"One Tall Coffee With Cream And Sugar."
lvjy!wilbur x manager!reader 2467 words • 8.16.23 cw ~ coffee, lovejoy, large crowds, almost falling off stage, kith mwah mwah wilbur soot masterlist!
pt. 1 ~ "Four medium-sized coffees, one big fat work crush."
After this concert, it'll be all over. So here you go, Wilbur, your last morning coffee of the tour! From me, your manager <3
♡♡♡
“Order for (y/n)!”
I smiled at the barista, placing some coins in the tip jar before taking the cardboard tray of coffee in both hands. I looked down to make sure each order was perfect: one iced coffee with mocha drizzle, one small double-shot espresso, one cappuccino, and one tall coffee with cream and sugar. After ticking down my mental checklist of Lovejoy’s coffee orders, I pushed open the glass door, feeling the breeze of the LA air on my face.
Today was Lovejoy’s last tour in America.
It’s been more than two months since I’ve been with Lovejoy and their first tour around the States along with my first time serving as a on-the-road tour manager. With all good things, they must come to an end, and I’m grateful for every moment I’ve spent with the crew and the band, but what pained me the most was a certain member having to travel across seas back home.
Every moment with Wilbur felt like I was on cloud 9. Even through difficult venue scheduling and working with different states, he was always behind me to back me up. Sometimes I would notice that before going on stage, Wilbur would be hiding in the lounge room, fumbling with his fingers while pacing back and forth. “Pre-concert nerves?” I would ask. He would look at me with a worried look painted in his eyes. He would shake his head, biting on his fingernails. I would walk up to him and hug him tight, listening to his pacing heartbeat gradually slow down.
“You got this, Will. I believe in you. Everyone is going to love you, and even if you do play the wrong chord or sing a little offkey, who cares? Just keep playing because that was what you were born to do.” I would say, rubbing his back. Five minutes later you wouldn’t even think twice about that man being nervous on the stage because he was hopping around and screaming into the microphone, occasionally shooting a look at me that said “Thank you.” I smiled, reminiscing on the memories.
“Need a hand, sweetheart?” I looked up, only to be met with the chocolate eyes of Wilbur fucking Gold. There he was, opening the door for me with his guitar strapped to his back. It felt familiar. Like the first time we met. Especially with me clutching the cardboard cup that hosted all the coffee orders for the band. I smirked at him, brushing right past. The only difference was that I was at least confident enough to even talk to him.
“I’m good, Will, but thank you.” I chimed. He chuckled before catching up to me with his hands in his pockets.
“How you feeling?” He asked. I hummed a bit as we talked together through the venue.
“I guess kind of nervous? Since we set up a lot of things for the finale of the America tour. Like all the effects and all. You know what I mean?” I said. He nodded, pushing open the backstage door so I can walk through on my own. As I walked past though, he grabbed the tall coffee from its holder before taking a sip. I looked at him, giving him a lecturing face.
“What! It’s my drink!” He exclaimed, holding his hands up in defense.
“And what if it was someone else's?” I said with a joking attitude. He shrugged, walking away so that the door may close behind him. He takes another sip, savoring the taste.
“I’m really gonna miss this coffee.” He sighed.
“It’s nothing too unique, really! Isn’t this what you would order back at home?” I said, rolling my eyes. I placed the coffee on a nearby table before turning around and leaning back. My palms supported my weight as I looked at him.
“I mean yeah but—” He was placing his guitar case down, unzipping it to retrieve his guitar. “I guess it wouldn’t come from you anymore.” He said, a bit sorrowfully. Before I could respond, Mark, Ash, and Joe walk through the door, all with their respective instruments and bags in hand.
“Hey guys, is venue all ready?” Joe asked, waving at the both of us before putting down his instrument. I walked up to him with his respective coffee in hand.
“Yup. Just waiting on you guys for soundcheck, and here’s your coffee!” I said, handing it to him. Joe smiled, taking the coffee and giving it a sip.
“Thanks, (y/n), we’re gonna miss you and the crew as our team.” He praised, giving a mini-cheer with his coffee. I smiled, noticing that Mark and Ash had already gone and grabbed their own coffees. Will was standing in the corner, staring at me. I tilted my head at him. With a cheeky smile, he tilted his head as well. I chuckled a little before turning to look at the other guys.
“Okay, so you guys just need to do some sound checking which should take roughly an hour? Then an hour after that we’ll have our final gig! The team is already onset, so just hook your instruments with everything and we should be good to go.” I explained. Ash nodded, taking a sip of his coffee while holding his bass, while the rest made some voices of approval.
We all headed out on stage, and I told them where each person would be standing. Wilbur would be in the front with the mic, Joe would be somewhat to the right of him a little bit back with Ash basically the same just on the left. Then Mark would be just behind Ash with his drumset.
Everyone plugged in their instruments and began strumming random patterns just to make sure that the audio was coming coherently. The soundcheck person adjusted accordingly. I hopped off the stage and stood in the middle of the venue, making sure that the positions were as perfect as I envisioned. After a long stare, I realized that Will was a little bit off-place. “Will!” I tried to exclaim over the noise. Wilbur looked at me, and playfully, he began to strum more violently. “Wilbur!” I tried to shout again, but he simply smiled at me.
Slightly annoyed, I hopped back on the stage, now standing directly in front of him. He looked down at me with a smirk right on his face. I grabbed him by the arms before moving him into position. He leaned down, still strumming on his guitar. I chuckled.
“What’s with that look?” I asked. He hummed a bit before responding.
“Nothing, you just look cute.” He said. Suddenly he brought his face close and planted a small kiss on my nose. Flustered, I stumbled back and nearly off the stage before Will caught me by the waist. My hands were clutching tight on his collar.
“S-Sorry!” I stuttered. I was near the edge, but with Will’s support, I was nearly floating off with one leg up. In one quick swift, Wilbur pulled me up and walked backward, landing me on a safe platform for me to stand on.
“Are you okay?” He asked. He held my arms so that I maintained my balance. After I felt steady enough, I looked up at him. I felt my breath getting caught in my throat. His face was so close to mine that I just wanted to kiss him, but I didn’t have the confidence he had.
“Y-Yeah..” I mumbled, still getting lost in those eyes. “Yeah, I’m fine..” I managed to stutter out. I stood up properly and brushed myself off. Wilbur backed away to give me some space. I wish that with my sleeves I could wipe off the embarrassing flush of red that was painted all over my face. “I’m gonna take five. Just— Stay in position for me!” I ran off the stage and to the back where I grabbed a bottle of cold water to cool down.
Oh boy. This was going to be hard.
After some time, security showed up and fans started loading into the venue. The place was somewhat massive, making it one of our biggest shows (not counting festivals) yet. I peeked from the stage curtain, seeing the rows of chairs being filled with all kinds of people. I turned back around to see the band. Mark was having a beer or two, Joe was practicing a little bit of his guitar solo, and Ash was scrolling through Instagram. “Hey guys, do you know where Wilbur is?” I asked. Mark looked up.
“Oh yeah, I think he’s in the outer lounge area? He might be just tuning his guitar though.” He said, pointing at the door with his beer.
I nodded and thanked him before pushing through the door. The room was much quieter than the previous lounge. Wilbur was sat on one of the couches with his guitar in his lap, but he wasn’t strumming or turning the knobs. It more looked as if he was deep into thought. I approached him carefully, yet he didn’t notice me until after I spoke up.
“Hey, Will?” I snapped him out of his thoughts. His hands fell into gripping his guitar defensively before frantically looking at me.
“Ah, hey (y/n), sorry I was just thinking.” He said, sighing. I raised an eyebrow before sitting next to him, crossing my legs.
“Well, thinking about what?” I asked. “Just— out of curiosity. You don’t have to tell me.”
Wilbur hummed before sitting back on the couch, moving his guitar closely to his chest. “I guess just… What’s going to happen after the tour, y’know when I get home and all? I’m going to miss all this adventuring and going to different states.” His head then turned to me. He has a soft, sort of vulnerable look on his face. Like a glass of water that was full to the very top, and just one droplet could make that brimming all come cascading down like a waterfall. “I..—”
Before he could finish his sentence, both of our ear monitors went off. “Two minutes until stage time. Please prepare your places.”
I looked over to Wilbur, who seemed a bit frustrated he wasn’t able to finish his sentence, but I had to brush it off for now. I got up and helped him up as well as we both rushed backstage, back to the screaming fans, wires, and bass-boosted speakers. Wilbur found his position next to Ash as I stood in front of them.
“Alright, guys, this is our biggest show in the States yet. I want you guys to have the whole venue jumping by the time we’re done!” I exclaimed all of them cheered with words of encouragement. “And, I’d seriously like to say this has been one of the best moments of my life. I am super proud to be your guys’ tour manager. So, please! Next time you guys are in the States, message me!”
Mark rushed to hug me with a big smile on his face. “We loved touring with you too, (y/n)! Thank you seriously for all the coffee and encouragement you’ve given us!” He beamed. Maybe it was the beer loosening up his speech, but he certainly spoke with pride and excitement. Ash came in too, wrapping his arms around us, and soon joined Joe and Wilbur. It was a tender moment for us all. A core memory that is the end of the tour for Lovejoy.
It took all of our ear monitors going off to break off the little moment. Soon enough, the boys were at the edge of the curtains, waiting for their countdown to end so they can finally step on stage. Once they did, the whole venue roared in excitement. Wilbur did his usual theatrics: talking to the crowd, and introducing the band, before counting down and playing the songs we had planned. I ran around backstage for most of the time, making sure that the lighting crew knew what was doing, and talking to soundcheck to make sure everything was going, but in those rare instances when I had a break, I would look over to Wilbur from offstage.
There he was, glowing in yellow backlights as his eyes fluttered close, plucking at his guitar and singing lyrics he would spend all day and all night revising and humming. I know moments like these are captured by our hired photographers, but my eyes saw something so much more personal. If eyes could take a screenshot, I did exactly that and stored it in the safest part of my brain’s gallery.
It felt like the concert went by too fast because, in a blink of an eye, Wilbur was finishing up his last performance of The Fall. Smoke and lights illuminated him and his band’s presence on stage and before I knew it, it was all over. The crowd cheered for Wilbur's dramatic finale as he raised his guitar high in the air. Sweat dripped off his body, soaking little bits of his clothing. The song finally came to an end as the lights cut off. Nothing but the most bittersweet smile rested on my face.
The tour
Was finally over.
Or was it?
The lights faded back on with Wilbur gripping the microphone. He had given his guitar to someone backstage before they had walked off. “Crowd,” he started. “This marks the end of our United States tour, and you have brought nothing but thrill and pure adventure.” He then turned toward me. “But there’s someone who frankly was, the cherry on top of it all. You may have seen her a little bit on our social media, maybe Ash posted her on his story once or twice. Everyone please, give it up for (y/n)!”
I stood there in shock as I heard the audience chant my name. Wilbur gestured toward me, the mic still in hand. I shook my head, snapping out of my anxiousness before stepping onto the stage. Despite being the background for it all, I’ve never been in front of a crowd. This was all so… Exhilarating.
Wilbur took me by the hand, twirling me in place before placing an arm around my waist and dipping me down. “There were so many times I’ve wanted to kiss you, to tell you how much I’ll miss you, and how we won’t be by each other’s side anymore. I just… I wanted to take this moment now.” He romanced in my ear. With a wide smile on my face, I jumped up, wrapping my arms around his neck before pulling him into a kiss.
Finally, those lips that I memorized on that tour bus—
Lips that I only dreamed of kissing.
They were finally on mine.
And faintly, I could taste his morning coffee.
♡♡♡

