Cat Rescue Chapter 1: A Tiny Mew
Sora/Kairi. Post-canon. Romance, fluff, kitten shenanigans, and nursing said kitten back to health. ~1120 words. For @angel-with-a-pipette, whose birthday is today!
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3
Tumblr media
The rain fell steadily around Sora as he wound his way through the streets of Twilight Town. Just a quick trip to the grocery store, then he and Kairi could finish making dinner and cuddle on the couch afterwards. Sometimes it was the simple things in life he treasured the most, especially the ones he got to share with her.
He grinned and did a little twirl, sending rainwater scattering from all the puddles he stepped in. Man, sometimes it didn’t feel real how he and Kairi were married. Several months in and it still felt like having a slumber party with his best friend every night. Spending every day with the person he loved more than anything—could life get any better than this?
The current weather yanked him back to reality as the stupid wind flipped his trusty umbrella inside out. He scowled and fought to fix it. Kairi had gotten him this umbrella as a present, and he wasn’t gonna let it break so soon.
There. It was finally back in the right shape and keeping him dry again—
Mew.
“Huh?” He looked around but didn’t see anything. Where had the sound come from?
Meeeeew.
He searched for the source of the plaintive little cries. Not by the candy store or by the nearby trash can. He didn’t see anything by the postbox either. Oh wait, over there. A sopping wet cardboard box was shoved against a brick building in a nearby alleyway, and in that box was a tiny black kitten. The poor kitty was soaking wet, her fur was matted, and her eyes were shut.
“Oh no, you poor thing!” He knelt by the box and held his umbrella over the kitten. She shivered and looked up at him, then let out another plaintive mew.
“Well I can’t just leave you like this,” he said, then reached into the box to scoop up the kitten one-handed. She was so small that that actually worked, and he carefully tucked her inside his jacket to keep her warm. Another pitiful mew, this time muffled, sounded out from within his jacket
“Don’t worry, I’ll take you someplace safe and warm,” he said, then readjusted the umbrella. One arm cradled the kitten and the other arm fought the wind via the umbrella until at last he was climbing up the steps of he and Kairi’s apartment.
They’d come to Twilight Town to study at the little college here, and one thing had led to another till they were enjoying newlywed life together. Eventually, he wanted to buy Kairi a nice big island house and move back home. But that kind of thing required munny, and he still had a lot of saving to do. A lot.
After wrestling the umbrella into a folded position, he fiddled with the keys to the apartment before giving up and summoning his Keyblade. That unlocked the apartment quickly enough, though Donald’s voice lecturing him about the world order popped into his head.
“I’m back!” he called as he took off his wet shoes and socks, then put on a pair of house slippers.
“You’re home!” Kairi called from the kitchen.
Sora couldn’t help but smile to himself. It was one thing to say those words in the hopes that they might mean something more someday. It was another altogether to say them to his wife and hear her response.
He rounded the corner into the kitchen, and she had her sleeves rolled up with her hair in a ponytail as she chopped ingredients for tonight’s soup. How was it that she looked so amazing no matter what she wore?
He kissed her cheek, and she hummed happily.
“That was fast, did you warp there and back?” she teased.
Ah drat, he’d completely forgotten about the groceries. “No, and actually, I didn’t, uh, quite make it—” he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck.
She raised an eyebrow and stopped cutting the potatoes.
“Because! Because I found this little—”
MEEEEEEEEW!
Kairi’s eyes went wide, and Sora unzipped his jacket to show her. The kitten poked her head out and mewed pitifully, and Kairi placed her hands on her knees and leaned forward to be eye level with the kitten, her eyebrows knitted together as she took in poor kitty’s soaked state.
“This is my wife, Kairi,” Sora said softly to the kitten. “Don’t be scared. She’s the kindest, warmest person you’ll ever meet.”
Kairi met his eyes, and he smiled. Her blush deepened, and she looked away and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. He loved complimenting her like this because it always made her so happy. Flustered, but happy.
The kitten mewed again, and Sora carefully readjusted her. “I found her in a cardboard box, all alone in the rain,” he explained. “So I brought her home.”
“And it’s a good thing he did, isn’t it?” Kairi said to the kitten very matter-of-factly, then straightened. “Let me grab a towel for her, then I’m gonna send you right back to the grocery store to buy a few things for her. The pet store too, I don’t know if the grocery store will have kitten formula and bottles, and cow milk just won’t quite cut it.”
“Yes ma’am. I’ll get our dinner ingredients too.”
Her expression softened. “Thank you.”
With that she disappeared into the bathroom, then reappeared a few moments later with a fluffy blue towel. Sora carefully handed her the kitten, and kitty mewed again as Kairi gently wrapped her up like a little burrito. Kairi cooed and cradled the kitten close to her chest, and the kitten closed her blue eyes and started purring. Sora thought he was gonna melt into a puddle right then and there, seeing Kairi be so caring and… and maternal to the kitty. She looked at him and smiled, and it was his turn to get flustered.
“What?” she said, tilting her head.
“Nothing, you just…”
“I just what?”
He rubbed the back of his neck. They didn’t have enough munny to start a family yet, plus they were still really young. Didn’t have a house either, just this one bedroom apartment and big dreams. He knew all that, and yet… Seeing Kairi like this made him wish they did have enough munny, that they did have a house and more than just big dreams.
“Sora?” she asked, searching his face as she gently cuddled the kitten.
He planted a gentle kiss on her cheek. “I’m glad I married you,” was all he said. He didn’t want to pressure her or anything.
“I’m glad you married me too,” she said, a playful lilt to her voice. “Now go get this kitty some formula.”

A revolution: until then rap lyrics about racism, bullying, poverty and medicines in a semantic spectrum from rebellion to victimhood. NWA is as tough and violent, but in their texts there is no place with the exception of the apology of the hoodlum life: more punks I smoke, yo my rep gets bigger> >, punctuating Mc Ren on the title track: get rid of it plus my reputation increases. The disc is a national matter. The LAPD calls on group to calm down, worrying that pieces like "Tube when police " was the soundtrack to a riot-as in fact there will be, in 1992, following the Rodney King conquering to death, another history. RAP lovers, but was also considering what the accompanying RHYMES: beats more strict and choice of basis-that drawing from the seventy 's funk by Legislative house, Funkadelic, until famous small 5: 35 of the Funky Drummer by David Brown which did the foundation of rap-1085 items is a trademark by Doctor Dre. NWA implode within a few years. First Ice Dice and then Dr. Dre left the group in polemic with Eazy Elizabeth and Jerry Heller, convinced-probably with great reason that the two are stealing money. Mutual insults, battles of the war begins. Although above all, Dr. Dre, commences a new level musical. In 1992, collectively with Marion "Suge" Knight-more questionable character-based Death Line records went and released his solo debut The Chronic, still regarded as a cornerstone of hip hop. Compared to the Nwa changes everything: a slower-paced, hypnotic groove, male voices in the back. From the ashes of gangsta reputation, G-Funk was born and is also another revolution that brings with it new interpreters. Warren G, that of Dre's stepbrother. Snoop Puppy Dogg, hacking with Dre's "nothing but a" G "thang ", a chiaro of sorts. And especially Tupac Shakur, undisputed full of rap on the West coast until her violent and untimely end. Behind their successes, always the same hand, with Dr. Dre. And at the rear of the hand that is, more or less 20 million records sold in only 1995. La call the golden era, the golden age of Californian rap, nevertheless they are also years of blood. Tupac passes away in Las Vegas in 1996, shot down with a flurry of photographs as well as months later the same fate touches in his great rival, the New Yorker fate Notorius B. I. G. The moment this happens, Dr. Dre has recently left Death Line, Suge Knight and hot debate with partner founded his own lay-flat eselskab, Wake. For the three 12 months delay doing work in the wake up of the chronic but not satisfied and regularly release.Because this is Dr. Dre, basically: a tailor who creates custom products Creative crisis? Most likely. But if you think the parable of Doctor. Dre's downhill, but you are incredibly wrong. Is in 1997, where Chief Jimmy Iovine, Interscope's garage-the sticker if after effects is a subsidiary-find a trial. In order to compromise it, a white artist from Detroit named Marshall Mathers, but calling him or her self Eminem, or Slim Questionable. His rhymes are sick and tired, psychotic. In him, Dre misses and also the epic gangsta of Nwa, nor abuse, but a paranoid Tupac mix creepy between paradox and despair, introspection and social satire.Sniffing success, Dr. Dre, convinces Iovine put him under agreement and built around a sound that had never heard before. Guitars and rock drums, harpsichords, alarms build healthy texture now farcical now tragic that on rhymes from Eminem fits like a suit of tailoring. Because this is Dr. Dre, essentially: a tailor who creates custom-made products, not someone like Pharrell or Timbaland or Kanye West who leave marks on everything they produce.The relationship between the two is one of the most successful in the record of rap, not least, to put in several like 30 million clones sold with just four albums, two of which-The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show-is located on the second and third place best vendors rap ever album graphs. If we add several. 6 million copies sold in 2001, the second album by Doctor Dre, who finally sees the light in 1999, and 8 million of "get rich or die tryin" 50 cent, Eminem, with comprodotto we are almost 50 million records sold in just over five years.

