IF CHARLES HAD KNOWN better, the last thing he’d do was to invite her to the Formula 1 Grand Prix De Monaco 2023. Not when she’s right there sitting on his bed, in her jersey with his name and number printed to the back of her football club; it was the custom shirt she had gotten him when she first signed with the club. The athletic shorts clinging onto her thighs didn’t aid him either.

“You’re actually insane if you think I’m gonna let you wear that to any of my races this week. Shit, blue isn’t even our colour, Tesorino.” He complains, mumbling the last sentence out as if he was totally against the idea of her in those tight shorts. “You literally just flew me in from my hotel in Madrid after a match, didn’t say shit about bringing me here to watch the race, Charles. I thought I would have stayed at home to watch because of our schedule clash.”

He kept silent and winced on his part, she wasn’t completely off about that and the fact that he didn’t inform her of it. To be fair, she had known that he had a race this weekend and he would have definitely flown her in. Charles made it a promise to be at every match of hers, if he could and this was one of the matches he couldn’t attend. Not seeing her would kill him either way, it’s a win-win situation.

“Eh but you did win though, a goal and two assists. I’m doing you a favour by letting you recharge by watching me!” He threw her a Ferrari team shirt and black shorts her way as much as he loved seeing her in her own colours, this certainly wasn’t a time for it. “Anyways, why do you have another printed replica of the jersey you got me? Scared you’ll miss me that much huh?”

Rolling her eyes at him as she walked past him, his shirt and shorts in a hand, the other slapping him on his ass. “You need to stop doing that whenever you walk past me! What if they got it on camera? The next thing you’d see is FC Barcelona Femeni Player, Y/n caught slapping Formula One Driver, Charles Leclerc on the ass.” He eyed her as she made her way towards the bathroom.

Shit, he loves her curves of softness. With the muscle of a footballer and those damn thighs, she was the most astonishing girl he had ever met. She had safe eyes, perhaps that's the best way to say it. She had a beauty that made those billboard-princesses look as paper thin as they are, she was something robust and real. That was his girl, it was her before she was his and it was her all of her days.

He knew he shouldn’t be thinking of his best-friend in that light, but growing up with her and watching her mature into what she is today didn’t help. “You’d love that though wouldn’t you? On the front cover newspaper in the sports section and top hashtag on twitter’s trending, that’d certainly boost your Spotify stats and Instagram followers!” She calls from the bathroom, and he pictures her sly smirk on her face.

Yeah fuck, if he wouldn’t love being seen with her although their friendship was already widely known. A shriek escapes her when she runs out of the bathroom, phone in her hand and looking all star struck. “No one told me he would be here!” She shoves her phone up in his face, the Instagram story of Mason Mount by the McLaren garage.

“Mi Tesoro, you literally played against Chelsea’s Women's team in the Champions League recently. Why are you acting all fangirl over him? You didn’t even seem excited to see me by my garage, in my race suit if I must add.” His jaw twitches, watching her bounce around him. “It’s different, I see you almost everyday but I only see him on the pitch when he plays.” Charles hums in response, if that’s what keeps her going then he’s not going to stop it.

“He’s stopping by the Ferrari garage later, I invited him over just because I’m a Chelsea fan too, don’t think I’m doing this just for you.” He watches her jaw drop open and curve up, looking at him as if he hung the stars up for her. But fuck he barely even supported Chelsea, he had never watched a premier league match live even when he was in Silverstone for the race. Well, if that’s what it takes for her to look at him, he wouldn’t mind inviting any Footballers she loves to any other race.

Charles is starting to question if everything he does was for the sake of her smile. The type of smile that reaches his bones, the type of smile that extends to her eyes as the sides crinkles and her dimples on display. “Quit looking at me like that, we have to go if you wanna see your favourite boy on the track and I have a qualifying session to get to.”

“No, you’re my favourite boy for doing this for me.” And there’s a slap to his ass before he knew it, a strangled groan evades his lips as he slips on the Ray-Ban shades. “Will not be doing this for you anymore if you keep slapping my ass, that habit needs to go.” Charles watches as she runs past him, loving the way she donned his team shirt and pants so perfectly that it made him feel something, just a little.

There’s a bounce in her steps when she walks out of the lobby of his apartment, the sun set in the sky as fresh colours brushed upon an artist’s canvas, as if those rays were destined to create a great work of art. The rays dawned upon her, her tan skin illuminated in the hues and Charles watched as she turned around with his cap covering her face from the sunlight.

There was a softness to her appearance, a kind of warmth married to a shyness. “You seem awfully excited about the qualifying session and I wonder why.” He flicks his cap, sauntering past her as they enter the garage, where her eyes had already landed on the English footballer for Chelsea. “You have fun with him, I need to get ready.” Charles bends to leave a peck on her cheek, something he had always done before qualifying or the featured race, he thinks she’s good luck for him.

His fingers hesitated on clicking the Whatsapp icon on his phone and to open the chat with his younger brother. Once in a lifetime thing, it’s now or never and he fears he might never have the balls to do this again.

charles: get me a bouquet of roses on the way here would you?

arthur: lol for y/n? finally getting some pussy aren’t you? 😁

charles: shut up mate, just get them :)

arthur: 👍 but if you fuck it up with her, you’ll lose me as well.

arthur: dude i don’t even know how you got a barça player as your best-friend. 

charles: wtf picking my best-friend over your own brother?

charles: she was my best-friend before she became a barça player…

arthur: our best-friend and good luck for quali.

charles: yeah thanks, will do my best.

He shuts his phone off, walking out of his room in his race suit, the custom helmet for his home race in his hand. Greeted by the sight of his best-friend ogling at the footballer beside her with her headset on as he made a beeline towards her. “Hey, nice to finally meet you. Big fan, hoping the team does better next season though.” He pulls Mason in for a hug, a pat on the back before pulling away. “You head back to our home right after qualifying okay? I have a debrief and stuff, it's gonna take a long while.”

“Mhm yeah sure, good luck. Cheering for you always.” She mumbles into the crook of his neck, ruffling his hair before pushing him towards his car. He staggered from the impact of the push and threw a glare her way but never could he get angry at her. Not now or ever.

