WoT S3 soundtrack theories under the cut

1) Any chance that’s Donal/Mat or Alexandre/Thom singing with Elayne on Hills of Tanchico? Or maybe the male voices are going to be her admirers as she’s singing in the tavern lololol. I’m thinking the reason they did more songs in English is because these are going to be the tavern songs we hear in the show.

2) I was struck that there is a bit of a breakbeat/dupstep section in Elaida’s song as well as Tanchico City. It’s very nearly otherworldly compared to the other songs. There’s also heavy breathing, a clock ticking type sound, and whispering, almost guttural voices in the background of Tanchico City. I assumed this was just highlighting the rough and seedy side of the city, but what if this dubstep section and creepy voices are actually highlighting how alien the Finn are? Show Elaida seems to have a connection to them to explain why this motif shows up in her theme. The track name is a bit of a red herring, obviously they didn’t want to spoil anything in the name but it does seem like Mats going to find a doorway in Tanchico City.

I decided that I’m going to ditch the headcanon/consequence separator for subsequent posts. What is the point for such anyway other than reminding everyone that the AU is headcanon-heavy?

Comes from another world, outside of even the analog world. You know the one.

Contrary to what he thought happened, he and his sister didn’t land in Newgrounds town (name of the setting—“North Funk” now refers to a street within it), but rather, the world outside of it: right in the Maker’s house.

Not only that, the rest of the Deadly Muzix also fell into the same place, albeit comatose like Radi is thanks to Lofie’s meddling.

It was Lofie’s request that the Maker put a VR headset on Radi (and some other stuff so he is awake in the digital world even if he’s still comatose) so he can recover while interacting with her. She didn’t want to be the only one awake in this world, after all.

Yes, Lofie did not go into a coma.

Radi did not know about this, so he doesn’t know that he is a god in this world.

Anyways…

Radi is one of the few people who saw Void’s “A.C.” side. It was after Week 2 of the latter’s mod.

Void is immune to Radi’s curse.

Radi is immune to Void’s black hole obsession powers.

Speaking of that curse, it only affects his digital self, but it does impede his recovery.

That, and he only has one half of his soul.

Because he has one half of his soul, his psyche is impaired. Even if he recovers and wakes up in the analog world, he still won’t be healthy until he gets that part of him back.

Sometimes, he wishes that he never had the dupstep power he has in the first place. Then, maybe he wouldn’t have to be chased by the Deadly Muzix. Maybe not deal with this curse.

But… that power is an intricate part of him.

He was actually surprised that calling a group what is essentially “Deadly Humans” is considered weird for them, because it certainly isn’t back in his world.

Seriously, even the world he came from is called Muzix!

I might write about him soon.

Introducing Gonhills

About Gonhills

I discovered a really awesome artist who goes by the name of Gonhills. (The name derives from Yongsan, one of the smaller towns in Seoul. Short for dragon Hills.) He is part of FOREIGN LANDS together with other Asian American artists (Suah, JAWNZ, Midas Klay, 2lanes). Last month they held first liveshow together in NYC. I got to know this 31-y/o talented man, thanks to Clubby Yoo, who is also part of the label.

Fun fact: besides music, Gonhills loves to fish, play golf and cook.

If you keep up with the khiphop side of my blog, then you'll know that Flowsik is my favourite rapper. While talking to Gonhills, I was very excited to learn about their friendship. For me, Flowsik is an artist who I look up to, and who motivates me to become a better version of myself. For Gonhills, Flowsik is not just his friend but also his mentor.

This is story: when he was in high school, he took a casual interest in music. He lived in Seoul back then. After meeting Flowsik in Korea, music became a serious thing. I asked him about their meeting: "Think i met flowsik back in 2014-2015ish a year before smtm season 5 started. Tru a mutual friend who's also a rapper from back in the days called "Rousseau"". I think most of us are happy that these two amazing men met each other. I mean, Gonhills is more than "just a rapper", he is also a producer, songwriter and lyricist. Before I forget, Gonhills told me that he was there at the LA auditions, but wasn't ready so he didn't audition.

I got super excited finding out that the very reason I got obsessed with Flowsik, the music video/ song 'Wet' featuring Jessi, he took a part writing in this song. Even though he "helped them with toplines and lyrics here n there" I think he's fucking awesome. He took part in writing other songs too, try to find them yourselves ;)

About his music

From his website: “Mission Statement: Make uplifting music for Asian American communities and abridge the cultural gaps that exist among different cultures.”

When I asked him about his goals/ dreams, he told me about one of them: “-becoming an artist that other artists want to work with”.

Since Gonhills is a small artist, so finding info takes some more time. The reason why he joined or was invited to the be part of FOREIGN LANDS is because everyone there shares a smiliair goal: bringing Asian Americans together through music.