Wayne Paul McCartney was given birth to 18. June 1942 in Liverpool England. His family live near Allerton simply a mile from the home of John Lennon. The two, who met at a party the same parish quickly become friends, share his passion of music. The first thought then, as happens every self-respecting teen dream, is to form a group and so they were immediately put to work to accomplish this ardent desire. Basically it can be said that in these distant start formed the core of the future Beatles, if we believe it is soon co-opted George Harrison and later, drummer Ringo Starr. Shaped in ' 56 this group of beardless males will be the Beatles in 1960. Personalities of three are differentiated enough, although, naturally, some elements are leaning more to the offence while others are more balanced; being the case with centered Paul straight away with the composition of the kind of poignant lyrical music, there will be a characteristic feature. In addition to the serious musician and performer how much keep in mind the pure instrumental music, especially technical aspect, which soon will be, from a simple bass player, a true musician, dares himself with guitar and some with keyboards. This means that another highlight in music performer McCartney is the wedding. Of the four then Paul is without a question the most angelic that I believe appeal to mothers and girls from good families. He will keep the press relations, working with public relations and fan, in contrast to the picture worn and worn, there would always misunderstood genius and "banded". Needless to say, this is the time when the other genius of the Quartet, John Lennon, will sign his most memorable songs; many of the most memorable tunes of "cockroaches" (this is the meaning of the beatles in Italian), is actually signed by both. Are pieces, where even today fans argue over who is going to be critical contributions: If perhaps Paul or John. The facts lies somewhere in the Middle, or in other words that both were major talents, which thankfully has lavished plenty for the Beatles ' eternal glory. However, it should not be forgotten that the greatest album of the English Quartet, the album, which was considered to be the greatest rock ie ever written, "Sgt Pepper", is essentially the work of Paul. In the middle of all this, but a term shopping for George Harrison, talent by no means despicable and there would in fact also justifies the term "genius". Location of the Beatles was what it was and it is useless to trace here the glories of the greatest group ever existed. Go here, however, recalled that during the parable descendant, is profit on McCartney if went to port jobs are designed to try to revive the luck of the Group; including the film "Magical Mystery Concert tours " or as the documentary truth " very well "Let it be". In addition, it must be definitely recalled Paul's insistence because the band selected to perform live. But by the end of the Beatles was close by and no person could do anything about it... 12 March 1969 in fact Paul marries Bela Eastman and log changes in their lives. Since a beatle, gives enthusiasts one last big test on the album "Abbey Road" (1969), but in December of that 12 months he announced his giving the group. A few months after the Beatles ceases to exist. McCartney always flanked by the faithful Linda, commences a fresh career, alternating solo studies of good quality music tracks and collaborations with other musicians. One of the most enduring is that sees him surrounded by wings, he wanted in 1971-group and which, in fact, even in line with the experts, will never be much more than a simple emanation of genius Uk. His career is, nevertheless , a number of success, among Awards, Gold information, and record sales: in 1981, experience with flapping ends. Inside the years 80 Paul McCartney goes on his hot streak heading back and forth with stars like Stevie Ponder or Michael Jackson, live, and again after a long period, sings "Let it Be" in the grand ending of Bob Geldof Live Aid London, 1985. Nevertheless the real return "on stage" takes place in 1989, with a world travel for almost 12 several weeks will show you in great condition with music artists from large caliber. Intended for the first time since the break-up Mccartney perform live many of the most famous tunes by the Beatles. In 1993, " new world " tour, so the surprise: Paul, George and Ringo are assembled in the Studio in 95 to focus on two music unsolved by John, "Free as a bird" and "real love", two new Beatles song " very well after quarter of a century.

Steven says: I always like to think of the audience, when I run because I am the group ". Perhaps the secret behind one of the five masters of modern cinema. Cat Rescue Chapter 2: Caring for Kitty
Sora/Kairi. Post-canon. Romance, fluff, kitten shenanigans, and nursing said kitten back to health. ~1900 words. For @angel-with-a-pipette.
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3
Tumblr media
“This should warm you up, little one,” Kairi said as she wrapped a warm water bottle in a towel and put it next to the kitten. Sora would be back soon with the formula, but the kitten needed to be warm enough before she could be fed. Kairi had found a spare box in the closet and transformed it into a nice little nest with blankets and towels for the kitten. The poor thing couldn’t be much older than a week old. Her eyes were blue and she was struggling to keep them open, and any attempts at movement were wobbles and crawls.
Mewwwww, she said, and Kairi gently stroked her fur. “We’ll feed you soon,” she promised, “and tomorrow we’ll take you to the vet, okay?” She frowned. “I’m sorry you lost your mom, but we’ll take good care of you.”
The door to the apartment opened, and Sora called, “I’m back.” The rain was really pouring outside now, and when she went to the hall to greet him, water was dripping down his face and from his hair, and he shivered and sneezed. The bags in his arms were mostly dry though, and she took them from him and kissed his cheek.
“You’re home, and now you’re going to take a nice hot bath before you catch a cold.”
“But dinner—” he protested as he removed his squelching shoes and soaked socks.
“—can wait because I’ve already drawn you a bath,” she teased. “In the meantime, I’ll prep kitty’s food.”
His expression softened. “Okay. I’ll make it quick so I can finish chopping the veggies and get started on the soup.”
“Just so long as you’re warm.”
He grinned and ran his hand through his hair. “With you around, I always am.”
She ducked her head and giggled, then playfully nudged him. “You flirt, you’re making me want to join you in the bath.”
“That’s the idea,” he said with a wink, “but you’re a cat mom now and I’m a cat dad, and there is one very hungry kitten calling for her parents.”
As if on cue, a MEWWWWWWW sounded from the direction of the kitchen.
“Right, I need to feed her quickly, she must be starving,” Kairi said, then bustled into the kitchen with the things Sora had bought. Along with the groceries, there was kitten formula and a couple of bottles as well as a brush to clean everything with. Sora had picked up a heating lamp too, which she unboxed and plugged in to keep the kitten warm. Then she grabbed a scale to weigh the formula powder with, a funnel to get the powder into the bottle, and a couple of pans to sterilize and heat the bottles. Next she cut an “X” in the tip of the nipples with scissors and tested each one of them to make sure they were the right size.
She’d worked for the vet clinic back home, and her hard-earned knowledge was serving her well here.
Time to sterilize the bottles. She filled the first pan with water and added them, then turned on the heat till the water was boiling. Next she checked the formula container and measured out the right amount of powder with the little plastic measuring cup that came with the formula, then used the funnel to lower the powder into one of the bottles and added water.
“Okay, now I’ve gotta heat this up,” she said, then filled the other pan with warm water and placed the bottle in it. As she waited for it to warm up, she went to their bedroom to find one of Sora’s old, oversized t-shirts to put over her clothes while she fed the kitty.
As she pulled it over her head, she felt his arms go around her. “Boo,” he said, his voice playful as he hugged her close.
“Did that bath warm you up?” she asked with a giggle, the t-shirt only halfway down her head.