Sitting in the cockpit with his foot on the throttle, pushing flat out on the last straight before crossing the line with his last attempt of Q3, only two things on his mind. Pole position and roses. Fuck he didn’t even know what he was thinking with the roses. And before he knew it, the static noise from the radio broke his train of thoughts. “And P1, good job Charles.”

His heart was at ease clinching the pole position for his home race, hoping it’d go as smoothly as the featured race tomorrow. One thing off his mind now, the other thing weighed slightly heavier on his shoulders. He’s turning 26 this year, surely asking a girl out would be no challenge for him.

Charles pranced his way towards Max and Carlos, it was a Ferrari front row lockout for the weekend’s qualifying session. Sure he’d love to stick around and celebrate with the team, but not when his prize was right at home waiting for him. “Great work today Carlos, hopefully it goes as well tomorrow.” He clasps the Spaniard by the hand, pulling him for a hug as they make their way towards the Ferrari garage.

“Your flowers, remember don’t fuck it up.” Arthur shoves the bouquet of roses into the right hand of Charles, his left holding on the Pirelli Pole Position tyre. “Charles, I see you finally making a move on the Barça player eh? Good luck mate.” He’s taking the chance to tease Charles, but whatever it takes for Y/n. “Thanks, you’re a Real Madrid fan though, Carlos. Not sure if luck is needed from a Madrid fan…”

He’s in his room, swiftly changing out of his race suit into the team’s attire and attending the quick debrief with the team before leaving the garage. The strides he takes are huge, the roses in his clammy hands, the rapid beating of his heart blaring at his ears. Hell he wasn’t even this nervous during races or qualifying sessions.

Charles is met with the button of the elevator up to his apartment where his best-friend would be sitting on the couch, awaiting him to have dinner together. The elevator was a plain silver box with plain silver buttons and plain silver doors, something he took every day yet it has never felt as confined and as cramped as it was now. Not when his anxiety was eating him alive, everything he had waited for was right in front of him when the elevator doors opened.

The door unlocks with a simple reading of his fingerprint and he sees his favourite girl jumping off the couch and running towards him. Her eyes glued onto the bouquet of roses in his hands, her eyebrows cocking up at the sight. “Which fangirl got this for you?” She nudged him by the elbow, taking a seat on the couch like she was earlier. “Eh, it’s for you.” He hands her the bouquet, craning his neck away from her gaze. “For me? What’s the occasion, or is this some roses your fan girl got you and you give it to me as a donation.”

“No I got it for you, technically I asked Arthur to get it for me so I could give it to you. Anyways, I wouldn’t give you what my fans gave me, are you crazy?” He’s rambling and it’s so absolutely adorable, it’s the fact that he doesn’t know he’s only rambling when he’s nervous but she picked up on his mannerism anyways. “Mhm, thanks Charles. Congrats on the pole today, you were flying out there.”

She rises to her feet, leaving a chaste kiss on his cheek, her arms wrapped around his waist. His heart beating so rapidly and loudly, he’s afraid she might be able to hear it with her head resting against his chest in their stance. This wasn’t just a benign gesture like he thought it’d be, it’s literally a whole love confession.

“I don’t know how to put this but I think I’m in love with you. Okay, maybe not I think but more like I’ve been in love with you for a while now. I don’t think you ever realised how I’ve never been in a relationship, like hell I could have gotten anyone I wanted but it was you I was waiting for, for a long time now if you don’t see it. If you’re willing to give me a chance, I would love to make you the happiest girl alive. So, what do you say? Can I please be your boyfriend, mi tesoro?”

His fingers running through her caramel strands, calms him down a little at her stillness and quietness. “Say something baby, please don’t keep me in suspense.” He’s pleading, and never has he pleaded for anything or anyone. “I don’t know what took you so long to realise the same thing, Charles.”

“Took me Mason Mount and seeing you in my team’s shirt over and over again to realise that.” There’s a huge grin on his face, the deep happiness in the well of his dimples, those dimples that showed her the way home.

“I’d like to thank my brother for the so-so motivational ted talk of choosing you over me if I messed this confession up. I love you, you’re the best-friend I could ever ask for and I promise to be the best boyfriend ever.”

What’s Past is Prologue

An Earthspark Post-S1, Pre-S2 summary fic

If you were left unsatisfied by the jarring time gap and tone shift between S1 and S2, here's a mini fic to help fill the void. I'm going to write out the full version on Ao3. But this is the short and sweet summary~

It had been a month since The Battle of Witwicky. The Maltos are still picking up the pieces, both literally and figuratively. While they succeeded in their goal of defeating Mandroid, saving all Transformers on Earth, and quite possibly, the world as a whole, some things were left shattered. Most notably, Quintus Prime’s Emberstone. The pieces were scattered across the globe and, for a moment, Team Prime feared they would be lost forever.

However, Quintus Prime would never leave his chosen stranded. Prime Power or not, the kids did not give up hope. The shards of the Emberstone dispersed, but they were not lost forever. Starting right in their backyard, The Maltos found their first shard in the cow pasture… With the help of Fluffy-Ears, of course. Less than a week later, another was found by Breakdown while racing across the countryside with Bumblebee.

At first, the alliance between Autobots and Decepticons had been tense. Both sides were anxious that the other might sell them out or deceive them. But with the help of the newly declared “Malto-bots,” tensions eased. It was hard not to enjoy their company. It had been centuries since any of them had interacted with bots so young. It was refreshing to have such young and enthusiastic faces around.

Every day, the Maltos searched for more ways to find the missing shards. Some they stumbled across accidentally. Some ended up in museums- dazzling archeologists. Schloder and Optimus Prime had to be the ones to get those. Nightshade created a way of scanning for the shards, but their device’s range was limited so the scouting parties had to travel the world to identify possible locations. Did someone say road trip? The Trine were quick to point out that they were much better suited for the job thanks to the help of Skywarp’s powers.

Starscream had to admit, he was fascinated by these ancient Cybertronian artifacts. His volunteering to help the Maltos was not entirely altruistic. It was an opportunity to show off the superiority of himself and his fellow Seekers and gain knowledge about these strange crystal shards. That’s what he told himself at least. The fact that he often hoovered around the Malto residents when Hashtag was around, and Megatron was not, was purely so he could gather intel.

