A short fic about online studying during quarantine with Yves

You yawned, watching your lecturer drone on about a subject that you couldn't care less about, but have to take to pass your course. You stretched your arms and leaned back onto your comfortable office chair... well, Yves's.

While those poor suckers in the online meeting had to attend the class using their own subpar laptops and be in their inferior bedrooms they most likely have to share with other members of the family, you're enjoying the pandemic in Yves's lavish home. No worries about food, entertainment, hygiene, technology or comfort, Yves has it all covered.

You propped your cheek up on an elbow, struggling not to doze off to the monotonousness of it all. Your ears slightly perked up when you heard the door open, but you didn't make a move.

Yves gave your shoulder an affectionate massage as he placed a bowl of succulent fruits, packed with Vitamin C and flavour, onto the table next to the RGB mechanical keyboard you requested him to buy for you.

He kissed you on the cheek as a greeting, and reached out to press a key. You had forgotten to mute yourself this entire time, luckily he had caught it now.

"Studying well?" He asked, voice quiet and smooth. Yves draped his arms around your neck from the back. He rested the side of his cheek on the crown of your head, letting his luscious locks cascade down and tickle your face.

You complained that your lecturer sucked at retaining students' attention while stuffing your face with the sliced fruits, Yves merely nodded along and stroked your hair.

You asked if he could stay in the room with you while you go about your day, entering video calls to video calls. It gets lonely and very tiresome.

"Of course, my love. I am more than happy to." He smiled. Yves lets go of you.

"Stand up, please." You did, and moved aside, knowing what he's going to do.

Yves took a seat on the swivel chair, pushing it backwards to allow some space between the desk and himself. He has his arms open, inviting you to come sit on his lap.

You crawled into his hold and snuggled deeply into him. Yves pressed numerous kisses onto your neck and ears as you shifted yourself to get comfortable. Once you're settled, he closed the embrace and pulled the chair nearer to the desktop.

You craned your neck to give him a sweet little peck on the lips, to which, he appreciates very much. A chuckle left him as he cuddled you closer to him.

"I love you." Despite being a whisper, it drowned out the painful robotic voice of your lecturer and made the class much more bearable. You returned the sentiment only to be met with another appreciative kiss on the top of your head.

His loving caresses and his inky tresses that you would play with absentmindedly, allowed you to focus on your lesson. It's oddly crystal clear now and not as agonizing.

Yves would occasionally check your knowledge by verbally quizzing you. His praises and tenderness were to die for, it made you strive to be the smartest so you could please him. But there weren't any repercussions if you didn't understand anything, he would simply explain it to you in a way you would easily grasp.

Whenever you're about to fall asleep, Yves would sensually stroke under your chin to wake you up. It was always pleasantly ticklish and such an attention booster. Yves would then proceed to massage your hands, caring for each joint and muscle.

You would sigh and melt into him as he ends the massage by intertwining his slender fingers with yours. Quarantine may be torture to some, but never to you, as Yves would make it seem like paradise.

as soon as the webcam feed populated the screen, your comment section explodes. his eyes widen like a deer as he tries to catch whatever was being spammed in the chatbox.

"baby, say hi." regaining a bit of composure, gyuvin's normal cheery self comes back. he flashes your viewers that giant smile of his and waves at the webcam.

"woah, staring into this tiny camera is weird. anyways, i'm gyuvin, yn's-- or i guess you all know them as @/not.an_aimbot on here-- partner."

he pauses to stare at you, deadpanning hard. "have i ever told you how stupid your username is?"

you give his shoulder a light smack, which helps his grin return to his face. "hey! i'm just kidding! kind of!" to which he receives another smack.

"how dare you?! you've only been on stream for what... eight seconds and you're already trying to drag my username?" you puff your cheeks a bit in frustration.

"yeah. and?" he grabs your puffed cheeks and smushes them. hard. as you bark whine at him to stop, he decides to deal more damage. "it's like what a 11 year old boy who thinks they're good would name themselves."

after enduring his sweet gesture torturing for what felt like an eternity, he backs off. finally having your cheeks back in your custody, you continue trekking on. "i'm going to ignore that and move on then." you face the webcam again, eyes carefully trained on the lens. "gyu's here so i can deflate his massive ego via kicking his ass in pubg."

gyuvin huffs. "in your dreams."

"my user isn't just like that for show, y'know. i am pretty damn good."

he gives your hair a light ruffle, breaking character a bit. "i know you are, bubs. you're the best. but i have an embarrassing amount of hours on this game and i will not go down without fight." he proceeds to enter a fighting stance, fists up against the webcam.

and suddenly you're giggling like crazy because holy shit, your boyfriend was a dork. it seemed like your chat had the same idea. "ok loser, stop trying to fight the camera and enter the lobby."

"'aimbot's carrying as usual. gyuvin... he's trying.' @/not.a_luvbot, well said."