“Mhmmmm,” was his response as he helped her get the t-shirt pulled down the rest of the way. “Thank you for that. But I can think of something else that would warm me up even more…”
“You or me?” she teased. “You’re the one who’s as warm as a space heater when you’re not soaking wet from the rain.”
“Both of us,” he said, very seriously even while his eyes danced.
She giggled again. “Put on some clothes you goofball, you’ll catch a cold if you wander around the apartment in just a towel.”
He scratched his cheek and sighed dramatically. “Well, you see, you stole the shirt I was gonna wear tonight, and I assume it’ll forever be used to feed our cat child with…”
She reached into their drawers and pulled out another t-shirt, a pair of boxers, and pajama pants, then tossed the clothes at him. Naturally he caught them with ease.
“There,” she said. “Now get dressed, I have a kitten to feed and you have some soup to finish making.”
“Yes ma’am,” he said with a grin, already pulling the shirt over his head.
Kairi went to check on the bottle, and it was warm enough now. Kitten was warm enough too thanks to the towel, blankets, and heat lamp. Kairi washed her hands and gently lifted kitten out of her nest. Mewwww, mewwwww, came the kitten’s voice, and Kairi smiled and said, “I know, you won’t be hungry for much longer.”
She set kitten on her tummy and grabbed the bottle, then gently opened kitty’s mouth and moved the bottle closer. Kitty latched onto the bottle and began feeding, and Kairi smiled.
“There you go, that’s much better, isn’t it?” she said softly, and kitty kneaded her tiny paws on the towel as she drank from the bottle. A few droplets of formula dribbled down her chin because she was feeding so eagerly.
“She’s precious,” Sora said from behind Kairi. “I think I’m gonna melt from cuteness overload.”
“Yeah,” Kairi said, smiling softly at the kitten. She glanced at Sora, who was looking at the kitten with the most adorable expression on his face. “Here, watch how I feed her so you can try next time,” she told him. “She’s so little we’ll probably have to feed her every 2-3 hours for several days.”
“Oh man, we’re not gonna sleep much tonight, are we? It’s like having an actual baby.”
She smiled. “Guess it’s good practice for the future then, huh?”
Sora was silent, and her smile got bigger. “Don’t think I haven’t noticed you staring at me when I’ve held this kitten like you’re imagining I’m holding a baby instead. And I’ve caught you staring at the baby aisle in the grocery store and at every family we pass that has kids too.”
He rubbed the back of his neck and chuckled sheepishly. “Sorry.”
“Don’t be,” she said, carefully adjusting kitty’s bottle so that it was still at the right angle. “It’s only natural to plan for the future, and it’s been obvious for a while now that you’ve got baby fever,” she teased.
“Maybe I do,” he mumbled. “But that can all wait a few more years.”
“It can,” she said softly, “but sometimes life springs these little surprises on you,” she said, indicating kitty. “Let’s just take things one day at a time.”
“Right.” Sora was silent again as he watched her feed the kitten.
“Grab that towel for me, will you?” she said presently. “I think she’s about done, and then I’ll need to burp her.”
Bubbles were forming around her mouth, and her little tummy was very round now. A successful feeding, and so Kairi burped her and took care of other things before putting her to bed. Soon kitty was fast asleep, fed and warm and content.
“Look at her,” Sora said as he peered into her box, two bowls of soup in his hands. “She’s purr-fect.”
Kairi giggled as she cleaned up the mess she and kitty had made. “She is. Our little bundle of joy.”
“Purrito,” he said as he set the bowls on the table. “You wrapped her up in that towel like a little burrito earlier and she was purring and it was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Her name is Purrito.”
Kairi giggled again and took the feeding t-shirt off, carefully placing it in a pile next to kitty’s box. “That can be her nickname. As for her actual name… hmmmm, let’s see.” She thought back, back to a specific memory and had just the idea. “You know, when she’s all grown up, her eyes will likely be yellow. Black cat, yellow eyes, what does that remind you of?”
He raised an eyebrow. “You can’t be serious. We are not naming our cat after the Heartless—”
“Not the Heartless, you,” she said, gently poking his chest. “When you turned into a Heartless to save me. That’s what she reminds me of.”
“You thought I was this cute and helpless?” he asked, crossing his arms and faking a pout. His eyebrows gave him away though—they were going crazy as they tried to capture his sass.
She bit her lip, her mouth twitching. “I mean, you kinda were, all the other Heartless were ganging up on you…”
“And then you saved me,” he said, a soft smile on his face as he brushed a stray strand of hair behind her ear. “Thank you.”
She smiled and cupped his cheek. “My pleasure,” she said softly, then kissed him. “And for the record,” she murmured into his ear afterwards, “you were cute and helpless then, but you are anything but now.”
She smiled and winked, and he wrapped his arms around her and kissed her this time. It was a very nice kiss, and if it weren’t for their bowls of soup and growling stomachs, they would’ve continued. But they were both very hungry and the soup was just the thing to sate their appetites, so it was time for dinner.
Afterwards, Sora grabbed the spare futon from the closet and spread it out on the floor in the living room. They were gonna have to wake up often to feed kitty, so might as well be close to the kitchen and all the necessary supplies. Plus, this way they could check on her easily without disturbing her nest. The steady pattering of rain sounded outside their apartment as Kairi spread blankets over the futon and grabbed a couple of pillows. Sora lit a fire in the fireplace to make things cozy, then started a pillow fight that wound up with them rolling around together in a heap of giggles.
He neatly pinned her arms down and said, “I win,” a triumphant grin on his face as he hovered over her. He was so warm, and her heart thudded in her chest as she tried to catch her breath… both from the pillow fight and from their current position.
Thankfully, he was as affected as she was. His pupils dilated and his breathing grew ragged as he searched her eyes.
She smirked and licked her lips. “Oh really? Whatcha gonna do about it?”
“Kiss you as much as I want,” he murmured, then did just that. Kairi sighed and held him close. Life sometimes threw them curveballs, but sometimes they were very adorable curveballs, like being unexpected parents to a tiny but insistent little kitten.

Cat Rescue Chapter 3: Kageko
Sora/Kairi. Post-canon. Romance, fluff, kitten shenanigans, and nursing said kitten back to health. ~1015 words. For @angel-with-a-pipette.
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3
Tumblr media
Sunlight poured through the windows. Spring had come again, and a day of rain yesterday meant a morning of glorious sun today. Sora and Kairi would have to enjoy the nice weather while it lasted, but first things first: Kageko’s scrapbook project.
Kairi had won in the end with wanting to name their kitty after his Heartless form, though they’d settled on a much cuter name than “Heartless” or “Darkness.” She was Kageko, or “Shadow Child,” and Sora thought the name suited her well. She loved to play and pounce and lurk and linger, just like their own cute little shadow, and he couldn’t imagine life without her. Purrito of course was still her nickname for special occasions.
It had been one year since Sora had found her in that box in the alley, so now it was time to commemorate her first birthday. He grinned as he went through the stack of photos on the kitchen table. There was the one of Kairi feeding a baby Kageko, who had her little paw on Kairi’s hand as she drank from the bottle. Milk dribbled down her tiny chin and down Kairi’s arm, but thankfully the sleeves of Kairi’s purple and pink sweatshirt were rolled up, and her bangs were pinned out of the way. The ingredients and tools used to make Kageko’s food were scattered all around, and Sora remembered taking this picture fondly.
It was amazing how much Kageko had grown since then. From being a tiny little ball of fur he could easily hold in one hand to the grownup kitty she was now.
“Here, use this one,” he said, handing Kairi the photo. She carefully placed it in her scrapbook as Kageko purred on her lap, the kitty’s yellow eyes blinking shut. She liked to just hang out with them like this after her breakfast, which was a relief given how much havoc she could wreck if she wanted to jump on top of the table and send Kairi’s scrapbook supplies flying. Wouldn’t be the first time something like that had happened.
He kept going through the photos until he stumbled on one of Kageko fast asleep on the couch. She was bigger and older than in the photo of Kairi feeding her, and her cute whiskers stuck out every which way and her little cat face was smooshed against the cushion. Sora smiled and handed this photo to Kairi too. Kageko was too cute when she was asleep, and the pink toe beans on her paws were adorable.