As for the Malto-bots, they enjoyed the month of relative peace. While not all the Decepticons were eager to become ‘friends’, the ones that stuck around would do their best to teach the kids something while they were there.

Breakdown was the first. Never one to turn down a chance to show off, he was happy to oblige Thrash when he asked for racing tips. He showed the young bot a few flashy new moves, including one that Robby insisted was called “The Akira Slide.” Breakdown maintained that it was a Stunticon specialty, and certainly not inspired by a cartoon.

Swindle tried to teach the kids how to override security locks at the junkyard, but was quickly shut down by Elita-One. He complained to Hardtop about what a wasted opportunity it was for three days straight.

Skullcrusher, Grimlock, and Jawbreaker formed a special alliance that Jawbreaker dubbed “The Beastie Boys.” They spent their down time sparing and seeing who could leave the biggest dent in scrap metal pieces.

Soundwave and his casseticons taught Hashtag how to utilize her radio to scramble comm frequencies. In return, she taught them about the wonders of the internet. This was a terrible decision, as Frenzy quickly became engrossed by internet subcultures. Soundwave had to step in with what Mo would call his “Mad Dad Voice.” On the bright side, the discovery of Kandi culture led to a group friendship bracelet making party.

Even Shockwave took some time to mentor the bots. Well. Realistically it was just Nightshade in the lab, but The Great Shockwave was cool enough that the other Maltos pretended to pay attention for half of his science monolouge.

The Decepticons started creating their own home base in between Emberstone shard scouting missions. Led by Starscream, with Shockwave as his Second, they found a suitable location far enough away from the former-GHOST base, but not so far away that it would be impossible to reach the Terrans if needed.

This was one area that walked the line of the treaty. The Decepticons were entitled to make a home on Earth. Optimus Prime respected their wishes on this matter. He instructed the other Autobots and Maltos to stay out as well. If there was going to be a chance at lasting peace, they needed to build trust. Many of the Decepticons had been imprisoned by GHOST for years. They deserved a safe space without surveillance as much as anyone. Freedom was the right of all sentient beings, and Prime would sooner go offline than go back on that principle.

There was still much they didn’t know. With every new answer about the emberstones came more questions. Between chaos and confusion, there was also stillness and affection. For these precious moments, both Autobots, Decepticons and Maltobots could enjoy the time of respite.

However, nothing really lasts forever.

RE: Starscream

Everything below the 'read more' may be considered a spoiler for the batch of new episodes (season two, episodes 1-9) which dropped in June 2024.

Proceed with caution!

I. foreword

I recently went and rewatched the new episodes. I had seen a little bit about Starscream being a lil bastard and I was curious.

I did not watch everythin in chronological order though! I went based on my own interest — by how interesting the episode synopses sounded.

II. Season One of Earthspark

A large part of S1 Earthspark was the end of the Autobot-Decepticon War. The Terrans were positioned as a bridge between the two factions and humanity. There is fighting, of course. Lots of skirmishes and such. But by and by, there is no War. Only Autobots and GHOST. The Decepticons are not in a position to serve as an opposition for much of the season. Their forces, like the Autobots' own, are scattered.

Another big theme of S1 was picking up the pieces of the War — good and bad. There was a spirit of atonement. Optimus rounding up other Cybertronians on GHOST's behalf was part of his atonement. Megatron assisting was part of his. The Terrans, per Megatron, also have some part to play in this (and which Thrash is frustrated with). And likewise, Starscream represents another, much more difficult part of atonement: accepting that not everyone will be willing to forgive and forget what was done to them.

Season One went to great lengths to emphasise that Decepticons are not inherently bad, just as Autobots are not inherently good. It did not always deliver this message cleanly or without narrative difficulty, but it was obvious the main anatagonist in S1 was not the Decepticons, but GHOST.

That's why we had episodes which focused on the Terrans interacting with the Cons. On Swindle and his brother. On Bumblebee and Breakdown's friendship. On Hashtag emphasising with Starscream.

Thus far, Earthspark has been a bit greyer than previous television entries in the franchise.

And Season 2, despite being okay so far, has gone against that. The Decepticons, after just one year, are now back to being more villainous than ever. And all for a new motivation that was never hinted at (based on my admittedly hazy recollection).

III. Starscream

S1 Starscream wnated nothing to do with Megatron. His aspiration at the time was escape first from GHOST and then from Earth. Fine, reasonable, whatever.

His scene with Hashtag was very sympathetic; acknowledgement that whatever pain he suffered st the hands of Megatron was a real and valid experience. Heart-warming, yes, but that acknowledgement wouldn't be enough to turn Starscream over to the 'good' side. Fair enough.

I have seen some people say that the only reason some fans dislike S2 is because Starscream is back to being a villain. I have to disagree. People dislike S2 Starscream because his actions make no sense based on the themes and characterisation of S1.

For me, the callousness of his execution of the Chaos Terrans came out of nowhere. It would be fine in a series like Animated or Prime, but Earthspark showed Starscream to be a sympathetic character who is rightfully suspicious of any haven Megatron offers to him.

Starscream's execution of Spitfire and Aftermath suited Starscream as a general character.

I can see his interpretation of "Take care of yourself". That makes sense.

His wanting to reformat Earth into New Cybertron makes sense, too. The Cons' best scientist (Shockwave) was unable to even so much as confirm that Cybertron still exists. From what we see, no one (Bot, Con or otherwise) has the capability to travel through space. The reformat also makes sense if we presume that Starscream was corrupted somehow — either by assuming leadership (which has been a key part of his general character) or by working with Chaos Energy.

It also makes sense that he would kill others to achieve his goals. He's Starscream.

But for specifically Earthspark Starscream, it is just ... jarring. I would not be so bothered by it if this version of Starscream showed some hint of the sympathetic portrayal from S1. A moment of hesitance. Maybe deciding not to go through with the execution at the last minute because he saw Hashtag or something.

I dunno.

Like, if S1 Earthspark had not gone to such a great length to humanise the Decepticons, I wouldn't be as frustrated as I am now writing this.

Why bother humanisng them if you are just going to fall back on the "They are all actually 100% evil lol" schtick?

