethnic groups that are found in Vietnam. The Kinh or Viets are by far the largest group, accounting for roughly 85 percent of the population. But the others all have their own dialects, styles of dress, traditions, and forms of housing. Behind the ethnology museum is a large park where many examples of these houses appear. Some of them are stilt houses, the raised platforms providing protection from floods and, when necessary, wild animals.

After lunch, we went to the complex dedicated to Ho Chi Minh, the nation's founder who’s routinely and affectionately referred to as “Uncle Ho”. The complex includes Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, modeled on Lenin’s tomb,

the Presidential Palace,

the small stilt house where Ho actually lived,

and the One Pillar Pagoda, built in 1049 of wood attached to a single stone pillar, creating the shape of a lotus blossom.

The day concluded with a tour of the Vietnam Military History Museum, documenting the almost continuous warfare experienced by the Vietnamese since 179 B.C. when the country was first invaded by China. Many of the individual battles fought against the French and the Americans are presented in lavish detail, with rows of lights indicating troop movements and skirmishes. The outdoor area is filled with tanks, helicopters, airplanes, and various large weapons.

Tired as I was by the end of the day, I climbed the Flag Tower of Hanoi which is also on the museum’s grounds and serves as one of the symbols of the capital city. For example, it appears on the 1985 series of Vietnamese currency, ranging from notes of 5 hao to ten đồng. (The lao is no longer issued, and the currency now in use was first issued in 2003.)

CTS B | Week 1 - Creative Practice and Critical Thinking

One similarity of critical thinking and creative practices is that they can start off from a tiny idea or emotion, and it grows with flexible thinking. 

Critical thoughts can be creative as it allows me to expand and shift perspectives, and it allows me to express things in many ways. As an example, I can experiment with multiple solutions based on logical reasons when there is a single issue.

Opposingly, creativity can be critical too. Today in our lives many styles of artforms are perceived criticising, to an extent where some could get offended, or hurt, yet there is no pause to to critical creativity as it voices out messages. Just like how we were tasked to  tackle social issues through short texts or four cut cartoons. I view today’s activity as an extremely abbreviated and light version of what Banksy and Keith Haring have done to express their opinions. 

Today’s topic has a strong correlation to W01 Digital Skills. When it comes to UX/UI design, empathy is one of the essential skills required. For instance, a good information architecture of web designs can be obtained only when the UX designer fully puts their shoes into the users' and understanding the user experiences. This is why being able to reflect critical thoughts in a creative manner is complex yet very crucial. 

I like how criticality and creativity can be both solutions to problems. They help you to analyse situations and to solve them in more sensible, and respectful manners.

So the twins. Chi and Hao Nguyen. Chi means life force and Hao means good/perfect. Chi is dead but he still lives on in the minds of others and his impact on the story goes well beyond his “death.” I listened to next to normal and he is literally so Gabe coded. Like that wasn’t intentional but he is literally just like that. Hao is a homophone for “how,” and he is trying to investigate everything about his brother’s death. He’s also the favorite in his family. Their last name, Nguyen, means musical instrument. Chi dates Noah who’s a violinist, but there’s not much more to it than that. It’s a very common Vietnamese last name, and they are both Vietnamese. Works for me!
