you said you had a script for negotiating for secondhand things. What is it?

For me, for these kinds of small person-to-person sales, the goal is to get a good deal but also leave the seller feeling like they didn't get hosed, like they talked me into a deal. So there's strategic reasons for this script, but it's also honest. I'm not going to lie to the seller, and I'm not going to be rude.

I mostly use this on Marketplace. If someone lists something as a firm price, I'm not going to ask them to reduce it; if it's been listed for a long time I may ask if they're still firm on price, and if the answer is yes, I respect that. If it's something awesome and it's a good price, I don't bother with this. Otherwise, here's how it usually goes.

Availability: Still for sale?

Inquiry: I have a question about _____. (Size, color, function, etc. Not a question already answered in the description.)

Gratitude: Thank you for answering the question, that makes things clearer for me. This, and the inquiry, are about building rapport and investment in the conversation. They've put a little time into talking and they don't want it to be wasted.

Reservation: I have a concern about why this may not work for me. (Indicating you're on the fence on the sale, and they should move their price point to hook you.) This can be concerns about matching with other things you have, functionality, whatever.

Opening Offer: Your ideal, too-good-to-be-true price. For me this is often about a third below the listed price.

Answer: The seller either counters with another number, agrees to your opening offer, or says they're firm on the listed price.

Counter or Close: If they're firm on price, take it or leave it. If they countered, you can make another offer (typically somewhere around the halfway point between your two numbers) or accept the number they gave. You can continue making offers as long as you want but for most people it'll be offer-counter-final offer.

Say thank you. Arrange payment and pickup.

I'm sure the lotus juice part's written from the protagonist's point of view, but the parts where Azumi Takahashi(the lead singer) sings, it seems like the lyric's being sung from someone who's been watching the protagonist rather than the protag himself. This person seems to be cheering him on, aware of all of his journeys and acknowledges it all

I think this should be ryoji. I think this song's sung from ryoji's perspective. Him and the protagonist are singing together because they work like metaphors of life and death, they're pretty much inseparable and were essentially in a single body for a long period of time. To live life to the fullest, you have to acknowledge death too. So I think they're singing together this time for the remake Carpe Diem and all

you know how in burn my dread the protag "grapples down the god of fear and throws him into hell's fire?" I love that so much btw, I think it's a powerful take on living life head-on

but Full Moon Full Life might be making this "god of fear" and the protagonist make peace and sing together in harmony.

If that's the case, I think that's so beautiful and displays another way to embrace life

I think it's really important that soon after the reveal that Toshiro hated Laios the entire time they were adventuring together and just never said so, Kabru makes clear, in a way that Laois understands, that he intends to meet Laios again. He's crafting his words very carefully (in the English "I'm glad that we met. I got so much out of talking to you.") but by god he means them and he's not just being polite.

Laios has just learned someone he thought was a dear friend couldn't stand him, which is painful to watch and has resonated with lots of neurodivergent viewers, but that realization is followed with proof that there are and will be people that care about Laios as he is: here's another character, one who's great with people, making the effort to know Laios and establishing that he wants to continue knowing Laios.

I keep thinking about a Yuuei AU where Keigo is a student until like halfway through second year his dad gets arrested as a villain and he only stays for a few more months before the side-looks and bullying and different treatment from teachers finally makes him snap. As if them working with a son of a villain is so much more difficult than him losing his father and basically losing his mother too. And it really doesn't help that his (former) best friend's dad was the one who took him away.

So one day he just withdraws from the school and no one is able to get in contact with him again. Until years later when pro hero Dabi sees a report that the previously petty criminal Hawks has been seen working with the League of Villains and has, by association, been bumped up to the classification of villain. And Touya, as a hero, doesn't deal with criminals so he had absolutely no idea that was where Keigo had ended up, nor was he aware of the name "Hawks" that his former friend was going by.

And he doesn't know what to do, because they weren't really friends at the end. They fell off hard and there was a lot of tension and spitting insults and glares up until the point Keigo left the school. But he's an adult now, and he's delt with much more, so it's given a different perspective on the situation. He hates himself for acting so defensive and reactive to Keigo's anger when It's clear that he was just hurting and felt as if everyone had turned their back on him.