I am not saying that humanisation = morally good characters. Soundwave's affection with Ravage (feeding her energon treats and petting and holding her as one would an actual cat) are humanising details, but I have never once went "Hm! :) Redemption Arc! Soundwave!".

Starscream's sudden heel-face-turn was immensely disappointing, but I did enjoy a couple of this drop's episodes.

Poetry for ALL

Some personal anecdotes and a plea follow...

As quite a few of you know, I’ve been engaged in disability awareness and rights campaigning and other work since sometime in the 90s, so when I was given an opportunity to support and host an event dedicated to making performance poetry as accessible as possible in 2018, I jumped on it.

Poetry for All is the brainchild (and heartchild, and soulchild) of Rose Drew, who I first met through one of Richard Tyrone Jones’s Utter events in London. She’s an extraordinary writer and performer, and a powerhouse of an events host and organiser. Within about 30 seconds of watching her on stage, I knew I wanted to be like her when I grew up as an artist. When she got in touch three years later to ask if I’d like to help out with what turned out to be the inaugural event, I threw myself into providing as much support as possible with enthusiastic abandon, and we pulled together a line-up which included the extraordinary performers Raymond Antrobus and DL Williams (“DeafFirefly”), both of whom I’d performed with before and was keen to see again. 

Now, there’s a whole section on our new website about the history of the events where you can read the facts, but I want to say here that, personally, that first event in March 2018 (coincidentally on my birthday!) was an absolute eye-opener – seeing how poetry events could expand and develop the ideal of accessibility in ways I hadn’t considered. It was also extremely inspirational as I realised that, well, I was allowed to write about my disabilities. Seeing and hearing artist after artist sharing so much and so eloquently unlocked something in me that I didn’t even know I’d been repressing:

I’m allowed to be an openly disabled poet. I’m allowed to express my neurodivergence. I can tell my truth. 😱🤯

Bit of a culture-shock, but I owe so much to the poets and to Rose (and to Dave Wycherley, BSL interpreter extraordinaire – that’s a hard and physically/ mentally taxing job as it is, but to do that with poetry? on the fly?! breathtaking...) for helping me get to that starting point, knocking down the walls of my own internalised ableism.

So, apart from a paean to self-expression and why representation and finding tribe matters, and a screed of gratitude for new friends made and old friendships strengthened through the course of these events, why am I writing this? What’s with the hashtag? “Plea...?”

Well, so far, since you ask, all of our events have had local funding in York, where they’ve taken place exclusively so far. Rose applied for Arts Council England funding for this and next year for a tour comprising several venues and a host more disabled artists and BSL interpreters from various parts of the UK (all getting paid properly!), but we found out last week that we’d not got the money. Any of it. So our forthcoming event on 24th November in the gorgeous National Centre for Early Music is in jeopardy and, since the thought of Rose (herself a disabled artist on low wages) having to pay for this out of her own pocket was not to be supported, I threw myself at a plan of creating a (somewhat last-minute) Crowdfunder, so that we can at least pay for the venue, the artists’ and interpreters’ fees, the travel and accommodation expenses of those of us coming from out of town, and the costs of producing merchandise to sell. We’ll be producing an anthology in print and ebook form, as a joint publication between indie publishers Stairwell Books and Allographic Press. And, if we exceed our funding goal, there’ll be video and audio available of the event to boot!

We’ve created a frankly very exciting range of pledge rewards for people wanting to support us (all the way from £1 and £2 options, since money is tight, especially for disabled folk, right now, to more chunky ones like private mentoring, workshops, and a publishing package), and we’ve got three weeks(!) to raise our £1,500 to cover the shortfall from ticket and merch sales. Do you have any idea what Kris actually wants? It seems like everybody has a different answer and I’m curious what you think about it

i don't think kris fully knows what kris wants, which complicates things

like there's a list of things they want that contradict and overlap at nasty pain points like:

-freedom from the control of the SOUL

-to be a hero and go on this cool fantasy adventure

-furthering the above, to escape from hometown entirely

-friendship and other relationships they can trust unconditionally

-asriel back, their parents happy again, etc

-to not cause anyone problems

-MAYBE answers about things like Dess and Gaster, not sure how much they know or suspect

the problem is then you get things like - they have friends now but fear that the SOUL is the one mediating those friendships, not them, so they can't admit to the whole possession thing and keep it in the background. they don't want to cause people problems but they want escapist adventures and to keep solution hunting so they keep opening dark fountains despite the threat of the roaring. they want to get out but they want to stay and wait for Asriel. etc

it's part of why I like them! they don't have a Single Clear Goal - they're a messy teenager who's in over their head and who isn't fully consistent with what they do and want. hashtag relatable

4. Great Angst Fic

The Voltron fandom has some of the best angst I've read honestly, I am not often brought to tears by fic but it's happened once or twice while reading VLD stuff. Failure to Launch by kittymills tore my heart right out when I read it, it's just so freaking sad I can't deal!! It's such a short fic but I was bawling by the end of it, it's just chef's kiss.

7. Specific Line that has stuck with you

This is from THE FRONT by @monstersinthecosmos which is another VLD fic and it's one of my favourites of all time:

“The stars are so beautiful when you’re out there,” he says softly. He looks up at the dull white paintjob. They’re way underground, deep in the Earth, but he pictures it. “You always know they’re out there, and you always know you can’t see them that well from here, and it’s still so… beautiful."

In this fic Keith is captive in a lab and is being experimented on and Shiro is trying to find a way to break him out, and this quote just really struck me in that moment like yeah sometimes you can't see the stars or might even forget they're there but they're still out there and they're beautiful and maybe that's what matters yk!!!!!

8. Specific Scene that has stuck with you

I recently caught up with @baejax-the-great 's Screwdriver, and the scene at the coffeeshop where Zagreus is trying to talk to Achilles about his boy troubles but Achilles is having none of it is hilarious:

“You ghosted Thanatos. He didn’t want you to leave him and he was not trying to find you. He moved on. It’s not the same.”

He doesn’t know that. He doesn’t know that Thanatos moved on. Zagreus didn’t see a ring on Than’s finger. He didn’t see a friendship necklace that said “BFFs forever” with a picture of some guy in it.