Pictures of Wilbur living my dream because I can't
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just fucking look at him, literally in the lime light. Because he deserves it, because he's worked for it and its paying off like it should. But I can't look at it without this burn that fills me with jealousy for him and rage for myself. I don't know what it is about him, how are we so similar in a way I can't describe. There's something about the way we look at the world, I swear we share the same set of lenses and such similar limitations, yet there he is... and here I am.
I know I'm young, I know he's had it rough, I know, I know. But it's not due to the lack of consideration that I feel this way, its just that I know that I don't deserve that. No matter how much I wish I should. I think about every time I tried to write a song and record it but failed oh so horribly because it just sounded like shit. Pure fucking racket. I think about every damn talent show where I got so many pats on the back but when it came down to the leaderboard I was no where to be seen. I think of every "You just need a little work" and every second chair in middle school band class. How many of those will there be? But worse, how many worse things are there that I have yet to be told?
How many times will I be told by other musicians that I don't make good or real music? How many times will I pour my heart out to my best friends and be told about how I'm not gonna make it? That I'm too ambitious and that I should quit? How many hate comments will I get on a small youtube post with only two likes. How many times will I throw my mic in the back of my closet and tell myself I'll never pick it up again, only to pull it out after a rough night? How many before I'm up there to?
I swear that for every listen one of Lovejoy's songs get, I feel a worm in my gut just chewing away. All the little burrows between my intestines and heart. These worms push on my lungs everyday. The worms wrap around my arteries and my legs go weak, I stagger along every cracked and grass infested sidewalk in the delta. How many worms until I make it? How many more until I strum them all out of me, one by one in harmony with a sea of people who love my passion as much as I do? Or how many more until there's nothing left of me? How long will it take for the worms to eat my eyes out and take away those lenses we share.
I know I need to work more and harder. I need to push harder and harder until I make it, because that is how you make it. You just keep going forward with hope. I have hope but I need to find out what it is that itches everybody. What is everybody's worms. What is eating holes into each of our palms? How long will I take to realize that there will be no miracle? There will be no random natural talent on an instrument I've never seen before. I won't find a way to sing thus far, unknown to the world. I will never play a chord in just the right way, and I know that. So what is it that drives me forward. What about my passion has been dragging me at the end of its hitch. Why can't I get off? There is something that give me hope. No matter what instrument, song, genre, musician, no matter how I've changed I've always wanted to be a musician. WHY
Dear worms, let me achieve my dream or let me be free. PLEASE, let me leave this, draw a line between pleasure and pain. Separate my dreams from reality or make them collide. My heart needs rest, my lungs need to expand, I need to untie my brain, out of the loops and knots.