But now the question is if he can get that through to Hawks before the villain does something he can't come back from.

I’m mainly just watching dangerous romance for MarcPawin. Lost interest in the main plot a while ago 😅 The GuyNawa scenes in this episode were amazing. Also I’m glad we’re not gonna get just a fist bump or high five in the last episode from them 😂

I love Perth and Chimon but idk, their chemistry together just falls flat for me here. They're somehow so subdued in this, like they were told to hold back. The whole series feels like that. I'd love it so much more if it was grittier but I guess they wanted something more palatable.

MarcPawin totally stole the show today though - and all of that with one (1) scene! I love it when they let Marc be angry. He's so intimidating somehow (maybe because his acting usually is so quiet?).

I also loved how it visibly broke Nawa's heart to be so cruel to Guy. That was such a meaningful and raw back and forth between them.

Yesterday's poll decided that The Adventurer should curiously socialize with a few of the boat travelers ...

"The Adventurer grabs one of the ornate glass bowls near the buffet table, meekly gathering some cheese and vegetables as he scans the crowd. For the first 15 minutes of the lunch, he mostly crouches in a corner seat, nibbling on his food and nervously fielding the occasional drunken question from a passing party guest..

Knowing he should.. probably... actually socialize at some point, he begrudgingly chooses conversational partners, squeezing his eyes shut and pointing around randomly until he lands on someone.....

The first is a scrawny man in a flashy suit, wobbly from wine but still keeping a vaguely charming demeanor about him. He proudly introduces himself as a "legal expert", then goes on to ramble for a while about the laws in the area, how drastically they vary from city to city (plus a few veiled hints on how to safely break them), and that if you travel a lot it can be hard to keep up with it all.

He mentions, quite conveniently, that he's recently published a book on the topic, a legal guide for local explorers, and offers to give The Adventurer a copy for a special discounted price... but... then soon recalls that the crate of books he'd planned to sell on the boat sadly ended up falling into the river earlier during a "silly little mishap"..

In place of a book, he simply slides The Adventurer a glossy mint colored paper swirled with golden floral motifs, supposedly serving as some sort of business card, though the actual contact information seems obscured beneath the cluttered design. The Lawyer also pulls off his scarf as he rises to leave, wrapping it around The Adventurer's shoulders with a little waving flourish (not the first time someone has confused his anxious shaking for cold shivers). The Adventurer stutters out a confused thank you, then watches as the Lawyer stumbles off, mumbling to himself that he's been drinking too much and "truly must find somewhere to piss"......

The second person he approaches is an older woman, hunched over a table fidgeting with a handful of colorful glass dice, spinning and stacking and arranging them into patterns whilst her thoughts drift elsewhere. Initially, she gives evasive answers when asked personal questions, but soon grows more talkative once the topic of local flora and fauna arises. She apparently used to adventure as well, roaming the lands to document various elements of nature relevant to her mysterious "private research" - though, at her age, she's now resigned to casual boat rides rather than riskily hiking alone through uncharted wilderness. Gently laying a worn leather journal of watercolor paintings out onto the tabletop, she points at various berries, leaves, and animals, eagerly describing their significance...

After chatting for a while, she abruptly changes topics, mentioning that sometimes she can "sense things which she should not" (whatever the hell that means), then asks him to pick one of her dice. He hesitates, but she just stares, refusing to elaborate further.. Finding even 30 seconds of awkward silent eye contact physically impossible to bear, he hurriedly plops a finger down in front of an iridescent yellow die. She chuckles..

Scooping up all of the dice from the table, she rattles them in her clasped hands, then brings them up to her ear as if to listen... to something?? A few moments later, she turns back to him, speaking in a raspy whisper: "There are others, melding your footprints with their own, seeking a gift you do not yet know - this is what I see."

Before he can ask her for any elaboration, the Captain returns, grumbling that The Adventurer has already stayed 5 minutes past the time limit and swatting at him with a broom to shoo him off of the boat. Apparently an hour can go by fast....