"hey!!" gyuvin grumbles, hands frantically smashing the keyboard for some avail. unfortunately, from the glimpses you took at his pov, it didn't seem to help. meanwhile, you were picking up kill after kill, but somehow couldn't find your partner, who you deeply desired to shoot dead.

"baby, where are you? i have a gift for you." you smile brighter than you have this entire stream when gyuvin shrieks at you to quote, "no!!!! take that gift and shove it up your a-".

since you were doing so well, you decide to take a hard-earned break to admire you boy. his little quirks when concentrating, like his eyebrow furrowing comically and him nibbling on his lower lip, were just so endearing. even the obnoxious rgb lighting of his headset highlighted his features breathtakingly. you give yourself a mental pat on the back for pulling this specimen of a partner.

but you had the gift of death to bestow on the egotist next to you, so you had to get to work. you move a bit so you're on some high ground and watch as your boyfriend, god bless his soul, hobbles into view. he was badly injured already, the poor thing.

oh well.

with a click of your finger, he's dead and gone. i mean, there was a reason you had to clarify you weren't an aimbot, no? the match is called and the username he so abhorred sprawls across your screen (next to the iconic "winner winner chicken dinner" of course) triumphantly.

"i wasn't on my game! babe!!"

you shrug, watching as "gg"s flooded the comments. "yep, good game y'all. bad game to you gyu."

"one more match."

"that's what you've been saying for the past three rounds. i hate to break it to you, but you've been absolutely trashed by a prepubescent boy with no naming sense. three times in a row."

"babyyy..." you don't miss the pout that starts to tug on his lips. it makes you scoff and melt at the same time.

"it's okay gyu, you can be my trophy wife or something." he snorts at that, minor tantrum seemingly forgotten. he gets up from his stream, giving your cheek a quick peck before exiting from the camera's view. you curled up at the top of the bed, watching the tv so hard you were starting to make out the lines and the rgb of whatever lame show you were watching. it was quite late, shigaraki clicking away at his keyboard. his game was on its last hour of comp, and you didn't give a fuck about your rank anymore. shigaraki would always be better than you.

"there's no point." you muttered, pulling out your phone for the millionth time to mindlessly scroll another social media feed. being poor villains sucked.

"shut up bitch." he said back. not loud, not a shout, not even angry. a common phrase told to you, by everyone in here including your boyfriend. you couldn't even roll your eyes anymore.

"you'll always be just barely good, tomu. you know that?" you moved your eyes to his form, hunched over grossly at his cheap desk. duct tape wrapped around the arm rests, his leg bouncing, trash surrounding him. "so i don't get what's the point in you playing so much."

"better than being with you, that's what."

you scoffed. "fuck you."

"i'll fuck you up after this game."

shigaraki was right. he wasn't shy to beat you every now and then, every so often, every chance he got. bruising your wrists and throat, slapping you raw, choking you unconscious, slashing your thighs or upper body while holding you down with his weight.

"i'll kill you." you spat before wrapping up in the blanket. that wasn't to say you didn't get your fair share either, screwing with him emotionally was your form of revenge. he was physical, and you were mean. "and then you can face the family you murdered once and for all."

he only sighed, a last glance catching him shaking his head. whatever. you were going to look at the much more attractive people on tiktok. you wish you were as pretty and skinny as all these girls, but shigaraki doesn't fail to mention how disgusting you are with all the scarring and how he's ruined you for anyone else. he tells you to leave all the time, even kicks you out in the streets, only for you to come back a few hours later with teary eyes and a regretful grimace. he mocks you all the time for it and does a stupid voice impression that could only be you.

because of this, you starve yourself. starve for him, for shigaraki tomura. you feel serene and feminine and beautiful when he brushes along your ribs. when he wraps his fingers around your wrist and slowly trails up your arm to your elbow, squishing the bit of upper arm fat. "you need to get rid of this too." he would whisper, a pinky dangerously close to your flesh.

you nod weakly, placing a hand on top of his. "i'm trying... it's been two days since i've ate, you know."

he smiles. a forehead kiss. "let's make it three."

he wasn't entirely cruel. he would inadvertently starve with you, staying up for days playing video games or go on long trips with only a few granola bars or juice packs. but even when he did eat, there would be no difference. he knew that too, flaunting his warm pizza in your face and chewing disgustingly loud. guzzling down soda. eating chocolate or other sweets. your eye twitched, suddenly opening the side table and pulling out a special box.

"oh!" shigaraki exclaimed with a mouthful of disgusting food.

you opened it up, taking out your designated box cutter, fit with cute stickers and pink tape barely holding it together. you guys get rough sometimes, and sometimes things break.

with clenched teeth and teary eyes you dug the blade into your wrist. dragging- slowly, slowly. then ripped it away from you, causing a deep gash and the white layer of skin breaking through, seeping blood. a small moan escaped your lips. shigaraki swiveled around in his chair to watch you move down the small open spaces on your arm, leaning forward everytime you made a pained noise. flicking his wide eyes over when you started rummaging around the box for the small rag.

he stood up and grabbed your arm before you could wipe it all away. all the precious blood, from inside you, warm and wet and delicious.