Oh yeah, I think the only person Wilbur might lose to in the streams shittiest sleep schedule competition is Tubbo, and that’s probably only because Wilbur needs to be awake on time for band stuff every once in a while (see filming the NPT music video at 9 am).
But I have watched the vod now (basically all I do is watch vod, the only people I every catch live is the QSMP morning crew and that’s only like the first 2-3 hours of stream). I was not ready for the sims 4 convo, or Karl Jacobs with the steal chair.
Also, Wilbur’s singing has gotten so much better. Like I remember when he would sing on stream and it would be fun, but filled to the brim with voice cracks. There wasn’t a single one all stream. All his notes were smooth. He used his head voice and everything. You can tell he’s been working with a voice coach. The progress is amazing.
Also, also. New song! We only just got this one! And the guitar is so cool! And I love when he does how to play breakdown, it makes it so much easier to learn the songs. I’m gonna need to try and play NTP now.
-🌲
god yeah tubbo's sleep schedule is near nonexistent. I still have fond memories of all the times I used to see he was live on the alt or something before I went to bed, and when I'd wake up in the morning he'd still be live. good times.
ironically despite us being in completely different time zones, I also mostly catch the morning crew bc morning is when I have the most free time lol so 🤝
the sims 4 convo was so funny because I also used to cycle wildly being between obsessed with the sims 4. I saw on twitter that we got a few more people being like "I didn't know wilbur from lovejoy was a twitch streamer" bc of the stream yesterday or they knew but they only knew him from lovejoy and didn't catch a stream until then, and their introduction to the lead singer of lovejoy's twitch was him talking about not leaving his house for a week bc he was playing the sims 4 for 16 hours a day. what an impression.
shoutout to karl jacobs coming out of left field that was fun
his singing has improved so much it's so lovely to see!!! I definitely remember the voice crack days and I kept waiting for his voice to crack when he sang yesterday and it just didn't happen.
ooooo best of luck learning to play npt!! seems like such a fun song to play and sing along too

Okay so I've already requested alit but the best idea just popped into my mind!!
So, reader works at a little coffee shop that wilbur decides to visit one day. He over hears lovejoy playing over the speakers and sees reader humming along to the tune of the song. He goes up to the counter and like plays it cool like "you like the song?" And reader is totally oblivious and doesn't know Hes the lead singer and is all like "yeah their my favorite band!" And it's just a whole thing!

Song I used: it’s all futile, it’s all pointless
Reader: Gn!reader
F/l/s= favorite Lovejoy song
Tumblr media
Little y/n description 🤭:
You’ve been working at this cafe for a long time. Slowly but surely you’ve been getting promoted making you soon have enough ability to make the cafe playlist. Of course you added some songs that would be good for customers but also put in some of your personal favorites. Mainly, Lovejoy. You loved the band and couldn’t get enough of it so a few songs wouldn’t hurt. It definitely didn’t after this experience.
You were working your normal shift with your now close co workers. You controlled the front as everyone controlled the back. You decided to put your playlist since it was slow and because you made the playlist for the cafe so why not. During that a man walked in as you were putting on your playlist so a co worker took his order for you.
Your playlist began to play on the speakers as you walked back to the front seeing the guy now sit down as your friend walked to the back to tell everyone his order. “Can you sweep?” A worker asked, “sure!” You went in the back to grab the broom. Soon enough the first song stopped and started playing your favorite, ‘it’s all futile, it’s all pointless’ by Lovejoy. Yo began to quietly mumble and sing along trying not to disturb the little customers in the cafe.
The guy looked up without you noticing and watched you sweep humming the song as you finally finished and put the broom back in the back. He smiled as he watched you come back and still humming. You grabbed a wipe and began to wipe the counters as you waited for the next customer. The man got up and came up to you and looked at you, “you like this song?”
He sounded cheeky but you responded, “yeah it’s from my favorite band, I couldn’t go to there concert sadly but at least I can still listen to there music” he nodded at you as you threw away the wipe and finally looked up at him. “Is this your favorite song?” He asked making you think, “not really, I really enjoy f/l/s but this is still in the top ten for sure for me” he smiled and nodded once again, “how would you feel if you met the real lead singer?”, “oh I would freak out he makes such amazing songs and has such an amazing voice”, “interesting”
Then he handed you a tip only for you along with a paper, “keep it all” he smiled as he walked out. You opened the paper first as you placed the money to the side and read the note:
‘Happy you met me now? Maybe I’ll come back if you remember me and we can get a picture king’
You felt confused for a second but then everything clicked. ‘I MET WILBUR SOOT’ your mind was screaming at you that you couldn’t even get a picture but happy the note said he might come back. You smiled as you put the note in your pocket. All day nothing could ruin that smile you had on your face and no one dared to ruin it either.

🩰 : i ship you with james potter
╰┈➤ geminis and aries get along very well. you both can share endless thoughts with a never ending excitement.
╰┈➤ james is the extroverted one so of course he'll make the first move. at first you were shy and timid when he approached but it quickly went away after getting to know him more. you knew his character because he literally is an open book but there's also a few pages that he doesn't show.
╰┈➤ when you're overwhelmed, james always knows the right thing to do. growing up surrounded by loving friends, he knew how to comfort someone !
╰┈➤james loves it when you talk about your interests. it doesn't necessarily have to be something entertaining, he just loves hearing you ramble even if he doesn't understand you.
╰┈➤ you mentioned that you love hugs and what is james if his personality is not giving good hugs? random hugs will he do. on the hallway after a class, while you both are sitting comfortably on the armchair. also he'd walk you to class (even if you both didn't share the same one) and would link your arms together on the way.
╰┈➤ he is definitely shocked when you bit him, frozen, eyes big with confusion. though he laughs after and questions you about it. after some times he will get used to your habit and come to expect little bites.
╰┈➤ fights are not something that occur regularly. it rarely did. he knew you struggle to interpret your emotions- contrast to how easy you were in analysing situations, so he'll just be there and rubbing your back while you think deeply inside your head.
╰┈➤ helping james in writing his essay. he puts minimal effort when it comes to essays so you offer to help him finish it in which he was so thankful for.
╰┈➤ baking him your own delicacies often. not only does the activity calms you down but james also enjoys your food !!