After climbing back into his dinky raft, he sails mostly successfully down the river, finally making it to a point that, at least based on his map, SHOULD be where the main road picks back up past the detour. He crashes into a small grouping of rocks whilst trying to navigate back to the shore, but he was planning on disassembling the raft to get his rope and supplies back anyway, so.. aside from a scraped knee and possibly broken pinky toe, he decides it's actually fine. The cat is okay, which is all that really matters, anyhow.

By the time he's taken apart his boat, eaten a quick meal, and bandaged his leg, the sun seems to have nearly set. It's later in the night than he'd usually like to travel, but, where he's going is a pretty commonly used road, so maybe it's safe? He's exhausted from socializing, but could probably muster enough energy to walk for at least a while. Or perhaps he should just call it a night and find a place to sleep.. But.. where??? What should he do?

Favorite Piece of Gameplay Music: Scutum - Decisive Battle. Pour one out for Rebirth having the fucking BEST battle theme ever.

Most Shocking Reveal: ??? I'm... not sure at this point. Giet??? was it Senel??? maybe Mathias and Ruca??? Ratatosk and Emil??? I kind of want to say Ratatosk and Emil because I remember being very impressed with the direction of the plot, in that the main protagonist/player character was actually the villain the whole time that the antagonist was trying to kill the whole time. definitely not a plot direction you usually get in JRPGs. Giet's story still hit like an entire brick building 100 storeys high falling on me though

Favorite One on One Fight: that was actually FUN??? uhhh idk Vicious against Kasque. what did you expect me to say???

Favorite Skit: way too many skits to have even a semblance of an idea. I'm going to assume it was either something related to Yuri and Flynn, Moses, Vicious, Spada or Stahn. that's about the closest I can pinpoint

Favorite Tales Spell: I don't... think I have one...

Favorite Tales Weapon: -bangs fist on desk and gets really obvious really fast- BLOOD SINS, BLOOD SINS, BLOOD SINS. after that the Swordians

Tales World You Want to Live In: honestly Legendia's and Graces' seem the most reasonably normal compared to the rest, but also shiny fingertips and Moses is a pretty solid Legendia

Favorite Animated Tales Series/OVA: (don't say rays don't say rays don't say rays don't say stahn/leon) probably First Strike if only because it focuses on Yuri and Flynn who I love, but Abyss' anime was very solid compared to the other Tales animated series that were just heavily condensed versions (or worse in Eternia's case, not even being relevant to the main story). like, I would not recommend the animated series to anyone prior to playing the game except for Abyss, which is the full major story and I have inarguably rewatched that anime more than I've played the game. I guess in terms of general animated, FS, but in terms of actual consistency to the game it came from and dedication it had in retelling the story faithfully without skipping 80 percent of it, Abyss

Favorite Tales Outfit: RICHARD??? HEEEELLO??? not arc F though that shit is too fruity for me. also Leon has VERY enjoyably bright colors that make him stand out and as a Very Deeply Definitely Not Obsessive Leon Enjoyer, I very much love that. Aegis also has a really nice outfit. Asbel's is pretty but definitely not Richard level of I'm obsessed with this look

Favorite Game Plot: -breaks everything in your room and your neighbor's room for good measure- TURN IT BACK ON NAMCO I'M PAST MY LIMIT SO I'M PROBABLY IN OVERLIMIT (Crestoria. it's that or I'm saying Legendia again. Innocence and Hearts both are really close runner ups tho!!! definitely the most unique in the franchise imo out of the mainline games and sadly confined to "nobody fucking cares about them and never did")