The next day for the Festa, a surprise video for BTS’ YouTube channel was released. Armies were surprised to see it was Jin in the kitchen, with an apron on while cooking. Then he turned around.

“There is a certain someone that I have unfinished business with Army,” he spoke. “Someone by the name of Miss Bangtan. I want my championship. The K-Pop title is supposed to be mine and I demand a rematch! You see, I was going easy on you and I’ll admit I underestimated you. But this time, I won’t be holding back! Jin will show no mercy this time! I mean it! I will win! I am worldwide handsome, do you understand!?“

The caption, ‘StopJennie2K16’ came up on the screen

“This time, it will be the match of my choosing. After doing my research on types of wrestling matches, I challenge you to a Falls Count Anywhere match! We wrestle everywhere! At any time! I am taller than you! I am stronger than you, and I will beat you! Jin versus Jennie part 2, coming very soon on your local Bangtan Bomb! Now...accept my challenge, missy! That title needs a more worthy champion to hold it,” he pointed his spatula at the camera and signed out after blowing a kiss.

For the day of their birthday festa event for V-Live, the members were currently at their dress rehearsal. Everyone seemed to be anticipating Jin and Rapmon’s dance battles the most as they sat in their seats.

“You’re freaking cool!” V encouraged as the lights went out, with Rapmon waiting for the music to come on. “Woo!”

“Okay!” Jen cheered as he began to dance.

Yoongi and Hobi started laughing as they watched him.

“His expression is daebak!” Suga said

“Oooooohhhhhh!” V cheered.

After he finished his last move, Jen started screaming with the rest of the members as they all cheered and freaked out.

“That’s my leader! He killed that 'ish! He killed it!” she shouted.

“Wow, you’re cool!” Jin added.

“He’s good. Really good,” Jimin praised.

“Hyung’s coming now,” Jungkook announced on the mic. 

“Wooooooooo! Let’s go Jin!” Jennie cheered as the lights popped on and he began to dance. 

Yoongi and Hobi were cracking up while she and V were bouncing in their seats, vibing to his performance.

“He’s so, so awesome!” Jimin spoke.

“Okay! Okay! I see you, Jin! That’s what I’m talking about!” Jennie shouted.

She was proud of them both. They worked so hard and it paid off. She knew viewers were going to enjoy it.

Next up was Jen, Jungkook, and Jimin’s coming of age ceremony.

“Ah, I think it’s going to be so embarrassing,” Jimin called out.

“We’ll look forward to it!” Jin announced.

“We're going to kill it! We'll be fine,” Jen cheered.

“Fighting!” V quickly said.

As the song came on, the members watched them dance. Jen was in the middle for the performance, giving it 110% as the members cheered.

"Look at Jennie!" Rapmon cheered. "Go, Jennie!"

Hobi pointed out that Jimin had gotten some of the dance moves wrong in the beginning.

“Their moves are different from each other!” Jin called out.

Next up was Sope’s vocal duet. Jennie sat with Jungkook for this performance. Suga started singing first, walking on stage with Hobi.

“Okay! Vocals!” she praised, waving her arm around

“Everybody! Stand up! Clap! Clap!” J-Hope announced as he jumped around.

Jimin covered his face, laughing while Jennie stood up with her phone. Putting the flashlight on, she started waving it around. When Hobi started screaming into the mic, she sat back down and laughed, covering her mouth while Jungkook stomped his feet and slapped his thigh while laughing.

“Oh my gosh...” she said as they continued to sing all extra.

“My throat freaking hurts,” J-Hope said in the mic after they finished.

“That was cool,” Rapmon stated. “You guys are cool. Really cool.”

“You guys are good.” Jin praised.

“Jennie, you’re up,” the staff announced.

“Oh boy,” she got out of her seat and made her way to the stage.

“ENNIE!” V and Jimin cheered.

“Go, Jennie! Go, Jennie! Go! Go! Go, Jennie!” Hobi rapped.

“This is going to be funny,” Rapmon chuckled.

A couch was already placed on the stage and she kneeled behind it as the lights went out. As soon as the music came on, the lights popped back on and she rose up to sit on the couch and began to sing. The guys watched her admiringly and even laughed since they knew how much she preferred more badass concepts.

Hobi studied the intensity of her movements, making sure she was doing the moves right since she had asked him about a few dance moves while practicing. Rapmon nodded his head to the beat while the Maknae Line started dancing, swaying in their seats. Periodically they would shout silly things to cheer her on.

“Perfect weather can’t get no better,” she rapped.

“OHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” the guys shouted as she started rapping on the couch.

Tonight, It’s the night

After getting off stage, she was met by high fives from the guys, who congratulated her on a job well done.

“I’m proud of smartie! She has done well with the rap!” Suga smiled at the camera.

“He’s so happy,” Hobi giggled.

Next up was V’s Cypher pt 3 solo stage which was what Jennie had been anticipating the most. She stood on the side of the stage with the members.

As the song began, V began bouncing. “Ohhhhh. Oh, oh, oh. Do you know this song?” he asked as Jennie danced with Hobi.

V even was wearing Suga’s outfit for the occasion as he began rapping his heart out.

Suga had his arms crossed as he chuckled while watching V rap. Jennie looked like a proud best friend watching him rap while the rest of the guys stood there, staring at him.

“Hi, I’m Kim Taehyung, I’m so happy I get to rap like this. Ho-ho-ho-ho-ho- oh shit!” he rapped passionately.

The guys continued to laugh as Jimin threw his body forward, holding his stomach while Jennie continued bopping around with a proud smile on her face. Everyone made their way on stage as V started bouncing around for the chorus.

As the chorus came on again, V started dabbing around and Jen joined him as they jumped all over the stage dancing with each other. Suga took over his own verse before V could as they all laughed. And then V joined in.

After the song ended, even the staff was laughing.

“You’re good,” Rapmon said.

“I’ll create a surprise twist,” Suga replied.

“Yeah, do the twist, then V goes and then we can-“

“Together. Everyone do it together,” Rapmon suggested.

“And then at the last chorus, we’ll all play together,” Hobi added.

“This wasn’t planned, right?” Jimin asked.