"i'll clean it for you." he said ever so softly. your lips wavered as he ran his tongue from the inside of your elbow slowly down your forearm, lapping it all up. you told him to clean his mouth before moving up to the fresh wounds, you didn't want all that gross food grease and fat particles getting into your blood stream.

he continued licking, using his thumbs to spread open the bigger ones, making you wince. "you're so cute." he grinned, fingertip dragging lightly down the slits.

"ah, you're so dirty... and gross..." your arm felt weak, body shaking. but it felt so good. another moan, louder, as he squeezed your skin together to make the blood come out again. he kissed you, irony and with adoration.

"do it to me." he panted between sloppy kisses, occupied with palming himself through his pj pants and holding up your arm. you did as told, rolling up his sleeves for him and pushing him back on the bed. a moment to appreciate his pale and bony arms, purple and blue branches of veins scattering all over and god you wanted him to bleed out.

a shiver of excitement shot through his back as the tip of the blade pierced skin. a slight twitch of his hips when you started to slowly move- a shaky moan and eyes to the back of the head when the familiar sting and pain formed at the base of his wrist.

"you have such pretty veins, tomu... i wanna pull them out. think i could pull them out? i'm sure overhaul could put you back together." you whispered into his ear, slashing a couple more times. he grinded into you, holding the small of your back. his fingers felt up your protruding spine, making you arch into him more.

"what else?"

"i want to kill myself, for you, tomu." you kissed his jaw. "maybe i'd kill you first, then myself."

"you wanna leave me that bad?" he gripped your hip, thumbing the bone and holding it in his hand. you shook your head, bringing his wrist to your lips, reddening them with his own blood. you rolled your hips against his, flicking your tongue against his cuts.

"i wanna bring you with me, to whatever hell we'll end up in."

"god you're edgy, huh. give me that."

he got on top of you now, pulling up your shirt and ordering you to hold it. you twitched as he started carving into the skin of your stomach and the space between your ribs. you could feel the familiar shape of a heart, right on your chest. he groped your tits, then smacked you across the face. then again. and again. and again, until you finally let out that sweet sob he wanted to hear.

"keep crying," he gripped your jaw, turning your head around forcefully. he lifted it up, placing the box cutter against your throat. "don't move, or else i'll end up killing you. or do, doesn't matter to me."

you whimpered pathetically as he did a quick slice on your throat, not deep enough to potentially put you in danger, but enough to bleed. if there wasn't any blood, it wasn't worth it. so you kept crying. he cut you all over, frail skin even more ruined now. just how he liked you.

"you know you're never gonna leave, right?" shigaraki sat on the edge of the bed, wrapping up his arms. you were panting next to him, bleeding into the sheets. your body felt numb and lifeless and like nothing else mattered except him. nothing did, actually.

"don't leave me, tomu!" you cried out when you felt the bed shift with him standing up. he laughed.

"i won't."

🏩 - how does your f/o act when they're sick?

Depending on how sick he is depends on how long he will last, but Lightning spends the first hour or few of him being sick being "I'm completely fineee! It's just a few minor symptoms.." and then regaurdless of if the symptoms actually progress or not he completely crumbles and caves in and needs to be doted on. This happens regaurdless of how sick he is, even if it's just a runny nose and a headache with some sneezing he will eventually reach a point of pouting and claiming that he can't leave his bed(super effective on me, I will absolutely dote on him without hesitation). Though once he's better he normally ends up trying to bashfully deny ever acting in such a manner, or that anyone that was "that sick" would also have been in that state!

Jackson hardly ever gets sick, so he will completely refuse to believe he is sick until the very last minute or it reaches the point that he can't deny it anymore. He absolutely can not stand being sick though, and he will immediately go and take medicine and go through a cycle of really hot showers, hot foods, swaddling himself with heating things and blankets, and trying to sleep his way through the entire thing so he can just drive any of the sickness out of him as quick as possible. If anything I'm there to keep him from going overboard and roasting himself alive(especially if he's already running a fever) and keeping him from driving himself mad. Being sick already sucks, don't need to be sick and upset on top of it!

🧶 - other than their main hobby/career, what other sorts of things do they like to do?

I think I mentioned this before in like the biggest tangent ever, I can't remember what prompted it, funnily enough I think it mightve been in responce to something you asked as well, haha!! But Lightning actually really loves dinosaurs and going to museums and just getting to infodump a bunch. He will hardly turn down a challenge to things and likes to push himself and can be a bit competitive(some times a little less playfully than others), but he has moments of totally just wanting to kick his feet up and relax, watch some documentaries or to just let himself doze off.