Kairi must’ve snapped this next picture of Kageko playing with one of her toys: a jingly orange and lime green ball with a bright red feather attached. The feather was proudly grasped between her teeth and the ball gripped in her paws, and she looked up at the camera from upside down and was sprawled out on her back. Her big yellow eyes looked inquisitively at the camera—she was no longer the tiny kitten with blue eyes she’d been when they’d first found her.
“I swear this cat’s a model or something, she knows exactly how to pose,” Sora said as he handed the photo to Kairi and paused to give Kageko head scritches. “She’s way more photogenic than me, that’s for sure.”
“You sure about that?” Kairi teased, then pulled out a photo from the stack to show him. He was napping on the couch, snoring with his mouth wide open and a slightly disgruntled expression on his face. Of course he was drooling too. Kageko was curled up on top of him with her butt in his face and her tail draped over his head. Not the first time she’d pulled this stunt and certainly wouldn’t be the last, either. Her pink collar was around her neck with the tiny crown charm that matched his necklace, an addition Kairi had added herself. And on the left side of the photo was Kairi, a huge grin on her face and her finger in front of her lips as she snuck the stealth selfie.
“Wait, when did you take this?” he asked. Her hair was pulled into a cute low braid, and he was trying to remember when she’d last worn it like that. Uh, maybe last week sometime? Yeah, that sounded about right—
“Not telling~” she said in a singsong voice, then burst into giggles as he raised an eyebrow. “Sorry, I had to, you just had the funniest look on your face and Kageko was too cute and loves her dad very much.” She pointed at Kageko in the photo. “Look at her, she even has her mouth open and is drooling like you. Like father, like daughter.”
Sora shook his head and grinned. “Yeah, I guess she does take after me. Lazy bum of a cat,” he said and rubbed her head as she purred louder. “Little Purrito, though you’re not so little anymore, are you?”
She meowed amiably. Some cats didn’t meow that often, but Kageko was very talkative. That hadn’t changed since her tiny kitten days.
“Sooo, this photo’s going in the scrapbook, you know that, right?” Kairi said, a smirk on her face as she snatched the photo and turned to a new page.
“Yeah, fine, but so is that one where she’s still tiny and clinging to you.”
Kairi carefully applied glue to the photo of Kageko asleep on top of him. “Deal, though I do think I’m getting the better end of the bargain.”
Sora shook his head. “Nah, I think I am.” He held the photo in question and smiled softly. The adorableness of Kageko, the beautiful, candid smile on Kairi’s face as he snapped the picture… the way she was looking right at him as she cared for this once tiny, helpless kitten… he could melt into a puddle every time he looked at this photo. Especially imaging what the future might have in store for them.
Every day he was grateful he got to spend the rest of his life with her, and Kageko was such a wonderful addition to their little family.

Lifeline
Sora/Kairi. Post-canon. Heavily inspired by Percy Jackson and Percabeth in particular. Slight Angst, Romance, Fluff. ~3420 words. For @angel-with-a-pipette, whose birthday is today!
Tumblr media
Sora stared at the river in front of him. Its waters were dark and murky, and the last thing he wanted to do was jump in. A river whose name sounded the same as a pile of sticks shouldn’t be so creepy, right? But it was, and there was only one reason he was here. Herc had told him bathing in this river would make him almost completely invulnerable… if he survived the plunge.
After causing his friends grief for over a year, invulnerability sounded pretty good. He couldn’t abandon them again. He couldn’t. Especially not Kairi. The tear sliding down her cheek as he faded away was an image that would forever be seared into his heart and burned into his brain. It drove him to act, to spare her from further pain down the road.
Still, a shiver went down his spine as he watched the churning waters. This wasn’t the first time he’d been to the Underworld, but before he’d had people with him. Now he was all alone because this was the kind of thing that had to be done alone.
As he took his shoes and socks off, Herc’s words from before echoed through his mind. “Careful, Sora. The river Styx makes you forget. It makes you lose yourself. Your heart has to be stronger than it or you’ll be washed away.”
“My heart is strong because of them,” Sora murmured as he removed his jacket and set it next to his shoes and socks. He was even colder without it here in this dark, damp cavern, but he hadn’t grown up on a world full of islands for nothing. Anything that might make it harder for him to swim had to go. He kept his thoughts on his friends, and that distracted him from his discomfort.
“You’ll need an anchor, a lifeline,” Herc had said. “A spot on your body that connects you to the mortal realm. It’ll be your only weakness, but it’ll keep you human.”
Sora took off his tank top and thought carefully. There was that statue he’d knocked over in Thebes by hitting its heel. Of some famous guy named Achilles was it? Yeah, that sounded right. According to Meg, Achilles had done the same thing Sora was about to do—he’d bathed in the river Styx. His only weakness was his heel, and someone had shot an arrow at it during battle, so he’d died.
“Not gonna make that my weakness,” Sora said, chuckling nervously. “Too obvious.”
Any spot on his limbs was out of the question, as his arms and legs were constantly exposed to danger as he fought. That left somewhere on his head, which was also a bad idea, given his enemies’ tendency to target it, or his torso.
His pants joined his pile of clothes, leaving him in nothing but his swim trunks. He had this stupid idea, this ridiculous, dumb idea about where his weak spot should be. It was his weakest spot, after all, and maybe his enemies would hear about his invulnerability and think he couldn’t possibly be stupid enough to let this be his one weakness. They’d target him everywhere but the most obvious place of all.
He took a step closer to the river and stared into its murky depths. What would it feel like to jump in? Would it hurt? Would it feel weird? The longer he stared, the more uneasy he grew. Well, better act now before losing his nerve. Otherwise he might not go through with this.
Taking a deep breath, he steeled himself and plunged into the water. Instantly he regretted this entire plan. Instead of feeling wet or cold, his body felt like it was on fire, burning from the inside out with nothing to stop it.
“Sora! The river will turn you to ashes if you’re not careful!” came Herc’s panicked voice, but it seemed so far away.
No kidding! Sora wanted to yell, but he couldn’t speak. He couldn’t breathe.
Naminé’s scared face appeared in his mind. “Sora, hold on to your memories!”
I’m trying! Sora wanted to say, but even as he responded, he felt them start to slip away, like grains of sand pouring out of his hands.
“You make a good Other.”
Roxas—
Wait, who was Roxas? Sora panicked and struggled and thrashed, his lungs burning. He couldn’t remember. He didn’t know who… who…
“Giving up already? C’mon, ----, I thought you were stronger than that.”
His mouth opened in a wordless cry. He couldn’t remember who was speaking to him. He couldn’t even remember his own name. It was all gone. He was falling, falling into darkness. It engulfed him and consumed him, and maybe it would be best to just let it swallow him whole. Then he could fall into an endless sleep. Rest for all eternity.
Rest, that was what he needed. He was so tired… so tired of fighting… Sleep sounded good… He was floating now…
“Sora!”
His soul flew back into his body and his heart thundered in his chest. That voice. He knew that voice. His eyes flew open, and she was leaning over him, a big smile on her face. Her red hair was a little tousled from the ocean breeze, and her violet eyes were shining.
“Kairi!”
“Sora, you lazy bum,” she greeted in return. Her melodic voice was full of affection for him, and warmth pulsed through his heart and body with every note. The hot island sun beat down on them both, and he could hear the waves rhythmically pounding against the shore.
“Still snoozing after all this time.” She giggled into her hand, his favorite Kairi giggle. “What did I tell you about falling asleep everywhere?”
He scratched his cheek. “Sorry.”
“It’s okay,” she said softly. “I’ll always be there to wake you up.” She offered her hand, a tender smile on her face. “Remember who your lifeline is.”
His eyes went wide and his lips parted. “It’s you, of course it’s you. You’re my strength, my anchor to my humanity, my light in the darkness.”
The tiny spot on his chest where the Keyblade of Heart had first pierced his body flashed, and for a moment he saw the cord that connected him to Kairi. It was thin but sturdy, red as blood, and it came from his heart and connected him to her heart. He grabbed her hand, and she pulled him up, up, up out of the darkness. His memories came back to him in a flood, and he staggered out of the river. He gasped for air and rested his hands on his knees, glad to be alive.
