Ok so, while watching Chungking Express by Wong Kar-wai I kind of felt like the vibe of the movie (and other movies of WKW) are really similar to Haruki Murakami's books, also maybe because I've been reading a lot of those lately. And apparently it's more or less known that he was influenced by Murakami? I will link some stuff at the bottom of this post for people to read, it's really cool.
Wong has admitted to Murakami’s direct influence on his work, particularly Chungking Express, remarking that “Haruki Murakami was very popular in Hong Kong then, and because Kaneshiro Takeshi is half Japanese, I thought it would be funny to have his voice-overs written in Murakami style”.

Also another fun fact for movie nerds, Faye Wong (who plays Faye in Chungking Express) was Shunji Iwai'a inspiration for the character of Lily Chou-Chou in his 2001 movie 'All about Lily Chou-Chou' !!! It's so cool to see how everything's connected

The fragrance of the breeze, the tone of the light, the tiny flowers in the grass, the subtle reverberations that accompanied sounds: all these told me that autumn had come again, increasing the distance between me and the dead with each cycle of the seasons.

Are all of Haruki Murakami’s works like this or did I just strike out with the one book where the mc won’t shut up about his BBW fetish

“Have as many as you like,” said the old man. “When you get't'my age, your eatin' declines. Can't eat as much, can't work as much. But a young person ought't'eat plenty. Eat plenty and fatten up plenty. People nowadays hate't'get fat, but if you ask me, they're looking at fat all wrong. They say it makes you unhealthy or ugly, but it'd never happen 'tall if you fatten up the right way. You live a fuller life, have more sex drive, sharpen your wits. I was good and fat when I was young. Wouldn't believe it't'look at me now. Ho-ho-ho.”

Signs of winter shroud the Town like an invisible skin. The sound of the wind, the swaying of the grasses, the clack of heels on the cobblestones in the still of night, all grow remote under an ominous weight. Even the waters of the River, once so pleasant as they lapped at the sandbars, no longer soothe me. There is an instinctive withdrawal for the sake of preservation, a closure that assumes the order of completion. Winter is a season unto itself.

🎧: 南国 - pomodorosa (& anything else by pomodorosa <3)
today’s been lovely. i got the dm i’ve been waiting lifetimes for, i read some of this book (i’m a big fan of haruki murakami’s writing), had some warm tea first thing in the morning. perhaps things aren’t so bad if i think about it. & while i’m on that topic, lately, i’ve been thinking a lot, especially of life and sometimes the absurdity of being alive; its hard to believe that i am a breathing living thing at times. just the other day, i went outside with my cat, the blue hour was just ending, and the sun started to rise, and it kind of just hit me that i was alive. i know that’s a little silly to say but it really was just kind of a realization lol. anyways, i’m hoping the rest of my life can lead as soft of an existence as today, but that may be a bit much to ask for, or expect, so i’ll just fervently hope that tomorrow the sun will rise again and that the light will fall gently on me.