Jackson is often understimulated most of the time and has trouble finding things that don't leave him feeling bored or empty/unsatisfied, and it's partly why he sticks to games, or moreso one racing simulator game in part because it was one of the few things that he actually enjoyed as was good at. He keeps himself very reserved, and even something as simple as just finding out what he enjoys is something he keeps close to his chest, but truthfully I think he kinda enjoys and prefers to getting to kinda be more of a tag-along in things, or at least, he does with me. That way if he's bored he can engage as much as he'd like, and if it's too overwhelming for him he can seperate himself or just leave whenever he wants. There's a little bit more to it than that because he can at least be open about it with me(even if he doesn't have the nerve to be very direct about it, believe it or not) and it's not perfect in every situation, but it's easier for him to just be on the sidelines and commentate or be an observer. He definitely has a fondness for techno/digital stuff like video games and LED lights in rooms and RGB keyboards and lights in gaming computers, etc., and he enjoys rediculous(/positive) tehcno/electro dubstep sorts of music. I'd be impressed if you caught him listening to anything else. I don't think he ever really got the chance to explore himself or his interests or what he'd be interested in very much in the first place, so it's really nice to kinda get to explore that with him and find out :)

Shinji clicked on his gaming PC after a long day of work. After a second, the desktop whirred and came to life. Shinji’s setup had a purple and green boxy PC, two monitors, sound cancelling panels, the biggest, ugliest mic you’ve ever fucking seen, pink cat headphones, and an RGB keyboard with a mouse to match.

“Oh man, I’m getting behind on schedule,” Shinji muttered as he set up Twitch Studio and put up his stream starting music. People were bitching about him being late in the chat and Shinji was on the verge of tears as he opened Live3D and loaded up his avatar. He wiped his tears, turned on his camera, and started his stream.

“Welcome back to the stream! Today I have a special surprise for you!” Shinji’s vtuber avatar was a purple fox with a big tail and a brown tuft on his forehead that look like Shinji’s bangs. The model took months of saving up to commission, and the modeler he commissioned pulled out all the stops. I’m talking full body tracking, automatic tail movement, every emotion you could think of, and two different outfits- a white shirt with a blue tank top like what Shinji wears at school, and a chunky plug suit that had immaculate detailing.

As Shinji interacted with chat, he filled up with dread. What if his surprise isn’t as good as he thought? What if he gets cancelled for it?

After 10 minutes of chatter, Shinji revealed what (who) his surprise was! Shinji was going to play Minecraft with a super cool and popular streamer that evening, xX_Fallen_Angel_Xx.

The chat went insane when Shinji said this, with people wondering how a loser like Shinji could get a guest like xX_Fallen_Angel_Xx. Seeing this, Shinji started whimpering and considered stopping the stream.

Was he good enough for xX_Fallen_Angel_Xx? This guest was the one who took initiative and introduced himself to Shinji, and even proposed to be the guest, which begs the question, “Why would he choose me?” In Shinji’s head. If Shinji went on Angel’s stream, they would get a lot more viewers, but he chose Shinji to do the stream. Shinji would’ve never reached out as he can barely turn on his monitor without apologizing to it and asking if it hates him.

Valerie struggles to carry the whole stack of gifts, not because of the weight, but the height may make them tumble!

Jet got a book of vinyl Arcanine stickers. There's hundreds in the book. Makoto received a pair of aviator sunglasses. Valerie hands Morgan a big box that has a welding mask painted like a Ceruledge.

Michael gets a Lechonk bank that has pixelated sunglasses. It oinks when he moves it. Rin got a set of screws. "Charis helped pick those out, for helping your Pokemon with upkeep," is the only explanation she gives.

Gatz and Haku both get stationary sets based on Pokemon Val has seen them have, Haku's has more recipe cards included. Gil gets an RGB keyboard. For Tamako, Valerie got a board of fried fruits and berries, along with jerky.

"I know this isn't exciting as other presents, but," Valerie gives Sofia a locket. "But you decide what treasure goes in there."

They were all surprised to see Valerie stumble in with a tall stack of presents. And when they were given out, they all responded positively.

Jet was so excited to use one of his Arcanine stickers that he roughly slapped one on Michael's ass. Michael wasn't thrilled about that, but he let it go since Jet was their leader.

Makoto put on the sunglasses and looked at herself in the camera of her phone. She felt kinda cool with these, and she loves it.

Morgan was actually upset they weren't at base right now so she could use her new Ceruledge welding mask. It looks sick as shit!

Michael was a tad indifferent as he doesn't carry change, but those sunglasses sold him on it.

Rin was confused at first, but then he remembered Mr. Stomps and nodded in approval that this would have been something he forgets to do if no one told him he should.

Gatz and Haku actually tapped their gift together like it was a toast.

Gil was actually thinking of needing to add another station to his project. A keyboard is the perfect excuse to do so.

Tamako? Oh hell yeah she likes it. She's especially excited to try the Jerky.

And Sofia?

She is extremely moved. She loves it. But how will she ever decide on one picture to put in it?

Without a word, Sofia latches onto Valerie with a hug. Jet and Makoto join in hugging Valerie from the sides. Morgan joined the group hug from in front. And then Tamako...

Comes from behind to wrap her arms around everyone as best as she could and lifts them off the ground with her hug.

