Happy Tails AU pt 2

Oh yeah this story keeps going. No trigger warnings for this part, just König accidentally being a dick. He's not intentionally doing it, but it's just kinda how he comes across. Don't worry, he won't be awful for too long (I hope).

This is just more establishing. König will meet YN/OC, and he'll enjoy his snacks.

Also, I need a name for pet cafe owner YN. Do you guys have any suggestions? Like, Lamb or Bunny? I was kinda leaning on Bunny.

Story under the cut

The address he pulled up at was a small little cafe. He parked behind the building and walked around, gingerly testing the door only to find it give way with the jingling of a bell.

König walks in like a wraith, his shadow being the only warning of his presence slowly filling up the front end of the cafe. There was a low dinn in the building, humming carefully from deep within the cafe. Said cafe was divided in two with a glass wall, where a frosted door sat squarely in the middle beside a hand sanitizer dispenser. The front counter was strangely empty, much to his disappointment. The only reason he came here was because he wanted snacks. When he next saw Dr. Reed, he'd be sure to have some words with him.

Just as König turned to leave, the door opened and you slipped through the crack before shutting it tight behind you.

"Hey! You're here for the therapy group, right?" you asked and then looked at the man in front of you, your smile dimming ever so slightly as you did so.

König blinked. All the words in all his languages evaporated on his tongue.

You couldn't help but stare back at him. This man was big. You'd never seen someone like this before. Most of the soldiers here were pretty powerful and stocky looking people, but this guy was in a class all on his own. His blank eyes stared back at you through the holes in his executioner's hood.

It was clear as day what he was here for, but it took you a minute to stop staring at him and actually invite him in.

You took a step to the side and gestured towards the hand sanitizer, "Before you go in, we ask that you clean your hands. We don't want you or any of our animals to get sick!"

König nodded and stumbled forward to clumsily slap his hands together as he cleaned his hands. He ducked beneath the door frame and silently slid into the next room, with you following behind and shutting the door quietly.

Every other soldier had been greeted with a wave and a smile, but you noticed that not a single person acknowledged this man. Instead, the couple of people he passed by tensed up slightly until he passed to the centre of the room, where he finally got a chance to look around the warm room.

A row of hamster cages lined the right side of the room. Beneath them, there were three rabbit hutches that led into three separate pens. On his left, there were some pens of guinea pigs wheeking and scurrying about as they chewed on hay and scraps of lettuce. Above the pens, a few wire cages held some small fluffy animals that he would later learn were called chinchillas. In the back corner, in a nearly unoccupied pen, there were some small long animals that looked rather cute. What drew his eyes, however, were not the cute little animals.

There, dressed in a plain white tablecloth, was a folding table brimming with sandwiches and pastries. He ignored the coffee and tea in favour of loading a plate as high as he felt socially acceptable (really, he was about two sandwiches, a croissant, and a doughnut above the limit, and that was just on his first plate). He bit down into a sandwich. It wasn't anything special, but it was heaven compared to the meals on base.

Finally, plates in hand, he turned back to you and stared down at your form.

"You. Where is the group?" he barked sharply.

You were a bit taken aback by his tone, but you managed to recover and pointed around the room. You barely took in the fact that he had a German accent.

"There's a worker in the rabbit pen, and one in the guinea pig pen, and there's a third in the other pen," you said and pointed at each pen accordingly.

König was silent and unmoving. You were really starting to regret renting out your cafe when he finally spat out, "What is the 'other' pen?"

You shrugged, "Other. We don't have any chinchillas out, but we have a bunch of ferrets."

"What is a 'ferret'?" König squinted at you menacingly.

"Um, let me show you," you said, and led him to the pen in the back of the room.

Happy Tails AU - König Learns About Warriors

This is just more fluff about König being a bit of a dumb creep (not intentionally) and falling in love with a new animal. He is enraptured by the furry noodles.

König sat in the pen with the therapist. Seeing as nobody wanted to be too close to König, and everyone was excited by the rabbits and guinea pigs, nobody wanted to join König in the 'other' pen. The therapist in the pen was a bit miffed, seeing as this was 'group therapy', but they'd made do.