Back to his music, he raps in a mix of Korean and English. About his own album 'Departure | 출국': This album is a collection of my experiences living as a foreigner in the U.S. for the past 15 years and redefining my Korean roots. With my formative years in the U.S, my own perception of racial and ethnic identity would often see-saw between pride and resentment. “Departure” features contemplations on my own identity that often felt too heavy, abstract, and subtle to describe. These themes are wholeheartedly expressed through various genres such as Lo-fi, Reggae, Dupstep and Trap. My hope is that others can relate to my reflections and continue the conversation.

As I don't know Korean and there's no translation to be found, I asked him myself if he could give an indepth description of 3 songs.

Coreanos

 This is a track about me coming to U.S as an immigrant and how I got synchronized to the U.S culture/standards. From the way I talk to dress, there are certain standards that are placed onto foreigners and I wanted to explore that emotion in this song. I also took a part in beatmaking for this track!

Subway

While I was in Korea doing music, I used to ride subways to get to places. A subway ride is a perfect metaphor to describe life in Korea. While these safe vessels/vehicles move us from one place to another, we are expected to stay quiet, wait in line and follow a bunch of crowd to exit out of a hell hole. I thought it’d be fun to make a song out of it :) 

Jjam

 So from year 2013-2015, I served in the Korean Army to fulfill my mandatory duty as a Korean citizen. My role was a tank driver and I drove the K-227 Armor Vehicle for 2 years. I met many Korean friends during this time and I wanted to make a song about them.

Final words

I feel incredibly honored getting to know Gonhills. He is a man with a big heart and ambitious mind. I wish him all the success in the world and I can't wait to see him perform live someday. I would like to add that writing this blog wasn't possible without the man himself, so I am grateful that he could make time for me in his busy schedule :)

The more time I spend on this blog, the more of a fan I became :D

OH ok this is all very interesting to think about........ so in this au/concept i assume every member has musical interest/talent (since lbr haruhi could NEVER be in a band for the. obvious reasons.) so... I'll give my general overviews as well as what I think their music would sound like :D

So Tamaki is a solo artist and he'd make pop songs as you theorized. He'd be VERY big on his stag presence, very idol-esque. There's actually an offical(sorta) English in character song for Tamaki and I think it sounds exactly like the kind of stuff he'd make. I feel like some of his other music would sound like this tho :) It's like...idk how to put it bc i'm not good with classifying music, but it's like pop but not saccharine. It's more moody. moody pop. I would like to assume he has a lot of piano in his music.

KYOYA is...interesting. Again a solo artist. Unlike Tamaki who places a LOT of emphasis on stage presence, Kyoya operates mostly from his house and does not really make public appearances....now I know many peoples first thoughts for Kyoya + music is "he likes classical" and i'm sure he RESPECTS it, but tbh...I think it's not his favorite. esp bc of the family he was raised in, he was forced to listen to it like ALL THE TIME and now he's so sick of it. So for him I'm going for calm but still lively songs with an emphasis on string instruments, like this and this.

The twins would DEF be making industrial rock/grunge rock and stuff like that. Very loud, beat heavy. Also with some dupstep influences. The titles would be very joky/provocative, think Anal Cunt (sorry in advance if you dont know who that is) but their titles are just a LITTLE less extreme. But same general concept. In terms of general sound this is what I have in mind. However, as individuals, I think their music would be very different

Kaoru would make very "odd" music. I think it leans more electronic/rock, usually with very odd-sounding parts, bordering on denpa (songs meant to invoke a feeling of uneasiness/discomfort). The lyrics would probably be cryptic if not a little disconcerting. look my mans has 5 different mental issues he needs SOMEWHERE to vent them. I feel like his music would generally sound and have lyrics kinda like this (promoting my own translation channel...) or like this

Hikaru on the other hand is a little more true to their shared band concept. Rock, maybe with metal influences. Up-beat stuff that can be kinda goofy in lyrics. Also rap in it maybe? Songs like this and this are what I have in mind in terms of sound.

Hani would have a band with Mori :) I think their style is interesting since I imagine they're very different musically, so combined they make..... pop metal. HEAR MME OUT. IT WOULD BE FUNNY. idk why but I always saw Hani as the kinda guy who secretly is a metal fan....it just seems funny....he thinks it's very fun an energetic!! this is the kinda stuff they'd make. Hani would be the vocalist most of it but Mori does some too

Now, alone... I think Hani makes what you'd expect. Very saccharine pop-ish songs like this one. Just fun nonsense.

Mori would def be more towards slow-ish, low-fi songs that are quiet. I'm thinking like this? Alternatively you can say more traditional slow songs and I agree, but tbh I...do not like like slow music much so I have no examples. Low-fi is the only slow music genre I seem to enjoy.