Everyone is laughing and enjoying the love shared towards Valerie, except for Sofia who is hanging onto Valerie's legs for dear life.

let's build ANOTHER KEYBOARD, the 1up level 60: weird keycaps edition

this is a budget custom level60 board from 1up keyboards in turquoise with tecsee purple panda tactile switches, akko screw in stabilizers in transparent pink (which i happened to have leftovers of from my wife build), and then some wonky keycaps cobbled together from the idobao gradient oem keycap set (a cheaper version of drop's artifact bloom rainbow set), cherry profile de/qwertz keys from kp republic's international set, and one random constellation key from my xda profile constellation set that's filling the # space.

this time, let's talk keycaps.

my husband is working his way to b1 fluency in german so he'll have an easier time getting permanent residency after we move (i also need to study, since i... dont speak much german despite being a citizen) and it's been driving him crazy to have to enter ¨ with alt on his standard keyboard, so he asked me to build him a qwertz layout keyboard. so, for black friday i kept my eye out on sales.

what he wanted:

a 65% or smaller keyboard (no need for f-row, arrows, etc, since he'll be using it specifically for typing in german and will have his laptop accessible)

underglow, not show-through per-key rgb

he wanted that rainbow keycap set from drop real bad

qwertz keycaps

lighter tactiles than his current work board, which has akko jelly purples on it

something that would be small and light enough to hook up on his lap on the couch

so, i went through all the bf/cm sales and found 1up, and then showed him and he said "yes that's exactly what i want"

the hardest part of the buying process was picking switches, since he wanted both something cheap and something a little lighter than the jelly purple actuation, and i didnt want to buy from elsewhere when i could get them included with the 1up build. i was going to do gateron milkies (since he doesnt care about per-key) but they were sold out, and i've heard a lot of good stuff about panda tactiles, so i took the jump on the tecsee.

if you're wondering: they're just as nice as people say. they're really nide. they aren't as thunky and im sure they sound even better lubed & filmed, but they're silky smooth and light enough i can use them without wanting to die.

this is the third stacked acrylic board i've built, and i have to say, stacked acrylic is both really affordable and really nice to work with. there's a lot less fidgeting with making sure things fit in solid housings, and i enjoy the peeling sticky off of each layer process because i have ocd.

some glossary:

underglow: there are LEDs on the bottom side of the pcb

per-key rgb: there's an LED for each key, called per-key or smd LED, it all means the same thing. this means every key lights up. there are some switches that aren't built to fit smd boards, so always double check that you have ones with a gap to fit.

keycap profiles: the different alignment and ways that keycaps are made, including height, shape, curve, and edge. there are about a billion. there will be a section more in-depth later.

here's all the acrylic peeled and stacked, with the top side of the pcb, on my messy dining table. so you can see here, it's really easy to take these apart and put them back together—great for upkeep.

one of the really cool parts about this pcb is that it's hotswap (i.e., no soldering required, just stick the switches in) but the hotswaps are soldered in such a way as you can adjust the layout slightly for your preference. i'm not sure if you could set it up as an iso (i didn't check) but you can see here how it looks on the bottom row, where the pink line is one switch orientation and the blue line is the other

since this isn't a per-key rgb, that means there's no need to make sure there's space for a top-facing smd led, so the switches can be placed in either direction. which is super cool!

when installing switches on a hot swap board, you have to be really careful of pin alignment. the spaces that the pins go into in the hot swap can be jarred loose, and the pins, if bent, won't make connection, preventing the switch from working. here's an example of what bent pins look like

the top switch in both these photos has straight pins, the bottom in both photos has one bent pin. the good news is, bent pins are really easy to fix: you can usually bend them back with your fingers, if it's just a slight misalignment, or you can use tweezers.

to prevent bending, when you insert a switch, always press in the pin-side first. so if you look at the holes on the pcb above, a "north" facing pin insert (the pink line) you'd push in the top side of the switch first. a "south" (the blue line) you'd push in the bottom first. you can then flip the pcb over to check and make sure everything went in.

here's a close-up of hot swap sockets on the bottom of the pcb. the pink circles show where the pins are in the housings. success! all of these are inserted correctly.

once this board was built, it came time for the keycaps. as i said up top, this is a bit of a cobbled-together keycap set, in that there's a few different-height sets combined. so let's talk about.... keycaps.

there are about a billion different guides to keycap profiles. rather than rehash them here, i'm going to talk about the simple stuff, because i was so confused trying to figure this out.

there are, put simply, two different "styles" of keycaps, broken up into dozens of different profiles. there are "uniform" keycaps, where all the keys are the same height, and "sculpted", where the keys are staggered to shape the profile of the board to be taller at the top, lower in the middle, and rise again at the bottom. the most popular uniform keycap profiles are xda and dsa. the most popular sculpted keycap profiles are cherry and oem. you can find a whole bunch of other types and options, too. some companies (like tai hao and akko) tend to only produce certain profiles (tai hao and osa respectively)

here's a side by side of xda, oem, and cherry keycaps all in the same row. they're all slightly different heights, shapes, and sculpts.