You had finally been able to go to a Lovejoy gig. You were beyond excited to be able to show your love and support in person to your friends. Jack picked you up along with Tommy and Tubbo, Phil and Kristin took their car so they wouldn't have to deal with Tommy and Tubbo asking if you were there yet every five seconds.
When you arrived the boys practically rolled out of the car and ran in to find Phil and Kristin. They had claimed a good spot within the venue so you and Jack went to get drinks while they waited. By the time you guys returned they were just about to perform.
They were incredible. The crowd screamed the songs back at them as they played, and your heart warms at the loving community they have created. As the last song ends the crowd cheers thinking it's over when Wilbur speaks into the mic, “chat- I mean..” laughter fills the room as Wilbur attempts to hide his embarrassment in his arm. “ You can take the boy out of twitch but you can't take the twitch out the boy” he jokes once again causing laughter. “In all seriousness, though I have one more song I'd like to share that I wrote for someone in the crowd tonight.” His eyes lock with yours for a brief moment and Tommy giggles, you give him a questioning look but he stays quiet. The crowd cheers but is quiet as the band begins to play.
“Sunrise with you on my chest
No blinds in the place where I live
Daybreak open your eyes
'Cause this was only ever meant to be for one night”
He sings smoothly, you turn to Tommy who’s nodding along as though he's heard it before and maybe he has. “What's this about?” you question “it seems like a love song,” says Kristin. A heavy feeling sets in your chest, you and Wilbur have always been very close friends, though a part of you wishes it was something more.
“Still, we're changing our minds here
Be yours, be my dear
So close with you on my lips
Touch noses, feelin' your breath
Push your heart and pull away, yeah”
You know you shouldn't feel this way about your best friend especially when he sings so passionately about the person the song is written for. But you can't help the way he makes you feel. He has always been there for you and vice versa.
“Be my summer in a winter day, love
I can't see one thing wrong
Between the both of us
Be mine, be mine, yeah
Anytime, anytime”
You tell each other everything why wouldn't he tell you about this person? Jack sees the disappointed look on your face and nudges you “ you alright?” he asks. “Yeah just tired” you smile weakly but he isn't stupid, “Come on y/n what's up?” he asks a concerned look adorning his features.
“Ooh, you know I've been alone for quite a while
Haven't I? I thought I knew it all
Found love but I was wrong
More times than enough
But since you came along
I'm thinking”
“I just.. Wanna know who this song is about” you utter. Jack laughs and Tommy turns toward the commotion “ what’s so funny?” he asks. “I don't know I just said I wanted to know who the song is about and he started laughing” you state, Tommy smiles and shakes his head. “Are you an idiot?” Tommy says taking a sip of his drink. “ What? Should I know who it's about?” You question “ have you even been listening to the lyrics?” Tubbo chimes in. “I guess not,” you say still confused. “Why don't you actually pay attention for once kiddo” Phil speaks from behind me and places a hand on your shoulder.
“Baby, you yeah
Are bringing out a different kind of me
There's no safety net that's underneath, I'm free
Fallin' all in you
Fell for men who weren't how they appeared, yeah
Trapped up on a tightrope now we're here, we're free”
As you listened you remember the time you and Wilbur talked about our past relationships. You told him of your horrible ex and told you about his selfish girlfriend. “You deserve so much better than him,” he told you.
Fallin' all in you Fast forward a couple years, yeah
Grown up in the place that we live
Make love, then we fight
Laugh 'cause it was only meant to be for one night, baby
I guess we can't control
What's just not up to us
Be mine, be mine, yeah
Anytime, anytime
Ooh, you know I've been alone for quite a while
Haven't I? I thought I knew it all
Found love but I was wrong
More times than enough
But since you came along
I'm thinking”
Wilbur looks to you as he sings as if you were the only person in the room. This song isn't about you is it? It couldn't be there's no way Wilbur could feel the same way you do about him.
“Baby, you yeah, ooh
Are bringing out a different kind of me ooh
There's no safety net that's underneath, I'm free
Fallin' all in you
Fell for men who weren't how they appeared, yeah ooh
Trapped up on a tightrope now we're here, we're free
Fallin' all in you
Every time I see you baby I get lost
If I'm dreaming, baby, please don't wake me up
Every night I'm with you I fall more in love
Now I'm laying by your side
Everything feels right since you came along
“I can't believe you didn't know!” Tommy exclaims “ yeah I mean he never shuts up about you, no offence” Tubbo adds “none taken” you laugh.
“I’m thinking Baby, you, yeah
Are bringing out a different kind of me
There's no safety net that's underneath, I'm free
Fallin' all in you (ooh, yeah)
Fell for men who weren't how they appear (ooh)
Trapped up on a tightrope now we're here, we're free
Fallin' all in”
The song comes to a close and the crowd cheers a final time. Wilbur hurries off stage and runs toward you almost knocking you over. “Y/n!” he yells, “Wilbur!” You giggle as you're pulled into a hug by the taller man. “That was amazing Will, you did so good” You smile up at him as he puts you safely back on the ground his cheeks and the tips of his ears turning a slight shade of pink. “y/n I need to tell you something” he mutters “yes?” Your heart pounds a million miles a second.
“I’m sure you already know but that last song was about you” he chuckles nervously and rubs the back of his neck. “I’m madly in love with you, you bring out a better version of me, a happier version and it's alright if you don't feel the same I understand it's ju-” you pull him down by the collar of his shirt and kiss him passionately. He kisses back, wrapping his arms around your waist. Pulling back for air you rest your heads together “so you feel the same?” Wilbur laughs “obviously nerd” you smile back at him.
“EWWWW PHIL MAKE IT STOP” Tommy cries covering his eyes. The two of you just laugh at the boy. “They are in love Tommy leave them be, come on let's go get ice cream,” Phil says taking the boys the cheer and run out the door leaving you and Wilbur alone. “I kinda want ice cream too” you whisper, Wilbur's laughs “lets go then love” he says taking your hand in his.
A/n: ahhhh this was longer than intended but oh well. I don't love it but it's my first fic so I'm not mad please send requests I’d love to do them :) <3

Hallo, thank you for requesting!
Wow my third dad request, I don't mind them actually they're pretty fun to write
Hope you enjoy <3
Dad!Wilbur headcanons
Tumblr media
I feel like he's awkward when you were first born, cause he doesn't know what to do
He's scared of holding you, in case he makes you fall, so he'll be all stiff and anxious
But the second you nuzzle into his arms and hold onto his finger he falls in love with you [platonically, of course]
He loves to make you bounce onto his leg like almsot every dad do just to hear your little squeals and giggles
Most of your nights are passed with him either reading you bed time stories or singing you to sleep
He's so tall compared to you that whenever you get tired of walking he'll make you sit onto his shoulder as you hold onto his head
Your dad has also taught you a little bit of singing and playing the guitar, just in case you ever wanted to pick up this kind of hobby
From time to time you'll start playing with his hair cause "it's super fluffy!!"
You're Lovejoy's precious angel, they all love you and you have the greatest uncles ever
Mark loves to let you play the drums cause you're a natural at it
Ash has many videos of you and him that he'll keep forever
Joe loves to teach you new cords on the guitar
You met SBI when you were around 5
Uncle Techno is your fav because he's tall and handsome u.u
Uncle Phil is amazing with kids, so he was the first one to befriend you. You also very much like Mumza
Uncle Tommy basically has the same personality as you, so you got along very well
You also got to chat with a lot of Wilbur's other friends whenever you'd barge in on his streams
Chat finds you absolutely adorable and have named you Childbur
GHOSTBUR COSTUME FOR HALLOWEEN.
With a big yellow sweater, a beanie, holding a blue sheep while covered in blue paint everywhere
I feel like in highschool you'd be pretty popular, with Wilbur as your dad and such, but you always stay grounded just like your father taught you too
Wilbur had to resist his tears from how cute you were
You probably get your brains from your dad and end up growing into a really smart kid, which Wilbur is super proud of

Dream SMP Recap (June 24-25/2021) - Cow Quackity / S.U.S. Toll Company
After Quackity turns into a cow and Wilbur eats him on Bad’s chill stream, the two make a hit song together.
Later, George joins in and things become even more chaotic.
The next day, while working on “L’Wallburg” to compete with Bad’s apartment in the same area, Foolish has the idea to join forces with Bad instead of competing all the time. The two get together with Ponk to create their new tollbooth company:

JUNE 24
---
- Ponk, dressed up as Robin, notices Sam AFK by the bank. They try to get some Pillagers to attack Sam, but it doesn’t work
- Instead, Ponk pushes Sam into the spider spawner, then releases the spiders and watches Sam get eaten alive
- With Sam dead, Ponk puts his things in a chest and takes the Netherite set, leaving everything else. He goes to hide it
- Later, Ponk meets Foolish at the Community House as Robin and Batman. They go down into the basement to discuss. They may need new identities. Their crime-fighting days are over
- Ponk tells him that they are going to be Sherlock Holmes and Watson. That’s the extent of the report, so the two of them part ways
- Back at the valley, Ponk puts up a giant Foolsamponk picture and a photo of a rice cooker
- Bad and Wilbur log on. Bad notices a new structure built where the L’Sandburg tollgate used to be and wonders who’s behind it. Bad has been building up L’Sandburg’s walls in the meantime
- As Bad searches around for Wilbur in Las Nevadas, Quackity joins VC and gets a cow as a stand-in. Bad spots Wilbur nearby
- Bad tells Wilbur that the cow is Quackity and puts a leash on him, explaining that a witch turned him into one similar to how George was turned into a pig
- Wilbur asks where he can find food around here, and Bad tells him he can kill the cows in the pen. Bad tries to explain to Quackity how he is a cow. Wilbur asks Bad to tell Quackity that Wilbur wants to eat him
- Wilbur sets Quackity on fire, but Bad puts him out with water. Wilbur says Quackity looks tasty. Bad throws him bread and steak, but Wilbur refuses
Wilbur: not as succulent as him
- Bad leads Quackity over to the Eiffel Tower away from Wilbur. Wilbur opens Bad’s stream to find them
- Wilbur joins VC and Quackity asks if it’s true that Wilbur wants to eat him. They start discussing lactose intolerance
- Wilbur sets off TNT, then lights cow Quackity on fire. Bad is unable to save him and the Quackity cow drops a piece of steak. Wilbur asks for the meat
- Meanwhile, Quackity as a human has come over to Las Nevadas. They set off more TNT
- Wilbur holds a piece of steak and munches on it, telling Quackity that it’s his meat. Quackity asks how he tastes and Wilbur begins describing it in great detail
- Quackity asks him to describe the texture and Wilbur does, again, in great detail. (I'm not going to transcribe this)
- Wilbur then walks over to DogChamp, saying he would kill the dog for another bite. They quickly stop him. Wilbur tells Bad to get him more Quackity meat. He then turns to Quackity and tells him to turn into a cow so that Wilbur can cook him up and eat his meat
- Quackity goes over to the cow pen to be with the other cows so that he can become one and starts mooing
- Wilbur kills another cow. Quackity has taken off his clothes and continues mooing
- Wilbur takes the initiative to end the bit
- They swim over to Eret’s pyramid with Wilbur repeating everything Quackity says in an American accent. They discuss what animal Wilbur would be. Perhaps a sheep. Bad finds a cod in the ocean and decides on that
- They go up to Ponk’s base and look at the photos. They notice that Sam is crossed out in one of them but don’t know why
Quackity: “Do you wanna have sex in this room?”
- Bad goes to tell him “language” and Quackity scolds him for walking in on them. Wilbur considers it, then mines the floor out from under Quackity, who falls to his death
Quackity: “Is that a yes?”
Wilbur: “I like a man who can take kinetic energy.”
- Bad gets a crossbow. Quackity has an announcement: the wine stream is still happening!
- Quackity gets back to the pyramid and falls to his death again. While they retrieve his items, they chat about fan interactions
- Quackity wants to adopt the dog that played Beethoven in the Beethoven movie and Wilbur breaks the news to him that the dog is probably dead. Quackity doesn’t want Tom Arnold on a leash, and they find out that during the filming the filmmakers apparently used a “mechanical dog-dog suit”
- Wilbur explores the Beethoven fandom Wiki
- They talk about music they’ve been working on. Bad says if Quackity keeps swearing, he will “break out the hammer”
- Quackity shows his recent project. Wilbur says it’s “bloody-muffin-fucking great”
- Wilbur and Quackity work on the song together. The sound is...beyond words
- When they are finished, Quackity says that he thinks Wilbur is giving him too much credit, and he should instead be on the feature list. He wants Wilbur to have this song
- Wilbur declines, saying he would be honored if Quackity didn’t put Wilbur’s name on the song
- Quackity thinks Wilbur should feature it as a Lovejoy song. Wilbur has joined a new band to release the song called “Placeholder,” after which he will immediately disband the band
- Quackity tells him that the song is Wilbur’s baby and he really wants Wilbur to have it. Wilbur tells Quackity that he loves him and that Quackity should have the song. Quackity says he would die for Wilbur, and that Wilbur should have the song
- Wilbur says he will name his firstborn "Quackity,” and he thinks Quackity should have the song. Quackity says he will name all his future family members “Wilbur Soot” (pronounced ‘suit’)
- Wilbur then says he will kill endangered animals for Quackity
Bad: “That’s not something you should do!”
Wilbur: “I will do it for love.”
- Bad asks if he can have the song. Quackity doesn’t say his next bit aloud
- Wilbur understands that Quackity would do that, but he would physically drown for Quackity to have the song
- Quackity says that he will get an astrophysics license, fly a rocket into the moon to get in a national story so that when they find the notepad on his phone, Quackity’s one will would be for Wilbur to have the song and release it under his name without any credit to Quackity
- Wilbur understands this, but says that he would invent a Doomsday device the likes of which the world has never seen and will never see again with which he would hold the world hostage with one message: to tell the world that this song is written solely by Quackity
Wilbur: “That’s what I’d do for you.”
Quackity: “...Okay!”
Wilbur: “Cool, alright, now we’re settled. Hey, Bad, how’re you doing man.”
Bad: “Hi! I’m so perplexed.”
Wilbur: “I’ve got a Doomsday device to make.”
- Bad befriends a pig and names it George. He leads the pig and the red sheep away from Las Nevadas. They continue chatting for a while at the Punzo Chunk
- Later on, George, “master of lore,” joins in
- Bad shows them the heads he got from DreamXD and offers to trade Karl’s to get Ant’s, Sam’s and Puffy’s from Foolish. Wilbur asks how one gets heads, and Bad tells the story of DreamXD logging on
- Bad gives George his own head and George logs off. Bad offers Karl’s head and George returns, so Bad kills him and gets his head back. George drops a stack of nametags, a stack of TNT and a stack of levers
- Bad repeatedly murders George and sees a squid that flies
- George chases after Quackity trying to kill him with a bone. Quackity runs, setting everything on fire behind him. Bad follows and tries to put everything out. George eventually kills Quackity, then Bad kills George
- Bad accuses George of abusing his op powers to get Netherite armor as George chases him down
- Wilbur sings the Drake and Josh theme song in an American accent while George attempts to murder Bad in a pit
- George accuses Bad of turning the server off, but Bad says it’s a scheduled restart
- George kicks them from the server and un-whitelists them both
- Quackity gets back on and slays George
- The three of them continue to spar some more for fun
---
JUNE 25
---
- While Foolish works on building a room by the Punzo Chunk to compete with Bad’s, Bad logs on and drops by
- Bad tells him he’s building in Bad’s apartment. Foolish tells him he’s just making L’Wallburg
- Bad says he will charge Foolish rent to live here, but Foolish declines
- They argue back and forth about whose place it is as they work on the walls
- Foolish has the idea to join forces
Foolish: Bad what if we are landlords together
Bad: o_o
Foolish: we have been fighting for afar too long
Foolish: What if we put are talkents togerth
Bad: o_o
- Bad says he’s charging rent. Foolish asks what if he charges Bad rent. They argue about charging rent on each other
- Bad charges Foolish 850 diamonds. Foolish tells him that Bad has been on his property for five minutes, which means he must pay 9,000 diamonds
- Again, Foolish suggests they instead work together. Bad brings up the idea of taking over a central location like the community Nether portal that they can charge people for. Foolish likes the idea
- They work on the apartment some more and start bickering over who’s caused more problems in their rivalry. Foolish attempts to explain it metaphorically
Foolish: “There was once a shiny rock, okay? And this shiny rock was just trying to go to the ocean and have a good time and lay there in peace. But then, this crusty old seaweed came along to the seashore and just got up all in the shiny rock’s business. And then the shiny rock became a little more dull with the weight of death looming, Bad.”
- Bad takes offense to this and also claims that he made Foolish’s build much better by adding a tollgate to it
- They negotiate percentages of the profits and head off to the Nether portal. Foolish asks if Bad has a suit. Bad replies that not only does he look very dashing already, but the last time he wore a suit, he tried to kill a lot of people
- Foolish suggests they call it the Ratgate. They wall off the portal
- While visiting the summer home, Foolish finds out about the new building on the path. The two suspect a third party may be at play
- Foolish tells Bad about how they have a tollgate set up in Las Nevadas. Bad is offended that Foolish made him take down his tollgate but set one up elsewhere. They start arguing again over who had rightful claim to the path
- They admire their work on the new tollbooth. If people don’t pay the toll, they die
- They rehearse it. Foolish switches personas and becomes a L’manburg Llama who asks Bad where L’manburg is -- he heard they needed his help a few months ago
- Foolish critiques Bad’s performance, as Bad didn’t ask for the toll. Bad said he still got something out of it -- a nice compliment
- They rehearse it a second time, this time with Foolish as Palpatine. It ends with Bad attempting to kill him
- As they discuss how the second rehearsal went, Ponk logs on and walks through the portal while they’re distracted
- They go through after him to seek him down. If they let him get away, they would be the laughing stock of the tolling community. Foolish wonders if they’re dealing with Ponk or Robin
- They find her at the summer home. Ponk runs into his shack and they knock on the door
- Ponk comes out of the shack and they tell him that they’re vacuum salesmen. Once inside the shack, they confront him about the toll
- Ponk doesn’t buy their claims and they go back to the tollbooth. They tell them to pay with compliments
- Ponk retrieves a book from his Ender Chest and goes up one of the tollbooth towers to place a piece of TNT. He tells them that he has claimed the tower
- Ponk starts running, placing TNT all over while the two chase after to attack
- After “the Battle of the Nether Portal” subsides, Ponk gives them the compliments
Ponk: “Bad, is your nickname ‘Google?’ Because you’re all I’m searching for.”
...
Ponk: “Did you get your suit at Dollar General, Foolish?”
- Because Foolish takes some offense to this, Ponk throws him some Netherite ingots. Bad wants that compliment
- Ponk and Bad go up into Ponk’s tower to whisper amongst themselves. Ponk is going to record this and use it as part of the lore suit against Bad. Bad already has ten lawyers
- They go back down and Ponk tells Foolish that Bad said the toll doesn’t have to be paid. Bad is confused, and Foolish pulls Bad aside for a meeting behind a wall of TNT to whisper amongst themselves
- Foolish points out that they could use a third person for the tolling business, and Ponk’s the most trustworthy person Foolish knows
- They go back to Ponk with the business proposal. Foolish says if Ponk makes enough money, they’ll give Ponk a Supreme car at the end of the year
- Ponk becomes sad at this, because Bad destroyed the Supreme Fridge and that’s why Ponk is suing him and Puffy
- Bad says that Foolish allowed them to demolish it. Foolish quickly denies this, but Bad claims he has a written document signed by Foolish. Upset, Ponk asks if this is true. Bad says Puffy has it
- Ponk isn’t sure who to believe anymore
- After they spot Bad lurking beneath the rainbow, they hold him at knifepoint asking for his pot of gold
- Foolish suggests the three of them forget everything that’s happened and just run their tollbooth together. Ponk proposes they tear down Bad’s house instead
- As they explain a potential plot to toll everyone further, though, Ponk starts to come around to the idea. Foolish wonders if they should toll the prison. Bad says they should toll everything
- The next place they decide to toll is the Community House, and they start setting up gateways there. Foolish asks Bad who he would hypothetically be in an alternate Batman universe. Bad would be Alfred
- They decide on a name for their tollbooth company:
“Super Umbrella Scheme,” or S.U.S.
- They do another rehearsal at the Community House gate. It goes very well
- They go to the spider spawner. Bad has to leave, and Ponk speaks with Foolish one-on-one, leading him down the tunnel to the Eggpire cloak room to search through the chests. Foolish hesitantly peeks around the corner into the Egg Room...
- Ponk tells him they’ve got their next disguises as Watson and Holmes. Sam has mentioned that he’s missing a sword and wants to hire them to find it
- With that said, they say their goodbyes and leave