Kairi wasn’t there, but the burning was gone. The pain was gone. His ordeal was over, and he’d come out stronger for it. He touched the tiny spot on his chest, his one weakness. His greatest strength.
“Kairi, thank you,” he murmured, his heart beating out a steady rhythm. The part of him responsible for keeping him alive, vulnerable despite all its power, was in Kairi’s hands now.
He knew he could trust her to keep it safe.
~~~
Kairi’s training with Aqua had paid off; she finally felt like she was helping Sora instead of acting as a burden or a liability.
Still, this battle was tough. She wiped her sweaty forehead as she and Sora regrouped behind a pile of stones. They were fighting another one of those masked people. The Foretellers, Ven called them. They had darkness trapped inside their hearts, and fighting them was the only way to defeat that darkness and free them.
This Foreteller wore yellow and gray robes with a leopard mask. They’d tracked him down to the ruins of an ancient palace that the sprawling jungle of this world was trying to reclaim. Kairi wondered about the people who used to live here and when the palace had been abandoned. They’d seen nothing but animals until now, so she wasn’t even sure there were still people here except this Foreteller.
“Where’s Ava?” the Foreteller cried from his perch on a crumbling wall. “Where is she?”
His Keyblade was gripped tightly in his hand. Kairi thought it looked like a series of lightning bolts strung together, and the keychain with its creepy blue eye hadn’t escaped her notice either. Nor had the darkness seeping off of him.
Sora stepped out from their hiding place. “Ava, is that one of your friends? What’s your name?”
He panted for breath, his body coiled up like a spring and his hand shaking a little. Kairi knew he was bracing himself for the battle to continue even though he was trying diplomacy first.
“Gula,” the stranger snapped, “but what does that matter to you!”
Before Sora could react, Gula charged. Normally, Kairi wouldn’t be worried. Sora was invulnerable now, and he was an incredibly skilled fighter. When he was with her, she had no doubt that they would win, that he would keep her safe, that they would succeed.
Until now. Panic struck her gut like the lightning bolts on Gula’s Keyblade. Her heart thundered in her ears as time slowed down around her. Sora was in grave, mortal danger. She wasn’t sure how, she wasn’t sure why, but she knew he was. Taking a deep breath, she latched onto her connection to him, a small red cord that bound them together. She was now his eyes, his hands, his heart, his body. She controlled his arm and held out his Keyblade, guarding his heart just in the nick of time, and Gula’s Keyblade clashed into his with a loud clang.
“You leave him alone!” she shouted, her heart fully in control of Sora’s body now. “I won’t let you hurt him!”
All her grief over losing Sora had transformed into blind rage and an uncontrollable urge to protect him at all costs. She wouldn’t let him die. She wouldn’t. Gula would have to destroy her heart first, destroy her, before he could hurt Sora.
To her shock, Gula’s mouth dropped open, and his Keyblade slipped from his grasp. He looked as if he’d seen a ghost.
“You sound… Just like her.”
Kairi tilted her head. “Huh?” By ‘her,’ did he mean—
“Kairi, I wanna talk to him too,” she sensed Sora telling her. But by the time she’d relinquished her hold and her heart had returned to her body, Gula had already disappeared into a swirl of dark smoke. She was still sitting behind the pile of rocks, as her body had waited patiently for her heart to return.
“That was dangerous,” Sora said as he rounded the corner. His eyes were wide and his face was ashen, and his hand shook a little as he helped her to her feet.
“I know, I know, I’m not supposed to do that when my body could be left vulnerable.” She brushed off her skirt. “But you were in danger. How? I thought you were supposed to be invincible.”
“I am. Mostly. But I have one weakness. One small weakness that’s the price to pay for being almost immortal. I had to choose it when I bathed in the river Styx.”
She searched his face, then noticed he was resting his hand over his heart.
“Your heart? Your heart is your weakness?”
He chuckled nervously and scratched his cheek. “Well, more like one tiny spot over it—”
“You dummy!” she cried, and he grimaced. She couldn’t believe he would choose a spot over his heart as the only place he could get killed. “What on earth were you thinking? You picked the most vulnerable organ in your body to be the one place our enemies can kill you? Why?!
“I needed an anchor point,” he said softly. “A lifeline.”
Her lips parted. This lifeline he spoke of, was it that red cord she’d seen? She thought that was because they’d shared the paopu fruit, but maybe there was more to it now.
“My greatest weakness,” he continued, “but also my greatest strength.” He smiled tenderly and cupped her cheek. “Something that’ll keep me human, that’ll connect me to the Realm of Light. Or should I say, someone. It’s you, Kairi. You’re my lifeline.”
A soft cry escaped her, and a lump built in her throat.
“Me? But I—”
She took a deep, ragged breath. Sora just smiled and caressed her face. How could he be so calm in light of all of this?
“Your heart is your weakness because of me?” she choked out.
“Well, I guess I could’ve picked any part of my body, but my heart made the most sense. It just felt right.”
“How come?” she pleaded, barely above a whisper.
His gaze was tender and his expression vulnerable as he looked her straight in the eye. “I pierced my heart for you before,” he said softly, “and I would do it again.”
She teared up and threw her arms around him. Hugging him always felt amazing, and he wrapped his arms around her and held her tight.
“Oh, Sora,” she murmured into his shoulder. “I’ll make sure you never have to hurt yourself for my sake again.”
He was silent for a few moments before he responded. “I know you will,” he finally said, his voice low, an echo of the words she’d told him as fate had torn them apart. Had it really been nearly three years ago? It felt like an entire lifetime ago.
“Someone has to,” she said, squeezing him as tightly as she dared. “Only you would go to all the trouble of making yourself invulnerable while still keeping your biggest vulnerability.”
He chuckled. “Classic me, isn’t it? Doing something stupid and reckless to show you how I feel about you.” He kissed the top of her head and murmured, “But I mean it, Kairi. My heart’s yours. I just thought I’d make it official.”
She pulled away from him a little and gazed up into his eyes. “And I’ll always protect what’s mine.” She smiled, a bittersweet smile, and found his hand. “Come on, let’s go somewhere safer and regroup for now. Gula’s long gone. We’ll have to track him to a different world.”
Besides, there was something she wanted to do for Sora, something she’d learned during her training with Aqua that she wanted to put into practice.
A way to fulfill her vow that he needed now more than ever.
~~~
They found a cave to shelter in for the night, and it was a good thing too, because it was pouring down rain in the jungle now. Sora got a fire started and set his jacket next to it to dry, and Kairi likewise had her dress drying too. She was in her tank top and shorts as she snacked on some nuts and berries they’d found, looking relaxed and at peace.
She was beautiful, sitting in the light of the fire like this. He couldn’t stop staring at her.
“Um, Sora,” she asked presently, her cheeks flushing as she studied her toes. “There’s something I’d like to do for you.”
Heat creeped up his cheeks too. “Oh yeah? What is it?”
“Take off your tank top, please,” she said shyly.
He gulped. She’d never asked him to do that before. There were certain unspoken barriers they hadn’t crossed yet, and undressing in front of her would definitely be toeing the line. She’d seen him without a shirt plenty of times of course, but that was at the beach. This was different. This was undressing at her request.
“Don’t worry, it’s not what you think,” she said, then giggled into her hand. He couldn’t fight the sinking feeling in his stomach, and that made her giggle even harder. “What, were you hoping it was?”
“Don’t tease me,” he said with a pout, his face hot. He leaned against the cavern wall, arms crossed as he tried in vain to stay irritated with her.
She cuddled up next to him, and he just had to raise an eyebrow.
“This ‘isn’t what I think it is,’ but you tell me to start taking my clothes off, and now you’re cozying up to me?”
She grinned and tugged at the fabric of his tank top. “Want me to take it off instead?”
Great, now he was really blushing. Kairi laughed as he fumbled with the fabric and got the tank top off. He wadded it up and tossed it into the corner, and she just shook her head and retrieved it. She set it out by the fire to dry, then smiled at him. Her gaze lingered for a few seconds, flickered up and down, taking him in.