in sculpted keycap profiles, each row is of a slightly different height. for qwety layouts that would be r1 (number row), r2 (qwerty row), r3 (home row), r4 (zxcv row), r5 (space/ctrl row). function row usually is either r1 or r5.

since this keyboard is a little cobbled together, keycaps wise, you can see here the different height of some of the keys. if you're looking into non-qwerty layouts, i'd suggest a uniform profile. you can get international inserts like the ones i got for my husband here, or buy the international sets for nor/de/fr, but you can also just buy dsa or xda and swap keys around as needed.

now, be aware when mixing and matching sets, unless you can guarantee that your keycap sets come from the same manufacturer (i.e., cannon keys, idobao, drop, etc... so if you aren't buying knockoffs or recolors) the printing may be slightly different. here are two different xda profile keycap sets, side by side.

you can see the constellation set is wider and a little flatter, while the night sakura set is taller and a little skinnier. they're both still xda, but the print is very slightly different. (in all fairness, the night sakura may actually be kam knockoffs, im not sure. they were advertised as xda, but they don't quite match the profile).

one of the other things keycaps will be marked as is PBT vs ABS—this is the variety of plastic they're made from. pbt is more sturdy. thats really all you need to know.

finally, there are what are called "doubleshot" and "show-through" keycaps. doubleshot means that the keycap is made from two different types of plastic, machined together, and it makes them a little more sturdy. most show-through keycaps are also doubleshot, but the lower plastic isn't the full body of the key, but a transparent layer to allow the light from the per-key rgb to show through.

finally, you can get what are called "artisan" keycaps. these are single keycaps, usually custom or small-run, and they can be made of ceramic, plastic, resin, glass, metal...etc. some are standard shapes, some arent.

from left to right, this is an oem r1, cherry r1, artisan from hirosart, and osa r1. as you can see, these are all very different heights and shapes. artisans are super cool (expensive) but also very fun. you should get one if you have a mechanical keyboard. they spark So much joy.

my keyboard is complete! words cannot express how much i love this keyboard. i spent so much time thinking about what kind of pcb (body) i wanted, what switches i wanted, and what keycaps i wanted. i even asked for your help! i knew i wanted the body of my keyboard to be aluminum... and it is heavy... and i keep forgetting just HOW heavy it is. i now understand why changbin was lifting felix's keyboard now lol.

anyway, below i will have some pictures and some explanations about the keyboard and how i built it. it's okay if you don't care about any of the details and just look at the pictures lol

onto the build! i'll link everything i used in case you're interested!

for my pcb i have the Keychron Q1 Pro, in black. you can also get this pcb in white or silver. i spent a lot of time looking for a keyboard that would be mac friendly. the GMMK Pro that i was originally looking at, some of the reviews said that the mac settings didn't work that well, even with the proper software. so i went with Keychron, bc i know their keyboards are formatted to play nice with macs. i should also mention that my keyboard is hot-swappable. which means that the switches are not soldered into my pcb. if you want to get a mechanical keyboard and make changes to it, make sure it says, "hot-swappable." also my keyboard has a knob! bc why not, knobs are fun and my knob controls the volume! there is a program that you can use with Keychron to program the knob to do whatever you want it to do. but i like that it controls the volume, there's a satisfying "click" for each turn.

the keycaps are also Keychron. it took me a while to even get to the keycaps. there are too many options for keycaps out there, so be careful! you could end up with too many options like i did 😅 so, i know that in my poll, the dark keys with cmyk text won, but they are out of stock and i wasn't able to find them in the Keychron amazon storefront. i was going to go with the winner between the Akko keycaps... but they tied. so i asked GBF to pick and he chose the cyan and black. but when i was looking at the Keychron amazon storefront, i found an option that was slightly cheaper than the Akkos. but i also chose the Keychron ones bc like i said, Keychron plays nice with macs and had the "command" and "option" keys i would need.

next, switches! in a mechanical keyboard, switches are what make the keys work. in a regular keyboard (or a membrane keyboard), there's a membrane (sometimes it's silicone) that sits between the keys and the board and sends a signal when you press a key. same thing in a mechanical keyboard, except each switch operates on its own. so if a key stops working, you can simply pull the switch out and replace it with a new one! anyway, my switches happen to be mint. did i buy them bc they were mint? no. am i kind of happy that they're mint? yes. i bought them bc they're quite tactile switches. tactile means there's a little bump when the key is fully pressed to let you know that you've hit the key. i've had trouble with linear switches being too sensitive in the past. i ended up getting Durock shrimps! what a cute name lol and i might buy more to put them into my work keyboard...

onto placing keycaps! originally i was going to put o-rings on my keycaps to prevent any more noise, but my switches are already so quiet that it wasn't really necessary. but i also did a typing test and the o-rings actually added too much bulk and didn't allow the switch to fully descend when the key was pressed. so i took them out.

but here is my keyboard fully assembled! the rgb is so pretty too. even though i can't see it through my keycaps, it's still lovely. and the beauty of my keyboard is that i can change the keycaps whenever i want. so if i ever get bored of this lovely, black, mint, and gray combo or those dark keycaps with cmyk text come back in stock, i can always change them!

okay, i know that was a lot and again, it's totally okay if you didn't read any of it and just looked at the pictures 😂 also, my monitor stand came as well, i mentioned that earlier. but it looks so good! my desk looks so organized now! and the only thing missing from my setup is my imac now!