If you passed through New York’s Herald Square on Sunday, you probably felt like a time traveler. Thousands of young fans were dressed up, Seventies-style, for a show that they’ve been waiting for for two years — colorful flared pants, feather boas, glitter, and two-piece suits aplenty. Just stop your crying, it’s a sign of times… the times being Harry Styles finally playing Madison Square Garden after years away.
Nearly two years after releasing Fine Line, Styles is hitting the North American leg of Love on Tour, which was announced around the album’s release and originally meant to set sail last spring in Europe — before the Covid-19 pandemic derailed the entire world’s plans.
Even though it’s been two years since its release, there was no universe where Styles wouldn’t tour Fine Line. His second album was even bigger than his self-titled debut, generating hits like “Watermelon Sugar” and “Kiwi,” as well as expanding his fanbase well beyond the young One Direction fans who have stuck by him for over a decade. It was one of the most anticipated treks of 2020 and remains as such in 2021, although it may look a little different this time: Masks are required for all attendees, as well as a Covid-19 vaccination (venues in other states allow proof of a negative PCR test as well in lieu of vaccination).
The wait in between sets for Styles flew by: The attendees occupied themselves by begging Disney stars and rumored “Drivers License” subjects Joshua Bassett and Sabrina Carpenter for photos and singing along to One Direction’s “Olivia” as it played over the speakers — not once, but twice. Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and the ensuing arena-wide sing-along seemed to indicate that show time was nearing as anticipation further mounted from the buzzing crowd.
Styles took center stage in a two-piece black suit with feathered arms, launching immediately into Fine Line opener “Golden,” a bright and energetic single that got the room shaking for the first time that night.
Wisely, Styles’ performed in the round, giving fans either his face or “all butt, baby,” as he cheekily pointed out. There were two general admission pits, which from the stands, seemed to be one of the most polite and communal show pits imaginable. It was the perfect setup for a star like Styles, whose thousands of fans dressed to impress and wanted nothing more than a second of his time or attention. Expertly bouncing around the stage and the long catwalks that stretched across the arena, he was able to give that and much more, making the legendary venue feel like an intimate club.
By some miracle, Styles and his band were able to play Fine Line in its entirety (including “To Be So Lonely,” which was left off the setlist of the tour’s first few shows). He also included some well-placed tracks from his 2017 debut, like the raucous “Only Angel” and smooth “Woman.” The pace and energy were vastly different this time; his debut was a largely folk-y affair, heavy on the acoustic guitar with big campfire sing-along energy. Love on Tour is a bawdier party, full of dancing from both Styles and the crowd.
Helping keep the pace were a mix of old and new band members. Of course, drummer Sarah Jones and guitarist Mitch Rowland (who recently had their first child) were back on the road with the star and have been since day one. Fans cheered enthusiastically any time they were highlighted, especially when Rowland shredded his way through the “She” guitar solos. Bassist Elin Sandberg and multi-instrumentalist Ny Oh were exquisite during “Woman” and a pared-down “Cherry” moment, while pianist Niji Adeleye and percussionist Pauli Lovejoy were scene-stealers at every turn with their enthusiastic dancing.
Toward the end of the main set, the communal feeling of the show strengthened. “Treat People With Kindness,” Styles’ mantra, turned into the biggest party-starter yet. Fans in the pit created dance circles and did something akin to the Electric Slide in unison. On stage, Styles held up both Bi Pride and Black Lives Matter flags to massive screams. It quickly morphed into a cover of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful,” a song Styles really doesn’t need to do but has such a blast singing that I hope he keeps it in his shows forever.
The encore was a perfect cap: “Sign of the Times,” his first-ever solo single, kicked things off as he belted the track beneath two large disco balls that made the whole room sparkle. He introduced the band during a slow-burn reworking of “Watermelon Sugar,” similar to the one he performed at the Grammys this year. He even brought back the song he debuted a few shows ago when he sang to a woman in a banana suit (“She’s dressed as a banana, ayy”). Of course, there were several banana costumes in attendance due to the very existence of the rarity.
For his closer, Styles ended on the highest note, showcasing the biggest flex of his rock star prowess. He blazed through “Kiwi,” the high energy fan-favorite that he also played years ago at MSG; back then, it got the floor shaking so much that drummer Jones’ drumset started sliding across the stage. It was no different this time: The whole room shook through the track as Styles said his goodbyes He had issued a request early in the show for everyone to “be who it is you’ve always wanted to be,” and with one final song, the whole room let loose. They were finally getting to be who they’ve been waiting to become for the last 18 months.