For the opening of the show, Jin and Jen waited for their cue as the camera was now on Jimin and J-Hope. The camera panned to them and they both picked up the piece of paper and held it together as it said, ‘BTS Happy Birthday’

They turned to each other, smiled, and started walking towards the stage. Then they turned around and blocked the camera with their hands.

“Hey, is this your first three year anniversary party?” Rapmon announced, opening up for Dope over the screaming fans who waved their Army Bombs.

After performing Dope, they stood on stage together and did their signature greeting. Rapmon started off by greeting the fans and saying that they were streaming on V-Live+. For the event, J-Hope and Jimin were today’s MCs.

“This segment is to recognize BTS’s three hard years and Army fans,” J-Hope announced. “It’s called BTS Awards.”

“Last week, we asked fans to pick our best photo, the best Bangtan Bomb, and the best moment for BTS,” Jimin said. “Let’s see the candidates and see who got first,”

There were chairs placed for each member as they took a seat. Jennie sat in between Suga and V. They checked out the candidates for best photo as they looked at the screen.

“Oh wow~!” Jen said. 

One was from the fire MV, the other was from their three year anniversary and the other seemed like it was from the Begins concert. The members watched as Jimin unveiled each photo which had a variety of dots on them to determine which one had the most votes.

“You need help?” Jennie laughed when Jimin pulled off the cover for the first picture but it almost fell over and J-Hope had to fix it.

“He always needs help,” Jungkook replied, making them laugh.

“Jimin, this almost fell over,” J-Hope said. “Don’t do that,”

In the end, the Begins concert photo got the most votes.

“Let’s pick our best BTS Bomb,” Jimin said as they looked at the screen.

The one where they were having fun in the hotel, got the most votes.

For BTS’ best moment, everyone voted for when they debuted. 

“That day was the start of our journey. So many memorable moments. We’re extremely grateful for you all being there for us for three years. Let’s hope for many more.” Jen beamed.

“We’re more than happy about this. I heard our Army fans have awards for us too,” Suga added.

“In our special BTS Awards, Army fans prepared awards for BTS,” J-Hope announced. “Rap Monster. The first of many. 772 Award.” he said as 772 meant clumsy.

“I present this award for his excellence. From BTS army fans June 13, 2016. There are other awards. Destroyed the world award.” Jimin announced.

That made Jen laugh with Rapmon and the audience. Rapmon also won the buy two shoes with 10,000 won award.

Jin won the looks good every day, Old Man’s Jokes, Everything tastes good/tasty meals, and Korean meals awards.

“He got five awards. I’m envious.” Suga said.

“Thank you. I’ll make an old man’s joke to honor this moment.” Jin said. “What’s the biggest nose in the world?”

Suga won ‘Otousan’, ‘Suga genius best man’ and ‘I can die for Naver’ awards. With the Otousan award, Hobi explained that Suga seems chic but cares for other members and fans. So like a father figure.

“I’ll do my best to be worthy of these awards. Thank you,” Suga replied.

J-Hope won dances like a God, shares hope with the world and You can depend on Hobi awards. Jimin won Jungkook’s mom award, fan café fairy and Fatal award. The fatal award was about his charm. V won A walking case study, Meant to be, and the T-Zone great looks award.

Jungkook won suspiciously quiet, Jungkook’s face but Jungkook’s body, and everyone’s guy award.

“Ennie~!” Jimin sang as cheers got louder once she stood up with a smile and made her way over to him. “Awards. Name. Jennie. I present to you the Smartie Gobbler award, Nike’s force of greatness and cutest DJ,“

“Why thank you very much,” she bowed, taking the paper. “One day I’ll be able to endorse Nike and become a true force of greatness for their product. Nike if you’re watching this, I am still available!”

“It’s been years. Someone from the company call her up,” Suga laughed.

She went to shake Jimin’s hand and then V eagerly shook her hand too before she went back to her seat.

“I want to give BTS an award. It goes like this, BTS always thinks of Army award,” Suga said and pointed to the crowd, making them cheer while Hobi laughed.

For the next segment, the members decide to make their own cake. A table was brought up on stage and there were two cakes on the table. Their table consisted of ingredients for them to decorate.

“Shouldn’t we just let Jennie do this? She bakes.” Jimin suggested.

“Yeah, a lot. And her baking is delicious.” Rapmon added.

“I actually baked these cakes,” Jen replied.

“Oh! Perfect!” Jin cheered.

“Thank goodness. It’s been a while since we had your delicious baking,“ V said.

“I also baked for Army. You’ll be receiving cupcakes that I made for you all,” she announced to loud cheers. “A token of my appreciation for embracing me here in Korea. Thank you again.”

“Awwwwww,” they responded and chanted her name, which caused her to smile and bow.

Bangtan was set to team up in two teams to decorate. For the teams, it was Jin, Jungkook, and Jimin going up against Rapmon, V and Jen.

“We have Jennie, it’s OK,” Rapmon said confidently.

As they decorated it, Jen used the icing to spell out BTS in a decorative way while V and Jimin began dancing around, entertaining the crowd.

“I need you to destroy these cookies. Destroy them and then sprinkle them all over. I don't care about it looking neat. It’ll look fine with the crumbs,” Jen said as Rapmon did what he was told.

After the time was up, their cakes were judged.

“If she wasn’t on our team, we would’ve screwed up the cake with the cream.” Rapmon laughed.

After the segment, they went to go change, meanwhile, a video was played of Bang PD. Backstage in a separate dressing room, Jen changed into her outfit for the Coming of Age Ceremony, wearing a suit. While she got ready, SOPE performed.

When she made her way to the stage, waiting to go on, she met up with Jungkook and Jimin. She high fived Jimin and turned to Jungkook.

"We got this!" she gave Jungkook a quick peck on the lips.

As the three of them got on stage, ARMY screamed and cheered as they performed effortlessly with Jennie singing the song and dancing in the middle sensually. 

After the performance, she quickly rushed backstage to change for the Full Moon performance. She wore an outfit similar to Sunmi's in the music video in black while going barefoot.

Sitting in a chair, the make up artist began to put red lipstick on her lips and finished up her look to make her look like a vampire just like Sunmi in her music video. 