Ideas for the three parts

For this project I want to branch out from my typical practice of just making a video.

All installed in a space, the cyber sex dungeon goon cave. Screens everywhere, cum on the floor . idk. 

For the first part, Im working on getting real porn magazines and collaging and drawing over them to create a small zine of machine porn. Like mentioned in the previous post, i might experiment with straight up computer and mechanical forms rather than a sexy robot humanoid figure.

For the second part, the porn video. A while ago i had this idea for a video piece. Bad dialogue and acting like the begining of porn. Card board set and shitty props and lighting of a super computer. Sort of echoing the story of AI in a box, a janitor or scientist or coder or someone alone in there. it's late at night, the computer starts talking to him, seducing him. they have sexxxxxxxx.... yeahhh

The main part will be constructing the set, which as long as i start doing I think it is achievable. Talked to harry about using the production studio to film and he said to come in on a weekend so I can leave it up. Also a solution for the screens is to make green plates so I can comp the text / graphics in later.

I also had an alternative idea for this part. Instead of this being a video work, for the work to BE the set I install. Get viewers to come up to the super computer and speak into a microphone, and I can type live responses back. I like the interactivity, but i think maybe it takes performance gimmick over the integrity of my original idea. Plus it will end up basically like character ai chat and i don't want to talk about that. Additionally, I think the materiality of the card board prop trash aesthetic lends itself to a trashy shitty porn video more, rather than some greater commentary on our interactions with machines.

The third part is the sculpture love machine. I started with thinking about the construction, being a welded structure, basically a shelf to hold the crt monitor and attach other arms onto. I didn't really like how this design looks, but I like the core construction of it basically being a shelf.

More sketches of the first idea. But i started to then think about a "love machine" as basically a pc set up. Or a robot as a pc set up. Rather than it being a machine made to mechanically fuck the best, with the most dildo attachments etc, its a manifestation of a gooners pc set up. A grimy yucky msi monitor with a mechanical rgb keyboard full of dust and crumbs and a oily razor mouse. It's just a gross pc, but its saying something to you.

The factor of it being a crt with dialogue on it is really important to me. I think thats the symbol / key image of how i communicate sentience within a machine, like in my previous work, WHO NEEDS MARY. I also want to continue my interest in dialogue, talking to the inanimate, as well as the art of language and text.

The main construction of this design will still remain basically a shelf. A table with long legs. I could still use welding to create the base structure, or I could fine any table that would work. I want to cover it in expanding foam to create a lupy gross and organic texture / form, and also itll be a cool base to adhere / embed stuff into. The crt / monitor will be housed within, ill probably put a cardboard box in there when im doing the foam and cutting an opening in the back to replace it with a monitor. I am going to embed / attach a mouse, keyboard, dildos, key switches, hdmi cables, condoms just bunch a random shit.

I’m back!

Hi guys! How’s it going? I owe you a bit of an explanation. I’ve been AWOL for a couple of weeks for a few reasons, some I will explain and some I can’t explain.

As you all know, I’ve been in a funk for a while now. I’ve been dealing with it somewhat successfully. Trying to figure out what it is and how to overcome it. I think I have it figured out, it’s not something I can talk about sadly but, I can talk about how I am dealing with it. Once I figured out what was going on, everything sort of fell like dominoes. The solution at the time was really difficult and not something that can happen quickly. So because I wasn’t really making any progress with my solution I started to feel bad about everything and mean literally everything.

Some of you may know, some of you may not, I usually get up at 5am to go to the gym just for a bit of exercise and to get out of the house (I’m told it’s a good thing to touch grass but I’m not 100% convinced XD). When I couldn’t find a solution to the funk I started feeling really about everything I was doing. What is the point in going to the gym? I’m tired all the time, I have to go to bed at 2030, I never seem to loose any weight. I hate the way I look in the mirror. Am I a good wife to Rawthorm? Is he happy? And it all goes downhill from there. I just didn’t feel like streaming and I was wallowing. I am coming out the other side though. Surprisingly Horizon Forbidden West did help a little. Horizon Zero Dawn is one of my all time favourite games and I had so much fun sharing that playthrough with you that I couldn’t wait to play Horizon Forbidden West and playing it 2 days in a row did just enough to start me off in the right direction. I’ll get there, It’s hard to explain when I can only tell you half a story.

Maybe one day I will be able to tell all but for now, just know, that I am getting better and I don’t think there are going to be any more missing streams without me at least telling you guys beforehand. Speaking of streams, I’ve got some good updates coming.