Harry Styles Sent Us Back to 2019 — and the Seventies — at Glittery-Slicked MSG Set
Nearly two years after releasing Fine Line, Styles is hitting the North American leg of Love on Tour
by Brittany Spanos
Luckily, Jenny Lewis stayed on the bill. Her most recent album, the excellent On the Line, came out before Styles’, so at least they were in the same strange boat. Upon the announcement that she was opening on the North American dates, many Gen –Z stans wondered who she was on Twitter. But hopefully they’ve gotten on the Lewis train by now: Her rhinestone cowgirl aesthetic and Nashville-adjacent sound is a perfect fit of Styles’ own, making them a dream pair. She even snuck in a little Rilo Kiley with a cover of “Silver Lining,” hopefully scoring a slew of new listeners for the band that got Lewis her start.

So This is Love (Pt 3)
Inspiration: One day - Lovejoy
The moment you stepped out of Wanda's room, you were engulfed by the towering figure of Steve. "What on Earth was that? One moment she's trying to break your nose with a door, next minute she's staring at you like you're an angel sent from heaven."
"Gee, well maybe I am Rogers." You retort, pushing past him before slipping through your own bedroom door. "Good night Steve." You say, leaving him dumbfounded in the hallway.
You awake to find Tony, Nat and Peter, staring down at your drowsy face. "What the fu-!" You scream, throwing a random assortment of punches and kicks at the three faces hovering above you, catching Peter in the jaw while Nat and Tony deftly jump out of range of your attacks. "See, this is why we never do anything nice to surprise you." Nat quips, helping Peter to his feet. You rub your eyes groggily, trying to make sense of why the three of them were watching you sleep. "What the fuck are you doing in my room anyways?" You ask, still slightly drowsy. Tony's eyes widen, a small gasp escaping from his lips. "Kid... It's your mother-fuckin' birthday!" He screams proceeding to fire the confetti he had hidden behind his back. You look at him, unamused as confetti rained down, coating your room in the bright colored plastic strips. "It's too early for this shit." You mutter, flopping back down on your bed, only to be yanked out of your bedroom door by an overly enthused Tony and Peter with Nat trailing behind you.
"Come on! I've got so much planned for today!" Tony squealed, thrusting a notebook filled with activities for today. "He's more excited for my birthday then I am." You whispered to Peter, making him stifle a laugh as he scanned over your agenda. "Damn, he really outdid himself." Peter remarks as you turn the book towards yourself to see what he meant. "Small party at 8pm." You look at Peter. "That doesn't seem like too much. What do you mean he outdid himself?" Nat chuckled at your obliviousness as she pushed past you, grabbing a cup from the kitchen. "Clearly you've never been to a Stark party." You tilt your head, trying to connect the dots but clearly, morning isn't when you're at your best. "Well, if that's at 8pm, I'm going back to bed." You yawn, shuffling down the hallway towards your room but before you can even open your door, you feel a hand clamp around your wrist, dragging you towards the front door. "No way you're spending your birthday sleeping in. We're going on a run." You groan inwardly, giving a futile attempt at escaping. "But I'm not dressed for a run!" You protest. She aggressively pulls a sweater over your head and continues on her mission to get you out the door. "Now you are. No more excuses or I'll knock you out." You gulped, immediately shutting up. The moment Nat has effectively dragged you out the door, Steve, Clint and Tony burst back into the room. "Alright everyone, we've only got a few hours before Y/N internally dies and Nat is forced to bring her back so let's get to work everyone!" Tony screams as the rest of the group hustles around the compound, save for Wanda who watches as they prepare before returning to her room.
"My god... The moment I get inside, I'm showering because god knows what you'll do if I stick around." You groan as Nat pulls up in the compound's driveway, chuckling at your antics. As you push the door open, you notice how lively it is, with people left, right and centre. "Wha- I thought the party was at 8?" You sputter and Nat shakes her head. "Now you know what I mean. Nothing is what it seems." Tony runs up to you, beer bottle in hand. "Hey! Welcome to your party!!" He yells, clearly half-drunk already. You pull away slightly before yelling back at him. "I'm grateful for all the effort you guys put into this but I really want to shower first." His smile falls a bit but you cut him off before he can reply. "But after I'm done, rest assured I will be coming down here and getting drunk as hell!" You scream and he cheers, patting you on the back before you quickly dart towards your room.
When you emerge from your shower you opt for a plain dress shirt and black pants. You make your way downstairs to find the party still going strong as you slip past a drunk couple and make your way to the bar where Wanda and Nat stand, conversing away from the crowds of people. "Hello there. I see you two have gotten up close and intimate with the alcohol." You gesture to the shot glasses on the table. "That was actually all Nat. I don't drink." Wanda said, giving you a once over. "You look nice." She adds, opting for a small smile. You feel Nat's eyes on you as you give her a response. "Yeah well, you look pretty good too." You feel Wanda's eyes flick away from you and you notice her staring at a couple getting a little too close to the balcony. "Gosh, I better take care of that before they fall off and we have two dead bodies on our hands." She jokes before slipping away into the crowd. You turn back to Nat to find her giving you the most judgemental look you've possibly ever received in your entire life. "What?" You ask. She stares at you. "You and Wanda huh? You guys are cute together." You flush, the tips of your ears turning a bit red along with your cheeks. "Shut up and give me a drink Romanoff."
Wanda was now, once again wandering through the masses of people, her emerald eyes scanning the crowds attempting to find you. She sidles up to Nat who's immersed in a conversation with Thor. "Have you seen Y/N?" Nat glances up. "You mean that Y/N?" She asked, pointing upwards with a shot glass. Wanda looks to where Nat was indicating to see you, most likely drunk, singing on a table.
"And stop!"
"Cause why'd you have to kill my cat?"
"Why'd I have to take you back?"
"Time and time I play the empath."
"I don't know why"
"There's some lights on in an empty pub,"
"A toilet with the seat left up,"
"It's closure like a deer in headlights."
"One day, I know that you will be there,"
"One day, I'll focus on the future, maybe,"
"One day- Oh baby, isn't life so FU-CKING IN-CON-SISTENT!"
Cheers go up around the room as you keep singing, your eyes locked on Wanda's. Eventually the song ends with you face planting on the floor as Wanda rushes forward and catches you in the nick of time. "I think she's done for the night." Wanda excuses you and herself before helping you to your room. She plops you down on the bed and makes her way to the kitchen before returning with a hot wet towel which she presses to your forehead. She stares at your face, your cheeks tinged with pink. "Why do you treat me differently? Why do you care so much?" She mutters, not expecting a response from you. You force an eyelid open. "Because I know what it feels like." She jumps, before cautiously sitting back down on your bed. "I know what it feels like to love only to lose and go through a vicious cycle time and time again." She presses her hand on your forehead, presumably checking your temperature. "That still doesn't explain why." You turn to face her, your face still maintaining a drowsy look but your eyes appear to have some clarity. "Because I want to save you from having to go through that cycle again. I want you to have the choice to escape from that sinkhole. I want you to be different from me." You whisper before leaning in and capturing her lips in a soft kiss. She sputters, pushing you off her and rushing to the doorway. "You don't know me. I'm not like you and I don't need your help." She glares at you before slamming the door shut. You groan before flopping back down onto the bed, knowing that you fucked up.