Then she returned to his side, and when he held his arms out, she sat on his lap and they embraced. He had to admit that this felt really, really good.
“There, that wasn’t so bad, was it?” she said softly, playing with his hair.
He shook his head. “Not at all.”
She touched his chest as he gazed at her. Gentle, searching touches, though what she was looking for, Sora wasn’t sure until she landed on a particular spot. His breath caught, and she stroked it tenderly.
“There it is. Your weak spot.”
“Um, yeah.”
Her lips pulled into a tight line. “Your heart’s racing, are you okay?”
“I’m fine, I promise.” She was the one making his heart race, surely she realized that.
Her eyes fluttered shut and she murmured some kind of incantation. A soft light glowed from her chest, pulsing with her heartbeat. The red cord that bound them together appeared, and he wondered what was going on. This must be some kind of magic Aqua had taught her.
“Kairi?” he asked.
She smiled and opened her eyes. “It’s okay. This is a protection spell. Very powerful, but it’s my first time using it, so I want to make sure I get it right.”
“Protection?”
“For any weaknesses,” she explained. “It’s related to my abilities as a Princess of Heart I think. So long as I’m safe, your weak spot will be too. If I can cast this correctly, anyway.”
She bit her lip and concentrated hard, and he cupped her cheek. “Kairi…”
She traced a pattern into his skin with her finger, then leaned down and kissed his chest. His breath caught again because her lips felt amazing against his skin. Her light flooded into him from the kiss and bound itself to the weak spot, forming a barrier and shield around it.
She pulled away, eyes still closed, a blissful smile on her face. “Sora,” she said softly, and a jolt went through him as his name completed the ritual. He touched his chest, and his weak spot no longer felt like anything beyond a gentle caress would hurt him. When he removed his fingers, there was a small heart engraved on his skin as well as a series of tiny, tender letters inside it. He blushed and touched the letters, smiling as he read them.
She opened her eyes. “The Maiden’s Kiss,” she explained. “It only works on one person at a time, so I can only cast it on you. It’ll protect you from all harm so long as I’m safe.”
He lifted his hand, and she saw whose name was engraved on his chest. Her eyes went wide, and her face flushed. “Sorry, I didn’t know the spell would brand you with my name!” She bit her lip and ducked her head. “I can try to remove that—”
He put his hand under her chin and gently tilted it up so she met his gaze. “Don’t.”
She stared at him for a few seconds, her cheeks burning. “If it makes you feel any better,” she finally said, “your name is probably written over my heart now too.” She clutched her tank top. “I know something is written there, I can feel it—”
“Even if it isn’t,” he said, loosening her grasp, “I wouldn’t mind.” He brought her hand to his lips and kissed it. “I told you, my heart’s yours.”
She smiled and brushed a strand of hair out of his face. “And mine’s yours.”
His lips found hers, and he kissed her deeply. They were still trying to be discreet about their relationship around their friends, but in the privacy of this cave, they were free to indulge in the happiness they had been denied for so long.
Whatever lay ahead of them, they would always look out for each other.

His and Hers
Sora/Kairi. Post-canon. Fluff, romance, teasing, happily married life, and tacky matching t-shirts. ~2300 words. For @angel-with-a-pipette, whose birthday is today!
Tumblr media
Kairi liked collecting things. Fun things, pretty things, ridiculous things, practical things, weird things, tacky things. She also liked taking those things and making them into new things. And now that she and Sora shared a home of their own, she wanted to fill it with things that represented the two of them. Gluing thalassa shells to a picture frame she’d found at a flea market and then inserting a picture of her and Sora eating sea-salt ice cream. Making a scrapbook of photos from their wedding and setting it on the coffee table that Sora had repainted. Teaching him how to knit so they could work on a big blanket for the couch together with yarn she’d gotten from an old friend.
Sometimes, however, she found things that were perfect as they were. Today was one of those days. She was shopping for some necessities on the Main Island when she spotted the perfect things hanging proudly in front of one of the many little shops that had recently popped up. No local worth their salt would come here, but now that the Lanes Between had been opened up to commercial flight, the tourists happily would.
She giggled and covered her mouth with her hand. Two t-shirts were hanging side-by-side. One was blue with a white arrow pointing to the right, and the other was pink with a white arrow pointing to the left. The blue one said “I’m hers,” but the pink one didn’t say “I’m his,” it said, “He’s mine,” instead.
She wanted those shirts. They were ridiculous and tacky and perfect for her and Sora.
She blushed and shook her head. “No, I can’t get them, they’re completely impractical.” She started pacing back and forth. “Munny’s a little tight this month, and I promised him I wouldn’t buy any extra stuff today. What would he even think if I got these? We’d never be able to wear them in public, we’d have a good laugh and then never look at them again—”
She fetched her Gummiphone out of her purse. She’d take a picture and show him later. But right as she was about to, the phone started ringing.
“Sora?” she asked as she answered the call. “What’s up?”
“You’re still out shopping, right?”
“I am. I’m about done though.”
“Guess who had a good haul with the Heartless today.”
Her heart pounded in her chest. “You got more munny?”
Ever since she and Sora had gotten married, they’d spent less time fighting as they focused on building a life for themselves on Destiny Islands again, and that meant less munny in their bank accounts. Dropping out of school while they were still teens meant there weren’t a whole lot of job opportunities open to them, and their erratic schedules meant that most places didn’t want to hire them anyway. Sora had become a mercenary of sorts, traveling the worlds and fighting so he could still help people but also get to keep the munny the Heartless and Nobodies dropped. She went on missions of her own too, but they’d agreed that someone should be home whenever possible, and this month was her turn.
“I did,” he said, breaking her out of her thoughts. “I’m gonna talk to Uncle Scrooge about investing some of it with him like we talked about, and the rest we can put in our bank account on one condition.”
“What’s that?”
“You get something nice to treat yourself with. I know this month’s been kinda rough, and I wanna make it up to you.”
She smiled and looked at the t-shirts again. “Thank you.”
They discussed how much she could spend today, how much he would be investing with Uncle Scrooge, and how much would be going to their bank account, and then he ended the call like he always did: with a heartfelt “I love you,” which she returned in kind.
Some careful haggling on her end won her the t-shirts for only 2000 munny, and she still had leftover munny to get something else. Sora had told her to treat herself, but she wanted to treat him, too. She went to the Main Island’s department store and found a good bargain on something she knew would catch his eye.
Satisfied with the day’s purchases, she boarded the ferry to one of the smaller islands where she and Sora lived. It was bigger than the Play Island but much smaller than the Main Island, and it was their little oasis of privacy from the larger world. Their house was the only house on the whole island, and the previous owners had sold it to them for cheap because it needed so much fixing up. Kairi was proud of how good it looked now, of how much hard work she and Sora had put into it. They’d truly made it their own, and coming home to it felt wonderful.
She set the groceries on the counter and started unloading them, and she heard Sora come in when she was done with putting up all the stuff that needed refrigerating. He wrapped his arms around her from behind and sighed.
“I’m back,” he murmured as he kissed her shoulder.
“You’re home,” she said as she set the groceries down and rested her hands over his. Sharing their usual greeting like this would never get old, and she would always drop whatever she was doing to do so. He smelled so good, too, his natural scent mixed with a little sweat from exertion and the breezy smell of the beach.
“I missed you,” he said, and she could hear the pout in his voice as he kissed her neck.
She turned and faced him. “I missed you too.”
He cupped her face and kissed her, slowly and tenderly at first and then more and more passionately as she wrapped her arms around him. The groceries all but forgotten now that they were reunited, he swept her off her feet and carried her to their bedroom so they could pick up where they’d left off.
Afterwards, they cuddled and caught each other up on everything that had happened since they’d parted, then took a quick shower to cool down and clean up. Sora went around the house opening the windows to let in the late afternoon breeze after that, and Kairi returned to the kitchen to finish putting up the groceries and get dinner started.
She caught sight of today’s extra purchases again and smiled and stashed them away for later. Sora popped into the kitchen soon afterwards, and together they made dinner. Fried rice with pineapple, shrimp, chicken, and paopu fruit that they fed to each other with big goofy smiles on their faces as the sun set behind them.