Favorite Game Ending: so that's got... layers. it really depends on the sub topic. I guess in terms of a happy ending, Graces (the Wii version specifically, getting Richard back. don't really care for the ending of arc F and lean more toward disliking it). in terms of a depressing fucking ending that makes me Very Upsetti, Destiny. there is literally nothing happy about Destiny's ending for me. like yeah we saved the world, but at a LOT of cost and it's just depressing. I've wanted to make a post about that anyway, but basically it's a type of ending they don't really make anymore (especially in Tales), and the emotional impact for me was a lot heavier than the other games, with Destiny 2 lingering right behind it. both Destiny games were just DEPRESSING, and no matter how bittersweet Destiny 2's ending was, it's still DEPRESSING. Vesperia at least had a more outright happy ending (that wasn't completely changed by a post game ending arc with a totally different ending) and I finally at that point didn't lose my favorite character to Certain Final Boss Death or Recurring Side Character I Came To Love Dying Unceremoniously and Undeserved. only a couple of top favorites actually came out of their games alive for me by Vesperia in terms of games I know + release timeline (to put it into perspective, by the time of Vesperia in release order (so not the order I played in bc I don't really remember the whole actual order at this point), out of all the games I know, my favorite character death toll was five to three survivors not counting Vesperia. still haven't played Eternia so I'm not counting that one). so I guess like, my answer is a whacky combination of Graces for the Wii, Destiny and Vesperia. maybe if Hearts hadn't killed my mans off then it could've had it all. 😔

OH honestly i love these two also. even though there is less like. on-screen pretext for it in the rich world of the backstory that exists only in my brain they have Plenty in common in that they are... i cannot explain this better than "they are the two different types of church choir lifer." irving knows everything and takes all of it deadly seriously hodgson knows everything mostly so that he can joke about it. they meet in the middle

hodge's dad was a vicar in real life (and was also the dean of carlisle cathedral), so young hodgson was probably like. picked up by the scruff of the neck and deposited in the choir, and found that he liked it (this is partly self-projection but he liked it because it gelled particularly with The Autism, Not That That Was Named In The 19th Century) and he stuck with it as an adult.

irving i am going to say got into All That a bit later than hodge, who could never escape really (irving when he moved to portsmouth to join the naval college). and while hodge is in a constant state of "just happy to be included" irving does not have much of a sense of identity. like he needs to be doing Something Tangible in order to exist and struggles to conceptualise himself outside of that. so that's another plate of armour over the big humming agitated cloud of ????? that makes up The Person That He Actually is.

so they do constantly make jokes that are hilarious Just To Them, from the Exclusive Book Of Church Choir Lifer Jokes which little, who cannot carry a tune, is not particularly party to. this surprisingly does not annoy little despite the fact that he usually gets a bit :< when he is left out of a joke. (but it does, on the other hand, piss crozier completely the fuck off.) and it does also give them a kind of extra Level of language to be able to communicate "this Thing is troubling me and i am not sure why but i am being gnawed" to each other.

re: netflix shenanigans, i was looking for a particular danhan quote about netflix but 1) well i did actually eventually find the interview i was looking for -- where danhan states he was asked to be less involved later on in the show 2) also wound up rereading the joe tracz interview from after s3 where he talks a lot about the writing process on the show and tv in general/the direction the show went requiring more of a visual mystery and answers, and not necessarily who did what in the writer’s room but also, who did what (like danhan being the one to remove widdershins) 3) ALSO found an interview from last year where danhan himself talked a little about adaptations of his work with some interesting statements:

I want to ask about actually seeing your work on screen and having it adapted. Is it still your work when you see it translated? What is your relationship with your work once it goes off the page?

The big difference is that for something, particularly for something that is as enormously and lavishly done as in the Snicket media, it’s very collaborative. It helps to be collaborative, you know? I mean, not just the writing of the screenplays, but there’s people acting out words and there are people building the sets and there are people composing the music and playing the music and recording the music – every little piece of it is immensely collaborative, and so the whole thing is very collaborative.

I’m always really interested to see what people are doing. It was really nice to go to the set of Netflix and talk with some of the costume designers just about how happy they were to get to make things up. You know? One of them said, I’ve done so many cop shows. I’m so tired of sitting in a room and talking about what sweater a famous person is going to wear, just the idea that now I get to build these ridiculous things is what I’ve always wanted to do. And that kind of makes me happier than anything involved with me about it. I just think, oh my God, here’s an opportunity for this person who loves to make costumes to make something ridiculous, to make exactly what they want to make. That’s really fun for me.

I was tempted to give the answer, “No, it’s not my work anymore,” but that sounds more negative about it than I feel. What I feel is I love to see people run with things, and who have thought a lot about what the source material is and take it from there. And some people are more positive than others, and then sometimes the results are not as lovely as I would hope for, but I just think watching people make hay with it is the most interesting part for me.