After getting situated, she stood backstage, pacing around, as her nerves began to get to her.

“Perfect weather can get no better!” Hobi rapped as he made his way over to her with a bright smile. That helped calm her nerves and she let out a laugh. “You’re going to do great out there. Especially the rap,” he kissed her forehead.

Once it was her time to shine, she made her way to the stage. The stage was dark as the couch was placed in the middle, waiting for her. She kneeled behind it as she heard the crowd anticipating what was next. As the music started, she slowly rose up from the couch with the lights appearing on the stage. That piercing gaze in her eyes made fans scream as she made her way to the couch.

“Thank you! I love you!” she giggled and walked off the stage once the lights turned off.

After her performance, it was now time for V’s as he rapped cypher pt 3, dancing around the stage.

The members walked on the stage as they crossed their arms, staring at him while V rapped J-Hope’s verse. Jennie danced around, bopping to the beat, watching him proudly. She started laughing while V started poking J-Hope and then Rapmon. As planned, V and Suga rapped his verse.

Loud screams occurred as she covered her face and laughed.

“That was a very sexy stage, munchkin. You looked fierce.”

“Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh,” Jimin sang while Jungkook and Hobi copied her dance moves by exaggeratingly rubbing their hands together, staring at the camera, making everyone laugh.

“I want to praise V. He did such an amazing job. You worked hard and your dream to rap came true. I’m proud of you,” she grinned.

“Thank you Ennie,” he smiled happily and they high fived each other.

“It’s our third anniversary right?” Yoongi asked. “What if we start rising again?

Suddenly Rise of Bangtan came on, hyping the crowd up while the members jumped around.

While the rest of the guys danced around on stage, Jennie made her way to the stage, standing in the background with a mic in hand.

The guys surrounded her, hyping her up as she performed her verse.

“WHOO! My boys and I started at the bottom, now we rising up! And Watch out cause this bullet-proof girl is knockin’ down all the walls! Ain’t nothing stoppin’ us now, they got my back, I got theirs! We steppin’ over all the roadblocks. Our music is on and you can’t help but move to the rhythm. Don’t even try to hide it, this beat is sick, so rock with me now.”

She danced around all extra with the members.

“Ladies! Rise like a Bulletproof Girl Scout! Rise, be brave! Let's go, Jungkook!” She high fived him as he started rapping.

As the chorus came back on again, she threw her head around, dancing with J-Hope.

After they finished the song, Satoori Rap came on, as the rap line performed with the vocal line jumping and dancing around on stage. Jennie milly rocked on stage with Jin and V joining. 

Fire came on, which excited the crowd even more as they performed and they wore special jerseys for the occasion. After the song, Namjoon began the closing remarks as the event was about to end. A chorus of awwws was heard. He then asked the members how they felt about fire being suited for them. After their closing remarks, they ended the festa with fun boys.

After the show, Jennie, V, and Hobi went out to have a night picnic while walking Tony.

Tony energetically ran around, playing with V as they were all seated on the grass, enjoying their food and light music in the background. The three reminisced on their festa event and Tony was lying down, enjoying belly rubs from V.

Looking up at Jennie who finished listening to Hobi about his performance with Yoongi, V said, “Ennie, I want to say thank you for hyping me up when I was performing and practicing for Cypher. It made me very happy. I appreciate that.”

Jen smiled softly as Tony nuzzled against her. “Of course! You deserve it. Now hopefully one day the rap line can put you on a cypher-”

“Noooooooo,” Hobi interrupted as they laughed. “Yoongi would have a fit.”

“Well, we’re still going to try and make it happen,” she replied.

The night consisted of laughter as the two boys made fun of her dancing to Full Moon. She retaliated by kicking Hobi in the butt, making him fall.

After they finished eating, they lay on their backs, in a circle and watched the stars.

She took a selfie of them and posted it on Instagram. 'Thank you for 3 wonderful years of BTS! I love y'all!'

Her comment section was flooded with positive responses and unfortunately Matt Rife even commented again.

Which caused fans to comment to him to back off once again.

Jen checked her phone to see a surprise text from Chanyeol.

Chanyeol: Hey Jennie! Congrats on three years with BTS! I wanted to discuss something with you. We have music on our repackaged album that will be released in a few months. We were thinking of having a second version of a song or two with a feature in it. We thought it would be great to have you featured in one of them if you’re interested.

That surprised her. A song with EXO? That would be so fun!

Jen: omg yes! ABSOLUTELY! Send it, please! I want to hear it!

Chanyeol: Yay! I’m sending them now.

She then received two audio recordings.

Chanyeol: What do you think? Do you think we can create something? Lay and Sehun can teach you the choreography. We can work on the lyrics. We’re making music videos for them too. It would be a pleasure for you to be in it too.

Putting her earbuds in, she pressed play while looking up at the stars. The beats for them were sick as she fell in love with the sound. She felt a sense of empowerment with it too, thinking of various ideas.

Jen: Omg.

Jen: Are you kidding?

Chanyeol: Don’t like the songs? :(

Jen: No goofball! This is lit! Both of them!

Chanyeol: So you’ll do it?!

How would Sonic x Eggman x infinite work??

LGC CHARMS JAPAN: THE RADIO

over the years, LEGACY ENTERTAINMENT's groups have released several japanese singles and albums. in more recent years, with LGC CHARMS JAPAN, they have shown a desire to further their presence in japanese media. as such, starting this trimester, the company will be having a PERMANENT radio show on Nippon Cultural Broadcasting that will air weekly for 45 minutes from 2200JST Sunday evenings. each week, the radio show will feature various legacy artists cross talk, reading of fan mail, and several other segments. the current PERMANENT HOSTS are HIRAWA EMI, KANG SARANG PARK TAEHA and TAKANASHI ASAMI. each trimester, a total FOUR GUESTS will also be invited as per the following schedule:

GUESTS AND THEME

each trimester, a different theme will be picked and some guest restrictions may be placed.

for the current trimester, the THEME is INTRODUCTION; since the show is new and most of the hosts unknown to the public, the goal this trimester will be for listeners to get to know them as well as their guests. episodes may center around anything that achieves this goal like TMI, MBTI, hobbies, skills, favorites (colors, food, cities), ect.