Without all the issues of dealing with other people, and with a plate full of food, König was delighted. Maybe Dr. Reed was right about this program. He liked this therapist, even if they were a bit ignorant about the military, and the animal handler present was... Cute. Very cute.

When he wasn't intently focused on the therapist (and nearly scaring them with his intensity), he was glancing between you and the strange noodle animal in your hands.

You told him you'd wait until the break to introduce him to the animal. It was flopped in your arms with its eyes closed. It looked like a worm on a string, but more defined. He didn't understand anything about its anatomy. When does the head end and the neck begin? Why does it have such a fat butt? It looked like a stretched out cone with a pipe cleaner taped on the back. All in all, it looked very pettable.

When the break started, you approached the giant man carefully. You didn't know this man, but despite how scary he seemed when he first came in, it seemed that he was just inhumanly awkward. He kept looking at you and glancing at your ferret, and then back at you before fixing his steely glare back on the therapist.

For privacy reasons, you didn't really listen in, just focusing on stroking Atlas's fluffy sable fur. He was probably your calmest ferret, making him eligible for the program. You'd had him for a couple of years now, and he'd been nothing but sweet and loving.

Approaching the big man, you couldn't help but feel the intensity of his glare on you. There was something strange and off putting about this man. The closer you got to him, the stiffer and more uncertain he became. You felt like you were approaching a wild animal when you knelt on the floor in front of him.

"So, uh, this is Atlas," you held out the ferret, "have you ever held a ferret before?"

The man finally tore his eyes away from yours to look at the animal in your hands, then shook his head.

"Okay, well, you can hold him by supporting the chest like this and holding a hand under his butt, like this."

König held out his hands nervously and took the animal from you with slightly shaking hands.

Once you were able to bring your hands back, Atlas slowly opened his beady black eyes.

"So, you've never met a ferret before?" you asked, "at all?"

König shook his head again, adjusting himself to a cross-legged position to put the slowly waking ferret in his lap. He delicately stroked the animal's fur with two fingers. The ferret sniffed, then closed its eyes again. Not a minute later, and the little animal was snoring in his arms.

"Atlas isn't like most ferrets," you told him, "Atlas is super chill. He's the calmest ferret I've ever met in my life."

"He is..." König paused briefly, "nice."

"He's a pain in the butt sometimes," you snort, "he always splashes his water when he drinks it."

"He is very soft," König murmured.

"I brush the ferrets every day," you crowed, "I've been keeping ferrets for years. In fact, all the ferrets on the floor are my own pets."

"So you don't adopt out ferrets?" König asked curiously.

"Not the ones we have, no," you explained, "but it looks like Atlas has taken a liking to ya. Maybe you should come around more often."

König looked down at the ferret in his lap. You couldn't tell, but a soft smile spread across his face.

"Maybe I should."

The Happy Tails AU (Intro)

When König was given his most recent psych eval, the psychiatrist on base recommended that he find treatment for his social anxiety and PTSD. He recommended group therapy, and by chance, there happened to be an opening at a new group that was being formed by KorTac officials.

"It's an alternative support animal service," Dr. Reed explained, "for patients who've had negative histories with dogs, such as yourself, we recommend trying this program. It's located in a small, quiet cafe where you can speak with a therapist in a group setting and find treatment and support for your conditions."

"I do not want to go to a group," König argued, but Dr. Reed was quick to reply.

"For social anxiety, group therapy can be quiet beneficial, actually," Dr. Reed clicked his pen shut, "you might be surprised to find like-minded folks. If it helps, you can think of it as the next step in our aversion therapy work, no?"

"But I am not ready," König grunted.

"I suspect you actually are, König," Dr. Reed said with a slight smile under his bushy auburn moustache.

König looked down at the paper that Dr. Reed slid over the maple desk. He glared at the offending sheet, but picked it up regardless. He was about to put it in the trash when Dr. Reed cleared his throat.

"They have free coffee and snacks."

König looked up slowly.

"What sort of snacks?"