It had taken a long time to reach this point, but Kairi wouldn’t trade their hard-earned life here for anything.
After they’d washed the dishes and put up the food, they cuddled on the couch as they took turns reading each other stories from a book Sora had been given on his latest travels. As Kairi finished up the most recent story, she brushed Sora’s bangs back and kissed his forehead.
“It’s good to have you back,” she said. Even though he’d only been gone a few days, it wasn’t the same without him around.
“It’s good to be home.”
He hummed happily as she played with his hair, then said, “Oh, I forgot to ask, what did you get to treat yourself?”
“Oh! I nearly forgot, too.” She untangled herself from him and went to get the bag out of the corner. “I found these at one of those new little tourist shops today, and I couldn’t say no.”
She pulled the t-shirts out of the bag and showed him, and he burst out laughing. She loved his laugh, loved how it made his entire face light up and how the sound started deep in his belly and echoed across the whole room. Soon she was giggling too, because it was impossible not to join with him. His laughter was contagious and warm and always made everything feel better.
“Kairi, they’re amazing! What a great find.”
“Right? I’ve never stumbled across clothes that suited us so well.”
She tossed the blue one to him and he held it to his body. “Yep, looks like it’s gonna fit.”
As she saw him sizing it up like he was serious about wearing it, her face flushed. “You don’t have to actually wear it, silly. I can take them back if I need to—”
“Don’t. I’m gonna wear this, and I’m gonna wear it proudly.”  He looked at her and grinned, and she felt her blush getting darker. “What? It’s true, and I’m proud I’m yours.”
She ducked her face and giggled. “I would’ve gotten one that says, ‘I’m his,’ but they didn’t have any.”
His grin turned into a smirk. “Oh, we both know the ‘He’s mine,’ shirt fits you better anyway. Don’t you even try to deny it.”
“Guilty as charged.” She giggled and reached into the shopping bag for the other thing she’d bought. “I got a little something else, too, something I think you’ll like…”
He perked up as she pretended to rustle around for it.
“I wanted to get something for you, too,” she said, “something to treat you…”
Now she really had his interest. He craned his neck to try to see into the bag, and she shook her head and hid it behind her back.
“You have to guess what it is.”
“Chocolate? Candy?”
She shook her head.
“A new project for us to work on together?”
She shook her head again.
He laughed. “C’mon, gimme a hint please,” he said, putting on his best pout paired with his best puppy dog eyes.
“Starts with an ‘L.’”
He murmured to himself, trying out various L-words, and then paused. A grin spread across his face, a mischievous, playful grin, and he wiggled his eyebrows.
“Oh, I think I know exactly what’s in there, and you’re right, it is a treat for me.” He waited for a moment, building up the tension, and then said, “You got me lemonade, didn’t you?”
She stared at him for a moment and then burst out laughing.
“Just kidding,” he said with a grin, then sprang to his feet and gave her a peck on the cheek. “I’m looking forward to seeing you wear that lingerie for me later, though,” he murmured in her ear. “Tomorrow maybe, when we’re both feeling well-rested.”
“When would you like me to wear it, exactly?” she teased. “The morning, the afternoon, the evening…”
“Surprise me.”
She followed him to the bathroom and then to bed, and they fell asleep soon afterwards. They were both tired, him from his travels, her from the day’s errands. She slept like a baby with him here; not once did she wake up in the middle of the night. It had taken a little while to adjust to sleeping together, but once they had, neither of them slept very soundly without the other.
The next morning, she woke up to an empty bed. Strange. Sora usually preferred to cuddle with her in the morning as they soaked in the sunlight and murmured sweet nothings to each other. She rolled over onto her back, only for him to burst through the door with breakfast for her. Sausage and eggs and pancakes all neatly arranged on a plate her family had gifted them.
“Morning!” he called as he set the food on one of their bedside tables. That was when she realized what he had on.
“You’re actually wearing it. You’re actually wearing the shirt,” she said with a giggle.
“Darn right I am, and you should wear yours today, too.”
“But we were planning on going to the Main Island again today.”
“Exactly.”
“You won’t be embarrassed?”
“No. It’s like I told you, I’ll be proud. How could I not be when you’re my wife? Now eat up, we’ve got a lot to do today.”
They got some really great looks from random tourists they passed by, and Sora even called a few of them out on it and offered to take pictures with them, which made everyone laugh. One couple even took them up on the offer, and Sora charmed them into taking a photo of him and Kairi on his Gummiphone afterwards.
“There, now there’s photographic evidence,” he said very seriously.
“Of what?”
“Of my beautiful wife being as charming as ever.”
They finished up the day’s errands, and once they’d gotten home and had put everything away, Sora turned to her with another one of his mischievous smiles. She knew what he was thinking, and he knew what she was thinking. And not much more needed to be said about the subject.
“Now?” was all he said as he wiggled his eyebrows.
She giggled and nodded. “Now.”
He swooped her into his arms and carried her to their bedroom, and as she did, she couldn’t help but smile. The t-shirts were fun, but the reality behind them was so much better. She and Sora were finally together, and they would always have each other. His, hers, mine, ours, the labels didn’t matter so much as the truth behind them. And because they were so serious about being with each other, they didn’t have to take themselves very seriously at all.
And all the moments of joy and playfulness and teasing that came out of their love and commitment to each other—that was the best part of all.

Where Sky Meets Sea
Today is the lovely @angel-with-a-pipette’s birthday, so I wrote her a SoKai fic to celebrate! I wanted to say a big thank you to her for all her support this past year. Happy Birthday, and I hope you (and everyone else) enjoys!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kairi had nightmares more often than not. They were always about the same two things: her death, and Sora’s. Reliving the trauma that she couldn’t prevent, over and over again. While she could fight and train during the day, the night provided no escape from the memories that still haunted her.
Heart racing, covered in a cold sweat, she woke up reaching for Sora as he slipped through her fingers. Wrapped around her was one of his old hoodies, a gift from his mother during the long months of his absence. It covered the scar on her back, which ached dully at times like this. Rolling over on her side helped a little, but doing that always made her feel open, exposed. A shudder ran down her spine, and she sat up, the blanket slipping down to gather around her legs.
The Mysterious Tower was creepy no matter the time of day, but being alone in this room, filled with shadows dancing across the walls like the shadows of the people who had kidnapped her, was a little too much. The kitchen/living room combination Yen Sid had conjured up at least had a warm, cozy fire. She went to it now and grabbed the whistling blue kettle out of the cupboard to heat up some water for tea.
Cup in hand, she curled up on the couch by the fire and watched the flickering shapes dancing around in it. Here was a horse, there was a dragon. Her head was nodding when a sound from behind her made her drop her tea and whirl around, her Keyblade appearing in her hand.
“Kairi?”
She relaxed and let her Keyblade disappear. It was Sora, his hair messy from sleep and his eyes wide from her sudden reaction. He was taller now, and thinner, too, his face more angular, though whether that was because he’d grown or because he hadn’t had enough to eat while he was gone was hard to say.
“Sorry,” she said, bending down to pick up the broken pieces of the teacup. In an instant Sora was kneeling beside her, helping her clean up the mess. His reflexes were still as good as ever.
“No, sorry for startling you,” he said. Their fingers briefly touched when they went for the same piece, and a jolt of warmth and heat went through her. She pulled her hand back, only for him to gently grasp her wrist, not at all like how Xemnas had grabbed her wrist and twisted it painfully. Her body’s panic responses were all still out of whack, though, and she tensed. Sora gave her an apologetic look as he released her hand.
“Sorry, I just… noticed you’re bleeding,” he said with a frown. A few moments later, the glow of green light reflected off his face as he healed the cut.
“Sora, you know we’re not supposed to use magic outside of battle,” she said. “You have to keep your magic reserves up.”
“I did use it during battle,” he pointed out. “You drew your Keyblade to defend yourself from what you thought was a threat.” There was a heavy look in his eyes as he fished a tissue out of his pocket and picked up the remaining broken teacup pieces. “The war’s over, but you’re still fighting.”
“I know. I can’t sleep.”
“Neither can I.”