We had a Thursday stream last week with the release of Horizon Forbidden West and so far it has not disappointed. I’m still getting to grips with a few of the new mechanics but it’s going well. As you can see from my Sunday selfie I was so excited for the game I put on battle paint just for the occasion. As much as I would love to it’s not going to happen for every stream but I felt the occasion warranted a little something extra.

Todays stream of Rainbow Six Siege was awesome. Thanks to everyone who dropped by and played some games with me. It was fantastic. I was carried in every single game and I did not deserve any of the wins I got.

My Horizon Zero Dawn playthrough is still going up on YouTube every Wednesday and I have started streaming on YouTube as well! So every Friday I will be live on YouTube playing Horizon Forbidden West so I wont have to edit any the videos for them to go up there! Win Win :D

The Talos Principle 2

Normally I would write a little story based on the game the review is about. However, this time I have a story that the first Talos Principle tangentially relates to. The first Talos Principle poses a question regarding souls and if machines can attain them. It also asks another question which is; Is a soul something you imprint upon through your life like a lump of clay or do you become moulded into the shape of your soul as you grow. I found this question interesting and posed it to my best friend (who I knew would love a debate on something like that) and she and I discussed it, or rather, we argued about it. During that argument we asked her partner what he thought. His response disappointed us both as he had no opinion at all about it, not even as a thought experiment. They broke up shortly after. So anyway, that's how the Talos Principle broke my friend's relationship…

This game is set in a world where all of humanity has long since gone extinct… Well, all organic humans are anyway. You may be wondering why would I state specifically ‘organic humans’? That’s because there are sentient robots that call themselves humanity and consider us (the organic ones) to be their ancestors. In this game, as it was with the last game, you play as one of those robots. In the first game you were the first of your kind to be born into the real world and in this one you are the last, specifically the one thousandth. You being the last one is apparently a big deal and so you walk out to a large celebration. A celebration that is short lived as it gets interrupted by Prometheus himself, or at least a representation of him. He just manages to command your race to investigate a distant island before being dragged off by Pandora. It seems something big is occurring and so you and a small team jet off to this mystery island.

As is to be expected a new game comes with new puzzles and mechanics, such as the RGB splitter that requires two coloured beams of light to create a third, such as red and blue to make green. There are also a lot of puzzles, within each of the nine biomes there are eight ‘main’ puzzles, two ‘lost’ puzzles, two statue puzzles and a golden gate puzzle that can only be accessed in the late game. There are actually more than that but telling more would be something of a spoiler.

The puzzles are scattered across each biome and are numbered from one to eight (except the two lost puzzles, the statues and the golden gate) and each biome introduces a new mechanic for you to utilise. While you don’t have to go through them in numerical order, I do strongly suggest that you at least start with puzzle number one before trying the others if only to get an understanding of the new mechanic being shown to you.

Hidden around the biomes are two ‘Sparks of Prometheus’, you can use these sparks to skip a puzzle. Though it takes three sparks to skip a single puzzle and there are only eighteen sparks to be found in the entire game, so if you do decide to use them be sparing with them.

As I mentioned in the story at the beginning of this review, the previous game posed a philosophical question ‘Can a machine have a soul? And if so is the soul developed over time or granted in full at creation?’ It seems the first half of that question was answered, so now this game poses many more questions such as if knowledge should be sought out for its own sake, the nature of self determinism and the direction that the new human society should take.

In the last game there was a journal that was accessed with the [Tab] key, in this game the journal has been replaced with something of a status screen. While in this screen you can read information on the things your companions have found, check the clues that the sphinx statues give, relisten to the voice logs you find (which will continue to play out of the status screen) and you can interact with the games social media. That’s right the new humans in this game have created some kind of twitter analog, thankfully this version is actually moderated and the discussions generally don’t get insulting or abrasive. You can, of course, ignore it however I would encourage you not to as the short conversations you have on there have an impact on certain events that happen in the story.

While in the first game you were all alone, struggling your way through the various puzzles. In this game you actually have companions that wander around the various biomes, they won’t help you with the puzzles at all, that’s your job, but they will want to speak to you about the various things you discover as you play. I really like the inclusion of these characters as they add moments of levity and sometimes an alternative perspective on the various subjects this game likes to throw at you. Plus some of the characters I genuinely grew to like and would seek them out for a conversation whenever something important happened just to hear what they had to say.

I have to say that Croteam certainly do create a beautiful looking game, the various vistas are absolutely stunning to look at. Bear in mind that the screenshots are from my rig which is running just a little over the minimum specifications. I will admit it does make me a little sad to see that Croteam are no longer using their own engine, they really have shown that they know what they're doing with the Unreal 5 engine.

On Steam Deck this game runs flawlessly. However, some of the puzzles (especially the ones that require you to do things outside of the various puzzle enclosures) can be very difficult to see simply due to the screen size.

If you like puzzles then this is a game I can highly recommend. I had an absolute blast playing through this, to the point that I found every secret, completed every puzzle and found the alternative ending. There aren't many games that get me to do that.