Ok Haruhi. Haruhi is fucking hard. I have no god damn clue what her music would be like. She's also a stand-alone and much like Kyoya does not care for people knowing who she is, even less so. I think she just uses some stage name and nobody knows her face and name lol. Her music...I...I guess something like this? I'm really lost on this one. I'm just thinking, electronic and loud but still soft somehow.

The rest of the day was spent playing video games and eating junk food, allowing Shiro to let loose and Keith to feel a bit of normalcy after his stressful weekend. It neared 9 when Shiro called it quits, so he could grade a few papers before bed. Keith powered down the X-box and retreated to his room to go to bed early, so he could maybe get a decent amount of sleep.

PJ-clad and ready for bed, Keith crawled under the covers and unlocked his phone to pull up a podcast to listen to. He remembered Hunk telling him about the new video from his “internet rival” and switched from his podcast app to Youtube to check it out quickly. He looked through the comments of his Rihanna video and sure enough there it was.

He snorted and clicked. The page redirected to the video and Keith shook his head when he saw the title, smiling at its ridiculousness, Bring Me To Life Evanescence Remix- also known as Brogaynes is a terrible person and I hate him.

The song opened with an instrumental bit, heavy with anticipation, the beat gradually growing through the first verse. After the first line of the chorus, it dropped hard into a stretch of classic dubstep. The song repeated that pattern, slow build with samples of the original song and heavy drop, one more time before ending on a synthetic trill.

If Keith didn’t have a predisposed hatred of all things dubstep, he would have liked the song. He clicked into the description expecting another snide comment like last time, but it was empty. He scrolled through the comments and saw nothing there either. He thought that was a bit odd and out of character, but dismissed it because they’d never interacted, so there was no reason for him to know anything about this person’s character or be concerned.

He switched back to his podcast app, pulling one up, and closed his eyes. Before he knew it, the hosts said their outro an hour later and Keith was still very awake. He groaned and rolled over to grab his phone. He debated playing another one, but he didn’t feel anywhere near falling asleep, so he opened Twitter with the hope that some mindless scrolling would do the trick.

The racing in his mind gradually slowed as he went through his feed. He passed a list of recommended users, quickly scrolling back up for a double take. No way, he thought, his mind fully alert again, and clicked on the user profile. Sure enough, there it was. BlueTailor69 had a twitter and it was exactly what could be expected. The profile picture was a black background with Fuck You, Brogaynes in white Comic Sans and the description read, I exist solely to spite Brogaynes. Besides, he started it.

Keith couldn’t fight the disbelieving laugh that bubbled up as he scrolled through his tweets.  They were pretty much all replies to Keith’s tweets, consisting mostly of various snips and jabs at the songs he covered. He looked again at the most recent tweet, linking to his Evanescence cover, his brows furrowing as he read the caption. Had a shitty weekend so cut me some slack. I can still hate you in any headspace though @BrogaynesMusic ;) That must have been why there was no sarcastic commentary on the video.

Before thinking it through, Keith hit the message button and typed out a quick You ok? Once it sent, he realized that that was probably a bad idea. This guy was likely some troll who just enjoyed fucking with people because he had nothing better to do with his life and wasn’t worth Keith’s time to be worried about. Before he could fully second-guess his decision, his phone pinged.

Keith stared at the message bubble, just as confused as to why he was messaging this guy as he was.

BrogaynesMusic: You said you had a shitty weekend. Just asking if you were ok

You stalking me now brogaynes? Was ruining Beyoncé not enough for you?

- Painwheel would rather not dance but she’s happy to provide the music for others. She prefers calmer music.

- Cerebella would dance to anything that came on the radio or anything you played, she’s an entertainer, she really doesn’t care.

- Filia will dance, but she doesn’t wanna be the center of attention, she isn’t a very good dancer, so to help that, Samson I guess you could say coaches her. Despite her edgy appearance, she likes really up beat and peppy happy music.

- The most dancing Big band’s ever done was tap his foot. He’d much rather provide the dancing music.

- Peacock would dance for the hell of it! One of her favorite songs is Wonderland by Caravan Palace, but she’ll dnace to any Caravan Palace song. Sometimes her gang will join in the dancing!

- Parasoul, on the other hand, is surprisingly too timid to dance in front of people. She only dances when she’s alone, but she can’t always choose one song to dance to! Her music taste ranges from Avenged Sevenfold to Marina and the Diamonds.

- Ms. Fortune Loves heavy metal as a guilty pleasure. Is it edgy? Yeah, but she can’t help but bang her head to it.

- Robo Fortune obviously loves dupstep, but she also loves chill and vaporware music. She can’t help it! It’s relaxing, but she doesn’t really dance to it; she only listens.

- Squigly sings her favorite opera pieces, but she loves slow dancing to piano songs in private. (her partner being Leviathan himself, of course.)