It had only been a few days since they’d gotten him back, and he still hadn’t opened up about what all had happened while he was gone. But Kairi heard him, sometimes, as he slept. The walls were thin, and when he wasn’t shouting at some unseen enemy, he was crying out in a way that made her heart ache.
Whatever he’d seen, whatever had happened to him, was all because of her. Because he’d exchanged his life for hers. Those nightmares wouldn’t be haunting him if he’d done the sensible thing and left her for dead.
But Sora wasn’t exactly sensible. He followed his heart, and his heart had led him into the abyss. But it had also led him back to her. He’d come full circle.
They swept the floor, just to be safe, and she offered to heat up more water. Several minutes later, and they were on opposite ends of the couch, Sora with hot chocolate and Kairi with more tea. She watched as he blew cool air across the surface of his drink and then tested the liquid with the tip of his tongue to see if it was cool enough to swallow.
Despite having so much to say, Kairi found herself speechless around him. In a way, it still didn’t feel like this was real. After the initial smiles and tears and hugs that had made up their reunion, silence had followed them. Maybe because words weren’t enough to say all that needed to be said.
“Thank you, Kairi,” he said presently. “This is really good.”
She nodded, then wondered how long it had been since he’d even gotten to drink hot chocolate. It was such a simple pleasure, but even simple pleasures took on a whole new significance after dying.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” he asked, his eyebrows furrowing.
“I just… thought about you not getting to drink hot chocolate while you were gone, and…” She set her tea down and fiddled with the sleeves of his hoodie, still keeping her nice and warm. “After everything you’ve been through, it’s a silly thing to think about, but…”
“It’s not silly at all,” he said, and his face was perfectly serious. “I missed this. A lot.”
“What else did you miss?” she asked. She wanted to make it all up to him somehow.
He took another sip, then set his mug down on the coffee table. “Lots of stuff. Hot chocolate, sea-salt ice cream, skateboarding, our friends… but mostly, I missed the sea.”
“The sea, huh?”
He nodded.
“Well, once we’re back home, I’m sure you’ll be able to see it.” Come to think of it, it had been a while since she’d been to the sea back home, too. It was painful trying to visit, because that was where Sora had disappeared. Maybe now that he was back, going there wouldn’t hurt so much anymore.
“Maybe,” he said, “but being gone for so long showed me that seeing just isn’t good enough anymore.”
She tilted her head. “What do you mean?”
“I wanna know if there’s a way to stay with the sea for good,” he said, his gaze steady and even.
She gave him a curious look. “What do you mean?”
“The sky always tries to reach the sea,” he said, holding his hand out, “but she keeps slipping right through his fingers,” he finished, making a grasping motion.
Oh. He wasn’t talking about the sea. He wasn’t talking about the sea at all.
She stared at his hand, long and elegant and graceful. Her fingers twitched, and she reached for him, twining their fingers together. The warmth from their contact spread up her arm, and as nice as wearing his hoodie was, it didn’t even begin to compare to holding his hand.
“She’s here now, isn’t she?” she asked, giving his hand a gentle squeeze.
“Yeah, but… the sky’s afraid of losing her again.”
Like she suspected. His fears mirrored her own. “Is that why he can’t sleep?”
“Yes,” he said softly.
“Then… would it help, if he could hold her in his arms as he did?”
Sora blushed, and she ducked her head, wondering what had gotten into her. She was about to apologize for being so bold when he spoke.
“Yes. Please.”
His soft please made her heart flutter, and she found his hand again. “Okay.”
She led him to her room, and he shyly asked if this was really okay before she insisted it was. Still, even she was a little nervous. Sora, in her room, in her bed… what would her parents say? What would their friends say?
Well, if it helped him sleep, they couldn’t fault her for that. He needed his strength. He needed his energy back. And if she could make up to him what he had suffered for her, it would be worth whatever teasing or gossip or scolding their friends and relatives might dish out.
She climbed into bed and held the covers up, and Sora joined her. When he had settled in, he wrapped his arms around her. Not so different from their other hugs, really, and just as nice. She snuggled into his embrace and inhaled deeply, taking in his warmth and scent.
“Better?” she asked.
“Yeah. A lot better.”
Her fingers curled around his shirt, and she leaned against his chest and listened to his heartbeat. He was alive, and his heart was telling her that over and over again like it was the best news in the world.
His hand went to her back and gently stroked it. Warmth spread up and down it, and a quick glance told her he was using healing magic again.
“It’s okay,” she said. “It’s already healed.”
“No, it’s not. Maybe it looks healed, but it’s still hurting you.”
She pulled back a little to search his eyes. “How’d you know?”
He rested his hand over his chest. “Because my heart still hurts, too. The pain gets worse when I think about what happened… when I can’t sleep...”
She rolled over, her back facing his chest. He understood, and a few moments later, she felt his arms go around her again. That was the way to lessen the pain for them both. His chest to her back as he held her safe in his arms. Gone was the feeling that someone could ambush her from behind, because Sora had her back. Gone too was the ache in his chest, he told her later, because his light was in his arms and warming his heart. And for the first time in months, they both slept through the night.
When she woke up the next morning, Sora was still with her. For one night, at least, the sky and sea had breached their long separation. For one night they had met.
When his eyes fluttered open, he greeted her with a sleepy grin. “Morning, Kai.”
She returned his grin. “Morning, lazy bum.”
Sora had changed, and so had she. It was an inevitable part of growing up. It was to be expected after they’d both fought in a war, died, and come back to life.
But there was one constant through it all: the bond between them. It had changed, yes, but it had gotten bigger and deeper. Its heart was still there, and as long as that heart lived, the sky and sea would always find a way to meet.

PHOENIX HOW YOU STAY CALM FOR THE SOKAI?
I don’t, it’s all a ruse. Instead I come up with fluffy headcanons (often with @angel-with-a-pipette) set when Sora and Kairi have their happily ever after and are in a happy stable relationship to distract myself from how KH3 ended, such as:
They love watching romantic movies together. Sora is a big fan of romance because he’s a hopeless romantic at heart. He’s as likely as Kairi to be moved to tears by the really sappy ones because they remind him of how much he and Kairi love each other.
They like holding hands in public and making lovey-dovey eyes at each other. Sometimes Kairi catches Sora looking at her when he thinks she isn’t watching, and the love in his eyes makes her melt into a puddle. The same goes for when Sora realizes Kairi is looking at him, he melts because the look in her eyes makes him weak.
They take turns cooking for each other because they’re both good cooks and it’s something they enjoy doing. Kairi buys Sora an apron that says “Kiss the Chef” that he wears every time he cooks for her, and she is more than happy to do as the apron says.
Sora makes an effort to get Kairi special presents for her birthday, their anniversary, Christmas, etc. because he feels like he didn’t do a good enough job of that when they were younger. Kairi is grateful for the presents and always thanks him, but gently reminds him that being with him is the best present she could ever ask for.
Kairi likes making crafts and makes gifts for Sora. Maybe she learns to knit and knits him a hat and gloves for his visits to Arandelle and other cold worlds.
They love cuddling and snuggling, and it’s an important part of their relationship. Sometimes Sora just holds his arms out as Kairi walks by or catches her hand, and she knows what to do.
When Kairi’s feeling down, Sora holds her and kisses her and tells her how much she means to him, and vice versa. This always results in the other person melting in a puddle of happiness and/or being overwhelmed with emotion.
Kairi is good at teasing Sora, and Sora can crank up the charm when he really wants to. They love bantering with each other and seeing who gets flustered first.
After they get married/have kids, Sora dresses up as Santa for Christmas every year. When the kids are old enough to figure out it’s him, he takes them to meet Santa for real.
Kairi leaves little notes for Sora all over the place for him to find telling him she’s thinking about him and loves him.
Their kids are grossed out by how affectionate they are growing up, but when they’re older, they’re grateful to have had such a healthy loving relationship modeled for them and want to have what Mom and Dad have.
Sora and Kairi fall in love more deeply every day and still act lovestruck after years of marriage. Their love grows and matures along with them, and they couldn’t be happier.
I could keep going with these for ages, but thinking of them happy and in love just brings a smile to my face because they’re so wonderful!