EACH HOST will be in charge of picking their GUEST through an ON DASH PLOT CALL, with priority given to any JAPANESE ARTIST OR TRAINEE (must have at least 60 japanese points) or any DEBUTED ARTIST with over 65 JAPANESE POINTS.

REMINDER: this is a PROFESSIONAL setting. as such, even if conversations touch personal matters, both the HOST and GUEST need to keep a good etiquette. the show isn't to talk about friendship, familty ties or past between the hosts and guests, but for listeners to be entertained. furthermore, if a host cannot maintain a completely professional conversation comfortably and without awkwardness or tension with someone, they shouldn't pick that person as a guest.

I haven’t watched them yet for myself, but I’m not hearing great things about the final S1 episodes of EarthSpark, and it still feeds into my primary problem with TFs: Hasbro and current writers still don’t know what to do with the Decepticons. It makes perfect sense on one hand that the Earth bound Decepticons would help in defeating Mandroid’s goal of eradicating all Transformers on Earth, but… Then what. The Decepticons had been causing problems still on Earth, and they understandably are ticked off at humans locking them up, but now they’re apparently buddy buddy with the Autobots and Maltos? Something feels rushed here. Feels more like in other circumstances, Starscream’s unit would be all “We’re only helping because Earth is where we keep our stuff: after that it’s back to trying to take over this dust ball!”

I dunno, I like that Starscream has an honest friendship with Hashtag, but I think I would’ve preferred it if the dynamic was similar to Silverbolt, Rampage, and Transmutate: a young, impressionable character caught between two friends’ conflicting beliefs. Starscream genuinely cares for Hashtag, but in a self destructive Jason Dean/Holly Viola kinda way, and thinks she’d be much happier with the Decepticons/her own kind instead of slumming it up with the Autobots and fleshlings. The arc would be Hashtag and Starscream in a conflicted friendship that involves Hashtag deciding if she’s an Autobot or Decepticon, and what that means for her family. It’s this sorta thing I think I would’ve liked more from the show, instead of what feels like everyone being Heroic Autobots and slightly more agitated Autobots.

Mandroid and GHOST also have a sort of sloppy conclusion…? It reminds me of what became of Cilas and MECH, especially how MECH ceased to be without Cilas, despite implications Cilas was part of a larger cog. Sort of annoying that seems to be repeated here, as if they can’t fully commit to new leadership in GHOST, for better or worse. Ideally, I say what should happen is Schloder takes over GHOST and it becomes a proper heroic Human-Transformer unit, however those loyal to Croft and distrusting of the Decepticons and Autobots go off to form a splinter faction: a new version of RAAT, MECH or Cemetery Wind.

Still I don’t want to make any rash assumptions. Shockwave wound up being controlled by Mandroid so I don’t see him becoming a new Decepticon leader atm, which was the prevailing assumption for S2. There MIGHT be Quintessons because of Quintus Prime and the mystery of where Mandroid has been and where he got his new gear and Sharkticons, but the writing of this show sounds like it went down hill, so any potential hints or plot threads might not be followed up on.

Soundwave’s deal with Ravage is never explained. Ravage, barring S2, doesn’t reappear. It was assumed they were planning a prison break, but Hashtag accidentally caused that to happen instead. The official guidebook for EarthSpark does offer an explanation: Soundwave is a mole planted by Optimus and Megs to confirm the location of the Allspark. Apparently the implication is the two leaders might be thinking GHOST acquired it in the explosion, or it was sent back to Cybertron as intended. But I’m not sure I trust the guidebook either as it makes references to mostly scrapped preproduction stuff like usage of the Ark and Nightshade’s originally more vague gender identity (they originally identified as Terran and saw no purpose for gender as a mechanical being. Admittedly this makes the in-show discussion about being non-binary with Sam make much more sense), and having a gargoyle beast mode instead of an owl one.

There’s also the EarthSpark video game, whose potential canon is up for debate once we get the full context, but the game sees Bumblebee take on Mandroid’s Decepticons (?) to stop Mandroid’s latest nefarious scheme. Mandroid is also in his earlier healthy state seen earlier in the season where as he’s pretty much a wigged out, disheveled addict now. Also, Simon Furman helped write the game, so his contributions shall be fun to see. Grimlock is in the game, so maybe he wrote that campaign lol.

The show also talks a bit more about the other Primes besides Quintus, with it being pointed out by a fan that Optimus is NOT the 13th Prime. For context, Aligned explained in ancillary media that Optimus is the resurrected 13th Prime known as The Arisen. Apparently Optimus was indeed online during the era of the Thirteen and fought Unicron before, only “dying” in a great sacrifice that saw him reborn as Orion Pax. IDW would lean into this, but neither confirm or deny it, with Optimus hesitantly using the Caminus religion about the Primes to his advantage in continued peace post war. The Optimus being The 13th plot was very unpopular, so EarthSpark dodging the issue is pry for the best, but I could see them coyly reference it with The Arisen appearing and being voiced by Peter Cullen.

Anyway, the continued dodging of the Decepticons as the primary villains and not committing to new ones persists and it continues to annoy me. If we got Quints, Predacons, Terrorcons or even Primacron as ongoing replacements that’d be one thing, but we’re not. It makes me even more intrigued but also concerned about Skybound. On one hand the Decepticons are back to being the villains, but the starting line up lacks Megatron which feels like a red flag to me. Instead it appears Starscream is the leader, which I’m fine with but the continued… well demotion of Megatron to antihero doesn’t bode well for the Decepticons in future media (and no TF One doesn’t count because it’s ANOTHER Aligned/IDW/Cyberverse origin story). Skybound could be saving Megatron for a big reveal/showdown like IDW1 and Animated did, but I frankly don’t trust Hasbro to let Megatron be bad again. I hope I’m wrong though and we get the old revels in bring cartoonishly evil Megatron in Skybound at least.

Here’s to EarthSpark S2 addressing its unresolved bits, and finding a new villainous Transformer team that’s not the Decepticons if that’s the path they’re choosing. I’m not holding out hope for a season 3 right now because of the current Hollywood strikes, and while I hear animation isn’t affected, that could change on a dime I fear.