January 2019 reviews roundup
Tumblr media
Before I knew his backstory, I handed rock-wordsmith, Neil McCormick, one of my own demo CDs at a charity event he was hosting at Islington Assembly Hall, which included performances from Gabriella Cilmi, Bo Bruce, The Magic Numbers and fellow underachieving musician, David Ford. He gave me a look of ‘thanks but no thanks’; gritting his teeth through a previously care-free, joyous smile which immediately swayed to the upset expression of someone taking the most offense possible. After hearing him talk on stage of how he tracked down the evening’s headliner, David Gray, for an interview, I thought he might entertain my similar-styled efforts for a potential leg up. His expression seemed to suggest that he should be the one doing the approaching – maybe that was just what he was used to as he first came over to London from Dublin in time for the early 1980s to chase record labels. Either that, or me handing him the CD had dragged up his unsuccessful past to the surface. Fast forward a couple of years. ‘Later with Jools Holland’ is on the TV, and there he is - Neil McCormick, promoting the new film based on his life (and book ‘I Was Bono’s Doppelganger’) ‘Killing Bono’. Suddenly, his unanticipated mannerisms began to make sense. Fast forward another few years to tonight. We were at the Soho Theatre for ‘Chasing Bono’ - the latest adaption of the tale, in the form of a play. Most of the 1.5 month run (+ matinees) had limited availability but tonight, there are a few extra seats that could have been taken. Sat directly in the row in front of us, though, was nonother than Neil McCormick, himself – awaiting the accuracy of his fantastic fable. As soon as we entered the theatre, the stage-set suggested that this was not the typical, low-budget production expected to be housed here. This was already as mainstream and ‘West End’ as the credits would suggest; billed as a new comedy by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais - creators of acclaimed television programmes and films including ‘Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads?’, ‘Porridge’, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet’, ‘Lovejoy’, ‘The Commitments’, and ‘Still Crazy’, whilst directed by Gordon Anderson (‘The Catherine Tate Show’, ‘The Inbetweeners’, ‘Shameless’ and ‘Fresh Meat’). The attention to detail on design was a spot on as the delivery of the dialect in the best play we have seen since ‘The Edge Of The Pier’.

The irony is that Neil and Ivan McCormick’s band, Shook UP!, achieved the kind of success that most new bands would love but will never achieve. Not many groups could still be continuing their success now, since the mid ‘70s though. However, we headed north straight from the theatre to see a group that fitted that exact description.  Taking their name from Arabic for the meaning of "black", Asward continued to add R&B and Soul to their Reggae sound tonight at Camden's Jazz Cafe. Although they are descendants from the Carabien, they pointed out that they are from Ladbroke Grove. With at least one song played from all their previous LPs, it was setlist closer 'Shine' that had first brought me to the attention of the band in 1994.
After Enter Shikari the following evening at Brixton Academy, we learned how both Ricky Gervais and Ben Howard had made their shows for named ticket holders only, with fans not even able to give their spare tickets away; losing out on money whilst those, willing to take them off their hands, missed out on the show altogether.

The following week saw 2 nights from Irish national treasures, Bell X1, at the Union Chapel in Islington. Starting out life as Juniper, lead singer Damien Rice soon left the band to pursue a solo career, forcing Paul Noonan to make the transition from behind the kit to lead vocals. Tonight, he was still switching between the two, rotating roles with David Geraghty after the band scaled down to a three-piece since the departure of film composer, David Crosby. The numbers were made up by the addition of the ‘Dowry Strings’ section, who created a delicate subtlety, impossible to have been attempted at Bell X1’s high energy, 2006 arena performance at the Dublin Point for their live DVD. I had only witnessed the band live once before – and that was just in soundcheck when they played at the Kings Cross Scala; having left to go to Soho for Ed Sheeran at the Borderline, before he later announced his own headline Scala show at that larger, 800 capacity club.   The second half of tonight’s show was opened by just the three band members huddled around one microphone, otherwise playing purely acoustic – certainly not breaking the sound barrier - but similar to Norah Jones’ encore when we saw her at the Palladium. Their songs performed this way felt better than on record, and the intimacy gave them a stronger meaning, if not forgiving of some literal lyrics and some often, Frames-styled, cheesiness.

After Dan Skinner’s character, Angelos Epithemiou, headlined Outside The Box at the Fighting Cocks in Kingston, we went to see Stephen K Amos’ new show ‘Bouquets & Brickbats’ at Epsom Playhouse a couple of days later. Ever since leaving his role as the interlude, in-between the booked comics, at the Big Fish Company clubs in South London in 2001, he has been travelling to Edinburgh to perform a new show every year. Tonight, rather than just leaving it at one hour, he calls back to material from previous tours when necessary. He covered thought provoking ideas on race, sexuality and political correctness, before revealing some true tragedies that have struck him and reasons why we need to laugh. Maybe that’s why he is at the best he’s ever been, reflecting on the turnout; having nearly doubled since the last time he was there, making the show close to a sellout.

The following evening saw a disappointing show from Gruff Rhys at the Roundhouse. After seeing an impressive solo instore from him at Rough Trade East, I went along to the Barbican Centre to see him and his band brilliantly perform his fantastic new album with an orchestra. Remembering how good Lisa Hannigan was at an all-seated Roundhouse, having also seen her with an orchestra at the Barbican, I was hoping for a repeat experience. However, this evening’s sound and lighting were in battle to see which one could give you a headache first whilst the songs were not coming across as strong at all, with little dynamic.

The next day, I was in Angel for Star Shaped club at Islington Academy 2 – a one off evening that felt like how every evening was in the ‘90s but everyone there tonight was much, much older than back then. Maybe it’s strange to have a club that isn’t for the young, and mainly for larger-drinking men but who else would want the non-challenging musical playlist of Shed 7 and The Bluetones? Tonight had the guitar and percussion wizardry of Aziz Ibrahim and Inder Goldfinger performing the songs they made with Ian Brown for his solo albums. Taking on the additional roles of singing and operating a drum machine, Aziz demonstrated how important his riffs were. The small room, still with plenty more space to fill, made it possible to appreciate the techniques involved in producing these sounds and grooves, with the whole show benefiting from bringing these two masterful players to the forefront. January ended with Josh Widdicombe at Outside The Box comedy club and Nina Nessbitt at Banquet Records. Nic Bennett