- Valentine slow dances as well. Her favorite music would be something with acoustic guitar, but band wise it would probably be something like Radiohead or The Killers. Rock helps her work, okay? But unless someone else is there to dance with her, she doesn’t dance at all. If she’s in the right mood, she might even invite someone to dance.

[Single Review]: Teion Yakedo / Shunrenka / I Need You - Tsubaki Factory

A Third single announced by Tsubaki so soon?! Absolutely. Tsubaki has been racking up fans since their major debut in early 2017, and they’re here to completely settle their positions in this lovely single. Click ‘read more’ for the juicy details.

Tracklist: 1. Teion Yakedo 2. Shunrenka 3. I Need You ~Yozora no Kanransha~ 4-6. Instrumental tracks __ 1. Teion Yakedo 7/10 I was out for breakfast with two of my friends, one of which moved to Japan shortly after, when the mini-video was released. Immediately we were hooked on the visuals. The outfits, the somewhat-budget, and the fact it was smartphone-oriented, were the main point! The song is intense, which makes for Tsubaki’s “There has to be at least one intense song in every single” mindset. The instrumentation is a bit nostalgic, it reminds me of an old anime opening around the 2010s. It also marks the single where my girl Kiki is back in business!

There’s a lot of bittersweet refrains before each chorus. The thing I probably like most is that you can hear the fact that the girls have gotten a good amount of vocal training in before the recording. The emotions are definitely in their voice, and now they can even blend well. Tsubaki’s efforts are proudly shown in this song. The climax point is Yumeno’s solo in the beginning of the last chorus, really immersing us in the emotion of this winter song. My least favorite point in the song is possibly the dance break, where I feel like they really didn’t need to pull in some classic MoMusu sampling. But either way, I loved this song, and will be listening to it once in a while.

2. Shunrenka 10/10 I try to stay unbiased when it comes to reviews. I really do. But this song is the bop of the year for me. It’s an easy-going, light-hearted springy song, with a clear influence of Kobushi’s Sakura Night Fever when it comes to the filters on the MV, and the fact that management keeps Tsubaki and Kobushi’s concepts a bit knit together(haha get it?? cause theres knitting in shunrenka lol im not funny). 

The instrumentation immediately captures me. It’s airy, fun, and overall great-- It screams spring time, and makes you look forward to the weather getting warmer, and finally showing off your outfit cause its too cold to look good in the winter... lol.. Another personal point I get from this is how it reminds me of one of my favorite vocaloid songs, Milk and Coffee-- The bounciness making it sound like it could be used to montage a cooking compilation. The dance break ties the feelings of the song all together, not the mention, the actual dance break is gorgeous to look at-- how their arms correspond to the beat. It’s just great. It’s rare that I have a Hello Project song that I have little-to-no qualms about.

3. I Need You ~Yozora no Kanransha~ 5/10 Not gonna lie, but it’s the most boring song of the single. Not that I can’t appreciate it though; hearing a song where the girls aren’t constantly belting out notes is refreshing, it makes me want to listen to it on very certain occasions. We start the song off with classic Tsubaki “Let me just say an appeal line here for no reason”, but multipled by like... 400. I truly could’ve done without most of the speaking lines here, especially when all I can think about when I hear them is the ugly wotas in their rooms going batshit over their 15yr old crush talking about how they want them to say they love them.... haha... ew.

The instrumentation is deep and synthesized, with a heavy piano pulling all the sounds together. I especially enjoy the way it gets bouncy just before the chorus can hit- again with the emotions in this entire single- it’s just so fitting to the mood. It’s a very beautiful song, until the first chorus gets over with and we’re in some pseudo-dupstep trash arch. I do appreciate how the dance break comes after the first chorus rather than the second.... speaking of dance... It’s only been performed at the One-Man-Live so I’m hoping when they drop it on TGL, they’ll have a fitting dance. Maybe a bit more leg work, rather than vague hand signs. Either way, it’s definitely a study song for me, and I can say I’ll listen to it again.

This is a pretty successful single for me. Shunrenka drew me in, gave me a succ, and made me fly into the sun. Teion Yakedo made me relate. I Need You made me want to take a nap. That, and my oshi Kiki is back, lookin like a snack, and ready to get her pale pink penlights in check. Yumeno is finally beginning to  get her facial expressions right. Their voices have grown, and management isn’t giving them poo poo since its their 3rd single in less than a year of debut. Not only that, but I went from shit talking them to loving them in less than a year too, good job yall. I hope we can get a more mature concept next single, though.

is based on use of the 808 Roland drum machine, pitched and re-sampled hiphop/rap vocals, pipe flutes, gangsta synth leads, and various FX. Similar to rap without the main vocal, Trap music has been gaining lots of attention from major DJ’s and labels.
